You should talk about the cutie mark crusaders and what you like about each of them!!!
oh I'd love to!! 🍎🌸🎀💛🔔🎶🛴🧡⚡
I love how applejack gave them her old clubhouse to use and that it's located in sweet apple acres, I like the idea of applejack coming to check on them sometimes or maybe bringing them freshly baked cookies from time to time 🍪🧡 and how fun wouldn't it be to play together amongst all the apple trees (when they aren't busy crusading ofcourse! 😄)
the cmc in general: they turned something they were teased for and that used to weigh them down into something they could bond over and in turn made a life long friendship stronger than the toughest of diamonds 💎👑 later inspiring and helping others who are unsure of their destinies just as they were and I think that is so powerful! the episode call of the cutie is a great introduction that really leaves you wanting to see what they're going to do next and how they will achieve their goal 🧡💛💜
they're the sisters of rarity, rainbow dash and applejack! which makes for some great episodes featuring them all together. sleepless in ponyville, the cart before the ponies & campfire tales for example! spending so much time together would not only bring them closer with their sisters but it probably brought applejack, rarity and rainbow dash closer too, and I love that!
all of their songs are great! their voices blend together very nicely in my opinion. Amanda Renberg as Scootaloo, Linn Johnsson as Apple Bloom and Annelie Heed as Sweetie Belle all did a wonderful job voicing their characters in the iconic trio! (ofcourse this is from my perspective, and those are the swedish voices but the same can be said for the original english ones!😊) my personal favourites of the cmc songs are babs seed, hearts as strong as horses, find the purpose in your life and all of the songs in the crusaders of the lost mark (& they are all so fun to sing!) 🎵
youtube
favourite cmc episode: crusaders of the lost mark! all of their searching finally paying off, helping their bully to see her purpose and the fact that their special talent turns out to be helping others find/rediscover their own special talent is just PERFECT, we were all wondering how it would turn out right? and this was just better than every other potential outcome, they all belong together to help others find themselves, just as they did! 🥺😌🧡💜💛
Apple bloom 🍎🌸: has my favourite colour scheme, she reminds me of apple flavoured candy, I'm also biased towards anything fruit themed! and I adore her bow!! 🍎💛🎀 I can relate to her fear of being alone the episode on your marks and also to how she's scared at one point that her family won't like her if she turns out to be different to them (when she's scared her cutie mark won't be apple related). and I love her relationship with her family, the end of family appreciation day and brotherhooves social just warms my heart! 💛🍎💚🥧 also I love the cupcake song scene where she's baking with pinkie and that she got interested in potions and magic after meeting zecora! (also the fact that she as a foal was the first to befriend zecora and not be so judgmental!!)
favourite apple bloom episode: (oh glitter all of these are so hard to pick!! 🤣 but I think cutie pox, somepony to watch over me or call of the cutie 🍎🌸💛🎀
scootaloo⚡🛴🧡: I actually have only watched flight to the finish once because while it has been dubbed I somehow missed it (and can't find the whole episode in swedish, only the songs) but I have watched it on my latest rewatch (where I watched it in english :) and I love it so much, I'm not physically disabled myself, I am mentally disabled (though I feel really weird saying that for some reason) but I think scootaloo is a really great disabled character because being disabled is not her whole character, far from, and I think there should be more characters like her! I also think she's really funny, her scooter tricks are awesome and I adore her idolizing rainbow dash and wishing for her to be her sister and then in sleepless in ponyville when she's scared of rainbow dash not thinking she's cool enough then rainbow admits that she's scared sometimes too and that it doesn't make her weak and then she like adopts her as her sister and aaaaaaaahhh!!! I love found family story lines so much, also the episodes parental glideance in season 7 and the washouts in season 8 broke my heart and then put it back together! 😂🌈🧡⚡and I love how she stood up for herself and what she wants to her parents in the last crusade in season 9, people often disregard kids feelings because they're "just kids" and I think scootaloo is a really strong pony for doing what she did in that episode 🧡🛴
sweetie belle 🎶💗🔔: she's just precious! her singing voice is so beautiful and I like how she has a hard time speaking up and putting together words sometimes because I can relate and it's really funny! I love sisterhooves social and I laugh every time I watch that scene where she argues with rarity and comes to the conclusion that applejack should be rarity's sister so she can teach her how to be a good one 😂 oh or when apple bloom allows her to "borrow" applejack as a sister for "ONE DAY"-🍎🌸 to me she is a very caring pony and maybe the most relatable of the 3 to me personally (all though saying that I feel like I find all of them relatable but in different ways)
favourite scootaloo episode: flight to the finish, I think! 🏁🧡
favourite sweetie belle episode: I want to say sisterhooves social but I also love for whom the sweetie belle toils 🔔💗🎶
so those are some of my thoughts on the cmc! thank you so much anon for making me write this and inspire me to draw the cutie mark crusaders, I love these little foals so much! 🥺😄💗🧡💛

Mahina || Part 2
Summary: You're a mystery to Jungkook. His newfound interest in you continues to grow, and he's determined to learn everything about you. genre: smut, fluff, angst word count: 5,216 tags: idol!au, fantasy!au
PART 1
This was probably a mistake.
Jungkook hasn't stopped thinking about you, dreaming about you. Your scent leaves him absolutely intoxicated and he's not willing to go without you for much longer.
Herein lies the problem: Jungkook hasn't had a moment alone with you since the day in the gym. It's only been a week, and shortly after you left him he found himself longing for more. It's the closest he's ever been to high, he's sure of it. Because of that, every time he sees you he has to hold himself back from dragging you away and taking you in the nearest empty room.
Your interactions together have been predominantly professional. You finished the rest of the solo shots and have been around to film Bangtan Bombs, taking pictures whenever you feel it would be appropriate. You've maintained your composure in front of him, not for lack of hurting Jungkook's feelings. He feels dumb for feeling like you're uninterested now, but every time you use words that don't give any indication of your attraction to him, he feels as though you're over it. Maybe you are, it wouldn't be the first time a woman left him after the first night.
Jungkook can feel that he's spacing out, his eyes are wide but he can't draw them away from the floor. His head is spinning in circles with thoughts of you. Both memories of the other day and the potential his fears have to coming to fruition.
He hears his name being called, so he tries his best to shake himself out of the trance he's in. Glancing up, he sees you.
Nearly jumping out of his skin, he scoots back and stands from his chair, doing a mid bow, "H- hey! How's it going?"
"Calm down Mr. Jeon, there's no need for the formalities." you giggle, grasping an apple from the bowl of fruit on the table. The commons area is empty, the only sound being the water cooler bubbling occasionally as it refills.
Jungkook furrows his eyebrows, "You just called me Mr. Jeon but don't want formalities?"
"Because you're my boss," you shrug, "I'm supposed to call you Mr. Jeon."
"Well, stop. It makes me feel old." Jungkook has to hide his grin when he notices the concern on your face. So you do still care.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset." your lips are turned down in a frown, your shoulders slumping slightly. Today, you're wearing a white T-shirt, your red bra showing slightly through the thin material. It's not something that's extremely noticeable, only if Jungkook stared. Which he did, he couldn't help himself now that he's seen you without clothes.
Sympathy crosses Jungkook's face, "Oh no, _____. You didn't upset me, I was just teasing you."
Your frown twitches, "That's mean."
"You're mean." Jungkook retaliates.
"How am I the mean one here?" you fight, your jaw dropping and arms flying up in question.
"Because you haven't spoke to me normally since we fu-" Jungkook doesn't have the chance to finish his sentence, because your hands fly to his mouth. This is the first time you've touched him in a week, and he is reeling instantly.
"You can't just say that," you whisper, your eyes watching the door, "someone could hear you. Then what? I get fired?"
Jungkook didn't think about that.
"Listen. I like you, Jungkook, but we can't go around announcing what we did. My job is on the line if others find out, but you'll get a slap on the wrist," you finally move your hand, and Jungkook's skin burns where you once rested, "just think about that before staring at me like you want to devour me in a meeting full of higher ups."
"I did that?" he feels his face burn red.
"You practically undressed me with your eyes. That's why I haven't been interacting with you much." your words are scolding but your tone is light. Jungkook feels like he's in trouble but doesn't expect a punishment, much like when his mom would find out he sneaked candy into school when he was younger. Nothing is actually going to happen to him. He kind of wants something to happen to him though.
