https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The young adult genre is still booming, providing romance, adventure, and more for teens and adults alike. Here are some of the YA books from March 2021 we’re most looking forward to or are currently consuming…
Top New Young Adult Books March 2021
Sing Me Forgotten by Jessica S. Olson
Type: Novel Publisher: Inkyard Press Release date: March 9
Den of Geek says: It’s a double twist on The Phantom of the Opera: the heroine is the lurker in the opera house, and music includes magic that can distort memory. Whether or not this fanfic-like premise works for you may depend on mileage, but we have a weakness for the nostalgia and Gothic romance of the Phantom.
Publisher’s summary: Isda does not exist. At least not beyond the opulent walls of the opera house. Cast into a well at birth for being one of the magical few who can manipulate memories when people sing, she was saved by Cyril, the opera house’s owner. Since that day, he has given her sanctuary from the murderous world outside. All he asks in return is that she use her power to keep ticket sales high—and that she stay out of sight. For if anyone discovers she survived, Isda and Cyril would pay with their lives.
But Isda breaks Cyril’s cardinal rule when she meets Emeric Rodin, a charming boy who throws her quiet, solitary life out of balance. His voice is unlike any she’s ever heard, but the real shock comes when she finds in his memories hints of a way to finally break free of her gilded prison.
Haunted by this possibility, Isda spends more and more time with Emeric, searching for answers in his music and his past. But the price of freedom is steeper than Isda could ever know. For even as she struggles with her growing feelings for Emeric, she learns that in order to take charge of her own destiny, she must become the monster the world tried to drown in the first place. Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley
Type: Novel Publisher: Henry Holt and Co. Release date: March 16 Den of Geek says: A YA mystery from an author from the Ojibwe community of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Firekeeper’s Daughter promises a diverse, unique tale. And you know what they say, but we do really love that cover.
Publisher’s summary: Eighteen-year-old Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in, both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. She dreams of a fresh start at college, but when family tragedy strikes, Daunis puts her future on hold to look after her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother Levi’s hockey team.
Yet even as Daunis falls for Jamie, she senses the dashing hockey star is hiding something. Everything comes to light when Daunis witnesses a shocking murder, thrusting her into an FBI investigation of a lethal new drug.
Reluctantly, Daunis agrees to go undercover, drawing on her knowledge of chemistry and Ojibwe traditional medicine to track down the source. But the search for truth is more complicated than Daunis imagined, exposing secrets and old scars. At the same time, she grows concerned with an investigation that seems more focused on punishing the offenders than protecting the victims.
Now, as the deceptions―and deaths―keep growing, Daunis must learn what it means to be a strong Anishinaabe kwe (Ojibwe woman) and how far she’ll go for her community, even if it tears apart the only world she’s ever known.

Den of Geek says: Of all the YA fantasy releases this month, this one seems like one of the most jam-packed with magic. Dragonriders add high-flying adventure to dense high fantasy politics in this sequel.
Publisher’s summary: After fleeing the revolution and settling into the craggy cliffs of New Pythos, the dragonlords are eager to punish their usurpers and reclaim their city. Their first order of business was destroying the Callipolan food supply. Now they’re coming for the dragonriders.
Annie is Callipolis’s new Firstrider, charged with leading the war against New Pythos. But with unrest at home, enforcing the government’s rationing program risks turning her into public enemy number one.
Lee struggles to find his place after killing kin for a leader who betrayed him. He can support Annie and the other Guardians . . . or join the rebels who look to topple the new regime.
Griff, a lowborn dragonrider who serves New Pythos, knows he has no future. And now that Julia Stormscourge is no longer there to protect him, he is called on to sacrifice everything for the lords that oppress his people–or to forge a new path with the Callipolan Firstrider seeking his help.
With famine tearing Callipolis apart and the Pythians determined to take back what they lost, it will be up to Annie, Lee, and Griff to decide who–and what–to fight for.

