devlog 1 - cursor and the horrors of game making. the agony and such of making a rewrite fangame

hello!! name's cursor/siffrin and i'm a poor loser making a fangame!! why did i commit to this i could have just made a fic but noooo i gotta pick up rpgmaker again

this devlog is made because. well. all devs do one ithink. also to write down my ocasional progress in this project!! this won't be monthly but whenever i have the time and got something to report yay. spare me from this hellhole

we begin 💥

ever since cookie run the darkest night got cancelled a few months ago and left us with only chapter 1 i did feel sad!! i liked the story!!! gingerbrave cool and fucking awesome moments. BUT!! because i am mentally ill,, i decided to rewrite the game myself and give it the ending it deserved to have!! will the ending be proper i dunno. i am still writing this stuff waugh. but hey it will have an ending at least

to gamedev stuff proper. i got rpgmaker mz around 2022 for the purpose of making a cr game still. an original one!! however after making a few stuff i left it in hiatus bc i had to focus on school (i still do. college is breathing on my neck dear lord). i still plan to continue that one but it will be after i'm done with this rewrite. in either way. i've been changing placeholder stuff for now,, such as menu icons and figuring out how to make the party have five members. also re learning how to use aseprite because i gotta make all sprites haha (breaks down)

i should remind folks that i am an artist/writer first and foremost. i will very likely go through pure trial and error while making and 'coding' all of this (why did i plan 14 chapters oh my godddd),, though i do have notes i took from the rpgmaker tutorial so i can refer to when i'm stuck whenever and hey!! forums are always a thing!! i wouldn't have figured how to have 5 party members if they weren't!!

to writing stuff. i've been planning the prologue and the locations of the first 3 chapters so far. as well as a vague idea of chapter 12 and the epilogue. with point A and point B set,, now i just gotta make the middle point. aka the rest of the game</3

the main party and a few relevant npcs and characters have already been set. as well as brainstoming stuff and showing said stuff to the gingerbrave council (personal friend server) for approval of sillyness. you guys are fucking awesome btw if you're reading this. also hi chat

mentally i've been setting a timeline of events. i plan to write these in a notebook so i can have them at anytime and not have to open my laptop whenever i get a cool idea. or dig through thousands of discord messages just to find an idea i wrote down in the moment. overall i believe writing (in comparison to art making and the game making process) will be the easier part for me. also i gotta decide for a proper name for the rewrite. naming it the same as the og is lame. i need something with more sauce. i'll figure it out. in the meantime. have this goober

But one of my new ocs that I already LOVE is Henneg!

I love how I've developed her story so far and I LOVE how she types when I play as her!!!!!!!! She's so sillay

I also adore her fuckass medieval bob. (She knows how Joan of Arc felt guys)

She's a mutant troll that poses as an Indigo with the sign Sagisces (pretty much stole another troll's sign and lusus for disguise). She's based on a lot of rumors of mutant trolls (not saying they didn't exist, obviously Karkat exists) I heard about when I was on Alternia, plus the middle ages as a whole.

Sometimes she wears the big armor she made for herself, but usually she just looks like most other trolls. (Baggie hoodie, big pants. The only other different thing is she wears fingerless gloves)

She's a Lord of Life and a derse dreamer. Also she has a beetle as a lusus!

I'll probably draw more of her later.

Another that I love is called Disfigured Dreamself!!!!!!!! (I stole another alter's artstyle for this 👅)

She's an oc that me and a friend have made for our MSPFA Bloodboil (which doesn't have many panels to it yet at the moment but yah)

I can't spoil anything but I will say she has been BOILING in my thinkpan. She's got a lot to her!

And of course if we're going off of Bloodboil, we can't forget ROBOLLUX

To not give spoilers to anything, all I'll say is that she holds Aradiabot's place in Homestuck but definitely does NOT act the same! She plays a much bigger role in the story than you might think. Bloodboil is not your average swap!!!!!!!!

But if you think about Bloodboil, you can't forget JANE EGBERT!!!!!!!!

My long rant about my first time touching CV after 10 years: long paragraphs incoming!!!