"You liked it though, didn't you?"
Bold, he thinks to himself, good job, Jungkook.
Your stance falters for a moment, a glint shining in your eye, "Liked what?"
"The fact that I can't stop thinking about you," Jungkook starts, reaching his hand forward and stroking your cheekbone with his thumb, "the fact that your wet cunt is the greatest thing I've ever felt, and I can't wait to be inside you again."
He sees your eyes widen, glancing over to the door again. Jungkook suddenly feels a sense of jealousy, the fact that your mind is somewhere other than with him causes him to whine audibly. He keeps his ears trained for footsteps, dragging your attention back to him. "Don't look at the door, look at me."
Your eyes move from the door, straight to him. His thumb moves to your lips, "Such a pretty girl. I want to kiss you so bad."
His earlier fear has disappeared, replaced with a sudden need. He doesn't want you, no. He needs you. He needs to feel you against him, to hear you moan, to whisper your name in your ear as he cums. He leans down and presses a gentle kiss to your lips. Because despite desperately wanting to bend you over the table and fuck you into oblivion, your job is more important. He doesn't want to get in the way of your career.
"You think I'm pretty?" you whisper against his lips.
"Ethereal." he responds.
He begins to kiss you again, this time with much more need than before. How could you ask such a silly question? Of course he thinks you're gorgeous. So gorgeous, in fact, that he questions whether you have some sort of otherworldly disposition, like an angel sent from above. He's never come across someone as inherently perfect as you.
Just when your tongue slips into his mouth, Jungkook hears heavy footsteps. He pulls away abruptly, slipping his hand from your face to behind his neck, scratching nervously.
You back away and pick up your camera, pointing it at Jungkook. He looks at you, and he smiles. A simple one, hiding the thoughts behind his eyes. He makes sure his teeth show, because he knows everybody loves his teeth.
"Perfect, Jungkook," you say as Seokjin enters the room, "now if you come up with any other domestic or casual themes just let me know."
"Domestic or casual?" Seokjin laughs, "Jungkookie, what are you telling this poor woman?"
"What?" Jungkook chuckles nervously, "I can be domestic."
"Perceived, maybe. But actually be domestic? Impossible." Seokjin fills up a glass of water and chugs. Jungkook glances toward you and you raise an eyebrow. He decides he'll explain later.
"Hey, _____. You should take a picture of my reflection in a spoon." Seokjin holds up a large spoon, staring at the concave reflection.
"Why would I do that?"
"For the humor! Come on, you need to lighten up." Seokjin turns the spoon around and Jungkook glances at you, before shaking his head with a laugh and walking out of the room.
~*~*~
"So you have a thing for the photographer?" Yoongi suddenly asks in the dorms that night, causing Jungkook to swallow.
"What makes you say that?" Jungkook's immediate defensiveness doesn't seem to make him sound innocent. Yoongi tosses his head back and lets out a breathy laugh, "Because you licked your lips in her direction like 30 times today."
"I didn't have any chapstick."
Yoongi shakes his head, "I get it, she's hot, but is she 'ruin-your's-and-her's-career-for-some-pussy' hot?"
"That's awfully derogatory, Hyung." Jungkook bites back his jealousy.
"For real, though. If you're gonna risk it, you might as well stop being such a wimp about it." Yoongi usually isn't one to offer his advice unwarranted. When Jungkook was younger, he saw Yoongi as this mysterious-sensei like figure that only spoke when asked questions he found interesting. Similarly, whenever Jungkook was struggling morally, Yoongi was his go-to. He certainly had to trek to his studio and beg to be let in for any advice.
"Nah, I'm not into her," Jungkook lies through his teeth, "she's pretty and all but she's all work and no play."
"Really? She seemed pretty playful in my studio the other day." Yoongi mentions casually, taking a sip of some nasty lager he ordered from Germany.
Jungkook grips the edge of the couch, taking a subtle breath when he notices a glint in Yoongi's eyes. "Really?" he tries his hardest to hide his annoyance, "what happened?"
"She was bent over the table, playing with all the knobs and buttons on my mixer," Yoongi smirks, "asking me all sorts of questions. 'What's this one do?' and 'What about this one?'" he raises his tone mockingly, "such a curious girl. Sometimes I wonder if she's seen technology at all."
"Yeah, it's like the only thing she knows is her camera." Jungkook fakes a laugh.
"Makes me wonder if I should ask her to take playgirl pictures of me for my own keepsake. I wouldn't mind her seeing me naked."
"Alright! I'm going to bed. Nice talk, Yoongi."
Jungkook stands abruptly, moving to step over Yoongi's legs, but he's stopped by Yoongi's hand gripping his calf. "I knew you had a thing for her!"
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Jungkook shakes his leg from Yoongi's grip, crossing his arms over his shirtless torso. Yoongi stands up, "I saw you two making out in the commons room today."
Jungkook feels his entire body go numb, "We weren't making out," he scoffs, "she had something in her teeth."
"So you were trying to get it out with your tongue?"
"Yoongi!" Jungkook is never the one to scold, but he can't stop himself.
"Relax buddy, your secret is safe with me. I even stalled Seokjin from interrupting you two." Yoongi seems so casual, like he's not currently holding life-altering information in his hands.
"So you don't want her to shoot you naked?" Jungkook's embarrassed that this is his first thought.
"Nah I wouldn't do that to you." Yoongi grins, his eyes disappearing behind his happiness.
Jungkook pouts, "No one can know."
"I know, I heard the conversation."
"You listened in on us?!" He raises his voice, quickly quieting down once he realizes how late it is.
Yoongi laughs, "Yeah."
~*~*~
Ten hours later, Jungkook is back at the Hybe building. He managed to get some sleep after the conversation with Yoongi. If anything, he feels slightly better that someone knows and therefore he has someone to talk about it with. Jungkook has wanted nothing more than to talk about it, and since it's so difficult to catch you, Yoongi was his best bet. He spends a while talking to him about how weirdly connected he feels to you. Like it goes beyond lust, but he's not exactly sure what that beyond is.
Yoongi encourages Jungkook to speak to you about it, but Jungkook is still unsure. He's only known you a week. A glorious week, but a week nonetheless. Jungkook fears an admission of how he's feeling will scare you away and push you into nothing more than just a photographer. As he spoke to Yoongi, he realized that in his copious amount of spacing out and Maladaptive Daydreaming, he's pictured himself taking you out on a date. No sex, no lust, just good food and wine.
This is how he knows there's a connection.
So, as he rides the elevator up to the 13th floor, he nervously adjusts his button up. Deciding to skip his work out this morning, he's dressed himself in torn skinny jeans and folded his sleeves up to look as suave as he can. He realizes that his muscles clearly show beneath the silk fabric of his shirt, and he smiles. He hopes you like it.
Wandering down the hall after a grueling 3 minute elevator ride, he arrives at the office you claimed. He's never been in here, nor does he know what you do in here, but he's excited to see how you've made it your own.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
No answer.
Knock knock knock.
Nothing.
He presses his ear to the door and can hear you. You're whispering to someone, your voice sounding urgent and annoyed.
"I know, Mother. I am trying but there's only so much I can do in this form."
"Well you need to try harder. Earth is wearing on you." Another voice says, and it sounds as if they're in the room. Jungkook doesn't recognize the voice as any of the staff.
What are they talking about?
Knockknockknock!
He tries once more for good measure and hears you gasp, then a loud thud. You scramble to the door, and Jungkook backs away just in time for you to open it.
Your hair is wild, and for a moment Jungkook swears he sees your skin a slight blue tone. Blowing a stray strand of hair out of your face, you smile, "What's up, Jungkook?"
He raises an eyebrow, "What, uh- what's going on in there?"
"Oh, nothing. Zoom meetings, you know the drill." a small burst of wind comes from behind you, shaking the loose shirt around your torso. Weird, he didn't think you'd open the window with how hot it is outside. You bite your lip, "What can I do for you?"
Jungkook feels nervousness at his trembling hands. He glances down the hallway and sees a door beginning to open, "Can I come in?"
You glance behind you, then nod, opening the door wider.
Jungkook slips in quickly, closing the door behind him.
"So, what's up?" You plop down onto your chair, an editing software Jungkook is unfamiliar with displayed on your monitor.
