I’ve been thinking about Pterano fanfic for 10 years. I haven’t written a word.
But the essential is Dessie finds newly exiled Pterano sitting in HER waiting spot (it’s a tiny little shaded area just outside Skywater Valley’s border with a log and waterfall where she waits for her mother in case she comes). And at first she’s mad because um hey this is MY waiting spot get your own. But she’s like the quivalent size of me holding a bottle of aspirin to him. So that doesn’t last long because what’s she gonna do.
She does end up getting him to come to the herd. In Skywater Valley lives a herd of Farwalkers who mostly stay in the valley until the rainy season drives them from their land until the floods die down. Pterano talks to and learns a lot from the herds leader, a Quetzalcoatlus named Altlas. (He, Dessie, and the Dimorphodon, Deemo, are the only flyers in the valley). It’s this sort of place Pterano starts growing a little more. He tells stories to the children sometimes but he gradually, if meekly, admits they are stories. Like he’s so used to bolstering himself and now he’s waffling between earning praise for false endeavors or admitting it’s nothing more than tales. Dessie hears none of it and thinks he’s kind of the coolest.
There’s nothing really big or exciting until the second act. It’s a lot of people learning about themselves and eachother and what it means to really be a Very Important Creature.
#is like 1/3 brother bear if im honest#she waits for her mother because she was left during the great earthshake#thats the big earthshake at the beginning of the first movie#the skywater herd came together not long after much like the herd travelling to the great valley#just a bunch of scared and griving dinosaurs coming together in a time of uncertainty to find somewhere to call home and safety in numbers#dessie never does find her mom#at a later point in the story she finally admits its a sore point for her and she asks what she did wrong#which is the revelationof a turning point for pterano who says that grownups make mistakes too. sometimes terrible mistakes#im not condoning what he did either he messed up but hes doing what he can#nothing will ever fix it but hes not going to let anything like that happen again