The Electric Kingdom by David Arnold
Type: Novel Publisher: Viking Books for Young Readers Release date: Feb. 9 Den of Geek says: A Station Eleven reference goes a long way. Among the survivors are eighteen-year-old Nico and her dog, on a voyage devised by Nico’s father to find a mythical portal; a young artist named Kit, raised in an old abandoned cinema; and the enigmatic Deliverer, who lives Life after Life in an attempt to put the world back together. The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna
Type: Novel Publisher: Delacorte Press Release date: Feb. 9 Den of Geek says: It’s hard to resist a good call to adventure or chosen warrior, and Deka’s story will bring that particular fantasy for Black girls and everyone else. Den of Geek says: Theres something quintessentially charming about summer camp stories, where kids trade their day-to-day for the wilderness. But this protagonist can’t escape everything at camp, and she’ll need the help of her sister to figure out the story of more than one family.
Publisher’s Summary: When Abby signs up for a DNA service, it’s mainly to give her friend and secret love interest, Leo, a nudge. After all, she knows who she is already: Avid photographer. “Nothing grows in my back yard” (Original short horror story)
Nothing ever grows in my back yard. Every time I try to plant something, even though I care for it meticulously, it soon withers and dies. No matter what plant, flower, or tree, they all die. Even the grass dies, sickly yellow patches interspersed with thick weeds covering the entirety of the yard. The stress of it all was beginning to get to me after so long. I loved to garden. It was one of my favorite past times, and helped me deal with the horrendous anxiety of living alone. But my yard was starting to make me think I just did not have the green thumb necessary to do it. I considered giving up on it so many times, but something always brought me back and had me trying again.
Thats how I found myself yanking the weeds that had grown back for the umpteenth time every Sunday afternoon, instead of relaxing like everyone else. There was one weed in particular that bothered me to no end. It looked like a small tree, surrounded by tall crabgrass. The tree-like weed had a waxy, whiteish stem. The branches grew in strange, sharp angles, with small, red leaves sprouting from the ends.
It usually grew up to my shoulders before I had a chance to yank it out. But no matter how many times I pulled it, it always grew back. Finally, after many months of battle, it had grown too big for me to pull out. Its trunk thickened to a point I couldn’t fit my hands around it. The thin, angular branches stretched higher than my roof. After that I reluctantly gave up and let it be. The rest of the yard was more concerning anyway.
I thought perhaps my soil was bad, so I started doing research on how to restore it. For an entire summer, I worked to bring my yard back to life. And it seemed to be working; the new grass was growing in, the trees and rose bushes I planted were taking root. Even the tree weed looked to be finally dying, its tall branches now drooped down, and the stark white of the trunk had turned a sickly grey. I praised my lucky stars. Though of course, this wonderful luck lasted all of two months.
It was on a brisk, Fall afternoon. After coming home from a very long work day, I went to check the progress of my yard. As soon as I rounded the hall corner and the double sliding glass doors came into view, I froze. I was rooted to the spot, my mouth hanging agape as I stared with wide eyed horror at my yard. Everything was dead. My roses, shriveled and brown, littered the ground around the bush, along with all its leaves. Only dead sticks remained, reaching up to the sky in a desperate, yet futile attempt to live.
The grass had turned a sick yellow color, crinkled and dry, devoid of life. The young trees I had planted were completely uprooted, as if a hurricane had hit them and pulled them from the earth. Each one lay on their sides, roots flailing uselessly in the breeze next to small craters in the ground where they had once been standing. Shock and disbelief had my blood running cold, then hot. How had this happened in less than a day? It was impossible. Unless someone poisoned all of it, maybe. Just as my mind began racing over who the culprit could be, I spotted something stark white in my periphery.
I shot my gaze over to the tree weed. It had doubled, maybe tripled in size. It stood at least twenty feet high now. Its white trunk probably stretched the width of three people standing side by side. Long, shark branches shot out everywhere. Thick, dark maroon leaves hung off the tips. Along the tree ran thousands of small red and purple veins that looked eerily like a human circulatory system. I glanced down to see the roots had grown so large they breached the surface of the soil halfway across the yard.