Jungkook lets out a breath he didn't realize he was holding in. Softly, he speaks, "Can I make you dinner?"
A grin stretches across your face, "Like a date?"
"Yes, like a date." Jungkook mirrors your grin.
"Then obviously," you move from your chair and straddle his thighs, on the couch he placed himself on, "I would be thrilled."
"Oh yeah?" Jungkook brings you down to his mouth, his tongue massaging against yours. The heat from your body sears into his, trapping him against the couch. He thinks he may faint from your proximity. His hands roam your back, his fingers dipping beneath the hem of your shirt to play with your hot skin and listening to the sounds of content coming out of your mouth, slightly muffled by his own.
As he brings his fingers up your back, he feels the bottom of the scars he saw the last time you were in this position. Just as he's about to ask about them, he feels you grind onto his thigh. He flexes, and you gasp into his mouth.
"You like thigh riding?" Jungkook murmurs, his voice deep and rough. He can hear you whimpering as you move your hips again. He glances down and sees your jeans rutting against you. Sliding his hands to the button of your pants, he undoes it, "That can't be comfortable, baby. Take your pants off."
You gasp as he unzips your jeans, "I don't want to get your pants wet."
He bites back a moan at how incredibly dirty that sounds. You already sound fucked out, as though he's made you cum 5 times. It seems the affect you have on him aligns with the affect he has on you.
"I'll take off my pants, too. I want you to get yourself off on my thigh."
You both move quickly to pull off your bottoms. The moment you're free, you place yourself back on Jungkook's thigh and begin riding. His lips travel up and down your neck, stopping at the base of your collarbone and nibbling gently. The moan you illicit is so hot that Jungkook almost pulls you off of his thigh and directly on his dick. Almost.
He can't bare to remove you from your pleasure as your face contorts into complete and utter bliss. Smiling, he makes sure his hands roam close to your inner thighs, flexing his thigh every once in a while for an added amount of pressure against your wet cunt. He doesn't think he's ever been this hard before, watching you with eyes as wide as saucers while you come undone above him, your orgasm giving you literal chills. Goosebumps rise on your skin while you call his name out repeatedly.
"Fuck." Jungkook whispers, "Get on your knees. Now."
"Yes sir." you breathe, falling to your knees in between Jungkook's thighs.
As you reach forward, Jungkook slaps your hand away.
"One touch and I'm coming, so make it count."
Your cheeks are warm against his hands, your eyes blown out as you still tingle from your release. You reach forward, slipping his boxers off of his waist and licking your lips when you see his cock spring free. There's a sudden cuteness to your expression, as though you've never had your tongue this close to a cock before. However, the moment you place your lips around the tip, he can tell that isn't the case.
"God damn it, baby," he instantly thrusts upward, causing you to gag. He looks down with a sheepish smile, "I'm sorry."
You shake your head, "Choke me with your cock."
Jungkook is in utter euphoria. With one swift thrust, he is releasing down your throat. You sputter around him, your throat contracting repeatedly as you swallow his cum.
"Holy shit." He whispers as you pull off, a string of saliva connecting you to him.
You pull yourself to him, resting your head on his shoulder. He strokes your inner thigh, his large hand enjoying the thickness of your thigh. He loves having something to hold on to.
"I got all dressed up for you and you managed to get me half naked in less than 10 minutes." Jungkook jokes, feeling your hand stroke his chest.
You giggle, "Next time it'll be all the way naked in 5 minutes."
~*~*~
Jungkook has never prepared a meal as good as the one sitting on the table in front of him.
He spent hours creating pasta from scratch. Mixing the dough, watching it proof, cutting it by hand (because he really couldn't figure out how to attach the extension to Seokjin's way-too-expensive mixer), and boiling it to a perfect Al Dente texture. He created the sauce entirely from scratch as well, staring with a heavy cream and adding Parmesan and various seasonings until it somewhat resembled an Alfredo sauce. He's not entirely sure how he ended up here, but he watched a video about it like 3 years ago on one of those nights that he just couldn't fall asleep and it has stuck with him ever since.
Now that's steaming on the table, he anxiously awaits your arrival.
He rented a small house on the country side, the private beach just behind the fancy Air BNB being the main attraction to him. He hasn't swam in the ocean in years for fear that someone could recognize him, and he misses the feeling of the salty water against his skin. He hopes you're willing to join him for a dip later on in the evening.
After consulting Yoongi on what his plan should be, he said you seem like the type of person who enjoys simplicity. So, he made the most simple meal he could think of, while simultaneously throwing as much work into it as he could.
Just as he begins to worry about the food going cold before you arrive, the doorbell rings.
He runs to the door, before pausing at the floor length mirror by the shoe closet and checking his appearance. His movements stutter for a second, and he reaches his hands to the buttons on his shirt, undoing the top three. Smirking, he turns and opens the door.
And his jaw drops.
The dress you wear is floor length, silver sequins shining all the way up to the 'V' line, exposing just enough cleavage to be sexy. Your skin glows beneath the setting sun, a smile on your face that's bright enough to blind Jungkook.
"Flies are gonna get in your mouth if you keep it open like that, ya know." you step into the doorway, taking 2 fingers and lifting Jungkook's jaw up. He swallows the little bit of saliva he began to feel collecting on his tongue.
"You look gorgeous." he says after a moment of collecting himself, stepping to the side and allowing you to walk all the way in.
Your eyes trail Jungkook's body up and down, stilling at his skinny jeans.
"Sorry," you breathe, "I just got flashbacks of yesterday in my office."
Jungkook hides his victorious smile, "If you're a good girl and eat your dinner, I'll let you do it again."
"I'll do whatever you say, sir." your voice is low, seductive. It carries through Jungkook's ears like a soft whisper, and it excites him immediately. He swallows his excitement, though, because tonight is about getting to know you.
So, as you sit at the dining table and watch Jungkook begin to plate your food, he speaks, "Where are you from?"
His question seems to shock you and your quiet for a moment. Raising his eyebrow, he plates his own food and sits across from you.
"Here." you say simply.
"Where's 'here'?" Jungkook retorts, watching as you twirl pasta around your fork. You take a big bite, and Jungkook prays you enjoy it. When your face lights up, Jungkook releases a breath he didn't even realize he was holding in.
"This is so good Jungkook, where did you get it?" you ask, digging in and taking another bite.
"I made it." He replies proudly.
"Nuh-uh," you tease, "this tastes like it's straight from Italy. Ain't no way you didn't use your fancy BTS powers and get this flown here straight from Gordon Ramsey's kitchen."
"Fancy BTS powers?" Jungkook laughs.
"Yeah! You're, like-" you gesture wildly, "thing you got going on. The whole 'I'm a celebrity and everyone gets on their knees for me' thing that you can do."
"What are you talking about?" Jungkook asks incredulously, humor lacing his tone.
"You know what I mean." you pout, pushing more pasta into your mouth.
Jungkook takes the quick silence to take his first bite.
Okay, he did a good job.
Swallowing, he licks his lips clean of sauce. He doesn't miss the smile on your face when his tongue pokes out. "Don't think you've distracted me from the question. Where did you grow up?"
You roll your eyes, "I grew up in a regular old house. Nothing special about my childhood."
"You're lying."
"What makes you say that?"
"You can't be as incredibly talented as you are without having something interesting happen to you as you grew up." Jungkook knows his theory has flaws but he's hoping his words are enough to make you feel comfortable enough to open up to him more.
You mull over his words for a moment. Jungkook is trying his hardest to read you, because for the first time since he's met you, you seem nervous. You're tenser than usual, your legs crossed and your hand gripping the fork hard enough for your knuckles to turn white. Why on Earth would a simple question cause you this much distress? He doesn't know what to say, and he's scared to opt for changing the subject. So, he waits.
"My parents are from two entirely different back rounds," you begin, setting down your fork and loosening your posture, "like, really different. My mom has always been better off than my dad was. When she was younger, she wore a crown on her head that was completely encrusted in diamonds."
Jungkook's eyes widen, "So was she really wealthy?"
"Still is," you explain, "but she's really branched off on her materialistic possessions. She often craves for her children to be as prepared and well off as she was."
"Oh," he says, a minute response now that he's getting what he wanted. He just wants to hear more, "you said 'was' when speaking of your dad, did he pass?"
