So, I somehow watched a few paleontologist reacts to dinosaur movies videos and it gave me an idea for a weird TMFU AU. What if Napoleon is a movie director who is planning to make a series of movies about dinosaurs (something like Jurassic Park) and Illya is a paleontologist who is called in as an expert consultant. Illya is of course very adamant that everything has to be as realistic as possible and Napoleon is more like "it's not a documentary, it doesn't have to be 100% true". Hence they argue all the time.

Your thoughts on this?

It's been far too long since I got an AU idea in my inbox! Oh, for the days of blorbo au, or the fruit gang au, or tmfu/goncharov crossover, lmaoooo.

ANYWAY, thank you for sending this in. I am unsurprisingly familiar with the genre of video you are talking about (and before anyone asks, no, I've never made any of them... but it's really weird to see people I know from grad school making them now and being like OH THAT IDIOT (affectionate)). Illya as the thorn in Napoleon's creative side is an excellent idea all around, particularly something like this. Napoleon would want to be free to make the movie the way he wants, and Illya is utterly obsessed with all the details he's getting wrong. The thing is, Napoleon does want his movie to be reasonably accurate, he just is also of the opinion that there's a lot of room for interpretation (and he's not wrong), whereas Illya is of course very wedded to his own theories. I love the idea that Napoleon surprises him in one of their arguments by busting out some alternate interpretation of a fossil and Illya is just flummoxed (and also a little turned on) because he assumed Napoleon hadn't bothered reading up on it at all.

Of course Waverly is the producer, and I like Gaby as the special effects supervisor—and they're doing things a little old school, with lots of practical effects so she can build ALL the things. Illya learns he can sneak some stuff in just by going to her and getting her to build the models that way. 😂

I think over the course of making the movie they first come to an uneasy truce, but THEN they start spending more time together. Maybe Napoleon at first invites Illya to come have drinks one evening so they can discuss things to placate him even though he doesn't think Illya will actually take him up on it. But Illya reluctantly agrees, and they actually end up having a good conversation. They start spending nearly every evening of filming together, still arguing over almost everything but it's getting a lot flirty (especially on Napoleon's side lmao).

I'm not 100% sure where else this would go but I have a vision of Napoleon bringing Illya to the premiere as his date. Maybe there's some drama about it because Napoleon's mostly been an indie film director but landed this big-budget summer tentpole movie that has the potential to make him a big name. He's never really thought about how being out in Hollywood would affect him until this moment, when suddenly it seems to matter more than it did when he was off making weird indie flicks. But he really really wants Illya to be there with him and not just for the movie.

Thanks so much again for sending this in, it was so lovely to dust off the ol' AU plotting muscles and dream up something for these two. 💕

Sith Obi-wan Kenobi is the most lethal of the enemies, not because he is powerful on the force like Sidius or Vader, but because he has charm, he makes allies, his control over his own power is precise, deadly precise, he has the Jedi training integrated on his body and (depending on how far in his life he is and how canon you want to count his life of absolute misery during his padawanship) years upon years of experience that not many in the galaxy can say that they have and much less survive out of it, he was set on a pad of Infinite Sadness, and he took it, made his feelings fester and grow until one day he decided that he was done, his Fall was a surprise to everyone but himself

I love this song See, THIS is why I like the Sith Obi-Wan AU idea. I think Obi-Wan has a lot of motivation not to fall, but I also think he has a lot of potential points in his life where he could if the wrong thing happened at the wrong time. And if he did, everyone would be fucked, because ALL THESE REASONS.

I love thinking about things like always-a-Sith!Obi-Wan as a general leading the Separatists, I've read a couple good fics like that, but I also like imagining that conversation between Obi-Wan and Dooku going very differently in Attack of the Clones. If Obi-Wan was just a little more tired, or frustrated, if Dooku had focused all his attention on his grandpadawan and taken the sympathetic tack instead of dangling (true) intel because he knew Obi-Wan would never believe it...I don't know, it's a fun what-if to consider.

Hiii I’m Obi-Anon!! About the Anakin god thingy is just because he is son of the Force but you are right is closer to the anti-Christ or straight up Eldrich anomaly lol

Honestly would love to see more fics or art with Anakin as an eldritch manifestation of the Force while he's a little kid, although neither Shmi nor Obi-Wan deserves him being all creepy.