Unable to comprehend what I was seeing, and not able to deal with the stress anymore, I went back inside, slamming the door shut behind me with a distressed growl. Later that night I searched online for any possible answer, finding none. I thought of calling a professional out. Even though it might be costly, maybe they could shed some light on the situation. I toyed with that idea for the rest of the night, but frankly, I was too tired to do anything about it. I was just done with my yard. I had been working so hard to fix it for so long, I just felt like giving up at that point.
The following day I cupped my hand over the side of my face, blocking the yard from view as I walked past the sliding glass doors to get breakfast. I was so upset that I couldn’t even handle seeing it in my periphery. In the middle of my delicious soggy cereal meal, a knock sounded at my door. The knock sounded two more times in quick succession on my way to get it. “I’m coming!” I shouted. Swinging the door open a little rougher than I intended, I glared at my neighbor, Leslie, standing there, fist raised for yet another knock.
She smiled wanly and lowered her hand. “Hi, sorry to bother you. I know its early...But do you know where Hunter is?” Her voice contained thinly veiled panic. Hunter was Leslie’s ten year old son. Her very annoying ten year old son. He, like any normal child, always played in their front yard with his friends. They always yelled so loudly I could hear them from my bedroom. One time the kid even put a hockey puck through my window. I constantly had to remind myself of the fact he was only a kid when my temper flared at him.
“No, I’m sorry, I haven’t seen him. Is everything alright?” Concern replaced my earlier irritation. Dark circles ringed her eyes. Her hair was sat in a tangled mat on her head. She looked like hell. Her kid was missing? I began mentally preparing to get ready to join a search. “He went out to play with his new baseball gear yesterday evening and didn’t come back. I called him in for dinner and he didn’t answer. I searched the whole neighborhood and I couldn’t find him. I don’t know what to d-do!” Tears began flowing down her face as she spoke, her arms gesturing wildly as her panic rose closer to the surface.
I glanced behind her to see her husband knocking on the doors of the other neighbor’s houses. “I came home from work at six yesterday and I didn’t see anything. Have you called the police?” She sniffled and wiped at her eyes. “Yes, they’re going around searching too. If in 24 hours we still can’t find him, they’ll put out a missing person’s report.” She broke out into sobs then. “Alright, give me ten minutes. I’ll help.” I said, placing my hands on her shoulders in a vain attempt to calm her. She thanked me through bleary eyes before I shut the door and quickly threw on my clothes.
The search went on all day and for part of the night. We recruited quite a few other concerned neighbors on the search as well. People were driving slowly down the streets, calling Hunter’s name out of their car windows. We canvased the nearby parks while the police searched inside the schools. Hunter was nowhere to be found.
Days, then months passed, and there was still no sign of the boy. Hunter’s photo haunted me from every street post. The police investigation was going nowhere. And after a while, the police stopped looking for a living child, and began searching for a body. I spent my days off consoling Leslie and helping in the search. I was exhausted, but if there was a chance to find Hunter alive, I wasn’t going to give up. He was just a child. Even though my own hope that they would find the kid alive had dwindled over the past month, I would still help. One morning, as I trudged to the kitchen in a daze, sleep deprivation causing me to drag my feet, a flash of white caught my eye through my sliding glass doors.
Through all that had happened, I had completely forgotten about my dead yard. I hesitated to look, fearing the sight might upset me again. I knew I couldn’t avoid it forever though, so I turned with a sigh to gaze upon my lifeless yard. It was the same as it had been months ago, everything shriveled and dead, brown, yellow and a stark white tree dominating the space. It did not upset me as much this time though.
Perhaps it was because I had bigger problems now, more upsetting problems. I studied my yard for a few long moments. I don’t know what drove me, but for some reason I felt compelled to go outside. I slipped my feet into my sandals and slid the door open. The deadened grass crunched beneath my feet. My blood turned to ice, dread pooling in my gut as I approached the sickly tree weed.
