May 17 - Odaiba
Today we hit up Odaiba for a little while. Originally the plan was to go to the Tv museum but that apparently doesn’t exist anymore. When we got there there were absolutely gigantic stairs so a couple of us raced up it. I sadly lost in an excruciating defeat. I knew I should have sprinted up 3 stairs at a time but I only chose to do two. Instead of the museum there was a small observation deck. I looked out for like five minutes and headed back down. The gift shop was kind of mid so I didn’t end up buying anything. After that we did a little bit of walking around before hitting up a barbeque place. I was assigned grill master but I was feeling a little tired so I passed it off to Jonah. Everyone took turns cooking up some meat while I kind of just sat there and ate whatever got served. The chicken was really good but I just wished we had some vegetables. I know I am eating a bunch but they are all cooked so it doesn’t feel like I am eating any at all. Then we were off to team labs. We arrived early so we had to wait. Me and a couple of the guys ran over to Lawson for ice cream. I messed up and grabbed what I thought was a strawberry ice cream but what was actually a peach icee. I had to bite a giant piece of ice for like 3 minutes to get it down in time. We walked into team labs and they told us to take our shoes off which was pretty funny. We basically walked in a couple of rooms with mirrors everywhere and some with water. If you dumb it down like that it sounds stupid. It was actually pretty cool though I just wouldn’t pay it normally on a date or something. After Team Labs was done we went back to the Gundam store only to find out they did not have what I wanted so we ended up leaving after that. I split up from the group and headed towards Shibuya. I had my first truly lost moment. My train said stay on but it also started heading backwards. I had to get off and back on when it started moving the right way. I had to transfer a couple times but I made it. From there I hung out with my exchange student friend Moa. She finally helped me to find Yakisoba. It was everything that I was hoping for. It was literally so amazing I don’t know if America could ever compare. I then got my first 31 since coming here. I highly recommend the love potion. That ended my day but I still have tomorrow's free day to write lots more about.
Academic connections
From the reading I could definitely identify the points on Odaiba being very commercialized and made for consumers. Just seeing the tv museum I could tell how large they really were planning for. It felt like I was walking up to a national monument going up those steps. Every walkway was wide and decorated on the sides almost like I was walking to the next ride at Disneyland. The mall there being 8 floors tall felt jam packed with things creating almost a perfect place for tourists to take a quick trip over to. I will say though, it being super commercialized made it seem like a spot where lots of dates take place. I almost forgot, they even had cars drifting. If that isn't a tourist attraction I don’t know what is, besides the giant gundam and statue of liberty. I could just really get a sense for how touristy the place was built to be and I feel like in a general sense that's what the reading is trying to poke at.

Taylor Swift chai sugar cookies
Tumblr media
Y'all...I got to go to the Eras tour...  (Insert a dizzying head spinning happy dance with glitter, confetti and fireworks)
Tumblr media
BUT: It's a bittersweet story because it involves the disintegration of two friendships, and the birth of new friendships. And, to be honest, I just am not ready to write about it all. To be honest, it has been really difficult for me to even write recently. So I took up oil painting. of course,  I still love writing, and I will get  have gotten back   to it. Recently, I did a "30 tiny paintings in 30 days" challenge, which I LOVED. Here's part of the results:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the eggs are my favorite, I think) I loved the accountability it gave me, so I decided to kick off a 30 posts in 30 days, right here. Yay for all of y'all. :) Because to be honest- who's really interested in art??? This blog used to be sooooo popular, but now it's like the popular girl that hit puberty over summer and is stuck  under construction hiding in the back of the room until it's time to come out, and; well, it's been a long time coming. So here we are. I made cookies for the occasion. If you read my previous post,or follow me on Instagram  you'll catch some signs at why I made these cookies.
Tumblr media
These cookies are so good. I think the recipe originated from Joy The Baker, because when I started searching she had a post about how her sugar cookie recipe got morphed by Taylor Swift- and OHMYGAWDDDD- if that happened to me -I would just die dead RIP me, you know? I'm like : "Hey Taylor! I know you like you cook and bake... I got cookie recipes here!" Come visit... But now she's on an extended tour, so I better create some recipes you can make on the road or backstage... pumpkin spice cookie batter butter balls, maybe? (That's on my recipe "set list")
Tumblr media
Anyway, what I LOVE about these cookies,( aside from the fact that  they make the house smell like hugs and happiness, of course!) They taste amazing, and not too sweet which is just perfect because you want to taste the spices not just sugar and flour, you know?
Tumblr media
Now: little kids are the best and worst critics at the same time. They are more brutal than a gang of middle school girls at the mall... especially if they are 7 or under. Trust me. I'll make a damn good meal only to have it be scoffed at as: "The grossest thing everrrrr!" alongside dramatic wrenching and gagging. And: sweets are not free from the critiques , either. My kid can remove each shred of zucchini in zucchini bread with the precision of a neurosurgeon. And- a speck of parsley? You don't even want to know what drama that has caused. "Mommy! There's MOLD in my macaroni and cheese. It's GREEN!!!!" "MOM-MEEEEEE. This bread has GREEN in it." "MOOOOOOOMMMMMMMEEEEEE! " (For the record, I do have one kid that loves lettuce. He calls it "grass on his sandwich"- I'm like "whatever, sure it's grass and win win for the green stuff!"  I have a kid that loves sushi and one that loves rice, so it's slowly balancing out....  sorta. Back to cookies:
Tumblr media
So cozy. And, yes it's the middle of summer. In my dreams, it's the middle of ... Fall. But I don't have Fall where I live so, I settle for the flavor of Fall. Ya gotta do what you gotta do..... And in the middle of summer when I'm sad over not seeing another eras tour, and then surprise! She's coming back to my state. Well- it's another reason  to celebrate the best we know how.In this house we celebrate pretty much everything... You finished cleaning your room? Let's make ice cream. My paperwork is done? I'm celebrating with cupcakes. The yard is mowed? Scones it is... The list goes on. But when there's something specific that we are looking forward to it gets even BIGGER. For instance, to commemorate the release of Speak Now Taylor's version me and the girls  took a train trip to Miami in our Eras shirts to pick up a life-size cut out that my 15 year old daughter had found on Marketplace. Then we ordered SN cardigans on the train ride home.  My daughter was so. bummed they won't ship until November, but I was like- "It will be cool out and we can wear them without dying!" Once again, back to cookies:
Tumblr media
I found this image of the handwritten recipe on the internet, I don't want to piss anyone off so I will just link to the recipe itself. Lord knows I have inadvertently done that. Probably this post will piss some people off, too. What can I say... errr write? Haters gonna hate, hate, hate. Here is the recipe: Taylor Swift Chai Sugar Cookies  Read the full article

Can I request a yandere a Simon (infinity train) x motherly reader, where you found him with grace and decided to become the mother of the group, giving Simon the most attention then the others, but as the group slowly becomes more evil you start to try and convince the littlest kids to get there numbers down, Simon took all your attention to heart and is now madly in love with you so when you no longer comforted him he guilt tripped you, coming to you crying saying he can’t live without you
Tumblr media
Yeah he need help...
Tw- Drugging, Gaslighting, Toxic Simon irl
If you dont like it block and move on, I dont control what you consume! Enjoy!!
The Apex was good at one point. It was a caring and doting place, that was until this whole new conductor stuff started. You started isolating and hiding in the mall with the newer kids. You’d tell them everything you could remember about the outside world. And that their numbers should be going down and not up. All to Grace and Simon unknownst.
It all blew up when Jesse and MT showed up. You had walked towards Simon and Grace seeing them with the new kids and a deer?? “This is Y/n, She's the third in command, and you know, a big thing on the whole motherly stuff,” Grace said. You waved and looked down at the silver kid's shirt.
“You're not cold? I have a couple of jackets if you want one? Even a few for the road you know?” You inquired circling them. They smiled, but you could tell they were skeptical of you. “Oh trust me they are in top condition and !”
“I don't get cold… But thanks anyway.”
“No problem, If you need anything, And I mean absolutely anything, Simon should know where I am.” And with that you walked away, picking up anything that you could find in your path. You heaped that you made a good impression along the way.
Your mind was filled with possible outcomes and what you should do next. You were contemplating leaving. Simon and Grace's mindsets have changed and have been corrupted from what you originally wanted the Apex to be about. All the stealing and killing you heard about on their expeditions, didn't settle well with you. Everything they were teaching these kids was wrong.
You were snapped out of your trance when you heard yelling, and you started running. You gasped and saw two Apex kids running away from the Chrome person and the Deer standing there yelling at them. “What's wrong?”
“Those stupid kids were trying to ride Alan Dracula!”
“Oh. Really now? Don't worry we are going to discuss this right now. Let's go.” You said motioning for them to follow you.
“You're with me?” They asked jogging behind you.
“Yes. I'm sick of this. The Apex wasn't like this at all. All this they can't feel this and that and the other. Is a bunch of lies. And I’m going to set the story straight. Right here right now. What's your name anyway?” You spoke nonstop as you made it to his workshop.
“MT, I- thank you. So much.”
“Don't stress about it. Simon, we need to talk.” You said bursting into his workspace.
“(Y/n). What's the issue, did those nulls do something to y-. Oh.” Simon turned around looking at you with MT and the Deer. And he could tell you weren't happy, at all. “What did she tell you?”
“Oh MT told me All I need to know! Enough to know that this whole little phase you and Grace are going through has gone on for too long. As soon as Grace gets back, we are sending these two and the boy on their way. Then this whole little thing we had. Done.” You ordered. Simon looked unphased, then his face changed drastically. Tears started coming down his cheeks.
“Listen… (Y/n) it wasn't me… Grace… Ever since the new conductor came… I've just been going along with everything… I didn't know that it would affect and change things this much. I'm so sorry.” Simon broke down and clung unto you hugging you, his frame towering over your own. You froze then hugged back. You didn't know what he was going through. Now you felt bad for making him the enemy.
“Simon… I'm so sorry I... I honestly didn't know…” You hugged him close, and he kissed you on your forehead.
“I can't I've without you alright… I just cant… You mean so much to me.” You felt something poke your arm, but you paid no mind. Until you yawned and your eyes started blinking rapidly.
“It's fine. Now go take a nap alright… I want to apologize to MT alone.” Simon patted your back and you walked off into the side room sleep taking over. Next thing you knew you passed out on the bed that he had brought into his workplace.
MT watched as Simon put away a random needle back on the counter. “You Nulls always think you can get to her huh? She's too good for her own good.”
“You drugged her… Not only that, but you lied to her. Was that all just an act huh?!” MT yelled, poking him in the chest. Simon chuckled, wiping his face free of tears.
“Oh trust me she doesn't want to be awake for the next part.” Simon sat back down and got back to painting little replicas once more. With 0 care in the world as a bunch of kids came outside ready to attack

A Moth to a Flame - Chapter Two
One month later
Sasha joylessly toyed with the Music Box, opening its lid like a yawning mouth.
Who’d have thunk it? She wondered to herself. This tacky little thing could cause so much calamity?
How ludicrously out of place she looked curled up on King Andrias’ enormous throne, almost like the little girl playing pretend in the driver’s seat of her parents’ car. You’d be forgiven for not knowing she’d just led the swiftest, easiest toppling of a government in this world’s history.
Big blue dummy locked up? Check. The city’s army surrendered? Check. Their toad army less than an hour away? Check. Dimension-skipping Macguffin firmly in their position? Double Check.
Not a bad day’s work for a 13-year-old.
Marcy’s oversized sparrow was tethered to the armrest by his leg. A prize she’d taken for herself so she could cruise around her new kingdom in style. She saw to it he wasn’t under any duress, and the fact he was neck deep in an industrial sized bag of bird feed told her he was plenty comfortable.
Sasha managed a tiny smile as she reached out to run her fingers through the thickness of his coat. She dunked her hand in the bag and offered him an open palm of seeds; he eyed for a moment or two before gingerly pecking at the mound.
Thank Frog no one was around to hear the ‘d’aww’ escape her lips.
Her grandmother was the one she had to thank for her secret admiration of birds. Old lady had been a birdwatcher who ‘treated’ her to regular weekend trips into the forest when she was younger. This was long before her discovery of malls and arcades. Sasha wouldn’t dare admit it to even herself back then, but the ones they spotted together on those dewy spring mornings were beautiful to behold in their natural habitat.
Herons may now be forever ruined for her, but Joe—she thought that was his name—was a mighty impressive specimen. Poor guy somehow found the strength to carry all seven of them to Newtopia, only to nosedive into the moat at the end of the flight.
Definitely had nothing to do with her asking Marcy if she could take the reins in the last stretch. She and Anne were kind enough not to draw attention to it, same as they did the day at summer camp when they discovered her crying into her pillow. They were awesome enough to go along with her story that it was only allergies. She knew she had a true pair of girlfriends that morning.
Thinking about them only soured her mood afresh. She sprinkled the rest of the feed back into the bag and slumped against the backrest, arms petulantly crossed.
Here she was in the crowning moment of her young life and she couldn’t have been more miserable.
Maybe because her friends should have been here to share in this, but no, they had to go and act all noble. What else should she have expected? She always was the only one in the group with the guts. Anne had to be dragged kicking and screaming to ditch school and join her and Marcy in celebrating her birthday. Was it any wonder she had to keep taking control of the situation?
More likely... it was because deep down she knew she didn’t really want this. She certainly believed she did after they dropped that gloryhound newt general down a waterfall and when they successfully rallied the Toad Lords after retrieving Barrel’s Warhammer. Things only started getting complicated when they needed free tickets into Newtopia in the form of her friends.
She hadn’t counted on realising just how much she missed her clumsy, klutzy Marcy. Neither how effectively she and Anne were still able to work together as a team in spite of all the unpleasantness that had transpired between them during their time here, of which there was plenty. The fact that Anne actively encouraged her in taking down that molten toad monster was the rancid cherry atop the sludge sundae. For a while back there, it looked like they might really turn a corner and start afresh. All three of them could have gone home like none of this ever happened. Except by then it was already too late.
What recourse did she have when the Plantars invited them for the world’s most awkward dinner party or when they brought the house down at the Battle of the Bands? Tell Grime and all the toads who’d invested their manpower and futures in her that sorry, she was getting cold feet? There was only one grizzly way that would end both for her and Grime and the best scenario she could imagine involved heads on pikes.
... It didn’t matter anymore. Her friends had picked their path, she’d picked hers. As her mom always said, ‘You make your bed, you lie in it’. Funny how in her short life, she’d heard that line far too many times already.
Once she figured out how the Box worked, she’d send both Anne and Marcy on their merry way and they’d never have to see each other ever again.
Everyone would get what they want.
Good thing then she’d sent her soldiers to ransack Marcy’s room for all her research about Anne’s fateful birthday gift. Girl was a pack rat. She kept notes for every exam and project they were assigned back home. The less said about her laptop jammed with files of anime fanfiction and theories the better.
Plus, it was a good way to try and distract herself.
They came back into the throne room hauling burlap sacks full of parchments and emptied their contents at Sasha’s feet.
Daaang, girl, you've been in the zone.
She scattered them over her lap and the ample free space on the seat. They actually weren’t that hard to follow; colour coordinated with plenty of cutesy kawaii diagrams. Trademark Marbles.
Apparently, it worked a lot like those puzzle boxes Marcy got as gifts from relatives in Hong Kong. All it took was knowing the right sequence of buttons and zip! You can go wherever you want in the cosmos. Just a matter of finding the code for Earth.
‘I’m done listening to you!
I’m done trusting you!’
Sasha scowled, trying to push the thoughts to the back of her mind where they belonged. She shuffled through a couple more pages until she found the one titled in glittery green and blue lettering, ‘HOME’.
Bingo.
‘You’re a horrible person!’
Ignore. Ignore.
Now all she had to do was jot it down on her palm and—
‘AND I AM DONE. BEING. FRIENDS WITH YOU!!’
She stopped. Her shoulders drooped. Then she just threw the page down on the floor and sunk into her seat further than she thought physically possible.
She normally didn’t consider herself that thin skinned a person, but man, that one hurt.
Traces of bitter tears creeped into her eyes.
What am I even doing anymore?
The sound of footsteps on crumpling paper and someone clearing their throat snapped her out of her self-pitying torpor. She fluttered her eyes dry to see Grime standing there awkwardly among the discarded parchments.
The diminutive, one-eyed former Toad Lord was hiding something behind his back. He actually looked pretty embarrassed about it too, which for a battle hardened war vet like Grime was actually kinda adorable in Sasha’s eyes.
“I, uhh, got you something,” he said, whipping out a long rectangular present wrapped in green paper and topped with a luscious red bow. “Had it made especially for this day.”
Now if there was one thing Sasha Waybright couldn’t say no to, it was a gift, especially from a trusted friend. They were the ultimate distraction from the blues and she couldn’t have been sitting upright and tearing into this one any quicker.
“Whaaat? Grimesy, you didn’t!” What she had pulled from the ravaged packaging wielded aloft her head made her gasp. “How’d you know I wanted to duel wield?!”
It was a brand new heron sword. An exquisite green second shortsword that would compliment Ol’ Pink perfectly.
She stared proudly into the smooth steel surface, admiring the craftsmanship. When she noticed the girl staring right back at her, however, her smirk vanished in an instant. The captain of the cheerleaders, the scarred swordswoman, the conqueror of Newtopia, whatever angle she looked at it, she didn’t like what she saw. Unbelievable as it may sound, even the joy of an awesome gift like this was not enough to make everything better.
“What’s the matter? You don’t like it? Oh dang it!” Grime slammed his forehead. “I didn’t get a gift receipt!”
“No no, it’s just...” Sasha weighed the blade against her ungloved palm. Talking about these kinds of things was never easy for her. “What if Anne’s right? What if I am a horrible person?”
Grime popped up like a whack-a-mole behind the armrest. “Who cares what she thinks?” he scoffed. “You and I are in charge now, and we get to do whatever we want!”
“That’s the thing... I’m not sure what I want anymore,” she admitted wearily.
For all his years of training at the finest academies, his brutal combat in the colosseum and tactical expertise earned through a lifetime of military service as his forebears before him, this one had Grime stumped. Needless to say, talking about one’s emotions wasn't exactly encouraged during their upbringing in toad culture, so naturally it wasn’t one of his strong suits. Just one of the many things he and Sasha had in common.
“Huh.”
Still, he was a pretty fast thinker and came up with a fairly good idea on the spot.
“Why don’t you help me redecorate this place?” he suggested, resting his hand on her shoulder. “Take your mind off it. Cuz this right here...” He gestured to the cluttered mess in which she’d surrounded herself. “This is definitely not—I’m sorry, can I help you?!”
Both of them turned their heads when it became impossible to ignore Joe’s cone-shaped beak lightly nipping at Grime’s cheek.
“He probably thinks your warts are seeds.”
“For the love of—I knew he was eyeing me up on the ride here! There! Get lost!” Grime scooped up a fistful of feed and flung it over the marble floor, but the winged beast persisted with pecking his face. “Stop it! MY HEAD IS NOT A FEEDER!!”
It took an exceptional effort of willpower for Sasha not to laugh at the sight of her old man being preyed upon by the family pet.
Wow, she thought. Her old man? Was that how she saw Grimesy now? Seriously?
Perhaps up to a point. Okay, considering the options she had for parental figures back home, it wasn’t exactly the highest bar to pass, but it still meant something. Anything.
Who would have guessed this would be how they’d end up, especially given how they started off with her as his prisoner? Sure, it may have taken her helping him and the whole tower not getting turned into heron feed for her to be upgraded to his lieutenant, but they really had come a long way since then. There was a lot more honor and heart to the cranky old toad than she first thought, back when she wrote him off just as another blowhard with power. Now he genuinely considered her his equal both as a friend and comrade in arms. For Sasha, the feeling was mutual. A first for her.
When all was said and done, who else did she have left besides him and vice versa?
What the heck? Let’s tear this place up.
Untethering Joe, she whistled a tweet-tweet and gave the rope a gentle tug to encourage him to follow on their ‘indoor walkies’.
A cursory surveillance of the throne room told her there was a lot of work to be done. If this toad regime was to last a thousand years, the correct decor was an important first step. Thankfully for them, she knew a thing or two about fashion. For starters, there were way too many soft blues and purples. Rust red from top to bottom! She preferred keeping the stained glass windows, but they’d need entirely new designs. Hers truly would naturally feature in most of them, one showcasing her and Grime caving that narwhal worm’s head in with the Warhammer being an absolute must. The snakes coiling the stone pillars weren’t a bad touch, if just a bit too elegant for the whole ‘proud warrior race’ vibe they were going for, but she could still work with them. Now as for the throne, they were gonna have to replace it with something much more imposing. There was that super violent dragon show she and her parents used to watch that had the huge throne made out of swords. She was sure she had a picture somewhere on her phone to use as a reference.
“I’m sorry, what the heck is this?!”
Sasha could only denounce what they were gawking at as the single biggest affrontement to tasteful decorating known to man or amphibian. Yes, worse than inflatable furniture, carpeted bathrooms, beaded curtains, glass block bathroom windows, ‘live, laugh, love’ quotes on walls, rustic hearts, mason jars and nautical accessories all combined under the same inland roof.
Tapestries had their rightful place in a palace’s interior design, but the one sweeping across a section of wall depicting a gentle hearted Andrias sitting down by a lake, surrounded by flowers and lilypads was nothing short of vomit-inducing. Gathered at his feet and scooped up in his protective arms were his wide-eyed, childlike subjects. Even the fish and a lobster were surfacing to bask in their king’s magnanimity. Here the oversized salamander was truly the loving patriarch of everything the light touched. The mawkish display could only be topped off with a rainbow streaking across the sky.
Grime felt his stomach roile. If he ever needed an example to demonstrate the difference between kitschy and downright tacky, this was it.
“Y-y-y-yikes!” he gagged. “This thing’s gotta go!”
Sasha didn’t need a second invite. Besides, what else was Joe going to use to line his nest?
A joint effort tore the offensive piece from its place and it tumbled to the floor in a heap.
Dead silence fell over the room.
Hidden beneath the tapestry was... a mural. Including such a decoration in a throne room was hardly surprising, yet it was what it contained that shocked both the human and toad, so much so that they had to take a moment to recover.
“Woah,” they gasped at once, before starting to analyse what they saw.
The mural was a chaotic collection of nightmarish images painted on a night blue wall. Wild red flames spewing out hordes of beasts and the wreckage of buildings. Mountains of skulls and bones belonging to frogs, toads and newts alike. A flying... spaceship? A castle? Whatever it was meant to be, it firied a white beam up at what was unmistakably the Music Box. Pink, green and blue lightning bolts crackled out of the Box. Mesmerising orange gemstones or, more terrifyingly, eyes leaped off the wall and burned themselves into their minds. The frightening focal point of this one-way ticket to the school therapist’s office? Rising out of the middle of the inferno was the silhouette of a red-eyed, goliath-sized beast, its claws reaching up covetously towards the Box that hung right above its crowned head.
It may as well have been lifted straight from the tattered dream journal of a madfrog.
Any ideas of redecorating the throne room were long gone. Even the revolution they were spearheading suddenly seemed millions of miles away in the face of what they’d just stumbled upon.
Peering her eyes slightly, Sasha was the first to put a face to the shadowy leviathan, and when she did, she had to swallow her heart back down into her chest.
“Is that the king?” she asked, mystified. “With the music box?”
Sweat ran down the side of Grime’s nonplussed face. “If it is… it’s a really good thing we stopped him.”
Neither of them said it aloud, but both understood the situation at once. All this time they thought they’d been playing flipwart while the king played bog jump. Oh, how wrong they’d been. It was beyond anything that even the Toad Lords discussed. They knew that they had to reconvene with them as soon as the armies had reached the gate.
She took a couple steps closer to reexamine the mural more thoroughly, missed details emerging now that the initial shock began to wear off. Circuit board markings—the same inside her dad’s outdated computer when she foolishly dared Marcy if she could take it apart—worked their way around the images, serving as some type of frame. Odd choice for a world that didn’t even have steam engines yet. She also picked up the three small geometric figures standing atop the Box’s lid. An artist she was not, but they looked pretty human-like in design.
But humans did not exist in Amphibia. The three of them were the first of their kind to ever set foot in this dimension.
Weren’t they?
Alarm bells were ringing louder than ever before. This Andrias guy had been playing Anne and Marcy for his own ends this whole time, all to get his mitts on the Music Box! What did he plan to do with it? Right now, she still couldn’t say, but it was all bad. Outside of a kickin’ rock band, fire and skulls together were never a good thing!
Even Joe’s feathers were puffing up anxiously against her back. Not turning away from the mural, she raised her hand and patted his risen crest.
“I know, big guy. I don’t like it either.”
Grime’s voice rang urgently in her ears, “Lieutenant! Get over here, quick!!”
Sasha had spun on her heels and sprinted down the room to find Grime standing the wreckage of what used to be a display of armour. He’d evidently acted on a hunch while she’d been preoccupied. Judging by his thunderstruck expression, he’d just discovered something far worse.
“What is iooooh boy!”
This new second mural reminded Sasha a lot of Egyptian hieroglyphs. If there was any room for doubt about the technicolor stick guys, there was none here. Standing tall against an indigo backdrop in a neat row were the outlines of human beings; long gangly appendages, stumpy noses and everything. Some were wearing hooded capes, others were decked out in suits of armour. The couple in the middle looked particularly regal. No prizes for guessing the little wooden box they were holding in their hands, cementing their authority as if it were the globus cruciger.
Faded inscriptions were engraved along the bottom. They were written in a more archaic amphibian dialect, but being a toad of higher education, Grime was able to give translating them a decent shot.
These great beings of magic and might
Travelled from beyond to serve the night
Bow before these children of man
Or know the wrath of the—
“... Wu Clan?” He cocked his one good eye up at her. “Iiiii’m not getting it.”
There it was. Floodlights flashed in Sasha’s head. All colour drained from her face. A million and one thoughts were now firing across her brain at once, threatening to send her into cerebral shutdown.
It was at that moment she knew she’d been played. They all had. She didn’t know whether to be absolutely furious, betrayed or impressed.
Why that conniving, devious little—
That's when they heard the BOOM outside the window.

