Month three (July): letters to Juliet

Summary: You haven't been able to get Sy out of your head since that dream, So...you decide to write him a letter.

July 1st 2022 Dear Sy,

I don't know if time is flying by so fast for you too, but it sure is here. I can't believe it's July already... People have been putting up decorations for the 4th. I guess it made me think about you 'our boys over seas' or whatever I guess I thought it would be nice for you to get a little update on the home front. Everything is pretty chill here. The neighbors in 6D just got a dog. One of those tiny ones that look like microwaved tissue. They named him Lester. A pretty 'old man' kind of name in my opinion, but I guess that's fair because he looks about a hundred years old. I haven't burned the place down (yet). Although I did have a pretty close call last week when I tried to make a stir fry. I ended up ordering take-out, just to be safe. I bought some plants too, I hope that's okay. Well, I guess that's that then... I don't know if you're able to write back? Please don't feel obligated tho! I'm sure you're pretty busy? Fighting for the country and stuff...

Dear 'home front',

Your letter was unexpected but welcomed. I hope you enjoyed the 4th of July. I've been sweating my balls off, but aside from that I'm holding on okay. It's weird knowing there's someone waiting for me in my home while I'm here. Well, our home now I guess. 'Lester' is the most 6D name I've ever heard. Speaking of dogs, there's one here that's taken a particular liking to me. The guys here told me her name is Aika. I think her owner was one of ours, a long time ago. She's a tough one, survived on her own here all this time. I started spraying her with green dye, to keep her safe. Kinda works like a life jacket I guess. If we make it out of here together I'm bringing her home, I think you'd really like her.

Dear Sy, I'm glad you got my letter, and I'm glad I got one back. I can't remember the last time I had a penpal. Handwritten letters feel so old. It's nice I suppose. People are online too much nowadays. Oh god, now I sound old. I'm glad you made a friend, even tho she has four legs and a tail, I'm happy she's keeping you company. You better keep her safe, because I'm already excited to meet her. I'm sure Aika and Lester can become friends, either that or she thinks he's a squeaky toy and swallows him whole.

p.s: Aika, if you're reading this, please keep Sy safe as well, because I'm pretty sure the garbage disposer broke and he needs to fix it. Sincerely, your favourite roomie

“Y/N, you're with me today,” Bucky smiled, as he put on his trauma gown. “You can thank me later,” he whispered in my ear. I followed him to the pit, collecting a trauma gown on the way. We were immediately met by several other department heads: Dr. Stark, head of cardio, Dr. Rogers, head of ortho, and Dr. Wilson, head of plastics. I was a little overwhelmed being around so many attendings at once, especially considering Rogers and Wilson were close friends of Bucky’s, but I knew their presence meant something important was coming in.

“What do we have?” Stark asked.

“Oh, just you wait,” Bucky replied. I exchanged concerned looks with Rogers. Bucky had his game face on, but I could sense the excitement coming off of him.

Just then, two firefighters entered the pit rolling a giant block of cement. With a scared teenager trapped inside. It took everything in me to hide the surprise from my face as I realized we had a difficult task at hand.

“Take him to trauma room one,” Bucky stated. I took the initiative and signaled for the firefighters to follow me.

“We blasted what we could out of the job site, but we need to remove the rest of this soon. Just tell us when and where we can start working,” the firefighter said. Bucky nodded and we all circled around the patient.

“What’s your name?” Bucky asked the patient.

“Peter,” he answered, nervously.

“Peter, how old are you?”

“Nineteen,” he hesitated.

“Okay Peter, you are a strong man and we are going to get you out of this, okay?”

He merely nodded. He eyed out the window and I followed his gaze. There were two teens sitting in the waiting area watching us.

“Are those your friends?” I asked him.

He nodded again and I added, “I will keep them updated with everything.” I closed the blinds slightly in order to avoid attracting an audience.