You smile sadly, "Ages ago."
"What was he like?"
A beat of time passes and Jungkook feels his heart thud. He's aching for you, for your loss. He's watching as painful memories cross over your features.
"Like I said, he grew up completely different from my mom. He was a Shepard and worked really hard to get as far as he got. He met my mom when he was 17 and immediately fell in love with her, and not long after she got pregnant with lil' old me." you grin brightly, hiding your earlier sadness and posing with your hands beneath your chin.
Despite your cutesy pose, Jungkook feels his curiosity growing, "How did he pass?"
"Jeeze, all these questions," you laugh sheepishly, and your sadness returns, "My parents separated shortly after I was born. I spent the spring and summer months with my mother and fall and winter with my father. One Spring, I got a call that my father had been in an accident. It was really long ago so I can't remember details, but he died shortly after that."
"I- I'm so sorry." Jungkook whispers, "that's horrific."
"Life goes on," you inhale through your nose, "enough about me. Tell me how you chose BigHit when all those companies were after you."
Jungkook allows the subject change to roll through, nervous that his curiosity may have offended you. He tells you about his early years, explaining that he's always had a dream of becoming a singer. His parents struggled financially when he was a kid, so he insisted on getting rich so he could help them out. Now that he's an adult, and he is rich (though he hates to label himself as such), he doesn't know what to do with his money. He paid off his parents' house and bought them both new cars, he makes sure that all of their wants are taken care of.
At first his mother tried to refuse his gifts, stating that he had earned it himself therefore he should use it on himself. At this point they were 4 years into the band, the first little while they didn't make nearly as much money as other idol groups did. As soon as he got his first decent check, he immediately spent it on his parents. He's grateful for his mother's concern, but he always told him he was going to take care of them. His parents have learned to just accept the gifts he brings them, but they still haven't blatantly asked for help.
You laugh when Jungkook says he has to become a private investigator when he wants to know how his parents are doing. If there's ever a problem, he has to figure it out for himself because his father has too much pride to ask for help from his son. Jungkook knows they are grateful for everything that he has done for them, but he doesn't want gratitude. He wants them to be happy.
The rest of the meal goes smoothly after that, laughter being shared as you both speak about your lives. It seems as though your earlier admissions about you family life has eased your discomfort with talking about yourself. You tell Jungkook a story about how your mother came down to your father's farm for a week while she was pregnant, just to see how he lived his work life, and was quickly bombarded with 12 sheep as he opened the gate.
When the plates are cleared, Jungkook glances towards the beach, "Want to go on a walk?"
You smile, "Please."
He takes your hand and leads you out of the house and onto the beach. You don't seem to mind that your dress drags in the sand, because you're quick to kick off your heels and sink your feet into the ground.
"Ah," you sigh happily, "I love the way the Earth feels."
Jungkook can't wipe the smile off of his face while he scrunches his nose, "As opposed to Pluto?"
"Yes!" you give his hand a squeeze, "Pluto is too cold to enjoy, even for me."
Jungkook swings your hands together while you approach the water, "You speak as though you've been there."
You seem shy for a moment, "In my dreams."
"So, in your dreams," Jungkook humors you, "you've been to Pluto and stayed long enough to develop a negative opinion about it?"
"If you felt the things I felt, you'd hate Pluto too." you defend, taking your hand away from his and plopping onto the wet sand. Your dress, albeit expensive and pretty, looks even better on you when wet. Jungkook doesn't hesitate to sit in the small waves with you.
"NASA hated Pluto enough to declassify it as a planet, so at least someone agrees with you."
You scrunch your nose, "You're a dork."
Jungkook fakes offense, pushing your shoulder lightly.
You fall backward, dramatically splashing into the water. Jungkook gasps, jumping forward and grabbing your arms, pulling you out of the water. "I didn't mean for you to fall in!"
You let out a giggle, before disappearing under the water again. You slip from Jungkook's hands and swim away, Jungkook losing sight of you under the foamy waves. He swims further out, far enough that the water stands to his chest, and twists around to look for you.
A dark shadow appears just beside him, a clear human shape. He chuckles, leaping forward to capture you but just before he goes under the water, he hears you whisper his name behind him.
"Jungkook~" you sing when he pulls himself out of the water.
He whips his head towards you but there's no one there. He feels a tap on his shoulder, then he sees you on the opposite side of him. Wiping the water off his face, he forces himself to process the last few seconds.
"How did you do that?!" he asks loudly.
"Do what?" you feign innocence.
"You were there," Jungkook points behind him, "then you were there," he points to the left of him, "and now you're here."
"I swim fast." you shrug, dipping beneath the water once more.
Jungkook doesn't get a chance to question you more because as you pop up from the water, your arms lock around the back of his neck, and you press your lips to his.
His mind goes blank, and all he can feel is you.
He pushes your dress up far enough to free your legs, your thighs moving to wrap around his waist. His hands hold you up, and you continue to kiss while he walks the two of you up to the beach. Collapsing onto the ground, he holds himself up above you as you disconnect your lips.
"Thank you for everything tonight, Jungkook."
Jungkook can't help his face turning red, "Anytime, baby."
With that, he connects your lips again and revels in the feeling of your body against his.

A Favor: Part Seven
Nessian Modern AU
Masterlist
a/n: so this chapter doesn't exactly have a hay bale maze but it has something even better :)
***
Being a legal consultant is surprisingly easy.
Years of studying business law in order to take down big corporations in the courtroom is now being used to help a big corporation— Nesta wants to be disgusted at the state of her morals. Fortunately for her, all the issues that have come across her desk so far are minor negotiation matters. The way Night Court Inc. is run is virtually perfect, and she almost hopes a blatant lawsuit drops into her lap just so she can give Rhysand and his sycophantic workers hell.
Though Nesta knows better than to dream big. This is essentially busy work that Night Court’s actual lawyers don't have time to do, but she's grateful for it either way. She's grateful for the man who got her this job even more.
When her car finally gets back from the auto shop one sunny November morning, Cassian suggests they go out to celebrate.
“Celebrate what?” Nesta says. “Not having to rely on you for rides anymore?”
“Exactly that.” Cassian grins and leans his elbow against the kitchen counter. “There’s a fall festival an hour north of here that pops up every year. There's good food and hot cider. Let’s go.” He nudges her excitedly.
Nesta narrows her eyes at him. “You’ve been planning this,” she accuses.
“I go every year,” he shrugs. “Come on, we have the whole day ahead of us.”
He makes pleading puppy eyes that have absolutely no effect on Nesta, but she doesn't want to hurt his ego by letting him know that.
There is nothing appealing to her about going out into the cold and doing autumn-related activities, so she surprises herself and Cassian both when she agrees to go. He rewards her with a wide smile and tells her to get ready.
Nesta feels oddly giddy afterward. She can't recognize the feeling, so she tamps down on it while she gets dressed and braids her hair.
Outside, her burgeoning smile drops when she sees Cassian getting the truck started. “I thought the point of this was that we could use my car now.” She gestures to her beat up blue sedan, a sad little thing parked next to Cassian’s fancy truck.
“Nes, if I thought your car could go anywhere near a mountain road without falling to pieces, I would get in it without hesitation.”
It's as close to apologetic sympathy as she’ll get from him, so she only grumbles a little before climbing into the passenger seat she's gotten all too familiar with.
The door slams as Cassian gets in the driver’s seat, and something on the dashboard catches Nesta’s attention. Reaching out, she picks up one of her coloring books and her zipper bag full of markers and pencils.
She glances at Cassian. “Is this for me?”
He looks up from where he’s buckling his seatbelt. “Oh, I just picked it up on my way out. Cell signal gets spotty the closer we get to the mountains, so you might get bored.”
Nesta looks down at the coloring book she's clutching, surprised.
“Did you want anything else before we leave?” Cassian says. “I can run inside and pick up some books.”
“No— no, this is good,” she says softly. She flips the page open to a fresh landscape scene, black on white lines staring back at her. “Thank you.”
She unzips her pencil bag with a new reverence, barely noticing as they pull out of the driveway and head for the highway leading out of town.