Just started replaying curious village and omg how does this game actually manage to be so eerie and creepy in a subtle way. The sceneries of st. mystere just feel so empty and dilapidated in some way with their early graphics quality, including the puzzle interface and everything (the limited memo function is driving me crazy btw) And on top of that, layton's front facing sprite just staring directly at you is kind of unsettling. And needless to say ramon's face still scares me. 😭

The puzzle clear screen from CV just seems so empty and bleak compared to the other games, and also I've noticed once you submit an answer, the music slowly fades away instead of just stopping, which makes it even more nerve wrecking 😭

I never had replayed CV ever since I first finished it 10 years ago. One of the biggest reasons why I love playing this series is its beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere, and the vibe of CV is the complete opposite of that. That meant there wasn't really a need for me to replay it like the other games, and even now, I'm just doing it just to get more lore from the series.

My first encounter with CV was actually around 14 years ago, but 9 year old me was too dumb to proceed far enough into the game lol (and I had no more access to the game after not too long since the DS wasn't mine). It wasn't until 2014 when I remembered about the game and got the chance to finish it.

Maybe the reason why CV feels more uneasy for me could be because everything in that game is now a blurry memory for me, like a dream you had as a kid. Solving the first few puzzles was fun though, remembering each puzzle and how I solved it as a little kid. And I'm looking so much forward to do the Inn minigame! Really loved it sm as a child, it felt like playing a cute dress up game except it's furniture.

Rn i'm still in the middle of chapter 2, this time it'll take a while for me to finish the game since I also got work, but I hope I'll come back to write another update once I progress more into the game!

(As for changing the expression, try erasing some parts of the face (or change the layer if the sprite is drawn) and/or draw over them- Since the canvas is small, try making the thickness of your brush thinner)

How old do you think each Link is during their first adventure?

Sky: Probably 17. It would make sense, considering how once a year they would have the wing ceremony, and only a select handful who seem to be around the same age are participating. (Then again it sort of raises the question on how the wing ceremony even works in the first place just like that post that was floating around earlier... huh.) it would also make sense considering how in Breath of the Wild 17 is the age of adulthood, so if the wing ceremony is for 17 year olds competing to become knights then that would be where that tradition comes from. Maybe lol

Four: Considering how he had to be young enough to see the minish, probably no older than 9 or 10. Maybe 8 at the youngest.

Time: I like to headcanon that he had just turned 10 right before his adventure. I know a lot of people like to think he's 9, but if he was 10 that would've made him 17 when he woke up; an actual legal "adult" in Hylian terms if they still have 17 being the age of adulthood in their society.

Legend: I like to think he was older, about 15, but I kind of agree with all of the other headcanons of him being younger. Idk; there's a kind of disconnect between the sprites and the official artwork of A Link to the Past that it is really hard to say, as his sprite makes him look like he was 10, but we'll just settle for the middle ground and say he was 12 or 13.

Hyrule: Canonically, he is 10 due to the sequel stating that he was 16 and it had been 6 years since the events of the first game, so...

Twilight: Definitely on the older side; probably late 17 or 18. Verging on 19, perhaps?

Wind: It did say canonically in the game that he was 12, right? (Wait, then that would've made Time 12 when he left Kokiri Forest? Idk; that kind of always bugged me whenever I watch wind waker lol; perhaps they were going for a middle ground between Time's young age and adult age)

Warriors: Again, kind of hard to tell, but he does seem to be around Twilight's age, perhaps slightly older. Probably early 20's.

Wild: 17, or I guess 117 by the time he wakes up lol. I like to think that it also took him a year to finish his adventure (due to what one yiga npc says outside of Kakariko village on the northern edge leading into the lanayru region; really odd place to put them there since that's really early game btw) but in context of LU I suppose he's still 117. Sad :(

Since you were talking about games, I know you're also a Dai Gyakuten Saiban/Great Ace Attorney fan (so am I! I followed you originally because you're into both it and BSD hehe), and I'm curious to know your thoughts on it! 💖 Who are your favorite characters/relationships/cases/parts? (My fave character is Benedict/Graydon. Yes I have a tendency to become obsessed with minor characters no one else cares about, oops) Did you play it with the Chronicles version (I assume so, like most people did) or are you an og who followed along with the fan translation like I did? One of the best/funniest parts of getting into that duology was coming across Souseki and being like "if I had a nickel for every time I've encountered a piece of media that had an anime version of real-life author Natsume Souseki, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" lmao 😭

