So the Sonic brainrot has set in hard… whee adhd hyperfixations… these little guys just won’t leave my brain…

It’s gotten so bad I’ve decided to write a more lighthearted modern AU where no one died… except maybe Mrs. Robotnik… and tails parents maybe… it rearranged canon a lot and if there’s more interest I’ll go deeper into it. This sketch started as drawing of the angsty little family I’d assembled for Shadow, then I wanted to draw Sonic… then it got out of hand. I had ones I wanted to do, but ran out of outfit ideas… I’m not good at costuming… the best outfits are the only ones I had real ideas for.

Sorry guys I haven’t actually played most games or read most books but I have watched too much official and unofficial Sonic content…

i check twitter every once in awhile and i don’t have the app becus i do not feel like brainrotting myself even more 😭 but for me it’s mostly becus it has some GOOD sonamy food (art). however, whenever i’m scrolling through i have to see the shit that the sonamy channel posts and my lord are they annoying. like jesus bro can’t handle people liking any other ship becus they aren’t canon, along with being based on biases apparently (which like…yeah mf that’s kinda the point…you just like what you wanna like???) also people say therye an incel too so that’s cute! and then non sonamy shippers will think we all agree with them and that is far from the truth. they are the epitome of needless discourse and feeling the need to defend something that is so minuscule and literally fictional constantly like you’re fighting for your life. and plus many of the posts that aren’t necessarily problematic are just a stretch sometimes. they’ll be like “omg do you think sonic and amy will have a super romantic scene in the third movie?!?1!1?1!” (this is not verbatim and i’m slightly exaggerating) and as a sonamy fan i can tell you that probably won’t be the case and what is the point in the extreme speculation if she isn’t even confirmed to be in the movie yet and we have like no fucking trailer at all yet. and i’m sad to admit i used to follow them on insta (where i didn’t know how much drama they got into becus there’s no threads and such) and i slowly had to realize how ridiculous their claims were over time and eventually unfollowed. like do they sometimes post decent moments and observations about sonamy? yes. but rather than in a wholesome “omg look at my cute ship” way, it’s like “omg sega did this right here so therefore my ship is canon and it’s the best and i hope they do this next pretty please”. i’m just. so done bro 💀 like i said this is why i don’t have twitter it’s actual bootycheeks on here. it goes even further than that and random people will start arguments in the sonic fandom every day such as which way sonic’s shoes are drawn is better or sonic prime vs mickey mouse clubhouse (credit to sonicbits on insta for keeping me updated without making me open the website, you a real one ong).

thanks, lmao, I fear having "Wires" on there outs me so strongly as having been in high school when that song was released. But yeah, it's just too good to pass up with lines like "Mr. Know-it-all had his reign and his fall," and obviously "the wires got the best of him / all that he invested in goes / straight to hell."

Then there are these lines:

recall for me Nixon's farewell speech to his staff, which has a similarly "instructive" quality towards the audience as the subject does towards the singer in this stanza. "Admits to every little flaw" makes me think of this uncharacteristically self-aware statement from Nixon near the end of the speech (the whole thing is a wild ride): "Always give your best, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself."

I gotta admit that I don't use tiktok so I had never heard "Alien Blues" before. I just listened to it and yeah I can see it, esp, the lines you mentioned. Ppl are saying this is abt drugs? But the part where it goes:

My teeth are yellow, hello world Would you like me a little better if they were white like yours?

kinda reeks of Nixon's whole inferiority complex with JFK lmao. to me it's the same vibe as "everybody, oh, they love a winner / so nobody loved me" from "Maybe This Time" which is on my playlist.

Your ask also reminded me of two of my honorable mentions: 1 - "On the Beach" by Neil Young and 2 - "Critical Mistakes" by 888. These are songs are kind of similar theme-wise despite being very sonically different - both of them make me think of those pics of Nixon walking stiltedly on the beach. "On the Beach" didn't make the cut purely because I felt it was too similar to "Shadow of a Lonely Man," but there are some good lines:

Neil Young has mentioned Nixon a bunch of times directly and indirectly in his songs ("Ohio," the last verse of "Ambulance Blues," "Campaigner" which I did include, maybe more?). The album cover for On the Beach also includes a newspaper with a headline calling on Nixon to resign.

