It can be easy to forget that all syndicates linked to The Thumb has a strict hierarchy. Even though the Kurokumo Clan can definitely be more lax, if work isn't done well, they can lose fingers, or even a hand. Also Kurokumo Clan is still like. Morally terrible. Presence can literally represent corruption in some parts of The City *cough cough* S. CORP! Anyways...
I don't remember the source, but I heard the Patriarch of the Kurokumo Clan, who's apparently "One of the Ten Blades of the East", lost his hand due to his failure to complete The Thumb's business. Kind of stands out really. Kurokumo Clan seems to be a fairly ragtag group of criminals extorting and harassing whoever's in their territory, while the Thumb is painfully strict and formal. If your in a Subsidiary, your boss may be one who's willing to be merciful and or lax on some punishments, but not The Thumb. Never The Thumb. The apex of syndicate cruelty. Mass murders at the drop of a hat. Limbs and tongues lost forever. It really is extremely fucked up.
I feel bad for Katriel. The Thumb took her tongue away, and I bet her status as being part of The Thumb is binding, even after being unbooked. She must be so lost in the world now...
Also. "Ten Blades of The East" sounds extremely interesting. Speaks volumes to just how fucking HUGE and storied The City is. Makes me wonder if Bamboo Hatted Kim can be considered on par...
I love how Project Moon, even after Ruina, can show just how huge, complex, and connected The City is...

I am slowly dissolving into a puddle ... I'm so happy about the upcoming event, you have no idea. My friend told me Heathcliff's ID is only 1000 currency, which will be super easy for me to get, since I'll have all the IDs except for two. You can bet I'll be grinding for him on Wednesday night.

Another library of ruina sprite discovery. I once made a thumb capo, Magnus. He came from me developing the story of one of my fixer offices, which i'll show sometime later.

propaganda:
✅ "I'd let boris discipline me"
❌ "the thumb feel so scary like if i suck their dick wrong they’re gonna pluck out my teeth"
❌ "I'm pretty sure asking any of them for sex would result in your gentiles being cut off if they say no (and they will want you to do it)"

i don't think this needs to be said but you can viscerally hate a fictional character (or group) while also respecting their place in the story and their writing.

Yield My Flesh to Claim Their Bones and (Living) Death
Tumblr media
What an event. So much to talk about. I don't want to get too lost in the weeds since some people might not have seen the new content yet but I wanted to talk about one specific thought I had in relation to the Blade Lineage and Kurokumo Clan factions.
While presented as a conflict between two warring Syndicates, both groups are being played by S Corp. It is somehow a fight where both sides have already lost.
The Blade Lineage were originally bodyguards and agents of the corporation until the internal corruption soiled everything they found comforting of their homeland. When that corruption struck at Kim's charge, killing him before he could reveal what he knew about the internal workings of the company, the Syndicate had no choice but to leave their homeland to gather the strength to return and uproot the evil that claimed their District.
Enter the Kurokumo Clan. A subsidiary of the Thumb, they are first seen in Library of Ruina as petty criminals running an extortion racket. However, much of their menace is undercut by their primary members getting whipped by Tanya in seconds (which I mean... fair). In the new chapter, we see more of their current status as doing S Corp's doing on the Thumb's behalf. If Gregor's new Identity Story is anything to go off of, the Kurokumo Clan used to have practicing martial artists and forward trajectory but have now been attached to a Wing that they cannot separate themselves from, stuck in an endless cycle of odd jobs and the long, arduous task of wiping out the remaining Blade Lineage members.
Both syndicates are experiencing their own forms of death, one in the literal sense and one in the metaphorical sense. The Blade Lineage has stuck to their principles and continued to fight the good fight. Unfortunately, they live in the City and are picked off one by one for it. On the other hand, the Kurokumo Clan is on the road to irrelevancy, its members stuck in positions where they have to continue to do the bidding of higher powers while having no options to transfer out without starting their lives over in a new District. They have lives without freedom which one can hardly describe as living.
It's tragic. It's good writing. I've been eating pretty well on the literary analysis front.

