People are arguing about Jurian kind of makes me laugh. Any and all arguments at this point make me laugh because it's been so freakin' long, does SJM even remember who Jurian IS?
'Tamlin's Redemption Arc'! Do you hear yourself?
Gwyn. Schwyn. Do you even think she remembers who that is?
We'd be lucky if she can write an Elain book! and Elain is an Archeron.
I am not even positive she remembers most of the ACOTAR characters outside of her beloved Rhys, Az and Nesta.
She'll probably just kill off Mor, not to deal with her. The last time she actually wrote an ACOTAR book was at least 5 years ago, maybe longer. Because ACOSF was PUBLISHED almost 4 years ago. So the writing was at least a year prior. We are talking before the 2020s. 2018? 2019?
It's a long time. LONG time.
Like, let's not argue about Gwyn. Or Jurian as Elain's Best Friend. Or LOA and Helion breaking the bond. Or fixing the bond. Or whatever.
Think about all of this rationally.
It's been a long ass time for SJM. As long as it's been for us, it's been even longer for her. By her own admission she has a crappy memory. So, I am gonna be honest, please stop re-reading TOG searching for Gwynriel hints. Please stop hoping for Tamlin's redemption arc. Please forget the House of Wind Gang!
Whatever the next book will be, it's not what we think.

I’m not sure if Aelin/TOG gang will show up in CC3 or the next ACOTAR book(s), but if the rumors are true about sjm’s next series, Twilight of the Gods, then I absolutely think she will incorporate TOG into it. I think Sarah might be brewing up something big. I once had a theory that Koschei, the Valg (a part of me believes they’re actually the Princes of Hel) and maybe the Asteri might be working together or the characters from ACOTAR and CC somehow travel to the TOG world because of a new threat. Something maybe like Avengers Endgame. I would like to see the TOG characters again. I feel like we should have a novella on them, especially Manon and Dorian.
I don’t think Sarah having Aelin fall through Prythian where she saw Rhys and Feyre was for nothing. Also, I feel like the Valg might be making a reappearance. Orcus and Mantyx are still alive somewhere. I want to know just how powerful and dangerous Orcus (some believe he might be Prince Aidas) is since he’s the most powerful Valg King. Same with Koschei, just how bad is he…I think we might get major a character death(s) in the crossover. Random, but do you think it’s possible the Rhys might have Valg blood in him? I think he’s supposed to look like Dorian and Manon has Valg blood in her, but there’s others who think Rhys might be related to Maeve. Also, Erawan can create & control darkness, use darkness to teleport and cannot be sensed by others, kinda sounds like Azriel. Not saying that they’re the same person, but I don’t believe Azriel is fully Illyrian, I think somewhere in his bloodline he has High Fae blood. So sorry for the long ask!
I actually wouldn't mind if the Valg show up again because they creeped me out and the villains in ToG felt way more convincing and effective than anything in acotar so far, or cc. The Asteri have potential, I will admit. But the Valg, Maeve, and the other dudes from her world actually felt like a formidable threat.
I think that regarding Rhys having Valg blood or being related to Maeve, anything is possible, and maybe it's just my deep desire to NOT have the series that closely connected, but it would depend on the timeline. Are these series happening around the same time? The signs point to yes, since Rhys saw Aelin. It's possible that ToG happened in the past, but even if that weren't the case, Maeve is super old, and potential for offspring leading to Rhys isn't out of the question.
It honestly all feels like we are shooting in the dark until we get some of these issues resolved in HOFAS. Like I could say, "perhaps Orcus is the elder brother of Koschei, and we will find out that all fae in the acotar world are the result of Maeve having sex with an Illyrian and *genetics*" and no one could prove me wrong? haha it's just... the options are endless.
I think that - and this is my honest opinion - whatever sjm needs to write so that certain characters bang, that's what she will make happen. If Rhys being related to Maeve means that Bryce and Hunt get reunited, then that's what she would do. If Orcus showing up in HOFAS helped her get another pair screwing and mated, she would do it. It seems like she is having fun with this, but not taking a super intellectual approach. And that's fine! It's not a criticism, just a comment on her style. Like you mentioned Avengers, and she's mentioned that as being fun and a cool moment she wanted with the crossover. I personally don't think it's any deeper than that, than her thinking "this sounds fun, I'm going to do it". I think that this fandom thinks about these things more than she does.
I do wonder if re: similarities between characters in different series, it's more a question of sjm just having a style and us starting to recognize the patterns. it would be super easy for her to make connections between these characters after the fact, but I'm always a bit suspicious of the idea that she's being intentional ahead of time, especially when she herself has said in interviews that she doesn't outline and lets the story take her where it will. imo people attribute a lot of intentionality to her writing that just isn't actually there.

ok i just finished my maasverse catch up last week and have been seeing a lot of theories about the various timelines/worlds etc etc and i’m trying to parse through my thoughts on it all and this is my initial reaction to tide myself over until the red string and cork board i ordered comes in. spoilers below
so far the idea that makes the most sense, even though personally i dislike it, is that midgard is erilea ages in the future. while the posts i’ve seen give a lot of good evidence to back this up i don’t love the theory because
a) it would mean that after everything they went through, ultimately the TOG crew and/or their progeny just…succumb to the asteri? just like that?? off screen in the distant past??? imo bad world building but also
b) unless i’m misunderstanding something, the asteri/daglan introduce fae-shifters (ie, the TOG fae) to this world, they’re not already there. i think it’s pretty reasonable to believe that when it’s said that the existing species on the planet didn’t sustain the asteri, SJM really did mean the humans and their limited magic.
c) (and this is the big one) obviously the triad symbolism is a big part of these series. the three faces of the goddess, the three stars/mountains, theia splitting her star into three, elena’s three circle symbol, three valg princes, three archerons/bat boys, etc. you guys get the gist. after all that it just feels silly/sloppy for the story to end up being two different worlds and one is the same world that just so happens to take place in a different time. it just doesn’t have a nice ring to it (but also lbr, as much as i love SJM sloppy world building isn’t out of the realm of possibility lmao)
so while there’s always the possibility that the triad here is that all of these stories are just taking place at three different times, not three different worlds, I almost think it’s more possible that each of the three TOG/ACOTAR/CC locations are three individual but interlocking worlds that are tied together more than any of the many other worlds we know exist. like three sister worlds, or three worlds at different points in a cycle, like the witches’ goddess. echoes of each other but different.
imo it could explain the similar climates/geographical structures we know about, even a reason why there was maybe even more back and forth between the worlds/times than we realize, if some kind of travel between them was figured out pre-asteri.
a big thing i think it could also explain is the thin places that are in each of the worlds. in CC3 when silene is talking about her creation of the tunnels under the mountain or when helena is doing the same in avallen, neither of them are creating the the mountain/island itself. that already seems to exist, they’re just creating the space underneath it, which seems to imply that these are naturally existing touch points to other worlds.
