Good day Prince Ari! I had recently gotten the thought of going to Lantern Rite with a few of our anemo friends, (Xiao, Sucrose, Kazuha) with the prompt “Id fall inlove again every summertime” based on my favorite song Summertime - NIKI. Thank you once again, and apologies for suddenly appearing in your inbox. How are things with you? I do hope you are doing well. Id also like to announce a friend of mine has appeared on your inbox as well! Please treat them well. <3 - 🍀
“ a lantern rite date “
tws // none! pure fluff fluff fluff
pairing // xiao, sucrose, kazuha x gn!reader (seperate)
genre // try to guess
authors note // OMG HI 🍀ANON!! i havent seen u in a while, im doing fine ty for asking! i got carried away with this ask cause its so cute 😭😭 also i gave summertime a listen and ur music taste?? SO GOOD!! you arent disturbing me its fine!! enjoy <3 wc: 1.7k (WOHOO)
xiao was hesitant going to lantern rite with you. hes not fond of large crowds and loud spaces, but the fact you offered to show him the best area made him interested at least. as you described, the area you two were going to had a nice breeze, soft grass and almost no one was there. another bonus was the fact you saw the entire harbor by just sitting there. the location was empty so he was afraid of any danger living in the corners waiting for the right time to jump out and attack, but you managed to convince him anyway. “fine, ill go.” you smile, “great! shall we get going then, mr. adeptus?”. the night was cold already, so you wonder if it'll be colder on the hill. xiao seemed unbothered by the weather and kept walking. he was shyly offering his hand to which you take happily, intertwining your fingers together. xiao looked away blushing, you chuckle at his actions. archons, hes too adorable to resist! “oh, its this place.” the thoughts in his mind finally goes away once xiao realizes it was safe. he had been here before, infact he had some friends with him. “you’ve been here?” he hums.
“yes, i have. the other.. adeptus, went here with me at some point. forget about it- its nothing worth mentioning.” he sat down on the grass, breathing deeply and relaxing, letting his shoulders drop and rest. you do the same, but theres not much of a difference since you’ve been fine the entire day. the chattering in the harbor was heard all the way from here. the setting of the lanterns slowly lit up the sky, you smiled- tapping his shoulder to make him look up with you. the lanterns colored the night with a bright orange and yellow. you stared at awe, while xiao was staring at something else. you looked so, beautiful, so surreal. the way the lanterns lit up behind you, the light scattering around your figure. he wanted this to last forever, xiao wanted to be with you forever. just when you think the show was over, the sky was bright with colorful fireworks. a blue one exploding in the air, while a pink and orange one follow after. you saw the fireworks turn into the shape of mora, animals, and other everyday symbols. “f/n-“ you looked over at the adeptus, it really seemed like you had a permanent smile on your face. “mhm?” you respond, he looks down at the qingxing flower he picked up from god knows where. “thank you for, bringing me here.” his lips curve slightly. he wanted to stop the moment and stay like this. xiao whispered a small “i love you” and hugged your waist from behind, while you two continue watching the fireworks in awe.
“sucrose, have you been to liyue?” you ask the alchemist. she has been fixing the things she messed up from her last experiment, “liyue? i think ive been there with timaeus once, but i havent been there personally.” you looked over at her in shock, “oh, is that so..” your gaze on her hasnt left, turning your body towards the alchemist and putting your head on her shoulder. “then ill invite you to lantern rite, just you and me!” the alchemist couldve sworn she almost dropped something. “im not sure if mr. albedo would allow me, plus! i dont think i have the free time either.” you pouted, playfully tapping her back “we’ll make free time then, ill pick you up at 5, sounds good? great!” without giving her the time to make a proper response, unless you count silent mumbling, you left the laboratory and gave her a goodbye wave. a few hours of waiting, thats it right? im sure you’re patient enough for that. im just kidding- you went around mondstadt, you know sucrose loved something like “modifying life”. eventually going out towards the gates and finding a flower on your way to windrise. thinking this would be good enough, you walked back to mondstadt, flower in hand. “f/n! you actually came- i thought your invite was just a joke but then i thought ‘why would you joke about that?’ and started questioning you even more like, why would you even want to invite me? out of all people? you could've gotten mr. albedo or even kaeya!