Since they're two of my favorite media, sometimes I try to imagine how a BSD/DGS crossover would work, and which characters would get along, though granted the only things they really have in common are detective work/mysteries, an old-fashioned aesthetic, and some similar themes lol... I just really love both of them a lot 🥹💖 Ryuunosuke and Atsushi being the exasperated straight men to the genius comedy duo that is Sholmes and Dazai? lmao (also Iris and Kyouka and their bunnies 🥹)

I need to play Hatoful Boyfriend. I've played lots of visual novels but that one is still on my to-play list (I don't know how seriously I'll be able to take it with bird sprites instead of actual human facial expressions, even though I fully trust that it is as good as its reputation says it is, but I'll just have to see for myself lmao)

Hsjfdnvskdf ok so I don't know what keeps happening to me with TGAA because I love it so much but I can't seem to write proper meta on it so. I just keep reiterating how much I like it lol. I got into it a bit later - I knew it existed almost since it came out in Japan but since I hadn't played original Ace Attorney, I avoided it for a long time. Then I saw a playthrough of the fan translation Case 1 and was hooked. By that point, I knew there was going to be a full English release so I waited for that because I wanted so badly to play it through! It's such a good game.

Oh, Graydon was interesting. That case was really fun, if it weren't for the fact that I figured out the key evidence really early and I kept trying to present it too soon aojsbsidhb. Graydon as a character was great because he's exactly as he appears but then there's just that bit more that fleshes him out and made him the slightest bit more sympathetic while not detracting from his actions. He was cool. (I actually had an idea for an after trial fic with him and the Skulkins but I don't think I'll ever get around to writing it :/)

Oh yeah I flipped out when I saw Natsume - my whole brain stopped (this was before my BSD obsession btw so this was very strange to me lol) and I shrieked out "NATSUME SOSEKI???" and my mom from the other room was just "???". yeah. And then he showed up again in BSD and I just said "...hi Natsume".

My favourites are the Mikotobas! Both Susato and Yuujin! They're such sweet people aghhhhh they deserve the world. But I really love all the main cast tbh. Ryuunosuke is such a dork but there's real personality to him, Sholmes is the perfect adaptation of that character, Gina should get all the puppies and friends she wants, and though I have some mixed feelings on him, I hope van Zieks gets a fucking break at some point (or just keep friendly tormenting him. I think it's good for him actually. unlearn your prejudices and relearn how to smile, you edgy vampire man.). Kazuma's arc was excellent and I wish so badly we could've gotten a true reunion scene with less of the baggage... actually, thinking about Kazuma for too long makes me ill. You essentially watch him break in the middle of court and it sucks. It sucks man.

And Iris was a standout character to me because her archetype could've so easily been bland or annoying but instead she's a realistic kid who happens to be a genius and she's kind and gets sad and angry and has depth and I would give her a big hug.

In terms of case specific characters, I liked Haori/Rei a lot, just because her dynamic with Susato was so silly and she's a cool gifted forensics student! She's awesome! I want to see her again!

However, my favourite was Olive. OLIVE. I adore her and I adore the twist with her. God she's so passive aggressive. Like damn. Have I mentioned that I adore her character? If Olive has only 1 fan then I am that fan. I wished we had gotten to consult with her again, even though that wouldn't have made much sense... just because she was interesting to me and I would've liked to have seen her character more fleshed out.

I'd really love to see a lot of these characters again. I've seen some people talking about Kazuma Asougi Investigations but tbh I'd really like to see Susato Mikotoba Investigations with Haori and Yuujin helping out! It'd be neat to see more Meiji Japan and Susato continue to grow as a character in her own right, since she started that journey in Chronicles. Oh well. I know that's a pipe dream but still.

Omg omg so Iris and Kyouka was such a sweet mental image that I had to doodle it!