really, i’m just preparing to be disappointed that the TOG gang takes a backseat in any future overlaps, becoming to everyone else what elena and gavin were to them. but even then i’ll hold out hope for time fuckery!!! bring them back sarah, i’m begging
i’m sure i’ll be back spouting nonsense the more i think about this/as i realize i forgot some key part that totally debunks this

Think it's a good idea to translate this on your blog for insights purposes on reffing and the refs interplay with players and coaches. It's a rare special coverage on a workday for a main ref. The ref in focus is Tess Olofsson who'll join Swewnt at the World Cup this summer, she just won't be sharing pitch with them. She's a full time ref who refs in Damallsvenskan and in men's elite football in both top tiers. If she looks familiar it's maybe because Sportbladet followed her during the physical tests before this season. But probably mostly because she red carded Ingle in the CL match vs Atletico Madrid the other year or so for a clear goal chance interference.
Btw love the photo of when a Hammarby player gets in the middle of the refs warm up 😂
translation below
"It's careless - she doesn't stand a chance"
That's how a match day is for a referee - Sportbladet hung out with Tess Olofsson in the summit
16.00) Briefing
The heat of May is on and in the sunshine along the Ringvägen on Södermalm, Tess Olofsson comes walking.
Nine hours earlier, the experienced judge woke up at home in Hortlax outside Piteå, left his daughter at preschool and left for Luleå to catch the flight down to Stockholm.
Olofsson sits down on a bench in a cafe near Hammarby IP.
In three hours, it's kick-off in the women's Swedish league between Hammarby and Rosengård, two teams going for the SM gold. Olofsson will referee the football World Cup this summer and the match is one of her last before the summer's big championships.
She is the first of the judging team, which today consists of the assistant judges Alisa Levälampi and Tilde Larsson, the fourth judge Adli Assali and the trainee Moa Wettby, who will take Assali's back during the evening.
One by one, the rest of the judging gang arrives. They greet each other and Olofsson and Assali go into the cafe and order food.
As the head referee, there are often different faces you referee with from match to match and the briefing is very much about the "lingo", how they should express themselves to each other.
It is better to talk too much than too little.
- If you have a gut feeling, think out loud. It helps me make decisions at the right time, says Olofsson, while taking a bite of her focaccia.
The fourth judge Assali sits with a toast in his hand. He highlights that Hammarby IP is a special arena to be in as the audience is close and so are the players' benches.
- It is challenging in this arena because the benches hear a lot of what I say, he says.
Several examples of situations from previous matches are highlighted. "This happened in that match and then it was the wrong decision, this happened in another match and then it was the right decision" - and so on.
The briefing lasts about half an hour.
- It will be a lot of fun. It will be a tough match, but we hope for a large crowd, concludes Tess Olofsson.
17.03) Walk to the arena
The referees walk the roughly five-minute walk to the arena, but on the way there they need to stop. They are dressed in private clothes and it is not easy when you arrive at the arena. In a courtyard in a residential area, they each quickly pick out identical white t-shirts and change.
It must be seen that it is the judges who are on their way.
17.50) Plan inspection
Tess Olofsson usually wants to be at the arena at least an hour and a half before the start of the match. There is a part that needs to be arranged. The equipment must go through, everything must be in place and the plan must be inspected.
A little more than an hour before the start of the match, the referees look out onto the field and at one of the goals you immediately notice an error.
The net is not tight enough at one cross bar, there is some air between the goal frame and the net and it needs to be fixed. The risk is small, but should a ball find its way there, it will be difficult to know whether it has gone inside or outside the goal frame.
On the whole, however, everything is as it should be.
On his way off the field, Viaplay's Claes Andersson, who will comment on the match, comes forward. He asks about a situation in a match he has commented on before, with another referee, and wants a referee's opinion on the situation in question.
The referees enter the dressing room. They don't have very many square meters to share, but it can be done. On the table next to the wall are cinnamon rolls, water, coffee, bananas and a stack of papers with the lineups lined up.
Tess Olofsson barely has time to start a line of reasoning before a distinct knock is heard on the door. It is referee observer Peter Vesterholm who comes in to say hello.
He is an important figure during the day as he is the one who assesses the performance of the judges. He will sit up in one of the booths in the arena and constantly hear the judges' communication. Afterwards, he must write a report, which is usually around three to four A4 pages, and grade the judges' efforts.
18.18) Warm-up
The judges change, but time is tight. They get to rap and come out on the pitch a few minutes after the game.
Tess Olofsson and the assistant referees stand in the middle of the pitch. There is jogging, high knees and stretching.
One who doesn't warm up is fourth referee Assali. He and intern Moa Wettby stand on the sidelines to observe and check that everything is as it should be along the sidelines and at the teams' benches.
The judges warm up for about 20 minutes. The sun has been shining during the warm-up and Olofsson wipes the sweat from his forehead on his way into the dressing room.
The judges exhale, come into focus and check that the communication equipment is working properly.
The referee shirts go on, really orange.
- At least you can see us properly with these on. But they are better than the yellow ones, then you look a bit like a "chicken", says Olofsson.
Hammarby's coach Pablo Pinones Arce comes by and greets the judges and wishes them luck.
Now there is feverish activity in the judge's room. The final preparations are in full swing. The assistant referees tape their flags, the lineups are checked and the cards are looked at, some will be handed out during the match.
Tess Olofsson says a few last words before it's time to go out to the players' corridor, 18.52, eight minutes before the start of the match.
- Are you ready my friends? Here we go!
19.00) Match start
In front of around 2,000 spectators at Hammarby IP, Tess Olofsson kicks off the match - and it will be a fun start.
Rosengård takes an early lead when national team player Olivia Schough finds the right spot in the seventh minute.
An early cold shower for the home team who, however, want the chance from eleven meters just a few minutes after the lead goal. Left-back Jonna Andersson falls in the penalty area and the Hammarby players strike out with their arms and the crowd roars.
They want a penalty, but Tess Olofsson is determined.
- No no no! I think she is looking for that one, says Olofsson in the communication with the rest of the judges.
The game continues and in the 22nd minute comes the next event of greater dignity. Rosengård's Emilia Larsson, who last season played in Hammarby, goes hard on Julia Roddar.
Too hard.
- Nian, come, Olofsson shouts to Larsson and warns her.
- She is great. We have warning on number nine. It's careless, she has no chance on the ball there, she explains to the rest of the judging team.
The first half is otherwise a relatively good story - but a lot happens. Hammarby scores two quick goals at the end of the half and takes a 2–1 lead.
Adli Assali alerts:
- Ten seconds left, he says.