“ when she started mumbling, fiddling with her fingers. you put the flower behind her ear, tucking it in, some of her hair following. her ears twitched a little and she had this small blush on her face. “you look cute, sucrose.” you realize she looks even more amazing with the flower you got her! “lets go, shall we?” reaching your arm out to her, she wraps hers with yours in response. the journey was quite long, you two went on a boat to get to liyue faster- all thanks to a captain friend of yours. “well well, you better get going you lovebirds! the show starts in exactly 20 minutes, you still have time to go shopping. or if you have nothing else to get, go to your location. unless you need me to get there, again.” the purple haired captain teased, turning her back against you two. you thank her and bowed your head slightly while she raised her hand as a ‘no problem’. you go around the harbor’s shops. sucrose just stared at awe in how nicely decorated it is. “you hungry? i can get some food for us if you want” you asked, offering to go to this specific restaurant as it served good food for quite a cheap price. you went on and on with the. shop names and what they offered, “im fine with whatever you pick.” she said, her mind too occupied with some other thoughts. “wanmin restaurant it is then!”, you held her hand, swaying it as you walked. sucrose spotted a shop she had interest in. once you realized she stopped walking, you went over to her and buying what she found. “here, let me help you wear it.” putting the scarf around her. “thank you, f/n. i really liked the design! look! it has small flowers on it, oh oh and this too!” she pointed around the designs, you let out a light chuckle as she smiled at you with excitement. right after greeting xiangling, seeing chongyun and xingqiu hanging out together with her, you and sucrose went near the docks to watch the lanterns. the sky was bright, it felt as if the sun was still there, setting with a vibrant orange. sucrose looked so amazed, the voices of everyones reactions were drowned with the sound of fireworks setting off and the person infront of you speaking. “thank you for letting me go here with you, f/n.” her amber eyes looking at yours, squeezing your hand tightly- not enough to hurt you. “yeah, we should.. do this yearly.” you suggested, sucrose looked back at the sky, enjoying the view
you and kazuha we’re just returning back to liyue after having the traveler meet up with thoma once more in ritou. you two said your goodbye’s and stay safe’s. “man, that traveler, really set to find her brother huh?” the captain spoke. “it is her mission after all. wouldn't you go look for a lost loved one as well, beidou?” kazuha replied, coming back from the edge of the boat. “huh, you’re right. are they both really that close?” she asked. you didnt bother joining in the conversation, busy with something else. “its safe to assume that, ive heard her mention something about her and her brother visiting world after world together. it was until a few months ago when they got seperated.” kazuha made his way to you, his fingers brushing over your palm and kissing your knuckles. “yeah yeah ive heard of the story- oh?” beidou shouted, voice lowering when she saw a lantern float out to the sea with letters saying “reunite”. three figures were drawn, two siblings and a smaller figure. “its that time of the year again for liyue harbor. say, dove, would you like to see the lanterns with me?” his voice rather low and raspy. “id love to, kazuha.” you smile back. your little moment ruined with beidou telling one of the crewmates to set the anchor down, it was when you realized you were nearing guyun stone forest. once you all settle near the mountain, kazuha grabs your hand as you two drop down to the land. you make your way to the harbor, seeing that familiar red gate and rich brown bridge. the inazuman stopped his tracks, heading to a different direction. you quickly follow him so you wouldnt get lost- as he leads you to one of his favorite spots. the way there is steep, but it was worth it, you sat down the grass and waited for the lanterns. “you know the lantern we saw earlier at the ship?” nodding, kazuha moves closer to you, taking and holding your hand. “i realized that it was probably from the traveler.” he looks down at your fingers, moving it around before bringing it close to his lips. “how so? the traveler is in inazuma right now, and we saw it coming from liyue’s direction…” kazuha kisses your knuckles one by one, they were soft, you could barely feel the warmth. as if it was ghosting over it. the lanterns slowly set off in the sky, your attention from your lover switched to the bright paper floating. it started with 6 lanterns, then 30, then every single one. it looked like the sunset, pretty and vibrant. “its beautiful as always, just like you.” you fluster at his words, about to speak when the fireworks had interrupted you. “that was, unexpected.” you whisper, he nods and uses his hand to cup your cheeks. “it really is, i dont remember there being fireworks during lantern rite.” he kisses you, on your cheeks then to your lips. your gaze never leaving the show infront of you. hearing the words “i love you” for so many times during the day, you felt as this one was more special than the rest..

