The blorbo meter is so sensitive. I'm always a little miffed when people put Erik, the phantom of the opera--well dressed, full of swagger, emotionally expressive to the point of destruction, seductive while he's in control of things, also real good at murder, also actually very funny--in the same category as Mr. Darcy (chronically swagless. does not know how to fight, flirt, or dress, does not tell hysterically cynical jokes, insipid excuse of a romantic interest, has never written you an opera).

but if you compare Erik to Rochester (can fight, amazing at flirting if you like em cryptic, probably has killed someone tbh) I'm like oh, well, okay, sure.

Tidbit Tuesday

Making slow progress with The Sweet Spot AU (temporary name) since I haven't been able to write anything in a week, but I'm enjoying it. Previous snippets here.

"Taste this."

Before Eddie could respond, Buck shoved something into his mouth, a mix of savory garlic and spice. Eddie had to chew a full thirty seconds while Buck vibrated where he stood waiting for a reaction.

"Well?"

"It's good. A bit chewy?"

"It’s a garlic mushroom tart. How's the amount of cayenne?"

"Well, I still have my taste buds. So, it's perfect." Eddie wiped flakes from his lips. "I don’t know about the garlic though."

Buck must had anticipated his air of caution, getting that glint in his eye before rattling off his latest research. "Garlic is known to have protective qualities. In fact, in Greek mythology, garlic was believed to have been created by the god Hermes, who used it to give strength and courage to the soldiers of the ancient city of Troy."

Eddie loved listening to Buck talk, his enthusiasm, the way he glowed anytime he was invigorated. It gave Eddie energy and soothed his nerves at the same time. He had a point about the garlic, some of their customers might actually enjoy it, but he struggled with the negative consequences of its ability to ward off evil spirits and vampires.

"I hear you, but some of our people might not appreciate it."

"Did you know the whole myth between garlic and vampires originated from Bram Stoker’s “Dracula"? There's no real validity in it," Buck reminded him.

"Well, it had to come from somewhere." Eddie debated the idea that some of their customers might take offense, then again, they could just list it as allergen. "Let Hen taste it? If she approves then we can put it on the menu for next week."