- Four... that's full time. Half time!
19.49) Half time
Tess Olofsson blows for a break. Emilia Larsson is there quickly and wants to talk about the yellow card.
- I understand that, but I just think it was really late with a hip attack in the stomach, says Olofsson to Rosengårdsspelaren.
The judges recharge with new energy. Tess Olofsson sips water, Tilde Larsson eats a banana and they talk briefly through the bigger situations. Among other things, the penalty situation and the yellow card.
- I see it from the left and both are holding each other and the striker is a little off balance and falls, says Olofsson.
20.04) Second half
Olofsson blows the whistle and starts the second half.
Early in the half, a situation with a potential head injury arises when Rosengård's Emilia Larsson falls over.
She grabs her head, but Hammarby's attack continues despite everything.
- No, no, no, I think she's going to bed, says Olofsson.
- Head injury, blow Tess off, says Assali.
- I didn't think it was anything, says Olofsson.
- I think it was the back actually, says Assali.
The ball goes out for a kick-in and the game is called off.
After a while Assali says:
- Maybe we should have been smart and blown right away.
- Yes exactly. But it looked like she just laid down, says Olofsson.
Rosengård's bench is in front of fourth judge Assali and has views.
- We have to blow earlier, I agree. I'm not saying anything else, but you're absolutely right, says Assali to the representative from Rosengård.
There is no further danger for Emilia Larsson, she continues playing, but the refereeing team will discuss the situation further close to the final whistle.
The match rolls on and in the 63rd minute Rosengård equalizes through former Hammarby player Emma Jansson and the tie holds for a long time
In the 79th minute, fourth referee Assali calls Tess Olofsson's attention.
- Tess, I think you should warn the bench, he says.
There are a lot of protests on Rosengård's bench and Olofsson runs there and gives the visitors' coach Joel Kjetselberg a yellow card.
During the last quarter of an hour, Hammarby does not get very many decisions and it is heard that it is irritated in the stands. But otherwise the second half proceeds relatively painlessly – until the 90th minute.
Rosengård's Olivia Holdt falls into a situation with Hammarby's Simone Boye Sörensen and Olofsson points to the penalty spot.
The Hammarby players are not happy and the home supporters are not happy - but the decision remains.
- It is punishment and nothing else. Listen, the way I see it, she's off balance and knocking her down. That's why, says Olofsson to protesting Hammarby players.
Time passes.
Olofsson instructs the goalkeeper to stay on the line and the outfield players to stay behind the penalty area line.
Rosengård's star Olivia Schough puts the ball up on the penalty spot, well aware that she has the chance to give the visitors the win. But to the great happiness of the home team, Schough misses the penalty in extra time.
20.55) Final signal
A few minutes later the match is over.
The referees remain on the field and thank the players. 2-2 is a result that none of the gold-aspiring teams are happy with, which can be seen from the expressions on their faces.
Olofsson and the two assistant referees walk from midfield into the dressing room. On the way out to the players' corridor, shouts are heard from some disgruntled home supporters in the stands.
Once inside the corridor, Hammarby's coach Pablo Pinones Arce calls out to the referee team:
- Tell me when we can talk later.
Olofsson explains:
- Some coaches, and on occasion also players, can come in and discuss. Then you can have a dialogue immediately after the match, but for us it is difficult because we have not seen any video. The coach may have had time to check it but not us. The only thing we can do is describe what we have seen here and now.
On the whole, the judging team is satisfied afterwards.
They hug each other in the dressing room and a man from Hammarby comes in and wants to check the match statistics with Adli Assali.
The head injury at the start of the second half is addressed and analyzed.
- Maybe we should be smart and blow off immediately. I could have helped you with that because it's happening in front of me. Then there were attacks and then it became very difficult to blow off, says Assali.
- Right there I thought if I should blow but then number six has a shooting position at the penalty area and then it is not time to blow directly there. Then you understand, a head injury is a head injury..., says Olofsson.
- I told their doctor that he is absolutely right, we will blow.
The late penalty is also discussed.
- Now I'm very close to the situation, but I don't see a push on the defender, but see that she's late and brings down the attacker from my angle. Then you can go home and look and see from different camera angles whether it was the right decision or not, says Olofsson.
What do the Hammarby players say then?
- They do not think it is sufficient and do not want punishment in that situation. Sometimes players might rush at you but here they are very calm when talking to me so there is no reason to warn anyone of inappropriate behaviour. There was a good level of conversation
21.11) Rounding off
A distinct knock is heard on the door and the judges almost jump. It is Peter Vesterholm who comes in.
He is generally satisfied with the referees' performance and will talk through the match with the gang before he will later grade. But he already has a feeling about the outcome.
- I look at the computer and replays so I think I have a clear idea of the difficult situations, but I usually guard myself a little and want to see it later in the big picture, he says.
Vesterholm stays in the dressing room for a while before he leaves.
It's getting to be time for the judges to shower, change and unwind before they go their separate ways.
For Tess Olofsson, match day is over, but the job doesn't end just because of that. She will move back towards the hotel at Arlanda. The next day, she will travel home to Hortlax, but in addition to being on the road, the focus will be on recovery and, above all, a greater analysis of the referee's effort using various video sequences.
But it also applies to turning the page. On Friday, four days later, a new match and new verdicts await.

Honestly no. I think the TOG gang went through a lot and deserve peace. I want to think of Aelin being queen in Terrasen in peace rebuilding with Rowan and maybe enjoying their family with a child? No thanks. She can use the characters from Acotar and do what she wants with them but not Aelin or Tog in general
ToG mutuals (or non-mutuals), how do we feel about the possibility of Aelin showing up in CC3?? Because I'm still conflicted.

in the shower i also realized that there's almost no romance in TOG. nicky & joe have a few more relationship-focused scenes (van!) but they're an established couple and that's just a constant part of the background (headbonks etc). and andromache definitely has a lot of moments with quynh and that one scene with the drugstore employee (who's apparently important enough to get a name? maybe she'll return in part 2??).
but there's no romance involved in the plot, none of the will-they-won't-they, saving-the-damsel-as-flirting, none of the. idkyk? the platonic strength of the group is tested by the conflicts, and none of these bonds are...i'd almost say cheapened by romance.
i'm counting nicky & joe as one unit, since their relationship to one another barely affects the others and doesn't cause any tension to the plot, they're even abducted as a unit. if one was abducted and the other still free, their romantic relationship would serve as an additional drive for the rescue. instead, booker, nile & andy seek to rescue them because they're comrades in fate.
booker's betrayal and andy's quiet suffering only cause tension along (deep) platonic bonds, and nile doesn't choose to save the group because she's in love with any of them. that doesn't mean that they all have equal relationships with each other - nile is definitely closest to andy since andy recruited her, and andy and booker have a lot on interaction on-screen (though that might just be a cinematographic choice to highlight the contrast and similarities between them and furthermore, nicky & joe are completely removed from the other three for what, 40 minutes? andy should definitely be closer with them, given that she probably knew them for several centuries before booker joined the gang)
last but not least this also allows for the contrast between nile's unit sending her away for what's likely going to be the exact same horrible testing as the company did - to the point of packing her bags for her - and andy letting nile go, followed by nile voluntarily going back to save them, which includes assaulting the lab (and voluntarily entering it).
actually, hey, romantic relationships as a source of misery, from andy beating herself up over quynh to copley losing his wife to disease which motivates him to yeah i think i'd need to rewatch to formulate that one out sorry. also, again, nicky & joe
tldr something something pacific rim yadda yadda animorphs thank you for driving the (present day) plot through strong platonic relationships

TOG in SJMU (Sarah J Maas Universe)
A discussion if TOG would be included in SJM's future books. (CC2 spoilers!)