It would be very funny though if his Force powers started manifesting really hard for a short time when he was a little kid. Floating a couple inches off the floor instead of walking until Shmi asks him to stop, things like that. Just doesn't mention this to Obi-Wan or any of the other Jedi because he assumes everyone goes through the "floating instead of walking" phase.

"Cal Kestis is Obi-Wan's son" is my favorite Star War conspiracy theory. The timing works out perfectly if Obi-Wan had a delightful evening with a lovely woman on whatever planet he and Qui-Gon visited before Naboo. And no shade to those who love them but I really don't care much at all about Satine or Korkie or especially Korkie's parentage

At this point unless they disprove it in canon I'm just embracing the madness that is Cal Kestis Kenobi.

I started this after I 'finished' Don't Give Up On Me (the McShep vid that I shared last week) and didn't get super far with it back then, but was inspired to go back to it and have basically spent the whole week working on it. No one's more surprised than me that it's done :'D

Anyway, I've described this as Rodney according to Rodney - so everyone who enjoys his manic little bastard energy is gonna have a blast with this :'D

The Orville season 3 is now on Disney+

If any of you have thought, hmmm, what on earth is that wacky Seth McFarlane sci-fi show everyone's been raving about for the past 10 weeks? (the first two seasons were already on there)

First of all, it's not Family Guy in space, I promise. It's like contemporary 90s era Star Trek with a sprinkle of workplace dramedy (though it was originally billed as a comedy by Fox). The cast of characters are all delightful and lovable. The SFX for both makeup and the CG is fucking spectacular. But most importantly, the writing is clever and the stories are well told - the characters and their dialogue are relatable and believable, and the stories deal with so many contemporary issues - everything from religious fanaticism to social media, slavery to suicide, populist leaders to trans rights.

This is a world in which humans still enjoy getting hammered and know pop culture - but also one which is completely committed to the idea of a world without capitalism, where Earth came together with other alien worlds to form a planetary Union for shared advancement and protection and cultural exchange. (And unlike Trek which is often handwavey about it, they actually go into this lore properly!)

It's optimistic, goofy, funny, but also not afraid to pull any punches and made us all cry at least once an episode in season 3.

Season 3 was the best season yet, but each of those episodes was built onto the foundation established in the first two seasons. So please, give it a chance - go in knowing you're getting goofy Star Trek that starts a bit too comedic and needs a bit of time to find its space legs. But I promise, if you stick with it, you're in for a hell of a ride and some absolutely incredible sci-fi.

In conclusion: do you love found family? Do you love optimistic space explorers? Do you love wacky adventures?

So, 7 years ago, I spent an abroad semester in Cardiff, Wales. (If there are any Welsh speakers there in the void: S’mae! Croeso! Dw i’n mwynhau dysgu Cymraeg ond dw i ddim yn dda iawn. Ond dw i’n ymarfer bob dydd!) I did a lot of things and had a lot of adventures during my time there but probably my proudest accomplishment is my blanket.

I started it pretty early in the semester- I’d have to read through my write ups for exact dates. I got all the yarn from this vendor at Cardiff Market (I spent so much money there) and I worked on it pretty much the entire time I was there. I finished sewing it together in mid May (lol see my “blanket project 2k15″ tag for some late night/early morning nonsense when I was putting it together) and when the semester finished, I brought it home and put it aside. I had meant to do things like tucking in the ends, making a border, etc but uhhh I never did that.

Until now.

Tada!!

While I’ve made blankets after this one, this is still the biggest and most involved project I’ve ever done. Would I do something like this again? I think so. Looking at this again, and looking closely, after so many years, I see some things I could have done differently. But I’m still proud of this. And it’s still the most productive thing I did that whole damn semester lolol

So I watched Marry Me, the new Jennifer Lopez/Owen Wilson romcom (on Peacock- I’m not going to a theater right now) and I smiled almost the whole way through? It was better than I thought it was gonna be? Like this is what I want my romcoms to be like. Also, the music is pretty great- I’m gonna be singing “On My Way” for the next like 3 weeks.