“We are going to meet and come up with a plan but we will be right back. We’ll send in some nurses to keep you hydrated until we can hook you up to an IV. The cement is pulling the water out of your body, so it’s really important that you keep hydrated.” Bucky instructed. The attendings all filed out of the room and I followed. Bucky was scratching his head and I could tell he wasn’t sure where to start.

As we entered an empty trauma room, I was expecting silence as we all thought through the treatment plan, but that was not the case. Stark started things off by claiming that we had to focus on the heart and lungs. That seemed to set everyone else off and arguments immediately ensued. I picked up a white board marker and started jotting some quick notes onto the board, trying to list out all the potential concerns.

As the clock continued ticking and no progress was being made, someone finally intervened.

“What the hell is going on here? Why is that patient out there by himself?” Dr. Fury, Chief of Surgery shouted. All the attendings turned to look at him, but no one spoke.

“Rogers is worried about the limbs. Barnes is concerned with the abdominal pressure. Wilson wants to focus on the third degree burns and Stark thinks there will be issues with the heart and lungs,” I announced.

“He can live without a leg, he can’t live without a liver,” Bucky said, and they all started arguing again.

Fury looked directly at me and I said, “No one can decide on where to start…”

“Hey! We have a limited amount of time before the toxins in the cement will stop his heart. We are fighting the clock right now. It took the kids an hour to call 911, three hours to cut him out of the cement, so that leaves us four to six hours to get him into the OR. Every minute counts here and we work as a team! So put your differences aside and get back out there to your patient.”

Fury left the room and everyone turned to Bucky for his plan. As head of trauma, he was in charge of the ER and this was ultimately his call.

“We’ll start removing small slabs of concrete and evaluate as we go. Each of you will focus on your respective areas and if you have concerns, raise your hand.” They all nodded and headed back into the ER. Bucky stayed back and peered over at me.

“And what would you like me to do?” I asked him.

“Make sure he’s okay. And trust your instincts.” I nodded and we returned to the patient

Bucky instructed the firefighters on standby to start carefully removing pieces of cement. Everyone took their spots around the slab and I stood up near Peter’s head.

“Peter, as these slabs of concrete are pulled off, I’m going to apply some vinegar. It’s going to help with the burns,” Wilson stated, as he carefully poured some vinegar onto the raw skin.

“Burns?” Peter gulped.

Wilson eyed me and I picked up on his signal to explain.

“Some of the chemicals in the concrete can create burns if exposed to the skin for a long period of time.”

“So…I’m burning from the inside out?” he asked, panicking. Bucky eyed me from across the table so I did what I could to keep him calm.

“It’s nothing you can’t recover from, and Dr. Wilson here is the best of the best. He is going to make sure the burns don’t get any worse and that we treat them as soon as possible.”

It was almost like Peter didn’t hear me because the next thing he said was, “I’m dying aren’t I. I’m going to die in this pile of cement.”

I shifted my position so that I was making direct eye contact with him and I changed my strategy to be a little more direct. “Hey, we are not using the word dying. We are banning that word. You have some of the best doctors in the country working on you right now so you can bet that you’re making it out of this alive.”

I was firm, but passionate and I hoped that he was receptive. He still looked so scared, which was understandable, but I hoped he had a little faith in us. By this point, we had removed enough of the concrete to run an IV to keep him hydrated.

“Peter, can you move your fingers for me?” Dr. Rogers asked, as he continued examining the exposed limbs. Peter’s fingers moved like he was tapping the keys of the piano and Rogers praised him for it.

“I’m not usually this dumb, you know,” Peter said.

“No one is saying that you’re dumb,” I replied.

“I made the dean’s list last semester. I’m in the honors college for engineering. I’m on a full academic scholarship, yet I did this dumb thing for a girl.”

I wasn’t going to indulge him and ask him any more about it. The last thing he needed to do was relive the past few hours. But he continued anyway. “This guy Flash dared me, and I knew it was a stupid thing to do but MJ was watching and I just wanted her to think I was a badass. And now she’ll only remember me as a dumbass.”