With how CC2 ended, we are now wondering if TOG would be included in the whole SJM crossover. I, personally, would love that. Like just imagine Aelin and Rhysand interacting !! Also the Cadre and the Inner Circle interaction ! Nesta and Manon ! Hunt, Rowan, and Rhysand interaction !
However there are some things that lessens the possibility of TOG being included in the crossover which also kind of ruins/complicates what already happend in the TOG plot.
1. TOG series is over.
- ACOTAR and CC series are still ongoing so it would be convenient and appropriate to merge the plots together. TOG on the other hand, is already over.
2. TOG main plot is eradicating the lock and key and banishing the Valg and gods.
- A lot of characters but mainly Aelin sacrificed and suffered just to obtain the lock which opens and closes the gates to the worlds to banish the otherworld creatures in their world (Valg and gods) and to prevent any future world-hopping or world invasion from other worlds. Aelin was even ready to die to lock the worlds just to keep her world safe she even lost most of her powers locking the worlds. That being said, if TOG would be included in any crossovers in the future, it would seem like Aelin's and other TOG characters' efforts were for nothing. Like just imagine Aelin and the gang were chilling in Erilea and suddenly the ACOTAR and/or CC characters barged in and informed them that their own respective worlds have their own version of the lock and key (the Horn in CC and possibly the Harp in ACOTAR) to open portals to other worlds and Aelin eradicating the lock and key was possibly for nothing. Aelin would probably be livid. Also, if TOG would be included in the main plot, Aelin would be doing what she did in TOG all over again which makes us question if TOG's final plot was futile.
I mean, I would love TOG crossover in CC or ACOTAR in the future but I think TOG has minimal potential to offer in the SJMU plot in general. Maybe a TOG crossover would be nice if let's say, the crossover didn't affect the plot greatly like they just met each other or something for a few pages compared to Bryce literally being teleported to Prythian.
Of course, there are a lot of details and connections in ACOTAR and CC that could be tied back in TOG and I would love how that would play out in the future books.
I just hope that if SJM would pull off an equivalent of MCU, it would be done well and done in consideration of many factors.
Given that I have read all of SJM's books and loved them, I have no doubt that whatever SJM does, it is for a reason and we would most definitely love what she has written.
Also, I'm so excited for CC3 and ACOTAR 5 and can't wait for how the plots would play out! Bryce being in Prythian and SJM books crossover is my dream come true!
How about you? What are your thoughts or theories of TOG potentially being included in SJM's future books or about how CC3 and ACOTAR 5 would play out? I would absolutely love to read your thoughts or theories in the comments and have a discussion!

I love rowaelin and would just gobble up anything SJM puts out there about them, but I personally don’t want them to be brought into the multi verse. They have been through TOO MUCH and just deserve some peace 😭
I didn’t watch the live (interview? Idk) so I’m not exactly sure what Sarah said about them but I just want her to let them be if that makes sense
omg don’t talk to me about that interview and that woman, i am pissed. no, for real please ask anything i’m just very very pissed at SJM💀
As for TOG, she said that "the doors to this world weren’t fully closed" and that she "misses rowan and aelin very much and also the whole TOG gang" and that "there were lots of other stories she wanted to tell in this world"
it honestly makes me more think of a Novella than the crossover. Maybe she finally decided to give us The World Of Throne of Glass… But that’s only what it makes me think of!
I’m also one of the few who isn’t against Rowan and Aelin in the Crossover 😂 I do want to see Elain/Rowan and Rhysand/Aelin interactions 😂 But only for help with the Wyrdmarks, as I’m pretty sure all the weird symbols in ACOTAR and CC are juste Wyrdmarks and only Rowan and Aelin can read them. SJM said the crossover was half of the book so I’m supposing that no one will be dragged in CC war, especially as she just confirmed that it would be the last CC book in her contract, but they will probably unite to get Bryce back into her book and also maybe give her some additional help with weapons and all? I don’t know to be honest

Zhayu lifeguard AU??? Happy birthday!🎉 🎉 🎉
Much thank!! I had a lot of fun with this one ngl, although how tf did it end up this long anyway (also it's kinda embarrassing but i had to look up bathing suits bc i remembered most of the world does not call them togs lmao):
When people learned that Yue had never learned how to swim, it was always accompanied by distinct embarrassment.
And why wouldn’t it be?
Her family had always been surrounded by water, be it in the form of beach houses or hobbies in surfing and the like. But truth be told, Yue had always been more of a fan of the stars than crashing, turbulent waves, or even the gentle lapping of water against the poolside.
So what on earth possessed her to come along to the gang’s pool day?
It had been an impulsive decision, she could admit that. Perhaps she felt she’d been missing excitement in her life, maybe she felt the need to fit in with the others. Even Toph had tagged along, and she was vehement about staying in the driest areas possible despite them being at a… well, pool.
Yue had decided to go on a walk by herself, simply to survey what the facility had to offer. She strayed along the edges of one of the outdoor pools, careful about not accidentally slipping and falling into the deep end.
The worrying was all for naught; a pair of boisterously yelling teens, pushing and shoving at each other, suddenly heavily knocked into her as they rushed past.
It felt like the next series of events happened in slow motion. Yue flailed, attempted to grip something, only to grasp at air instead, and then she was falling.
In a blur of sun, people, glittering waters, and the fading slap of footsteps of the perpetrators, Yue distantly registered a deep voice shouting over the thrum in her ears:
“Hey! No running around the pools!”
That was all Yue could recall before gravity took over. She hit the waters with a splash, choked on whatever breath had been caught in her throat, and promptly inhaled water instead. It was a mad scramble of panic and flurrying, scrabbling limbs, slowed in the water, as she attempted to claw her way up to the surface.