Nesta is intent on her coloring the entire ride, falling far too easily into that little bubble of her own mind where she forgets that other things and people exist. Cassian, unlike most people, doesn't seem to mind this. He's content with driving in the quiet, the only sound the soft crackle of the radio and the scratch of Nesta’s pencils.
She’s trying to get the blue shades of the lake just right when she feels the truck start to slow, and she looks up to see that they're in some kind of parking lot. Ahead, a market-carnival setup sits at the base of the mountains, and it sprawls as far as her eyes can see. “We’re here already?”
“Yeah.” Cassian glances at her hesitantly. “Is it lame?” He gestures to the autumn-themed affair, as if he’ll turn around and drive them right back home if it isn't to Nesta’s liking.
Nesta can’t pay the festival any attention yet. “I’m not done with this picture yet,” she says simply. She holds it up for Cassian to see, even though he probably can't tell that the mostly-completed picture is still missing a couple of details.
He just says, “We’ll wait till you're finished, then.”
She brightens with relief, and takes her time adjusting the colors of the landscape to her liking. As soon as she's satisfied with what she has, though, she throws her pencils and book down like they're on fire and grabs her coat. “Let's go,” she demands.
If Cassian is surprised at her sudden change of pace, he hides it well and follows Nesta onto the fairground. “Slow down,” he calls for her.
Perhaps the fall season isn't terrible, Nesta thinks as they buy warm candied apples. The air smells nice and the weather is brisk and Cassian stands so close to her that she never quite gets cold.
It feels almost like a date.
Nesta glances at Cassian from the corner of her eye as she chews on her apple. Wind ruffles his hair and his brown cheeks are flushed red, but he looks content. It's too bad they're just friends, because this would have been a nice date.
She has to stop her train of thought before she gets distracted by how Cassian’s hand isn't holding anything, and how her hand isn't holding anything, and maybe their hands should—
She makes a fist with her free hand and shoves it into her coat pocket. This is why she doesn't usually have friends, she remembers— because she can never stop hungering for more.
Nesta and Cassian’s not-date is spent with Cassian throwing his money at every other thing he sees on sale, and Nesta biting her tongue at the unnecessary waste of it all.
“Eight dollars for a cup of cider? Come on, you're being scammed.” Nesta pulls at his elbow, trying to lead him away from the drinks stand.
“But it comes in one of those cute little jars,” Cassian protests as he’s pulled away.
There’s a laughably small hay-bale maze that they complete in less than three minutes, thanks to Cassian being tall enough to see over the hay bales. Then there’s a ferris wheel that Nesta adamantly refuses to get onto, regardless of how high it goes or not. And then, without either of them noticing, the sun starts slipping behind the mountains.
With her arms full of bags of snacks and random knickknacks that she’ll never need in her life, Nesta finds herself back in the market area.
There’s a painting at an art stand that has caught her attention. Something about the brush strokes and choice of color palette… it reminds her of Feyre’s art style. Amateur, but warm and comforting, clearly made with love and dedication. She approaches the elder salesman carefully, only wanting a closer look at the piece.
It’s of a glittering forest in the peak of autumn, ruby and flame-colored leaves littering the scene. An unwalked pathway cuts through the scene, and a longing Nesta can’t place swells in her stomach.
“My daughter painted this one,” the salesman says to her, pride peeking through his voice. She glances up at the kind-faced man. “Only this one?” she asks. The rest of the paintings don’t have the same art style, Feyre’s style.
“Yes.” He places a protective hand over the canvas. “She’s still learning, but she’s got heart and potential. One day she’ll be a better artist than me.”
Nesta blinks at his words. “How much is it?”
“How much do you have?”
She looks down at her hands full of shopping bags and realizes not one of them is carrying her wallet. “Oh, I must have left my money with my—” She glances up then and looks around. “Cassian?”
He was just here with her. They were walking together and she took note of the pretty fairy lights that were starting to turn on, and then she saw the art stand. She scans the milling crowd for a glimpse of his face, but it’s five p.m. and fully dark now.
Unease starts to pump in her chest. “Cassian?” she calls again. She wanders away from the art stand, painting and salesman forgotten. Maneuvering her full hands, she wrangles her phone out of her back pocket and turns it on. Just as she suspected— no signal. Waving it high in the air doesn’t do much for her either.
Shoving her phone back in her pocket, Nesta takes a strained breath and resolves to keep looking. If she can’t find him, she can always make her way back to the parking lot—
Something shoves hard into Nesta’s back, and her glasses slip right off her nose in the collision. She feels a metallic crunch under her boot and gasps. Suddenly there are people everywhere, heading in the opposite direction that she is, and whoever bumped into her yells a quick apology that gets lost in the crush of bodies.
Nesta stumbles out of the crowd, blinking quickly. She can’t see a thing, and the fairy lights are now blurry orbs. “My glasses—” she says to nobody. She scans the flattened grass and dirt furiously, squinting until she gets a headache, but she can’t find them. “Shit.”
She ends up roaming out of the market area, finding herself back on the fairgrounds. There are a few tents around her, but they're empty and the noise has died down. She doesn’t know where she’s going.
At one point, Nesta simply drops her bags and keeps walking without them. She barely notices leaving them behind. The magic has drained out of the festival, and she just wants to find her way back to Cassian’s truck. If the ferris wheel is that way, then the exit should be that way… she thinks.
She looks around in the dark, frustrated tears rising at her inability to recognize anything. She's alone. She’s cold. She was abandoned.
Nesta doesn't know how long she stands there, hopeless in some deserted corner of the fairgrounds. She forgets what she's supposed to be doing, and just stands there staring at nothing. Escaping to a numbing void in her mind.
The desperate call of her name brings her back to earth.
Blinking, Nesta turns around to find a tall figure heading towards her. Cassian.
He’s holding something in his hand, she can tell, but he drops it when he sees her face and breaks into a run.
“Nesta!” Hard warmth crashes into her as strong arms grab her and yank her close. Her face presses into his chest, and hot tears fall despite the lingering numbness.
“Where did you go?” Cassian is demanding. “You had me so fucking scared—”
“I lost my glasses,” she says weakly into the wool of his coat.
“I know.” He goes from stroking her back to clutching her face. His thumbs rub at the wetness beneath her eyes, and finally she can see his face. He’s close enough that she can read every detail, their foreheads pressed tightly together. He isn't letting go.
She presses her lips together. “I lost you.”
“I know.”
In the next moment, Nesta feels everything all at once: Cassian’s heavy breath on her face, his fingers digging into her scalp, his hazel eyes looking relieved and apologetic and terrified at the same time. His heartbeat racing beneath her hands.
For the briefest eternity, Nesta and Cassian share the same mind. They are thinking the exact same thing.
There’s a moment of painful hesitation, where Nesta has the opportunity to pull away. She doesn't take it, and by then it's too late— Cassian’s mouth is on hers.
Oh. Oh.
Nesta buckles a little under the weight of his kiss, but he holds her upright with his grip. His fingers wind so tightly into her braid she worries he might undo the whole thing, but then she's tucking her cold hands into the warmth of his sweater and wow, what a wonderful end to a terrible night.
His lips break from hers for a breath, only to come in again and kiss her deeper this time. A helpless noise escapes from one or both of them. She’s unraveling with every stroke of his tongue, and she thinks distantly that if kisses were flavored, this one would be sweet enough to make her teeth ache.
It's over far too soon, with Cassian’s series of kisses slowing until they stop completely. He pulls back far enough that they both have room to breathe, and with oxygen comes sharp reality.
For once, Nesta has no words. Her thought process is a tape jammed on a few moments ago, so Cassian is the one that has to slowly drop his hands from her hair and clear his throat.
“Let's go home,” is all he says.
***
The drive back to the cabin is silent. Nesta puts her earbuds in and turns on music as soon as they get in the truck, and halfway home Cassian glances over and realizes she's fallen asleep.
His knuckles are white on the steering wheel, and it's a struggle to keep his eyes on the headlight-lit road ahead.
Losing track of Nesta with no way to contact her was one thing, but nothing scared Cassian more than when his eyes caught the metallic glint of broken gold rims in the trampled dirt of the marketplace.
After running from stall to stall searching for Nesta, only one man was able to give Cassian a straight answer. “She was looking at some art and then she went that way,” the old salesman pointed. “She seemed upset; I think she was looking for you.”
The pieces of Nesta's glasses sit in a bag in the backseat now, tucked alongside a canvas painting of an autumn landscape.