“I don’t know, Peter. I think it’s pretty badass that you survived getting stuck in a hunk of concrete. If you’re lucky, you might even get some cool scars to take with you. Girls love that,” I winked at him.

Peter let out a slight chuckle and I finally felt like I was doing something good. I looked down the end of the table and I saw Rogers talking with Bucky about something, looking concerned.

“The leg looks a little swollen, we need to do a fasciotomy,” Rogers announced.

“What does that mean?” Peter asked, looking towards me.

“Dr. Rogers is going to slice open your leg to relieve some of the pressure. You shouldn’t feel that much.”

“Okay,” he breathed.

“You’re doing so great Peter.”

“Dr. Y/L/N, can you get the OR prepped?” Bucky asked me.

“Absolutely,” I responded.

“Wait, where are you going?” Peter asked me.

“I am just going to make sure we are all set up for surgery. I’ll be right back.”

“Do you have to go?” he asked.

I exhaled and looked toward Bucky for guidance. He nodded and I continued with the plan.

“I do, but first I am going to give an update to your friends. Why don’t I see if your friend MJ can come in here to hold your hand while we get these last few pieces off?”

“Yeah, okay,” he agreed.

I excused myself from the room and went to talk to Peter’s friends. They both looked extremely worried and as soon as I approached, they both stood up.

“Is he okay?” the female asked.

“He’s doing really well. We almost have him out of the cement. I am going to prep the OR for him.”

“OR?” the other friend asked.

“We need to go in and check that his heart and organs are all working properly.”

“Oh, okay.”

“But right now I think it might be helpful if one of you went in there to hold his hand. He’s scared and just needs someone to help him through this.”

“I can do it,” MJ volunteered. I smiled, knowing this would make Peter happy. I gave her instructions to carefully enter the room and I continued to the OR.

Everything was in order and we had scrub nurses on standby, ready to assist with the operation. I returned to the trauma room where they were working with Peter and met Bucky outside the room. He was studying Stark, Wilson, and Rogers as they all worked on their respective parts of the body.

There was a look of concern on Bucky’s face that made me nervous. “The OR’s all set,” I said. He nodded, but his expression didn’t change and he didn’t look at me. “What is it?” I added.

“We’re missing something…” he started counting on his fingers some of the major concerns, “Fluid balance, electrolytes, gangrene, compartment syndrome…” He repeated the list again and again, so that it was almost rhythmic.

“Compartment syndrome, fluid balance, electrolytes…” he paused and looked at me, eyes wide.

As if reading his mind I said, “His bladder..”

“We’ve been pumping fluids in him for hours. If we don’t get a catheter in there now, his bladder’s going to burst.”

Bucky and I darted into the room with matching expressions.

“Okay Peter, we need to start a catheter. You are going to feel some pressure,” Bucky announced, as I helped him insert the catheter. We were lucky to have MJ there because Peter put on a brave face and she helped to distract him.

“Good catch, Y/L/N,” Bucky exhaled.

“Thanks Buck,” I replied. I saw Bucky’s eyebrow raise slightly as he glanced at me. What I didn’t see was Dr. Wilson and Dr. Rogers exchanging looks across the patient.

Finally we were down to the last few pieces of concrete that were on Peter’s chest. I had to ask MJ to leave the room, as we would likely be taking Peter into surgery immediately after the last slabs were removed. I took her place, holding Peter’s hand, as Stark grabbed the crash cart and Bucky prepared to intubate.

“What’s happening?” Peter asked.

“We are getting ready to pull the last few pieces of concrete off you. There is a chance that when we do that, the toxins will rush to your heart and you will crash. We will restart your heart and put in a breathing tube. Then we’ll rush to the OR and fix everything up.”

I could see Peter’s eyes go wide and I knew he was scared.

“I know it sounds scary, but this is what we do. You are in the best hands, and I promise you will wake up from this.”

Stark gave me a death stare from across the table. I knew he didn’t believe in promising a life, but I was not about to let this kid go through even more than he already had.

