... I've always heard of the apparent lore going on in Starset songs (A band I've become clinically addicted to years ago, even now because I've always had a fascination with space themes, and sci-fi (even though fantasy is my fave.. The combo of both though? It's delicious). Honestly probably because my dad watched star wars all the time, and because he started watching SG1 then, Stargate Atlantis my love for the sci-fi genre in particular has been renewed. I don't know how I got bored of the genre? But I think it's because most sci-fi I ended up seeing was kinda just repetitive ideas of guys in space suits, remaining on a ship 24/7. It's hard to explain).
I remember wanting to make characters based off the names of the Albums, however i never fully liked the base concept I had for their story. (It was a dystopian world concept i barely remember at all now.)
Either way, besides realizing Starset has, lore.. Even though I already knew about it, at least vaguely. (Based from a comment on Perfect Machine, and Monster I believe.) It seems like Carnivores (honestly this should've been obvious to me, but I'm a slow processor that gets confused easily and misinterprets information or the implications and points of what I'm told.) are an actual thing in the lore? I gotta read further into it. I have no idea if these Carnivores are human, or something else. In I think more than one song, Carnivores are mentioned. In the song Antigravity, there's the mention of "and far below, the carnivores are looking up to where I soar".
Besides realizing Starset has, a shit ton of lore (it's shown via their music videos, which again how did I not realize this.. They play out like a movie. A very interesting one.) BUT, I've heard apparently Starset has BOOKS?? WITH THE LORE?
Man I don't feel like reading a shit ton of lore but I definitely want to jump into this like a ball pit, I've been desperate for years to actually know what's going on in Starset's music videos, besides the meaning behind the songs for YEARS after I read vague comments on the meaning behind Perfect Machine, etc. So yeah I knew and didn't know...? That or I didn't expect there to be so much lore.. Somehow.
But god fuck, I want those books 😭
#i ramble#ramble#starset#hyperfixation#i'm obsessed#i can't believe they have books#I'm foaming and drooling/j#IM GONNA EAT THIS LORE UP

The Brotherhood, Pt. 7
Make no mistake, for Acastus Kolya finding the thing that the Lanteans are looking for is at most a side-quest. Snatching something they are trying so hard to get their hands on is a bonus. Protecting his people from the Wraith is what he tells himself he is doing. But what this is really about is vengeance, pure and simple.
His first priority is making John Sheppard suffer and then, only after he has suffered sufficiently, to kill him. This is why he agreed to McKay's proposal to find the ZPM for him in exchange for his team. He never had any intention of keeping his word and letting them go (his "the others will be let go" definitely did not include the two of them). Taking McKay away from Sheppard and letting him stew in the pit in the ground without him is just toying with them, a cat playing with the mouse before taking its life.
At the gate, we get another close up of McKay touching things in an unnecessarily sensual manner. This seems to be a significant motif for this episode.
McKay: It's not working. Kolya: Try it again. McKay: Look, I've tried it twice, backwards and forwards. Kolya: We've played this game before, McKay. Try some other combinations of the same symbols.
In the A-plot, a Wraith dart scans the city of Atlantis and sends the information back to the Hive. Similarly, Kolya is gathering intel through his observation of McKay. He is trying to figure out how best to use McKay against Sheppard. By reminding him of their shared past experiences, he's also letting McKay know that he is very much going to hurt him if he does not do as he wants. The life of the Daganian woman next to him is especially expendable to Kolya, and he won't spare her like he did spare Weir due to his machinations.
Although, compared to the events in The Eye (S01E10), McKay is not being nearly as careful with what he says to him. What he's doing here, now, is not directly endangering Sheppard so he can let some of his displeasure show. Back then, anything he said could have cost either Weir or Sheppard their lives.
Note that Kolya is not looking at McKay while he lets him work on the DHD because he really doesn't care whether it works or not. And when he walks behind McKay, he stands uncomfortably close.
Pronos, Kolya's--let's say--second in command is interesting. He seems very intelligent and he is intentionally paralleled with Sheppard in this observation that there are 720 possible combinations for the stargate symbols on the stone tablets:
McKay: You joking? Do you have any idea how long that would take? Pranos: He's right. There are 720 possible gate address. McKay: It's a waste of time.
This was one of the first things Sheppard ever said to McKay (in Rising, S01E01), and it certainly was the moment that McKay noticed him, not as a good-looking military guy (which he had clearly noticed earlier, trail as he did after him as they entered Atlantis) but as a distinct person. Sheppard mentioning the 720 combinations that he had just calculated in his head where McKay hadn't even started doing the math was the beginning of the road that had lead to John Sheppard becoming the most important person in his world--and this is true regardless of how you interpret the nature of their relationship.
Note, however, that we know McKay knows how many combinations there are, we have seen him being told this, but here it is not he that makes a reference to them. He is not volunteering any information to Kolya. And, at the very least, this reference seems to remind him of Sheppard, even though he does he best to not let it show:
Pranos displays other signs of intelligence, as well:
Pranos: What about something else? What if these aren't stargate symbols? McKay: Look at them. What else would they be, huh? Allina: Actually, these symbols may not be gate-related.
For some reason, the intelligence of both of these characters is emphasized which, together with what happens with Sheppard and the tablets later, makes McKay seem off his game. Granted, this is not his core area of expertise, but we have been lead to believe he is the most intelligent person on the expedition (at least he would like to think so), so he should easily beat the natives of Pegasus in simple reasoning--if not in mental math. But I am wondering whether McKay is downplaying his abilities on purpose, or he is simply too distracted for his mind to be entirely on the problem.
And if he is not purposefully downplaying his skills (which we have seen him do with Kolya previously), he is definitely overplaying his praise of and affection for Allina for the same reason that Sheppard seemed to want to imply indifference toward him in front of Kolya. It's noticeable that Kolya does not threaten her life at all even though, if he believed that she was in any way significant to McKay, threatening her would be the best and quickest way to whip him into action. For all intents and purposes he acts as though she was not even there. But as stated, finding the ZPM is a secondary concern to him. He admitted himself that he could just as well have buried them all alive and called it a day.
