So, in the new chapter of Dungeon Meshi, the mangaka Ryoko Kui has rendered a whole bunch of (non-animate) skeletons in very wonderful realistic detail. Could you judge them? Preferrably under a read-more, for spoiler reasons.

Links: in the ask, first image (from ch88), second image (from ch87)
I’ve only picked one from each chapter you mentioned in the follow up ask and have removed text so hopefully nothing spoilery!
ID in alt text.
This fellow is too fleshy so some bits look fused but the bone shapes look decent. Slightly exaggerated zygomatic bone and I think I can see an ear, but otherwise the skull’s ok 6/10
The whole, relatively tiny fellow on the right has too few ribs and maybe a dislocated mandible (either that or it’s strange in ways I can’t word), decent arm bones though, from what I can see 5/10. The falling bones to the left suggest the vertebrae are fused and the big falling bone is very generic bone shape but too bendy so I can’t ID it.
#judge your bones#ask the judge#Dungeon Meshi#a lot of the pages suggested had a lot of bones all over the place rather than full skeles#which I dont have the brain power to judge properly today so Ive just gone for the complete ones I could find#the story looks really funky though i might check it out properly#thanks for the rec!#zygomatic bones = facial bones that are basically the cheekbones#mandible = lower jaw bone#vertebrae = spine bones#by generic bone shape i mean like the classic bone you get on pirate flags#theyre never quite an identifyable human bone though theyre closest to a humerus if anything#humerus = upper arm bone

rec post for @f-eef that got too long for its own good, and is now just. a general rec post i guess
(as of writing, today is the steam summer sale! writing this before that goes live, so no guarantee everything on here is on sale, but! most of these are older games, so it’s likely. keep them in mind~)
- Iconoclasts my absolute favourite game, ever (along with OFF, but shh), if you check out one game from this list, let it be this one. it’s a genuinely almost flawless package, with gorgeous pixel art, fun gameplay, a really good story, and a cast of characters i just. adore. it’s so so so good, and three years later, i’m still not over it
- The Binding of Isaac so there’s this genre called roguelikes, wherein the whole gimmick is that, when you die, you gotta start from the Very Beginning; and the ‘point’ is getting better and better at the game, until you win! it’s super easy to just, play a few runs (they generally don’t last that long!), and then go on with your day, so it’s a really fun game to just waste time in, if you just wanna chill with some game. and, in my personal opinion, Isaac is the best roguelike game, with so much stuff to unlock, a whole slew of items to play with, and so much content it’s kind of unreal. i definitely think the DLCs are worth picking up, but it’s mostly for more content than like. actually being necessary
- Terraria it’s minecraft, but 2D. unlike MC, it’s got a bit of guidance, which i personally prefer, with bosses to fight and such. an absolutely BLAST with other people too
- A Hat in Time a 3D platformer, ala Mario, that’s just. super charming. it’s also really fun to play. i haven’t actually played the DLC’s, since i played it way back, but i’ve heard good things about Nyakuza Metro, which does look super slick, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Slime Rancher you are a slime rancher. you ranch slimes. it’s honestly just wholesome as hell, and just exudes happy vibes. mostly for running around and collecting slimes, ngl
- The Messenger really funky retro game, wherein you play a ninja on a mission. it’s primary draw is definitely in its gameplay, but there’s a surprising amount of story for this kind of genre? i honestly really just like this one. it’s neat
- Underhero you play as a cute minion, who kind of like. managed to kill the hero. and whoops, guess you’re doing his job now? it’s got that undertale vibe, though i’d say it’s less polished than it. HOWEVER, it’s absolutely lovely and it’s climax is REALLY good
- Hatoful Boyfriend bird dating sim. trust me. the ‘secret’ finale route is just. *chef’s kiss* fantastic
- Night in the Woods if you don’t mind having a very poignant sad time, oh my god, i could not recommend NITW more. it perfectly captures that period when you’re done with school, and suddenly your whole life is stretching before you, and you feel so so fucking lost, and overwhelmed and pained with it. it’s just. so good. a sadness worth experiencing
- Shovel Knight another retro game! this one is, pretty much, the king of the genre, and for very good reasons. the first one (shovel of hope) doesn’t have much story, but the latter ones really add on it. they’re honestly just, really solid games! with funky knight characters!!!
- Hyper Light Drifter man, it’s just a masterpiece. everything about it is perfect. it’s been like, five years, and it’s still one of the very best indie games
- Tell Me Why it’s currently free for june! and it’s a story game! plus, if you like the genre, the devs got the ‘Life Is Strange’ serie(s) to delve into!