The relief Cassian felt when he found her in one piece, when she turned to him with the saddest eyes— he was more cemented in his feelings for her in that moment than in any late night he’d spent dreaming about her.
And when she looked at him like that, fighting not to cry… it was over for him. Weeks of restraint that he hadn't even noticed building up snapped at the last second, until he was kissing Nesta like it was his final dying wish. All of it, utterly over.
He glances over to her now, where she sleeps with her head against the fogged window, exhausted after the day she's had. His hands twitch with the temptation to reach out and touch her.
Gravel crunches as Cassian pulls up into the driveway, and he looks at Nesta again and sighs. He almost goes to wake her, but changes his mind at the last moment and gets out of the car instead. Circling around to the passenger side, he opens the door and carefully lifts her out of her seat.
Her head lolls against his chest, but she doesn't wake. Stress and high emotions have no doubt knocked her out for the rest of the night.
Realizing there's no way to unlock the front door while holding Nesta, Cassian has to circle around to the back of the cabin, entering through the open kitchen door and carrying her on silent feet up the stairs.
Once she's safely tucked in her bed, Cassian can relax his shoulders for the first time all night. Later, he sits down in the half-lit kitchen with Nesta’s broken glasses before him. The frame is split right down the middle, but he already knows Nesta won't allow him to get her a new pair. He’ll need wire and some pliers.
Tying his hair back, he settles down and gets to work.

Twisted Wonderland //Yandere Pomefiore//
Happy Holidays to @edda-blattfe and @maichiruhanabira/ @poisonepel hope you like this little gift! I think I went a little overbaord with Rook’s but hey it’s me what where you guys expecting?
Warning: Yandere themes, blood, slight gore.
Vil Schoenheitan
The arrogant prince conceals his lovesick notions behind a calm collected and narcissistic veil. To any oblivious onlooker, Vil is too wrapped up with himself and his astonishing beauty to ever even consider being interested in someone else. Even you, you'll never suspect that the evil prince has fallen all so deeply for you.
His attraction starts mild, It's nothing more than a slight peak of interest in the new girl. Something is dazzling about her, the glint in her eyes, the porcelain skin that stretches to cover her corps, the silky threads of her hair. She's gorgeous....but still not as gorgeous as she could be. It's then and there that he declares that his attraction is only one of concern, he has to help you look your best to reach your full potential! After all, he will soon be a king and a good king must be of aide to his less fortunate subjects!
He approaches you one day after class, inviting you to assist him with his latest batch of beauty products. You're not particularly given a chose in the matter, before you can even stutter out a reply he's grabbed your wrist just a little too tightly and is dragging you towards the Pomefiore dorms just a little too quickly. He makes you try on hundreds of different shades of every makeup know to mankind. Uses the sweetest smelling soaps to bathe you in. Washes your hair in shampoos and conditioners that all smell speciously like apples. When he's done you can practically feel how your body is shining, you've never felt this clean and pure in your life.
That's it that's all it is for the longest time. Vil takes the process slowly, he builds up your trust. Making you believe that he only has your best interest in mind. Soon you start to fall for him. How could you not? He's so generous and gorgeous, he's every girl's dream.
MY lovely (Y/N)
Vil wears the mask of the caring boyfriend, he gives you the most lavish and expensive gifts, designer dresses, custom made jewelry, he pays for so many extracurricular classes for you, such as different types of dance classes, piano, etiquette. He'll give you everything you've ever dreamed of on a silver platter accompanied by the sweetest compliments and most fragile kisses.
It all starts to border on over baring. It's all too much! You're slowly suffocating.
You want to leave him, your one true wish is to leave Vil but there is always something drawing you back. Every time you try to strike up the conversation with him regarding the topic, he offers you some type of gift usually in the form of a candy apple. After just the tiniest bite, your confidence starts to waver, you feel dizzy and can never remember why you wanted to break up with such a perfect man in the first place.
You will forever belong to me
Additional notes
Vil never forces himself onto you. He wants you to enjoy your more "intimate moments" with him. You'll have to show him very clear signs if you want him and are ready for him before he even considers touching you in that manner.
Vil's favorite punishments are exhibition and degradation. He spends so much time building up your confidence making you believe that you are truly the second most exquisite person in all of Night Raven. Only to crash it all down, to tell how revolting your appearance is how you're only beautiful because of the cosmetics he gives you and the lotions and perfumes you use. He'll deprive you of all of them. Which will cause you do go into a maniacal fit. You need those products, you need to be beautiful, Vil needs to only see you at your best.
As for exhibition, Vil will have no problem showing you off in your worst state. He'll make you leave the dorms and attend class with old ragged clothes, unwashed hair, and no makeup on. You'll be embarrassed and promise never to miss behave again. He's only doing this for you Vil reassures it's so your personality can become as beautiful as your face. But deep down you truly doubt it.
Epel Felmier
Epel is such a soft and obsessive yandere. All he wants is for his darling to be happy! He'll do anything, anything at all for you to just smile at him. Most times it even seems as though you're the one in control of this relationship. Epel will never harm his darling in any way, he'll pout and cry but never inflict any physical or psychological damage.
Vil and Rook will probably have to convince Epel to kidnap you. They claim it's for the best but the first year is so very hesitant. If he keeps you in his room like a caged bird he's depriving you of all the things that make you happy. It takes so much manipulation from the two, third years. They promise that this is the only way to keep his darling safe. That she can mingle with their darling whenever she desires. That all of this will only make her love Epel more!
Epel will shower you in lavish and adorable gifts, your room is practically one of a fairy tale princess. The color scheme is bright purple with violet lining and lavender undertones. Your closet is filled to the brim with dresses, ballroom gowns, and other "cutesie" clothes. Stuffed animals cover every inch of the room with a few of them on the large plush bed. In a sense, the room is made as a sort of compromise, You have to stay locked up in there but at least you have everything you've ever dreamed of.
(Y/N) Smile for me...
Epel tries to take you outside as much as possible. He tries to come up with cute date ideas like going to the park or carnival. It's all to make you feel normal again to give you a sense of normality. And they would work too...if only Epel didn't insist on holding your hand the entire time and that you aren't permitted to talk to anyone other than him.
And tell me you love me
Additional notes
Epel tries to learn as much about you as possible. He already has the basics down pat, favorite color, favorite food, how long you usually sleep for, you favorite movie, the little reactions when you're nervous, how you stress certain letters in your speech, the type of cake you like, how you always put the elastic on your right wrist when you're doing your hair.
He'll never punish you if you make him upset he'll just cry or refuse to talk to you until you apologies and start kissing the length of his neck.
He gets Vil to give you a makeover at least twice a week. He sees how much you enjoy spending a few short hours with another person and despite his jealousy lets it happen. Anything to see that beautiful smile...anything at all...
Rook Hunt
Rook is a possessive and delusional mix with high stalker and obsessive tendencies. In Rook's disturbed mind you already love him, the two of you would be dating if certain people would stop getting in the way! It's all their fault! Those ignorant, clingy, self-centered brats that you dare to call "friends". They keep gossiping about him, making you believe that he is a deranged and treacherous man when in reality he is a sweet and caring lover!
That's what he keeps telling himself as he dragged one of your friends into the snowy woods in the unholy hours of the night. As he tied them to a bare tree and shot them again and again and again. Until he reaches for his quiver to retrieve another arrow only to note that there is none left. He leaves them there with arrow holes in there body and blood everywhere else. Director Crowly has to clean up the hunter's mess early the next morning.
But the problem is still there! Heck, it's even worse now! There are even more people surrounding you and keeping you away from him. Rook is a reasonable man he knows he can't possibly kill everyone at Night Raven so he goes for the alternative. He steels you away!
You're the most beautiful thing on this earth
Of course, he makes it into a "fun" game of cat and mouse first. Before you know what's going on, there is an arrow piercing your dorm room door then another and another. You climb out the window run into the haunted woods. 'Someone is trying to kill you!' That's all that's running through your head!
Arrows fly inches away from your forme. There close, always so close, but they never quite touch you. In due time your legs start to get heavy, your lungs are failing, it's freezing, you're just starting to notice that... you're in a pair of shorts and a tank top. A few more steps, come on you can do it.