Either way, it is the combination of the efforts of Allina and Pranos that lead them to look for the answers in the monastery and the wall-painting they were looking at the previous night. We get a shot of McKay's back from the perspective of Kolya who is standing behind him, and he's looking real good. There are two candles burning behind him, one taller than the other, perhaps symbolic of something. Kolya is watching them from the same perspective that Sheppard did last night but now that it's daytime and Sheppard is not here, it's safer to show the audience how erotic the sight really is--and definitely was in the dim lighting of the night before.
Kolya is watching McKay, and he notices it. Kolya is watching him while he takes up a piece of food from the table and puts it into his mouth in what can only be described as a predatory gesture. This may well be of the same food Sheppard was eating the night before, also watching the two of them from behind. McKay clearly pauses, sees Kolya doing this, and then turns and calls Allina a genius. While Kolya had not threatened her life at all, this may be an attempt by McKay to make her seem necessary and invaluable, like he did with Weir previously. Trying to make it seem like they needed Weir so that he would spare her life. This is a possible explanation.
But as mentioned, Kolya has not threatened her at all and it was McKay that he was watching intently. He is making the vibe erotic by slowly biting down on the piece of food while making eye contact with him. If we assume that Sheppard and McKay had had a discussion about him agreeing to having to act the part of Valentino (which is to say, pretending to romance women) to throw people off the track now and again, it might be that that's what he decides to do, here. You can see the gears turning in his mind before he--not one to ordinarily and spontaneously compliment women--turns to her and calls her a genius.
If he can get Kolya to think that he cares about this woman, that she is special to him, it might make him less inclined to take his hatred of him out on Sheppard. And McKay does believe that Kolya hates him specifically, just reinforced by his earlier comment about his grating voice. From his perspective, Kolya had just been using Sheppard to get him to do what he wanted back on Atlantis.
We get yet another close up of McKay doing things with his hands, and all of them have been rather erotic. While there are three laser pointers that he is fiddling with here, there is also something undeniably phallic about it.
Kolya walks slowly toward McKay from behind which seems to cause him to step forward just to maintain the space between them. He also crosses his arms defensively. Kolya is a dangerous man whose presence would make McKay feel discomforted at the best of times but there is something predatory about the way he prowls here. In this context, he gives Allina another compliment:
Allina: I was hoping it would narrow the area down a little more. McKay: Well, it was worth a shot.
Notice that he is keeping his arms crossed while turned toward her the whole time which just tells us that his "courting" of her is not genuine. A person that is attracted to another removes barriers from between them, does not add to them. The reason why he is paying her compliments is related to Kolya's presence.
McKay figures out that the symbols aren't pointing to the location of the ninth tablet on the map but to the tablet itself that is hidden inside the wall. He asks them to give him a knife that would help him dig it out, and this is paralleled with Sheppard later asking Kolya for a gun so that he could "shoot him myself" which, again, is an attempt by Sheppard to make it seem like they are far less important to each other than they really are. I mean, Sheppard even asks McKay whether they "are good" afterward, making sure that McKay understood what he was going there.
Here, Kolya agrees to give him the knife. He does not consider McKay a threat, at least on the physical front. The thought that he would think that they would think that he poses a danger to them amuses him.
We get another close up of McKay's hand with more phallic imagery, and again it seems to be Kolya's perspective from which we are looking at McKay's hands working on cutting the tapestry.
McKay pulls out the piece after which Kolya congratulates him on his discovery, saying that he may live yet--reminding McKay of the fact that, as far as he is concerned, Kolya is very much going to kill them all. Kolya is seated behind the table, looking at him like a snack. He knows that they cannot trust this man. Rather than working on uncovering the ZPM, his mind is working on how to get them out of this.
And elsewhere, as he often does, Sheppard is working on the exact same problem.

Square/Prompt: A5: Stargate (replacing Truth Serum)
Title: Dreamling Abbey (epilogue)
Rating: G (Dreamling Abbey itself is M)
Ship(s): Dream of the Endless/Hob Gadling
Warnings: n/a
Additional Tags: Downton Abbey au, omegaverse, omega Dream, alpha hob
This is a third short addendum to my CHBB fic, Dreamling Abbey, which you can read on ao3 (mind tags), because Stargate SG-1 was one of my favourite shows back in the day. This is based on the opening scene of the 1994 movie though, and since I already had my Dream and Hob in Egypt in the 1920s, how could I resist?
The shouting and general excitement are what draws Dream down from their encampment to the excavation site proper. Balancing Aggie on one hip, he deftly navigates between the canvass covered stalls and the rickety wooden planks that criss-cross the pits and trenches on the ground to find his way to Hob. His husband is in the centre of the commotion, of course, broad brimmed hat pulled down low against the unforgiving glare of the Egyptian sun, and trusty notebook already in hand.
Dream smiles to himself as he weaves through the growing crowd- his Hob, always where the action is! Dream spies Robyn and Orpheus as he walks and his smile grows more contented. Ever inseparable- and ever intrepid, even at just four and six- they are currently clambering amongst the detritus of the excavations, with a series of watchful eyes upon them. Aggie fidgets a bit in Dream’s arms, wanting to join her brothers’ fun, but she is too young yet to be let loose so Dream does his best to soothe her with his humming and jiggling until he reaches Hob. He immediately does his husbandly duty and relieves Dream of their daughter, who is thankfully distracted enough by tugging on her father’s beard to be momentarily placated.
“What is going on?” Dream asks, shading his eyes with his hand and eying the commotion in the pit.
“They’ve found something, love,” Hob answers “And it’s a bit… strange, by the looks of it.”
They watch on with interest as the workers scurry around, efficiently uncovering a large, circular object. Dream tilts his head as he watches the men lift away heavy hieroglyph-covered coverstones to reveal a hollow ring of grey…. Stone? He is not sure, it looks too smooth to be stone, but what metal could have lain buried for thousands of years? Surely these ancient people did not use or work with metal like this? The ring is divided into segments, and each segment contains a symbol.
“Those are not hieroglyphs?” he questions and out of the corner of his eye he sees Hob shake his head. He is writing furiously in his notebook- Pitman Shorthand that he and Dream had learned together- having been quickly relieved of Aggie by a helpful local, and looks excited.
“Definitely not,” he says. “Not sure what they are though. I’ve never seen anything like them. I wonder what they mean?” he looks up at Dream, eyes gleaming. “Nothing like a good mystery, is there, darling?”