From "Critical Mistakes" only the chorus ("I want a house on the hill by the ocean / I'd let the tide wash away all my critical mistakes") is relevant. But it does make me think of Nixon retiring to his house in San Clemente in disgrace lmaoooo.

And phew ok sorry for writing an essay here. If I start talking about music I will not shut up unfortunately. I could do a breakdown of every song on the Nixlist (here's a spotify link) but I will hold back.

GOD Sonic And Tails R is so entertaining and so so sooo great! I've already listened to it before but man I can't get enough of it! All the VAs are so talented and each one really makes me focus on listening intently. And the story of it is something so simple yet hasnt been explored by the actual franchise and is looking to be a fun time! And man, I really dont wanna discredit all the other VAs, especially since each one I do respect and appreciate what they've done for the Sonic franchise as a whole (Mr. Mike Pollock being Eggman longer than anyone else has been any other character, Ms. Emi Jones doing a fantastic performance as Tails and being a big part of the Sonic fanbase for a long time, And Mr. David Humphrey for being one of the best VAs in all of the Sonic series!) But man..Mr. Ryan Drummond. The Man himself still gots it. He is my favorite voice of Sonic and I can never get enough of hearing him as the blue blur. I'd say more but what else can I say? He was amazing and still is as Sonic the Hedgehog! I'm really looking forward to friday's episode!

This is BugBear, aka Jewel the Beetle and Bark the Polar Bear. I've been losing my absolute mind over this rarepair for... Two years now?

The two have NEVER canonically met, but the pair was inspired by @bitter-sweet-coffee reminding me this moment exists in the IDW Sonic comics:

(Jewel is 2'7" tall, that is Storm the Albatross holding her in that panel, he stands at 4'7" tall. Bark himself is 5'11" tall. This is all important to the madness.)

BSC and I had set out to make a gag ship for laughs initially. How funny would it be to see tiny Jewel paired up with one of the 4 foot plus, muscular characters? It'd be COMICAL-

Until we settled on Bark, and it instantly quit being funny.

Jewel is an anxious sweetheart, and Bark is a shy, soft spoken gentle giant. Both of them have crazy best friends they desperately attempt to wrangle (with little success). They deserve a quiet relationship where they don't have to constantly be on and ready for the other to do something completely insane and potentially dangerous.

Jewel would be a little afraid of Bark upon first meeting him, but she'd see the real him and warm up eventually.

Speaking of warming up, I like to play with the fact that the Sonic characters are animals and bring in what species are cold blooded and warm blooded into my shipping shenanigans. Who would make a better cuddle buddy than A MASSIVE POLAR BEAR???

So, as for it being discovered by the comic writers... I took a brief peek at your blog and didn't see anything to indicate if you're in the Sonic fandom, so I will keep this brief. Ian Flynn is one of the main writers on the IDW Sonic comics. He also runs a podcast called the BumbleKast, and back on Valentine's Day they made the BOLD DECISION to discuss shipping. Oh boy...

Their guest... Commentator? (I don't go to podcasts typically, not certain what the terminology is for what the speakers are called. 🤷) @/pedanticat (Not sure if they want the tag, so I will spare them from being part of this essay for now.) brought up the ship during the episode, having either seen it floating around on here, or over on Twitter when I posted some art by hansuart and @seagull-scribbles (both posted with permission) over there. And like... BugBear isn't like some other rarer Sonic ships where a couple people might've had the idea independently of each other and it's hard to gauge who got there first. Unless I'm missing someone or something, I'M the first person to mention it, and the art that does exist of it exists because I infected the artists with the same brainrot... So... Oops...

The ship was brought up during the question at 46:03 (Have you ever seen shipping fanart of two Sonic characters that made you go "Huh, I never thought of that pairing, but I could see it working"?)