I bet Kyouka would really find Iris's inventions fascinating and love to listen to how they work and stuff! I think they'd get along tbh. The idea of Sholmes and Dazai ever interacting terrifies me. Keep them away from each other. Please.

As for Hatoful, I am biased but I'd say it is well worth a playthrough. Given you like both DGS and BSD, I'd say you'll probably like it. My mom (who has also played it) and I were chatting about it recently and thinking that weirdly enough, BSD gives us a lot of the same vibes... like it's nowhere near identical, but that kind of desperate darkness where the characters are not who they appear to be at first and everyone has a different motive for doing what they do, but it's also not taking itself too seriously and it's still kinda silly... yeah. Same feel. It's better to go in with no expectations but I'm thinking of making a post later about why people should play that game... it's still one of my favourites of all time.

About the stock bird images: I know it's weird. I know it's weird that they're birds. But the best part of this game - to me, anyways - is that for as much as it is a gag, the story leans into it so heavily that you will quickly realize the main plot only makes logical sense if the main cast are birds and the player the only human. Like, it literally would not make sense otherwise. Please play it. It's wacky, it's zany, the characters have a good amount of depth, it's mildly traumatizing, it's one of the best things I've played and I feel it's become an inscrutable part of my identity. I am still obsessed with it many years later. That almost never happens to me. It's that good.

-have to say that i. did not super care for. the doctor the widow and the wardrobe -like. it was fine????? but i wasn’t like. super invested in it. didn’t keep a great deal of my interest? -there’s probably some words i could put together about the mothership thing of it all/the way moffat writes women continues to be a strange thing but i’m like. eh -that being said i do have A FEW NOTES OTHERWISE

-oh shout out to the chakoteya transcripts yet again for having the prequel in the transcript so i got to read that -eleven calling the tardis and pretending to talk to amy :( -he misses her :( so much :(

-what bothers me is like..............like i said the ending of the god complex was perfect. but then the time shenanigans of the wedding of river song happened and i feel like, kind of overwrote pieces of the ending of the god complex????? especially bc it. left a lot up in the air about what timelines happened. of course amy remembers them all but still it was like -where are they all now?? -i didn’t want a REHASHING of the conversation at the end of god complex but i wanted.........something else about. where eleven is and where amy and rory are -some of it is like.......excused away with, the doctor let them think he’s dead too, to protect them, like he was doing when he brought them home, and didn’t know river told them the truth, and stayed away for two years because he was afraid to be a part of their lives again until convinced by the spirit of christmas, as one does (-matt smith did the, sad miserable agonized fidgeting of a being so alone and so desperate for companionship and not always willing to let it happen sooooooooooo well btw) -i just. wish there had been. a little more there, before he came back for christmas, besides the prequel thing, just, more room for establishing what their relationship going forward is, after he gives them up in the god complex, after the wedding dances all over a million things -i was given minor consequences for ‘letting the world, including amy and rory, to an extent, think he’s dead’ though so there’s that -idk it’s just about the execution of it all again

-i liked having a separate tap for lemonade until i remembered uk lemonade is like. sprite -no hate on sprite but real live lemon lemonade is one of my absolute favorite drinks -“science-y wience-y” the wibbley wobbley marches on -ahhhh here is the “because they’re going to be sad later” -i was going to say something about companions and the doctors but i think i literally did bring up this line back in nine and ten in big notes part 1 when i went absolutely off about, companions and the doctors

-“everything about home that you miss until you can’t bear it. until you almost burst.” “till it hurts. is that what you mean?” -once again eleven’s benchmark for ‘the most gorgeous human hope and experience’ is ‘THE ABSOLUTE PAIN IT CAUSES’ and that’s endlessly fascinating to me. that it’s something he encourages in other people until it hurts, for reasons (here) or he has to be told it’s not quite that (back in victory of the daleks) bc that’s the kind of thing he’s constantly running from as eleven, because of ten (not to push that but it’s absolutely bc of ten.). that’s eleven’s view of what happens when you get too close or when you love, that it hurts -and it hurts him!!!!! all the time!!!!! constantly!!!!!! and he can’t find a middle ground!!!!!!!! there is no middle ground where the doctor is happy and everyone else is safe -which does cover a lot of why eleven stays away for so long and just leaves messages on their answering machine, in pond life, but it’s still not like.........idk -it is attempting to find a middle ground that can’t exist, and just, missed opportunities to me