- Cat Quest honestly, i just really like this little game. the gameplay is SO much fun, and everything else is just. really charming :’)
- Yoku’s Island Express metroidvania, where you play as a dung-beetle post officer, and the gimmick is that it’s pinball-y! it’s really fun, and very cute and just an all around good time :)
- Owlboy you play as an owl boy! named Otus! and you can fly around, and there’s GORGEOUS pixel graphics, and a neat story, and just. the BEST cast of characters. it’s delightful
- Yuppie Psycho + Count Lucanor just gonna bundle these two together, because they’re both REALLY GOOD. YP is the newer one, and is therefore probably ‘the better one’, but i like them both a ton! they’re 2D horror, but i wouldn’t say they’re that spooky? though that might just be because they’re pixel games! you explore spooky place, and weird stuff happens around you. just a really fun time :)
- Angels of Death my FAVOURITE rpgmaker game, it’s main draw is, a 100%, the main characters and the relationship that develops between them. i just love it a whole lot, and it’s got that lil’ tinge of horror that i, personally, fucking adore. there’s actually an anime based on this, but i haven’t seen it myself!
- Celeste curve ball! it’s a 2D platformer! it’s really good, got a ton of accessibility features, and has like. the tightest gameplay- and, on top of that, surprisingly emotional story!
- Bastion putting Bastion here, because it’s actually the only one i’ve properly played, but you could probably buy any of the Supergiant Games, and come out satisfied. Bastion is the oldest of the bunch, and is definitely a bit less polished for it, but i personally adore it; the gameplay probably hasn’t aged that well, but i think the story and presentation more than makes up for it
- The Darkside Detective funny point and click adventure, with great wit, and a pair of characters i kind of simply adore. it’s main draw is definitely its humour
- Littlewood very wholesome and chill farming game, that feels more like an RPG than something like stardew valley- i’d not recommend it over SV, but if you want more of SV, Littlewood might scratch that itch!
- Pony Island + The Hex absolutely adore both of these, though if i had to rec only one, it’d probably be Pony Island? they’ve both got that undertale-off vibe, though Pony Island definitely leans harder into it. very interesting plays, both of them
- Oxenfree another horror-ish game! primarily story-focused, but oh boy, what a story! i’m a BIG fan of this game, and the sequel was recently announced too! definitely worth a look if you like ghost shenanigans
- Creature in the Well wasn’t a 100% sure if i should rec this, but beside the finale boss, i really enjoyed my time with this! it’s this weird pinball inspired hack and slash, with some amazing vibes
- Kindergarten 1 + 2 they’re just fun little games okay. the 2nd is much more fleshed out, but the 1st one is really fun too
- the Henry Stickmin collection I JUST... LIKE THESE GAMES A LOT... i think you can find the old versions somewhere on the internet, if you wanna check them out first? idk, they’re fun!
- LIMBO + INSIDE personally, i like INSIDE more, but both of these are classics, and also they’re made by a danish team, and i like them a WHOLE LOT
- The Final Station i could not tell you why i like this game as much as i do, but oh my god. i love this game? it’s got a dying world, neat pixel graphics, big zombie apocalypse vibes, and a weird little story
- Year Walk i love Year Walk :)
- Smile For Me if you liked undertale’s lovely cast of characters, oh boy, you’d likely LOVE this game! it’s really, really, fantastic, and the epilogue (not in the actual game lol) hit me right in the feels
- Pikuniku just a fun little game! there’s not really much there, in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a wonderful little play, one of those games that just sets out to give you a good time, and absolutely success. i like it a lot :’)
- A Short Hike wonderful game, where it’s more about exploring the island than actively finishing the game. it’s real wonderful
- ULTRAKILL ANOTHER CURVEBALL! no idea if you like FPS, but oh my god. ULTRAKILL is so fucking good. just an absolute blast to play. there’s a demo to check out, and i’d definitely recommend it, because if it’s a genre you might like, you’ll love this one (OH also it’s in early access, which means it’s not finished yet! personally, i don’t mind that, especially considering this is more gameplay focused, but ya’ know!)
- My Friend Pedro it’s honestly just really fun to play, and sometimes i still think about the implied lore, and go all !!!!
- Little Misfortune another point and click! this one is pretty short, and is set within the same universe as their other game, Fran Bow, which is much bigger, but idk. i like this one. it’s dark cute
- This Strange Realm of Mine i honestly dunno how to explain this one, because it’s kind of weird and a bit odd, but i really like it, in all its weird poetic glory. it’s neat!
- Donut County you’re a terrible racoon who’s ruined the whole city with holes. it’s great and i love it
- OneShot another ‘gives me undertale vibes’, though this one was in development before UT, if i recall correctly! it’s so good, and it’s got some fantastic meta bits, and i love Niko. i love Niko so much
- Inmost gorgeous vaguely spooky game with a neat story... my favourite genre
- Sayonara Wild Hearts i’d call this more of a spectacle than anything else, but oh my god. what a spectacle it is! the OST is amazing, everything about it just hits right, and even if you suck at the gameplay (which i did), it really doesn’t matter, in my opinion? it’s just great all around!