bonsoir ! my name is sam, its 5:30 am as im writing this, and im a mess. i use she/her pronouns and im from aus – hence the being up at 5:30am for opening and still being late smh. i have a habit of rambling so sorry for this intro in advance lmao. but thats more than enough about me, let’s talk about the other and more important mess, reed’s token aries: K O D A R E I D
tws: mentions of divorce, drugs, and ya know the murders
STATS.
full name: dakota reid
best known as: koda
age: twenty five
gender + pronouns: non-binary, they/them
occupation: waiter/bartender at salvatore’s steakhouse, aspiring podcaster
hometown: reed, virginia
star sign: aries
traits: jovial, creative, adventurous, confident, detached, cruel, impulsive, lazy
drink / smoke / drugs: yes / yes / yes
MORE INFO.
born and raised in reed, they’ve honestly left the area maybe a handful of times. not for a lack of wanting to, they certainly have wanted to and still want to, just a lack of money and time and motivation to plan anything “””big”””” (leaving ur town is not big but koda is lazy) in their lives
im gonna try not to get too into it bc i will go on forever but two important things to mention as far as their childhood. the first, when koda was sixteen their parents went through a really fuckin rough divorce. and like any sixteen yr old whose parents are getting divorced it pissed koda off. they have a moderately better relationship with them now but at the time, it was messy. at first, koda was very outwardly emotional about it, but as their emotions were just used as a weapon for their parents to use against one another they shut that shit down immediately. only showed their emotions in a way that was more of a nuisance to their parents: graffiti, petty shoplifting, being a dickhead in school, flunking grades (though they werent great to begin with), sneaking out all the time, all that bs
which leads to thing two: koda was a dealer towards the end of high school/the start of young adulthood. nothing big, bc they were a dumbass teenager in a small town just looking to piss their parents off. but because they were a dumbass teenager in a small town i assume theres a good possibility that if ur character is from reed: koda was their dealer. eventually they stopped bc people figured out they were just a sometimes v annoying middle man for the much easier to deal with guy that koda bought from + too much work. like most things to koda, drugs were meant to be just a fun past time, not a full time career.
after barely finishing high school they had absolutely no want to go to college. even at local reed college it was a lot of money to put down and for what???? for koda to do an arts degree they dont really care about and then do nothing with it ????? instead they just worked more. they’ve had the job at salvatore’s since they were fifteen and its really a staple in their lives.
when they are not at salvatore’s, they’re still being a menace tbh that did not end with high school or even the dealing. they’re usually skating around (would also be driving around and sometimes they are but its illegal because they recently had their licence suspended), probably spray painting some fence, maybe takin some photos on their barely working dslr, partying, drinking, stealing shopping carts from the local grocer, being a dickhead, u know the ~usual
despite being the local, so far they’ve not had any close connections to the parkway victims and thats unfortunately made them pretty insensitive about it. they’re far, far more interested in figuring out what the fuck is going on than they care about u know the loss of life and danger to everyone else in the town. in stats i mentioned they were an aspiring podcaster and thats because, u guessed it, koda wants to start a podcast about the murders they’re a piece of shit we already know this
and since this isn’t showing in the tags anyways: here’s a link to their pinterest board
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
housemates – koda is a broke mf, i want this connection to be with other broke mfs that are leasing a shitty house and probably have one too many people in it, but like: it works yk
childhood friends – obv koda has lived in reed their whole life, they’re from a very working class family, can be a connection through family or just through school im down for whatever
actual friends – this is probably gonna be limited to like a couple bc koda is so closed off lmao. while they’re friendly and enthuastic with just about everyone, theres not many koda actually considers genuine friends, these are the exceptions
co-workers – koda is confirmed annoying most of the time but they are at their peak annoying at work so if anyone else works at salvatore’s a. im so sorry b. lmk lets plot
party people – do u do drugs and other reckless impulsive bs at house parties? then this might be the connection for u bih – bonus if they’ve been partying together for fuckin ever
an easy thing – literally just the song easy thing by dom ferra. an easy romance, very much in its early stages, prob not official at this point, kinda learning what being in a relationship should mean together. only open to f/nb sorry lads
then just everything idk i need to start getting ready for work but pls hmu if u would like to plot ✌️

The 4400 AU
In short: Time Travel Shenanigans AU where Katsuki Bakugou is a first generation Japanese American immigrant who was born in 1936 and got sent to the future in 1952. Eijirou Kirishima is a gay american punk from new york living through the AIDs epidemic, born in 1970 and sent to the future in 1986. More information below the cut!
♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
Please Reblog & consider following! Buy me a Coffee? https://ko-fi.com/O5O36YKF
Do you know The 4400? Its a show where, over the last 50 years, there have been 4,400 specific disappearances. In the modern day, a ball of light is on a collision course with earth. Before it crashes it slows down, then in a bright flash it deposits all 4,400 of those people. Not one of them has aged a day since their initial disappearance. By all accounts, they were just at the spot and time of their disappearance mere moments ago, even though many occurred decades previously. They’re held for 6 weeks by the government before its determined that they and their families have the right for them to be freed, on the condition that they return for weekly check-ins. Interestingly, after their reappearance, the 4400 begin to display supernatural abilities....
My friend @albino-pony suggested this au! Its one I’ve gotten really into even though I’ve only ever seen the first episode of the show. I’m not entirely sure how to format this so its interesting, but I figure that if you clicked on the readmore and you’re still reading, then you’re ok with some info dumps. So here’s these boys individual timelines. TW For era typical homophobia and racism.
Katsuki
Mitsuki was born in 1914 in Japan’s Aomori prefecture. She was born with albinism, giving her blonde hair and blue eyes. In 1928 Mitsuki immigrated with her family to the United States at age 14, where they were processed at Angel Island, and moved into San Francisco shortly thereafter. She, her parents, and older brother all got jobs as soon as they could. In 1932, amidst the Great Depression, she met Masaru Bakugou and married him in the spring of 1934.
In 1936 Masaru and Mitsuki had their first child, a boy who inherited her albinism, and named him Katsuki. They do their best to provide for him, but it's the Great Depression and they're immigrants who only speak English so well. They scrape by, providing for their boy as best they can. They normally leave their son in the care of an Inko Midoriya, a fellow Japanese immigrant who is being supported by her fairly successful husband.
Then in 1939, things are stabilizing again. Life is getting easier. They still work themselves to the bone but they don't go to bed starving so their growing son can have his best chance. In 1940 life is pretty good. Katsuki's four years old. Mitsuki has a job as a seamstress, and Masaru has an office job. Life is looking up.
December 7th of 1941, Pearl Harbor is bombed. Americans die. Masaru and Mitsuki are scared about the possibilities of war and what it could mean for their little one. But they decide to do their part and work as hard as they can for their new home, because they're Americans, and they love this country and the hope it holds for their son.
February 1942, the Bakugous are detained and put in a Japanese Internment camp in southern California, where they spend the next three years. Katsuki is five years old when they’re forced out of their home, and he remembers the train ride. He remembers his father holding him as they walked. He remembers the cold. He remembers the three coldest winters he ever felt, and he remembers the burning blazing heat of the three hottest summers he ever endured. He remembers the scorching desert of Manzanar. He remembers the stuffy air of the tight quarters. He remembers.
September 1945, The Bakugous finally leave Manzanar. They’re among the last to go. They go home to San Francisco and try to move on. Katsuki is nine years old. His parents are disturbed at how bad anti-japanese sentiment has gotten in the time they were at Manzanar. Mitsuki finds an old magazine in a waiting room with an article on how to tell Japanese people from Chinese. Masaru is spat on and called various racial slurs. They're terrified for their son, and do their best to shield him from it. When Inko Midoriya’s husband is killed only a few blocks away because he was Japanese and his murderer talked about how his brother was killed in action by them, Mitsuki doesn't let her son play outside anymore.
December 1945, Mitsuki realizes she’s pregnant again.
September 19th, 1946, Tsubaki Bakugou is born.
February 27th, 1947, Tsubaki Bakugou dies of whooping cough at four months old, her family lacking access to the vaccine. Katsuki is eleven years old, and is the one to find her body after his mother asked him to check on her.
June 1947, Mitsuki pays closer attention to her remaining child, terrified of losing him too. She gets worried. Mitsuki starts to notice how fond he is of his friends, and how little he seems to care about girls.
1948, She starts to worry about the way he looks at other boys and the movie stars of his favorite pictures. She asks him one night if he likes boys better than girls, and when he says yes she cries and tells him that he has to learn to like girls, and that liking boys is bad and he can't do it anymore. She doesn't let him go to the cinema anymore, and doesn't let him go out at all with his friends unless Izuku is there with him, because she knows Izuku will tell his mom if anything weird happens, and that Inko will tell her. She doesn't tell Masaru.
1949, When Katsuki is 13, Mitsuki and Inko talk, and they end up sending both of their sons to military school. Inko hopes it will help her son to stand up for himself, and Mitsuki hopes it will teach Katsuki discipline and order. It helps Izuku. It tames Katsuki's attitude toward adults, but his treatment of the other kids only gets worse. The only thing he learns there is how to pretend.