The silence of the yard was almost like a vacuum, sucking in sound as it was made. I came to a stop a few feet in front of the tree. The red and purple veins had thickened noticeably. They seemed to pulse and quiver up close. All the hair on my body stood on end as I looked up to study the branches that reached high into the sky. I don’t know how I missed it that first day. It stood out so clearly now. I gasped in panicked breaths as my eyes locked on something high up in the tree, surrounded by large, deep maroon leaves. My eyes burned, my chest tightened. Because there, tangled in the high branches, was a baseball.

May I request some imagines of Chuuya, Atsushi, and Tanizaki comfort their scared and sad fem s/o? I have had a terrible day and nee cheering up. Thank you
Oh gosh, I’m sorry that you’re not having a good day. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy this and make you smile at the end :)
Nakahara Chuuya
“Hey, do you think she’s doing okay?” The sudden question snapped out of Chuuya’s work mode. He set some papers down while giving the golden demon wielder a quizzical look. “What do you mean doing okay? Is there something wrong with her?” After a few minutes of explaining, it appears to be Chuuya’s significant other hasn’t been feeling well lately. Her expressions has been sullen and her sighs has become heavy. Clearly, she doesn’t feel well. “Haven’t you noticed?” Chuuya shook his head at Kouyou’s question. She shakes her head in disappointment. “You’re a horrible boyfriend--” “--I am not!”Chuuya quickly interjects with an angry response. To the Port Mafia gentleman’s dismay, it’s true that he hasn’t noticed his lover’s blue state, but it’s all because of his busy work that he hasn’t been properly noticing as a good boyfriend should. Gradually, a tinge of guilt creeps inside him. “I’m leaving. Please finish my work.” With that, Chuuya swiftly left the office and began heading towards to his motorcycle. Before he drove off to his destination, he sent a quick text to his partner, telling her to meet him outside of their apartment in ten minutes. Although, it only took five minutes for Chuuya to arrive at their place. When his girlfriend came down from the complex, Chuuya gestures to get behind him on the motorcycle while giving her a smirk that showed he has a special surprise for her. Moments later, Chuuya and his partner arrived at what seemed to be an arcade. “Did you bring me to an arcade?” she asks him. “Yeah, what else would it be? Come on!” Chuuya grabs her soft hand and pulls her into the land of games. Several hours has passed since their arrival, and the couple played numerous street-fighter matches, skeeballs, air hockey, and water gun race. It was only until the two got in to a picture booth that they got to unwind a bit. “Let’s take picture to commemorate this day.” About four shots were taken and each shot had Chuuya giving peace signs and kisses on his significant other’s cheeks. When they got out of the booth, she turned to Chuuya, “hey, why did you suddenly bring me out to the arcade? Didn’t you have work today?” Chuuya kinda fidgets before answering her question. “Well, I heard that, I mean, I’ve noticed that you’ve been down in the dumps so I thought maybe we could have fun together...” He slightly blushes at the cheesiness of which he said. “You did have fun, right?” His partner couldn’t help but to giggle. She did have fun and if anything, it’s as if all her stress and anxiousness has disappeared thanks to her considerate boyfriend. “I sure did. Thank you, Chuuya.” With that, she gives a kiss against Chuuya’s lips, and they both leave with bright smiles on their faces.