#ze.txt#the sale likely just went live so#steam sale#hope there's something here to your taste feef!#i honestly haven't been playing any 'real' games in. A WHILE? so all of these are older-ish#and there's a bunch of good new games out there!#but here's my little rec post of older games :')#that i have. actually played#i think inmost is the only one i never finished? plus TECHNICALLY oneshot since it got a BIG update after i played it but shhhh#also TECHNICALLY also ultrakill but that's in ea so it doesn't count okay#i just love ultrakill so much. i had to rec it. I HAD TO#also keep in mind some of these probably require a mouse!! i know ultrakill DEF does#but you might have one?? i usually play on my big pc so i. would not know#oh also DST does have a single player version which is very good also

Story under the cut: (Wordcount ~2,3k)
They..
Were not a “normal“ family.
Actually, they were not even a family, not in the biological sense anyway. Still, they were attached to one another and they behaved a bit like a family.
Xisuma liked to think of them as one.
Not explicitly, of course. He simply treated them like one would treat a family, saw them like family members and acted accordingly.
But in order to regard something or someone as family, one needed to understand the concept of it and there was no telling whether Xisuma knew what families were at all.
“Ow, ow, I got an ow!!“
The admin turned around.
He was running a server, making sure all bioms were running smoothly, that all beings got along properly. He would check up on the villagers, greet new players and adjust the world a bit.
When his eyes finally caught more than the fields of the plains, he stopped his mind. The movements had caught his attention and right before his feet the movement stopped.
Someone stopped.
A little winged creature flapped in what seemed to be distress. They held up a limb, dust falling from it.
“What‘s the problem, my friend?“
The admin was calm as ever, his voice soothing. It was as soft and gentle, much like a rub over the back. It seemed to do wonders since the winged creature looked up, little sparkles rolling from these sunny-brown cheeks.
“M-My.. My finger..“
The much smaller person pushed closer what appeared to be a hand. Indeed, there was a finger and something looking like sparkly dust seemed to fall from it. It has the colour of the horizon when the sun went down. It had all shades of colours in-between reddish and pink to a warm yellow.
“I caught the ouch thing! It does ow!“
Xisuma blinked at the finger and frowned a bit.
“Huh, it appears so. I think you pricked your finger, Bdubs.“
The small one squeaked in terror.
“OH NO! WILL I FALL APART NOW?!“
He retreated his hand, hugging it to himself. The wings folded around him, kind of shielding him from the other. He did not show fear in his eyes, more like an intense kind of surprise.
Xisuma shook his head. His armoured hands reached out for the other. His body squatted down and he knelt to be more on eye-level with the other.
“Show me your finger, okay? I will see what I can do about it, my friend.“
The star looked up at the admin. His eyes were big, wide like the night-sky and just as sparkly. However, they appeared warm and Xisuma did not feel as if they could get lost inside of them. They did not feel lost when looking at the star, also referred to as „“Bdouble0100“ by certain villager scientists.
The star had fallen into a village once and soon, the admin had taken to take care of the oddity.. the oddity had chubby cheeks dusted in sparkles and several shades of red and orange. Usually, Xisuma‘s latest addition to the team was rather bright in terms of mood. It was a bit of a confusing sight to them but seeing as the star did not know anything about the world, it was their job to take care of filling in the blanks, of adjusting him to the world and.. maybe to take a bit of care of him or others.
Supernatural creatures were at home in this word. They all just needed to peacefully coexist.
“Well, well, my friend. It seems as though you pricked your finger a bit. There is nothing wrong with that, let me see. Ah, yes.“
He turned away for a bit, a little smile flashing over his calm face.
Bdubs had not known Xisuma for long but he always seemed to be calm. He was smaller than him and a bit younger, despite having been in existence as a star for so so long.. however, the other seemed to wear the facial expression of infinite patience and understanding. Not a single wrinkle disturbed him with worry, not even a mishap made him frown.
No, Xisuma took it and he took it all with sage nods and wise comments. OR, well, self-irony and some sensible chuckles.
Bdubs was calm like that.
He was not the calmest person on the world, actually. Papa K liked to call him “Bubbles“ because his emotions bubbled up and got really funky like boiling water. He swung from one feeling to another, depending on whatever new thing this rich world gave to him.
No, he was calm because Xisuma was there. And Xisuma was calm. He always was. Bdubs imagined him to be like a boat that stopped. They were that funky mechanic that made boats stay where they were in the water, on land.
Nothing moved the boat.
Nothing moved the admin.
The star flapped his wings. Curious planets were blinking as Bdubs followed Xisuma‘s movements with his eyes. He was putting down a box that was twisting and turning, revealing even more boxes inside. They held words in a new language in front of him. While Bdubs did not understand, they were there and he recognised them.