Currently going through Distortion Detective ch36~ and I can definitely see the potential for it as an actual game set during Library of Ruina, maybe up to and during Limbus Company too..
Just like how Limbus Company (which the protagonists will later join) goes through the Wings, Moses and Ezra are going to all sorts of different places and meeting different people to discover and understand the source of the Distortion phenomena, and because of this they end up interacting with all sorts of factions - the Udjat, who are only fought as side-quests in Ruina, and Dias, only mentioned in their key page. They get on the bad side of N Corp, work for/part of Seven Association, and make a deal with the Thumb.
And that's just so far.
I think the other really interesting thing about it is that, so far at least, the story is set while Library of Ruina is still happening. L Corp's Nest is shrouded in fog. Moses, who sees and understands Distortions, describes it in a fascinating way, suggesting that Angela's sorrow was basically leaking out of the Library itself.
I've only got around 6 more chapters until I've caught up on what they did before deciding to make it a game in the long run, but it is a pretty cool read, and I'd say required reading if you want to have a good look into the world/setting around this time.

something bad did indeed happen to that man. spent abt 25 minutes trying to find a better picture of that one (1) offical piece with his eyes open that wasnt compressed or tiny
#library of ruina#yan library of ruina#getting comfortable doodling some objects and mannequin shapes for very obvious reasons. i read the keypage story and now it has a grip on#my brain. wanting to go ahead and plan it out and then draw the mangled memory and nightmare that replays behind the eyelids in the darknes#it was cool to see the reason confirmed from my speculation. twas indeed another reason of blocking out present pain with closing of eyes#considering they made angela have a plot important reason for doing so it would only make sense for another to have a reason for it as well#well. after having a prominent part inside the thumb/index story line. its just going to be yapping about yan now i think#let me add a spoiler tag i suppose? vauge but just incase i dont want to be an asshole. even if most already have played rhe game#library of ruina spoilers#lor spoilers#i really liked the typewritter effect over the voice after distortion. especially so when the effect finishes before the actual garbled voi#does. it makes it feel as if it were being read out after it being written down rather than of own words or volition. along with the text#upon the screen during the fight being just prescripts rather than anything relating to the man himself like the other instances with such#text had been. paired w the name of distorted yan being untranslated to keep the intent of the name being unreadable or not understandable#more into the idea of stripping away of the self or any sense of a self. not personal and not even him anymore. the following of a goal for#the goal for it is given and there isnt any hope of having the ability to not do such a thing. people yearn for a reason and something to d#and for it to be given to them to not hold responsibility nor have to do their own choices anymore. once a crushing weight weighs down#inside the face of an absolute cruelty that is perpetuated and that crushed the dreams or even desires having them be but nothing how can#one move on? it was really nice to see at the end of the fight. its easier to just say such things than to actually do them. even if the ac#ions dont even feel as if they are ones own or that there isnt any say in the matter having to endure all the pain for seemingly nothing it#still is pain. that feeling inside is still real. it still happened. regardless of the circumstances that brought them about#the thumb/index or just fingers seem to be an exaggerated to the extreme showcase of how the colletivist mindset in an unhealthy manner#could be exhibited. the thumb with its hierarchy and absoluteness and the demand for respect along with its strict layers of showing who is#below and who is above. the ability to have power over those underneath . the participation inside of it and the already brought up yearnin#to be apart of a group and to have a title and position inside of a group and of power and even a desire like from pete to join one iirc#the index being of the cruel perpetuating cycle of pain people inflict upon one another a behavior beaten and upkept by the systems as they#drift and desire to live. which causes them to partcipate in that cycle out of necessity. cruel acts upon another in order to live and seei#a need to go ahead and do such things for if they dont they die and another will just do the same to them. social sciences talk and rolands#talks abt how the city opperates reinforce that fact. the index and prescripts are really just a show inside that extreme manner and in a#more literal sense of that. it was really cool to read it..