Hugs - Tierna Davidson Imagine
prompt: the reader just really needs a hug from someone.
warnings: mentions of death.
words: 2423
Tumblr media
(Y/N) POV
I smiled as I felt a familiar pair of arms wrap around me. I grinned a little as I held onto the arms that had been wrapped around my neck. The person just pulled me closer to them and it felt right.
“Is there something I can do for you, Baby T?”
“You looked like you could use a hug,” the defender softly said behind me. I couldn’t help but smile at that. I had gotten closer to the defender since I had been traded to the Stars. “I hate to see my favorite forward sad.”
“Well, trust me, I could never be sad when you give me a hug.”
The woman grinned when I turned to face her. I bit my lip as the blue eyed woman pulled me closer to her. I wrapped my own arms around her.
“I love your hugs,” I whispered.
The defender held me tighter for another minute before pulling back. She seemed satisfied when she saw the smile on my face. Tierna gave me a smile before she ran off to join Becky and Alyssa as they were waiting for her by the hotel doors.
“You have it bad,” a voice teased. I rolled my eyes before turning to face Sonnett. I sent her a glare before turning to look at the others with her. We all tended to hang out with each other since we were mostly the youngest on the team. “Hey, (Y/N), if you and Tierna get together will that make Tierna part of the Thorns family?”
I rolled my eyes at Sonnett. It was a common joke that Sonnett had more than one parent on the national team since Tobin acted like our parent between those of us who played for the Thorns. Although I had been traded from Portland to Chicago, Tobin was still my team mom considering her and Christen had taken me under their wing almost immediately after I had joined the national team.
“Shut up, Em,” Lindsey said as she pushed the defender. Lindsey turned to me and gave me a small smile. “Don’t listen to her, (Y/N). If you like Tierna, that’s fine.”
“She just gives amazing hugs,” I shrugged as I defended myself. I shook my head as we were getting off topic. “So, what are we going to do today?”
“Well, we were thinking about going shopping,” Mal admitted. I grinned because that sounded like an amazing idea. “We were wondering if you’d like to go with us.”
“I’d love to,” I grinned before Rose grabbed my arm and started to drag me out of the hotel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I grinned as I hugged the defender from behind causing her to jump. “Scared, Davidson?”
“Shut up,” Tierna muttered as she shoved me. I grinned at her. “You know, if you hadn’t been trying to scare me, I would have said that you give pretty great hugs too. But, it wasn’t that great. What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing in Zumiez?” I furrowed my brow in confusion. I was actually surprised that Tierna was here. “I’m surprised that you’re here. I didn’t realize that you or Becky or Alyssa likes to skateboard.”
“Tobin’s with us,” Tierna rolled her eyes at me. She glanced around us before pulling me closer to give me a kiss. “Besides I thought I’d get you some new clothes.”
“You know, I can get my own clothes, T,” I smiled at her. Tierna only shrugged at that before turning back to the rack of clothes. “Are they really for me or are you just buying hoodies for me to wear until they smell like me so you can steal them and wear them?”
Tierna threw a glare at me before turning back to the clothes. She pulled a shirt off the rack and held it up to me. I looked at her with a raised eyebrow before she gave me a smile and threw the shirt over her arm.
“What are you doing here?” Tierna asked as she turned to a different rack of clothes.
“What am I doing here?” I asked Tierna to make sure I heard her right. Tierna nodded as I moved over to her side. “What am I doing in Zumiez? You do realize that this is like one of my favorite skateboard shops, right? I came to get a new skateboard. Besides, I had one shipped here so I’m picking that up.”
“I meant at the mall,” Tierna said.
“Oh,” I said as I slowly nodded. I glanced behind me to see if the others had followed me in yet or not, but they hadn’t. “Um, Mal said that the others decided that they wanted to come shopping so I joined them. Well, I better go get my skateboard and look at the ones that they have in.”
“Yeah, you should.”
I gave Tierna a small smile and I would have given her a kiss but I noticed Becky out of the corner of my eye. I smiled at the forward and sent her a wave before I headed to the back of the store. I greeted Tobin since she was looking at the skateboards before I joined her. I ultimately didn’t find a skateboard that I liked, but Tobin did. I got the skateboard that I had sent to the store before leaving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I smiled as I took a seat at the table for the press interview after the game. We had won and I had done really good. I also knew that the team had already left the stadium since I had already taken a shower and sent my stuff back with Lindsey since we were rooming together.
“What’s up, guys?” I grinned at the reporters. I immediately spotted Katie Nolan in the front row. “Katie, what you got for me?”
“Wonderful game, (Y/N). Amazing assist tonight and you had a beautiful header,” Katie congratulated me. I smiled cause Katie always knew how to make me more relaxed. “You’re getting ready to go to the World Cup, what’s been your process for getting ready for that?”
“I’ve been training a lot with just different players on the team. I went on this little road trip during December and went through Seattle, Colorado, New Jersey, Connecticut. I went to Orlando and spent some time with Ash and Ali. Recently I spent time with Alex and Tierna in California,” I shrugged. I had been working out a lot with my different teammates. “I just have been working with my teammates. Been getting our chemistry to be better and just improving my skills all around.”
I kept answering a few questions. A man entering in the back caught my attention while I was giving an answer. I watched as he whispered something to a man. Once I wrapped up my answer, I didn’t have time to ask anyone else for a question as the man stood up.
“(Y/N), when is the funeral going to be? Will you stay for the rest of the camp even with the deaths?”
I furrowed my brow in confusion as I looked over at Aaron since he was our press manager. He was busy on the phone as I looked back at the reporters. My phone buzzed on the table beside me. I glanced at it and noticed the text from my brother.
“Is your parents’ death going to stop you from going to France?”
Most of the room turned to look at the man in surprise. I looked to Aaron as I started to panic because I had no idea what he was talking about. Katie rushed to the table and I was surprised that the security didn’t try to stop her. She immediately unplugged the mic.
“Get out of here,” Katie whispered. I looked at her in confusion. “He’s trying to get your reaction. Get out of here.”
I nodded and stood up from the table. I kept my head down as I started to leave the room. Aaron fell into step beside me as he helped pull me out of the room. Once we were out of the room and far enough away, I stopped Aaron.
“What was he talking about?”
“I’m sorry, (Y/N),” Aaron shook his head. He took a deep breath. “I would have told them you were unavailable if I had known.” All Aaron was doing was making me panic more. I didn’t like the bad feeling that had washed over me. “You should call your brother. I’ll be down the hall, let me know if you need me to call you a ride to the hotel.”
I furrowed my brow in confusion as Aaron walked down the hall. I pulled my phone from my pocket and opened it. I sighed before I called my brother. The phone rang a few times before there was an answer.
“(Y/N)?” the voice asked. The first thing I noticed about Blake’s voice was how shaky it was. Blake’s voice was never shaky.
“Blake, what’s going on?” I asked. I just needed to know what had happened. Why I had been asked those questions during an interview.
“(Y/N), Mom and Dad-”
Blake’s sob interrupted him from speaking. I started to shake my head. It couldn’t be true.
“Blake, tell me...” I stopped as I turned and pressed my hand against the wall before resting my head against it. I took a deep breath. “Tell me there’s nothing wrong. Tell me that this is just some kind of sick joke.”
“There was a car accident. The guy ran a red light,” Blake choked out. I started to gasp for breath. “They said they never had a chance.”
I turned and pressed my back against the wall as I slid down it. It wasn’t until I had been sitting on the ground for a while before I reached for my phone again. I ended the call to my brother as my hands shook. I opened up my texts and it took me a minute to send a text to Tierna asking where she was since my hands were shaking so bad.
Tierna didn’t take long to text me back letting me know that she was in Alex and Allie’s room with the rest of the team for team bonding. I shot off the ground as I ran out of the stadium. I didn’t even bother with calling an uber or a cab. I head straight to the hotel not caring that it was a couple miles away or the fact that I was in jeans and a hoodie. I just needed Tierna.
Once I got to the hotel, I raced for the stairs knowing that I would be able to get up them faster than I would in the elevator. It didn’t take me long to get to Allie and Alex’s room before I knocked on the door. I tried to wipe away the tears from my cheeks knowing that the whole team was in the room. Becky opened the door with a smile.
“(Y/N), are you okay?” She asked, her smile dropping. My breathing sped up as I could only think about what had happened. Becky put an arm on my shoulder. “Hey, I need you to calm down.”
“(Y/N)?” Tierna’s voice called out. I pushed past Becky and made my way into the room. I ignored the looks that my teammates were giving me as my eyes landed on Tierna. “Hey, what’s wrong?”
“I need a hug.”
Tierna nodded and immediately shot up from her spot on the bed to wrap me into a hug. I wrapped myself around her before I finally broke down into tears. Tierna kept whispering in my ear trying to calm me down.
“They were in a car accident,” I finally whispered in her ear. Tierna held onto me tighter. “My parents. They didn’t make it.”
Tierna turned so that she was facing the rest of the team. I buried my head into her neck before she grabbed under my thighs causing me to wrap my legs around her waist.
“I’m taking (Y/N) to my room,” Tierna said. I held onto Tierna tighter in case someone tried to take me away from Tierna even though I knew none of our teammates would argue with Tierna. “Sonnett, do you mind staying with Lindsey tonight?”
“No, it’s no problem,” Sonnett assured.
Tierna nodded before she turned around again. I wasn’t surprised that Tierna didn’t make me walk myself as she carried me out of the room. Tierna took me back to her room. She held me as I cried without asking what had happened.
I eventually fell asleep from crying so much. It wasn’t until I woke up that I realized that I wasn’t in my own hotel room with Lindsey. I also wasn’t in my own clothes, but I recognized Tierna’s smell on them instantly. I reached for the other side of the bed but Tierna wasn’t there. I looked over to the other bed, but she wasn’t there either. It took me a moment before I heard the water running from the shower.
I got out of the bed before softly walking to the bathroom. I opened the door as I could see the figure behind the shower curtain. She was softly singing and it made me smile at how soft her voice was.
“Tierna?” I said. The shower curtain was pulled back before Tierna stuck her head out to look at me. She looked surprised to see me. “Do you mind if I stay in here while you take your shower.”
Tierna’s eyes softened before she shook her head. I gave her a soft smile before I sat on the bathroom sink counter. Tierna gave me a smile before she continued to sing causing me to lean back against the mirror. I didn’t even realize when Tierna got out of the shower and dried off before putting on her clothes before she pushed my knees apart and stood in between my legs. I opened my eyes and looked at her.
“How are you doing, (Y/N)?” Tierna asked. I sighed as I shook my head. I didn’t even want to be more than a few feet from Tierna right now. “You want a hug?”
I nodded causing Tierna to wrap her arms around me as she pulled me off the sink counter. I wrapped my own arms around Tierna. We stood there for a while before Tierna pulled me back into the room and on the bed. I wrapped myself around Tierna as she pulled me closer to her once we were laying down.
“Do you want me to go get your stuff? Jill’s letting me fly with you,” Tierna softly said. I let out a small whine when she tried to pull away from me. “We’re gonna be flying this afternoon.”
“I just want you close right now.”
“I can do that.”