Xisuma could read so many languages, even that one.
His black hands slipped in to pick one box in particular.
Bdubs was sure this being knew everything, knew it all. Even when the concept of getting hurt, taking physical damage at all, was new and scary to him, he knew to trust Xisuma. They were the one who could fix it all.
“Scar has given me lovely healing crystals. I am sure he can give you one, too. But for now, I will give you something to wrap up your finger, so your wound can heal. It will be safe.“
The star looked up at him.
“Will- will I be ok..?“
His face was in a slight pout.
While he was not offended, he was just a bit.. he needed more than that, maybe? Maybe there was anxiety or maybe it was a bit of disappointment that his big scare had needed nothing more than a little bit of covering up.
Xisuma got a bit of leaf, a little piece of cloth, so really really tiny, then some string to bind it all together. There it was, no more dust falling from the smaller Bdubs. He blinked in surprise.
“You will be just fine, my friend.“
The admin stashed his things away, back into the funky twirly box and then it vanished into his inventory. To Bdubs, it was nothing more but a mystery he had yet to properly understand. But then again, there was so much about this world and especially X that he could not claim to understand without obviously lying.
Then again, who really understood or knew Xisuma properly?
“Bubbles!“
The sound of wings flapping in excitement could be heard. His body betrayed him to his reaction, giving away all his feelings before he even got to throw himself against the source of that word.
“Papa!!“
The star squeaked and the person to join recently quickly hoisted the smaller one up in keir arms.
“There you go! You are right, Bubbles, it is I - Papa K! And there is our amazing Shishwammy! Are you two having fun together?“
Much like Xisuma, Keralis had a smooth and kind voice. It was neutral in gender and mood and seemed to have a soothing effect on anyone. At the very least, Bdubs could never recall having seen anyone upset around either of them, even when they liked to poke fun at some people sometimes.
However, it might also be simply because people knew that the duo - alone or together - never acted or talked in maliciousness. They would say things playfully or maybe be a bit more stern but ultimately, they were just.. there.
They were the soothing breeze stroking over the erratically moving and rather unstable surface of the sea. When the waves grew unsteady and more and more unpredictable, the ground of the sea as well as the winds above, were calm and unaffected as ever.
Bdubs felt good and fine, sandwiched between the two forces to sit out his tides and calm his rising waves.
Keralis was looking up at him. Ke held him up into the sun, a bit as if to lift him as high as he - a star - was supposed to be. The vice admin put him back into place where he belonged (or maybe used to belong to) as ke waited for an answer. However, ke refused to push the rather emotional star. When Bdubs snapped out of his thoughts, he realised that eyes were focused on him. Xisuma nodded, their eyes patiently encouraging the other to talk on his own. He grinned sheepishly.
“Oh, yeah! I caught some „“ouch“ in these bushes. I think Scar warned me about them before..“
He looked at his fingers, lips already falling back into the familiar pout. Bdubs was not sure whether he was living on this world but he knew that this pout was certainly living on his face, always ready to latch onto his lips and showing itself off! Such a naughty little pout - well, he assumed it did make him a bit more lovely.
“But Xisuwa helped me with the ow! It is all gone now! See? Poof!“
He held his finger into keir face.
Xisuma wore an amused expression on their face when Keralis could clearly not see, considering the finger was simply too close to keir eyes. It did not bother kem. The centaur nodded, stomping keir hooves ever so gently.
Even the ground was unfazed by his actions. It barely scratched its surface.
“Ah, did he do magical things to you? That was very nice of Shishwammy!“
Bdubs nodded.
His face glowed brightly. The warm red and orange-ish colours became more obvious to the eye. In addition to that, it seemed as though a golden flare sparked up on his face. The star‘s golden freckles, strewn over his body like fish in the sea, were gleaming in the sinking evening sun.
“YEs, yes!! Thank you so much, Xisuw.. Xi-...“
His lips opened and closed. He tried and tried to pronounce it right until his tongue seemed tied and confused, unable to splash around and make all the right sounds.
“Just „“X“, my friend. I know my name is a lot for some people. Everyone comes up with new nicknames for me.“
Papa K giggled.
Bdubs was getting better at the common language. He was not perfect at it but the centaur‘s big heart seemed to swell up with pride nonetheless. For a moment, ke feared keir muscles could be felt through keir skin but Bdouble0100 simply wiggled his body like a silkworm.
“It is gettin‘ niiight!“
The star pointed at the darkening horizon.
The admin nodded pointedly.
“I suppose it is time to go home and sleep, is it not?“
Bdubs, ever-pouting, curled up against Keralis‘ broad chest. He stifled a yawn and pressed his eyes close.
“...‘s so dark.“
Xisuma and Keralis locked eyes for a moment.