***
Later, when the strange object has been fully uncovered and cleaned off, it is hauled into a standing position to be more closely examined. Dream, drawn by a feeling he can’t shake, returns with Hob to look at it again. They are allowed close, so well known by the team working here as to be practically family, and Dream reaches out to touch it curiously. He frowns. No, definitely not stone. A kind of metal, but not one he recognises. Certainly not iron or copper and steel would be absurd anyway.
“How curious this is,” he murmurs to Hob as his husband puts his arm around his waist. “It feels… very strange. I cannot put my finger on it, but it draws me in and repels me all at once.”
“Gives me the heebie jeebies a bit,” admits Hob, staring up at the ring. “This thing holds so many mysteries. I wonder what it was? And what happened here? It was clearly deliberately buried and covered- no doubt the translators will be working feverishly on what the coverstones say- but it was so deep down, imagine the effort it must’ve taken those people… why’d they do it?”
“I want to know what these symbols mean,” Dream says, tracing one of them with his finger. It looked like an unfinished triangle with a circle perched above its top point. “They fascinate me.”
“Well, could be a new project for you love. You and your ready mind. Not that Aggie will give you much time to concentrate, not now she’s getting her legs under her.”
Dream hums in agreement. “I should like that. I should like anyone to succeed. I feel like this thing has many secrets to reveal.”
“Well, with any luck we’ll live to see them.”
“Perhaps,” Dream touches the object again, traces light fingers over the patterns he can reach. “I feel like if a key could be found then this could unlock a great many adventures.”

Nerd!Steve but lets make it fun. Steve comes from a family of brilliant people. His dad’s a super genius who married another genius and they’re both off winning awards for cultivating life on Mars or whatever, meanwhile there’s Steve the “dumb” one. The disappointing son with his weird interests in the paranormal whose inventions never seem to quite work and his job as an IT tech. “Have you tried turning the system off and on?” Steve and his friends (Enter Dustin and the scoops troop) have been convinced for years that the Russians are developing some kind of supernatural super weapon, and it turns out he’s actually right.
The Russians have been working on opening gates to a parallel dimension and as a result freaky shit keeps leaking through and causing death and mayhem that the government has to sweep under the rug. Most of that cleanup falls to the CIA’s Stargate division. Billy is a top field agent with a reputation for getting the job done no matter what the stakes. Unfortunately for his operations team, keeping up with his maverick tendencies is almost as much of a headache as the operations themselves. His life tangles with Steve’s when a machine of his actually works and he and his friends end up in the cross hairs of Russian agents who happen to be targets in Billy’s latest mission. Shit goes sideways and Billy ends up needing their help to complete his mission.
Billy’s team is used to his antics. Heather has betting pools going about how quickly the next “Bond Girl” will show up and whether or not Billy will fall into her web before she trys and kills him when it’s inevitably revealed that she’s been working for the enemy the whole time. Seriously the guy wouldn’t know a healthy relationship if it walked up and volunteered to pay for his therapy. No one was counting on the nerds or how Billy would respond to one of them in particular. It’s insane, but also hilarious AF watching Billy struggle to keep the bumbling civilians alive, and don’t think she hasn’t clocked how he can’t leave the pretty one with the glasses alone. It’s like watching two little boys in a sand pit. He’s always in Steve’s face and pulling on his pigtails, you’d never know this was the man of mystery who has left a trail of broken hearts on seven continents. If he can just pull his head out of his ass maybe she’s not going to have to start setting him up on blind dates after all.
Steve thinks Billy is the WORST. He’s pushy and arrogant and won’t stop touching Steve’s tools even though he’s made it clear he has a specific system for them!!! He gets that Billy is trying to annoy him to death as payback for ruining his operation, but none of that was Steve’s fault and Billy should really be a lot more grateful that Steve and the others are here to help; because they never would have known what the Russians were up to or had a chance at stopping it without them. So what if Steve can’t win a fight, he’s about to save the fucking world so give him some credit! Billy could at the very least stop teasing him with that ‘Pretty Boy’ crap. Steve went to high school okay, he knows he doesn’t compare to guys like Billy.
Billy is pretty sure Steve is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to him. He’s not sure how he’s still alive when he attracts disaster like a magnet, or how someone so brilliant can be so dense. The fact that Steve thinks he’s dumb though like genuinely baffles him and he kinda wants to punch everyone who ever made him feel like he was less than just because he didn’t meet their expectations. Kinda wants to punch something every time he looks at Steve honestly. Billy’s used to beautiful people throwing themselves at him constantly, so can someone explain why his favorite thing all of a sudden are the little folds in Steve when he’s concentrating, and the way his eyes light up all ‘Aha!’ right when he thinks of a good comeback to one of Billy’s jibes? He is not this guy! He doesn’t do attachments for damn good reason. So Why does he want to listen to Steve and Dustin fighting over what the CIA is hiding in Area 51 and why does he get such a kick out of how they collectively lose their minds when he hints that he’s been there.
Billy’s not attached, but if Steve wanted to sleep with him he’d be down. They’re hot and tommorrow might never come and all that. But hey, if it does he’s hinted a few times that the teams Digital Targeter Daniel has been talking about retirement. It’ll be hard finding a replacement you know, cause Billy is picky and he doesn’t just want someone who knows tech but someone who isn’t afraid to be in the field with him.
Steve’s like, “oh man, I can see what you mean. Good luck, I really hope you find someone”.
#harringrove#billy hargrove#steve harrington#Secret agent Billy and Tech nerd Steve#I can hear the banter#Steve would totally think Billy hated his guts and only tolerated him for the mission#But then Steve would do some dumb hero shit and Billy would be losing his mind#Why didn’t you stick to the plan!!!! And Steve’s all confusion cause Billy like NEVER sticks to the plan#And then it clicks#oh#he cares#He cares 😍!!!!

If Stranger Things premiered in 2006 instead of 2016, there would be dozens of Stargate/Stargate Atlantis AUs and crossovers.
Steddie in Space
McShep in the UD
Anyway:
I am old. I am ancient. I remember the before times. I remember livejournal when it was a decent website. I remember my first Tumblr, now lost (due to me forgetting the login details from 2008). I remember a time before AO3, before *hrk* Wattpad. I remember the pit of voles that was FF.net (never change, love you). I remember zines and talking about your ships on AIM/MSN and chatrooms and BBoards. I remember the awful html sparkle gif infested geocities.