Summary: Calum and your older brother were best friends. Although the pair of you got off on the wrong foot, you spent the summer together and fell for one another somewhere along the way. However, when your brother moved away for college, Calum disappeared, too. But a long drive serves to close the distance between the pair of you. | Vaguely Stranger Things AU (it’s set in Hawkins, reader works at Starcourt, mentions Steve, and Calum’s story is loosely based on Billy’s here). Brother’s best friend, car sex, mechanic!Cal.
Word Count: 11k
The cool October air was a welcome sensation after spending the day locked in stuffy classrooms. It wasn’t quite cold enough for snow, nor was it cold enough for heavy winter gear, but the bite in the air was enough to make you not want to linger for long as you exited Hawkins High School. Instead of crossing the parking lot to join your friends by the baseball field, you paused under the entryway awning. The worn white-washed metal creaked in the wind and sent an unpleasant shiver down your spine as you scanned the parking lot for your older brother, Jason. With your car in the shop and him home for fall break, he’d been tasked with picking you up from school and dropping you off at the mall for work. However, his familiar red Firebird was nowhere to be seen and you briefly wondered if he’d forgotten you.
Your disappointment and annoyance only lingered for a moment because the second you spotted the equally familiar blue Camaro, you knew that that wasn’t the case.
The car that had quickly come to be known around town as belonging to a reckless young man with a penchant for heavy music and driving just a little too fast shined like a beacon in the parking lot. Curious freshmen milled about it, walking just a little slower as they passed to glance at the car and it’s driver, before averting their eyes and whispering amongst themselves. You spotted Jason leaning against the passenger door, Ray-Bans shielding his eyes from the late afternoon sun as he reveled in the crowd watching his every move, but he wasn’t the one to capture your attention.
The owner of the car, dressed in a burgundy button-down with a worn black leather jacket thrown over top, was leaning against the driver’s door. He had a cigarette between his lips, rings adorning his fingers that shined in the light whenever he moved his hand, and he looked like he was holding himself back from snapping at the kids who get a little too close to his car. Calum, your brother’s best friend of nearly a year, loved his car more than anything and you knew that it had to be causing him a great deal of pain to let it sit in the dirt and gravel lot of Hawkins High once more.
The car was only a fixture of the parking lot for a little less than a full school year. Calum and his family had moved to Hawkins in October of his senior year and his car spent more time navigating the backroads of Hawkins than it did sitting in the Hawkins High parking lot. Whenever Calum and your brother both attended school, cars parked in the corner of the lot where they could easily peel out the moment the final bell rang, they gathered the attention of almost every student at Hawkins. But when the pair of them graduated in May, it was as if everyone suddenly forgot about the blue Camaro and its owner.
However, you supposed that was the longevity of the high school attention span.
Following their graduation, Jason had gone on to become a full-fledged college student. The maroon sweatshirt, embroidered with the college’s crest, adorned his body and drew the attention of nearly every girl in town whenever he visited home. His visits were frequent, a little too frequent, and you knew that they were mostly just to relive the days when he was king rather than a lowly pledge in a fraternity he didn’t even want to join but you couldn’t really find it within yourself to complain.
Whenever Jason was home, your parents forget you existed for the weekend and dropped the questions about your grades or your future to focus on their favorite child.
Calum, however, stayed in Hawkins.
His parents were, and still are, upset that he decided to forego a college education to work in a garage but Calum remained steadfast in his decision. He wanted to return to California and getting a job was the quickest way to save money for his trip back. He stood by his choice, defended it as fiercely as he could, and took things in stride when his parents kicked him out. He protested at first, claiming that he could handle it on his own, but by June he was living in the bedroom your older sister once occupied. For the first few weeks, he was under the impression that no one knew he was there, save for Jason, and you all let him. Your parents never said a word but your mother made sure to keep things she knew Calum liked in the pantry and stocked the bathroom with a few bottles of his favorite shampoo and body wash under the guise of wanting him to be comfortable whenever he visited.
Calum lived with you until September. It was only when Jason began to pack up his things to move into his dorm room that Calum managed to find a small place on the outskirts of town. He knew that that would be the only way he could afford to get back to California so he bit the bullet and moved into the small house, not much bigger than the one bedroom it contained. And though you hated to admit it, you missed having him around.
When he first moved in, Calum managed to avoid you like the plague. Part of you believed that he was under the assumption that you’d tell your parents and get him kicked out but after it became clear that he was living in your sister’s old room and you never said a word, he realized that you wouldn’t do that to him. When it became clear that he was living with you and not just crashing for the night or spending a little too much time with your brother, your teasing didn’t stop because you knew that would only alert your parents. Instead, you focused on the grease under his fingernails or staining his cheeks. You focused on the small things, ones that weren’t going to draw any attention to anything out of the ordinary, and that’s how Calum knew that even if the two of you hadn’t gotten off on the right foot, you weren’t going to be malicious.
Over the summer, you got used to Calum’s presence. Most days, the two of you were the only ones home. Your brother spent most of his summer driving around with whatever girl that managed to pique his interest that day while your parents worked longer and longer hours in the summer months. Calum, on the other hand, spent his days working at the garage and his downtime sitting in the window, chain smoking and writing, or lying on the floor listening to a new mixtape.
On the days that he would listen to new mixtapes, you would leave your bedroom door open to hear the music he played. There was a lot of rock, a lot of punk that you weren’t familiar with, but you liked it just the same. And when Calum realized, he began leaving his own door open and turning the music up a little louder so you could hear it better.
It was a slow evolution but by the end of the summer, you were often found sat on your bed, book unopened by your side, as Calum sat in the window and smoked. You rarely spoke to one another, you didn’t need to, but you grew used to spending time with Calum and looked forward to spending your evenings with him.
When he left, Calum left a shoe box full of mixtapes on your bed. Some were the ones that you’d listened to together, others were brand new. The new ones contained all of the songs he knew you loved, the ones that made you light up whenever they played, and each had a special, unheard song at the end with a note that read, ‘You’ll like this one, trust me.’
You knew that things would change when he moved out, the mixtapes should’ve given you a hint that things were never going to be the same, but you hadn’t realized that was Calum’s way of saying goodbye. You realized that you wouldn’t see him much anymore but you hadn’t counted on not seeing him at all. In fact, you hadn’t even seen him when you went with your father to drop off your car at the garage. You knew that he was working, you’d chosen a time that you knew he’d be there just to see his face, but you left with the bitter taste of disappointment in the back of your throat as your father chatted about the weather.
And now, as you took in the sight of him, almost entirely unchanged in the nearly two months since you last saw him, the bitter feeling returned. The churning in your stomach was only made worse by the giggling of two juniors beside you. You watched as the one of them caught sight of the guys and bit your lip to keep from commenting as she pulled a cigarette from her pack and stared at the car.
“Look,” the smoker huffed, nudging her friend to capture her attention, “it’s Calum and Jason.”
The pair of them stared at the car, their eyes wide and mouths open, and it was like watching a train wreck in slow motion as the friend shrugged off her jacket to reveal her low-cut top. “They get hotter every time I see them,” she swooned as she tugged the top down just a little lower, the lace of her bra peeking out. “Think we should go say hi?”
“Duh,” the first girl returned as she copied her friends actions and tugged her top down just a little lower. “Maybe they’ll give us a ride home,” she giggled, winking at her friend to ensure she’d gotten the meaning behind her words.
This time, you did roll your eyes as you watched them bound across the parking lot. The girl with the cigarette approached Calum, twirling her permed hair around her finger as she attempted to strike up a conversation. She tried her hardest, making her intentions so clear that even the most oblivious of individuals could pick up on them, and the storm of emotions raged even louder in the pit of your stomach.
You remained under the awning, gripping the strap of your bag just a little tighter, as you weighed the costs of walking to work. Part of you believed that neither of them would notice, your brother certainly wouldn’t, not with the attention of nearly every girl at Hawkins High on them, and you knew from previous experience that they wouldn’t hesitate to leave you if you took too long. However, the mall is nearly two miles from the school and you hadn’t counted on Calum being the one to pick you up so you’d opted for style over comfort when getting dressed for school.
You knew that there was no way for you to get to work on time without them driving you, nor was there any way for you to get there without destroying your feet and freezing, so you heaved a heavy sigh of defeat and crossed the gravel parking lot. You were uncomfortably aware of the eyes on you as you brushed past the freshmen. Those who remembered your brother associate you with him, they knew why you were climbing into the Camaro, but those who didn’t were already sharing hushed whispers as they watched you cross your arms over your chest and wait for your brother to notice your presence.
You could tell that Calum was wholly uninterested in the girl throwing herself at him, he usually was, and it sent your heart rate skyrocketing when he noticed you first. When his eyes met yours, you felt your breath catch in your throat and your cheeks heat and you cursed yourself for being such a high school girl as you watched him drop his cigarette to the ground and snub out the flame. He glanced at your brother, rolled his eyes at the shameless flirting, and nodded his head for you to get in on his side. He turned away from the girl without so much as acknowledging her and opened the car door for you. When you brushed past her, she blinked, surprised and offended, before she glared daggers at you. Once you were settled in the back seat, you shrugged at her, trying your best to hide the smug smile that you felt like she deserved, and bite back a laugh as she stomped around the car to grab her friend.
Calum climbed into the car, slamming the door behind him and revving the engine to gain your brother’s attention. Jason glanced down, grinned at you in the backseat, before he straightened up and pressed a kiss to the girl’s cheek. He said something to her that got a blush and a giggle before he climbed into the car and sent her a wave.
True to his reputation, Calum peeled out of the parking lot far too quickly. You gripped the seat, your nails digging into the leather in an attempt to keep from sliding around the backseat, as you tried your hardest to keep your face as neutral as possible. When your brother first befriended Calum and you found yourself occupying his backseat more and more, Calum always teased you for not being able to handle riding with him. He teased you for the grimaces and faces of displeasure that you often made whenever he drove and took delight in shocking you with his driving whenever possible. Things had changed since the last time you were in his backseat, though, and you had a feeling that he wouldn’t bother commenting on whatever expression you managed to pull. However, you didn’t want to give him any reason to speak to you when he so clearly didn’t want to so you managed your facial expressions as carefully as you could.
Though you’d had nearly two months to contemplate his reasonings, you still weren’t sure why Calum cut contact with you. There was no possible motive that you could think of to explain what made him decide to pretend that you didn’t exist. You left one another on good terms, or so you thought, and you’d spent the summer under the impression that the two of you were at least acquaintances, if not friends. You ended the summer on a high note, far from the bickering duo you’d been upon his arrival in Hawkins, and you hoped that the camaraderie would continue as you enjoyed your time with him. However, as you sat in the backseat, the atmosphere was so tense that you could feel it suffocating you and you regretted choosing not to walk.
Jason, if he noticed the atmosphere, didn’t mention it. Instead, he turned in his seat and grinned at you. “Hawkins High never changes,” he told you, “it never gets old.”
He’d taken to both reminiscing on his high school days, fondly remembering the good times he had roaming the halls of Hawkins High, as well as sharing his newfound college wisdom with you every chance he got and it made you roll your eyes as he began to list the differences he’d found in college. Calum, too, looked tired of hearing all about university life and made a face at you in the rearview mirror as Jason mentioned the fraternity house for what had to be the millionth time. Despite yourself, you giggled at Calum’s reaction and it pulled a small, barely there smile from him before he returned his full attention to the road.
You stared at Calum in the rearview mirror for a long moment, carefully taking in the dark circles beneath his eyes and the curls of his hair, before Jason’s voice cut through the fog of Calum clouding your brain. “I’m serious,” Jason said, recapturing your attention as Calum turned onto the backroad that lead to the mall, “you’re gonna love college, kid. But enjoy your last year here. These are the best years of your life.”
Calum head you mumble ‘bullshit’ under your breath and smiled despite himself. He knew just how much you had always hated high school, many of the late night conversations the two of you shared were spent bitching about work or school, and he knew how much worse it had been for you as Jason’s little sister. You’d dealt with people only wanting to befriend you to get to Jason, you’d dealt with teacher’s having preconceived notions of you because of Jason, and you’d worked your ass off your entire life to live up to the pedestal your parents have put him on, despite his obvious shortcomings.
When Calum met you, he knew that despite the two of you being siblings, there couldn’t be two more different people. You were kind, studious and steadfast in your adherence to rules, while Jason was never afraid to cut class or sneak a cigarette behind the gym. Jason partook in petty pranks like knocking the books out of a student’s hands or throwing wads of paper at his friends while you were the one to help pick up textbooks and sweep classrooms.
Calum took to teasing you almost immediately and your perfect reputation was, in the beginning, the reason why. He wanted to see if he could get a rise out of Hawkins’ golden girl. He wanted to see if he could get you to crack, get you to swear or throw something at him or just display a purely negative emotion, but as the year wore on, that grew old. He no longer wanted to see you angry. Instead, Calum continued his teasing purely for fun. He realized, early on, that you enjoyed trading jabs back and forth. He realized that you enjoyed the mental sparring and kept it up as long as you seemed interested. Even during the summer, when you barely spoke to one another, you traded jabs as if nothing had changed and it made him realize that the two of you weren’t so different.
Despite the initial tension between the two of you, you always cared for Calum just the way that Jason did. You brought him blankets whenever he crashed at your place after a party and distracted your parents long enough for him to sneak out on mornings that the boys overslept. Before he graduated, you spent two weeks helping him study for his chemistry final just to make sure that he passed and would be able to walk with Jason. You’d spent hours making flashcards with the excuse that you could always use them for yourself when you took the class and spent even more hours in his car, hidden from the outside world as you quizzed him.
When he moved in with you, you kept up the care and made sure that he had whatever he needed. You managed to sneak his clothes into the laundry room (although your mother caught on fairly quickly) and took the blame for the open window in Sarah’s room any time your parents asked. You let him borrow your key on nights he would be working late or stayed up far later than you usually would just to let him in the house. Though the two of you spent your nights talking about anything and everything, about your hopes for the future and dreams that would never pan out, you kept your expectations vague. Neither of you ever voiced your thoughts about your newfound relationship aloud and Calum appreciated it all.
However, as the summer wore on, Calum began to see the impact that your spending time together was having on you. He began to see the stamp that he was leaving on you and it made him worry that everyone else would be able to see it, too.
The change in your music taste wasn’t so bad. Several of your friends were into rock music, they liked the guys in tight jeans and half-buttoned shirts, so he knew that the change would’ve come around eventually, naturally. Plus, your brother listened to The Clash and The Ramones before the two of them met. You were bound to be exposed to it someday. However, when you traded in your pink skirts for a pair of acid wash jeans and came home wearing a pair of black Chuck Taylors that you’d bought with one of your paychecks, he began to worry about the influence he was having on you.
But it was only when you asked if you could have a cigarette and spent the night sitting on the roof with him, smoking to the soundtrack of Fleetwood Mac, that he realized just how deep you both were.
You both had carved out a routine, clinging to one another without realizing it, and it scared him. He didn’t want to be the reason that you skipped school or started smoking. He didn’t want to be the reason that you changed your wardrobe from pastels to deep, dark colors or rebelled against your parents. He didn’t want to be the reason that Hawkins’ golden girl became tarnished.
To keep that from happening, Calum did what he had always done best and ran.
He decided that you would be better off without him and his influence. He reasoned that keeping his distance would be beneficial to you both and it had been easier than he imagined it would be now that he had a place of his own and a full-time job at the garage. With you stuck in school during the day and working at night, he was usually able to avoid you even when he did go into town for groceries or a bite to eat at the diner. That wasn’t to say, however, that there hadn’t been a few close calls. The most recent of which, you dropping off your car at the garage with your father, left him ducking into a storage closet and pretending to do inventory until you left. His co-workers found the entire situation absolutely hilarious, Calum Hood hiding from a spoiled princess, but he’d decided he could take the teasing so long as it kept him away from you.
Unfortunately, this was one encounter that he couldn’t avoid. He’d already agreed to spending his day off with your brother, had agreed to going into town and getting a milkshake at the diner or driving the backroads to listen to the newest mixtape he’d made, so he couldn’t pretend to be busy when your brother mentioned needing to swing by the school to pick you up. It meant that he would have to face you for the first time in over a month, it meant that he would be locked inside the car with you until he could get you to the mall, but he decided that he’d have to face you eventually so he might as well get it over with.
It also didn’t hurt that your brother never knew about the time the two of you spent together leading Calum to believe that you’d be far less likely to give him the explosive reaction he once wanted so badly from you in Jason’s company.
The plan that the two of them concocted was simple. They would drop you off at the mall for work and go grab a bite to eat before spending the afternoon driving the backroads that they now know better than the actual roads of Hawkins. Calum imagined that you would be upset with him, imagined that you would at least give him a glare or a half-assed puppy dog pout that he knew worked on every other man in your life, but he was surprised to find that you barely looked at him. One of his co-workers told him that you’d asked about him, casually dropping his name to your father and pretending that you didn’t care when one of the others told you both that Calum had stepped out, while another told him that it was obvious how disappointed you were. Hearing that sent a pang of guilt straight to Calum’s heart and he felt it, burning hot and bright in his chest, as you pointedly avoided looking at him.
He hated doing this to you, hated being that guy even though he swore he’d never lead anyone on, but the moment he realized that you both felt the same things for one another, he felt the need to distance himself. He wasn’t quite sure if you realized it yourself, he knew that you definitely hadn’t caught on to his feelings for you, and he thought that he preferred it that way. Things were easy when you were just friends, teasing one another for the hell of it and sharing conversations without any expectations, but the moment feelings got involved, he knew that it was going to be hell.
He knew that he planned to leave Hawkins the minute he had enough money to return to California. He knew that you planned on moving to New York for college in less than a year. He knew that your days would be numbered before you even began them and that you’d only be setting yourselves up for heartbreak if you were to give a relationship a shot. He also knew that the attention he got, from girls your age and from the women in town with nothing better to do than search for a Madonna-inspired boy toy, bothered you and he would never want you to feel insecure in your relationship.
The last thing Calum wanted was to break your heart and that’s what he imagined would happen if the two of you ended up dating. He also knew that dating him came with a certain stigma that you absolutely did not deserve.
As he was so often reminded, you were the golden girl of Hawkins. Mothers encouraged their daughters to be more like you, fathers encouraged their sons to try and date you. Teachers, despite their preconceived notions connecting you to your brother, learned to love you and any place you’d worked had experienced a boom in business. Calum knew that the golden girl dating a mechanic, one who opted out of college and had a reputation for liking fast cars and even faster women, wouldn’t go over well. Though he was sure your parents wouldn’t have a problem with it, he knew that everyone else in Hawkins would have something to say so he told himself that this was for the best. He told himself that you were better off without him and that you would forget about him soon enough.
He only hoped the same was true for himself.
“Calum, you missed the turn!”
Your voice, tone obviously annoyed and a little harsher than he was sure you intended, brought him back to reality. He blinked, breaking out of the cloud of regret and the consideration of what-if’s he’d been overthinking since he moved out, and swore as he stepped on the breaks. You yelped, surprised by the suddenness of his stopping, and cried out in pain as your shoulder slammed into the back of Jason’s seat. Jason laughed as you groaned in pain, gripping the door handle to keep yourself in place as Calum made what was possibly the most illegal u-turn you’d ever witnessed, and you had to resist the urge to smack him. Calum at least had the decency to look sheepish as you leveled a glare at him through the rearview mirror and he managed to mumble an apology as he took the correct turn and pulled into the parking lot.
He pulled into an open spot close to the front door and stared up at the mall, looming bright and shiny and new in front of him, as Jason climbed out of the car to let you out. He didn’t want to look at you, didn’t want to risk feeling even guiltier than before, but he couldn’t help himself as he caught a glimpse of your waist, skin exposed by your shirt riding up. He thought back to the summer, back to the night you shrugged off your t-shirt and shorts and jumped into the pool without a second thought, and the pang of regret was stronger than any he’d felt in a long time.
He didn’t want to let his life be ruled by fear, nor did he want you to become the one who got away, but he knew that you deserved better. You deserved someone who was going somewhere in life, someone who would make something of themselves. He had no business fucking up your future, not when he’d already fucked up his, so he kept his eyes on the elaborate exterior of the Starcourt Mall entrance as he listened to you and Jason speak.
You adjusted your clothing as you climbed out of the car, moving quickly to avoid the air nipping at any accidentally exposed skin, and wrapped your coat a little tighter around your body. “Are you going to pick me up after work?” you asked Jason as you shifted your weight from one foot to the other, almost afraid of his answer.
“Yeah,” he nodded, laughing slightly as he watched you rub your sore shoulder. “I’m on chauffeur duty the entire time I’m home,” he informed you before he asked, “You get off at eight, right?” When you confirmed his assumption, Jason nodded once more and reached out to ruffle your hair. “I’ll see you at eight, then,” he hummed, a little too happily for your sour mood. “Have a good shift, kid!”
Jason gripped your shoulders and turned you to face the mall entrance before he nudged your back and sent you walking forward. You rolled your eyes at his impatience as you heard the car door shut and the music dramatically increase in volume. You glanced over your shoulder at the pair of them as Calum peeled out of the parking lot once more, tires squealing as he narrowly avoided hitting another car. You watched, unable to tear your eyes away, until his car disappeared around a bend in the road. You heaved a quiet sigh once you were certain they were gone and made your way into the mall.
You took your time, wandering through the newly built megastructure with a weak sense of intrigue, as you still had fifteen minutes until you officially clocked in. Your eyes lingered on the window displays of certain shops, dresses and skirts catching your eye and calling your name, as you attempted to rid your head of any thoughts about Calum. You wanted to forget that you’d seen him, wanted to forget that he still made your heart beat a little too fast and a swarm of butterflies erupt in the pit of your stomach, but all of your efforts were for naught as he was still the most prominent thought on your mind as you enter the small retail shop that was owned by the same couple who own the ice cream parlor you’d worked for over the summer.
Your co-worker, a homeschooled girl who meant well but really had very little experience socializing, bombarded you with questions the moment you entered the shop. You were never late, always there by three-thirty on the dot to spend the extra thirty minutes doing homework before you officially clocked in, so the ten minutes you lost to Calum’s missed turn and your own reluctance to get into the car were more than enough cause for Emily to panic. The first question out of her mouth was, “Is everything alright?” and her tone almost suggested that she was hoping it wasn’t just so she could be entertained.
You fought the urge to roll your eyes as you stashed your bag beneath the counter and grabbed your name tag. “It’s fine,” you assured her as you went ahead and clocked in, despite being a bit early for your shift. She trailed after you as you stepped around the counter and began searching for tasks to keep you busy. As you began folding sweaters and straightening displays, you continued, “My brother and his friend dropped me off. He missed a turn and it took a few extra minutes. No big deal.”
“Friend?” Emily asked, voice clearly displaying her intrigue as she followed your lead and grabbed a sweater of her own to fold. “Do you mean a certain friend named Calum?”
This time you did roll your eyes. You bit your tongue, regretting ever having mentioned Calum to her in the first place, and debated not answering. However, you knew Emily well enough by now to know that she was like a dog with a bone, she wouldn’t give up until you satisfied her curiosity. So, you nodded. “Yeah,” you sighed as you reached for another sweater, “Calum. Again, it wasn’t a big deal.”
Emily snorted a laugh, disbelief evident as she straightened a display of winter gear. “It’s a very big deal,” she insisted as she watched you fold yet another sweater. She moved closer to you, practically stood on top of you, and reminded you, “This is the first time you’ve seen him since he moved out and gave you those super sweet mixtapes.”
You really regretted sharing the detail about the mixtapes as you dropped the sweater you’d picked up and turned to face her. She jumped, startled by your sudden closeness, and took a step back. She smiled at you, unassuming and sweet, and the desire to roll your eyes had never been greater. You managed to keep yourself from making any unnecessary facial expressions or snapping at her as you turned back to the display in front of you. Although you wanted to agree with her, although you would have liked to believe that seeing Calum for the first time in nearly two months was a big deal, you didn’t want to give her the satisfaction. So, you offered a half-hearted shrug as you asserted, “It really wasn’t a big deal. It was just a ride. And it’s not like we owe it to one another to hang out. We’ve both been busy and now that Jason’s gone, there really isn’t much of a reason for us to hang out.”
You kept telling yourself that, kept telling yourself that Jason was the only reason you and Calum ever got so close, but you knew that that wasn’t true. There was something there, something real between the two of you that was simmering beneath the surface all summer, but whatever it was, you were certain that it was the reason Calum no longer wanted anything to do with you.
Maybe he’d come to his senses, realized he could do better than some high schooler who went to bed at ten o’clock and followed every rule to the letter. Maybe he’d realized that you were far too different, too boring or prudish, for a future together. Maybe his feelings were never real but a product of your proximity to one another, completely forgotten now that he no longer shared the same roof as you.
Regardless of the reason, it still hurt and dwelling on the subject only made the acrid bitterness in the back of your throat even stronger. So, before Emily could respond, you changed the subject and asked, “Has it been busy today?”
Business was steady throughout your shift. The holiday crowds had yet to assemble and your patrons were mostly high school students looking to kill time but there was enough for you to do that you didn’t spend the entire shift searching for busy work. You successfully managed to avoid Emily’s questions, dodging her inquiries with the decision to help a customer or grab a box from the storeroom, and by the time the clock struck eight, she’d forgotten all about your encounter with Calum.
As she was the first to arrive, she left before you did. It was your job to close out the register and ensure that everything was locked before you left for the night. You painstakingly ran through your list of chores, making sure that each one was completed and checked off, before you locked the shop and ventured through the empty mall. You exited through a side door, an employee entrance that remained open until the security guard managed to make his rounds and ensure that each of the shops was closed, and you ventured around the side of the mall to the parking lot that you figured your brother would be waiting in.
Again, there was no sign of the red Firebird but the blue Camaro was parked directly under a streetlight. Calum leaned against the hood, boot clad feet crossed and arms folded over his chest, as he stared at the entrance you’d gone into hours earlier. You figured that Jason had found a date for the evening and convinced Calum to pick you up. You weren’t sure how much it took to bribe him into doing this but you were certain that Jason was going to owe him for a lifetime as you crossed the parking lot to reach Calum’s car.
He didn’t notice you at first, not until you settles against the hood beside him, and he jumped in surprise when you greeted him. “Jason busy?” you asked, not bothering to wait for his greeting in return.
“He found a date,” Calum confirmed, rolling his eyes as he did so. He’d always found Jason’s womanizing to be a bit distasteful. There was nothing wrong with having fun and enjoying yourself, however, your brother sometimes took it to a new extreme and it never sat quite right with him. Ultimately, though, Calum knew that he was in no position to criticize someone’s life choices so he never said anything. The only person he’d ever mentioned the distaste to was you and that was only because you mentioned it first.
“Sorry you’re stuck with chauffeur duty,” you sighed as you met his eyes for the second time that day. “Do you know anything about my car? We dropped it off last week.”
“Should be done by the end of this week,” he assured you as he lit himself a cigarette and took a drag. “Mike’s working on it.”
“That’s good,” you hummed, anything to keep the tense silence from enveloping you both, “I’m tired of bumming rides and relying on my idiot brother.”
Calum smiled at this, the first genuine smile you’d seen from him since his departure, and shook his head. “Come on,” he breathed, smoke swirling into the air as he gestured for you to get into the car, “it’s cold.”
It wasn’t that cold, not really, but you imagined that he was trying his best to keep the time spent together to a minimum. So, instead of arguing with him, you climbed into the passenger seat and pressed yourself to the door to keep from sitting too close. If Calum noticed (he did), he didn’t say anything. Instead, he turned the radio down enough to hear the music while retaining the possibility to speak to one another. Neither of you said anything as he pulled out of the parking lot but you noticed that he was driving much slower than you’d ever seen him go. Part of you determined that you shouldn’t ask about it, that whatever his reasons, you didn’t want to know. The bigger part, though, the less rational part that always seemed to win out, told you that you should ask him.
Calum had never been a careful driver, had never even bothered to turn down his radio, and the sudden switch in behavior threw you off.
Instead of outright asking him what he was doing, you asked, “Are you alright?” When he raised his eyebrows in confusion at your question, you shrugged. “You’re going slow, is all. You never drive slow.”
Calum didn’t answer right away. Instead, he kept his eyes on the road ahead of him and did his best to ignore the speedometer and your presence. He hadn’t realized it, it wasn’t his intention, but with you alone in the front seat of his car, he subconsciously lowered his speed. He also hadn’t realized that he’d turned down the music to be able to speak with you even though he had realized he chose your favorite mixtape to listen to.
As Fleetwood Mac filled the car and you stared at him expectantly, Calum nodded. “It’s cold,” he answered and had it actually been cold, you would’ve bought it. He’d skidded on a patch of black ice his first winter in Hawkins and Jason told your parents that the only time he’d ever been cautious was around winter roads. However, it was nowhere near cold enough for the roads to ice and you wanted to point that out but you weren’t sure how well it would go over.
The two of you lapsed into an uncomfortable silence, Calum tapping his fingers against the steering wheel to the beat of the song and you staring out into the night. Something had changed in the air between the two of you. It was no longer as easy as it was over the summer. Instead, your words were clipped and sentences short. Your interactions were those of strangers and it hurt your heart.
You considered the fact that you’d already lost Calum as a friend, considered the fact that he no longer seemed to want anything to do with you, and you decided that nothing worse could come of asking him for closure. Though you didn’t really want to know why he was so distant now, you felt that you deserve an answer. So, you rephrased your question and asked, “Is everything alright with us?”
Calum figured this was coming. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to avoid you for much longer without you seeking an answer, that was just the kind of person that you’d always been, and he’d readily agreed to pick you up when your brother asked just so you could get the conversation over with. He still wasn’t sure what he was going to say to you, he still wasn’t sure exactly what he wanted from you, but he shrugged as an answer knowing that you wouldn’t like that at all.
You tried to keep your voice steady as you shifted in your seat to face him and huffed his name. “We spent the entire summer together,” you reminded him, your voice quieter than you wanted it to be. “We had something,” you sighed, “or, at least, I thought we did. And now it’s like we’re strangers again. You left me those mixtapes and I thought that meant something.”
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t read into things,” Calum shrugged, struggling to keep his tone neutral as he kept his eyes on the road. “We just spent time together because we were bored. We don’t actually have anything in common that keeps us together.”
“That’s bullshit!” you exclaimed with a frown. “You said it yourself, we’re more alike than we are dissimilar. We go well together, Cal. We worked.”
“We might’ve worked for the summer but that was all it was ever going to be,” he stated as he slowed to a stop at the first stop sign leading toward your home. “I’m sorry that wasn’t clear.”
You were silent for a moment, weighing your options, before you demanded, “Stop the car.”
Calum glanced over at you, eyebrows furrowed and frown prominent on his lips, as he shook his head. “You’re not walking. We’re almost there.”
“Who said anything about walking?” you asked as you crossed your arms over your chest. “We need to talk. Stop the car.” Calum rolled his eyes, used to your dramatics, but did as you requested and pulls the car off onto a dusty side road that barely saw any traffic. He put the car in park and turned to face you as he waited for you to continue speaking. “Tell me that this summer was bullshit, tell me that it meant nothing and that you never meant for it to be more than some flirty friendship and I’ll drop it. I’ll believe you and let it go. But look me in the eye while you do it.”
Calum cursed under his breath and that’s how you knew that you’d gotten him. He’d never been able to lie directly to you, not about his feelings, and he confessed that once after he had too much to drink at a party. He’d told you that he’d spill the secrets of the universe to you so long as you looked at him with those eyes and you’d never used it against him. However, you felt that the situation called for it.
So you waited, arms folded over your chest and eyebrows raised, for Calum to speak. You waited for him to tell you that it was bullshit, that he didn’t feel anything for you, but the words never came. When you relaxed your posture, softened your stance and lowered your brows, Calum shook his head to stop you from pleading with him. “You deserve better than me,” he told you, finally answering the question of why he’d been avoiding you. “You deserve the world and I can’t give it to you. You deserve someone who knows what they’re doing with their life, not some loser who has half a plan and a pipe dream. You’ve got a big future. You’re going to change the world someday and I don’t want to hold you back.”
You were surprised to hear Calum be so negative about himself. While he wasn’t the definition of positivity, he had never been outright self-deprecating. So to hear him think that he wasn’t worthy of you or your affection broke your heart. It hurt to know that the reason he’d pushed you away was because he’d built you up onto a pedestal in his mind, one that you most certainly were not worthy of, and you were at a loss for how to respond.
You knew that you needed to say something, knew that you needed to tell him just how wrong you thought he was, so you spoke from your heart. You didn’t weigh your words carefully, you didn’t hesitate in rambling. You simply began speaking and hoped that it would be enough.
“You wouldn’t hold me back, Cal,” you assured him, your voice stronger than he’d ever heard it. “You are the one person who has always believed in me. No one has ever said that, no one has ever told me that I’d change the world, and you sound so sure of yourself that it makes me want to believe it, too. You don’t push me to be anything other than myself. You don’t measure me in comparison to my brother. You allow me to be me and I enjoy being myself around you. I’m comfortable with you. You make me happy and that’s the only thing that should matter.”
Though Calum’s heart was soaring at your words, he knew that he had to be at least somewhat realistic. He knew that he had to be the one to ground the conversation in reality so he refuted your claim. “But it isn’t,” he sighed, smiling sadly at you. “Happiness isn’t the only thing that matters. And our futures are going to be very different. You’re moving to New York, I’m going to California. We’ll be split up in a few months, anyway, and then we won’t even have our happiness.”
“I’m actually not,” you informed him quietly, dropping your head to stare at your fingernails. “I’ve been looking at schools and the one in New York doesn’t really offer what I want,” you shrugged, not daring to look up at him. “So, I started looking in California.”
“No,” Calum refused immediately, shaking his head vehemently. “You can’t base that decision on me. Your parents, your brother, everyone in town knows that New York is your dream. You can’t change your mind for me.”
“I didn’t,” you assured him quickly. “New York was my dream but that changed before I even met you. I’ve just felt like I needed a plan for so long that I never told anyone I wasn’t sure. Everyone expected me to have everything together, to have a decision that was set in stone, so I pretended like I did. But I’ve been looking at schools around the country since before we met. I looked at a few in the south, a few here in the state, but there’s one in California that’s seemed like the best option for a while now. It’s got everything I want.”
To say that he was surprised would be an understatement. Despite spending the summer together, you never once mentioned your desire to go elsewhere. You never once mentioned you potential move to California. However, as he thought back, Calum realized that you paid far more attention than seemed normal whenever he talked about California. You asked more questions than anyone else and seemed to truly take his words to heart. And now that you’d taken away his strongest argument, Calum could see the future that he hadn’t dared dream about materialize before his very eyes.
He could see you lying on a beach, sunglasses covering your eyes and a book open on your chest, as the two of you spent your afternoons together. He could see the two of you living together, him working in a garage and you going to class and working weekends at a cafe to pay the rent. He could see long nights, listening to the ocean and watching the tide roll in. He could see warm summers and mild winters, far away from the ice and snow of Hawkins.
He could see love and that terrified him.
When he didn’t respond, you continued speaking. “If you really don’t feel anything for me, that’s fine,” you assured him, your voice going quiet once more, “but I know what I want, Calum. I want you and I really don’t care what those nosy ladies in town have to say about it. You make me happy and even though that might not be all that matters in the future, it’s enough for a beginning, isn’t it?”
Calum hated it when you turned your optimism into reason because he really couldn’t argue with something that sounded so sweet. He couldn’t argue with your hope, with your desire to be happy together, so he didn’t even try. Instead, he leaned across the dash and pressed his lips to yours. His hand cupped your cheek, warm against your cool skin, and he smiled against your lips when you leaned into his touch. His kiss was feather light, a barely there pressure meant to convey his feelings for you, and it sent your heart soaring as your eyes fluttered shut. Calum took that as a positive sign and shifted in his seat to deepen the kiss.
The angle at which you were both sitting was uncomfortable. The gear shift was digging into Calum’s stomach, the hand pressed against your seat hurt from holding up his weight and he was contorted into an unusual sitting position that strained his back, however, he wouldn’t trade the moment for anything in the world. The feeling of his lips on yours, the feeling of your fingers carding through his hair and your eyelashes fluttering against his cheek whenever he nipped at your bottom lip, was enough to keep him from complaining. He’d endure the discomfort forever if necessary, just so long as he could keep kissing you.
You were sure that the windows had fogged and that the mixtape was going to end soon but that thought didn’t deter either of you. What felt like hours passed in a haze, you and Calum locked in a searing kiss that set your soul on fire, and the moments that you pulled away to breathe were punctuated with lips pressed against your neck or the exposed skin of your collarbone. Kissing Calum was unlike anything you’d ever experienced and you never waned to leave the moment.
Calum was the first to pull away, his lips swollen and cherry red. You wanted nothing more than to cross the gap he’d created and return your lips to his, however, he breathed a quiet sigh of contentment and glanced at his watch. “It’s getting late,” he reminded you, his voice quiet in the silence of the car, “I should get you home.”
“Or you could get me in the backseat,” you offered with a slight shrug of your shoulders. You knew that your parents wouldn’t be home and even if they were, they wouldn’t notice your absence or would chalk it up to you staying over at a friend’s to study or getting dinner with Emily. They wouldn’t be concerned and they certainly wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that you’re in Calum’s backseat.
Calum seemed to have the same thought that you do, his realization just coming a little slower. However, when he decided that you were right, that your parents wouldn’t notice and that you wouldn’t get in trouble, he contemplated your offer. “We don’t have to,” he assured you, reaching out to brush the apples of your cheeks with his thumbs. “I’m not just trying to get in your pants.”
“I know that,” you reassured him, “if I thought that you were, I’d have made you take me home by now. I want to do this, Calum. I want you.”
He swallowed at your words, heart thundering in his chest as he felt his body begin to overheat. He contemplated for a moment, considered it, before he shrugged off his jacket and nodded. “Get in the back,” he breathed, biting his lip as he watched you shrug off your own jacket before you crawled over the console to settle onto the backseat. He stared at you for a moment, admiring your kiss swollen lips and the content smile that quirked them, before he followed your lead and climbed into the back to join you.
As he settled over you, his body pressed close to yours in the tight confines of his backseat, Calum couldn’t believe he was in this position. He’d thought about it so many times, thought about you beneath him and moaning his name, and it was hard to believe that it was finally happening. You didn’t give him long to dwell, though, as you reached up and tangled your fingers in his hair. He gave in to you easily, allowed you to pull him in for another searing kiss, as his own hands slipped beneath the hem of your top. He’d always loved seeing you in blue, always thought it suited you the most, and he didn’t hesitate to tell you so as his hands brushed your sides.
“You’re so beautiful,” he breathed, his voice reverential as he stared down at you. The awe was clear on his face, his eyes alight with such an intense happiness that it made you want to look away. Instead of responding, you pulled him back in for another kiss as your hands moved from his hair to the buttons of his shirt.
Calum allowed you to unbutton the buttons and tug at the material for a moment, indicating your desire to take it off, before he pulled away and shrugged his arms out of the top. As he did so, you leaned up as best as you could and pulled your own top over your head. He watched, swallowing thickly, as you pulled your own top over your head and tossed it into the front seat. Both of you stared, unashamed. You took in the smooth expanse of Calum’s chest, the tan skin and the few tattoos he kept hidden beneath his clothes, as his eyes roamed your exposed stomach and chest. He could tell that you hadn’t meant for this to happen, the bra you were wearing was one that he recognized as the least fashionable in your wardrobe, but he found it endearing. He liked that he got to see you as you were rather than as a caricature of yourself. But before he could repeat himself, he heard you whisper, “You’re so beautiful, Calum.”
He could tell by the way that you were looking at him that you meant every word. He could tell that you found him just as beautiful as he found you and he felt like his heart was going to burst from happiness as you reached out and brushed your fingers across his heated skin. He allowed you time to explore, gave you the freedom you needed to enjoy the moment, and watched the steady rise and fall of your chest as you traced your name against his skin. When your fingers returned to his hair, tugging lightly at the curls, he returned his lips to yours. His own hands found your chest with your guidance, his hands cupping your breasts through your bra and gently squeezing. His touch was lighter than you imagined it would be, more careful, and it made you happy to know just how much he really cared.
Calum took his time to explore your body, his hands leaving a trail of fire in their wake as he slipped them beneath your body to unclasp your bra. His lips remained on your skin, pressed against your neck or trailing over your chest, as your hands raked down the expanse of his stomach to unbuckle his belt. As his lips lavished attention on your breasts, pebbling each nipple and grinning when you shivered as he blew cool air on them, his hands worked to unbutton your jeans. His plan of slipping a hand into your pants didn’t quite work the way he imagined it would and he frowned at the tight jeans he thought he loved.
“You couldn’t have worn a skirt today?” he questioned, his tone teasing as he helped you shift to tug off your jeans.
“Didn’t know I’d be in this situation or I would’ve worn something else entirely,” you laughed, voice breathless as you press a hand to his chest to stop him from slotting back between your legs. “Yours, too,” you informed him, nodding toward his jeans. When he grinned at you, you rolled your eyes and watch as he shimmied out of them as best as he could.
“This isn’t what I imagined for our first time,” he informed you as he parted your thighs and brushed his fingers across the waistband of your panties. “I imagined it would be nicer, with candles or something,” he continued as you waited, holding your breath, for him to touch you. He decided to have mercy on you, to save the teasing for later, and nudged the fabric to the side. His fingers brushed your folds, delicate and careful as they gathered your arousal, and he bit back a groan at the feeling. You were so wet, just for him, and he was eager to please you. He wanted to make you cum, wanted to make you see stars and cry out his name, so he didn’t tease for long.
He brushed your clit, his thumb barely nudging the sensitive nub, and he breathed out at your reaction. You were so sensitive for him that he didn’t know how long this was going to last. However, he liked to imagine that you’d be more than willing to go for another round so long as he made the first worthwhile.
He knew that you weren’t a virgin, knew that you lost it to that dickhead Harrington somewhere around your seventeenth birthday, but he also knew that that was the only sexual experience you’d had. Calum was careful to move slowly and deliberately as he slipped a finger into your entrance. He didn’t want to hurt you, didn’t want to give you any reason to change your mind about him, so he watched your face closely for any signs of discomfort. Your eyes fluttered shut and your mouth dropped open in a quiet sigh as he slowly worked you open, a second finger joining the first as he began to rub your clit with his thumb. As you writhed beneath him, focusing solely on the feeling of his fingers inside of you, Calum reached for a condom that he kept in the console.
You were so tight around his fingers, clenching around him every time he hits that certain spot, and he knew that neither of you would last long. So when you grabbed his hand to still it, he took that to mean that you wanted to cum with him inside of you.
You watched in wide-eyed anticipation as Calum rolled the condom onto his length and returned to his position between your thighs. He brushed the tip along your folds, gathering your wetness onto the latex, before he glanced at your face once more. “Are you sure about this?” he asked, the tip of his cock aligned with your entrance. “We can still stop,” he assured you.
In reply, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him down, your lips brushing his as you whispered, “I’m so sure.” Calum nodded, his eyes focused on yours as he sank into you.
You were tighter than he imagined you’d be, snug and warm around his cock. As he fully seated himself inside you, Calum had to pause to take a deep breath and collect himself. He already felt as if he were on the verge of cumming, already felt spent, and he laughed as he told you, “You feel so good, baby.”
“You feel good, too,” you assured him, your voice breathless and sounding just as fucked as he felt. You’d imagined this before, imagined him taking you in the backseat of his car and giving you the mind-blowing orgasm you’d always dreamt of, and the reality of the situation seemed to be better than anything you could’ve ever dreamt.
Calum remained still for a moment before he asked, “Can I move?” When you nodded, he gave an experimental thrust, both of you moaning at the sensation, before he set his pace. You weren’t sure if it was just because it was Calum and you’d been anticipating this moment for nearly a year or if he genuinely knew what he was doing, but Calum’s pace was perfect. He didn’t set a blistering pace that had you clinging to the seat and waiting for it to be over, nor did he drag out the process so long that you got bored. Instead, he alternated the two and kept you on your toes. He kept you guessing, kept you waiting for the next movement, and it thrilled you as he drove you closer and closer to the edge.
He could feel you clenching around him, could feel you getting tighter and tighter with each thrust, and it pushed him harder as he desperately wanted to make you feel good. He wanted to push you over the edge, wanted to make you see stars and need a moment to catch your breath, and that’s exactly what he did as his thumb found your clit once more. He brushed the sensitive nub, rubbing tight circles in an effort to bring you over the edge, and when you came with a cry of his name, he swore he’d never felt more accomplished.
Your orgasm triggered his own as you clenched around him like a vice and Calum buried his face in the crook of your neck as he stilled inside of you.
The pair of you remained like that for a moment, each of you attempting to catch your breath, before Calum pulled out and shook his head. “Fuck,” he breathed, head still swimming as he helped you gather your clothes and tug them back on haphazardly. He seemed to be at a loss for words and could only repeat, “Fuck,” as he dressed himself.
You laughed at that, laughed at how flustered he seemed, and pulled him into another quick kiss before you sat up and smiled at him. “Yeah,” you nodded, a bright grin on your lips and the marks on your neck on proud display, “fuck.”
“Language,” Calum teased, although he liked hearing dirty words leave such a pretty mouth. “Wouldn’t want anyone to think I’ve corrupted you.”
“We’re well past that,” you returned, just as playfully, as you reached out for his hand. “You’re a bad influence, Calum Hood. Smoking, drinking, driving too fast, and listening to all that heavy metal,” you hummed, your voice carrying a playful lilt that Calum loved to hear, “but I think I can be just as bad an influence as you if I want to.”
“Yeah?” he asked, eyebrow raised, “How is that?”
“Well, I just convinced you to fuck me in the backseat of your car,” you hummed, reaching out to brush your fingers across his chest, “but the night is still young. I’m sure I can be an even worse influence if you take me to your place.”
Calum stared at you, a smirk on his lips and a laugh of disbelief leaving him. Gone was the golden girl and in her place was a goddess, capable of destroying his life and putting the pieces back together even stronger than they were before. He knew that there was still a conversation to be had because his fears still lingered in the back of his mind. However, Calum was convinced that you were on to something. The happiness that he’d experienced with you, the pure joy that he felt whenever you spent time together and the love that he knew you both hold for one another, was enough for now. The future had yet to be determined. It loomed in the distance, scary and uncertain, but Calum believed that he could do just about anything just so long as you were by his side.