“Hey, hey, my friend. We are going back to Scar and the others. We have cute pumpkin lights there and diorite mini blocks for you to play with. How about that?“
Bdubs was still pouting but yet another yawn interrupted him. He tried to look at Xisuma as he took him, the little bundle of wings, from Keralis. Ke knelt down for Xisuma to settle on keir back. They easily got onto it and hugged the star close to their armour. It did not look too comfortable but Xisuma‘s armour was flexible and not as static or hard as people would suspect.
“Hm.. nigh‘s.. scawy..“
Xisuma nodded.
“There there, my friend. We are almost there. Can you feel the nice wind?“
Bdubs was silent for a moment. His warm skin was burning against Xisuma‘s touch. He was always so hot. It must be a given with stars, Xisuma assumed.
After a while, the younger one answered.
“..A bit.“
Xisuma chuckled.
Keralis‘ steady yet strained movements were rocking them back and forth. Slowly, Bdubs blabbered himself to sleep while Dadsuma watched. When they arrived, the „“sleep king“ was already fast asleep. He was the first kid to fall asleep, usually, hence the title.
They were not sure whether he needed sleep but he feared the dark too much to stay away when the world started to darken even a bit. Even thunderstorms were unsettling while rainy days usually motivated him to stay inside and build magnificent little works of art.
“There..“
Xisuma settled the bundle into a bed, red like Bdubs‘ temper.
A pair of helping hands drew the blanket over the small bean. Xisuma smiled at keir gentle fingers. Ke smiled back.
The healing crystals were forgotten for now but Xisuma was a good admin, having made a note on it for later.
“We have a few other kids to bring to bed, now.“
Ke turned to watch their little home.
They were living in a tree, rather rustic, mostly because the persistent robot friend of Grian (they had dubbed him “Npgri“) really enjoyed rustic optics more than anything. The light was warm and the smells pleasant.
Still, it was lively and the kids running around, throwing toys and wielding sticks were not too worked up about the approaching night. Well, Wels - the self-proclaimed knight - cuddled up in bed next to Bdubs. Meanwhile, Jellie (it was,, Jellie the 16th, but please, nobody tell the children) was actively jumping after the blazing Tango.
Cleo tugged at Keralis‘ leg (the same as always, despite kem having so many legs to offer) because she wanted to go to sleep, too.
Xisuma caught a loopy Mumbo and swept him up into his arms.
“We have quite a few people here, have we not, Shishwammy?“
The admin giggled at the large centaur. His arms seemed to be dipped in black ink. The name “Void“ was rather fitting for them, too.
“Our hermits“, he giggled. A little sigh gave him the time to watch Ren run from fixing up a security fence to tackling another „“symmetry issue“ around the flowers.
“They are our responsibility now. A happy little family.“

Stray Cat - chapter fifteen
Rating: Mature Word Count: 1775 Warnings: Past Abuse, Past Rape/Non-con, Slow Burn, Eventual Smut Summary: Phil Lester believes that if he does good things then good things will happen to him, so on one of the worst days of his life he invites a rain-soaked Neko boy named Dan into his home. Phil has never met a Neko before and he knows nothing about the dark system that has molded Dan. Dan is part of a repressed population with few rights, and as Phil gets to know him he can’t understand why – Dan is the most amazing person he has ever met. —
Phil woke with a smile on his face. He felt the Neko shift at his side, so he stretched and said, “Morning, you.”
Dan sighed, sounding like he had been hovering on the edge of sleep. He seemed to struggle closer to awareness, shifting again so that he was facing Phil with his cheek pressed against a pillow. He had taken a shower before bed and his hair dried in an adorably tousled mass of curls. His cheeks were pink and he looked lovely as he smiled back. “Hello, you. What time is it?”
“Um, not sure.” He hadn’t set his alarm since they had decided to sleep in. Phil grabbed his glasses, more out of a desire to bring Dan’s face into perfect focus – he could see Dan’s freckles and the flecks of darker brown in his irises now – and then he grabbed his phone to check the time. “Just after 12, so time to get up. I really want to film something.”
Dan’s smile broadened. “That sounds good to me.”
They got up and after dressing and taking turns getting ready in the bathroom, they then met in the kitchen for cereal. While eating, Dan asked, “So, do you know what you want to talk about in your video?”
“I think so,” Phil nodded. “I don’t like to script my videos because then what I say doesn’t come across as natural. So, I just decide what I have to say, maybe note some talking points, and then I just decide the rest while I’m filming.” Phil squirmed slightly in his seat at the thought of Dan watching him while he filmed; he had never let someone watch him film a video before. No one had ever asked to watch before. “It probably won’t make much sense to you while you’re watching. I’m going to be filming it in a few parts since I want to play another character. It won’t all make sense until I bring it together in editing.”