1952, Katsuki is 16, he's visiting home. He fights with his mother. They call each other all manner of horrible things. He tells her he never wants to see her again. She tells him thats fine, and to go. Katsuki goes for a walk to clear his head.
He never comes home.
Eijirou
Eijirou is born on October 16th, 1970 in upstate new york. His timeline is shorter than Katsuki’s because I dont know as much about 70s/80s culture in new york that would have affected a young japanese american man, so theres only a few really important events in his life that I know for sure of.
July 28, 1982 - Eijirou is 11 years old and sees Queen live on their Hot Space Tour in NYC, and it blows his fucking mind. It instills in him a love of music, and whenever he needs to psych himself up for something he listens to those songs and remembers that energy.
1984 - He comes out as gay to his parents and is kicked out. He takes a bus to the city and ends up being embraced and taken care of by some members of the punk scene and NYC gay communities.
1985 - The man who took care of Eijirou, Taishiro Toyomitsu, better known by his stage name Fatgum, dies of HIV related complications.
1986 - On his way back to the shitty apartment he shares with his bandmates from a concert they were a part of, Eijirou stops to pee in an alley way or something, and disappears in a flash of light.
When the 4400 appear back on earth in the modern day, many experience small physical changes. For example, Eijirou and Katsuki have red eyes, and Izuku’s hair is slightly green. Todoroki’s hair is half white, and half red.

FLIX FROM THE NET
Bird Box, 2018 (dir. Susanne Bier)
SPOILER WARNING THERE WILL BE SPOILERS DONT READ IF U HAVENT SEEN IT YET AND WANT TO
[TW: SUICIDE, MURDER, VIOLENCE, BLOOD, GORE]
well fuck its been a while!! happy new year y’all hope u had a Fun and Safe time!!! i for one was at a party where we started playing Shrek at exactly 10:39 PM to see if Smash Mouth’s hit song I’m a Believer started playing right at midnight and to my utter disbelief and elation it did!!! move over times square ball drop a new arbitrary way of celebrating the start of a new calendar year is here and it involves a large green monster with a scottish accent who really loves his onions (#me am i right ladies)
WELL ANYWAY heres a fun new series ive been thinking of starting cause ya girl watches a lot of netflix movies and has many opinions about them. i think i’ll do a separate post about the whole Netflix Original Film trend in general and how its changed the film industry at a later date but since i just watched the above movie not too long ago i wanted to get all my thoughts out there right fuckin now!!
netflix is without a doubt the OG king of streaming services, they were really the first to get the ball rolling and then dozens of other companies scrambled to latch onto this money train while it was rolling on the tracks full steam (or should i say.... stream EL;KGHS;EKFSH; please end me) ahead. it started out as a rental subscription service where u could pick out three movies at a time to rent and then they were sent to u in the mail (like blockbuster but now you never have to leave your house ever again to get that sweet sweet rental content). and then the decision was made to actually start online streaming, no physical DVD’s required! ISNT TECHNOLOGY GREAT
well whoooo boy this shit swept the nation, people couldnt get enough of such a convenient and relatively affordable service and netflix started really raking in the dough. and at some point they got rich enough to say “hey fuck it!!! lets make our own movies baby!!!!” and here we are now with Netflix Original Movies and TV Shows, which means a new player has entered the movie game in a very novel and innovative way. why pay money for a movie ticket and leave your house to go to a theater when cool new movies are being released on a subscription service u already own to watch movies you already know and enjoy? and then u can sit butt-ass naked in ur bedroom alone stuffing ur face with cheese puffs like an insatiable cheddar beast and see something new and fun and interesting
ok so. Bird Box. here we have a movie based off of a book (so i guess this also counts as a Book Movies review but I DIGRESS) starring hollywood powerhouse sandra bullock, featuring Supreme Lesbian Overlord Sarah Paulson and Resident Crazy Old Man John Malkovich, directed by a relatively unknown but competent female filmmaker Susanne Bier (who also directed Things We Lost in the Fire in 2007, a moving drama starring Halle Berry). this one definitely has a lot of proimse compared to what netflix has offered so far in terms of their original movies (im gonna get into Dumplin’ at a later date cause jesus christ what a mess) and i went in with pretty high expectations
did it deliver??? well uuhhhh yeah sort of i guess!! we got some pretty strong performances from our leading lady bullock who really does deliver it every time, a few strong supporting roles like newcomer Trevante Rhodes of Moonlight fame (his energy on screen is just so compelling and soothing), not overly obnoxious child actors which is really all u can ask for, and overall a solid story.