The fireman pulled off the final slab of cement which immediately set off the heart monitors. Peter’s eyes rolled into the back of his head as he went limp. Stark called “Clear!” and pressed the defibrillator paddles to Peter’s chest. The beeping on the monitors returned to normal and Stark, Rogers and Wilson carefully transferred him to a gurney.

Bucky had me open Peter’s mouth as he slid the tube down his trachea. It clicked in easily and started flowing air in and out of his lungs.

“Let’s get him to the OR,” Bucky announced. As the gurney was pushed down towards the OR, I trailed behind, stopping to provide an update to Peter’s friends. They seemed concerned, as they should be, but I promised to provide them with periodic updates.

When I walked into the scrub room, Barnes and Rogers were scrubbing in. Stark and Wilson had just finished up and were starting to work on Peter.

“You scrubbing in?” Bucky asked. I gave him a small nod and a smile, appreciative of the opportunity.

“You did good work today, Y/L/N. You’re good in a high pressure situation and you are great with patients. I might have to request you on my service more often,” Dr. Rogers suggested.

“Thank you Dr. Rogers. I’d be honored to work on your service,” I replied. I hadn’t done much with ortho yet, and it wasn’t exactly my top choice, but I was grateful for whatever experience I could get.

Bucky turned to give Steve a death glare, before putting on his mask and entering the OR. Steve just smirked to himself as he finished scrubbing and prepared for surgery.

Summary:

Time Difference is going to be a series of fanfic(s) about (Rise) Leonardo Hamato / (UY) Miyamoto Usagi telling the story in two separate lines; Present, Future and a little twist. Present is more of a love story with a lot of fluff and a bit of angst. While Future is a more bittersweet love story with no emotional maturity to be reasonable and open with your feelings (?) In total the saga is going to have 3 fanfic(s) + extras and each fic is going to have a different content and is not going to be for everyone. I really like leosagi in the Miyamoto / Leonardo way and I will try to make the characters less ooc possible taking in consideration than this is a Rise oriented adaptation. I'm reading Usagi Yojimbo, theres changes in the canon timeline and basically de-age Usagi in order to make him more appropriate but, I make him live his early history at the age of 15 - 16 and in the present timeline he is 17 years old + he is a teen dad (and he does not know-) (he have his affair with Mariko post- adachihara btw) I really like how Usagi is in the comics and is gonna keep a lot of that. All TW and Ratings will be put in the respective fic but as a general recommendation please be at least 16 before reading the SWF fic and only +18 for anything else. This also will be in Spanish and English :D

Última actualización sobre el proyecto / Last update about the project (15/sep/24) 🦀 ¡KOISENU FUTARI CON SUBTÍTULOS EN ESPAÑOL E INGLÉS! / KOISENU FUTARI WITH SUBS IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH 🦀

ESP: Holaaaaa! Es febrero, lo que significa que lamentablemente hasta el 14 de este mes seremos bombardeadxs por el horrible capitalismo con el “Día de los enamorados/San Valentín/Día del amor y la amistad”. Yey! Y obviamente como personas afuera de la norma en estos ámbitos, desde los países del norte se celebra la Semana de la Concientización del Espectro Arromántico! O el bien llamado Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week aka ASAW ✨ Es por eso que deseo compartir mi pequeño aporte al subir en una carpeta de Google Drive los subtítulos en español de la increíble, fantástica y hermosa serie japonesa Koisenu Futari! Esta mini serie tiene un espacio muy especial en mi corazón y cuando terminé de verla, solo quería compartirla con todo el mundo porque realmente creo que todxs deberían verla por lo menos una vez en su vida!! Sin embargo, algo que sucedía en el camino era que muchs amix se tropezaban con la barrera del inglés. Es por eso que me he tomado la tarea de traducir los subtítulos ya existentes gracias al increíble trabajo hecho por Kaizen Subs el año pasado. Si bien para la fecha (5/Feb) aún no los he terminado por falta de tiempo, espero tomar esta publicación como inspiración e ir subiendo aunque sea un archivo por semana.