Author’s Note: I want to do an actual, actual Stranger Things AU. Like, I would love to take this and either keep going with it (reader teaming up with Steve and Robin to fight the Russians and Cal getting jealous because she and Harrington were a thing once?). Also, I love muscle cars. And this is set in the 80s, in case anyone was wondering/hasn’t seen Stranger Things. Again,  you may have seen this but I wrote it and posted it elsewhere because I wanted to try something new. Anyway, enjoy.

Team Squad Fun Day
For my best friend @anitoonzforever hope you love the comission story I made you ^^
Gary was just looking at some news stuff on the computer. It was one of those rare times nothing in space is trying to kill them. He was actually graceful that for once him and his crew got a day off. Gary kept on looking on the computer until he saw a planet called Donetua and saw that the planet is opening  fair and it caused Gary to basically yell in excitement.”
Gary - “Oh my god!! No way!!”
All of that yelling causes everybody to come to the room where Gary is at. They saw him basically jumping up and down excited like a little kid.
Little Cato - “What is it, Thunder Bandit?”
Gary - *excited* “There's a fair on this planet!”
 Trina - *confused*  “A fair?”
 Jemima - *confused* “What's that?”
Gary - *surprised* “You don't know what a fair is?”
Jemima - “Uncle Gary, up until I escaped, I never left the orphanage.”
Trina - “I never to been to one either.”
 Little Cato - “Me neither.”
 Avocato - “Same.”
Ash - “Well me and Fox did once. At least I think it was a fair.”
Fox - “Yeah. We only were there to help Da-Clarence steal stuff. Do fairs involve rocket ships and death lasers?”
 Gary - “Uhh no.”
Ash - “Then no. We have never been to a fair.”
Gary “What?! You guys gotta be kidding me!”
Jemima - “What do you mean, Uncle Gary?”
Gary - “The fair is like one of the best places to be! It's like if a piece of heaven fell on earth and grew to show people its super awesome goodness.”
Little Cato - “What do you usually do there?”
Gary: *chuckles* “Oh where do I begin, Spider Cat? There is fun stuff like the athlete’s games, the Ferris wheel, roller coaster, bumper cars, prizes.”
KVN - “Oh!! We can ride them together! Because Gary and I are best friends!”
Gary - *push KVN away* “Get away from me you robotic demon devil!”
Trina - “What about the food?”
Gary - “The food is amazing there!”
Jemima - “What do they have?”
Gary - “Oh tons of great stuff! They got cotton candy, pizza, French fries, and many other stuffs!”
 Trina - “Sound good!”
Little Cato - “Yeah. Makes me kind of hungry.”
Jemima - *excited* “I wanna see it!”
 Fox - *excited* “Me too!!”
Trina - “Why don’t  we go now? I mean there aren’t any evil guys to try and destroy us all.”
Avocato - “That’s true. Who knows this could be a good day off?”
Gary - “Exactly! This is like the golden ticket! A once in a lifetime trip to happy memory land!”
 Mooncake - “Chookity pok!”
HUE - “I agree with Mooncake and Gary. This could sound fun. And with this new god like body, I can probably win lots of prizes.”
Gary - “Then it’s settled. AVA, take us to Donetua!”
AVA - “You got it Gary.”
 ()()()()()()()()()()()
The Crimson Light speed up and make it to the fair. Gary is the first one to step out. His eyes widen in amazement:
Gary - *excited* “Come on, guys! Let's go!”
Avocato - *chuckles* “ Slow down bud! Wait for us!”
Jemima holds her father's hand. While she was amaze on the things the fair has, she couldn’t help but feel nervous. She has never seen so many people since her old home at the orphanage.
Jemima - *nervous* “You think it would be safe Daddy?”
Avocato - *comforting* “I'm sure it is, baby. Gary wouldn't suggest it if it weren’t.”
Trina - *look around* “It does look colorful.”
 Jemima - “And bright.”
Little Cato - “There is a lot of people.”
Avocato - “A ton of people so you guys better stay close to me, okay?”
 Jemima - “Okay Daddy.”
 Trina - “Sure thing.”
Little Cato - “You got it!”
The Team Squad was walking around the fair. While they were close together, they saw Gary basically looking around and running. It was like watching a little kid who is excited to see Santa at the Mall.
Jemima - “Have you been to a fair before, Uncle Gary?”
Gary - *nodding* “Yep. I loved them as a kid. My dad would take me here.”
Avocato - “So what are we doing first?”
Gary - “We can take baby steps. Since it all yours for the first time while I’m the ride master.”
Jemima was looking around the fair. She keeps seeing rides like roller coasters, catapults, spinning rides and they all look too scary for her. Then Jemima sees a ride that looks interesting and not scary.
Jemima - “What's that, Uncle Gary?”
Gary - Oh that's the merry go round!
Jemima: There's horses on it! Can we go on its Daddy?
 Avocato - *smiles* “Sure honey!”
Little Cato - “I'll ride with you, sis.”
Trina - “Me too! It looks fun.”
Ash & Fox - “Wait for us!”
 Fox - “I love horsy!”
They head to the ride and Jemima & her brother pick out a beautiful horse. The horse was white with a gold mane design. Trina was on a black and white horse; Ash was on a pink and purple horse. Fox was on a brown horse with white spots on it. Fox got it and was able to sit on it despite his size and he was really excited. Jemima had a little trouble getting on her horse, but Little Cato lift her up to help her.
Little Cato: *holds his sister up* “Up you go.”
Jemima - Thank you big bro!
Little Cato smiles and climbs up to sit with his sister. At first the ride was doing anything, and they were confused. Fox was slightly bouncing in excitement and wanted the ride to go now.
Trina - *confused* “So what does this thing do?”
Gary - “It just goes around as the horses go up and down. It takes a few second to work.”
Jemima - “Are you guys coming too?”
Avocato - *shook his head no* “It's okay. We will watch.”
Gary - “Besides, we need to take pictures of you kids!”
Jemima and Little Cato smile as the ride begins to move. It surprised them at first, but then seconds later they began to enjoy it.
 Jemima - “Whoa it's moving!”
Little Cato - “Here we go!!”
The ride began to move, and Jemima began to enjoy it. She never had fun like this in a long time.
 Jemima - “Weee!!”
Little Cato - “This is fun!”
Fox - “This is the ride of my life!”
They ride as the adult’s wave to the kids and take pictures. Gary smiled because he remembered the times, he would ride the Merry Go around with his Dad. It was one of his happiest memories. Even after his Dad died and burnt down his house, Gary would often sneak into the fair and go on the merry go around to relive those memories.
Avocato: “I love seeing my baby girl and son so happy.”
Gary - “Yeah it's so sweet.”
Avocato - “This is the first time I've done anything like this. I mean the closest thing Little Cato and I did together was training. Sometimes I wish I can go back in time and act like a real father to him.”
Gary - “Hey you are a real father to him. You took care of him and love him. Even died for him. That’s like ultimate dad love. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t do these kinds of things with him.”
 Avocato - *smiles* “Thanks man.”
The kids have fun until the ride stops and they get off.
Avocato - “Did you like that ride, sweetie?”
Jemima - *happy* “Yeah! I like it a lot!”
Little Cato - “It was pretty cool!! What other rides can we do next?”
Trina - “Yeah! I got this awesome rush in my veins! It’s hard to ignore awesome rushes in veins.”
Gary - “Well there are roller coasters.”
 Ash - “What are those?”
Gary - A ride that goes up, down, and all around. It’s like a loop de loop of extreme movement.”
 Jemima - *scared* “Sounds scary.”
 Gary - “It's actually fun!”
Avocato - *concerned* “Uh Gary? I think she might be too young for that kind of ride.”
Gary - “Oh yeah good point. There's the Ferris wheel and that’s also one of my favorite rides.”
 Jemima - “What’s that?
Gary - “It's like a big wheel that take you up and down.”
Jemima - *nervously* “Is it safe?”
Gary - “Oh totally. I rode on it all the time.”
Avocato - “How about I go with you and Uncle Gary on the Ferris wheel while your brother goes with the others on the roller coaster?”
 Jemima - *happy* “Okay!”
Little Cato - “Have fun Jemmy!!”
Jemima - “Thanks! You are too.”
The kids head to the roller coaster while Avocato and Gary  take Jemima to the Ferris wheel.
 Avocato - You ready baby?
 Jemima: *nods* Uh-huh!
Gary - “Trust me you will love it. It’s also one of my favorite rides.”
Avocato - “Is every ride your favorite ride?”
Gary - “Not all of them. The catapult tends me freak me out sometimes.”
They walk up to the Ferris wheel. It was big with beautiful light colors. Some people where on them and there were a few empty ones. Gary, Avocato and Jemima got on a red one and sat down waiting for the ride to be ready.
Avocato - “If you get scared you can hold my hand.”
 Jemima - “Okay Daddy.”
Gary - “Don't worry. You got this Jemima, you’re a Team Squad: they can always face new challenges.”
Jemima - *smiles* “Okay I'm ready!”
The Ferris wheel moved a little meaning it was starting to get ready. Then the Ferris wheel slowly began to go up.
 Avocato - “Here we go!”
Jemima feels excited at first but as the ride went higher, she started to feel nervous. She never was this high up since she was escaping the orphanage with Emma and the others.
Jemima - *nervous* “Oh we are really high…”
Avocato - “It's okay, sweetie. You can hold my hand.”
Jemima holds her daddy's hand tight as the go up to the top and it stops.
 Jemima - “Hey it stops!”
Gary - “It's okay sweetie. It's normal for this ride.”
Jemima - *scared* “Oh...okay that fine.”
Gary - “Are you okay, honey?”
Jemima - “I never been up this high...Expect the day I escape *start to get scared* It feels....so scary! *tears up* What if I fall off?!”
Avocato - *held her hands tightly* Now don't worry baby you won't fall off. I'll always protect you.”
Gary - “‘Me too. Whenever you fall down, we will always be there to help you get back up.
Jemima hugged her dad tight and buried her face at his side.
 Avocato - “We promise.”
 Jemima - “Thank you Daddy.”
Avocato - “Aww you're welcome princess.”
Jemima smiles at her father and Uncle Gary who smiled back at her. Gary then looked up in the sky. Sometimes whenever he sneaks here, he would go on the Ferris wheel just for a ride. When it stops at the top, he would always look up at the sky. When he looks up at the sky, Gary would always think of his Dad. He would remember the space stories his father would tell him and how they would pretend to have space adventures. Even though John died, Gary sometimes like to imagine that instead of John dying, he simply out there in space having lots of space adventures to protect the Earth. But he knows that this is reality and reality can sometimes be a real tearjerker. Then the Ferris wheel began to move again.
 Jemima - “It's moving!”
Avocato - “Yep. We'll be down soon, Jemima.”
Jemima - “Okay this isn't so bad!”
 Gary - “Almost there.”
Then the ride stopped, and everybody got off. Jemima actually felt happy because despite being scared for a little bit, she actually had fun on the Ferris wheel.
Jemima - That was actually fun!
Avocato: *picks her up* “You see? I told you it was safe.”
Jemima - “Thanks Daddy! Thanks Uncle Gary!”
 Gary - “Anytime cupcake.”
Avocato - “I wonder how the others ride were.”
Then they saw Little Cato and the others looked dazed. Their hair looked a bit messy, and they were wearing t-shirts. At first, they were quiet which slightly worried Avocato, Gary and Jemima. But then Ash began to shout:
Ash - “That was the best ride ever!!!! The loops, the speed, it was amazing!!”
Fox - “I feel like a part of me died, and another part of me have just been born!”
Little Cato - “I didn't even care that I puke!”
 Trina - “Neither did it!”
Jemima - *a bit concerned* “Are you guys okay?”
Little Cato - *excited* “Are you kidding? We had a blast! Dad the ride was so awesome!!
 Avocato - “I'm glad son!”
Trina - “And how was y’all ride?”
Jemima - *happy*  “It was fun actually! Daddy, Uncle Gary, and I went really high and then really low and high again. It was so fun!”
 Little Cato - “That’s great!”
Gary - *stomach growls* “Anyone hungry!
 Jemima - “I am!”
Trina - “Yeah I can grab something to eat.”
 Fox - “Yeah I'm starved!”
Gary - “Well we can fix that! Come I'll take you to the snack place.”
 ()()()()()()()()()
Little Cato - “What do they usually serve here, Gary?”
Gary - “Stuff like cotton candy, hot dogs, popcorn, French friends, big pretzel, etc.”
Jemima - “I want some cotton candy!”
 Ash - “Me too!”
Gary - “Okay! After snacks we get to win prizes!”
 Jemima - “Oh yay!!”
Avocato - “This is actually a good plan Gary.”
 Gary - “Thanks buddy.”
Then they made it to the snack bar. Luckily for them it wasn’t full since there weren’t many people. Jemima’s eyes widen in amazement. She never seen so many snacks that look really tasty. Jemima couldn’t wait to taste them.
Jemima - *amazed* “Wow! Look at all the snacks!”
Gary - “Yep! Get whatever you want, kiddos! The treats on me!”
 Trina - “Oh that's awesome!”
 Jemima: Thanks uncle Gary!
They went to the stand. The others began to look around on what snacks they wanted. Jemima had a little trouble seeing, but Avocato picks her up so she can see better.
 Jemima - *smiles* “Thanks daddy.”
Avocato - “No problem baby. What snack do you want Jemima?”
Jemima - *thinking* “Hmmm...I wanna try cotton candy!”
Avocato: *chuckles* “You got it, baby.”
Little Cato - “I think I'll try a corn dog.”
Trina - “I'll get some popcorn.”
Fox - “There's some cheese fries with my name on it!”
Ash - “Ooh I wanna try the hot dogs!”
Avocato: *smiles* “Alright kids, one at a time.”
They all order the snacks. Then they went to a table to relax and enjoy eating their snacks. Jemima was amaze on how soft and pink her cotton candy food was. It even smelled really good and sweet. After a minute admiring her food, Jemima began to take a bite out of her snack.
Jemima - *delightful* “Wow! This is super yummy!”
Little Cato - *eating his food* “Yeah and this is good too! Hey sis, wanna trade bites?”
 Jemima - “Okay!”
Jemima takes a bite of Little Cato’s corndog while he takes a bite of her cotton candy. Jemima eyes widen on the taste of the corn dog. Even Little Cato’s eyes widen on the sweet taste of the cotton candy:
Jemima - “Wow this is tasty!”
Little Cato - “So is this cotton candy!”
Trina - “I wonder what snack Gary got?”
Gary comes back with another dish in his hand. He sat down in his seat and when he opened the over, it was some funnel cake.
Gary - “Thought I'd get some funnel cake for you guys to share. It been one of my favorite cakes.”
Trina - “Ooh it looks good!”
They all take some bites. Jemima’s eyes widen like if she tasted the most wonderful food in the world.
Jemima - *amazed* “This is so good!”
Fox - *amazed* “This is like heaven inside of my mouth!”
Little Cato - “Yeah! I never tasted anything like it!”
Gary - “You never had sweets?”
Little Cato - “Oh I have. Just not funnel cake. Actually...I rarely had any sweets.”
Avocato - “Yeah I guess I wasn't much of a cake person. Anything sweet in general.”
Jemima - *confused* “Why not Daddy?”
Avocato - “I don't know. Maybe I never ate a lot of sweets. I don’t really have a huge, sweet tooth.”
Jemima - “To be honest, me neither.”
Gary - “They never gave you candy?”
Jemima - “Actually no. "Mom" didn't want us to spoil our meals and never gave us any.”
Trina - *sympathy* “Aw man that's tough.”
Jemima - “Actually not really. They had home cook  food meals at the orphanage. They were tasty though!”
Gary -  “Well at least they fed you kids.”
Jemima - “Yeah and we did have lots of  fun. I played with my friends all the time. *sighs* I just hope they're okay.”
Little Cato - *concerned* “Aw don't worry I'm sure they are okay. I mean at least you guys escape.”
Jemima - “Yeah. But I still miss them. In fact, you guys kinda remind me of my friends.”
 Gary - “We do?”
Jemima - Yeah. Gary remind me of my big sister Emma.”
Ash - “You have a sister?”
Jemima - “Well back at the orphanage, we may not be related but we were all siblings to each other. Emma was like a big sister to me...Little Cato and Daddy remind me of Ray.
 Avocato -*touched* “Aww really?”
Jemima - “Yes. You both care about me and help me when I'm scared. He the one who helped me escape.
Avocato - *smiles* “Sound like a good brother.”
Jemima - “He was…*smiles* But I still have a great brother.”
Little Cato - *smiles* “And who's that?”
Jemima - “You silly!” *hugs him*
Little Cato - “Well I am an awesome brother. Before I met you, I never had any brothers or sisters.”
 Jemima - “Really?”
Little Cato - “Yeah I was an only child.”
 Ash- “I didn't know that.”
 Trina - “So was I.”
 Gary - “Yeah me too.”
 Fox - “Same.”
Ash - “I did have a sister once.”
Jemima - “What happened to her?”
Ash looks down in sadness. Jemima knows that when somebody look down in sadness and have a sad face, that means they lost them. She knows because she saw Emma and Ray had that look before when Norman was shipped away.
Jemima - *feeling bad* “Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to say anything!”
Ash - *comforting* “It's okay you didn't know.”
Gary noticed how everybody looked a bit sad when Ash mentioned her sister. Not wanting this to be the depressing fun fair, Gary stood up and said:
Gary - “Hey I know what would cheer us up.”
He pointed to games where you can win prizes. It was a few feet away from them. The first game was a laser gun game where you have to shoot the moving target.
Jemima - “How do we play, Uncle Gary?”
Gary - “Simple, you need to shoot the target to get a prize.”
 Jemima - *sad* “But I can't shoot.”
Little Cato: *cracks his knuckles* “You let your big brother take care of that, Jemmy.”
Jemima - “You can do it?”
Little Cato - *cocky* “Hey, I've had years of practice.
Avocato - *encouraging* “You can do it son!”
Little Cato plays the game, and it was a bit difficult as first. But he didn’t give up because he wanted to win for his sister. Little Cato remembers the lessons his father taught him about focusing on the target and not let the frustration get the better of him. Then in no time, he wins.
Jemima - *happy* “Yay!!! He did it!!
Gary - *cheering* “Way to go, Spider Cat!”
 Little Cato - “Thank you!”
Alien - *bored* “Okay pick a prize you want.”
Jemima looks over the prizes. They had some prizes like basketballs, laser guns, but some really weird ones like eyeball in jars, and weird screaming small aliens in cages. These prizes aren’t very fitting for Jemima. But she did a cute pink teddy bear with a pink bow.
Jemima - *happy* “That pink teddy!”
Gary - “Okay! Can we have that pink teddy please?”
Alien - *bored* “You got it.”
He hands the teddy to Jemima. Jemima looked so happy and gave it a big hug.
Jemima - *ecstatic* “Thanks! *hugs Little Cato* Oh thank your big brother!”
Little Cato - “No problem Jemima!”
 Ash - “My turn next!”
 Trina -  “Let’s do a contest!”
Ash - “What kind of contest?”
Trina - “We both play this game at the same time and see who wins first!”
Ash - *smug* “Oh you're on! And this is for Little Cato too!”
 Trina - *confused* “Why?
Little Cato - *confused* “Yeah why?”
Ash - “Because I like you remember?”
 Little Cato - “Oh right.”
 Jemima: Good luck!
Trina - *smug*  “Don't worry I got this!”
They both play the game. They began to shoot the targets. Deep down Trina wanted to use her magic because she loves to win games. However, she remembers how her parents will tell to play fair and using magic in games is cheating.
 Gary - “Go girls go!”
Fox - “You can do it Ash!”
Then the game is over. It shows that Trina beat Ash by one point.
Trina - *cheering* “I won!! Yes!!!”
Ash - *dismayed* “Aw come on! You have magic!”
Trina - *defended* “Well so do you!”
Alien - “Actually all game booths have a non-magic barrier to prevent cheating.”
Trina - “Oh well...I still won!”
Alien - Alright, what will it be young lady?
Trina looked around the prizes. She didn’t really want a pink teddy bear because she not a fan of the color pink. Then she saw a snow globe that had a plant design in it.
Trina - *impressed* “Ooh I want that one!”
Then the alien gave her the snow globe. Trina smiled because she loves snow globes as long as she can remember.
Gary - “Good choice, Lady Magic!”
Little Cato - “Let us see!”
Trina show her friends her new snow globe. Everybody was amaze on how it looked.
 Jemima - “Ohh it's pretty!
Ash - “It does look pretty cool.”
Trina - “I always love snow globes. I love these things.”
Little Cato - “Are they your hobby?”
 Trina - “Yep!”
 Jemima - “So cool!!”
Avocato - “Anything else we should do Gary?”
Gary - “How about we play some more?”
Little Cato - “Is there anything else besides this one? It can get boring after a while.”
Gary - “Well There's skeeball, basketball, and shooting galleries.”
Little Cato - *amazed* “Ooh Let's do a shooting gallery!”
Jemima - “Maybe you and Daddy should have a contest too!!”
Little Cato - *smug* “Hmmm...Maybe I can take down Dad.”
Avocato -  *smirks and chuckles* “Okay yeah? I could whup you with my eyes closed!”
Little Cato - “So can I!”
 Avocato - “Alright you're on!”
Little Cato - “Ooh I'm gonna beat you so bad!”
 “Avocato: In your dreams, kiddo!”
 ()()()()()()()()
The Team Squad was now at the shooting gallery place. Luckily, it wasn’t crowded and not many people were in it. But they do practice shooting and see how many holes they can shoot in the target board. Avocato and Little Cato was getting ready.
 Jemima - “Good luck!”
Then the game started and both Avocato and Little Cato began to shoot their board target.
Trina - “You can do it Little Cato!”
 Gary -  “Come on buddy!!”
Little Cato - “Heh. Don't choke now, Dad!”
 Avocato - In your dreams!
Jemima - “Who do you think will win?”
Gary - “I say Avocato he got more experience.”
Fox - *offensive*  “Hey, younger generations always win!”
 Ash - “Yeah it's true!”
 Jemima - “Do your best!”
Then the timer beep and the game were over. Then the scoreboard shows that Little Cato and Avocato ended in a tie.
 Alien - “It's a tie!!”
Trina - *amazed* “Wow! You guys were awesome!”
Little Cato -  “Thanks! It was fun!”
Alien - “You both can pick out a prize.”
Avocato and Little Cato began to look around. They saw how the prizes had some guns. While it looked cool, they already had lots of guns. Then Little Cato spotted a music player and takes it.
Little Cato - “I really like this one.”
 Avocato - “Nice. I think I'll take...That acoustic guitar.”
 Gary - “You play guitar?”
Avocato - “I used to back when I was a teen.”
Jemima - *amazed* “That's so co daddy!
Little Cato: You never told me that?
Avocato - *shrugs* “Eh. I kinda gave up on it after I grew up.”
 Gary - “Really how come?”
Avocato - “Had too many things to focus on to do my hobby.”
Gary - “Well now you get to focus on it again.”
Jemima - “I'd love to hear you play, daddy!”
 Little Cato - “Me too!”
 Avocato - *surprised* “Oh really?”
Gary - Yeah! It would be cool.”
 Avocato - *smiles* “Well okay.”
Jemima - “Yay! It will be so cool!”
 Little Cato - “Yeah!!”
Fox - “Come on, guys! I'm gonna try the strength game!”
Ash - “Oh I know you will win that easily!”
 Fox - “Heck yeah!”
He goes to play, and he was so strong he knocked the bell off the game. His prize was a big stuffed dog.
Fox - *ecstatic* “Check it out y'all!”
 Jemima - *surprised* “That's a big doggy!”
 Ash -  “Nice job bro!”
Fox - *hugging the dog* “I love this doggy!!”
Ash - Now I need to find a game so I can get something too.”
Jemima - *How about that one?”
She points to the skeeball booth. She saw some people playing the game. They were winning tickets and getting prizes.
Ash - *amazed* “Ooh that looks fun!”
Little Cato - “Go try it!”
Ash pick up the ball and threw it and it made in the hole and a ticket came out. Then she kept playing and more tickets came out. Ash kept on playing until the timer beep and she got lost of tickets.
Ash - “Hey look! Some paper came out.”
Gary - “Those are tickets. You win more of those; you can exchange them for prizes. Now you get to pick a prize with them.”
The alien took and counted the tickets. Then he said
Alien - “Actually she has enough for 2 prizes.”
 Ash - *cheering* “Yes! Yes!”
Gary - “Alright! Okay pick your prize.”
Ash picks out an action figure for her prize. Then she saw Jemima and got an idea.
Ash - “I have one more to pick so it's your turn, Jemmy.
Jemima - “Really? I get to pick another prize?”
Ash - “Sure! Go ahead. You deserve it.”
Jemima looked around and had a little trouble deciding. She knows that she WAY too young to have a gun. Then she saw  a Pokémon plush  which was a teddiursa.
Jemima - “I like this one!”
 Ash - “Nice!”
 Jemima - “Thanks Ash”!
Ash - “No problem. I felt like you needed a prize.”
Jemima hugs Ash. Ash was a little surprised because nobody ever hugged her accept her brother and sister. But somehow, Jemima reminds her of a younger Harp and Ash hugged her back.
Jemima - “What do we do now?”
Gary - “Have more fun if y'all want! We have lots of time.”
Jemima - “Yeah! We can win more stuff!”
Fox - “And eat more snacks!”
Little Cato - “And more rides!”
Gary - “Alright! Let's do this!”
They all go have more fun and it was a blast.
Jemima got a couple more dolls, Avocato & Gary did some karaoke, & Little Cato and his friends rode more rides. For once in their life, they were having fun and not have to worry about no bad guys or anything. Then they were starting to get exhausted.
Gary - *exhausted* “Okay...How about We head home huh?”
Everyone agreed at once. Jemima had her head on her Dad’s shirt but was starting to get sleepy.
 Jemima - *sleepily* “Mmmm…”
Avocato - “I think this little one is tired the most.”
Avocato picks her up and carries her as Jemima rests her head on his shoulder. Avocato smiles because it reminds him the time Little Cato was younger and whenever he gets tired, his father would carry him.
Avocato: *pats het back* “Poor thing is all tuckered out.”
Ash - “Who can blame her after all the fun we had.”
 Little Cato “I don't. I had a blast!”
Trina - “Yeah it was really fun!”
Fox & Ash - “It was so awesome!!”
Avocato - *smiles* “It was actually.”
Trina -  “Thanks so much, Gary!
Little Cato - “Yeah! We needed this.”
Gary - *smiles* “Anytime Guys. I wanted you all to have some good memories like I did.”
Avocato - “Well you defiantly gave us a lot of good ones. I've never seen my kids so happy.”
Trina - “And I never had this much fun.”
Fox - *smiles* “Neither have we.”
Ash - “Like I'm gonna remember this moment forever!”
Little Cato - “Me too and I know Jemmy will too.”
Gary - “I think she had a great time out of all of us.”
Avocato - “Her face was lit up the whole time. She loved every minute of it.”
Gary - “Well I did want her to give a fun memory.”
Avocato - “Well you did, buddy. And I can't thank you enough for that.”
Gary - “No problem Avocato. After all we been through, I felt like we needed it.”
They  smiled at each other as they went back to the ship. Once they entered the ship, everybody went to their rooms and Avocato tucked his daughter into bed and set her new toys next to her.
 Jemima: *sleepy* “Daddy?”
 Avocato - “Yes Baby?”
Jemima - “Thanks for a great time. And tell Uncle Gary I said thanks too.”
 Avocato - *smiled* “No problem.”
Jemima smiled and did a cute yawn. Avocato gave his daughter a kiss good night and left the room.
Avocato - “Good night princess. I'm glad you had a fun time.”
Jemima smiles and fell asleep as Avocato close the door. Then before he went back to his room, he saw Gary again and said:
Avocato - “Hey man. I just wanted to thank you again. For the trip. We needed it.”
Gary - *smiles* “No problem. After we all been through with Invictus and the Lord Commander, we deserve it.”
Avocato - “Yeah we did. I just wish I did this stuff with Little Cato when he was younger...I felt like I wasted his childhood.”
Gary - “Hey don’t say that. I mean I know it wasn’t perfect but at least he still has you. I still carry that happy moments I have with my Dad to keep going. Sure, the life burrito had some burnt parts...REALLY burnt parts, there was some good stuff too. It not too late with Little Cato and it’s definitely not too late for Jemima.”
Avocato - *smiles* “Thanks man. I just want to be a good father to them. I don’t want go to back to where I didn’t spend much time with Little Cato and have him taken away from me for 3 years.”
Gary - “Hey, those 3 years are really major bumps. But you managed to past them. You still can make these memories for both him and Jemima. They love you and you love them. And I know with me and the others, we can make these memories action pack and even heartwarming combine like a sandwich.”
Avocato - “Thanks man. I know I can’t make that without you.”
Gary - “Hey man. We are back to back for life.”
They did the clasps of friendship. They vow they will always be in Little Cato and Jemima and the rest of their friend’s life and make amazing memories. Even if it really bumpy, they will get past it because they are a Team Squad.
 Hope you like it ^^

