I managed to wrangle my brain enough to read ONE (1) book, wrow!
Anyway, here are some attempts of drawing The Tombs of Atuan era Sparrowhawk from Earthsea.

tenar is actually so funny for trapping one of the only men she’s ever met in her labyrinth, falling in love with him so hard it successfully deprograms her from a millennia old cult, and then taking his virginity like 30 years later

The Tombs of Autan, Earthsea - Ursula K. Le Guin.
A short comic from The Tombs of Autan when Arha first sees the light in the tombs and Sparrowhawk for the first time.

I know someone on tumblr already said this but like
It really is so funny in Tombs of Atuan when Tenar is having a complete fucking breakdown, crying that the gods are dead and Ged is just like
"oh don't worry, they're not dead! In fact they're actively trying to kill me right this very second. 🙂 Hope that helps!"

The Priestess of the Tombs of Atuan
Tumblr media
"There are rooms underneath the Hall, underneath the whole Place, under where we stand now. There's a great maze of tunnels, a Labyrinth. It's like a great dark city, under the hill. Full of gold, and the swords of old heroes, and old crowns, and bones, and years, and silence." She spoke as if in trance, in rapture. Manan watched her. His slabby face never expressed much but stolid, careful sadness; it was sadder than usual now. "Well, and you're mistress of all that," he said. "The silence, and the dark." "I am."

also the way ged ties his soul/fate to tenar’s… I already mentioned the line about the amulets “so you now have my half, and I have yours” which has some pretty overt symbolism & mirrors marriage vows, but also the line “you could keep me a slave, and be a slave; or set me free, and come free with me” as ged saying there is no third option where one goes free and the other stays behind like they are doing it together or not doing it at all which is CRAZY of him…

“She had stopped and was standing still. Grey, not black. A dull edge of pallor, just visible, where all must be black.
She took a few steps forward and put out her hand to that angle of the tunnel wall; and, infinitely faint, saw the movement of her hand.
She went on. This was strange beyond thought, beyond fear, this faint blooming light where no light had ever been, in the inmost grave of darkness. She went noiseless on bare feet, black-clothed. At the last turn of the corridor she halted; then very slowly took the last step, and looked, and saw.”
- Ursula K. Le Guin, The Tombs of Atuan
I had so much fun making this! Reading the Earthsea books for the first time and I just fell in love with the Ged and Tenar and the world, I had to make some art! Process [X]