Nakajima Atsushi
For once in a long time, Atsushi and his girlfriend got to go out alone together. He didn’t want to pressure her in taking her somewhere extravagant so they were at the Uzumaki cafe where they were both comfortable. Drinking warm coffee, Atsushi begins to talk about his recent moments with Dazai and simply complaining how much he’s been lazy at work. He keeps talking and ranting until he noticed his partner gazing at the window while halfheartedly responding okays through the conversation. Atsushi studies her sullen expression. It’s an expression he knows all too well, and he could immediately tell that there was something wrong. The were-tiger takes a moment before carefully forming his words, “are you okay?”. His question brought her back to his attention and with a simple shrug and a thin smile, they only nodded. Atsushi could tell that his partner didn’t want to talk about it and for him, it was okay because he understands. But still, it doesn’t mitigate the heavy guilt and sadness he feels while he sees his beloved one in gloom. He needed to do something---anything that could at least cheer her up even if it’s the slightest. At this moment, Atsushi gazes out the window and sees a familiar scene. It gave him a wonderful idea that could cheer his lover up. He checks the time, 9:00PM--- perfect. Atsushi quickly pays the coffee bill and takes his significant other outside. Her eyes widen at the suddenness and she asks him where he is taking her. He said nothing but with a smile, “it’s a secret.” Not too long, Atsushi brings his girlfriend to what looks like a tall abandoned building. In truth, they felt a little scared and confused in coming to a place like this. She asks Atsushi once again, “where are we?” He looks at her with a playful grin and carries her bridal style. Before she could process anything, Atsushi activates his Beast Beneath the Moonlight and his tiger-legs carried him over the roof of the tall building. The girl slowly opens her eyes and meets the beautiful night scenery before her. All the lights of Yokohama glowed like dazzling fireflies and stars beamed like it was the sun itself. The cool breeze felt like a misty touch and Atsushi’s warmth filled her chest with fuzziness. She felt her expression shifting from sullenness to happiness. “Finally, a smile.” Atsushi’s voice made her look at him with glossy eyes and slight tears. She could see her own reflection in his grey eyes. HIs kind gaze made her swell with emotions. She understood that he was trying to cheer her up with this beautiful scenery. Atsushi pulls her face closer to his and with that, he gave a quick kiss on the crown of her head, reassuring her that he is here with her no matter the sadness and gloominess she feels.
Tanizaki Junichirou
When Tanizaki was about to head on home after a long day at work, Naomi clings onto her brother, begging him to go late night karaoke with her. “Come on! We haven’t had fun in so long. Let’s go, brother!” Tired as he was, he tries to reject Naomi’s invitation and simply go home to get some shut-eye, but that all changed when Tanizaki’s significant other came out of the agency. Her stressed and moody expression caught his eye. Frankly speaking, work hasn’t been easy as of lately, but it seemed like there was something more happening especially with Tanizaki’s lover behind that cloudy face. Naomi was right. It’s been so long since they had any fun, and this is the only chance where they can have a good time before another detective job pops up. Tanizaki made up his mind, “you know what, Naomi? Let’s go to karaoke but we have to invite my girlfriend too.” Although a little reluctant, Naomi agreed. After thirty minutes, the trio gets into a karaoke room. Tanizaki invited his partner over to sing with his sister. So far, their sad expression is still on their face and for Tanizaki, his hopes of cheering her up runs on a thin line. “Hey, I’m sorry for inviting you over when you’re so tired,” Tanizaki tries to initiate a conversation as Naomi sings one of her favorite pop songs. “It’s alright. It’s nice to go out like this sometimes so...” Tanizaki frowns at her disinterest and sullen tone. There must be something going on but he has no courage to ask. After Naomi finishes about five songs, she elatedly asks Tanizaki’s significant other if there’s anything she would like to sing. Of course, with the cloudy mood hanging above their heads, Tanizaki quickly interjects that he’ll sing something instead. Naomi blinks in utter surprise and tries to stop her brother, but it was already too late when Tanizaki began to sing September by Earth, Wind & Fire. When the music cued, Tanizaki’s girlfriend’s eyes widened at the horrible sound. She couldn’t believe her ears. Tanizaki was singing with horrible intonation. He had zero sense of pitch, and his robotic movements matched with the terrible singing voice. His eyes began to swirl due to nervousness, sweat, and exhaustion. As this kept going, Tanizaki’s girlfriend couldn’t help but to boisterously laugh at the funny sight. She didn’t expect him to have a god-awful talent at singing. It was absolutely silly, and she smiled at his nerve-wrecking state. “I tried to stop him!” Naomi covers her ears in distress. When the song finally finished, Tanizaki witnesses his girlfriend’s familiar laughter and smile. He puts away the mic while continuing to look at her happy expression. Guess the late night karaoke was worth it.

