I have started seeing many small non union regional theaters using AI artwork for their upcoming seasons instead of using the artwork provided by licensing companies or hiring graphic designers/artists to create new artwork to advertise with, which is definitely something we shouldn’t read in to.

She's flirted with it plenty, but Annie committing to an actual trance song - with a six-plus minute mix, no less! - is still a thrill. Her gently ethereal coo is as natural a fit as "Heartbeat" suggested decades(!) ago, and if there's a more perfectly simple, perfectly devastating couplet this year than "The sky is blue/ And it breaks my heart" I haven't heard it. It's so simple it risks bathos - more than any other lyric on our list, this is one where your mileage may vary. I love it, for its unabashed emotionalism and focus. Because if I'm being honest with myself, I'm increasingly finding that the simplest things are the ones that will make me cry, that will break my heart - if I give myself over, if I dedicate myself to experiencing them, if I let myself be open to the moment and the feeling. It's corny but so is so much of life, and I have less and less patience with experiencing things through several layers of irony or distance. Trance is an ideal vessel to carry that message, dance music stripped of its subtlety, form and function channeled into a crescendo of sentimentality.

Too often I ascribe meaning where there is none -- I mean, at least half the time I'm hearing a mondegreen, so the meaning is entirely of my own design -- and I used to feel embarrassed about this because the reality is that most of everything I consume is meaningless and I'm but a highly emotional dalmatian vibing along the non-visible light spectrum. Yet I must again admit that the more I turn "The Sky is Blue" over in my head, laser pulsed beat shot through wide open space and all, the more suggestive it becomes. The phrase itself feels like a substitute for whatever truth you're aggressively repressing and walling off inside of you, whatever essential kernel existence boils down to, every indescribable feeling that sits like a rock at the core of your being -- the sky is blue. So it's true; but the breaking of the heart, it's not necessarily like watching it crumble to dust and disintegrate with the breeze. It could be setting your heart free, it could be letting it exist as a tremble of glowing light without any hard casing around it. Whatever breaking your heart is seems even more ambiguous than the sky being blue, but Annie doesn't sound so sad. She sounds clear-eyed and focused. On to the next and the next one.

I never wanna see any of you bring up JAWS as an example of how fiction affects reality again. Yes yes, people are more afraid of sharks now, but there is only so much influence one movie can have. I think yall are highly underestimating just how much of a bigger a threat climate change and overfishing poses to the global shark population. 100 million sharks are killed every year, and it's not because people watched a scary movie and went berserk. It's so much worse. You think killing a shark purely out of fear is bad? Wait till you learn about shark finning or what's in your cosmetics.