Only – her limbs were weighted, kicking and flailing uselessly in the cold (so cold) water. The sight of blurred mirages of people’s legs, swim trunks, bathing suits didn’t help at all. Why were her eyes even open?
Yue thought she heard a splash next to her, and then she was dragged to the surface in a stream of bubbles, a strong arm caught around her waist, bare skin pressed against her back.
It took a few minutes of hacking up a lung and several mouthfuls of water, but eventually Yue managed to blink back the blur of her vision to realize she was currently being stared at by everyone in the pool, she was limply lying back against what felt like a very firm chest, and the edge of the pool, which she could’ve grabbed, was a mere few feet away.
“You okay there, princess?”
The same deep voice she had heard before her descent into the pool sounded next to her ear. Slowly, with mortification steadily creeping up her neck, Yue turned around to look at her saviour.
She was greeted with the sight of a raised eyebrow, amber eyes, molten in the sunlight, and a decidedly unamused downturn of a mouth.
He was hot.
Shit.
She had made a complete, utter fool of herself in front of a hot guy.
“I’m – I’m fine. Thank you,” Yue said, cheeks burning from the humiliation of the entire spectacle.
“It’s my job,” Hot Guy replied flatly. “Let’s just not make this a habit and we’ll be fine, alright?”
“Right,” Yue said faintly, mumbling another thanks when the lifeguard guided her back out of the pool.
Where she then proceeded to stutter out yet another word of gratitude (was she overdoing it?) before scurrying away as fast as she could.
“Hey,” the lifeguard called after her, halting her in her plan to find a corner and scream. When she glanced over her shoulder, he smirked, amused, and wow, that was a much better look on him – “No running.”
A smile tugged at her own lips, and she walked off at a much more sedate pace, wondering how the others would feel about relocating to the outdoor pool.

Ngl, I actually would be interested in a Gwyn book, but if it became a Gwy*riel book I would hate it because it would have the same cliche as my NOTP from a different fandom would have; the “girl/guy pins for someone has feelings for someone else and also no interest in girl/guy at all”. SJM giving Gwyn a crush on Az is the only way I can see a story for Gwy*riel. I’m not saying the trope is always a disaster and people can’t change feelings, but I feel it would be pain to read for Gwyn and Az.
I'd read it if it explores her powers, maybe her heritage--though it's not my fave as a topic--and maybe her quest as a Valkyrie, and what she and the other two, plus all the other females who'd join can do with that and how it would influence the world.
I personally, in general, don't like any trope where the MC finds out that they are born into some super amazing powerful incredible bloodline which makes them amazing powerful and incredible in their own right. I don't like any bloodline related 'accomplishments' because they are so limiting to the reader. If you are going to achieve anything, I'd like to read how you, as Joe-shmoe do it. Not because you had some god as an ancestor.
I appreciate Feyre so much because she so unremarkable. She is not a witch or a goddess or a warrior queen or an immortal, all-powerful being. She was human, and she accomplished things as a human, with all the human limitations, and she died for it. And that was believable to me.
I'd read a Valkyrie story about Gwyn and the gang, and what they do with that. Kind of like the 13 in TOG. Any of that Vanserra or Tamlin relation, or her little boring romance with Azriel, is of no interest at all to me.
I dont know, if 50 years from now, Nyx and Emerie and the Valkyries go and attempt to bring true, significant changes to the Illyrians, for example, it would be acceptable and more believable. By then, she'd be a true warrior, someone with experience and knowledge and a vision behind her , and at that point, I'd even see falling in love with an Illyrian (Balthazar, anyone?) and having that relationship. (Oh, and then her wonderful pliant bones would come in so handy, so she could have those wonderful Illyrian babies). Yes, I am pretty sure that this is actually the eventual, Illyrian-plot based plot of a future novella or something like that.

if you could give a member of tog a power from the umbrella academy what would it be and why? i live for ur headcanons i hope your day/night gets better :") <33
HELLO I LOVE YOU FOR THIS ASK, THIS IS AWESOME (and tysm I'm already feeling better having seen this!! ;w;).
Andy
The most obvious thing would be to give Andy Luther's super strength, with her being the leader and a warrior, etc, and I hate to sound cliche but I think I really want to stick with that?? Andy is already lethal enough, but imagine her swinging her labrys around with added super strength...... We Would Not Survive. (Though maybe I'd omit the monkey-transformation hgdfg but I already headcanon her as Extremely Hairy, so).
(Alternatively, I can also see Andy with Klaus' power! Being haunted by ghosts of her past, etc).
Quynh
Diego's power is pretty appropriate here, but I think I'd rather see her with Ben's! Something about Quynh's ""madness"" post-iron maiden reminds me of Ben and essentially his inability to properly control his power. He's got this horrible eldritch monster that can come through a portal inside him and tbh I wouldn't know what to do about that either and I would be pretty afraid of it?? So, Quynh's mental state post-iron maiden could totally pertain to that.
Nile
I would give Nile Vanya's power because she's the newest to immortality (and Vanya spent her whole life not knowing she had powers), and I feel like Vanya's struggle with not being able to control her powers yet could relate to Nile's struggle with finding her place as a new immortal / discovering her abilities (Not saying that Vanya flipping a car is like Nile jumping out a window, but. Y'all are both figuring our your limits and strengths and being sort of impulsive about it hgfdsfg).
Joe
I struggled a little with matching one for Joe?? I guess he would have Allison's power! Joe is pretty charismatic/charming, but I don't know that he's really manipulative (I think the manipulating-with-speeches thing relates more to Nicky). I suppose Joe could also have Vanya's power (I'm thinking about how her power sometimes works through her music, where Joe's could somehow work through his art)!
Nicky
I would definitely give Nicky Diego's power, if only because of Nicky's pinpoint accurate sniping skills. Imagine him redirecting bullets (or knives, or arrows, if we're going back in time) and just taking out an entire room (or gang of bandits), like OH MY GOD?? (Bonus points if he takes em all out with one arrow/knife).
Booker
I think I would give Booker Five's power! Something something, Booker is stuck in the past (regarding his sons' deaths) and his grief completely blocks his path to living fully in the present, while Five got stuck in the future because of his rashness and his fixation on testing his powers (and probably something to do with not wanting to live in the present). Also, imagining Booker doing spatial jumps from the couch to the kitchen to piss the others off / jumpscare them is so funny to me. Sure makes struggling up the stairs drunk easier (sorry!!!).