what districts would LIs even be from? or at least which one of them would be from nests?
like I'm pretty sure whitney grew up in backstreets, and with how clueless sydney is i'd almost call them a nest dweller
...on the other hand, we already have the city's Britain...
Crack my fingers and open your eyes. I'm gonna write about this in FULL THROTTLE as I've been thinking abt all this for THE WHOLE MONTHS.
WARNING: some aspect might spoil any of the lore related to both medias That's an interesting question... Personally I do think they all collectively came from District 20 LOL BUT YES, defo Whitney came from Backstreet, District 20 nonetheless. I can already imagine them ever joined Dead Rabbits at some point if they didn't decide to enter any Wing or pursue higher education (as per Vrel ever mentioned how Whitney might wants to be a doctor.) Robin... I personally enjoy the idea of them coming from District 12's Backstreet when Lobcorp. still running as the Wing. Or maybe D22 where Vergilius orphanage is on. Ok no, I'm joking, that's gonna be a bit painful but kinda interesting scenario alright. Other possibility I have in mind is that Robin might be living in District 21's Backstreet, right at the coastal area that's under Middle's control. In this scenario, Bailey themself might be someone involved with The Middle. Probably a Big Brother/Sister. As for Sydney, I could imagine them came from Nest K, or at least Backstreet area in D10 that's under Dieci Association's control. This can play into an interesting scenario of how Sirris (who I could see might be working for K Corp. or any high school in Backstreet 10) met their partner, which I can already see very fitting to be part of Dieci. Oh on the side note, River is defo a Dieci alright. That fist filled with knowledge say it all LOL Kylar... ISTG I can't not imagine him as Edgar Linton HFVJSFVHSD but yes, they might be a rich Backstreet dweller but with family involved/under the protection of/influenced by The Ring. Or hell... What if they're involved with Church of Gears instead. That'll be pretty fun idea to think of... Alex... I can imagine them to be on the well-off side of Backstreet dweller. As District 19 is under S Corp. that run in agro-industry bizz, I might put them here. HOWEVER, seeing how adamant many people wants to leave District 19 (Yi Sang, Blade Lineage), it's a little hard to imagine them staying on District 19 either. Though I might change this once Don's Canto drop, which could possibly take place in either District 20 or District 19. As of now, I can think they might be coming from Backstreet T, probably on the same area where The League of Nine used to live on. ... Which then also make Remy possibly a D19 dwellers as well! However, I can see them as one that's backed out by syndicates instead. A big shot one, that is. Move on to Avery. Definitely some hot shot in T Corp., could be Class 5 worker. Them being 'interested' in science (or that's how they claimed to be when we met them as PC for the first time), rich, gaudy, and all that kinda scream a Feather to me. Could be one that involved with some Syndicate as well. The Thumb, perhaps...? Oh, as I write this, I found that northern area of the City supposed to be a lot richer and developed. That might be where they came from too. However we couldn't make any assumption yet as this part of the City hasn't get much attention from any of the game/media. With how keen they're to stay out of The Town, can I say Eden might be Outskirt dweller...? Maybe someone who used to be someone from the City but decide to pull off? Perhaps even might be someone that ever put some hands on The Light project while not directly took part of the group. I can imagine them as someone living on the outer area of Black Forest, alright? Like, maybe someone that knows about the Three Birds and been telling people off. Maybe in Ruina era, they ended up joined the Library once it got yeeted to Outskirt lol who knows. AND OF COURSE, we couldn't talk about LIs without talking about the beasts! Both Great Hawk and Black Wolf is under Site X-394 trust me. I can already see them on Outskirt, alright. Probably not on the same part of Outskirt as Eden but still around that area.
AND WHILE WE HAVE FINISHED THE LIS, I might as well talk about some of the People of Interest as well. THERE'S TWO THINGS I CAN THINK OF ABOUT WINTER: Either a Claw/Arbiter, or someone that used to take part in Smoke War or the War between Wings. If he was a veteran of Smoke War, I can see them on the winning side, or someone that's ended up like Salvador. Perhaps they might be retired fixer too, an Ex-Dieci that used to be the one who did Ruins-delving to retrieve Relics. Wren is defo someone who visit Backstreet J often, might even be District 9 dweller. They might be one with a Nest permit but not really living on the Nest themself. Hell, they could actually run a bizz on Nest as a way for them to smuggle things to-and-from Backstreet J. Though them as part of a pirate syndicate that deals more in smuggling bizz is a good possibility too, alright. Zephyr is, clear as a day, as part of pirate syndicate OR sailor ship akin to the Pequod in either of the coastal districts. I can see them as part of the Twinhook, though they might run their own syndicate instead. I have two ideas for Ivory Wraith in mind, according to "which" we're talking about. As an actual person, Ivory might be part of Index who had a clash with Church of Gears and fallen victim. However if we talk about them as the Spirit, I can imagine them as something like Bloodfiend. In a way, a nonhuman born out of Distortion-esque phenomenon. Harper... What can I say about them but Dongrang? LOL. I just can imagine them as a big shot on K Corp. that's close to who Dongrang is. Someone influential enough to be taking care of Teary-Thing. Yeah, something along that line... If not, they might run their own clinic that provides healthcare, but of course with whatever The City-esque business backed it. With the new Dieci Association updates I can confidently say that Jordan is, without doubt, a Dieci's Saint, at least on Section 4 or 5. If not, at least he's at the same level as Dieci Meur. One thing for sure, Niki definitely NOT from District N. They'd disappear as soon as they whip up a camera. N Corp and its Taboo is just something... As for the others... I have no idea yet, but maybe I'd came up with one later on!