But you can't and you freeze and fall onto your side. You close your eyes hoping it will all go away. icy tears prick at your side and you hear footsteps getting closer and closer. Someone rolls you onto your back. You're expecting a final blow for your blood to be splattered onto the white snow. Instead, you feel something wet trail up your neck. flowed by what you can only assume is a kiss. It's too cold to think and darkness slowly engulfs you, the trail of kisses never stops even as you slowly fade out.
After that fateful night, your life is thrown into disarray. You're kept as a trophy for Rook to show off. He captured you just as he would have done with any pray, only differences while those animals get serenity in death, you are forced to live in hell with the lovesick hunter that fancies himself your "lover".
I wonder, can you outrun my bow and arrow?
Additional notes
Rook's punishments consist of depriving you of basic needs and necessities. You're left in a dark room chained to a wall with barely anything on. You're given scrapes and droplets for food and water. His treatment of you is worse than that of some savage beast.
Rook does love you thought and he will reward you every time you remember to greet him when he comes back to the dorm. Or when you behave when he takes you outside to socialize with his friends and their beloveds.
His rewards are usually some elegant pieces of jewelry. All with decorative charms made to resemble bows and arrows. So you will always know who owns you.

NOS4A2: Ashleigh Cummings On Vic McQueen's Heart
http://bit.ly/2HFZu7k
Ashleigh Cummings discusses what it's like to play Vic McQueen, the finder of lost things on AMC's NOS4A2.
facebook
twitter
tumblr
The Saudi Arabian-born Australian actress Ashleigh Cummings is unfamiliar with the term "Rorshach test."
"A what, sir?" she asks when the phrase is brought up to describe her new AMC horror series NOS4A2. Despite hearing the technical phrase for the first time, Cummings fully appreciates that NOS4A2 will be an inkblot test for many viewers. The series, based on a Joe Hill book of the same name, follows Cummings' character Vic McQueen, a young New Englander who discovers she has potentially supernatural abilities. Those abilities will come in hand to track down and defeat the vampiric Charlie Manx and his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith.
"I found through this genre, you kind of get drawn into these emotional, kind of larger picture things about parenting, about loss of innocence, about the political climate, about human psychology, about... gosh, everything."
We spoke with Cummings at the 2019 TCA winter press tour about Vic McQueen's big heart, NOS4A2 as an inkblot test, and what it's like to work with the old, decrepit version of Zachary Quinto.
DEN OF GEEK: What drew you to the show in this role?
ASHLEIGH CUMMINGS: Well, you know, initially when you get the breakdown for the auditions there's not a lot of information. So I only had a couple of pages of sides. I didn't know, I couldn't really judge on the script but I went to the source material and Joe Hill's book is just so rich with metaphor and complex characters and interesting psychology and so that was the initial kind of draw and then as soon as I started reading script and talking to Jami and just understanding her vision, I was so excited about the project. I think what really, it was in the complexity of Vic's character and the multitude of layers of themes and metaphor that excited me the most.
What do you like about Vic McQueen?
I love that we are seeing a heroine that is a little more developed, I feel, than what we've been subject to lately. It's been really amazing to see this rise of films portraying strong female characters, but what I think sometimes is missing, which we can kind of develop further is, an embracing of the feminine energy. I think Vic is a perfect embodiment of the strength, the ferocity, and the courage that we typically see in our female heroines, but also her strongest muscle is her heart.
Her superpowers are her creativity, her intuition, her emotion, her vulnerability and I think that fusion of typically masculine and typically feminine energies is something that's really important to see in the world. I think if we practice that daily interactions in our policy making and everything. I think the world could be a little better place. So I think she just embodied something that I really believe in.
Interesting. I'm kind of glad you mentioned her emotional vulnerability because she is a strong female character, but she's also literally a kid. I'm just wondering what it's like to find the space to portray an individual who's heroic but also still very young.
I feel so honored that I got the chance to play it and I think one of the biggest joys about it was not actually knowing exactly where I was going to go. We had a vision, but we're all kind of finding the character and finding the story as we went along and how to tell it. And I think that's what Vic's going through as well and I wonder if it makes a difference if whether you're a child or an adult.

When you're faced with confronting your fears, your demons, do you always feel like a child anyway? Whenever you're facing something new, you do go back to those beginning stages of walking again. I feel like life is constantly about us finding our way and kind of being children and acquiring wisdom and knowledge through it. But yeah, it's a really interesting question.
I mean I still feel like a kid.
Don't we all! I mean I think that's part of the thing is that, one of the things that I loved about the stories and the characters is that a lot of, the way that they became, the way that they were defined was because they were children and how they were nurtured as children, or not nurtured. Yeah, I think the concept of children is very present in these stories.
What is it like to interact with Charlie Manx the character and Zachary Quinto the actor?
Oh gosh, I mean Zach is just a dream to work with. Sometimes it's hard for me to stay present because I'm so fascinated by him as an actor. I look at him and how he's able to physically transform himself. Not just the makeup but his physicality, his vocal qualities, it's just really astonishing to watch. But then there are other times when it's, it's genuinely scary and I don't have to act too much because it's right in front of me and there wasn't a lot that was done in post-production. The makeup team was just phenomenal.
So, it was genuinely terrifying to come close to that. I really felt like I was facing a monster. And then there would be times where Zach would drive me to set and he would be in his stage five look which is the oldest look with his Apple ear pods and his like modern car and his Adidas clothes that it was very confusing. But yeah, it was scary.
I believe it. It's funny you mention Zach in his modern car. He has a very non-modern car in the show that plays a huge role. Is it like, what's it like interacting with a prop or a part of the set that's so crucial and important to this story you're telling?
I mean it feels like a character. It is a character in a sense. The engine is his heartbeat, essentially. I remember the first time I saw it and I was kind of taken aback by how large it was and just knowing what the vehicle meant, what it housed, where it transported people to is quite scary and it does feel like you're interacting with another actor in a way. And sometimes it was a little hilarious to see a man in a green suit driving it. That was pretty funny, but yeah. They have the fishing wire and stuff to make the door open but you, as an actor you don't often see the fishing wire so it really does feel like it's opening. Yeah. It's pretty cool.
What were your impressions of the story when you read it? What did you take away from it and, I don't know? How did that help inform your performance and what did you think of the book?
I think the thing that was most astonishing to me was that even though it was a horror book and it had these supernatural elements, emotionally I was deeply affected by it and I think what Joe Hill and Jami have done really well is, they've done what story tellers do best and they create meaning and metaphor through a narrative lens. I found through this genre as well, which has been really compelling and engaging, you kind of get drawn into these emotional, kind of larger picture things about parenting, about loss of innocence, about the political climate, about human psychology, about... gosh, everything.
I mean every time I talk to someone about the story it means something different to them. I think that's the genius of Joe Hill's book. And that Jami has done adapting it, it is so many things at once. But yeah, that was the thing I took away most from it was that I, 'cause I don't typically read horror, but it didn't feel like a horror book to me though a moment there I was really confronted by it but, it wasn't supernatural for the sake of whimsical eye candy and it wasn't horror for shock factor. It was deeply grounded in emotional meaning and larger truths and questioning of what is to be human and good and evil and such.
Cool. I think horror kind of does tend to be like a Rorschach test for some people.
A what, sir?
A Rorschach test like that-
Rorschach?
Yeah, Rorschach. It's like the ink blot test-
Oh!
Like you look at it and you've got to see what you want to see.
Yes! Yes. What's it called? Ror...
Rorschach.
Rorschach.
What is it like to now be a part of essentially the horror royal family. You're in a Joe Hill project.
You know, I haven't thought about it in that sense I suppose. I think making the show, like any storytelling, it just has to be grounded in emotional truth. Well, for my job anyway. And so, yeah, I haven't looked at it so much in that broader scope. I feel so excited and honored that I've been included in that family, because I have so much respect for what they do and how they do it. So yeah. I hope they embrace me.
What are you most excited for people to see in this season?
I think, I'm most excited for people to witness the uniqueness of this show. I think it's a really clever fusion of genres. I think that there is that horror element, but there's also a really gritty family drama, and then there's elements of supernatural stuff. So I'm really excited for people to tackle these important issues about identity and the nature of good and evil and so on in a really interesting and unique lens.