y!!! on ice hannibal AU and The Old Guard social media??? Your wips sound great i'd love to hear more about them
thanks so much babe!!! 💞💞💞
yoi hannibal au
ok so this sort of stemmed from me having Emotions TM about dumb distinguished gays hannibal lector/victor nikiforov getting completely swept off their feet by strange anti-social nerds will graham/yuuri katsuki
because like, in canon, before they met their beloved weirdos, they were bored, which for them meant death. for hannibal, because serial killers get careless and then are caught, and for vitya, because skaters get stuck, and then lose all joy from the ice.
plus there’s the physical similarities, with the grey haired eastern european rich ass suited up Very Important And Well Known men, and then their brown hair glasses soft faced loner husbands who love their dogs.
so i went hmmmmmuuushhem together
the result is true crime podcast host/investigative specialist yuuri katsuki hyperfixating on a serial killer who just-so-happens to be viktor nikiforov, the eccentric luthier (??? maybe??? i haven’t decided lol, something to do with music) who has been attemting to woo a blushing and only slightly oblivious yuuri. phichit and chris are clutching each other in the background. i haven’t decided if they’re in on it yet, whichever one has more comedic potential.
tog social media au
this was born from the various posts on this here hellsite about the immortal gang having social media accounts, and booker running a super pretentious booktube/commentary channel, and i couldn’t resist the urge to drabble.
plus, my mom is in various bookclubs, three of which are anti-racist/revolutionary in nature, and she likes to talk to me about who said what and how this one lady didn’t read this month but insisted on talking the whole time, or about how this one dude isn’t quite radicalized yet so he doesn’t know what a proletariat is, or how this one person said this stupid thing, and as a result i’ve taken to imagining with great pleasure how each member of the immortal squad would absolutely flame them.
they are, of course, still immortal vigilantes, so every once in a while they’ll say something that’s normal but slightly to the left, like “nicolo and i have been having this argument for centuries now but i am right and he knows it,” or they’ll make some comment about how oscar wilde was a prick who made terrible tea, or they’ll talk to each other in like a proto-indo-iranian language or something, and since they put subtitles on all their videos and they’re not like, Serious videos, most of their audience is like ‘haha jokes so funny’
but there’s a small group that are like, grad students and super nerds (lead, of course, by copley), who hear that stuff and go wait a damn minute, “there’s literally no record of that thing you said about mozart” or “THAT LANGUAGE HAS BEEN DEAD FOR CENTURIES??? WHAT THE FUCK?????” or “that is an honest to god rodin” or “those weapons sure are suspiciously accurate,” plus all the pictures and paintings of them dating back actual millenia
so they’ve been added to the list of immortals alongside john mulaney, anne hatheaway, hozier, florence welch, paul rudd, jeff goldblum, wang yibo, xiao zhan, keanu reeves, etc. (these people are, in fact, Actual Immortals. they get coffee sometimes and rant about how much english sucks.)

Leather Jackets and Glasses Two
Y/n L/n, the leader of the notorious gang called The Scouts. Placed in Rose high, Y/n is in her senior year but things take a turn when she starts getting interested in a certain boy named, Levi Ackerman. Follow the journey of heartbreak, betrayal and love between two people who were destined to be together.
Chapter Two:
-What do you mean “you keyed the teacher’s car”!? Did you or did you not!?
My father yells at me. So yeah. He found out what I did.
-it’s not my fault, he was being an asshole. Dad, is 57 a bad score?
He looks at me curiously.
-Not really. I mean you passed. Why?
-When he gave me my paper, he freakin scoffed and rolled his eyes. He looked at me like some low life. So I taught him a lesson.
My dad chuckles. He leans down and cups my cheek.
-Honey, i know you did good. He is an asshole for doing that. Teachers are supposed to uplift your spirits and try and push you further because they believe in you. I can have a “chat” with him on Monday.
He finishes and kisses my forehead.
-Thanks, Dad. I wish I could say I was sorry.
-Don’t push it.
His stern voice caught me off guard.
-Sorry, sir. May I leave now?
He nods and I wake up and leave to my room. It seemed I wasn’t paying attention to where I was walking because I bumped into someone, making me fall to my ass.
-Oh Jeez Y/n. I didn’t even see you.
Mike says as he offers his hand to help me up.
-Yeah,you giant.
I wake up and dust my pants.
-I heard what you did to your teachers car. Not bad, kid. I did worse.
I raise my eyebrow to that. Mike always seemed so chill and not one to cause fights. But that was before I saw him and my dad interrogate one of our ex members. I can still hear his bones crack from Mike crushing that guy’s arm.
-What did you do?
-No no. I’m not giving you ideas. What did your dad say?
-Nothing.
He hums in response and starts to walk away.
-Hey Mike?
He turns to face me.
-You know what...never mind
I take off running to my room leaving Mike confused. I take out my phone as I enter. I dial a number and wait for them to pick up.
-hello?
-still on for tonight.
-aww HELL YEAH. Same time?
-yeah. I gotta sneak out though. So I might be a tad bit late.
-it’s fine. As long as you’re coming. Everyone is gonna be there.
I perk my ears up.
-everyone?
-yeah. From our grade. They wanted a pre-prom thing or something. Is it cool?
I smile.
-It’s perfect
~a couple of hours later
I put on my jacket and boots and head to my window. I jump out onto the roof and make my way to a ladder I left there earlier. I climbed down and make my way out of the years. So as you can see, I have been sneaking out for a while. It’s not like my dad cares, he never caught me and plus those guards are shit at their jobs. I hop over my gate and walk to the end of my neighborhood. I take a left and see Mikasa’s car, waiting. I hop into the passenger seat.
-Hey.
Mikasa says as she puts her cigarette out.
-Took you long enough.
-Yeah. Had some trouble with the ladder. Anyway, everyone is there?
-Yeah. Fucking sucks. All the nerds and jocks are there. Eren and Jean are there already too.
I smile. Nerds. Only one comes to my mind.
-Alright let’s go.
I tell Mikasa. She nods her head and puts the car into drive and we make our way to the party. This party was at the end of town. So it takes a good 15 minutes from my place. It’s at an abandoned scrapyard where not many people hang out. This place was perfect. It had these big old cars where you can chill in, some cool scrap metal. It was our little getaway.
-So...I see you have your eye on someone.
Mikasa tells me. I look at her confused. How the fuck...
-I don’t know what you’re talking about.
I say and look out the window.
-Yeah. Sure. I’ve seen you look at him. Eren may be stupid enough to believe you were looking at Reiner but I saw you look at Levi.
I widen my eyes, still not looking at her.
-Ok. Fine. But just so you know, he’s there too.
Mikasa smiles. I look at her and smirk.
-Stays between us.
-Don’t need to tell me twice.
The rest of the car ride was quiet apart from Mikasa’s radio playing. “Dead!” by My Chemical Romance was on. Perfect.
By the time we pulled up to the scrapyard it was half 8 at night so it was already dark out. Mikasa parks the car and we jump out.
-Yo look who’s finally here! Y/N!
Eren shouts from the fire. People looked at me and cheered. I look at the crowd looking for a certain someone.