I love fandom and I'm so happy to get to be here as an ancient one.
(And no, I'm not telling you how old I am, but I had a dial television and rotary phone as a kid.)

8 Shows to Know You
I was tagged forever ago by @the-marron but it’s been sitting in my drafts waiting for me to finish it!
Alright, not in any particular order except the first one, here are 8 shows to know me.
1. Stargate SG1 (this is #1 and it’s been #1 for 20+ years)
2. The Untamed (Even though Guardian was the first cdrama I watched, this one is the one that ate my entire brain and fully launched me into this pit of despair lol. WWX, my beloved.)
3. Guardian (I learned here that cdramas do not care how much they hurt you as long as it works and is true for the story.)
4. Merlin (The show that got me into fandom. Where I met so many of my friends here. I never would have expected how much joy I would find in this show after watching it when it was on air.)
5. Nirvana in Fire (holy fuck, one of the most brilliant stories I’ve ever experienced in my life. I’ll never be over it.)
6. Joy of Life (Smart, sassy, angsty, brilliantly plotty, amazing characters. just. per.fec.tion. Please gods above, let them finish this series it’s been four years and that cliffhanger was brutal.)
7. Doctor Who (Because obviously.)

10 Fandoms, 10 Characters, 10 Tags
Ok, after agonizing over these choices for days, I'm just posting lest I overthink it any further.
Thank you for the tag @robo-dino-puppy! I hope I do this right. I'm also not very good at ranking things, so this is mostly in the order the character comes to mind. Also, I am not sure I can come up with ten fandoms I'm involved in, so a few may just be me reaching for something to list.
Horizon Forbidden West - Ikkotah
Was there any surprise he would be on my list somewhere? There should not have been. There is literally nothing special or compelling about him, he is just a heartbroken guy who stole my heart.
Stargate SG-1 - Teal'c
Teal'c was an awesome character, and I will forever defend his sense of humor. He made so many jokes that were intended to fall flat, but I could never help but laugh at them, even while the SG team gave him sad/confused looks.
Star Wars: Rebels - Zeb
I'm stealing this from @robo-dino-puppy, but it can't be helped. Zeb is the best. He is such a great character, and has such a tragic backstory and compelling story in the show. He was so underutilized and his live action model was incredible. They need to get him in the Ahsoka show! (And let him have Kallus back too!)
M*A*S*H - Charles Emerson Winchester, III
I loved Charles in MASH. He was such an arrogant guy, but he was also very competent, intelligent, and would help so many people without question, because it was his duty as a doctor. He had a very soft side too that was just wonderful to see come out here and there.
The X-Files - Dana Scully
Scully was so awesome. She was very rarely a damsel in distress, she was so damn smart, her sarcasm and wit were what I dreamed I could also have someday.
Sailor Moon - Sailor Uranus/Haruka Tenoh
I thought Sailor Uranus was the coolest. The first canonically gay character I encountered, and I was a vocal angry fan about what the dub did to her and Neptune. As an early teen, Sailor Uranus was everything I thought women needed to be. Awesome, buff, no-nonsense, no men.
The Lord of the Rings - Eowyn
I wanted to dislike her so much when the Two Towers came out, because she seemed so extraneous and convinced of her own importance to the plot, but she wiped the floor with my expectations and I fell in love. She was just so awesome. Then I was disappointed she got together with Faramir, because she shouldn't need a dude, but I loved Faramir as well, so I accepted the match. (Yes, I was one of those people who saw the movies before reading the books...)
The Legend of Korra - Asami Sato
Smart, capable, and compassionate. Asami was one of my favorites from go, even though the narrative pitted her against Korra for the Mako love triangle thing at first. She pulled her weight within the group, and I loved how resourceful she was.
Animorphs - Marco
Marco was so lovable as far as I was concerned. He was that oddball guy who hid all his pain and neglect under a front. He was very relatable when I was reading those books, and I was so invested in his story.
Gargoyles - Brooklyn
I liked Brooklyn a lot when Gargoyles was on. He had his act together most of the time, and I liked his overall character. I like that he wanted to do right by his family/friends, but wasn't serious all the time.
I haven't thought about some of these characters in a very long time, but I liked revisiting some of my favorites. This was fun!

A bit of flirty Todd/Teyla in a beach setting. <3
Read at AO3:
Or under the cut:
The sun was a comfort on her skin as Teyla lay back in her chair, relaxing for the first time in what felt like ages, soaking in the warmth.
Weeks of rain and fog had shrouded Atlantis, her team's dour mood not helped by an overlong mission to P3S-403 where the town they visited was still held in the depths of winter. Returning to a break in the weather and warmer temperatures was most appreciated. Many of the city's residents had journeyed to the nearest section of the mainland to make the most of it.
Teyla shifted on the towel she'd spread over the chair John called a "deck chair" and let the balmy breeze carry the distant sounds of her teammates and fellow citizens of Atlantis past her. Ronon and John were having some sort of debate about surfing in between their actual surfing. Rodney was discussing, somewhat stridently, with Carson the potential venomous properties of a creature he'd found. Farther down the beach, Doctors Cole and Zelenka were talking and fishing, along with Major Lorne and Lieutenant Rivers. Teyla, Amelia, and Marie had been swimming earlier- Teyla amused by the Earth tradition of swimming while clothed in a bikini- and had now taken over a trio of the deck chairs that had been set out, relaxing after their exertion. Teyla was comfortable, by her hand was a drink Amelia called a tequila sunrise, and she was warm and drowsy.
The warmth shining down on her suddenly went cold and dark. Teyla cracked open an eye with a frown.
Todd was looming over her, scowling.
"You are blocking the sun," she informed him.
His scowl deepened. "If you do not control your expedition leader, I may be forced to take drastic action."
Teyla blinked. She was slightly intrigued, but not enough to actually get up from her comfortable seat. "That is not a good reason to block my sunlight," she retorted.
Todd grumbled under his breath but shifted to the side. Amelia made a sound of wordless protest, as he was now blocking the sun from reaching her. Teyla lowered her sunglasses to raise an eyebrow at Todd.
He snarled, softly, and dropped into a crouch beside her. He looked around, as if feeling hunted.
Teyla found herself now curious in spite of herself. "What is the problem with Mister Woolsey?"