Anything But Mine - Florence’s Pregnancy Pampering
Summary: Inspired by this video, Daniel is more than excited that Florence has reached the half-way mark of her pregnancy and he takes the day off work to spoil the heck out of her.
A/N I wrote this instead of doing school work so pray for me. Also I love @randomlimelightxxx for being the only one who said I should write this. ily 🧡

Monday, March 4, 2024
Daniel was arguably at his happiest when they were expecting their third baby. He just couldn’t wait to watch his very own little human grow and be able to properly welcome them into the world and throughout the months, he only fell more in love with his wife. She was absolutely glowing and Daniel never wanted to leave her side for one second, making every single doctors appointment and taking days off work when Florence felt especially ill. The first week of March brought the halfway mark as Florence hit 20 weeks. Each milestone made Daniel over the moon happy and this one especially called for some sort of celebration.
He didn’t tell Florence that he called work to have the day off that Monday, still sliding out of bed at the crack of dawn like usual and leaving her with three soft kisses and her usual sleepy squeeze of his hand like any other weekday morning before he was turning off her alarm and rushing off down the hallway. This time, he went right into the kitchen to prepare her a nice breakfast. Daniel was no chef but he had Christian text him his French Toast recipe to follow so he tried his best, ruffling through the cupboards and getting everything together.
Penelope and Clementine woke up to the smell of breakfast and came running into the kitchen in surprise to see him still home on a Monday. He greeted his two young girls with plenty of kisses and sat them at their little wooden table by the window with a plate of cut up fruit to share while he worked.
Daniel had the most relaxing day planned for Florence which started with Jack taking the girls for the day. He was surprised Jack even offered to show up at 7am but it was his day off and he loved the two like his own little nieces so he didn’t complain. Jack showed up still in his pyjamas and he still nearly looked half asleep as he took the girls’ bags from Daniel.
“You’re in your jammies too, Jacky!” Clementine giggled up at him.
“I am. It’s a pyjama day today, huh? Yours are cuter than mine though.” Jack said, poking the shoulder of her blue plaid pyjama set.
Daniel thanked his best friend profusely and kissed his daughters goodbye before they were heading out to Jack’s car. Now alone, Daniel rushed back to the kitchen, stacking the used dishes in the dishwasher to keep the area clean and then set up the tray with the spread. French Toast that was perfectly drenched in maple syrup and whipped cream and strawberries, a couple strips of bacon, a small bowl of fruit, and a mug of tea. He finished the presentation with a flower from the bouquet in the living room, wiped his hands on his pants, and picked up the tray with an excited grin. Surprising his girl was his favourite thing to do.
He balanced the tray in one arm as he opened the door to the master bedroom and slunk inside carefully to not spill anything. Florence was already up; propped up on her side in bed with her lamp on and scrolling through her phone, probably wondering why her alarm didn’t go off. Daniel knocked on the doorframe as to not scare her and she glanced up, her eyes widening at the sight of him.
“What are you doing? I thought you left for work.” Florence smiled tiredly as he walked over to her bedside.
“I called in today.” Daniel said, carefully setting the tray on her lap as she sat up in bed. “Happy 20 weeks, sweetheart.”
Florence welcomed his soft kiss to her lips as he stood back up and she admired her little feast, pressing her palms to her blushing cheeks, “You spoil me, Seavey.”
“Just what you deserve; growing our littlest one and all.” Daniel shrugged, running a hand over the swell of her stomach and then bent down to press a kiss to the same spot.
“Come here.” Florence giggled, pulling at his arm to kiss his lips again. “I love you.”
“I love you.” Daniel mumbled against her lips.
He stepped back to let her eat and started opening up all the curtains that had been closed up over the floor to ceiling windows, giving them a perfect view of the city and the sky as the sun rose over the lake. Florence ate her breakfast in bed with a cheesy smile on her face, only grinning more when Daniel climbed back in bed beside her.
“Are the girls up?” Florence asked.
“Yep. And already gone off with Jack for the day.” Daniel said.
“Wait so today is just us?” Florence pouted.
“Yeah. Is that okay?”
“Yeah. I like that.” Florence whispered, leaning in to meet him halfway for a few lingering kisses.
“Eat up,” Daniel chuckled after a moment, gently pushing her back by her shoulder, “I have a whole day planned.”
Florence turned back to her breakfast and took another bite of the French Toast, “When did you learn how to cook?”
“Since my brother sent me the recipe.” Daniel admitted.
They stayed cuddled up in bed together as Florence finished her breakfast, feeding Daniel a piece of bacon and a strawberry or two once in a while. When breakfast was finished, Daniel took the tray back to the kitchen to clean up while Florence got dressed for whatever he had in mind next. Once they were both dressed and cleaned and ready to go, they met back in the hallway to head out the door.
“You look as beautiful as ever.” Daniel complimented, tilting her head up by a finger under her chin to press a kiss to her lips, “Absolutely glowing.”
“Can you stop flirting with me and just tell me where we’re going?” Florence laughed lightly as she zipped up her jacket.
“It’s a surprise.” Daniel said as he took her hand in his and grabbed his keys with his other and led her out the door.
Early March meant the weather was still cold but Daniel led them out of the elevator into the lobby instead of the parking garage, his hand still tucked in hers.
“Why aren’t we taking the car?” Florence asked, sliding her arm through his so she could wrap her arms over her chest to keep warm as they stepped out onto the sidewalk.
“We’re gonna take the subway.” Daniel shrugged, shooting her a smile. “For fun.”
“Like real city dwellers.”
“Exactly.” Daniel nodded as they continued on their path, still slightly shivering as they hadn’t gotten used to the cold outdoors yet.
They made their way down into the subway station and paid their small fare before waiting for the train on the platform, the underground still just as cold as the outside. When the train arrived, Daniel led them to an empty spot and got Florence in her seat first before sitting down beside her. She cuddled up close to his side with both her arms wrapped around his one.
“At least one of us is warm.” Florence said as she shivered.
“Who?” Daniel asked, his teeth nearly chattering.
Florence set her hand over her belly with a cheeky smile, “Baby.”
“Oh, right.” Daniel scoffed through a laugh.
Florence giggled to herself and leaned her head on his shoulder and he rested his cheek against her head, both of them staring out the window at the dark underground walls of downtown speeding past. Only a few quick stops later and Daniel was helping her up and keeping her steady as the train screeched to a stop and the doors slid open to let them off. The subway station led them right into the mall, the halls not too busy since it was still pretty early and the mall had just opened. Florence didn’t ask questions, simply let Daniel take her wherever he had planned with her hand tucked safely in his.
After an escalator ride or two, he stopped them in front of the maternity store, pulling her close to whisper, “Buy whatever you want, okay?”
“What?” Florence furrowed her eyebrows in confusion as she looked over at him.
“Just…no more than $300. But other than that, go crazy.”
“You’re just gonna let me…buy whatever I want?”
“I got a nice little bonus check and I wanna treat my wife. Get yourself some pretty dresses or something.”
“My God, Daniel James, I would straight up marry you again right now if I could.” Florence groaned with excitement, not even pausing to kiss him before she was rushing into the store.
Daniel followed right behind her with his own smile as she shuffled through the racks and down the aisles and he carried anything she found that she wanted to try on. She had really started to pop around the 16 week mark and her clothes were becoming more and more of a struggle to get on and her old maternity stuff didn’t quite fit right after a good four years so she was starting to need some new stuff.
Florence came from a background of money so she was a good shopper, meaning Daniel had a good heap of things in his arms by the time they made it to the fitting rooms. But, she had also lived on her own with nearly no income so she was also good at narrowing down and getting the best prices. After trying everything on – her least favourite part of a shopping trip so she went through it quickly – and receiving plentiful compliments from her husband, they finished with a good pile, ringing it in at $257 flat. They left the store with plenty of packed shopping bags and a childlike grin on Florence’s face.
She linked her arm in his again and leaned in to press a quick kiss to his cheek, “Thank you.”
“Anything for you.” Daniel smiled.
“Now what are we doing?” Florence asked excitedly.
“You have an appointment in,” Daniel checked his watch, “25 minutes.”
“An appointment for what?” Florence’s voice filled with hesitation.
“Something nice, I promise. No doctors.” Daniel assured her as he pressed the button for the elevator as he held all her bags.
The offices in the top floors of the mall were quiet and Daniel led her down the smaller hallway and into the spa.
“Oh my gosh, Daniel James, we don’t have money for all this.” Florence whispered.
“Hey. No stressful thoughts allowed in the spa.” he corrected lightly. “Besides, that’s why we have insurance. This is covered.”
Florence only bit her lip without argument and followed him up to the desk to check in for the appointment, keeping her hand tucked in the crook of his arm.
“We have an appointment booked for 11:45 under Seavey.” Daniel said to the lady behind the desk.
She typed a few things into the computer before smiling up at them, “We have you down for the prenatal massage, is that right?”
“That’s right.” Daniel nodded.  Florence hid her smile into his shoulder, her other hand setting softly over her growing belly as the baby kicked lightly as if they were excited at the idea of a massage too.
It might have been her third pregnancy but Florence had never ever been spoiled during one before, always usually left to fend for herself without any of the perks that came with growing a baby, and Daniel was not about to let that happen again. Especially when the secretary continued to check that they were keeping their once a month appointments up until 27 weeks when they would increase to twice a month. Daniel agreed with a proud nod. Florence bit back her tears and pressed her forehead against his shoulder to hide her blushing cheeks and shimmering eyes from the strangers in the room.
Florence was soon ready to be led to the appointment room and Daniel left her with a kiss and a soft pat to her belly, “You two have fun.”
Daniel sat in the waiting room with all her bags while she was in her appointment, busying himself on his phone and checking in with Jack to make sure everything was going well. Once the hour was up, Florence came shuffling back down the hallway with a blissed out sleepy smile and her hair an absolute mess. Daniel grinned at simply the sight of her and stood up from the waiting room chair.
“How was it?” he asked.
Florence slid her arms around his waist and nuzzled into his neck through a bashful smile, the bump of her stomach pressing up against him as she held him, “So good.”
“Feel like napping now?”
“With you?”
“Who else?”
Florence bit back her smile and leaned in to kiss him, “Yes, please.”
So they headed back home on the subway, their shopping bags securely in hand as they faced the cool spring weather again. Florence was still nice and relaxed when they got back into the apartment and she didn’t even wait until they got to their room to strip down and climb into bed, Daniel following after her and collecting her discarded clothes. He left the bags by the door and took her worn clothes to the closet to toss in the laundry bin before grabbing one of his sweaters and returning to her. Florence was slouched back in bed against the headboard, tired out from their morning adventures, the sheets resting just under the bump of her bare stomach and her hands were tucked around it.
Daniel helped her into his sweater before stripping down to his underwear too and climbed in bed beside her. He wasn’t tired in the slightest but he knew she was so he cuddled right up behind her, pulling the sheets up high to keep her nice and warm, and wrapped his arm around her waist to set softly on her stomach. Florence fell asleep quickly, already psychically exhausted from a long and busy morning and the odd nights of restless sleep and days of taking care of the two girls catching up to her.
Two hours later, with Daniel having drifted in and out of sleep for a while, he was fully awake again and still pressed up close to his sleeping wife. He shifted slightly, carefully moving to brush her blonde hair from her face and pressed a small kiss to her cheek before sliding his hand back over her belly under the sheets. She napped soundly, the baby obediently staying nice and still to give the young mother a chance to rest, and Daniel rubbed his hand in small circles over the growing bump.
Once Florence woke up not long after, it was nearly time for dinner so he ushered her up and into the bathroom to get changed into one of the new dresses they bought that morning. She took her time getting ready, sitting in front of the mirror in the ensuite and straightening her hair slowly and Daniel just leaned against the doorway and stared at her for a moment as he buttoned up his shirt, a calm smile on his face.
“Don’t want to rush you, sweetheart,” he finally spoke, “but our reservation is soon.”
Florence glanced up at him, “Well I wouldn’t be taking my sweet-ass time if you told me we had set plans.”
“Then what would be the surprise?” Daniel argued lightly, threading his belt through the loops on his dress pants.
When they were ready, they left the apartment and he opened the car door for her, and they headed out. The sun was setting in the early evening and cast a warm glow over the city streets and they both felt so at peace, Daniel’s hand in hers on her lap as he drove carefully to their destination. The restaurant at the top of one of the hotels in the city was where they went, having a table for two right by the window overlooking the lake as the sun set over the horizon, painting the sky in oranges and reds. Florence had her hand in his across the table, their empty plates in front of them, her eyes focused out the window at the view, the light from the watercolour sky lighting up her soft face and reflected in her light eyes.
Daniel had his favourite view right in front of him and he glanced down to her fingers tucked in his, her small diamond engagement ring sitting on her finger with her white gold wedding ring and he smiled to himself as he looked back up at her, running his thumb over her knuckles. Her right hand was resting on her stomach, right where she was growing their baby, and the simple sight of her sitting there like his favourite piece of artwork nearly had him in tears.
“Dani?” Florence tore her stare from out the window after a while.
“Yes, my love?” Daniel said, snapped back down to reality and he sniffled back his emotions.
“Can we go get ice cream after this?”
Her eager face had him grinning, “Of course.”
So after dinner, they drove to the nearby harbour front and walked the boardwalk with bowls of ice cream under the street lights. It was a bit too cold out to comfortably eat the cold dessert but anything that Florence was craving Daniel would not hesitate to get her and they walked and ate and shivered together all the way back to the car.
Daniel cranked the heat up once they got into the car and they took a second to warm up. Florence glanced over at him, his pink cheeks and combed hair and his eyebrows that were slightly furrowed as he tried to warm up, and she turned his cheek to her to kiss him slowly. After a few seconds she pulled back and swiped her thumb over his bottom lip.
“Thank you for today.”
“Day’s not over.” Daniel retorted lightly, pushing his lips on hers once more.
“Whatever is next better not cost any money because I swear we’re broke after today.”
“Stop stressing about that. Trust me. I know how much we can spend…how much I can spend on you.” Daniel said, leaving her with one more kiss before putting the car in reverse to head home.
Once they were back inside the apartment, Florence had to use the bathroom which gave Daniel the perfect excuse to set his last part of the plan into fruition.
Florence came back out from the powder room to a silent and seemingly empty apartment. She called for him with no answer, glancing in the dark living room before making her way down the hallway towards their room. The bedroom was dark too but the slightly ajar ensuite door let a streak of pale light across the hardwood and she walked cautiously over to peek inside. The room was dimmed to candlelight, tealights staggered across the countertop and the small table beside the stand-alone tub by the window where Daniel was stood and running a nice soapy bubble bath that filled the bathroom with the soft scent of lavender.
“What’s all this?” Florence asked softly.
He looked up at her at the sudden volume and he sent her a grin, the sleeves of his button up rolled up to his elbows as he prepared the bath, “Our own little spa. We can call it…Seavey Serenity. Or something.”
“Oh wow. That’s catchy.” Florence giggled, walking over to him.
He slid an arm around her waist and pressed a kiss to her cheek, “Like it?”
“I love it. Are you gonna join me?”
“If you want me to.”
“Of course.”
Daniel helped her out of her shoes and her dress and held her hand as she carefully stepped into the warm water and got settled. Florence rested back in the bubbles and watched him set her clothes on the small chair in the corner before stripping down too and he joined her in the warm water.
“Come sit behind me and cuddle me.” Florence said softly.
Daniel shifted slowly to the other side of the tub to not spill any water and they got settled together, his arms around her waist and her head resting back against his shoulder.
“This okay?” he asked.
“Perfect.” Florence nodded, welcoming his soft kiss to her lips. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Daniel kissed her head and then rested his cheek to the same spot, letting his eyes close peacefully.
Florence pulled his hands over her stomach, his palms pressing flat against her skin so he could feel the little nudges from the baby. Daniel smiled widely, resting his chin on her shoulder as he rubbed small circles over her growing belly under the water. They sat in silence together for a moment, just feeling their baby wiggle around a little under their hands in the warm water and calming candlelight.
“Two more weeks until we find out if our tiny dancer is a boy or girl.” Daniel whispered.
“Yep.” Florence smiled. “What do you want it to be?”
“I don’t mind.” Daniel said, pausing to kiss her shoulder, keeping his eyes on the curve of her stomach that almost poked out of the water. “I like little girls, but a boy would be fun too…and new. New is a little scary though.”
“Yeah.” Florence chuckled, lacing her fingers in his. “You’re already terribly outnumbered though; so much estrogen in this apartment. Might want someone on your team.”
“Don’t mind.” Daniel shrugged, brushing his nose up the side of her neck and pressed a few soft kisses there too. “We could have fifteen more little girls and I’d be more than happy.”
Florence smiled to herself a moment in thought before looking up at him over her shoulder, “I like our girls.”
“Me too.” Daniel agreed, pushing a quick kiss to her lips.
“I’m gonna be nervous if it’s a boy. I’ll be calling your mum every two hours to figure out how to raise boys.”
Daniel chuckled lightly, “Nothing to worry about. He’ll be the biggest mama’s boy, I’m sure of it.”
Florence hummed in acknowledgment, lost in her thoughts again as they sat together in the warm bath, his soft skin pressed up to hers easing her stresses. His fingertips drew soft circles over her stomach with her hands still tucked in his and his lips left lazy kisses over her shoulder. The floor to ceiling window in the ensuite gave them a wide view to the city, the dark night sky polluted with the stars that the city lights made, a world going on below them while they sat frozen in time together in their warm candlelit bubble bath.
“Flora.” Daniel finally whispered after a while.
“Yeah, Dani?”
“I like having babies with you.”
She leaned back against his shoulder to look up at him and raised her one hand to the side of his face to keep his nose brushing against hers, the candlelight reflected in his blue eyes, “Me too.”

Idk got bored again sorry ^^

genre: fluff? small angst?
Tumblr media
You were living with your friend in small apartment building, it was pretty old, but the apartments themselves were modernized. You and your roommate were the only ones on the floor, which was the highest and had only two apartments, because the two left were made in to a storages. “Y/N, I think we will have a new neighbors,” said Sasha. Sasha was from Russia with beautiful blue eyes and long brown hair and blonde ombré to it. “Huh, you mean someone finally rented that apartment next to us and is actually moving in?,” you asked not believing her. You didn’t really believe her because, everytime your landlord said, that the apartment next door is getting rented, they backed away last second, leaving the apartment free for over a year now. “Yes, Mr. Suh said that his grandson with his friend are moving in.. they are coming over from California to start anew or something,” she answered while putting away groceries. You just shrugged and helped her with preparing dinner.
Next morning you were woken up by banging noises from next door. “The FOK they doing in there!,” you yelled not happy with the noises in the morning. You came out of your room, finding Sasha casually drinking coffee, already dressed for uni. “Good morning to you too, sunshine,” she said to you with sweet smile, knowing you were pissed off. You scoffed at her and started eating breakfast she made for you. You went to get ready still mumbling curses to no one in particular.
Both of you made it in time to the uni and sat on your favourite spot. It was at the very back of the room no one sitting there, because no one liked that you couldn’t hear well. But you and Sasha preferred it exactly for that, you were alone in the row. Taking notes only from presentations tho. Lecture was starting soon, and two guys bursted in sprinting to the back sitting next to you and Sasha. You and Sasha looked at them confused, never seeing them before and not understanding why they were in such a rush. Then the professor came in taking all your and Sasha’s attention from the boys. An hour in to the lecture one of the boys, leaned in to Sasha and whispered something to her. You assumed to ask for notes from last lecture... aaaaand you were right because she handed him her notebook with notes. You heard deep thank you and just shook your head paying attention back to the lecture.
Finally the lecture ended, so you were packing up. “Hey, thanks for the notes. We will give them back to you tomorrow,” you heard and looked up, seeing the taller boy talking to Sasha. Finally looked at his friend who had a tattoo on his neck. You stared at it a little bit, admiring the work and then looking away when you heard Sasha, “No it’s okay, you can take your time going through them. I am Sasha Glukhovska and this is Y/N Y/L/N,” and you just waved slightly. He smiled at you nodding his head, “I am Johnny Suh and this is Jaehyun Jung.” Suh? like your landlord Suh? , you thought then it hit you, “Oh, aren’t you the grandson of Mr. Suh owning the old apartment building with modernized apartments?,” you asked making Sasha realize the same thing. “Yeah, I am.. do you also live there?,” “Yeah... we will be next door neighbors it seems,” Sasha answered with small chuckle. You looked at Jaehyun for his reaction but he just had a poker face on his face. But his eyes were boring deep in to yours, as if searching for your soul to steal. “Wow, perfect, let’s see you around then, bye,” Johnny said with small smile walking away together with Jaehyun. “Who would have thought we would meet our neighbors at school,” Sasha chuckled while also walking away you behind her, her Russian accent present.
It was 7PM when you got home, Sasha dragging you to the shopping mall after lectures ended. You were tired as hell going straight to take a shower. “What should we get for dinner,” Sasha screamed at you through the bathroom door, “I don’t know. Order anything,” you yelled back while drying off and putting clothes on. When you got out Sasha went in, which meant you will be taking order. Twenty minutes of you chilling on the sofa reading a book, you heard a bell ringing, thinking it was food you stood up and went to the door. When you opened it you weren’t met with the delivery man, no. You were met with tattooed neck, chest and dark eyes. You looked at Jaehyun confused. “Hey, you need somethin’?,” you asked confusion strongly present in your voice. “Hey... uh... I came to ask for notes from classic literature.. I need them so I know what’s going on in that lecture..,” he said with his deep husky voice. “Oh, sure. But, y’kno... you could wear a shirt while coming here for notes,” you answered, laughing hard and turning around to get his notes, not seeing his reaction. ‘And you could wear sweats not the shortest shorts there are,’ he thought looking at your ass. You got back with the notes handing them over to him. “Thanks, baby girl,” he thanked you with a wink and went to his apartment. “Weirdo,” you said going back inside when the delivery man came with your take-out.
You were always meeting Johnny and Jaehyun at lectures, at the hall of your building or generally when going over to them to ask for something. Sasha and Johnny eventually got together. You found them cute together. And you started to have feelings for Jaehyun, which you tried to suppress, because you knew you weren’t his type. So you were just playing around, being his good friend he could rely on. But. Tonight. You wanted to kill them, tho. You get it, Friday, so party. But. You and Sasha told them repeatedly, to not host party this Friday, because both of you had to wake up early on Saturday to go on a train to visit Sasha’s parents. You were going to have BBQ party and you wanted to be in a good mood, which meant nice sleep. You were tossing around, trying to muffle all the noise from nextdoor. You’ve had enough, and went over to their place, after putting at least shorts on. When you went in, you automatically saw Jaehyun on the sofa with some girl on top of him, making out. You felt somehow sad and jealous when you saw them. But you shook your head, getting rid of the image, and went over to them tapping him on the shoulder softly and saying his name. He broke the kiss with girl, his eyes going wide upon seeing you standing there. “Y/N, what are you doing here?,” he said standing up leaving the girl on the sofa. She looked at you all annoyed and walked away. “Hey... I just.. I..- can’t you at least make less noise and put volume down on the music? We told you that we needed to get up early tomorrow for over three days...,” you said in soft, somehow, broken voice, not looking in to his eyes. “Shit. We thought you were going next week.. sorry, yeah I’ll find Johnny and send everyone home,” he tried to give you a small apologetic hug but you backed away only nodding your head, saying small thanks and walking away. When you got back in, tears started streaming down your face. You didn’t realize it, until Sasha came out of her room, also pissed off by the noise. But that anger went away the second she saw you silently crying. “Hey, angel, what’s wrong?,” she asked, rushing to hug you, “huh??,” you looked at her confused, “Why are you crying hm? What happened?” You didn’t answer, only crying harder in to her neck. You fell asleep in her bed, cuddling her. Sasha was still awake, thinking of what could’ve happened... and decided to text Johnny, if something happened to her when she went over to ask them to turn down the noise,
Saaasssha<3: hey, john what happened to y/n
JohnnyS<3: hm wdym
Saaasssha<3: she was crying till she fell asleep
Saaasssha<3: so i thought somehin happened to her while she was over
JohnnyS<3: idk... ill ask jae
Sasha put her phone away for a second and cuddled your body more to her side, waiting for a response. After five minutes of waiting her phone vibrated with new message,
JohnnyS<3: so.. y/n found jae making out w cindy...
Saaasssha<3: i thought they broke up? th
JohnnyS<3: yeah apparently she forced herself on him righ be4 y/n came
Saaasssha<3: and i guess he didnt explain
JohnnyS<3: no... and he was ready to confess to her his feelings when u come back from trip
Sasha just sighed, texting back a goodnight and cuddled to you, eventually too falling asleep.
The next day, you woke up after Sasha, who was in kitchen making a breakfast. “Mornin’,” you said with sleepy voice, sitting down. “Hey, uhm… Johnny and Jae are coming with us… my mom wants to meet Johnny and he doesn’t want to leave Jae alone for three days... ,” “Oh… okay… I mean it’s not like I have a saying in this..,” you answered, taking sip of your tea. After breakfast you went out to Johnny’s car, he said he will drive there so you don’t have to wake up early for a train. “Can I sit in the front? I feel sick in the back of car,” you asked with small voice, looking down and playing with hands. “Sure. Hope my girlfriend won’t be jealous,” Johnny joked, winking at Sasha while opening the door for you. “Pft, you know I don’t care that the two of you are close, but don’t cheat on me,” Sasha said and sit at the back next to Jae. The car ride was full of Johnny getting directions from Sasha, Jae singing to the radio and you being quiet, looking out the window.
When you came to the house, Sasha’s parents were already waiting for you in the front, like always. You just said short greetings to them and went ahead inside, leaving them confused. “What happened?,” asked Sasha’s mom all concerned. “Something with one boy who didn’t say anything when she caught him kissing another girl,” Sasha answered looking at Jae, who just looked down, already having an earful from Sasha this morning, when you were still asleep.
Evening came and everyone was sitting at the backyard having fun, eating bbq. You were sitting in a far corner alone, smiling to yourself at the jokes Johnny and Sasha’s father were making. Sasha came to you, hugging you, “You okay? want to take a walk with me?,” she asked patting your thigh. “I could take a walk… but alone… I’ll be back in an hour,” you answered getting up and just saying to everyone you will be back later. When you were going down the street you heard someone running, so you turned around expecting Sasha trying to catch up with you. But it wasn’t Sasha.. it was Jaehyun. “Hey… let’s.. walk together,” he said taking your hand in his. You didn’t take your hand away, enjoying some warmth in this chilly night. While walking you stumbled against a playground with swings. You went ahead and sit on one of them, Jaehyun sitting on the other next to you. After ten minutes of just silence, you softly swinging back and forth, Jaehyun pulled your swing to him and looked in to your eyes. “Listen, Y/N, nothing happened between me and Cindy. She got on top of me right before you came in, and I thought you saw how we were arguing before that… I am sorry for making you cry,” Jaehyun said looking apologetic and having the softest look in his eyes. You looked at him confused because only Sasha knew you were crying yesterday. Then it hit you that she had to confront him, she was that type of friend. Someone made you cry, she would instantly go and literally smack them. “I mean… it’s not like you have to clarify yourself,” you said looking away.
“No, I have to, because I have something to tell you,” he said taking your chin in his hand turning your head to back to him. “I love you Y/N. I really do, you are making me happy and making me soft. And you know how cold I was when we first met,” leaning in and looking at your lips, “I fell in love with you, baby girl, and I wonder how you didn’t see that when literally everyone saw that and teased me about it,” he chuckled. You were looking at him, all shocked hearing something like this from him, “But.. I am not your type.. and…,” you tried to look away but he still held your chin, “And what?,” he cocked eyebrow waiting for your response. “Amanda said you told your friends that I am clingy and annoying, so I thought you hated me…,” you finished looking at his nose, refusing to look in to his eyes. “Tch, that bitch. I should tell Sasha to smack her,” he answered looking to a distance for a second, then back at you. “I do love you, baby girl. And, I will make you mine,” he said with deep voice, leaning in and finally kissing you, softly. When you broke the kiss you looked at eachother, him stroking your cheek lovingly. “I...I love you too Jae. Loved you for a long time, actually.,” you said softly looking in to his eyes which were full of love only for you.
You got up and went back to the house holding hands. You were going back to the backyard when Jaehyun pulled you back and dragged you up the stairs to your room where you were sleeping in alone. When Jaehyun closed the door you looked at him confused, “Why? They are still outside waiting for us,” you said trying to open the door, and he back hugged you tightly, whispering in your ear, “Mmmm, but I want to play with you alone baby girl,” kissing the underside of your ear. Your face flushed pink and he turned you around, smirking at your expression. He took his shirt off showing his tattooed torso and abs, “Now, now, don’t be shy, I will be careful… but only at first tho, then I won’t hold back, love,” he said while picking you up and making you hug him with legs. He put you on bed and kissed you softly.