-speaking of pond life, if we had also seen, more than just one scene of amy and rory’s relationship breaking apart -i wondered if like. there were hints in there anyway. and i think you could MAYBE make a very slim case if you squinted but i’m not like. really committed to it -does it make more sense if we don’t see a reason right away, and we just see them broken up, or to have really seen them fall apart? like, is there an advantage, narratively, or is it fine either way -but also, like........................................... -the reason they do break up. -mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 

-on the one hand -- actual, legit consequences from demon’s run! -on the other hand!!!!! consequences we didn’t know about until they can conveniently be pulled out of nowhere for an angst reason!!!!! -i think you can also try and excuse away some of this by saying that amy and rory’s relationship had of course changed after demon’s run but also. again. we don’t see that changing. we can say, yeah, that’s probably why, but we don’t?? see it happen??? -I DON’T WANT IT TO COME ACROSS AS LIKE. I HAVE THIS OBSESSION WITH NEEDING THINGS TO BE VISUALLY SHOWN IN ORDER TO MATTER OR ANYTHING, -BECAUSE I DON’T, -IMPLICATION IS FINE, -BUT THAT’S THE THING, I DON’T THINK WE’RE GETTING IT IMPLIED EITHER, we can figure out a reason, but we don’t even get that reason IMPLIED anywhere, as actually existing in canon, and not just fandom going ‘that’s probably why’ -that’s what i mean about seeing things -i know i personally have an obsession with needing, in my own life, things to be talked out to death in order to understand myself and other people, and that that’s a thing that might sometimes enter my writing and i could write too on-point conversations instead of sometimes the more implied conversation vibes people do actually irl converse in too -but when i say ‘i wanted to see this’ i don’t mean i wanted to see them talk things to death!!! i do mean i wanted it implied!!!!!!!! somewhere!!!!! anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!! in any way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -i want to see anger!! i want to see them taking things out on each other!! i want to see distance!!! -and pond life would’ve been great for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-WE ALSO HAVE NO REASON TO THINK OR BELIEVE UNTIL IT’S EVEN MENTIONED THAT RORY ALWAYS WANTED KIDS. -that’s not a thing we know about rory at ALL until amy says so. -amy not being able to have children is a thing we don’t even know either, until now! (-i mean yes we get foreshadowing. but it’s also like. literally never discussed, until now) -and that’s the dissolution of their relationship????? just not being able to have kids???????????? -we have no idea that would’ve been a dealbreaker, or thought to be a dealbreaker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -i actually thought that amy and rory had like, matured to a point as well that they WOULD talk about that. that would be a thing amy would be able to talk about with rory -amy’s modus operandi (please read that in david lynch’s voice) is very much burying how much things mean to her and how much people mean to her and putting up walls between her and other people bc of her struggles in making connections and feeling alone but i also thought that she’d really, honestly connected with rory by this point, and that they had a vibe where they could talk about something like that, or, even just sort of talk about it -or that rory, as well, would be at a point where he wouldn’t think “i love her more than she loves me” anymore -but that’s also a lot of.........we do get relationship development with amy and rory i think but i don’t think their characters ever get stressed or developed as much as i personally want them to

-i do remember the absolute CHOKEHOLD asylum of the daleks had on tumblr when it aired, or at least it felt like that to me, with how my dashboard looked after it aired -also me, at a family baby shower in 2012: so yeah, that episode sure happened, didn’t it? and bbc sherlock, that happened too, back in january. my grandmother and my aunt, still watching new who and bbc sherlock, along with my uncle (although i think this might’ve been around when they all tapped out, of both shows): yep. -chokehold, though. i think the original gifs of that when everyone was screeching over souffle girl live rent-free in my head. i recognized many a gif finally watching this episode.