I would love to see you talk about a verse you love but don't get to talk about enough!
((RUBS HANDS TOGETHER BOY HOWDY DO I KNOW JUST WHAT TO TALK ABT
Really the only verse that I HAVEN'T thoroughly explored and talked abt is her Project Moon verse (because I have yet to find Project Moon blogs on here) which, really is what her main verse is emulating! But an offshoot-
So for those who don't know what I mean by Project Moon, I'm talking about the company who made the games Lobotomy Corporation, Library of Ruina, and recently Limbus Company. This world? Is deep and dark. I mean DARK dark. Like this shit gets into the psyche of humanity, the whys and hows of man, the monsters (Abnormalities) manifested from the psyche of humanity as well as humans who distort as a result of their psyche collapsing OR recovering last minute (but that's called gaining an E.G.O)
Anyway, Project Moon Marg is a bit of a runaway! Shade doesn't QUITE exist in the same way she does in the Main Verse. Marg lives possession free, but she's a Syndicate runaway alongside Leo who's a familial figure to her because of the Syndicate they come from called The Middle (The Middle relating to the theme of finger based Syndicates such as The Index, The Third, The Thumb, The Pinky, u get it) who refer to members as Little Brothers/Sisters, Big Brothers/Sisters, Greater Brothers/Sisters. In this case, Margaret was a Little Sister where Leo was a Big Brother, but both tore themselves away from the Syndicate and are forced to cover their myriad of Syndicate tattoos as to not be easily spotted by the ex-Syndicate members who are looking to kill them.
Marg in this verse is colder, but that's because The City requires one to be for the sake of one's survival. She's prone to violence, easy to anger, and will kill with very little reason. She's still a hired killer, but she's hired alongside Leo. She's also paid for augmentations for her body, so she's both skilled and abnormally strong.
Given the series of events in the Pathfinder campaign she really bloomed in, I'm currently teetering on the idea of making an extra part of that verse that's kind of a "Bad End" for that verse specifically, as in the campaign she ended up distorting after the loss of Leo and her pet giant centipede (yes she has a giant centipede named Cuddles)
As for WHAT Shade is in this verse... I'm not entirely sure yet. I'm waiting for another friend's campaign set to take place years after this past one where he's giving his own interpretation of Shade using an existing abberation of an Abnormality :)

v; Project Moon ( Nobukatsu )
Content warning: Child abuse + The standard death/gore/dark topics that come with Project Moon stuff. Read at your own risk.
Firstborn son, second child of the current generation of the Oda clan : one of the oldest subsidiaries serving under the Thumb. Heir to the legacy of this crime syndicate, which terrorized the backstreets into what little order they were forced to have.
No matter what, he could never imagine himself to fulfill the role he was destined to hold. Where father wanted to him to have been a leader, he instead only had a coward.
Nobukatsu was terrified of this place - of this prison he was expected to call a home. Sit up straight or your spine might be broken. Lack courtesy in your words and they might cut off your tongue. Speak out of turn and they might shoot off your jaw.
All of this he'd seen. All of this, he knew it could happen to him someday.
Escape. There had to be a way out.
In the end, it was sister who found the solution: an energy production singularity looking for new workers. Lobotomy corporation. He didn't ask questions for why a wing was so willing to take in two children of the Thumb. He wanted this to be their happy ending.
But that would never come to be. That dream was shattered when he found his older sister's head in the hallway floor - severed clean from her body.
He went mad. He turned his gun against the clerks, against his allies. His screams and cries would echo through the hall until he was finally put out of his misery, a blade slicing his upper torso in half.
....
Then - by who's generosity was it that he should get a second chance? It hardly feels deserving for him to be among his revived co-workers, his soul bound to the book that now rested in the Library of Ruina.
..If he's lucky, maybe this could be their happy ending after all. At the very least, he has the rest of eternity to figure it out.
** Unless plotted otherwise, Nobukatsu will by default be part of the floor of Language.