Este es el link de la carpeta en Google Drive donde están ordenados los capítulos completos, los subtítulos en inglés creados por Kaizen Subs y los subtítulos en español que iré subiendo: ABRIR AQUÍ.

Por otro lado, quisiera agregar que he hecho mi mejor esfuerzo en algunas frases o traducciones. El inglés no es mi primera lengua evidentemente y he tomado esta iniciativa de puro cariño por la serie y mis amix, a pesar de no tener experiencia en el ámbito. Creo en el gran poder de Koisenu Futari para acompañar a las personas que estamos dentro de los espectros arromántico y asexual, como también toda persona que rompa con las normativas sociales y quieran aprender que otras formas de existir son posibles y están bien. ¡La representación/visibilidad siempre será importante!

ENG: Helloooooo! It’s February, which means that unfortunately until the 14th of this month, we will be filled by the hideous capitalism with the “Valentine’s Day” celebration. Yey! And obviously as people outside the norm in these areas, from the northern countries is celebrated the Awareness Week of the Aromantic Spectrum aka ASAW ✨ That’s why I want to share my little contribution by uploading to a Google Drive folder the Spanish subtitles of the incredible, fantastic and beautiful Japanese series Koisenu Futari! This limited series has a very special place in my heart and when I finished it I just wanted to share it with the whole world because I really think everyone should watch it at least once in their life!! However something that happened along the way was that many friends ran into the English barrier. That's why I've taken the trouble to translate the already existing subtitles thanks to the incredible work done by Kaizen Subs last year. Although to date (Feb/5) I have not finished them yet due to lack of time, I hope to take this post as inspiration and upload at least one file per week.

On the other hand, I would like to add that I have done my best in some sentences or translations. English is obviously not my first language and I have taken this initiative out of pure affection for the series and my friends; despite having no experience in the field. I believe in the great power of Koisenu Futari to accompany people who are within the aromantic and asexual spectrum, as well as anyone who breaks with social norms and wants to learn that other ways of existing are possible and okay. Representation will always matter!

Planned Stories for 2024!

Might as well Try this whole... Schedule thing out for a New Year's Resolution. Below are stories that I am working on/will be working on in the coming year, that will stop being on hiatus and will be updated by me. Or else.

World of Warcraft:

PSTD: My Oc's World of Warcraft story that takes place on an Alternate Azeroth! Canon is OUT the window, and everyone ends up traumatized because of it.

Come Together: The sequel to PSTD, will probably not be a thing until much later next year, since I'm only on chapter 3 of PSTD (Which I'm soft rewriting, I like whatever I did last time for once.)

Death And All His Friends (Viva La Vida): Eventual Fairshaw fic in which both Flynn and Taelia are turned into Death Knights following a tragedy at sea.

After All This Time, It's Still You: Katiann thinks back on the last ten years. (Half completed, two chapters whole moly my second completed fic soon??) Katiann's first sidestory.

Gen:lock:

Time Stands In A Duel (And I Stand For You) *TSIAD for short* My only GL Story currently. I haven't looked at it since I made it and I thought it was horrible, but I got a comment saying they were wondering when I was going to write the next chapter, sooo ITS BACK BABY. Eventually.

The GL Time-Travel fic. Will the gang make things better, or worse? *Not compliant with Season 2*

Ninjago:

The Only Ones: An unpublished fic in progress where Lloyd and Pixal time travel back to the events of season three. We need more Lloyd and Pixal friendship.

An Unlikely Team: The RWBY/Ninjago Crossover. Long before time had a name, Ninjago was besieged by the forces of darkness, creatures of Grimm.

Legend state that the great and powerful Oni had left them behind as a warning that they would truly never be gone from the realm, and have spawned indefinitely for milliennia. In the present, teenagers all over Ninjago are taught how to fight this force of darkness, if they choose to do so.