-AND IT’S CLARA TIME!!!!!! IT’S CLARA TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -it’s not so much that i’m interested in the impossible girl aspect of clara. that i think will in fact be something i will likely get bitchy about. count on it -it’s that i think clara looks fun and she’s adorable. -and not that i’m looking forward to face the raven particularly, down the line, but that i’m interested in how clara becomes more like the doctor than most other companions, even if a great deal of them become like the doctor in certain ways, it’s the way it happens with clara -also she seems spunky.

-and she delivered, in finally seeing the episode!! i thought she was really fun. -however yep the little look at the camera. that bothered me. that’s such a moffat wink wink nudge thing. yes that’ll become a Thing ~ don’t forget ~ isn’t that something to think about ~~~~~ -her being turned into a dalek was very heartbreaking though :( like genuinely sadder than i had pictured from again the gifs that have lived rent-free in my head for ten years (-oh i felt that way about doomsday, too. the gifs don’t do that wall justice.) -the insistence on her humanity, even as she’s having it taken away from her - “i was going through a phase.” a woman can love another woman without you making a joke out of it, moffat. without it being a phase. without this need to write bi and lesbian women who have an obsession with men and downplaying loving women

-the idea of being converted into a dalek is so interesting. like the partial conversion. the foreshadowing that they didn’t remember being converted -but does it like........make sense that the daleks would convert humans??? for their intelligence? -i mean, maybe? to make them into daleks, to be of use, to be the dalek’s idea of a superior being -but it also seems a little beneath them, to think of human intelligence as worthy to the point they would convert a human to keep it -/takes a moment to think not quite fondly but with enduring interest about dalek sec. daleks in manhattan/evolution of the daleks was such a time.

-you know eleven is very angry in this episode. the doctor is usually more angry than usual with the daleks, but idk i also thought it went deeper than that. like eleven’s anger is very dark and bitter and that’s clear here - “they say you can help.” “do they. i wish they’d stop.” - “what do we do?” “make them remember you.” - “who destroyed all the daleks?” “who do you think?” -not to mention, invoking the doctor as the oncoming storm! -the history!! the history that’s dead now!!!! -he’s alone a lot now. (well. APPARENTLY? MAYBE?? I DON’T KNOW) -and that’s why the doctor shouldn’t travel alone, bc of that unchecked rage, especially bc eleven is also. presumed dead -and it’s once again bc amy is threatened, and eleven will do anything if that happens

-i will give moffat this. the daleks were scary in this one - “the daleks have no concept of elegance.” vs “does it surprise you to know the daleks have a concept of beauty?” -well. quite frankly yeah. but ultimately i guess not. sure fine why not -i don’t think ‘asylum’ necessarily works but like i don’t have the energy to get into that. i’m sure other people have before me

- “not one of those things you can fix.” - “it’s just life. that thing that happens when you’re not there.” - :( -life happens with the doctor vs it also doesn’t because that is a shiny sparkly adventure life with one foot on a death rollerskate and nothing like what Life is vs what people think of as a life definitely happens more without the doctor vs the ongoing thought of the doctor could never have a normal life vs the “then what is the point of you?” of it all, if the doctor can’t fix things vs reaching the point where you know you can’t ask the doctor to fix things bc it’s not that kind of problem. it’s not fixable like that. vs but maybe it should have been, especially because it was for amy, amy needed him and she needed him to fix everything and he wasn’t there for her

- “doctor who?” ALL the daleks ever just forgetting about them bc clara wipes the doctor from the hivemind is honestly hilarious, but it’s also very much ‘the question is coming and don’t you forget it!’ but i guess. done in a better way than usual, i think. bc it is really funny

-can amy and rory and the doctor sit down and have a fucking conversation at the end of this episode???? why not, bc he still doesn’t want to involve them????? well it’s a little fucking late now, i think!!!!!!! -i mean i know they all get yoinked into this but like!! CAN WE JUST ESTABLISH THE NEW VIBE OR SOMETHING -i guess it’s whatever now but!!! yknow!!!!!!!