-Finally. I thought you weren’t gonna come.
Eren says as he puts his arm around me.
-What are you drinking?
I take the blue cup from his hand and sniff.
-Vodka and Redbull.
-Jesus. As if you don’t need the extra energy.
I laugh. We go to the big fire that was burning in the middle of the yard. Only seniors were there so I knew everyone.
-Y/N!
I hear my name and turn to the source.
-oh fuck.
I whisper to myself. Reiner. That dipshit. He is such an asshole. Remember earlier when I told you that I was fairly popular, especially with the boys? He was one of the boys that just won’t give up.
-Reiner.
-Aw. No hi? I ran all the way across the yard for you.
-Well I didn’t ask you to.
I say as I sip my drink.
-So mean. Well, you won’t be mean on prom night. Because I’m gonna be your partner.
-Oh for fucks sake, Reiner. I told you. I don’t want to be your partner.
-Then who are you going with?
-Nobody. I’m not going.
I lie. In fact I was going. I wanted to trash the place. But when the time comes I’ll tell you about it.
-Aww come on,Y/n? Why won’t you give me a chance? I’ll treat you so good. I’ll do whatever you want. And when I say whatever, I mean whatever.
He finishes his sentence with a wink. Gross.
-Yo! REINER. COME THROW SOME BALL WITH US!
Someone calls out to him. He turns to them and yells out a “COMING!” He turns to look at me, smiles and runs off. I swear that guy tries so hard. As I take a sip of my drink,at the corner of my eye I see a couple of people coming to the yard. I recognize them immediately. Levi and Farlan.
-Levi Bro! You made it!
Isabel runs up to him and he ruffles her hair. Cute.
-And no “hey babe” for me?
Farlan asks Isabel. She laughs and kisses him. I’m not gonna lie they made a cute couple. Apparently, Isabel had no interest in Farlan at first. She never cared for finding a boyfriend. But one day, a bet was made that she couldn’t get his number in one day. She ended up telling him a shit joke and caught his interest. She had no intention of falling for him, but she did. She won the bet and his heart and I thought that was beautiful. It turns out I was daydreaming, again, because Eren is poking me.
-Yes, my hyperactive rodent?
I finally turn to him.
-I live for your weird names. Anyway, they starting a game. Come join.
-No Eren. I don’t do these games.
-Please,Y/n?
-No. I’ll watch though. Go.
He pouts but he leaves. I refill my drink and I make my way to an old car near to hear the game and sit on the bonnet. I look to my left and see someone sitting on the car next to me, but I ignore them and listen.
-Alright, seniors. It’s been an awesome night so far. So let’s play a game. Today’s game is Never Have I Ever. Everyone has to play. Even those sitting on the cars. Including you too, Levi.
I hear that name and look to my left. Holy shit, HE was sitting there. He scoffs and looks at Farlan who was sitting on the ground with Isabel on his lap. He turns and looks at me for a split second but does a double-take. I smile and wave a small wave. He widens his eyes and waves back.
-OK! First up, Sasha!
Connie points to her. She has her face stuffed with McDonald’s but speaks anyway.
-Nemver hamve I emver eaten Sushi.
I raised my eyebrow at that. That’s a weird one.
-Sasha, have you never eaten sushi?
Connie asks her. She shakes her head.
-it’s fucking disgusting. It’s the one food I won’t eat.
-Haha. Alright. Everyone if you didn’t eat sushi before, take a sip of your drink.
Yeah, everyone tried sushi so no one drank. I sneak a glance to my side and Levi also didn’t drink. Good to know.
-Ok. Never have I ever broken a bone.
Jean says. A few drink and I do too.
-ok whoever drank tell us what you broke.
Connie tells us.
-I fell down the stairs and broke my leg.
-I bumped into a door and broke my nose.
-I got knocked and broke a few.
A couple of people say. I laugh at some.
-Y/n?
I look up.
-You drank. Tell us.
Connie says. I smile.
-I got into a fight and broke my wrist and collarbone.
Many widen their eyes. Jean smiles. He smiles cause he remembers that fight.
-Hardcore, man. You aren’t labeled as dangerous for nothing, huh?
I shake my shoulders and chuckle. I sneak a peak to my left and see Levi staring. I smirk. He didn’t drink yet. Maybe he really was a good boy.
-Y/n. Your turn.
I put on a thinking face. Then I smile and say my line.
-Never have I ever had friends with benfits.
Many drank. Almost all. And few glances were sent. I look at Levi and he didn’t drink. Mmm.
-Now that was a good one, Y/n. Already getting dirty. Alright, Levi. Your turn.
I turn to look at him and see him look down. It’s quiet for a bit but then he speaks up.
-Never have I ever been arrested.
Jesus. That is unexpected. I would drink but surprisingly that never happened. But I did see Jean sip and Mikasa sip. The air got a bit tensed because Connie was gonna ask them about it. Until I caught his eye and slowly shook my head. He cleared his throat and smiled.
-Jeez Levi. Good one. Alright. Hange. You’re next.
Connie smoothly says. I look at Levi.
-That was good one. Why ask that?
I ask him. He looks at me. My God. This boy just got sexier to me.
-I don’t know. I felt like there needed to be a wilder one.
He says. I smile. I like his voice. I want him to speak again. But we get interrupted by Connie.
-Guys did you hear? Hange asked if you ever sent a nude.
I make a disgusted face and so does Levi.
-Jesus Christ no. What the fuck.
-Yeah Four-Eyes, what the fuck?
He turns to look at Hange. She was sitting between Erwin’s legs as he wraps his arms around her. Yes,they were dating and they also got together by chance. Erwin was her locker neighbor and he mistakenly tried to open hers instead of his. They laughed and a few days later got together.
Levi just swore. He just said “fuck”. I guess he wasn’t a good boy after all.
-Levi.
I say his name to catch his attention. He looks at me.
-Yes?
-Why did you give me your handkerchief the other day?
He blushes and looks down. He doesn’t say anything for a while.
-Your hand was bleeding and it looked like you didn’t have yours on you. Did you think I would just let you suffer like that?
He quietly says the end part. It was soft but I caught it. I smile.
-You’re sweet,Levi. Thank you. By the way you’re not getting it back.
-It’s ok. Keep it.
He says. I tilt my head. He really is strange. We weren’t even paying attention to the game anymore. So I just drank and looked at him. I guess he sensed I was staring so he looked at me.
-Y/n?
I snap out of my daydream.
-Oh sorry was I staring? I just can’t get enough of your cuteness.
I tell him. He widens his eyes and looks away, hiding a blush. I smile. He is so easy to fluster. The night progresses and people start to leave around 12. I stick around for a while with my gang. As we are chatting I see Levi and Farlan leave. He looks at me and I smile. He waves to me.