sidney crosby // can’t take my eyes off of you
who: Sidney x Reader
warnings: cuteness overload
premise: your date goes a little different than usual
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You’re face has been pulled into a tight grin ever since your phone buzzed about 20 minutes ago.
rink in 30? :)
To most, this text wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. But, then again, most people aren’t dating Sidney Crosby. Inviting you to his ice was like inviting you into his heart. Of course this wasn’t your first invite. After 6 years of dating you’ve been asked to go to the rink on quite a few occasions. Most of the time it was his trainer calling to ask you to pick him up after he practiced just a little too hard. But once or twice he had asked you to come himself, just like today, and had playfully shown you the ropes as you two had skated alone together under the bright, fluorescent lights.
Those dates, the ones were you two would laugh and play like no one was watching, had always been your favorite. You got to see him smile just a little more than usual and it was always perfect getting to see Sidney at home in his element. Sure you loved the fancy dinners and weekend getaways but you wouldn’t trade these nights for anything.
When you walked into the rink, the ice was completely empty, as you expected. You figured Sidney had just gone to the bathroom or something so you walked over to the player’s box to lace up your skates. Once finished, you skated onto the ice, tracing out the trials that your boyfriend had left moments before as your wrapped around the net and back to center ice, looking around for a familiar smile.
It was most definitely weird now. Sidney never stays off of the ice too long so something had to be up. You skated towards the entrance to the locker room and peaked your head down the long hall, not daring to go down and see if he was in there. That was sacred ground.
“Sid?”
No response. You quickly turned around to skate back towards the player’s box to see if he maybe was waiting for you out front when a noise stopped you in your tracks. The loud speaker had turned on and a familiar rhythm was coursing through the ice. You whipped around just as a tall figure skated towards you. Without his helmet, it was clear that it was Geno, your boyfriend’s best friend and your favorite Russian.
Pulling a hand from behind his back with a devilish smile, he revealed a microphone. You were extremely confused but, out of nowhere, Geno started singing.
“Your just too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you,
You’d be like heaven to touch,
I want to hold you so much,
At long last love has arrived,
And I thank God your alive,
Your just too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you”
His scruffy accent makes you giggle but before you can even question what is happening, Flower comes in, smiling as he too starts belting.
“Pardon the way that I stare,
There’s nothing else to compare,
The sight of you leaves me weak,
There are no words left to speak,
So if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it’s real,
Your just too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you”
You, very confused now, start to say something to both of them, but, as the sound leaves your lips, you are cut off by the rest of the team skating onto the ice, one by one lining up the entrance to the locker room as Geno and Flower block your vision to the entrance. All the boys are humming the pre chorus together, their deep voices actually coming together into a sort of harmony as your bring yourself to center ice. You strain your neck to see if Sidney is amongst them but you can’t pick him out between the collection of black and gold.
Suddenly, Flower and Geno move out of the way as Sid skates out, a mic in one hand and a bouquet of peonies in the other. Staring right into your eyes, he brings the mic up to his rosy lips and begins the final stretch of the song loudly and passionately.
“I love you, baby,
And if it’s quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm the lonely nights,
I love you, baby
Trust in me when I say
Oh pretty baby
Don’t leave me now I pray,
Oh pretty baby,
Now that I found you stay,
And let me love you, baby
Let me love you”
He finished almost in a whisper, stopping right before you so that you can here him pant through a toothy smile, clearly proud of himself. Your cheeks are flushed and eyes are bright. Sometimes, when he really let his guard down, Sidney would sing in the shower, just loud enough so you could hear him with your ear pressed to the door. Never in a million years would you have imagined him to sing to you, let alone in front of his team. Nothing could wipe the smile off of your face.
In another second, Sidney was on one knee in front of you, dropping the mic at his side and holding the flowers up for you to grab. He fumbled through his waist band a bit before pulling out a small velvet box, so small in his big hands.