"He is insisting that I accept a garland of foul-smelling leaves in recognition of the accord between our peoples."
Teyla had the garland of leaves and flowers that Woolsey had given her currently wound around her head. "Such as this?" she asked, touching her crown.
Todd narrowed his eyes and inhaled. "Yes," he admitted. "Though yours does not smell quite so terrible." The sensory pits near his nose fluttered. "The scent is actually not unpleasant when combined with your own."
Teyla smirked. "So complimentary. He must have you quite unsettled."
Todd scowled at her grumpily, and ducked down further behind her chair as Mister Woolsey walked past them and down to an area where several people were grilling and cooking.
Teyla rolled her eyes. "There is a very simple way to get him to stop," she observed.
"And what is that?" Todd asked haughtily.
"To accept the garland from him of course. Perhaps then he would leave you alone."
Todd made a desperate, wounded sound deep in his throat.
Teyla sat up, no longer able to relax. "You wouldn't have to keep it if it smells so terrible," she observed.
Todd sighed. He was sitting on the ground behind her chair now, as deep in shadow as he could get. His eyes were narrowed as he peered up at her. "I could not accept such a token and then discard it." He looked away, uneasy, as if the confession revealed more than he wished.
Teyla softened. “Come then.” She stood from her chair and knotted the towel around her waist, its thin material wafting around her legs like a skirt. She took her drink in her hand and walked past the chairs, making her way along the rocky ridge where they had been soaking in the sun and up to a path that led under the cover of nearby trees.
Todd followed her eagerly, and when her bare feet stepping on broken branches and seed pods from the trees made her hiss and stumble, he offered his left hand to help her balance.
She didn’t thank him, but said, “The trail opens up again further ahead.” And even as she spoke the rocky trail they followed became covered with loose sand. The trees to their right were only small specimens now, their roots twisting through the sand as the ground in that direction sloped away down to the water in a long smooth line. Teyla's feet sank into the sand; it was hot on the top, where the sun hit, but cooler and moist underneath when she dug her feet in.
The trail continued along the high rocky ridge, but below them the sandy slope led to a small cove, and Teyla made her way down the side of the dune to where the sand was level on the water's shoreline. The sand here, and the rolling in of the waves, was undisturbed by any others, and only the distant sight of surfers and swimmers, and the occasional shouts from her friends and coworkers, prevented the cove from being entirely private.
Teyla arranged her towel-skirt beneath her and sat down, sipping her drink. "I hope you did not get too much sand in your boots descending the dune," she said with more amusement than sympathy to Todd.
He hummed thoughtfully, pulling off one boot and tipping it upside down to pour out what was definitely a large amount of sand. "Your plea appears to have been ignored," he observed.
Teyla laughed. "You are not exactly dressed to enjoy a day at the beach. Why did you come?"
His eyes rested on her. "Because you invited me." He cocked his head. "Why did you invite me?"
"To see if you would come," she admitted. "And here you are." She looked at him levelly, her sunglasses sliding down her nose so that she could look at him over the top of their dark lenses.
"Well, my queen commanded my presence." He smirked. "How could I do anything other than attend her whim?"
Teyla snorted.
Todd's smirk spread, and he sat down beside her in the sand.
"That will not help prevent you from getting sand in your boots," Teyla warned him.
"It seems an attempt to separate the sand from my person is doomed," Todd replied. He gazed back at her, amused despite any discomfort.
"I don't suppose Wraith have beach clothes," Teyla observed.
Todd huffed and said wryly, "That would be accurate." He rubbed rough grains of sand between the pads of his fingers sadly. "Though it is unfortunate as well. Our normal attire does not do well in such an environment."
Teyla leaned back on one arm, braced behind her against the sand, and held her drink in her other hand, rolling the ice inside so that it clicked against the sides of the glass. "You could adopt a popular tradition and wear nothing at all," she suggested.
Todd drew himself up as if offended at the suggestion, but his smile grew sly and he leaned back on his left hand, mirroring Teyla's posture. "Would that please you?"
"Me?" Teyla held her drink against her cheek, her skin feeling quite warm against the glass's icy surface. "We were discussing your comfort."
"I am quite comfortable," he replied, grinning at her.
"Oh? Well, if we’ve exhausted that topic and there’s nothing else to discuss, maybe it's time for a swim." She raised an eyebrow at him. "Are you planning on swimming?"
"I'll have you know Wraith are excellent swimmers."
"I am certain," Teyla replied with false sincerity. "Though I feel that that your normal aura of threat would be difficult for you to maintain with your apparel sopping wet and squeaking with every step."
Todd threw back his head and laughed. "What is it you say, touché? I will concede your point. As you've won, I suppose I must divest myself of an article of clothing?"
I believe you are thinking of poker," Teyla observed.
"Am I?" Todd affected surprise. "Hmm. So, then you agree I don't owe you a forfeit?"
"I didn't say that." Teyla's eyes shone. "Perhaps you should double the forfeit, as you confused the stakes."
Todd laid a hand to his chest as if wounded by her remark. "I? Confused? I am quite certain that it was you who mentioned the wrong game."
Teyla blinked in surprise. "Are you suggesting I should be the one to take off my clothes?"
"If that is what you wish, my queen," Todd agreed eagerly.
Stymied, Teyla set her drink on the ground. She stood up, her skirt clutched around her. Then she released the material and it fluttered to the ground. "I am going swimming," she stated.
"As you say, my queen." Todd cocked his head. "Though, surely it is dangerous to swim alone."
It's dangerous to swim with Wraith," she retorted. "Especially one who will not admit when they have lost."
Very well." Todd pulled off his other boot, wiggling his toes in the sand while making a face. He stood, undoing his coat as he moved to let it fall from his arms. He had a sleeveless shirt of a thin material that he wore under it; Teyla was certainly not watching the way it clung to his muscles. He continued, pulling the shirt over his head and pulling his long legs free of his long, tight leather pants, under which he wore nothing at all.
"Am I now properly attired for swimming?" he asked her innocently, then affected a deep concern. "Though I heard one of the others mention sunburn and I wondered if I should be concerned. I have not bared so much skin in a long time."
Teyla took off her sunglasses, tossing them down on her towel, and then looked him up and down. Mostly down. She met his eyes. "It's not that much," she assured him. "I wouldn't worry."