-I knew you liked him.
Someone says to me. I turn to that someone to see Mikasa light her cigarette.
-Shut up. I don’t like him.
-Tell that to your face. You can fool anyone with your stoicness but not me. I can clearly see that you’re blushing.
It was my turn to widen my eyes and look away. Fuck.
-Just take me home.
I say and Mikasa chuckles.
-Sure.
We leave and I see Levi and Farlan by their car. It looks like it’s not starting and the engine sounds like shit. Isabel tries starting it but the engine just give out.
-Dammit. I just got this fucker fixed last week.
I hear Farlan scream.
-I told you not listen to Kenny.
Levi responds. Kenny? That name seems familiar. But I brush it off and grab Mikasa’s arm.
-Hey. It looks like they are having car problems.
Mikasa smirks at me.
-Wanna help out?
I look at her and squint my eyes.
-..yes.
-Alright. Let’s go.
We walk up to them and Mikasa taps Farlan’s shoulder.
-Hey. You guys ok?
Farlan looks at us. He instantly recognized us.
-Oh. Oh yes. This damn car gave out.
Farlan tells us.
-Can I have a see?
I ask Farlan. He nods his head and make my way to the engine. I ask Isabel to try and start it. When she presses the accelerator there’s a weird sound coming from the back of it. I look inside and see something weird.
-Uhm Farlan? Do you have a pair of pliers?
He looks in his boot and pulls out a pair of pliers. He gives them to Levi and Levi comes and gives it to me.
-Oh. Oh, thank you.
I take it from Levi and smile. I stick the pliers in the back and pull out a wire.
-Ok, Isabel. Let’s try it one more time.
And when Isabel starts it, it successfully starts.
-WHOOHOO!
Isabel yells and Farlan moves to thank me.
-Thank you, Y/n. Thank you so much. How can I repay you?
I shake my head.
-Nothing. Just bring the car by Pixis’ Shop downtown. Tell him I sent you. He would do the car up for free.
-Whoa, what really?
-Yeah. Also, your engine is shit right now. Whoever did it before really did a number on it. It looks like they either didn’t know how to do it or they hated you guys.
Farlan laughs at that.
-That’s what Levi said. Our uncle recommended the shop. Levi said that they were gonna fuck up the car because they hated our uncle.
I look at Levi and he smirks.
-Yeah well, be careful on the road ok?
-Yeah. You too, Y/n. Thank you again.
-Thank you, Y/n!!!
Isabel shouts. I wave them off and walk to Mikasa’s car. She starts the car and we head off. Halfway through the drive Mikasa says something.
-He was staring the whole time.
I wake up from my light slumber.
-Huh?
-Levi. That whole time you were working on Farlan’s car. He didn’t take his eyes off of you.
I click my tongue.
-Nah. Perhaps it was the fact that I was working on his brothers car and also I’m a gangster and he was trying to make sure I didn’t fuck with them?
-Nope. This was a different look. I can’t put my foot on it but it was different.
-Hmm
I respond to her analysis. I roll my eyes. No. There’s no way he is interested in me.
===
*In Farlan’s car*
-Levi-bro! Y/n is so kind. Don’t you think? I  didn’t expect her to know about cars, if im being honest.
Isabel tells him. He hums in response.
-I saw you two talking to each other at the party. You seem close.
Farlan says to Levi.
-No. We only recently started talking.
-But she’s super pretty up close, huh? And I think she likes you.
Isabel tells Levi as she leans on Farlan’s seat.
-No. I don’t think so.
-Why not???
-She has so many other options. Why would she go for the nerd of all people? I think she’s interested in Farlan.
-Levi! No! I’m with Isabel and I’m 120% sure she knows that. You really need to put yourself out there and stop thinking low of yourself. Plus, Y/n doesn’t seem like a person to go for someone who’s taken.
Levi clicks his tongue and looks at the road.
No. There’s no way a girl like her would like a guy like me...

Fanfic asks: 17! (or maybe it's 16... I've already forgotten. the one about 'a fic in the ideas stage')
Gotcha! :)
17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.
Definitely the TOG / Star Trek fic, which is not AU so much as set far enough in the future that space travel is a thing. (I love TOG. It’s so flexible this way.) I’m still putting all the pieces together in my head, but it’s getting to the point where I should really just start writing and work the rest out from there. Basic premise is AOS-verse, set...I dunno, a year or so after the first movie, when New Vulcan has been established for the survivors of the Narada. The TOG gang are one one of their breaks from each other -- I’m pretty sure Joe/Nicky will be back on Earth for a spell, Nile will be in space, and I’m still debating where Booker and Quynh are at (which is the last thing I need to figure out so that I can start writing it). And then a new immortal wakes up and they need to come back together to deal with it, and Nile can start coming into her own as the leader of the team. So. That. There will be cameos from the Enterprise crew, but that’s not meant to be the point of this particular fic; it’s primarily about TOG.

I feel like the God of Highschool adaptation is the epitome of someone seeing pretty fight scenes and ignoring literally everything else. Now maybe other people feel a different way, but for someone who read GoH for the story and not the fights, this adaptation is failing.
Tower of God had rough times, such as things being a bit too fast or a lack of explanation. I’ve even seen people mad for the tweaks in character which is understandable. There’s that and then there’s completely cutting out backstory, character motivation, and key moments.
Gamdo Go, Mangseong Gang, and Seungchul Baek all had their backstorys removed or in Gang’s case, completely passing over the point. The commissioners aren’t being given the screen time they need and the backstory between Mujin, the Six, and Taejin is completely missing. The backstory for that is especially important because it sets up character relationships and why Mujin does what he’s doing.
The Daewi and Mori fight also had little buildup unlike in the manwha where you see Daewi training with Seungchul or having him think back to when his father told him to kill any Re Taekwando user he sees.
Say what you want about the ToG anime, but at least they didn’t cut Serena or Hoh’s backstory. Seungchul and Mujin seem to be getting the worst of it though. Seungchul may not be important now, but anime only’s are gonna be confused when he becomes a main character later on.
Mujin also lost his bad guy persona he put up, cause in the manwha instead of telling Daewi he already tried treating his friend he simply said that he wouldn’t have treated him anyways due to how he was fighting. This was all to make Daewi feel cornered and put up a bigger fight so Mujin could see what he’s made of and also so Daewi wouldn’t regret anything. At this point Mujin is supposed to be the good guy masscerading as a bad guy, but the anime just makes him a person who wants to see strong fighters.
The fighting in GoH is amazing, but if you can’t build up the story properly around it then it becomes nothing but pretty movement. While reading the manwha I felt pretty emotional, during this the only thing I can think is “Nice animation”
Simply put, the GoH anime seems to think the fighting is the story when in reality the fighting was the climax to the story.