When you finally pulled your eyes away from his fingers to his chocolate eyes, you saw tears form in the corners. Your super star olympian was so vulnerable at this moment, kneeling in front of you, asking for forever.
“ (Y/N) (Y/M/N) (Y/L/N), all my life, I wanted to be a hockey star. I wanted to be someone’s hero. I wanted people to watch me and cry. I wanted to kiss the silver of the Stanley Cup with my brothers. And I’ve gotten all that. But it has shown me that all I really want is you. I want to be your hero. Most importantly, I want to be your husband. So (Y/N), will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?
Your too shocked for words. Sidney Crosby, the love of your life, had just proposed. You had a feeling he would ask eventually but not so soon and not like this. You felt tears stain your cheeks as you watched his face. He had poured his heart and soul into you with those words.
You were stuck in your day dreams when Geno’s voice cut through your thoughts.
“(Y/N), is it yes?”
You suddenly feel terribly. You were so shocked you had forgotten to answer. You shake your head yes profusely and pull Sidney up, wrapping your hand around his head and into his dark hair so that his lips meet yours in a messy encounter, trying to get as close to each other as possible and show him a little piece of your forever.
“Wait” Sidney says, pulling back.
Your begin to frown until you see that he is reaching to open the box and you chuckle a bit.
“I’m really not too great on this whole engaged thing yet, am I?” You ask playfully, watching as he pulls out a beautiful gold band with small diamonds splattered throughout. It’s absolutely beautiful.
“Sid...You really shouldn’t have” you whisper as he slides the ring on your finger.
“It’s beautiful, just like you. You shouldn’t have anything less”
You are so happy that you pull him in for another kiss, letting him pick you up and twirl you around on the ice. You lose yourself in his lips, the smell of his cologne and the feeling of stubble that tickles your chin. You certainly could get used to this. Your fiancé. You slowly reach your hand down to playfully grab Sid’s ass when you hear someone, probably Kessel, whistle.
You instantly whip your head up in embarrassment, having completely forgot the guys were still there when you hear Sid laugh next to you as he sees the look on your face.
As you turn to face them, they all come around you and their captain, pulling you in to a tight, sweaty group hug and cheering for you two, the energy of the moment infiltrating every smile and laugh. As Kris Letang whispers something dirty to Sid earning a smack, you know that you won’t ever forget the guys are there again. You were officially family. And honestly? You wouldn’t have it any other way.

Power of Five is a full-length reverse-harem fantasy novel. READ POWER OF FIVE FOR FREE JANUARY 4TH-8TH!!!! Excerpt from LERA OF LUNOS: “There was rather little incentive to follow the rules at that point,” Tye said simply. “And smuggling pays well.” He swallowed painfully, unable to look at her for this part, to see in her eyes the moment she realized he’d been right to push her away. “Now do you see why I thought you should go with Shade? If it were up to me, Lilac Girl, I would never let you out of my sight for the rest of my life. But it isn’t up to me, especially now that you know the full truth. You deserve better, Lera. You deserve the world.” Silence trailed at the heels of Tye’s words, the cave around them a capsule of secrets. Each memory shoving itself insistently from its hiding place in the depths of Tye’s mind drove another needle into his soul. Fingers tightening on the rough stone, Tye inhaled the damp, mossy air and awaited judgment. Several heartbeats passed before Lera rose to her knees, her cool hands gripping Tye’s face. Tipping it to look so deeply into his eyes that Tye felt his soul bared beneath her intense chocolate gaze. Stars, if the girl could make him feel so vulnerable with one look, what could she do with a word? A step? Fear crackled along his veins, but when he tried to pull back, to escape for a bit of air, Lera would not let him. “I see you, Tye.” Her words rang gently through the cave, stopping Tye’s heart. “And I want you. Not for play. I want you for you, forever.” Tye’s blood stirred, waking him to Lera’s words. She wanted him. She wanted him. The way he’d always longed for her but had been so certain she would never feel in return. He stared into her eyes, hardly daring to believe it. “And I want forever to start now, Tye,” she said quietly.