Todd laughed easily again. He moved past her and into the water first, moving like a creature entirely comfortable with that environment.
Teyla huffed a small sigh of annoyance to hide her smile and focused on swimming. The water was warmer near the beach where it was only as shallow as her ankles, but quickly became cold when it was deep enough to swim in. She swam out to the mouth of the cove, about 200 yards, to where she could see the surfers quite well beyond the outcropping that set apart this cove. She paused there and her feet, treading under the water, struck sand. She set both feet down and found herself standing on a sandbar, the water only coming up to her collarbone.
She'd seen no sign of Todd since entering the water, but, once she stopped, he surfaced near her. The droplets of water on his skin caught the sunlight, shining like jewels. He turned toward her grinning.
"Are you enjoying your swim?" he purred, the sound warming her in a way that should not have been possible.
"The view was excellent, until recently," she replied.
He caught the amusement in her expression and his grin widened in response. He lifted his hands out of the water to display a fistful of shells of a familiar bivalve in his left hand. "I have heard these are quite tasty."
Teyla reached out to take them from him, examining the shells.
Todd stood up on the sand bar, looming over her as he stepped close. His eyes flashed, without any aid from the sunlight. "It is said they are prized for their amorous properties." He grinned.
Teyla handed the shells back to him. His smile faded, though he did not let any true disappointment show.
"Take them back to the beach," Teyla said. "We can eat them there." She met his eyes, then looked away as if indifferent. "I would like to enjoy them while finishing my drink."
He grinned again. "Yes, my queen." The words were teasing, but his manner was eager. He dove back into the water and swam a circle around her before vanishing into the darkness of the ocean.
When he couldn't see, Teyla smirked. She dove back into the water as well, headed for the beach.

Goa'uld Invasion Part Two
part three of Quantum Mirror
a fic by mushroom with help from stick
back on Earth, Nymph padded down Janet's stairs and was greeting by the smell of pancakes.
"whatcha doin?" Nymph asked, mimicking Jack's phrase. Janet smiled and tilted the pan to show the flower-shaped breakfast.
"I thought we'd have a fun time with our breakfast this morning. we also have whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and I cut up some fruit for some semblance of healthiness." the doctor laughed, then quickly stopped Nymph from poking the very hot pan. "my, you're a curious one! but it'll hurt if you touch this, it's very hot."
Nymph tilted her head at Janet. "then why are the pancakes touching it? won't they get hurt too?"
"no, honey. it's just batter, and we need to cook it so we can eat it! why don't you go play a game with Cassie, and I'll bring the food in when it's ready."
that seemed to satisfy Nymph, who floated into the livingroom where Cassie was waiting with a well-loved copy of CandyLand. as the girls played, Janet noticed an irritation that seemed to be growing in Nymph. her movements became slightly more erratic, her hands darting out slightly faster, the pieces going down slightly harder on the board. She watched her for a few more moments, noticing the frown on the little girls face grow.
"Nymph? Are you alright?" Janet asked. Nymph scrunched up her face.
"I don't know," she said, floating off the floor slightly. Janet noticed a tremble in her.
"Maybe we should try a different game?" Cassie suggested, looking between Nymph and Janet. Nymph shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. a terrible feeling collected as a pit in her stomach. she pulled her hands back into herself and scrunched her face in an attempt to make the feeling go away, but it didn't go away. in fact, it got worse as it grew into the devastating realization that Something Was Wrong.
"Where's mama and daddy?" Nymph asked, a tremble in her voice coming through.
"They had to go through the Stargate, remember? They'll come back, don't worry," Janet tried to reassure her. Nymph started to cry more.
"No, there's something bad. They're not safe, we need to help them!" Nymph cried, floating over to Janet, crying into her shoulder.
Janet held her tight, trying to get the little girl to talk to her.
"Nymph, honey, you have to talk to me in order for me to know what's wrong."
Nymph shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "It's all wrong, it's all wrong!"
"what's all wrong?"
"I hafta go!"
"go where, honey?" Janet brushed Nymph's hair from her face, but nothing was calming the little girl down.
"go to the base! if I go there, I'll find out what's wrong!"
"we can't go to the base right now, and General Hammond would've called if something were wrong."
"no! no no no..." Nymph kept repeating the word, and Janet nodded at her daughter.
"can you get me the phone please, Cassie?"
Cassandra nodded, and jumped up to get the phone from its place on the wall. once she handed to her, Janet dialed the number for Cheyenne Mountain.
"yes, this is Dr. Fraiser, I need to speak with General Hammond immediately."

Daniel and Sam tiptoed through the corridors, peeking into doors trying to find the best place to put the C4 - or worst place, from the perspective of the goa'uld. one of the large doors opened to a glider bay, which they agreed would be the best place for secondary explosions.
Sam set the timer, and stood up to go to the next room.
"wait!" Daniel grabbed her hand before she was fully standing, nearly knocking her off balance. he spoke in hushed tones. "shouldn't we have a backup plan, in case we get caught or something?"
"that's what the timer is." Sam whispered back, even though there was no one around to hear them. they had walked into another room when the floor lurched again.
"what was that?" Daniel whispered.
"I think we slowed down or stopped," Sam responded in kind. she spotted a window, then had to do a double take.
"is that-" Daniel asked, knowing the answer.
"Saturn." Sam finished. "Bra'tac wasn't exaggerating when he said we'd get to earth in a few hours."
after a quick glance between themselves and the window, they left to meet up with the rest of the group.

two marines arrived at Janet Fraiser's house - one to stay with Cassie, one to drive Janet and Nymph to Cheyenne Mountain. the doctor managed to peel Nymph from her arms long enough to buckle her into the car, little cow hood skewed and her cheeks puffy and tear-stained. the wailing had stopped when they were in the car, but the crying and shuddering breaths had not. Janet kept a comforting hand on Nymph's knee, but she just seemed to be getting worse.
when they arrived at the base, Nymph took off like a rocket to Hammond's office. not being limited by stairs or gravity, she reached the office long before Janet could catch her.
"General Gramps!" Nymph cried out as she opened the door. Hammond startled, then told her to come in. she floated over to the chair, but didn't quite sit down.
"General Gramps, it was awful!! an awful, awful feeling that won't go away!" she blubbered. "you have to check on mama and daddy right now!"