26 Non-Candy Halloween Treats Kids Will Love
Halloween and I have a complicated relationship, at least since I became a mom. Take trick-or-treating, for instance. It’s a fun tradition, but there certainly aren’t too many healthy Halloween treats (or even close to it). Easter and a few other holidays require some similar soul-searching.
So what’s a health-conscious mom to do? As I see it, I have a couple of options:
Option #1: Ignore Halloween Completely
Yep … I did this!
I’ll admit it: when my kids were all really young, I just pretended Halloween didn’t exist. We didn’t do the trick or treating thing or the costume thing. In fact, we usually just turned out the lights and went to bed early on trick-or-treating night.
I just didn’t like the idea of already grumpy toddlers staying up late to go to strangers’ houses and ask for candy packed with food dyes.
As my kids get older and want to dress up, trick-or-treating is harder to avoid. On the one hand, I completely understand the fun tradition of wearing a costume and spending time with friends. On the other, I don’t love the idea of them getting bags upon bags of candy (that will make them crazy and rot their teeth out).
Since I’ve learned a thing or two about balance and moderation over the years, we’ve moved on (a little reluctantly) from this option.
Option #2: The Candy Fairy
Opinions differ on whether or not receiving a mountain of candy in one night provides a natural opportunity to learn self-control. I’m all for kids having these life lessons, but I’m a big believer in giving kids choices within certain boundaries set by the parent. (Hence my love for Montessori.)
The Candy Fairy (or Switch Witch, take your choice) visits our house after trick-or-treating and the kids don’t seem to mind a bit. We switch out the majority of the candy for a fun grab bag of treats. Since they come from our home, this also gives me the chance to throw some tasty edibles from better sources.
Option #3: Offer Healthy Halloween Treats
I know, I know … handing out a treat other than name-brand candy is a surefire way to get your house rolled. I promise, I’m not suggesting handing the kids an apple or a carton of bone broth.
Still, since childhood obesity rates are around 17% in the U.S. (and thankfully holding steady for the last few years), wouldn’t less candy given to kids be a positive change?
In fact, there plenty of reasons to consider giving out non-candy treats:
Food Allergies – Food allergies are on the rise and many popular types of candy contain peanuts and other allergens. I know quite a few moms who can’t let their kids trick or treat because of potential peanut exposure. (Proof this is a real trend: The Teal Pumpkin Project.)
Too Much Sugar – With high rates of obesity and other health problems, especially among youth, I can’t in good conscience hand out tons of sugary candy. The 80/20 rule is great and there may be a time and a place for treats. The problem is that time seems to be all the time. And the place seems to be everywhere. Kids get candy at the bank, the doctor, school, and almost everywhere they go. Do they really need bags of it?!
Dye Sensitivities – Many kids are sensitive to food dyes and it is tough to avoid them in most types of candy.
Orthodontics – Candy and sugary snacks aren’t good for teeth and can stick to braces and other mouthpieces.
Easier on Parents – When you give out non-candy Halloween treats, you save parents the trouble of checking for anything harmful in the candy.
True, non-candy treats may not make your house the most popular stop in the neighborhood, but there are some really fun alternatives to candy that are definitely kid-approved. And all the other families who are trying to limit sugar or who are sensitive to food dyes will thank you!
Ideas for Non-Candy Halloween Treats (Kids Actually Like)
These are the top healthy Halloween treats I keep in my stash. Bonus: If you have some leftover, most of these will keep until next year!
1. Glider Airplanes
Surprisingly, mini airplanes are inexpensive and a great alternative to candy. My brother loved these when we were little and would have taken one of these over candy any day!
2. Organic Juice Boxes
A consumable Halloween treat that is practical. After walking around the neighborhood, kids may be thirsty. It still has sugar and isn’t an everyday thing for us, but it makes a great treat.
3. Natural Fruit Leather
In my opinion these taste way better than artificially flavored fruit candies! Buy them in bulk for the best price. I’ve seen them at Costco for a good price, or they’re available from Thrive Market or Amazon for a good price.
4. Bouncy Balls
My kids love bouncy balls and we don’t usually have them around the house because of all. the. bouncing. Grab a pack of 100 for cheaper than a big bag of candy and call it a day! They even make creepy eyeball bouncy balls!
5. Local Honey Sticks
My oldest son brought home a bunch of these from a beekeepers’ meeting one time and they were an instant hit with his siblings. Ideally find some from a local beekeeper, or order online. These are still a sweet treat, but the beneficial properties in honey make it a healthier alternative to candy.
6. Stamps
My littles spend hours stamping pictures on paper and they gave me the idea for this candy alternative. Stamps are also cheaper than candy when you get them in bulk.
7. Apple Cider Packets
I’m hoping it will cool down by Halloween, and if it does, kids will love something to warm them up after walking around. Even better, this brand uses pretty decent ingredients!
8. Carabiners
A novel and practical kid favorite! Carabiners top the list of practical gifts that can be reused, and as a bonus… they are plastic free!
9. Mini-Flashlights
A practical idea for kids walking around after dark! Keychain flashlights are fun for kids and a good candy alternative if you don’t live in a busy neighborhood. Order them in bulk for a good price.
10. Pumpkin Oranges
Feeling crafty? Get some organic oranges and use a natural marker to draw some pumpkin faces on the peel. This is probably best for a group of friends or close-knit neighborhood where people trust an unwrapped offering.
11. Organic Candy
If you just can’t fathom the idea of giving out something besides candy, opt for a better kind of candy. This brand of organic lollipops is dye-free and contains vitamin C.
12. Fake Mustaches
Kids love these hilarious fake mustaches. I brought a few packs of fake mustaches to a costume party for adults once and the next morning we woke up and found all of the kids in mustaches too! For a holiday that requires a costume, these are fun to give out!
13. Stickers
I have to say, kids have ruined stickers for me. They seem to think it’s a great idea to plaster stickers on any surface to make it more festive. (There is still sticker residue on their bunk beds to prove it.) Since Halloween is about fun for the kids though, I’ll be a sucker and order 1000 of them really inexpensively for treats to give out.
14. Bubbles
Bubbles are a fun activity that every kid loves. My children will play with these for hours a time!
15. Mini Notebooks
My daughters keep these mini notebooks in their mini purses so they can draw and take notes.
16. LED Light Up Rings
Forget Ring Pops! These rings light up in crazy colors and are a fun way keep kids safe in the dark.
17. Skeleton Bone Pens
Possibly the coolest item on this list! These bone-shaped pens are really cool and practical too!
18. Wikki Sticks
A great inexpensive Halloween treat to give out that stimulates creativity. Wikki Sticks are made from yarn and natural wax and are a mess-free creative way for kids to draw and build pictures.
19. Lego People
Want to be the coolest house on the block? Give out little Lego compatible figures!
20. Glow Bracelets
I don’t usually get glow sticks because of the plastic, but I’ll pull them out as a special treat or candy alternative. Glow bracelets are the most practical option because they also make kids easier to see in the dark while out trick or treating! I’ve never seen a kid leave disappointed when receiving a glow bracelet instead of candy.
21. Puzzle Balls
The downside? They are plastic. The upside? Puzzle balls are a reusable treat that encourages critical thinking.
22. Fancy Crayon Pens
Practical but still cool. These crayon pens have multiple tips and encourage creativity.
23. Slap Bracelets
Slap bracelets were all the rage when I was a kid. Maybe they are outdated, or maybe, like many poor fashion trends of decades past, it’s time for them to come back!
24. Mini Play Dough
We usually make our own play dough, but pre-made mini play dough containers are a good alternative to candy!
25. Spooky Spider Rings
Another plastic toy, but when store-bought candy is at stake I’ll compromise. This kid pleaser adds to the spooky fun. Warning: they’re as bad as Legos … inevitably I end up stepping on them in bare feet around the house for months after.
26. Punch Balloons
I remember punching these with great glee as a kid (probably in the direction of my brother’s face). This perennial party favor comes in Halloween-themed colors and encourages kids to be active and have fun!
If You’re Going to Hand Out Candy…
Opt for pre-packaged treats from reputable companies who use organic or natural ingredients with few to no additives. These are my favorite healthier candy “compromises” since their ingredient lists are a lot less… scary!
What’s your policy on candy on Halloween? Which healthy Halloween treats would you like to see your kids bring home?