Dan seemed to be even more excited to hear this. “Could I watched how you edit it, too? You know, if that’s okay…”
Phil nodded, his nervousness vanishing as he saw how eager Dan was to learn, and it made Phil happy to teach him. While Phil had always loved sharing his passion with people – the various friends he had pushed away with his Buffy obsession could attest to that – he had never had anyone ask him about YouTube before. YouTube was a passion he had almost forgotten, but he felt the flame of it rekindle as he saw Dan’s eyes light up talking about it. Dan’s enthusiasm was contagious.
Dan glanced at the notebook that Phil placed on the table when he came into the kitchen. It was black and said ‘Death Note’ on the cover. There was a second notebook underneath of it. “What’s that? Is that where you wrote your talking points?”
“Yup. This one is where I put my video ideas, although since I wrote them in a Death Note the ideas will probably die,” he said, pointing to the Death Note. Then he handed the second notebook to Dan. “This one is blank. It’s for your video ideas.”
Dan accepted the notebook in stunned silence. Then he saw the funky turtle on the cover, which was covered with sparkles and he arched an eyebrow.
Phil laughed and he felt his tongue stick out of the corner of his mouth. “I work in a stationary store. I get free stuff sometimes when it doesn’t sell.”
“I wonder why no one wanted to buy it.” Dan flipped through it though, admiring the quality of the paper. He closed it and smiled. “Thank you. Can I see yours?”
Phil shifted, feeling his nervousness returning. “Maybe later. Spoilers, you know?”
Dan nodded. “You don’t want to tell me what the video is about?”
“Actually, I already told you all about it. I’m filming a story-time video about a strange person I met. I have a series on my channel all about weird people who come up to me and say or do odd things. It’s all thanks to the Lester Family Curse,” he tried to infuse the last few words with a dramatic flair.
“Curse?” Dan seemed to be suppressing a smirk and he went on, feigning concern, “That sounds quite serious. Is this the sort of thing I should have been informed about before moving in here?”
“Only if you have an aversion to strangers coming up to you in the street, and that won’t happen unless you’re with me. The Lester Family Curse only affects the men in my family. We attract oddness. I can give you some examples. I had a woman come knock on my door once who wanted me to join a cult. A man fell in my popcorn once at the cinema. I went to a gym once where a man forced me to lift a tire.”
Dan’s body was vibrating with the laughter that he was holding in. “Don’t take this personally, but I’m a skeptic. I’m not going to believe in a curse until I see it happening for myself… although, if you attract odd people, then I guess I qualify.”
Phil couldn’t deny it. “True, but you’re the good kind of odd.” Dan’s skepticism seemed to increase, so Phil said, “You’re different and everyone else is the same. That’s why I like you.”
Dan followed Phil to his bedroom after breakfast and watched as Phil set up his camera, which he pointed at the bed. “Anything I can do to help?”
Phil shook his head after he made sure that the camera was working properly. “No, I just need to get my costume for the character I want to play. Oh! You can do something. Get me an orange from the kitchen please?”
By the time Dan returned with the fruit, Phil was dressed in his preppy-est jacket and he was tying a scarf around his neck. Dan looked at the orange in his hand and grinned. “I just figured out what you’re filming.”
Phil nodded and sat on the bed. He took the orange from Dan, placed it out of sight then looked at the camera. There was no red light. “Oh! Dan, I forgot to start recording. Can you start filming for me? Yeah, hit that button, and then you can go back to standing where you were.”
He waited until Dan returned to leaning against the wall by the doorway, so that the sound of his footsteps wouldn’t be recorded in case this first take was the one that he wanted to use. Then Phil entered the mindset of the angry customer who threw the chocolate orange at his head. He was able to forget that someone was watching him as he hurled insults at the camera and then he ultimately threw a literal orange.
Phil wanted to make sure that the scene looked good, so he watched it back on his camera, but he decided that he had thrown the orange too quickly and it didn’t look good. He re-filmed the action a few more times before he was satisfied with it. Then Phil removed the jacket, scarf, and also the persona of the angry customer. He glanced self-consciously at Dan. “I’m going to do my intro now.”
Dan rolled his eyes. “I’ve seen your videos. Go for it.”
“Oh, right.” Phil laughed at himself for being weird about this, shook off the last of his awkwardness, and turned to the camera with a wave. “Hey guys.” He launched into the story about work, describing what happened and pointing to his fading black eye. He stuck a ‘Hi, my name is: Phil’ nametag to his shirt as he acted out the exchange with the customer from his perspective. He wrapped by announcing Draw Phil Naked waving in the air where he would be placing the art in the video, at which point Dan lost his composure in a fit of giggles.
“Shut up or I’ll kick you out,” Phil said as he started laughing, too. Once they had both quieted, Phil reshot the last part that Dan had laughed over. He quickly looked over what he had filmed, decided it was good, and said, “Okay, I think we have what we need.”