now heres where i gotta say that i couldnt help comparing this film to another movie of its kind, directed by the notorious M. Night Shyamalan. y’all remember The Happening? cause i remember The Happening. i remember that it was total shit and that the twist was that it was the fucking plants making everyone kill themselves. the PLANTS. and i also remember mark wahlbergs dumb-ass confused face that he used in every single shot no matter the context, im AMAZED i remember zoe deschanel in this movie cause she may as well have been one of the killer plants with how little she emoted, and i remember mark wahlberg yelling at a fake office ficus and apparently i was supposed to be scared while watching this clusterfuck.
the way that this movie was described to me by friends who had seen it before me was basically that Bird Box is a slightly better The Happening, and no truer words have ever been spoken. we basically have the same premise going on here: unknown force is causing people to off themselves, our lead(s) have to try and find a way to escape this unknown force without even knowing what it really is, and theres some sort of “sanctuary” they gotta try and get to (which is a common plot point in really all apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic films). now whereas The Happening’s rules for this scenario make entirely no fucking sense (how in the fuck are u supposed to be able to out-run WIND???), Bird Box has some rules for dealing with this Unknown Thing that make slightly more sense. when u open ur eyes while outside, the chance of the Thing making u kill urself in some horrific way is extremely high, so wear a blindfold when ur outside and keep all windows covered when ur inside. makes sense! thats something i can believe and get behind which makes me more immersed in the story!
unfortunately like The Happening there are still some little things that kinda dont make much sense and take u out of it. apparently some people when they see this unknown entity dont wanna die, but instead find it absolutely beautiful, which makes them want to make everyone else look at it to see how beautiful it is. and its insinuated that these people are mentally ill or have some sort of psychiatric issue. i get that this adds more stakes to the situation and ups the ante, but it doesnt really sit well with me that once again, mentally ill people are the villains in a horror-type story. and i also dont really understand why theyd then wanna go around and make other people see the thing?? unless the thing has them in a mind-control state or something and is making them do its bidding but that seems kind of a weird thing for an all-powerful evil formless entity to do.
and that leads me to the next issue i have with Bird Box. if ur gonna have an apocalyptic scenario where people do something as serious as kill themselves due to an unknown cause, it almost seems a little cliche and cheesy to have it be some sort of mythical celestial god-like or demon-like entity thats doing the damage. i actually really liked where The Happening was going with its source of all the chaos being something naturally made, like the Earth deploying some sort of self-preservation mechanism or something. the idea of that to me is actually loads more frightening than some invisible boogeyman that u cant look at. and then Shamalamadingdong had to go and make it stupid by saying that it was fucking plants trying to kill people by releasing pheromones or some shit. like why cant we have the best of both of these?? something naturally-occuring that maybe has even happened before in the planets history (maybe it wasnt a meteor that killed off the dinosaurs after all??), that isnt FUCKING PLANTS, and that doesnt do cheesy shit like make ur eyes turn grey and bloodshot and like whisper to u telling u to take ur blindfold off (i swear that happens multiple times it was pretty silly)
thats another thing, this movie’s tone is all over the place. there are some moments where a more light-hearted tone is needed to break up the tension, for sure, but it almost as if the writing and dialogue werent really taking this serious of a story as seriously as they should have. weirdly placed jokes are all over the place, there were some moments where the dialogue made me cringe cause it was so awkward. bullock’s character gets to have some good breakdown moments which help bring the tone to the level of somberness and despair it should be at, but all the other supporting characters dont really get the same space to process whats happening to them, so it kinda comes off like they arent really affected by, say, their wife throwing herself into a burning car right in front of their very eyes.
overall i’d still say this is a worthwhile watch, especially considering its a netflix movie. if you’ve ever wanted to see a not-as-horrible version of The Happening that has some deeper metaphorical stuff going on about motherhood and family and shit than this is for you. the production value is overall pretty solid (though when it comes to cinematography i actually prefer The Happening from an artistic standpoint) and sandra bullock knocks it out of the park. go check it out if this seems like something thats up ur alley!!
ok bye for now hopefully it doesnt take me six months to write another review but we’ll see!! my brain is a mystery and time is an illusion HAPPY 20-BI-TEEN Y’ALL