absolutely adore the way you write the greens! so buttercup and butch and just domestic bliss? just any fluff is fine!
first, I’d like to apologize for long this took, and then I’d like to apologize for how long this is...she got a little out of hand but I hope you like it!
                                                   Family Trips
Butch was happy. Quite frankly, he couldn’t recall a time in the last few years that he hadn’t been happy, but today he was especially happy.
Buttercup had offhandedly mentioned needing some basic things for around the house when they had been cleaning up after dinner one night and he knew their four year old could use a new pair of shoes - God knows that kid went through sneakers like a maniac but Butch supposed between his superpowers and being his son that it wasn’t that surprising. So, he had suggested that they take advantage of the upcoming weekend and spend a day downtown. Both adults agreed that now would probably be the best time to get some much-needed shopping done considering the recent drop in monster attacks that usually came with the changing of seasons.
So, when Saturday rolled around Butch woke in a good mood knowing that this would be a day specifically for spending time with his family. His mood got even better when Bruce was well mannered at breakfast. Despite being very obviously excited for a day out, the boy was showing none of his usual signs of misbehavior even going as far as to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when Buttercup asked him what he wanted for breakfast.
The car ride to the mall was also uneventful in the best of ways. Bruce sat in his car seat with no objections and talked candidly about all the fun things he would do when he stayed the night at his cousin’s later that day. Butch made a mental note as he drove that a stop at the candy store would probably be in order before they dropped Bruce off at Brick and Blossom’s.
“Mamma?” Bruce ended his excited rant to ask his mother a question,
“What’s up, green bean?” Butch smiled at the nickname his wife had for their son.
“Can I get a dinosaur so I can take it with me and I can play with Bryce?”
“I know for a fact that Bryce had tons of dinosaurs you guys could play with tonight. I’m sure Bryce wouldn’t mind sharing.”
Butch could see Bryce’s face form a small scowl from a quick look in the rearview mirror.
“Ya but, I don’t have any to play with at home either.”
“Well buddy,” Butch interjected, “you would if hadn’t broken yours.”
Bruce deflated at the memory of why he no longer had any dinosaur toys.
“Here’s the deal.” Buttercup turned in her seat slightly until she could look Bruce in the face, “If you behave, maybe Daddy and I will let you pick out a new dinosaur.”
Bruce immediately perked up at the possibility of a new toy,
“Really?”
“Only if you behave the whole time.”  At that, Buttercup reached to tug playfully on one of Bruce’s legs.
The little boy pulled back and roared, throwing his arms up. Butch could only assume that he was pretending to be a dinosaur. He let out a chuckle as Buttercup continued their little game until Butch found a parking spot.
“Ok mister dinosaur,” Butch opened the passenger side door and helped Bruce out of his seat, “remember the deal.”
Bruce smiled up at his father, “Behave!”
Butch chuckled before holding his hand out for Bruce to hold onto as they crossed the parking lot and entered the typically crowded mall.
For his credit, Bruce sat patiently as a store clerk fitted him for new sneakers - green of course. He politely gave his input on what dress his Mamma looked prettiest in for her interview with his aunties the next week. He even ate his lunch in the food court without making any more of a mess one would expect from a four-year-old.
After lunch, the small family had just two more things from their list to pick up. Thankfully, the sheets and towels that Buttercup preferred were found in the same store.
“Mamma,” Bruce tugged on Buttercup’s hand as they made their way inside the homeware shop, “can I ride in the cart?”
Buttercup looked at the lines of grey shopping carts that Bruce was currently pointing at.
“Are you going to stay in the cart the whole time?”
The little boy nodded his affirmation so Butch made his way over to snag one, ruffling Bruce’s hair as he went.
Butch knew when he suggested this family day at the mall that Bruce would most probably be tired by the end and he could tell his original instinct when, instead of floating up into the seat himself, Bruce lifted his arms up to Butch. He made a show of lifting the boy into the little plastic seat upfront - even without his powers, it would take minimal effort considering that Bruce was a little small for his age - causing the four-year-old to giggle.
“You’re silly Daddy.”
“Am I? Or are you just really heavy?”
“Am not! Mamma, am I heavy?”
Buttercup chuckled at her two boy’s antics,
“No baby, but Daddy is.”
Butch scoffed, placing a hand over his heart in mock indignation and hurt. Buttercup turned her head slightly but didn’t stop pushing the cart towards where she knew the sheets would be. Bruce laughed at his parents' familiar back and forth.
“That’s pure muscle you're talking about, woman! Heavy my ass.” Butch said once he caught back up.
Buttercup gave him a look. Bruce tended to repeat words he learned from his Dad and, more often than not, it would lead to a scolding for her from her older sister. He mouthed a sorry towards her but they both knew he wasn’t. Personally Butch thought those lectures were kind of funny considering that, before they got together, Brick cursed like a sailor. His older brother would still let something slip every now and again - it never quite ended well for the redhead when that happened.
Bruce seemed to have not noticed Butch’s own slip up though,
“I’m gonna have mus-cels just like you Daddy!” Butch could tell that, sometimes, Bruce was bothered by his small size. He always tried his best to encourage him when that happened,
“Of course buddy! You’ll get there in time, just like me.”
Buttercup made a beeline straight to the collection of black sheets, stopping in front of the vast choices to decide which ones to purchase. Butch never put in his two sense on these kinds of things. If it were up to him they'd probably be sleeping on the scratchiest sheets in existence - just something to cover the mattress. He’d learned in the years they’d been together though that his wife had skin more sensitive to these kinds of things than him so he usually just let her get whatever she wanted and when he had to pick, he’d just go with whatever was softest.
They'd been standing in silence for a few moments until Bruce spoke up,
“How much longer Mamma?”
“Not much longer green bean. I just need to figure out which one of these is least likely to tear.” Buttercup pushed and pulled the cart in front of her slightly in an attempt to calm Bruce.
“I feel like we just bought sheets.” She said exasperatedly.
“Probably because we did. Ya know, we wouldn’t have to keep buying them if someone would just stop ripping them.” Butch lowered his voice to a level he knew only BC would be able to hear, Bruce not having learned how to train his superhearing to that extent yet.
Buttercup blushed at the implications of the sentence. She looked away from all the sheets for a moment to sneak a glance at Bruce who looked to be on the verge of a twitching episode brought on by his annoyance at all the sheets - a quirk he inherited from his dad. One look at the kid told both his parents that he would need a nap before heading over to the red’s place.
“Hey, the towels are just around the corner. Would you mind - ?”
“Don’t worry, I got you.” Butch didn’t need her to explain to know what her goal here was, they knew each other better than anyone. If they split up they could get out of here faster which meant Bruce could get his nap faster.
He also knew that no matter how tired he was Bruce would insist on getting his Dinosaur. Butch supposed he earned it - his behavior today had been wonderful aside from currently but who could really blame him?
By the time he found what he considered to be the fluffiest towels available - green, gotta stick with the theme - Buttercup had apparently decided which sheets would put up the most fight against her superstrength. He met back up with her and Bruce in the line for the register upfront, the latter of which was almost jumping out of his seat at this point.
Deciding to avoid disaster before it struck, Butch placed the new set of towels in the cart and gathered the squirming child into his arms. Bruce seemed to settle down once he was no longer confined to the shopping cart.
Looking ahead of him at the long line for checkout Butch made an executive decision.
“Hey,” he turned towards his wife, “I’m gonna take the little man to the toy store and get him his reward.”
“Dinosaur?” Bruce perked up immediately.
Buttercup shot Butch a thankful look before turning to address their little boy,
“Well you held up your end of the deal, it’s only fair we hold up ours. But you still have to behave for the rest of the trip, got it?”
Bruce shook his head eagerly, giggling as his Momma tickled his stomach.
Butch made to set the boy down so he could walk but was stopped by Bruce’s protest,
“No Daddy.” He tugged on Butch’s sleeve slightly to let him know that he wanted to be carried.
Usually, he would insist that Bruce walk, he was a big boy after all but Butch knew he would probably be pushing his luck. Butch was a brave man but even brave men did not want to handle superpowered tantrums in a crowded place.
Placing the boy back on his hip, Butch was reminded of when Bruce was smaller and he’d carry him around more often. His kid was already four now - time really flew by.
Bruce layed his head down on Butch’s shoulder and, for a minute, Butch thought the boy had fallen asleep due to how quiet he was. He was proven wrong though as soon as the toy store came into view. Bruce immediately began to squirm in his father’s hold - a sign he wanted to be put down. Butch complied but kept a firm grip on the child to avoid a superpowered accident.
Butch noticed that Bruce seemed to take careful consideration as to which toy he wanted. Eventually, he had narrowed his choices down to either a green and blue-winged dinosaur and a purple t-rex. Bruce looked up to his dad with the biggest puppy dog eyes he could muster and, although Butch had a weakness in anything involving his kid, he had prepared himself for this. He schooled his features into what he hoped conveyed sternness.
“One.” He held up a finger to emphasize.
Bruce sighed deeply and Butch tried to hide his chuckle at the blatant show of disappointment. The child stared at the two plastic toys in his hand before ultimately deciding.
“I want the pterodactyl!” Bruce held up his prize to his dad’s face.
“Are you sure?”
“Mhmm, I’m sure Daddy.”
Butch’s superhearing picked up on a few older women swooning over the apparent cuteness of their current scene.
“Look at how cute they are.”
“Men with babies are just adorable.”
Bruce must have picked up on them because he turned to the end of the aisle and assured the two women that he was most definitely not a baby.
Butch made to apologize on behalf of this kid but the women waved him off,
“Of course, how silly of us. You’ve got quite a brilliant young man on your hands there.”
“Oh,” Butch answered back, “you have no idea.”
The two women laughed. They made a few more comments before leaving, mostly about how handsome Bruce was and how he looked the spitting image of his father - Butch had to agree with both.
Father and son made their way to the front of the store to pay for the toy.”
“What’s this again, a triceratops?” Butch knew that he was wrong. He lifted the toy towards his face and made a show of examining it just to get a laugh out of his kid. The question was also used to distract the once again noticeably tired child as they waited in line.
“No Daddy,” Bruce sounded exasperated and Butch couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face, “It’s a pterodactyl.”
“Hmm. You should make sure to show Uncle brick when you see him today ok? I don’t think he knows his dinosaurs very well.”
Bruce perked up at the idea of teaching his super-smart uncle something new. Butch knew he was being a little shit but he couldn’t help it. Brick wouldn’t correct the little boy but he knew he would be practically dying to give the boy a lecture as to why ‘pterodactyls’ aren’t a real dinosaur and how the proper name was pteranodon (look, Butch was a smart cookie too he just didn’t flaunt it the same way as his brother).
After paying and handing the toy back off to Bruce, Butch checked his phone to see a message from his wife to meet her back at the car.
Bruce once again motioned that he didn’t want to walk. This time Butch placed the kid on his shoulders and Bruce sat contentedly, one hand gripping onto his hair to keep himself steady. One the walk to the car Bruce used his free hand to make his new dinosaur fly, squawking noises Butcha assumed were supposed to be dinosaur sounds occasionally escaped from his mouth.
When they finally made it to where they had parked, Butch saw Buttercup leaning against the car with the various bags they had accumulated over the day sitting on the ground around her feet. He raised an eyebrow at her.
“You have the keys, genius.”
Despite her rude comment, Buttercup placed a kiss on Butch’s cheek as she haled Bruce off of his shoulders. Bruce happily settled into his mother’s arms, eyes drooping, and head resting on her shoulder. Butch unlocked the doors as Buttercup made her was around the car.
“Are you tired, green bean?”
Butch heard Bruce mumble his dissent and he imagined that the boy was shaking his head although he couldn’t actually see from where he was placing the bags in the back of the car.
Walking back around to the driver's side door Butch could see his wife place a kiss on their son’s head. Bruce responded with another squawk and Butch couldn’t help but smile at the sight of his wife laughing so candidly with their son, happiness exuding from both of them.
The car ride home was just long enough to lull Bruce off to sleep. Buttercup made sure to be gentle as she brought the sleeping child inside the house and up to his room. When he woke he’d be upset that he had indeed succumbed to the nap that he so obviously needed - preferring to have rather gotten to his cousin's house early so he could show off his new dinosaur.
Pulling the covers back Buttercup layed Bruce down in the small bed and carefully tucked the covers around his little body. Bruce shifted, turning from his back to his side and hugging his new toy closer. Buttercup moved his bangs out of his face.
“He’s gonna need a haircut soon,” Buttercup said in a form of acknowledgment of her husband having entered the room. Her voice was low so as to not wake the sleeping child.
Butch hummed, moving away from the door frame where he had been standing and closer to the bed.
“You need one too.” Butch ran a hand through his hair. She was right. He tended to keep the sides short but the hair on the top of his head was beginning to curl in front of his eyes.
“I brought all the bags in.” He mimicked her volume level.
“And I suppose that's all you did?” Buttercup said, referring to his habit of bringing in groceries but leaving them on the counter instead of putting them in their right place.
Butch just shrugged,
“ I wanted to come check in on you two. I’ll put everything away later.”
Buttercup turned her head away from him but not fast enough to hide the small smile that tugged at her lips. Looking back down at their son she placed a kiss on his chubby cheeks before standing up from the bed. Butch opens his arms and Buttercup gladly accepts the affection.
“He’s getting so big.” she sighed.
“I know. Thank you for giving him to me. I never thought I’d ever have...anything like this, I -”
“Stop it.” Buttercup sternly interrupted him. “It doesn't matter what you may or may not have done in the past, it’s exactly that - the past. I love you, ok? So much. So does Bruce. That little boy adores you, Butch; you say he’s a Mamma’s boy, but all I see is that he wants to be just like his Daddy. Don’t ever say anything like that again.” By the end of her scolding Buttercup was holding Butch’s face in her hands. Butch leaned in and kissed her.
When they broke apart, Butch looked back over to Bruce who was still sleeping peacefully, hair having fallen back into his face.
“We should have another one.” the words slipped from his mouth before he could stop them,
It was something they'd been considering lately - having another kid. Butch wanted to. Secretly, he was hoping they’d have a little girl. He could see it now; she’d look just like her Mamma and he’d spoil her senseless. Bruce would be a great big brother.
“I want that.”
“What?” he was confused.
“Whatever world you’re thinking up in your head where we’re all happy and loved and Bruce gets a sibling, I want it.” Buttercup was smiling so wide Butch couldn’t help but mirror her.
“How did you…?”
“You say it all the time, we know each other better than anyone; sometimes better than we know ourselves.”
Butch didn’t think his smile could get any larger but as he stood there with his loving, beautiful wife in his arms and his son sleeping peacefully and contently just a few steps away, he couldn’t help it. His smile was so wide and so bright and yet, Butch knew that it still couldn’t convey just how happy he was, how lucky he was, how...loved he was in this life that he never thought he’d be able to live.

The Demon’s Bride (7)
So Here’s the next chapter of Demon’s Bride. I’m gonna try to finish my ficlet the Miraculous Awakens and add an update to Miraculous Future before doing another Demon’s Bride update.
I’m also trying a new method of taglist. I love that people enjoy my story and want to be tagged but the list got really long really fast. (I think by the time I had the third chapter/first ficlet out it was a full list). Unfortunately this meant a lot of the readers who had longer comments about things they enjoyed or questions in the story (things that keep me motivated to write!) wouldn’t get a tag. So I’m redoing the taglist. Some will keep changing because except for a select few that got me started in the cursed Daminette ship (god I love you people) everyone is gonna be kind of flexible. Meaning your name might get bumped in the next update.
I do try to tag these stories with (The Demon’s Bride) and (The Betrothed AU) let me know if there’s another tag I can add to make finding them easier. Believe me I know the struggle of trying to find out if a writer has updated.
One person suggested I cross post on AO3 and since I finally got an account let me know what you think. Not just would you read it but would this story be something you would download to save a copy? I do that with all my favorite works on that site and would consider it to be the biggest of compliments.
Okay, thank you all for enjoying this story. Thank you for being patient while I work out my own tag list system. Enjoy the next chapter
Beginning Previous Next Masterpost
————————————
The next morning the class ate breakfast in the hotel breakfast lounge. It was large enough that they could break into their two groups but not so large that Marinette’s group could ‘accidentally’ get left behind.
Marinette rolled her eyes as she listened to Lila continuing her stories from the day before about meeting the youngest Wayne and how ‘It was love at first sight’.
“Damian is just such a sweetheart. It nearly broke my heart to have to put our relationship on hold when mama got her assignment in Paris. But I am happy she did as I got to meet all of you. And now I have a chance to see my Damian again.”
Lila smiled slyly as she leaned closer to her slaves, “In fact, we have plans to see each other tonight. He’s going to take me on a romantic dinner date. If you can keep it a secret from Ms Bustier I’d be ever so grateful. I don’t think she’d like it if I did something by myself but I’ll just never have a chance like this again.”
Marinette had a feeling she’d strain a muscle at some point before the end of the trip, either from rolling her eyes too hard or from fighting back the urge to roll her eyes. She’d have to somehow arrange for Lila to be supervised if she actually made it out of the hotel and more than likely that duty would fall on her as her usual alternatives were in Paris.
A glance at Juleka showed that the girl was already anticipating Marinette’s thoughts and would be taking on the supervising (stalking, call it what it is) duty for Marinette. Fortunately, continued training and practice during Akuma attacks had refreshed skills instilled by the league to readiness in both girls.
“No worries girl. We got your back, unlike some people,” Alya said with a pointed glance at Marinette. Alya had blamed Marinette when her relationship with Nino fell apart and once Marinette had stopped responding to her phone messages Alya had made it her personal mission to blame the worlds evils upon Marinette.
Marinette ignored them and kept typing on her phone.
“You guys are so trustworthy. I don’t know what I’d do without you guys,” Lila smiled at them.
“Class finish up your meals we need to meet the bus outside in five minutes for us to head to the mall,” Ms Bustier called.
“Hey Nino, I forgot a jacket up in my room. I’ll catch you at the bus,” Marinette said nonchalantly as they cleaned up their dishes.
“You’re planning something,” he stated. A raised brow dared her to deny it.
“Not at all. Just have Markov do a recording would you?”
“Sure, sure. But you’re reporting this, not me.”
“Done,” Marinette agreed as she headed back to the elevators. On the ride up she pulled out her phone and sent a quick text.
M: Meet me outside the hotel? I might need a ride.
D: Why? Are you safe?
M: I’m fine right now. But if things play out like they usually do I’m gonna need a ride
D: got it
Grabbing the bike jacket she’d left on her bed Marinette hurried outside the hotel. The bus’s engine was just starting to rev when she called out.
“Wait. I’m here,” she called and ran towards the bus.
It slowed for a moment before picking up speed and taking off. Marinette watched as it drove off and shook her head. She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
“Bonjour Commandant,” she said cheerily before he did more than greet her.
He sighed, “What happened?”
“I might of made a stop in my hotel room this morning to get my jacket before meeting the rest of the class at the bus.”
“And you were left behind again?”
“I was left behind again,” she confirmed. “I was nearly at the bus and called out for them to wait. It started to slow but then took off again. There were open windows and Nino should have Max and Markov making another recording.”
“I’ll wait for the files. You know we’re going to have to report this when you return to Paris.”
“Absolutely. This is getting ridiculous and entirely too unprofessional of Ms. Boustier. If it were any other person getting left behind they could end up killed here in Gotham.”
“Do you need us to arrange transportation?”
“No thank you, I already did,” Marinette turned to look at the motorcycles that stopped next to her at the curb.
Damian lifted the visor on his helmet and looked at her. She smiled at him and finished her call.
She looked at the second bike and rider and back at Damian.
Damian held out a second helmet to her and explained. “My father and brother’s aren’t entirely comfortable with me being alone and unsupervised with someone from the League. Todd volunteered to chaperone today.”
Marinette took the helmet and sat on the back of his bike. “Had many run-ins with Leaguer’s?”
“Too many,” Damian admitted. As soon as Marinette wrapped her arms around his waist and told him the class’s destination he took off.
Marinette smiled as she sat behind him on the bike and let herself fall into old patterns of trusting him to get them where they needed to go. Within minutes they pulled up alongside the bus. Marinette grinned as she asked him to rev the engine and get the class’s attention.
When several faces turned to the window Marinette lifted her visor and waved at the class. Just as she was laughing at their shocked faces the lights changed and Damian took off again with her laughter trailing behind them.
************************
Jason followed behind Damian and watched as Demon Spawn pulled up next to the bus before the girl waved at the class whose attention they had gotten. When Damian took off again he had to watch as the two moved together as they wove through traffic. What surprised Jason more was Damian never turned to check the cars behind him. Instead he watched as the girl would do checks and then Damian would move. Damian trusted her to watch their backs.
They seemed to have a system down and had seemlessly fallen back into it. Like they had ridden together before? But they couldn’t have. Damian came to Bruce at 10 years old. The girl had to be about the same age so how...?
Jason let the thought go as they pulled up to Gotham Mall. Damian parked near the main entrance the class would have to go through after parking the bike and let Marinette off first. He and Jason followed suit before locking their bikes and the helmets up and waited for the class to catch up.
“So Pixie-pop, you know Demon Spawn from the League?”
Most people would say Jason didn’t know how to use tact but most people were also idiots. Sometimes when you did things blatantly and unexpectedly you would get more honest answers from others.
Marinette glanced at Damian and then turned to Jason when he nodded. “I’ve known Damian most of my life in the League.”
Jason looked at her. The answer was factual but there was undertone of meanings behind it that he was missing.
“He mentioned the League was divided into factions? Divisions?” He fumbled his question and waited to see how she would respond.
Marinette turned to Damian and spoke in a language he didn’t know. It wasn’t English, French, Japanese or Chinese which he’d learned from Bruce and Alfred before his death. Nor was it Arabic, Russian, or German, which Talia had forced him to learn after his resurrection. The closest he could compare it to was Chinese but it had a different cadence, intonations, sounds, everything really so it was completely not understandable to him.
When Damian responded in the same language Jason was less shocked. He just waited for the two of them to finish.
Marinette nodded before turning back to Jason, “The word you were looking for was designations and yes Damian and I both had one. Most trainees are given one by the end of the first year of training though it can be changed if a particular aptitude is discovered. Or if they lose enough standing with the League.”
Her eyes were a little darker, a little sadder at the mention of losing rank within the League.
“Ah,” Jason nodded and looked at Damian, “you didn’t mention you had a designation last night.”
“TT, I didn’t think to mention it last night. My designation was the Demon’s Right Hand. The heir of the Demon.”
“Makes sense since you were Ras grandson,” Jason admitted.
Marinette snorted, “the old Demon had at least five grandchildren, though no one’s sure if his son had any children so there could be more out there. And Damian was the third born. Nothing the Demon ever did made sense.”
Jason was startled. No one knew that Damian had other siblings, blood-siblings, since he’d made it sound like his trainee group were like his only brothers and sisters.
“Grandfather insisted that only the best could succeed him. Even from my early trainee days my brother’s knew I could take their inheritance from them if I was better than they were. Our rivalry,” and boy was that a loaded idea, “was actively encouraged and the only way it could end was with the deaths of our competition.” Damian grimaced at that.
“Hey, Ali wasn’t so bad. He loved his big brother.” Marinette bumped Damian’s shoulder, trying to distract him.
“Ali loved his big sister,” Damian tapped a finger on Marinette’s nose, “who got her mother to take in the kid when he began his training and gave him family. Just like his big brother.”
Marinette smiled fondly. “He’s a good kid. Did you know Talia has him doing some PR as they’re ‘rebranding’ the League? I think the American, Luthor, has done that a few times.”
Damian quirked a brow.
“He’s shown up in Paris a time or two. Mostly as PR attempts to promote ‘acts of charity’ or such. My class actually ran into him a few years ago. He made a friend with one of the girls in my class. We pass messages through her when we can,” Marinette nodded to herself, “but it’s been harder to do with the tension between my classmates.”
Before Jason could ask anymore questions the bus with her classmates in it pulled into the Mall parking lot. Strangely another car seemed to be following behind it.

Okay, tag list capped out as I was scrolling back through comments on ch. 5 but the taglist is flexible anyways at this point. I have plans to update the Miraculous Awakens prologue and the Miraculous Future chapters this week. Please vote which you would like to see first. I’m hoping to get the first update posted either Wednesday or Thursday nights. (Though sadly I am suuuuuper flexible with my posting schedule. Basically I post whenever I have a chapter ready). Also i plan to wind up the Once Upon A Miraculous epilogue next weekend so that’s three chapters I’ll need to be toying with this week.