-poor amy almost gets turned into a weeping angel and now almost gets turned into a dalek -so were the images of the humans......1) a hallucination bc of amy turning into a dalek 2) a perception filter?? 3) an implication that the daleks there were humans too? 4) that daleks would want to be? 5) do i need to think about it that hard???? there’s just such an emphasis on that scene, and i just. remember seeing the gif of the ballet dancer soooooooooooo often and the scene is just treated so. elegantly 

-oh newish intro and colors and fonts!!! -that was fun. -it’s dinosaur time next!! (i get the feeling the dinosaur episode was not particularly popular??? idk dinosaurs sound like, at least a time, of some sort.)

OH btw i did get kamitsubaki city ensemble and it aint half bad!!! specifically i bought the main game at 5 bucks (its going for that specific style of rhythm game pricing where the main game is like pennies but the DLC is a bajillion doll hairs LOL) which I found worth it for what it is, I dunno about the fifty buck season pass tho, I'd wait until I was sure I really REALLY liked the gameplay first

i think this style of rhythm gameplay is called 7k or 7key in a lot of circles (osu thing?) I DONT know how i feel about it. i think im getting used to it and finding it pretty fun, although the spacebar thumb notes are really hard for me LOL

the UI is super mobile game which makes sense because it has a mobile version and the gameplay seeeeems like itd be more fun on mobile at first BUT i do think its odd because like...... the beatmaps are NOT made for thumb players.... even for finger players it seems like some of those edge double notes would be kind of tough... so as a thumb player i went with the pc ver <3

the songs are fun though, like not just the existing songs but also the game's general score is nice and the theme song Cradle RULES. the beatmaps seem fine so far, although I am not practiced enough to go past normal mode yet so we shall see. I do think the game needs some colour options though, the colour that the lanes light up is like a few degrees too similar of a blue to the colour of the hold notes and it fucks me up constantly orz also the 7lane side lane notes are yellow and the middle spacebar note is white which is a good contrast, but part of me wants a bit more colour coding, its hard to keep track of it all. I also don't care for the colour coding vanishing when its a double note, now i have no clue what lane its in graaaaaahhhhhh

BUT its fun so far. be careful about playing it on a low powered or old computer if you have issues with flashing, I had a bunch of weird sprite clipping in and out issues during the cutscenes on my old laptop. it slowed down after an hour so maybe it was an issue booting up? the colours and flashing rhythm sections are probably rough for some as well as another warning

the plot is kind of fun, im enjoying it because im 26 and can no longer deal with gacha games BUT i still like mascot character rhythm games so its nice to have this game just as is for a fiver (ignoring the odd DLC pricing LOL) i like the haunting sort of surreal aspects so far and the characters are cute and fun ALTHOUGH it is odd seeing Kafu with this sort of personality. shes not bad shes just a lot sweeter and peppier than I and I think a lot of people pictured her LOL we all just pictured her as like kind of brooding idk.... the others are how i picture them though, especially coko as pretty outgoing and sekai as kind of quiet and weird <3 I ALSO like the weird freak thang.. whale? i forgot its name. i have the flu you have to be nice to me.

LEMME TELL YOU though. i never realized. until this game. how unhinged iyowa song beatmaps can get. i should have expected because of all those like speeding up slowing down tempo changey parts in some of their songs but MAN. it was like the scariest beatmap I'd ever seen, Leave You on The Back of The Earth. I really did feel like I was in a falling elevator

ੈ✩‧₊˚Donnie loves to talk about his inventions! Everyone knows that. So when he gets near the reader, why does he get so quiet? Anyone sniffing out some 2018 glmm? Many adventures indeed, some easy while others aren't.This is the prologue btw.

(chapter 1)

Something had been off about Donnie. You weren't sure why, but everytime you walked in the room his face would turn slightly red, and he would start mumbling in the middle of his science rants. If you had made a move to stand 6 feet from him, he would either find somewhere else to sit, or he would leave the room. The weird part was, you and Donnie were besties. He would let you into his lab, you ask him about his day, and sometimes he would even let you help on the small parts of inventions! 

Nowadays he avoids you, every time you walk in his lab he stays quiet the whole time. One day even went as far as ignoring you the whole time at the lair. When you asked about it, his face got red, he looked to the side, and walked away slowly. At first you thought nothing of it, maybe you got a bit close to Donnie and he needed space, but this has been going on for almost half a year. The only words you guys occasionally share are "Hey", "greetings", and "see you later". And don't get me started on texting.