Hammond sighed sadly. "I'm sorry, little lady. I can't do that - we tried to contact them a couple hours after they left, and the gate wouldn't lock on. I'm sure, wherever they are, they're perfectly fine."
Nymph was about to argue, but Walter Harriman knocked on the door. "sir, NASA is on the phone for you - they said there's two contacts out by Saturn."
"do they have any identification on them yet?" the general asked.
"it's the glue olds!" Nymph announced. Walter and Hammond glanced at each other, unsure what she meant.
"the what?" Hammond asked gently.
"the glue olds that daddy and our team went to stop! they came all the way here!" Nymph grunted in frustration.
"do you mean goa'ulds?" Hammond enunciated the correct word, at which she nodded. "what makes you think it's the goa'uld?"
"the bad feeling." she answered solemnly.
Hammond nodded, trusting her, and picked up the red phone. if those contacts were a goa'uld invasion, they needed to get a counterattack ready.

"so, Bra'tac," Jack started hesitantly. "what's the plan?"
Bra'tac stopped in front of a door, opened it, and motioned for the rest of them to follow him through. Jack and Teal'c walked with him to a railing while the apprentice stayed outside to stand watch.
"this is the defense shield generator," Bra'tac said, dramatically gesturing to the large glowing engine beneath them. "in order to disable it, we must climb down several levels, into the very belly of the device, and then..."
Bra'tac teetered off, watching as Jack silently took two grenades out of his vest, pulled the pin, and dropped them down the shaft. there was a large explosion, and the glow of the generator fizzled out.
"grenades." Jack stated, miming an explosion. "what now?"
Bra'tac sighed, content. "now, we die gloriously, with honour, in a ball of flames."
Jack blinked at the old man. "I'm sorry, I have to go to Minnesota next week with my kid. dying in a ball of flames isn't exactly on the agenda."
"for Apophis' sake, human!" Bra'tac snapped angrily. "I have been waiting 133 years to die of old age, why do you deny me a death in battle for what I believe in?"
"would you please stop calling me 'human'?" Jack groaned. "I have a name!"
"Master Bra'tac, surely there is a way to escape?" Teal'c asked, knowing they didn't have time for this kind of argument.
Bra'tac sighed. "come with me."
~ • ~ • ~
Sam and Daniel walked towards the rendezvous point they had agreed on, and a pair of jaffa rounded the corner before they could fully hide. staff weapon blasts were coming seemingly from all angles, and before they could take out the jaffa Daniel was struck by one of the blasts. Sam fired the final kill shot, and ran to tend to Daniel's wound.
"leave me," Daniel gasped.
"we don't leave people behind, Daniel. you know that." Sam retorted, tears streaming down her face. Daniel groaned as she tried to move him.
"we're going to blow up in an hour anyway, what does it matter? just go!" he yelled. Sam looked him in the eyes, and he whispered "just go."
Sam wiped the still streaming tears from her face, and she ran out of the corridor. Daniel had glanced around at what he thought would be his last sights when he saw where he was - in the doorway to the sarcophagus room. he crawled into the golden box of life, and watched it close on him.
Sam met up with Jack, Teal'c, and Bra'tac by herself. Jack looked behind her, then met her face.
"Daniel?"
Sam shook her head, tears starting to flow again. "a staff blast. he told me to leave him. I dont know why I listened."
Jack reached over and pulled her into a hug. "because there was nothing you could do for him."
with a nod, Teal'c reminded them that they were running out of time. Jack kept ahold of Sam's hand, and the four of them ran to the glider bay.
"alright, so we go in, and try to-" Jack started, but Bra'tac shushed him, and pulled a shock grenade out of his pocket. Teal'c pried open the door, and the master rolled the grenade into the bay. with a flash of light, all the jaffa in the glider bay were incapacitated, and the team made their way into two of the gliders.
Bra'tac tossed his staff weapon over the edge, and threw something small at Jack.
"put this on, human."
Jack fumbled with the thing thrown at him. he glanced over to see Sam and Teal'c sticking similar devices to their cheeks, and attempted to do the same before climbing behind Bra'tac in the glider. the two gliders sped out of the bay, leaving behind the soon-to-explode Ha'tak vessel.
~ • ~ • ~
the sarcophagus opened, and Daniel opened his eyes to a completely healed wound and regained strength. he clambered out, and checked the timer on the C4 on the console in the same room.
it read one minute, thirty seconds.
Daniel ran to the gate as fast as his still-jelly legs could carry him. when he reached the gate, he realised that they hadn't brought GDOs so it wouldn't be wise to gate directly home. the seconds ticked away in his thoughts as he wracked his brain for an address. finally the address for an ongoing SG-6 mission popping into his head, and he dialed as fast as he could. knowing he only had few precious seconds left, he dove instead of walked through the event horizon.
~ • ~ • ~
Walter Harriman put down the phone, a smile beaming across his face. "NASA reports two fireballs in the night sky! SG-1 did it!"
Hammond pumped his fist in excitement, then looked over at a very concerned Nymph floating next to him. "I'm sure your family got out safely."
almost on cue, the gate dialed an incoming wormhole with an SG-1 iris code. everyone rushed to open the iris and Daniel walked through the event horizon alone. Hammond and Nymph hurried down the stairs to the gateroom.
"Dr. Jackson, what happened up there?" Hammond demanded, grinning in relief.
"Uh, well, the rest of the team is-was still up there, but I went through the gate to P4A-577 and met up with SG-6 to use one of their GDOs." Daniel said quickly, barely processing that Nymph wrapped her arms around him.
Hammond looked up at the window behind him. "Sargent, call NASA and get that shuttle in the air! SG-1 could still be up there!"
"Uh, general, I uh I think they think I'm dead."
"Excuse me?"
"I was-" he looked down, and finally noticed Nymph clinging to him. "um, hurt, and I don't think they saw me use the sarcophagus."
"understood." Hammond nodded.
"are you gonna surprise them when they get home, uncle Danny?" Nymph smiled up at him.
"I think they'd like that," he chuckled.
~ • ~ • ~
the gliders were damaged. their crew, surprisingly, were unharmed, but there was no way they would fly enough to even get to a stable orbit.
"we did it, sir." Sam's voice crackled over the radio.
"yes we did," Jack responded.