7. Bending Laws
9. Confessions
8. Christmas Spirit:
Charles drives through the small town of Beaver Creek. Chris and Daniel were going on and on about Power Bear and superheroes. There were a lot of little mom-and-pop shops. He pulls up to the parking lot of the Christmas Market and parks close to the front entrance. The three of us climb out of the front. Charles helps Chris out of the back, “Okay buddy, you’re ready?” Excitedly, he says “Yeaaahhh!”
Sean helps Daniel out of the back of the truck. Daniel begins speed walking to the market but Sean grabs his right arm. He says, surprised “Hey!” I tell Charles and Chris, “You guys go ahead and we’ll come back to meet you, okay?” Charles says “Sure.” Daniel tries to get away, “But - -“ Charles tells us “Don’t get lost!” They head into the market.
We face Daniel. Trying to make sure he gets it, Sean says “Dude, what the fuck are you doing? I can’t believe it...How many times do we have to keep going over the rules?” Annoyed, he says “Don’t show the power” - - I know...But Chris thinks he can do all this cool stuff. I wish he could...He reminds me of Noah. I just miss having friends...” Sean says “We know man...But you can’t lie to friends about something like this...He could get in trouble thinking he can make shit fly...Or he could get hurt.” Trying to understand, he asks “So you want me to tell him the truth?” I tell him “Well, we don’t want you to lie anymore...You don’t have to tell him everything, but...Don’t let him think he has magic powers, okay? You swear?” Daniel says “Okay, I swear.” Sean says “Deal. We’re counting on you, enano.” He asks “Can I go see Chris now?” I say “Yeah, let’s go.” Sean says “But don’t forget what we said.”
The three of us enter the market. The first thing Daniel says is “Woaw...So many trees! Ugh...They look like giant cocoons...Creepy...” He goes over to the table where the seller of the trees is. There was a can of fake snow, he says “Mmmm...I bet dad didn’t know about this...” Then notices a giant netting machine for the trees. He comes up with another question, “Is this what they wrap the trees with?” Sean says while chuckling “Yeah...We should put you in it!” Daniel says “Shut up! You guys coming?” I tell him “Don’t worry, we’ll be around!”
He heads over by Charles and Chris. As we get closer, we hear Chris ask “Can Daniel help, dad?” Charles says “Of course he can!” I smile at how fast they became friends. I was looking at some Christmas trees in a corner. Daniel and Chris come by and sit on the cinder blocks near by.
Chris says “Hey...You think you can come to our house for Christmas?” Unsure, Daniel says “Mmmm...I’ll have to ask grandma and grandpa...” Sounding hopeful, Chris says “Maybe we can do it all together? I’m sure dad would agree!” He says “It’d be awesome!” Changing the subject, Chris asks “So what’s your best score on Mustard Party 2?” He says “About 800, I think!” Shocked, Chris says “Whoah, cool! Mine’s a bit lower...” He mentions “I was about to beat it a few weeks ago, but...Sean’s phone ran out of battery...”
I walked away and checked out the rest of the market. I saw a blue snowman display. I checked out some of the other types of Christmas trees they had. Sean and Charles talked for a few minutes. Charles then went and talked to one of the customers.
Sean then came and joined me in the second part of the market. I was looking at one of the display tables when I feel his arm against mine. He says “Hey.” I look at him, “Hey.” To the vendor, we say “Hi.” The vendor says “Good morning! It’s nice to see new faces in this old town!” Politely, I tell him “Thanks! It’s a...super cool market you’ve got here...” He tells us “Small towns are the best for Christmas! Who are you guys staying with?”
Sean says “We’re just passing through, so, uh...At a...motel.” The vendor mentions “Well, I saw you speaking with Charles, so I thought...” I add “Oh! We’re not related...” Sean chimes in “My brother Daniel is friends with Chris...” The vendor tells us “Gotcha. I like his son...Funny little guy. Despite everything...Anyway, welcome to Beaver Creek. If you need anything, just holler.”
We look at the three different options for gifts on the table. Our choices are a sitting patriotic bear, a snowman and a wooden beaver. We talked for a few minutes about what Daniel would like. We decided on the snowman. Sean says “Can we get one of those...snowmen things?” The vendor says “Of course! They’re handmade by local kids!” “That is so cool!” I tell him him.
I give him the money, “Here you go...” He says “Thanks! Anything else?” Sean says “No, we’re good!” He tells us “Have a nice day then!” I say “You too. Thanks!”
We check out the table of wreaths next to the male vendor. Sean says to the woman, “Hi! This is a...nice collection!” The woman tells us “Why, thank you! I make them all myself!” I say “Whoah, that’s so cool! Must be a lot of work!” She says “Definitely too much for the money they get me, yes...” He asks “How come?” She explains “Well, people certainly don’t buy as much handmade Christmas decorations as they used to. The mall has ruined every single ship in town. Can’t do anything about it. And people seem surprised when unemployment is going through the roof.” I tell her “I know, it sucks...But we can’t do anything about it, right?” She says “I like to think there’s always a solution, however frustrating that thought can be. Anyway. You’ve got better things to do than listening to an old lady ranting about capitalism, right?” Sean says “It’s cool. Don’t worry.” The woman says “Well, thanks for hearing me out anyway. You guys have a nice day!”
I faintly hear strumming of a guitar. I look around and see a woman with purple hair. She has a small red paper plate sitting on the ground in front of her. I place a hand on Sean’s shoulder, say “Sean, I’m going to listen to the woman with the guitar. Do you want to come with me?” He says “Maybe in a few minutes.” I kiss him on the cheek and head over.
The purple haired woman starts strumming then begins It’s me, it’s me, you’ve come to take/My duality awakes/By midnight time I could not see,/If I were you or you were me/We play the game with skillful hands/And so I asked for your demands
At this point, Sean comes and stands next to me. I cross my right arm across my stomach. Let my left arm hang free and my right arm hanged on to my left elbow. I all of a sudden feel his fingers intertwine with mine. I look up at him and smile. He smiles back at me. The purple haired woman is still singing, Give me your love, give me your thumb/And he traced us back to where we begun/So the morning came/And swept the night away/As I was looking for/A way to disappear/Amongst the quiet things/And all these empty streets/I found a way, I found a way/To reappear... (Song lyrics credit goes to ‘I Found A Way’ by First Aid Kit)
The woman finishes. In a southern accent, she says “Wow, you made it all the way through...Weird...” I tell her “That was wonderful. You’re really good.” Nervously, Sean says “It was pretty cool.” She says “It’s cool that you both listened. People are usually too busy to care.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Sean rub the back of this neck. His cheeks are a little red. He says “This is a small town. They’re not used to having street artists...And stuff...” The woman says “Yeah, they’re not used to many things...Especially seeing new faces on the street...” I tell her “Well...Thanks for the music, and...Good luck.” She says “See ya.”
With our fingers still intertwined, we walk around the market a little more to check out everything. As we were looking at one of the displays about donating, Sean says “I’m going to go talk to that woman with the guitar again.” Not thinking too much about it, I say “Okay.” He quickly kissed me on the cheek.
After five minutes, I decide to go join him. I get there just as the woman says “Me and my friends have been...Crashing here for the week...Nobody...gives a shit about us...I can tell you’re both not from around here.” I got the sense Sean was struggling with words. I chime in “No, no way...Just...Here for the holidays.” She says “Ah! You got family.” Sean finally says “My grandparents...” “Gotta love the grandparents!” She says.
To give Sean’s brain a break, I ask “What about you and...your friends? Road Trip?” Laughing, she says “Not really...We kinda hop from place to place, hunting for...little jobs...” Sean says “Must be a long ride.” The woman explains “That’s okay! We hop on trains.” As she draws out the word trains. She adds “Gives us time to rest.” All he could say was “Man...” I tell her “That sounds wicked.” Laughing, she says “You guys have no idea...It’s free and feels so fucking fun! Well unless you get caught or...fall, but...We’ve been lucky so far. That’s the best. Nobody tells us what to do. No coloration owns us...”
Probably thinking of all the different things he can draw, “And you get to see so many cool places...” The woman tells us “Exactly! Next stop is Humboldt County, California!” Jokingly, I say “Stoner break!” “Not even close! We actually got work over there!” She tells us.
Daniel comes by us, stands on the left side of Sean, begins “What are you guys doing? We picked a tree with Chris! It’s all crooked, like an old witch!” Noticing the purple haired woman, “Oh, hi...who are you? Your hair looks so cool! Is it a wig?” I look away and make an ‘eeee’ expression. The woman tells him while shaking her head, “Ah, well...What do you think?” He says “Mmmm...I don’t know...But it’s really cool! I’m Daniel! What’s your name?”
While giving him a high five and fist bump, she says “Hi, Daniel...I’m Cassidy. I dig your superhero outfit...” He tells her “I’m on a secret mission with my friend! It’s very dangerous!” Cassidy says going along with it, “I can tell! I hope you get your mission accomplished!”
They both turned toward us. Cassidy asks “And what’s your names?” I tell her “I’m (Y/N).” Sean says, nervously again “Oh, uh...Sean...I...I thought we told you.” She says “Now you did.”
A guy with brown dreads and a black dog comes walking up to Cassidy. It seems like they might either know each other or they don’t. The guy says “Sorry, went through some shit with the guys...How much you make? You ready?” Well, that answers my question. He turns to us, “Hello, pups...” Daniel noticing the dog, says “Oooo, is that your doggie? So cool!” While looking at the dog as it begins wagging its tail, the man says “Yeah, he’s been through a lot...Like most of us...So we adopted him. And he stinks! Yeah, you stink and you like, huh?”
The man bends down and pets the dog. Cassidy tells him, “He’s not the only one.” The man says “Have you checked your hair? I think it just twitched! You should keep your distances.” Sean says, confidently “Hey, never too careful! Who knows what may crawl out of there?” She says “Whoa-hoa, the boys join forces! You already perverting him, Finn!” I say “I think it looks cool.” Cassidy gives me a fist bump, says “See? She knows I’m clean...You’re the nasty one...”
Cassidy picks up her backpack and begins packing up her things. Finn says “Yeah, you always for those suburban folks...” Sarcastically, she says “Are you kidding? You wanna talk about your scoreboard, hotshot?” I say putting my hands up in defeat, “Hey, no worries...” “Come on, let’s bail!” He tells her. Cassidy tells us “It was nice meeting you, (Y/N), Sean and...” she bows at Daniel, “...Daniel.”
They walk away. Finn turns back around, says “Stay outta trouble, kids!” Daniel says, waving “Goodbye!” Cassidy says “Hope we see you on the rails someday!” Sean says “Yeah. See you around.” He says “That doggie was so cute...I miss Mushroom.” I tell him “I miss her, too.”
Cassidy and Finn are about to leave when they are stopped by a man who seems like a security guard. The man says, authoritative “Hey, excuse me! Dogs have to be on a leash around here. Too many strays...” Sarcastically, Cassidy says “Sorry, dude. We don’t do leashes.” The man says “Well, the city does. An unleashed dog is liable to a fine, so...” She asks, shocked “You’re gonna fine our dog? Well, that’s not very nice!” The man tells them “Loitering is illegal, too. And you don’t live here, right? Right?” “Calm down, sweetie. We’re allowed to visit the Christmas Market. Our dog’s not gonna eat you, look at him!” Finn tells him. The dog starts to wag his tail.
The man warns them “You better watch your mouth. You punks are always causing trouble...This is a nice town, okay?” Cassidy says loud enough for him to hear, “Jeez...Someone needs to get laid...” Finn says “He’s out of pills...” I cover my mouth with my hand to hide my snicker. The man says “That’s it, I’m calling the cops!” Cassidy says, sarcastically “Oh god, he’s gonna call the cops on us, Finn!” He says “Chill out, we’re leaving this shithole, anyway. You don’t even have a Santa, for Christ’s sake!” Cassidy says one last thing to the man, “Merry Christmas!”
The two exit the market as the man crosses his arms, “Fucking parasites...” Daniel asks “Why did they fight? I don’t get why he yelled like that...Should we do something about it?” Sean gives me a mischievous look. It took a couple seconds but then I got what he is getting at.
He says “See the snow on that booth?” Daniel asks “Yeah? What about it?” I say “Maybe this guy needs a shower...” We walk in front of him to give him some cover. We leave just enough space in between for him. I add “You know. To cool him down...” Laughing, Daniel says “You’re right! Hold on...” We cross our arms and pretend to look at the view. Sean says “Careful...Careful...” Daniel lifts his hand, laughs “This will teach him!” We hear the snow start to crunch a little and then it falling off the roof. Sean and I turn our heads a little to get a better look. We see the snow fall off of the top of the booth and right on the guy. The guy begins shaking the snow off himself in anger and discomfort. I tell him “Nice...” The three of us start to laugh. The man says “Come on!” We immediately stop laughing to hide what happened.
Sean sits down at one of the picnic tables. He pulls out his sketchbook and begins to sketch. I sit down next to him and try to see what he’s drawing. He noticed me and gives me a small smile. I scoot a little closer to get a better look.
Just as he finished up, Chris comes over. Chris asks him “What are you drawing? Whoah, it’s so cool! Are you like, a professional?” Laughing, Sean says “Nah. More like the opposite.” He says “You could draw comic books! The awesome adventures of...Captain Spirit and Super Wolf!” I say “That sounds really cool! I would totally read that.” Sean says “Pretty rad for a Hollywood name. Yeah...I’ll think about it!” He ask “Hey, can you add something funny to your drawing?” Sean asks “Funny? Like what?” Chris says “I don’t know! Something cool!”
Sean takes a few seconds to decide then he adds cartoon aliens and a spaceship. Chris says “I hope I can draw like you one day...” He says “I’m sure you will, man.” Chris walks away. I tell him “That’s really cool! It was sweet what you did for him.” He puts his sketchbook away as we get up from the picnic table.
We head to the front of the market and see Charles and Chris waiting. He asks “Hey, you guys ready to go?” I say “Yeah, all done!” Charles says “Cool, hop in!” Daniel and Chris climb into the back hatch. Charles climbs into the driver seat. Sean and I get back into the passenger seat. The two of them are giggling back there. Charles asks “Are you having too much fun back there?” Chris says muffle by the window, “Yes!” He says “That’s what I thought...” I look out the window and smile. He pulls out of the market. Heads back in the direction of their house and the Reynolds’.