"Is he angry at me? If so, he needs to let me know…what's going on Dee?" I asked as I was laying down on my bed, the room decorated with bits and pieces of sewer decor from the turtles. Mikey and Leo would show up and give me small rocks, chunks of cool shaped metals, and vintage or rare items that were once lost. To put it simply, my whole room looked like a garage for a mini hoarder. 

My phone fell on my face for the umpteenth time, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be bruised by now.

As soon as I sat up, I got a text from the team's group chat. I think I'm their getaway, and sometimes last resort to things because I don't join missions often. Which is fine with me, I have school and exams for the end of the year.

As Mikey was the last to respond, I closed my phone and grabbed my shoes and hurried behind my apartment. I lift the cover and look away, needing a few moments before the stench went back into my nose. I jumped into the sewers, already regretting it as gunk splashed onto my legs. I gag aggressively, this shit is chunky and slimy as fuck. No matter how many times I jump in, I will still never get used to it. I get out of the weird stuff, and run on the side, rushing to the lair.

I'm so glad I memorized the way from the house to the lair, or I would've been lost by now. I see fairy lights as I approach the turtle's home, no one seems to be in the main atrium. Infact, the whole place seems to be empty, except for Donnie's lab. I huff heavily and groan at the thought of having to climb after running.

I climb up to the second floor and walk towards the purple doors. Me not running, and not doing the pacer test has put a strain on me. I stood up straight and fixed my hair, along with my clothes, and took a deep breath before knocking.

"Hey guys? You in there, you said that something's wrong with Donnie?" I called out, a few beats of silence before the door suddenly opened. I was instantly dragged into the room of tech, purple and blue lights tinting everything inside. Turns out, it was Mikey who grabbed me. He looked panicked as we went towards Donnie's computer.

"Leo said something about you taking too long? And then Raph went after him, April is busy right now, and you know Dad…" Mikey explained as he shoved me to the screen. Looking closely, you could see a sprite of Donnie going in circles, like it was a loading screen.

"Donnie making a game of himself is normal, what's wrong?" I was starting to get impatient, if this was a prank I'm beating that turtle's ass.

"That's the problem! That IS Donnie!! We went to Mystic City, and Donnie bought this sketchy game called- i-don't know! it's these weird symbols!" He showed the case of the game, me only noticing now that his hands were shaking. '⚐☠☜ 💧☟⚐❄' was plastered along the screen.

"One shit?" I said aloud, the language confusing me. My hands were on my hips now, deadpanning at Mikey. Now this is just getting annoying.

"Huh? you can read it?"

"Of course, as a former Undertale fan, that font is called wingdings. That's not the point though, where is Donnie so I can shove this shi up-"

"B-but [name]! Donnie is in the game. I'm serious! He went in after he pressed start! Or enter? I DON'T KNOW!! I just want my brother back." He started crying, grabbing my legs and sobbing into my knees.

"hush sweet child, I'll get him out" I say, nearing my hand to the keyboard, struggling to stand because of Mikey's grip.

"[name]? what are you-waitwaitwait-Dont- NOO!" It was too late, as I had already tripped over, pressing the button. My body started to pixelate and slowly fade. Is this Jumanji? IM GONNA FUCKIN DIE-

"MIKEY GO TO YOUR BROTHERS, HURRY DUDE!!"As if the game had heard me, my body started fading faster, making me panic. Mikey went to go to the door, only to be blasted back by Raph and Leo.

"[NAME]? ARE YOU- oh shit"

"MIKEY WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN THEM?"

"I DI-"

As a last attempt for survival, yelled, "LEO LIKES DIii-" Cutting me off as my mouth was the last to fade away.

"Leo likes WHAT?" A gruff and deep voice said, before my environment changed a lot.

This was the last thing I heard, before I myself going in a vertical circle. Weirdly, it didn't make me dizzy, in fact it calmed me down. I then saw all white, before flashes of color spread all around me,