"we're in a low orbit, it's only a matter of time before we burn up in the atmosphere-" Sam started to spiral, but Jack interrupted.
"Sam, look up."
she did, and saw Earth below her, glistening in the sunlight. "it's beautiful."
"we saved it." Jack stated.
"we did, Jack."
"it's too bad we won't ever be able to see our kid again." Jack sighed, but saw something at the edge of his field of vision. "then again, maybe not."
the thing at the edge of his vision creeped up until it was in full sight. it was a shuttle!
"Houston, this is Endeavor. yeah, we got 'em."
~ • ~ • ~
SG-1, alongside Bra'tac, walked into the gate room into a cacophony of applause, surrounded by their coworkers, friends, and loved ones. Nymph bounced into her parents' waiting arms, joyful sobbing all around. Hammond guided Bra'tac to the briefing room before the jaffa master left.
"Where's uncle Danny?" Nymph asked innocently. Sam's face fell.
"well, baby, he got hurt and couldn't make it." she tried to explain, tears falling from her face again.
"Oh. well, I got something that will make you feel better!" Nymph exclaimed, and waved into the crowd. the crowd shifted, and a familiar shine of glasses and mop of brown hair zigzagged to the front. Jack and Sam beamed, and Sam handed Nymph to Teal'c so the couple could hug Daniel tight.
"you space monkey," Jack laughed, voice muffled by Daniel's hair.
"so uncle Danny got hurt and couldn't make it back, huh?" Nymph called out in a sarcastic tone. Jack and Sam smirked at each other, both rolling their eyes.
"that's your kid," they said in unison, laughing.
wrapped arm-in-arm, the SG-1 family waltzed into the mess hall for some well-deserved desserts.
"we're definitely taking that vacation," Jack could be heard muttering as they passed in the halls.

Reposting old art: assorted sketches of the Stargate Atlantis Renaissance AU, which delighted me utterly with the concept of Prince Radek and then sent me into a Radek/Jeannie shipping pit despite them only being a tiny tiny part of the overall plot.
Anyway Elizabeth deserved to be a queen.

Have I ever told y’all about the stargate game I play when I go round the charity shops?
So essentially the premise is this: for every non-consecutive stargate sg-1, Atlantis or universe dvd I find in a shop, I get a point.
So for example if I find stargate sg-1 season 1 disc 5, season 4 disc 2 and Atlantis season 3 disc 2, I get three points. The DVDs of the films count as half a point each - just cause they seem slightly more logical to sell on their own.
However. For every consecutive disc I find, I lose half a point. So if I were to find sg-1 season 1 discs 1&2, I’d get one point for finding disc 1, but then lose a point for finding disc 2 (though if I’m in a weird mood and they’re not next to one another on the shelf I only lose ¼ of a point). It means there’s the potential to have a sub 0 score.
Depending on time and if I’m with other people and a variety of other factors, I’ll either pit stores against each other, or I’ll do a total for the whole trip.
The highest score I’ve ever gotten from a whole day trip (6 charity shops) was 16. Didn’t find a single consecutive disc that day. I’ve never gotten a sub zero score.
#stargate#honestly I don’t get why charity shops always have random individual stargate discs#they have like four episodes on. and it will always be such weird episodes too#I just don’t understand

Of 'Grumbats'
When I started picturing this, I imagined an orc, then a lizard type thing that would refer to their race as "brother" or "sister" but then moved onto the idea of a mole-rat. They are technically called "Grumbats".
There is at least one queen, they produce copious amounts of self-fertilised eggs. They bury themselves underground, hibernating mentally, just producing eggs in a main-nest.
These creatures have rat-like, mangy, dirty, vermin features. When in harsh environments they develop a hunch full of fat stores but usually they stand up like a humanoid.
They aren't purely biological, they have a magical element built into them. They have two vertical pouches on their torso when they can incubate an egg (seedling) through to a joey (puggle). After that, although tiny, they will travel outside, either upon their parent or waiting in a sub-nest.
Although they treat each other as siblings (except a queen) they ARE capable of being different individuals, not clones, yet sharing traits from those that raised them. In fact, some believe that there is some kind of magical transference that occurs whilst in egg form that influences the potential of the joey that emerges.
I was imagining a stargate scenario when they don't really reproduce but have marsupial features. They do not feel complete until they have an egg that they can raise
Some individuals can almost come out as carbon copies of those that raised them, keeping their legacy alive. It's almost as if someone saw the race of tortles and devised a way to improve upon it.
Queens have six pouches where they can incubate eggs. This way she can generate protectors, tenders, hunters, or egg-runners, slight variations on her young.
Rather than a hunch, the queen can grow tendrils and cancerous growths upon her body by concentrating deeply or with the help of a tender. A growth can have its own pouch for incubating eggs, or it can be a fat store for times of drought, deep hibernation, or seige. The tendrils work like roots, taking nutrients out of the ground or out of the food that hunters have placed there. There is often a "stomach room" full of tendrils with rotting food stuffs lashed up against the walls or a pit with tendrils at the mouth.
A queen will quickly start developing another queen in a growth, in a far off place as a safety measure. The egg mutates through nutrients and magical energy, ready to hatch when a tendril is deliberately severed/dies off.
All, including the queen have an organ in their hand that can leech life-energy and magical energy. This is how most prefer to feed but they do have the ability to hunt, eat and digest their own prey. This leeching ability varies, depending on the specialisation they have.
In addition to queens, protectors, tenders, hunters and egg-runners... there are also digger drones, transporter drones, leecher-healers, survivor scouts, mentalists, incubators and detectors. It seems they run on a caste system that can defy their racial traits or class.
The colony has existed for thousands of years, surviving disasters, and rising from the ashes time and again. Entire armies of Grumbats have fallen, settlements and family pack lineages have ended. The line of queens has never been broken though, her young rising from the soil. Even though these intelligent creatures have been here long before men, orc and elf, they are still considered as disease-ridden animals by many. Their marsupial faces, a lack of their own written culture or language, and the squalor they can survive in does not help with this stereotype.
The grumbat is a mix of HR Giger's Alien, the Saarlac, Stargate's Jafaa, Predator hunters, Tolkien's orcs and the Labyrinth's goblins. It allows for body horror, and fast-breeding hives of enemies, yet can be an underdog ready to become a hero.