Phil shut his laptop around 10:00PM and rubbed his eyes. “I might want to do some more to it tomorrow before posting it.”
“It’s perfect, though. I think it’s one of the best videos you’ve ever made.” Dan yawned. He was almost as tired as Phil; he had been attentive during the editing process and made notes in his turtle notebook, but his heat started bothering him again. He had to get up at one point to be sick, but then settled back down on the sofa beside Phil under a blanket, seeming mesmerized by the video that came together on the screen of his laptop.
Phil shrugged and placed the laptop on the coffee table. “I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I want to watch it tomorrow again once I’ve got some distance from it. You know, kind of see it with fresh eyes? Then if I’m happy with it I’ll post it.”
Dan nodded in understanding.
“Hey, thanks for helping me today. I don’t think I would have filmed this if you hadn’t talked me into it. Today made me really happy.”
“I’m happy, too.”
Phil looked closely at the Neko, assessing him for signs of illness, but his skin was a normal healthy tan and he was no longer sweating. Just to be sure, he asked, “How are you feeling?”
“I’m great. I feel perfect. Kind of hungry maybe.” He glanced at the kitchen, seeming to be contemplating a late-night snack. He looked back to Phil. “Why do you ask?”
“I was just worried since you got sick a couple hours ago. The heat?”
Dan shook his head. “That was it. The last of it. Phil, it’s been 3 days since it started. It’s over. I’m fine now.”
“Oh,” he said, the realization sinking in. “Oh, that’s wonderful!” Phil flung himself at Dan and wrapped his arms around the Neko.
Dan laughed as he was startled, and then he hugged Phil back. It took them both a moment to notice the position that they were now in: Phil was lying slightly on top of Dan and they were both breathing heavily. Their faces were inches apart and they both seemed to be remembering the conversation they had at the beginning of Dan’s heat.
“Yes,” Dan said. “I do like you.”

CONGRATULATIONS ALYSSA, YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AS LILY EVANS WITH THE FACECLAIM OF SOPHIE TURNER!
We definitely had a hard time deciding on who would be the one to portray our wonderful Lily Evans, but in the end decided upon your application. You captured her personality and biography perfectly, but it was your additional info that pushed you over the finish line for us. We loved the way you described her boggart and patronus and the little quotes you added. We can not wait to see what you do with this character and to write with you!
Check out our acceptance checklist right here on what to do next!
♔ OUT OF CHARACTER INFO ♔
NAME/ALIAS:
Alyssa
AGE:
21 – My birthday is December 20!
PREFERRED PRONOUNS:
She/Her
TIMEZONE & ACTIVITY:
CST/GMT -6
Out of ten, I’d say that my activity is typically around an 8! I get on periodically throughout the day, and most evening/late nights. I am a college student, majoring in theatre, though, so this can all change depending on rehearsals, homework, and of course, whatever life decides to throw at me. I try to let people know if a particularly rough week is coming up!
TRIGGERS:
REMOVED.
ANYTHING ELSE:
REMOVED.
♔ IN CHARACTER INFO ♔
FULL NAME:
Lily Josephine Evans
- Lily, for the ‘garden’ that her mother wanted through her children. The Evans family has always had a fairly large and beautiful garden in the back, something her mother started when she and her father moved in after getting married. She always intended to name her children for the blooms.
- Josephine, the feminine version of her father – Joseph. Lily keeps her middle name to herself – most people know that she is Lily J. Evans, and she keeps it at that. She adores her father more than almost anyone in the world, and having a little almost secret between them keeps her grounded, especially when the world feels like it’s beginning to fall apart.
BIRTHDAY AND AGE:
Lily was born on January 30, 1960. It was the first good snow of that winter, a fact that made her birth rather eventful. Her father will tell anyone who will listen about driving through the streets of Cokeworth, trying to get to the hospital as the snowflakes ‘as big as my hand, really!’ came down.
Assuming that you’re starting near the beginning of the school year, Lily is seventeen. She knows that this technically makes her an adult in the wizarding world, but she’s a little freaked out as to what that means. The Prophets tells darker stories as the days go on, and while she knows that she won’t be sitting on the sidelines come graduation, she does wish that she had a little more time.
PRONOUNS:
She/Her
SEXUALITY/ROMANTIC ORIENTATION:
Heterosexual, heteroromantic.
- Note: I would love to explore the idea of Lily being demisexual/demiromantic, however, as someone who doesn’t have a ton of experience with that, I feel the need to do research, and explore more before fully diving into a portrayal. I don’t think it would be fair, given my limited knowledge base, to automatically put it on the application. It is something I’m interested in and will continue to study, and hope that it can be worked into Lily’s psyche as time goes on!
EXTRACURRICULARS:
I think that Lily’s extracurriculars are perfect!! (I really love that there’s a knitting club, also).