These monsters go after anyone that are left unguarded, from villages, to towns with no defense. It is now up to the chosen Huntsmen and Huntresses of the next generation to continue this line- or end it once and for all.

HomeScapes: Since I am a horrible human being, I stayed up until past 7 am last night and could not stop thinking about Homescapes. Just a bunch of cute stuff with horror undertones bc It’d be funny if the player character was just the shadowy figure that loomed over everyone and just wanted to help fix stuff, with no one scared or even surprised about you.

To See You Again: Katherine Broom was excited that her childhood best friend (and crush) Austin had returned to town. When she learned that he was trying to restore his childhood home, she dropped everything to help him, even her training to become a protector of nature.

“It’s like you have magic!”

“It’s… not magic… Austin. I’ve just worked with nature and plants all of my life is all.”

It was definitely magic, and you grit your teeth and smile hoping that he doesn’t think anything is up.

You glance at the shadow person that towers over the two of you. They give you a thumbs up.

(Did I add horror elements via the player character? Yeah don’t worry about it)

Destino: otro lugar

Hace rato que no hago este tipo de terapia conmigo misma para expresar con palabras lo que pienso y siento. A dos semanas de comenzar una vida en otro país, caigo en la cuenta de todo el esfuerzo que hice para llegar hasta acá, lo feliz y decidida que estaba el día que comencé con los planes... el tema es que en su momento no lo hablé ni con mi psicóloga, pero cuando decidí irme del país, yo decía que era por la economía y para conocer nuevas culturas, en parte es verdad pero no era del todo absoluta. La verdad de mis ganas de irme fueron cuando creí que casi todos mis vínculos se estaban cerrando, que no pertenecía en ninguno, en todos no me sentía yo. Sólo me sentía yo, cuando estaba sola encerrada en mi habitación mirando una serie, este pequeño espacio que tengo en mi casa, era mí único lugar donde me sentía bienvenida. Comencé a tratar muchos de mis problemas en terapia, repitiendole incansablemente que yo no me iba del país "huyendo de mis vínculos" pero el 60% era la realidad.

Pasan los meses, comienzo a reforzar mi seguridad en todo, tengo otro carácter en la vida y mis vínculos me ayudaron a crecer más y más, el tiempo cada vez era corto a la distancia del viaje y yo me volví a sentir parte de ellos, a ser bienvenida en todos los lugares donde antes me había dejado de sentir. Un sentimiento de nostalgia vuelve a mi, pensando en un futuro sin mis vínculos, creciendo sola a partir de esta sección de mi vida. ¿me va a gustar? ¿voy a poder enfrentar todo sola? soy lo bastante independiente, así que eso creo que no es problema, lo único que voy a padecer será la distancia con la gente que amo. Volveré a contar anécdotas para que todos nos caguemos de la risa, pero por ahora voy a disfrutar al máximo mis últimos 11 días en Argentina.

update 24/04:

Me hicieron dos fiestas de despedida, la primera fue mi familia y la verdad que aunque todos la pasaron bien ese día, las lágrimas no faltaron. Tuve esperanzas de que el sábado con mis amigos, sólo sea baile y alcohol, cosa que si lo fue pero también mucha gente llorando al finalizar la noche. Nunca me puse a pensar en cuánto iba a movilizar a la gente, no me creí tan importante en sus vidas, no digo que no me quieran, pero creí que iba a pasar por desapercibida.

Estoy agradecida con todo el amor que recibo de toda mi gente, escribo esto llorando porque ya los extraño y todavía no me fui. Mi tarotista me dijo que esto me iba a costar muchas lágrimas, para avanzar tengo que soltar. Avanzar no significa olvidar, eso es importante tenerlo en claro.

Quiero pedirle perdón a todos y sobretodo a mí papá que estas semanas estuvo muy triste con mi ida. Me encantaría llevarmelo conmigo pero no puedo, pronto nos volveremos a ver. Lo prometo.