"... the handcuffs are a rather recent development in the whole hero business. They suppress most power quirks the moment the wrist rings snap together, however, Darlings, remember that people with mutation quirks are largely unaffected! Still, they are quite sturdy, so there should be no problem with putting them onto a villain, even if they got a cute squirrel tail!"
Ms. Midnight explained, with a smile, using her riding crop to point at the picture of the anti-quirk handcuffs on the whiteboard, holding her notes in the other. Coming to the end of her explanation she looked into the class, before asking:
"So who of you can summarise how the handcuffs work?"
Immediately hands shot up into the air to answer the question, mostly the usual suspects, but notably Mineta's too, probably to score himself some sort of attention by the beautiful teacher. Unfortunately for him, the question still went to Iida, who instantly shot up from his chair.
"The handcuffs were introduced about 10 years ago by the Shiamoto Security Corporation. They emit electromagnetic waves through the wrist rings and activate when they are locked in place. They only work on activated quirks only but are still sufficiently practical as useful as normal handcuffs!"
"Good boy, sit!" Midnight answered, a small wink downwards with her crop accentuating what she was saying.
Putting her down her notes onto the table she continued on: "So much for theory! I want you to get into your gym clothes and I see you down at field B for some practice."
She let the tip of her crop smack against the flat of her hands, the sound being the sign for the students to scramble to their feet and quickly do as they were told!
Ten minutes later, the class had assembled down on the training field, standing in a neat half circle around their teacher, who had rolled out a small cart with a few pairs of anti-quirk handcuffs.
"Ok, split into groups of two, we are going to practice putting the handcuffs on! Those, who don't have a mutation quirk, feel free to try and use your powers regardless! It's good to see how that kind of thing feels!" Midnight explained, as she looked over their students. "No need to fight just yet, we are just getting familiar with these."
Honestly, Izuku couldn't really take his eyes off them. There were many questions he had in his head. Sure, he had paid attention in class, everybody reacted differently to it and some quirks were even totally unaffected, most of which were those that changed your body, but how would it work with him? Did it affect One for All? After all it was something that was put on him later. How was it with those quirks that had the effect on the mind of the user... So many questions...
"Midoriya, I would appreciate it if you could focus on training instead of mumbling to yourself."
With that Iida was bringing his training partner back from the long winded corridors of his own mind. It was almost embarrassing, Izuku laughing awkwardly as he lowered his hand from his mouth, folding them apologetically in front of him.
"Sorry about that! So who is going to start with putting them on?" he asked carefully, being mindful to not get distracted by his own inner monologue again.
It was basically a coin toss, before they decided that Izuku should be the first, picking up the handcuffs from the cart. They were definitely a bit heavier than he anticipated. He could imagine that somebody could use them as light dumbbells for starting out, before he turned them around in his hands.
There were some helpful buttons on the thing, towards the center, allowing it to spread further apart or tighter together. Also some sliders to make the cuff parts bigger or smaller as well as an auto adjust button. Really a neat tool!"
Practice itself was somewhat unsurprising while using it in Iida. Putting him in handcuffs was fun enough, the self-adjust function being particularly useful in making sure you were closing the cuffs quickly around anybody's wrist, even if they were as thick as Iida's. Unsurprisingly, it was pretty much impossible for his friend to rev up the engines on his legs.
For a moment, Izuku saw Iida's eyes gloss over as he was trying really hard to get everything moving before he soberly noted: "As expected, no matter how hard you try, it is not possible to activate your quirk. What an impressive piece of technology."
Izuku couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the way his friend was phrasing that, before he was undoing the handcuffs and handing them to him. With that, Deku held out his  hands, waiting for Iida to get the settings right, as he let him try around and experiment as well. After all, they wanted to become more familiar with that tool.
"Alright" the runner muttered as he laid the cuffs over Izuku's wrist. Checking if everything was right he then quickly snapped them shut over his wrist.
The effects were pretty immediate. Deku could feel a slight warmth creep over his wrist that definitely felt irritating at first. The feeling quickly crept over his whole body, getting worse and worse bit by bit until finally coming to an halt at his stomach. Slightly nauseous. As if he had lain in bed and jumped too fast?ENot bothersome but definitely uncomfortable.
"Ok now for trying to..." The moment he started pulling from his quirk it was like he had been gut punched. Nausea rose up his chest, he felt like he was about to throw up. The stronger he fought the feeling, the harder he tried to activate his quirk the worse it got. Then it got stuck in his throat, giving him absolutely no relief, his belly feeling like it was about to convulse but it just couldn't build up the strength to push him over the edge and fire out that thing that made him sick.
After a few more seconds of trying, he just gave up, sweat rolling down his forehead as the more he pulled back, the better he started feeling again. Looking up Iida, he gave him a slight nod before his cuffs were once again unlocked and this uncomfortable warmth disappeared.
"That was certainly... an experience..." Deku announced. Iida just nodded in agreement. There was little more to say to that. Still feeling the remnants of that uncomfortable feeling in his gut, he looked around. It was clear, some were definitely taken to this better than others. Somewhere having the same glazed gaze that he had seen on Iida's face. Others were just doing quite fine. Minetta was looking both amused and frustrated that the cuffs had difficulties becoming small enough for his thin arms. Overall, a mixed bag of reactions."
"Ok boys and girls! Now that everybody got their taste with the cuffs, we are going to do the next step. One of you will play the villain, the other one playing the hero and you will try and put handcuffs on each other. First without quirks, then with them! But no holding back, I want to see you trying!"
Midnight announced the moment she felt like they had enough time to really experiment around. Izuku would have preferred if she had given them a bit more time, because a threatening aura started to build up behind him, starting to loom over him, bit by bit, drawing closer.
"As you are holding the handcuffs right now, Midoriya, let's make this quick. I will play the villain at first!" Iida announced in his usual bombastic fashion. Izuku himself only turned slowly to face him, a clot building up in his throat as he felt his friend getting into his villain persona for these kinds of exercises. "Oh boy" Izu whispered under his breath as he got himself ready for this...
______________
"I am very sorry, Midoriya! I did not mean to go that far" At a perfect angle Iida was bowing before the couch, in the same strict and proper manner that one was used to from him by now. On said couch laid a very distraught Izuku, two cooling bags on his shoulders after the training. Definitely not the worst injury he had endured over the last year or so, but it still hurt.
Regardless, with an awkward smile he was just waving his hand. "It's fine. I know you had the best intentions." Midoriya said with a forgiving smile as he felt the cool sooth his overexerted joints. Having Iida as partner in a Hero/Villain training usually bore the risk of going just a tad bit too far.
Ochaco could only sympathetically smile at the two, knowing all too well, that if it didn't hit Izuku she would be the one that would lie on that very couch now, complaining about her aching shoulders. One day, Iida would learn not to give 110% all the time. Today was not that day.
"At least we got a free schedule this afternoon. Any plans you guys had?" she asked her friends, switching away from the topic of having a pair of aching shoulders.
Both boys didn't even get time to think about their response. Leaning over the back of the couch Denki inserted himself into the conversation:
"The gang and me are looking at the new arcade near the mall today. If you wanna you can tag along."
The Deku squad exchanged a few glances between each other before they just shrugged (a little ouch from Deku for that) before they agreed to come along. It sounded like a fun time at least.
With that decided they started packing up for the little trip, Izuku letting Iida do him the favor of grabbing his stuff while he was enjoying the last few minutes with the cooling bags soothing his pain before they got ready to go.
In the next few minutes all were lined up at the bos stop of the campus. Denki, Mina, Bakugo, Sero, Jiru, Eijiro, Izuku, Ochaco... and with that IIda was done counting the number of participants. Maybe some of them started regretting bringing their class rep along. Either way, they were on the bus sooner rather than later? On the way to the arcade!
"It's been a while since I've been at an arcade. Used to have one nearby where I lived when I was in middle school still" Sero started recounting. "It closed though, shortly before I graduated. Was a shame, really."
"We also had one nearby our school. But I really only went there with Kacchan when we were little." Deku chimed in from behind Serofs seat, somewhat timidly while he fondly remembered those few early birthday parties, when he was still invited, that ended before rows of gaming cabinets.
"Deku is the worst person to invite to the arcade," Bakugo boomed from the back row of the bus. gFirst, he will do absolutely nothing all day and cling to you like a leech until he finds one machine and then hogs that machine for the rest of the day! And even when you go home, he will still only talk about nothing else but that one damn game!?EClearly, he was remembering those times just as vividly as Izuku.
There were some giggles, most of them somewhat awkward over how tense the relationship between the two still was. Some were just giggling because of how?Ewell, Deku it was. It was not difficult to imagine that Izuku out of all people would sink himself way too deep into one game.
But the bus went on and as the chatter moved away from the past, they arrived at the mall and moved to the arcade as a closed group. Deku trailed at the back with Iida. Iida of course looking out so nobody was left behind.
Izuku, on the other hand, felt more like keeping a bit on the downlow. Sure, it wasn't really embarrassing what Kacchan revealed about him. Heck, even the fact that some laughed actually didn't hurt really. After all, he could tell there were no ill intentions. It was more the uncomfortable realization that he had done something like that without ever having really realized that. One might even call it guilt but from a time long gone" It was difficult to explain.
Either way, they ended up at the entrance of the arcade, everybody lining up nicely to charge up their point cards (Iida was pleased with how orderly everything was going) before they arranged the rest of their little adventure:
Everybody was allowed to go where they pleased. Should any issues arise, they would send it into the group chat. At 6 PM they would meet back up right there at the counter, where they were currently talking in front of.
And with that the group dispersed into the long halls of the arcade, disappearing into the land of games and gimmicks, each into their small, little groups. That left behind Iida, Ochaco and Izuku.
"Well, I guess we get going too?" Uraraka suggested as she started to lead the two boys into the dim hall of the arcade. Discussions started pretty immediately, which games she should decide on.
"... I didn't buy as many points. I wanna make them count!" She explained with her face in concentrated furrows as she stood in front of a "Dance Dance Revolution" machine, looking at the two foot pads... It was really fun she knew that. But playing alone? No way, and asking either of those two.... no, that might come across as weird.
"You know, you could have asked, if you wanted to loan. We are out to have fun and you do not need to hold back."Izuku offered with his ever kind smile on his face. Really, it would not be a big deal and he already knew what her response would be?Ebut it felt wrong not to mention it at least.
"Ah, no, no worries. It would feel wrong to borrow money for something so trivial." she shot the offer down with a handwave, a somewhat awkward smile on her face. This felt a bit played in at this point, a small ritual they practiced each time they went out somewhere. It was one of these strange ticks of wanting to help and somebody who doesn't want to be helped.
"Let's move on or we are going to take root here." Iida said after a moment of contemplation as they continued through the narrow hallways, flanked by potentially interesting games on either side. Talking was becoming increasingly difficult, though. The space between the arcade machines was rather narrow and only could comfortably fit two people walking next to each other.
And then there was the fact that walls were swallowing a lot of sound. If you were not right next to each other it was really hard to understand what the other person was saying.  So all things considered, this was perfect for a pair of two to enjoy their day at the arcade, undisturbed by the many people that were around them... strangely intimate.
However, right now, it made Izuku feely strangely isolated. As it was right now, Iida and Ochaco were the pair walking next to each other. In part, because Iida was more prone to talk, in other part, because after what he heard on the bus, Izuku tried his hardest to not repeat the sins of the past... and somehow that meant that when they were walking he ended up trailing behind his two friends.
It was somewhat ironic. Over the last few months, he had definitely started gaining a lot more confidence and he felt more and more at home with his friends. Still, old habits seem to die hard. Especially when you brought up the past. His mind wandered back a little, knowing he was a bit too stuck in his own mind... yet he hardly could help himself. Before he even realized it really he had fallen behind a few steps behind his friends, who were seemingly debating something very intensely.
He stepped forward, about to call out to the two, when suddenly a hand started to run around his face, pushing onto his mouth. He could hardly even react, think before something round and hard was pressing into his back. it didn't need much to figure out what was pressing into his back. Instantly, Izuku raised his hands, showing that he was unharmed while he could feel the barrel of the gun rub against his spine.
"It's so good to see you, Izu~~~" a sweet, excited voice purred right into his ear from behind. A voice he knew... especially in situations like that...
"Himiko Toga?" he muttered carefully into her hand, just earning himself a giggle while she gently lowered her hand from his mouth down to his throat. "Say that again, please~" she cooed
Feeling sweat running down his skin, he took a deep breath. Might as well humor her... it worked before.
"Himiko To-'' he started before he heard a quiet squee coming from the girl standing behind him, feeling her breath against his neck as she leaned a bit closer, feeling the edge of the gun press a bit harder into him. "Uhuhuhu~, i like it when you say my name."
Just as she was saying that, something went through his head. This was Himiko Toga. He had never seen her use a gun. And it was not just one instance of meeting her. She always used a knife, didn't she? She used one last time too...
Carefully Izuku strained his eyes to look as much to the side as he possibly could... From the corner of his vision he could see a cabinet for a rail shooter. Maybe it was a bit of a gamble, but if he would look down, he was pretty sure that one of the toy guns they use for controls would be missing... and the cable they were attached to would lead right to the girl behind him.
He took a deep breath, his hands shaking from all the adrenalin basically boiling in his blood. It was a bit of a gamble but what he was about to do. "I am going to move..." he announced.
Slowly he moved his hands, reaching to his throat, where he could still feel her fingers curled around his neck, not enough to hurt, for now, but definitely made him think twice about moving fast. Gently, slowly, he laid his hand over hers. He exhaled, realizing he had held his breath up until now, before deciding to push forward the moment he noticed no resistance coming from the girl behind him.
"I am going to turn around." he added after a moment. Leading her hand away from his neck he started diving under his own arm as he kept holding onto her hand as he turned bit by bit until he finally faced her. Golden eyes stared at him, her smile becoming wider and wider... somehow he got the feeling she was expecting something. For a moment, he was lost, just staring back at her as the only thing going through his head was the relief of seeing that she was indeed just holding a toy gun.
A moment passed and Toga just seemed content with looking at him, letting all that just had happened sink in, before suddenly purred out: "I also like it when Izu's holding my hand~"
Like a hammer, that strange realization hit Izuku right in the gut, his eyes widening, his heart skipping a beat. The strange realization that he was holding hands with her came some out of nowhere that it threw him for a loop. He already could feel blood rushing up into his head, his cheeks start glowing bright red, while he tried to let go of her hand, but it did not seem like Toga was going to give him that luxury. With a wide smile on her face she held tight onto him, humming happily as she scooted just a little bit closer.
"What are you doing here?" Izuku kind of blurted out of nowhere, his eyes frantically checking between her face and their hands. Just when he thought he was sweating before... Honestly, you would think that knowing that you are not in immediate danger would calm you down, but if anything his heartbeat was just increasing with every passing moment.
"Oh Izu~" she really liked saying his name, it seemed. "I could ask you the same thing."
Somehow, that was quite the surprising answer. He had no idea why, but the thought that a villain would go somewhere for amusement and fun... it did not occur to him before.
"S-so..." he tried to continue, but honestly he had nothing. What was he supposed to say now? He still stood there with her pretty close to him, his fingers still intertwined with hers. He was not sure if he had suddenly dropped out of all nervousness or if his anxiety had transcended to the point, where he was just looking at her with his mouth agape, wrestling for words.
Then the thought occurred to him that somebody could see them like that together. Would they know? What if his friends were seeing him like this? They WOULD know that he was sure now. How could he explain to him what happened. Could he explain it? Sure, this was very much a similar situation to that he was in just before the training camp but... really that was not it.
He probably had been silent for a little bit too long, because she was tilting her head, clearly trying to get in his head somehow. There was at least the distinct feeling that she was looking right through him right now. But he couldn't do the same. He stared in her golden eyes and just... he couldn't quite understand what was going on behind them. If anything, there was just the distinct feeling that he was not actually in danger right now, that holding a toy gun to his back was just her sense of humor...
But apparently, Toga had had it with just waiting around. With a hum she turned slightly towards the booth, tugging on his hand until he came closer to her once more, still feeling the anxiety but at this point he was just complicit.
"So... since introductions are out of the way. Have you ever played this game?" She asked, as she twirled the toy gun in her hands, standing just a tiny bit behind him to lean a bit closer to him.
It took him a bit of looking. But honestly, it didn't take a genius to figure out what this game was about even if he hadn't heard of it before. A rail shooter, for one or two players, since there were two controllers. From the look of the banner, he could guess something along the lines of a military shooter, where you would play as some action star. Not usually the kind of game he would go for.
"Can't say that I have." he admitted. He thought about maybe elaborating on it, but he didn't even get to finish that thought as Toga pushed the controller into his hands, putting her palms around his fingers to make him grab the gun with a big, toothy grin. "Then let's try it out, Izuuu~"
Before he could really say anything she had snuck behind him and laid her arms around him and her chin onto his shoulder. It felt a little bit weird. After all he was a bit taller than her, meaning she had to balance herself on her toes. Well and then there was the fact that she was pushing herself against his back in such an... intimate way. The way she put her weight on him, trusting him to not just suddenly move or step aside.
Somewhere in his head he just came to the conclusion that he felt way more nervous about this than he should be. But it didn't really help that; "I am not really that good at shooter games..." he confessed as she pushed the controller into his hands, closing her fingers around his hands. This was not helping at all!
"They are still fun, right?" Toga asked, more so whispering in his ear instead of saying out loud. Izuku stopped for a moment, thinking. She had a point, he supposed. Trying to reason back was haard, because he got nothing really. Were they fun? He hadn't tried playing anything like this for such a long time that he honestly had no idea, really!
"Not really sure." He finally managed to press out. In response, Toga just raised her hands, wordlessly starting up the game for the both of them. The game loudly announced its title and went to a screen, just the stereotypical image of someplace in an arid desert. In the middle of the screen appeared a crosshair that started following the movements of the controller, right now bobbing in place from Izuku's shaking hands. Well, it seemed like Toga made him figure out if those kinds of games were fun to him!
The first enemies started to appear on screen, his hands jerking in the right direction to press the trigger on the toy gun. Bang! and that soldier keeled over dramatically, earning him a giggle into his ear, by the girl learning so close to him. Before he could even process that giggle, she had moved his hand into position for the next enemy appearing, leaving him to only have to push the trigger once more.
Somehow this was the way their teamwork was going to work out. She moved the gun and Izuku would jerk to shoot. Here and there he earned himself a giggle from her, tickling the back of his ears, especially when there was a particularly gory kill on screen. There was some enjoyment in hearing her laugh like that even if it was maybe not what he would call wholesome. It was just a different kind of carefree, a shred of humanity that he had not experienced to this degree. After all, there was nobody here to fool, like she might have had to last time.
Though, like all good things, this too had to come to an end. As well as they might work together, here and there an enemy appeared faster than they could react and shot them before they could do him the favor. GAME OVER!!! Well it was certainly fun as long as it lasted. Their points flashed across the screen. The leaderboard asked for the 3 letters to indicate how well they matched up to everyone else.
Before he could even think about it, Toga had already positioned the toy, hammering in IZU into the machine before finally, and quickly, let go of his hands, positively as she was practically vibrating in place. "That was fun! Is there anything you come out here to play?"
Izuku was just in the process of putting back the controller, still thinking on what just happened, as he mindlessly aped: "Anything I want to play?"
He honestly didn't really think about it. Just like everybody else in his group he had come here with no expectation with what this  arcade had to offer, so that question left him a bit off balance. The  fact that she implied that she was now with him somehow managed to fly completely over his head.
"I got nothing planned, really" he admitted. For a moment she just smiled widely, before reaching once more for his hand, dragging him away without needing to say another word. Walking along the cabinets she would stop here and there, looking around then looking at him, her eyes wide open in excitement. Somehow that reminded him a bit of cats, walking in front of you but stopping ever so often if you were following them despite being just a footstep behind them.
While she was clearly keeping her eyes out for something, something came to Izuku's mind, making him look around attentively as they essentially retraced his steps before she had found him. A few cabinets he had already seen along the way, a rhythm game or two, whose flashy logos had stuck in his mind... Oh!
Toga almost fell backwards as Izuku abruptly stopped in his tracks. Seemed like he had found something. Standing in front of the dancing platform, he chewed on his words a lit bit before asking: "Would you like to try this one out with me?"
A light blush appeared on his face as the realization of what he had just asked went through his head. It kinda had just come out in that moment without any thought, thinking only about that it might be fun... but of course there was more to it. This was what turned this accidental, little uncomfortable meeting into something else entirely.
It was not lost on her either. A flush on her cheeks and that wide grin on her face again; She definitely got the message he had unintentionally and thoughtlessly sent. Her fingers curled a little bit tighter around his hand and with a quick "Yes, of course!" they were already on top of the dancing pads, looking at the shared screen.
"Any song you would like to try?" Izuku asked, gallantly trying to ask for her favorites before his own, whatever those might turn out to be. He was fairly confident in his ability to dance, thinking back to the choreography they had practiced in for the culture festival. Even if that had been a hasty affair back then.
After a little bit of consideration. Toga just shook her head. "Anything that you are okay with, I am too!" Meanwhile, with her hands on the railing, she already was testing the foot pedals a little, hearing the satisfying register sound. Seemed like she was more than eager to start!
Flicking through the list, they settled, or rather he asked about it and she enthusiastically nodded, on a rather generic rock song that he had occasionally heard on the radio. It seemed easy enough.
The song started playing, the screen jumped to a split screen for the both of them as a countdown started flashing in rhythm. Then arrows. Many many arrows! And quite fast too! It seriously caught Izuku off guard at first, not hitting the first few inputs, leaving him to struggle to get back into the rhythm for a few moments before he finally got a hang of it, just in the knick of time before the health bar on top of his screen fell to zero.
Quickly he started to realize why there was a railing behind the platform. Holding onto it, it was a lot easier to quickly move your feet since you didn't have to move all of your weight to step on the buttons. It felt like at times it was otherwise downright impossible to move quickly enough. Leaning back more and more, he was practically sitting on it as he fought to make not too many mistakes.
By the time the song was over, he had started working up a bit of a sweat, feeling his breath deepening a little already. He really didn't expect that this game, and particularly this song, was so intense...
"Oh, that was fun!" Toga announced from the side, standing there with a positively elated expression on her face. Sure, she too had worked up a bit of sweat running down her brow, but she seemed to take to this much quicker than Izuku.
Still left a little bit breathless, Izuku looked over to this excited bundle of energy that Toga currently was and just offered. "Want to try a song on your own?"
He was not sure if that was okay with her. After all, she seemed somewhat insistent before doing things together. But as worried as he might be that she was not going to like it, it seemed like she was quite open to the idea.
Finger against her chin, she scrolled to the different songs. For a moment there was a wordless silence as the different song previews blared from the speakers. It took her a little, hovering over one particular song before she shook her head and moving on.
"What would you like to see me dance to?" she asked after a few more moments of scrolling around aimlessly.
Izuku was taken aback for a moment. That simply sounded so wrong. Somewhat suggestive even. There was a bit of excitement bubbling up inside of him and in equal, maybe bigger, parts shame for even thinking of it in that way.
"Uhm... I... no idea." He more-or-less blurted out before taking a good look at the screen again. There were a bunch of good songs, of course, but it seemed like she had put all the way of the decision onto him, as if it was his enjoyment that mattered. And that made him feel weird all over again.
"How about you try that one?" He sugged rather meekshily as he scrolled to the song in question for her, earning him a grin and a wink as she pressed the button to select the song and stood up straight again, hands going away from the railing and instead straight away from her body while cooing:
"Watch me closely, Izu~!" just when the song started up its into and the first arrows started to appear on screen.
So he did. He watched as she put on a concentrated pout and started stepping around, dancing about on the little dance square square provided. Watching the many hits and the few misses, but most importantly, he was watching her.
There were a few things that occurred to him in that moment: For one, Toga was actually pretty cute. Somehow in his guts he had of course always known it. However, normally his brain was so occupied by the danger she exuded, that the thought that he could feel himself getting drawn to her somehow did not register.
But now that he could see it this obviously: A girl so excitable, so energetic.... he couldn't help but stare a little, being drawn in by the way she danced around the platform. A few more thoughts were going through to his. A few more things that he could neither describe nor put into words, while the song was coming to its last beats. A few more steps and she was done, holding her balance on her toe tips as she waited for her score in eager anticipation.
Izuku felt the heat in his face rise out of nowhere. He could not quite place his finger onto why. Maybe the aftereffect of resting after dancing so much. The tingling in his belly told him almost immediately that he was lying to himself.
The screen flashed for a moment before displaying her score in bold letters. With a big grin on her face, she turned towards him, holding up her hands in victory. "Well, how did I do~?" She asked with cheeky confidence.
There was probably something smart to say in this situation, maybe something witty, but nothing would to his mind right now. He just felt the flush on his face rise further ,every part of his body pulling around his heart as if it was trying to try and stop it from growing three times just from looking at this girl.
Out of nowhere he suddenly felt like he was jerked back to reality harshly. Right, she was still waiting for his response, didn't she? Hastily looking at her score then back to her, he just blurted out: "Amazing!"
Probably a bit louder than necessary, but he preferred it over letting her sit in awkward silence even if he felt even more weird now.
"Well, that was fun. Come, Izuku, let's try some other games too!" Toga announced with a satisfied grin on her face. Walking over to him she expected her to just grab his arm and drag him off like had done before, but no... Holding out her hand she impatiently happened from one foot to the other.
Once more  their fingers entwined, the third time now... just that it felt different to the other two times for Izuku. This time it felt warmer, more... appreciated. Sure, there was still nervousness and the fact that there was a certain discomfort in the closeness, but it felt good to walk with her hand in hand.
"How often do you come to the mall?" Izuku asked after a few moments of quietly searching the next game they could enjoy together. He didn't really know why he asked. Did he want to see her more or less? Come here more often or avoid it altogether for safety...
"Whenever i have time and money. So not that often. If people see me anywhere too regularly, it would become too much of a hassle, so I am here sporadically." She explained surprisingly freely and casually. The implications... the situation she was in; none of that was lost on him right now.
For a moment, he thought of bringing it up to her more clearly but he decided against it. He already understood; there was no point for asking for any further clarification.
"Any other places you usually go to?" He inquired instead, stopping in front of a puzzle game, looking at it with interest for a moment before moving on. He was in company. Not the time for a puzzle game.
"There is this burger restaurant somewhere on the edge of the mall... I have been there only once, but... the burgers there were so good. Really juicy too~ It was also nice and dim there, so I could stay around for a bit longer instead of just having to stop and go as fast as I could."
Izuku had known before that she was excitable, but this was just a bit different. Mostly, because what they were having right now was an actual, real conversation. Not some kind of play pretend. No mother would believe that she was his girlfriend or anybody else. Just her talking about something she liked to him.
"Haven't been there before..." He replied, a gentle smile sneaking onto his lips. "Maybe..."
That was about as far as he got with his words, with his thoughts. A loud cry disturbed the two, the sound of a tiny body dropping onto the floor. Izuku instantly started looking around. It didn't take long for him to find the source of those noises. To his left, right in the middle of a crossway a little boy had thrown himself onto the ground in frustration, his whole body quaking as he tried to keep the wailing inside, even if it seemed like it could burst out at any moment.
Without losing even a moment of thought about it, he was by the boy's side, one hand gently on his back. It was clear the toddler couldn't hold it any longer. Tears streamed down that tiny face, his mouth twitched all the way down and just before the bawling began, he started reaching to the closest thing for comfort... which in this case was, of course, Izuku.
Clinging to him like a little monkey, couldn't help but pick him up, consoling by stroking him gently over his head, rocking him gently while he tried to make him as comfortable as possible. Looking back at Toga, he found an unreadable expression on her face, her golden eyes seemingly having gone twice as wide as before, observing him and the boy close... to an uncomfortable degree. Honestly, he just hoped that he didn't just piss her off by suddenly jumping into action.
"I want my mommy!!!" The cry went off right next to his ear like a bomb. He knew that no matter what, that this kid demanded his full attention right now and no was not an answer anymore. An apologetic glance towards the girl he started patting the boy's back while rocking him up and down gently.
"Hey, hey... it's okay. Can you tell us where your mom might be?" Izuku asked calmly over the constant "Weh!" that was seemingly overshadowing every other sound in the arcade. Again he tried to repeat his question but he couldn't get a single bit of info out of the boy. At least until...
"I think I found something..." he felt somebody tugging at his shirt, drawing his attention away from the toddler. Once more he was looking at those wide, golden eyes, with no idea how to read what was happening behind them. But her gaze made him follow hers, down to the belt of the boy.
A small shield was attached there, a number handwritten onto it with a small message: "Hello, my name is Chonchi. I've lost my mom. Please call at this number:"
WHat a smart mother! Also probably meant, that this was probably not the first time this happened. Still, an easy solution to their problem!
"Great job, Toga!" he praised her, a wide, beaming smile on his face. "Can you call her for me, while I try to keep him calm?"
The corners of her mouth twitched lightly, not as much as he was to though. Shaking her head though, she explained: "Can't. I don't have my phone on me." Still showing that puzzling expression.
"Oh, no problem. You can use mine. It's in my left pocket." He explained turning the side towards her while she just wordlessly nodded. A little bit of eye contact, her expression changed back to that wide, toothy grin and a twinkle of mischief shone through her eyes as she reached for his phone.
The moment he felt her touch on the inside of his pocket he realized how strange what he said was. The twinkle of mischief had told him as much, honestly. Just for that moment his hero attitude wavered, giving for the part of him that was still a teenage boy that just offered a girl, he just found out was really, really cute, rummaging in his pocket for his phone... and she actually went for it.
The fact that she was taking longer than necessary just made his blood rough through his body even faster. Despite the toddler blaring and screaming at full lungs right next to his ear, his focus was entirely absorbed by the subtle touch against his thigh, the rush of his heat and the tingle that exploded from every single spot up into his belly.
While Toga successfully pulled out his phone, all he could do was stand there, mechanically rocking the boy up and down, aping the notion of trying to calm the child down. His mind, however, lingered on the feeling in his stomach. On the one hand, he definitely liked maybe this went too far... on the other hand, fireworks and volcanoes were the orchestra in his guts to the rapid drumming of his heart.
In the meantime, Toga had started fumbling with his phone. Maybe a little longer than he expected. With a concentration expression on her face she pushed on the screen as she struggled to make a call with it, it seemed.
"If you swipe to the right in the lock screen, it should give you a number pad." Izuku explained after a few more moments, earning him an atypical sweet smile. With that figured out she hammered in the number and pressed the phone against her ear, looking at him in awkward anticipation, while he tried to keep the toddler as quiet as he could.
"Yes? Hello, we have a toddler here, with your number on his belt... yes... of course... yes... yes... no, no problem.... yes... yes, we can go there." So it seemed like Toga was very decent at handling the phone call, her expression imitating somebody with a lot more maturity than either of them had. Mouth pulled down and brows pulled up with a polite smile finishing the look.
If the situation would have been different he might have found that amusing. Like that he was more so occupied bouncing in place while he watched her finish the call, eager to figure out what had been said on the other side of the line.
With a little sigh, she finally put the phone down, looking right at him before explaining: "The mom is going to wait at the claw machine cause they apparently are at an easy to spot location because they are one end of the arcade hall."
She made a short pause, eye contract unbroken still as she raised the phone back up. "Do you want me to hold onto it for the time being or do you want me to stuff it back in?"
Instantly he felt blood rush into his head, like steam was going to explode from his ears. Not only because he realized how much she was clearly flirting with him, but she pretty much confirmed that she noticed how much getting the phone had gotten to him.
"I-if you... you could hold onto it... I would... I would really appreciate that." he managed to stutter awkwardly, feeling like his collar was suddenly a tad bit too tight. Somehow she seemed happy about that response. But with that out of the way he turned to leave, looking for the claw machine... maybe also just trying to change the topic.
Going through the rows of machines for a little, it seemed like Toga quickly got tired of just walking next to Izuku. Not even though that kid was still crying tears and snot into his shoulder, that would not stop her from being close to him. Even if he had no hand free, she could still hook herself under his arm, leaning onto him as much as possible.
He could feel how much she was pushing him. It was pretty clear that was getting into his comfort zone, whichever way she could think of without scaring him off or getting the child to become even louder. Honestly, he did not really really know when she would overstep his limits. Conflicting emotions... on the one hand, it was uncomfortable , on the other, incredibly exhilarating, incredibly intimate like wading together through the dark, seeing when they would finally hit a wall. At what point did she push too far? Not even himself knew.
However, true enough, the claw machines were really not hard to find. Basically just walking away from the entrance the whole time made him find a whole row of them on the wall. Now, it was just a question of either finding the mom or waiting for her right there.
"At least, he stopped crying" Toga mentioned somewhat dryly, still clinging to Izuku's arm while looking at the kid with his whole face sunk against his shoulder, small hands bunched up around the cloth of his shirt. ONly an occasional hiccup showed that the kid had not fallen asleep.
"He probably had to get all that out of his system. Now he just tired." Izuku guessed, still occasionally rocking him lightly up and down, although he had to admit his arms started to ache somewhat from carrying the toddler around. But he didn't want to risk stirring the kid up by putting him down somewhere.
"We kinda look cute this way, aren't we?" Toga asked after a few too many minutes of waiting, having changed to leaning more so against one of the plastic boxes, hands crossed behind her back while she impatiently shifted her weight around heels. Clearly, that was getting boring very quickly to her.
"What do you mean?" he followed up, standing there attentively looking out for a woman that looked somehow similar to the kid in his arms, maybe somebody that looked a bit more distressed. Admittedly, he got a little bit bored, so talking with Toga was more than welcomed. Now, if only the first words coming from her mouth wouldn't immediately turn his cheeks bright red.
"Oh you know, when we were walking... me on one arm and a child in the other. Like a teenager that went too far too quickly but they stuck it out together either way." She explained herself, with her hands suddenly bashfully pressed against her cheeks, framing her face. Somehow he had the feeling that she was teasing him... and well, it was working. Then again, there was a light bit of red on her face, making him wonder if that was something she was actually fantasising about... that he did not know how to feel about.
"I-if you say so..." was the only thing he reasonably could respond to this. Well, despite everything it was still Toga. He better kept that in mind, even if that image of her was shifting even as they just stood there.
"I think I am seeing someone" she interrupted his thoughts before he could come to any kind of conclusion. Following her gaze, the woman really jumped out to him too, now that he had seen her. A rather small woman, pushing herself through the crowd, bouncing up and down as she tried to look over the shoulders of the people in front of her to orientate herself... somehow she reminded Izuku of his own mother a little bit.
As she came closer and closer, the reason for this whole mishap became quite clear, quite quickly. Pulled along by her was another child, maybe a year or two older than what he presumed was the sibling of the toddler he was holding. It did not much to imagine the situation of one kid going one way and the other staying behind or walking the other way... probably the nightmare of any parent, but unfortunately somewhat unavoidable at times.
The moment she spotted the teens she hurried over to them, while they were just waving and (at least Toga) jumping up and down to make sure she could not miss them. The exchange afterwards was quick and painless. The mother thanked them and apologized for bothering them by not looking after her child properly, before they slowly pried the now sleeping kid off of Izuku's shoulder before they could part ways.
"Well, that was something..." Toga noted, the moment the little family was out of earshot, her expression having gone from polite girl to something... a bit more annoyed. It kinda just occurred to Izuku, that she was cooperative to the whole affair way more because of him, than because of her own drive. Something that he was not sure how to feel about, but something deep down basically seemed to either gloss over the fact or forgave her immediately.
"Yup... definitely... So what now?" he asked, rolling his aching shoulder a little bit. Not a good day for his favorite pair of joints.
"We are already here, aren't we?" She noted, the happy energy from before quickly returning to her as she nodded over her shoulder towards the claw machines. "You could make this a proper date and get me something, Izu~"
And there she went and said out loud, what was quietly the undercurrent of this whole thing. Yep, this was a date alright. It might have started out somewhat weirdly but it was a date without doubt. Even if it left him suddenly holding his breath as if she was going to say "Just kidding" at any moment now.
But the "just kidding" didn't come. So he was left there, standing in the realization that this was his first proper date with any girl as he turned towards the many, many claw machines behind them. Rows of toys and plushes lining the area.
"Anything in particular you want?" he resolved himself to ask, feeling tingly all over as he realized he basically just admitted to date now fully, without any wiggle room for just making it "an accidental meeting" or anything of sorts. No, this was implicitly and explicitly a date.
"Hmmm..." she hummed looking through the row of boxes before pointing. "How about that one?" She asked, with a grin, pointing towards a plush of an orange cat with golden eyes. Honestly, he wondered why that didn't jump out to him immediately as well.
"... al-alright then." he stepped closer to the machine, letting the card charge the points. "Wish me luck... i guess?" Somewhere in the back of his head, he knew he was starting to behave weirdly. On the other hand. He really had not much control over it. There was so much to process at once the moment, she got a bit more explicit. Of course, he should not be surprised given their other interactions, but... he was agreeing to it right now. That was the part that really threw him for a loop.
With a lot of jingles, the machine came to life, the claw started to move... With a deep breath, Izuku started to concentrate, carefully pressing the buttons while he tried to commit himself to the task at hand. Maybe that could banish the whirlwind going through his head at that moment. At least momentarily...
Maybe it was better that he did. After all, claw machines were... something. Incredibly difficult, unpredictable, sometimes moving in ways that you would not expect and other descriptors of that likeness; with a big frown on his face he had made several attempts to get that golden eyed cat, while Toga was casually coming closer and closer, softly cheering him on from the side.
"Almost got it~! Next time you get it for sure." She purred into his ear until finally, with his fingers starting to feeling kinda tingly, he started to make promises to her encouragement. The claw finally had hooked itself into one of the paws, slowly dragging it upwards, slowly carefully. With shaky motions it was slowly hovering itself towards the reward chute.
Thunk, click, clack... at this point, Izuku already had started to relax. The cat dropped down, the sensor opened the chute and there it was! This had been way more stressful than he had expected from such a silly little machine. Who made them this difficult? This was stupid!
"You did it! You did it!" he heard from the side as he felt a pair of arms wrapping tight around his chest, pulling him close, a warm embrace mixed with the sudden up and down as Toga was bouncing in place. And there it rushed all back into him.
There was only so much distraction could do to let you ignore the fact that your heart was beating up your throat, the fact that all the time a cold sweat was trying to contain the heat that was rushing through your entire body and the butterflies that were flying around your belly in a rapid frenzy. Honestly, he did not even mind it that much. There was a dopey smile on his face as he bounced a little bit with her, just as there was a healthy sum of fear of the feelings that were boiling up in him.
With shaky hands, he reached into the machine and carefully pulled out the stuffed toy like it was a prized treasure. It was really just a simple thing, but it was something he had seen in movies, something he had glanced at when passing the TV, or what he read in mangas while he was trying to act like romance was not that interesting to him, when he was in that age... and now he was doing that himself.
Maybe he was overthinking this, of course, but honestly, he could not stop thinking about these things when he turned towards the blond haired girl that had started conjuring all this up for him.
"F-for you..." he said with the biggest case of "speaking before thinking" as he held the orange cat out for her.
Toga just replied with a big grin on her face, her eyes softening from their usual expression to a gentle expression he had not really seen on her before. Gently she hugged it, pressing it against her cheek and let the softness grace her skin. For a moment, she was focused on that feeling before she looked back to Izuku, stepping closer.
"Thank you, Izu~" she purred into his ear as she leaned so close her mouth was right next to his ear, before turning slightly to press a kiss onto his cheek.
He thought he knew what fires could rage in his body. He thought he knew how his blood could boil. He thought he knew hard everything in the body could squeeze together... but nothing quite could have prepared him for the onstorm of what just happened. He went stiff in a second, every muscle tensed, color shot up into his head so fast he had no idea that was even physically possible while his heart felt like it was leaping out of his chest, green sparks suddenly flying for a split second... Any more and he probably would have jumped through the roof of the building, catapulted by the sudden explosion going off in his heart.
"S-so what e-else would you want to do?" For the third time, he tried the tactic of distracting himself, but... already he could tell he was not exactly working. His hand traced his cheek again and again, making his whole body shiver at that memory that was burning itself into his brain permanently.
"Mmmh, don't know. Let's look around!" The simplest answer from her. Fingers locked together and time became a whirl. Flashing colors, moving pieces and so many more things that made his head spin. Toga did know how to press his buttons, to keep him on edge with the way she was keeping to him, and keeping him paying attention to her, no matter how much he shied away from it at first.
When the time came for it to stop, he already felt lightheaded. In a great many ways, he was exhausted, but at the same time brimming with energy. But the clock didn't lie... finishing the last game, he confirmed that the numbers on the screen  of his phone were indeed showing the correct time.
"I think I need to go..." he announced in a weird voice. Suddenly he felt... deflated. Reality slowly had found its way back into his head. There was a world outside of these games and a place where the fact that he was standing peacefully next to Toga would have raised more than a few eyebrows. A world, where this cute girl next to him was a coldblooded killer. And it was not like he did not know that. It just came back to him at this very inopportune time.
"Awww, well, I should probably go too. The others probably already wondered what I am up to." And it sounded so normal, if it wasn't for the fact, that the 'others' were the most dangerous group of terrorists and villains in the country. So what to do from there? Should he do something, probably, but... there was a certain weight on his heart about that.
"So... yeah..." What should he say to her now? Goodbye? See you around? Until next time? All of these seemed terribly morbid all of the sudden. Maybe he should do that anyways, just to not ruin the mood completely? The fact that there was a switch inside of him, that flicked so quickly from euphoria to anxiety somewhat worried him.
"I had a lot of fun today, Izu~" she started out, gently drawing close to him, arms stretched out already to him. "Maybe one day, we will be able to repeat it."
With that she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a hug, something she hesitantly reciprocated. This was, not that bad really. It just felt all kinds of weird right now. Although he had to admit, the cat plush that was currently pressing into the small of his back, was so much more preferable to the knives, to the toy gun... It was much softer. And somehow his mind latched onto that a little.
"Yeah maybe." he answered with his voice feeling weirdly heavy. Toga grinned her typical grin, from one ear to the other with mischief written all over her face as they parted, giving him a small wave. And as soon as  he blinked... she was gone. He could not quite tell how she did it, but she had stepped into the crowd and disappeared completely.
Somehow the room, despite all the people he was surrounded by, suddenly felt strangely lonely. Once again he looked down at the clock on his phone... yeah it was time. Maybe, when he was back with his friends, this little pit in his heart would disappear... And with that he navigated back to their meeting point.