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
+ Quick-witted: Lily is always on her toes. While she might get herself into some tricky situations, and especially on the battlefield, her mind is constantly racing, thinking of not only her next move, but of what her opponent may respond with, and her best course of action following suit.
+ Talented: No one can deny Lily’s abilities. She received tremendous marks all throughout her Hogwarts education, and has been able to use that knowledge outside of the castle’s walls. She has an almost photographic memory, recalling small passages from text books and essays in the most vital of moments.
+ Kind: Lily genuinely cares for those close to her with her entire heart and being. She hates to see people hurting, and is very typically known to go above and beyond to make things right. In the end, it is her kindness for which she is remembered.
+Passionate: Matching her fiery mane, Lily’s passions burn bright and long. When she cares about something, anyone who will listen is bound to get an ear full. She refuses to stand for injustices, and is thankful to be able to stand up for herself, and all those like her.
-Too proud: Lily likes being intelligent, and enjoys knowing that she has accomplished great feats for her age. However, this can frequently come of as if she were bragging, or being a know it all. It’s not that she’s trying to do those things, but if she knows the correct way to do something, she’s going to make it known to those around her.
-Judgmental: First impressions mean a lot to Lily, and though she sometimes wishes she didn’t place so much on them, she does. Her first year at Hogwarts was eye opening, in a way. Everyone around her was judging her on her blood, her first actions in the classroom, and her early friends. Now, they’ve rubbed off on her.
-Sharp-tongued: Always saying what’s on her mind has gotten Lily into her fair share of trouble throughout recent years. She does not hold back, and a flowing vocabulary has leant itself to quick witted comebacks and insults. Those close to her have learned not to set her off, and if she is angered, to not take most things that come out of her mouth extremely personally.
BIOGRAPHY:
As a young girl, Lily’s life was spent in gardens. Her mother had dozens of flowers planted in the backyard, and Lily and Petnuia spent summer days chasing each other among the blossoms. Fall afternoons were spent under the shade of trees, trying to get the falling leaves to land on her. Winters were bundled and chilled as she dodged her sister’s snow balls, and a young Lily could be found climbing trees to find the perfect reading spot in the spring. The first years of her life came and went with the largest conflict being which sister got the larger cookie after dinner.
As Lily’s magic began to show, things started to change. Petunia started acting differently, and she found solace in the strange boy from up the hill. Severus and Lily grew close, and she was delighted when she received her Hogwarts letter. Leaving behind her family was hard, especially with her sister’s penchant for being spiteful, but nonetheless, Lily went. Her first years at Hogwarts were everything she hoped for. She thrived, made new friends, and quickly rose to the top of her class.
The later half of her years at school brought more difficulties than she could have ever known. Lines were beginning to be drawn, and Lily knew that soon she would be deposited right in the middle of a full out war. She tried to keep the struggles hidden from her family – her parents didn’t need to worry about this, and Merlin only knew how Petunia would respond. Her letters became shorter and shorter back home, and she began to take a stand. Her life was turning upside down as she lost friendships, and by seventh year, it seemed that even being Head Girl did not guarantee and sort of safety in the halls.
As time goes on, she gives her family little information on her future plans. To be fair, she didn’t really know what exactly it was that she wanted to do with her life. Keeping her family in the dark seems, to her at least, the best way to keep them safe. While they remain clueless, she continues to learn and train. Though nothing can prepare her for what is to come, she’ll get as close as possible in her time remaining in the castle.
A war is on the horizon, and Lily is going to be fighting.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Some of this is from former accounts, some from former apps, but I think it all shows a wide array of how I think about Lily!

Quotes: “Some days I wanna raise a little something more than heaven.”
“Have courage, be kind.”
“I’m tough, I’m ambitious, and I know exactly what I want.”
“Forget what hurt you, but never forget what it taught you.”
Wand: Lily’s wand is 10 ¼ inches, willow, swishy, and has a unicorn tail core. It is exceptionally good for her charms work, and makes for good healing spells. She fell in love with it the moment she saw it, hardly believing that something of this power could belong to her.
Boggart: Lily’s boggart has undergone quite a few changes since her first encounter with it. The first time she saw it in third year, it was a rather large bird coming after her (don’t ask – there was a bad experience as a child). As she grew and the world around her changed, so did her fears. By sixth year it had transformed into her friends tearing her down, calling her a mudblood, and spitting at her feet. It will continue to change after she graduates, growing to be those she loves and cares about in peril.
Patronus: It took Lily ages to be able to properly produce a patronus. It was just thin wisps for a good four months during seventh year. When she was finally able to get the full one out, she looked back at James gleefully, but his eyes were left wide. Looking back to where his eyes were fixated, she couldn’t quite understand why he seemed so shocked. It was just a doe after all. It was only later, when James produced his own stag, that she understood.
