TAU (1/2)
Summary: Steve Rogers traps you inside his mansion. Your only means of escape? The naïve A.I., Bucky, that is designed to kill you if you ever step out of line.
Pairings: Dark!CEO!Steve x reader, A.I!Bucky x reader, Bucky x reader
This is part of a series of works (not interconnected). I highly suggest you read the description of the series master list to better understand the premise of this story.
Warnings: swearing, kidnapping, mention of sedative, technical Lima syndrome, psychological abuse, violence, blood, character deaths, injuries, mention of depression, suicide & poverty
The chair was on the brink of collapsing, yet Martha folded her arms and leaned back into it anyway. You internally grimaced, waiting for her to fall flat on her ass or give you the bad news. It had to be bad news. You had done this enough times to know that she periodically bounced her right leg only when there was bad news. These days, that was often.
You huffed once, loud enough for her to hear, hoping to hint that you were hanging by the threads of your patience. She took the hint, finally throwing open the drawer in front of you with excessive force. Pens rolled and a notebook slid towards her amid the force. Again, another piece of furniture that was ready to give in. For someone as stingy as her, you aren’t surprised that it hasn’t been replaced - just wondering why she’s treating it like it won’t disintegrate any second now.
Martha’s plump fingers slapped a couple of bills onto the table, her seedy eyes challenging you to pluck them from under her hand. You wrestled the bills out of from under her palm and diligently counted them, only to shake your head defeatedly.
“That’s it?” you snarled.
“Steal better shit next time,” she replied, shrugging.
You slowly sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose, refusing to open your eyes and face her.
“I really need the money.”
When you open your eyes again, it’s because you hear the roll of her weathered chair. Now standing full height, the middle-aged woman shook her head softly, a hint of a smirk playing out on her lips.
“Like I said; steal better shit.” She turned to leave before facing you again. “You could always come and work with our girls.”
She glanced through the door that was cracked open, eyes resting on the table situated in the corner of the adjacent room. Around it, a group of girls set down cards while pushing poker chips around.
“Sell my body? I’d rather die,” you scoffed.
“Suit yourself. Now, get out.”
“Was planning to.” You flipped her the bird, knowing that she was watching you leave.
“Real classy,” she called after you. “You gotta come back here for your next week’s dinner, you whore!”
“That’s all you,” you smiled at her before slamming the door closed on your way out. Oh, the satisfaction of pissing someone off; unparalleled.
Placing your measly wage into a makeshift purse, you made your way back home. You hugged your frame tightly, keeping your head down and pacing through the dilapidated neighbourhood.
Once upon a time, when you were new to the shadier areas of town, you affirmed to yourself every day that this situation was temporary. The hope for a better job, better apartment and better tomorrow kept you going for a long time. Deep down though, you knew it wasn’t temporary, and now you were being proven right every day. What was keeping you going these days? Multiple times, you delayed the contemplation of that question, knowing that if you thought about it… well, it’s better to not go there.
You were careful to double-check the lock on your door and windows when you stepped into the cramped shower. Today, you thanked God for hot water, even though you were sure he didn’t exist. Mind empty like a brand new chalkboard, you shuffled around your one-room housing and put together something edible to appease the churning stomach.
Your ear perked up at what sounded like the creaking of the fourth floorboard from your bed. You locked the door. You were sure of it.
Still, you peeked over the short dividing wall that hid the view of your bed from the kitchen. Nothing. You shook your head at your paranoia and turned back to get to the less-than-appetizing meal waiting for you.
Steve jammed the needle into your neck, expecting you to fall back into his arms. Instead, your forehead hits the edge of your counter and you slump onto the floor. Your eyes shutting down and head throbbing, you reach out to feel your attacker and touch Steve with saucy fingers. He groans in annoyance as he picks up your whimpering form.
Thump, thump, thump.
The nightclubs you frequent were full of snobby, rich kids who didn’t know the value of wealth. You stole to survive. They could survive without their wristwatch for one night.
Thump, thump, thump.
Music turned the speakers inside out, deafening those closest to it, but the youth are resilient to damage in any form. For you, though, it was too loud; too much. It wasn’t uncommon of you to walk away from the scene with a pounding head.
Thump, thump, thump.
The inside of your head resembled the thumping of club speakers. Jaw slack and eyes foggy, you tried to rub your temples. But your arms wouldn’t move.
Sitting up the best you could, you looked down at your hands to see them bound by zip ties, sitting on your lap. It was joke-worthy how your captor thought they could bind you with zip ties, of all things. He would have to do better than this.
You tugged on the end of the tie using teeth and tightened it some more before huddling your knees up to your chest. Bringing your hands down as hard as you can against your kneecap, you awaited the snapping sound of the zip tie. Nothing came. You look at your hands again, realizing that they were still bound.
“Don’t do that,” a voice piped up from the dark corner of the room. Startled, you look to the source of the voice but no light fell in that direction. For the first time, you took in your surroundings: half of the room was divided by a set of bars. The other side had large machinery with wires running towards the jail section. As you trailed your eyes across the wires, you noticed a closed door.
At least you knew it was possible to escape now.
Quickly turning to the place the voice came from, you scooted backwards some more and anticipated the arrival of your captor.
A woman crawled forward slowly with bounded legs and arms like yours.
Seeing that it was just another prisoner, you tightened the strap of your zip tie again and tried breaking it one more time. It snapped. Rubbing your wrists where they were bound, you got straight to undoing the bind on your legs. Beside you, the girl moved closer and repeatedly begged you not to free yourself.
“Shut up, Brit,” you mumbled, referring to her accent.
The bind on your legs gave away and you stood up and stretched. Tentatively stalking around the cell, you noticed the toilet and sink. Why would he have those amenities in here if you were tied up anyway? When you went to touch the bars separating the room, the girl cried out again.
“Stop! Don’t!”
You rolled your eyes and touched it anyway. Electricity surged through you and you yelped, pulling back immediately.
“Could’ve told me it was an electric gate,” you snapped.
“Don’t try to escape.”
You looked at her incredulously. “And sit here like ducks, waiting for him to kill us?”
“Someone will find us!” she pleaded.
“Look at me! Look at you! No one is looking for us. The police won’t blink twice if people like us are gone. And he knows that.” You eyed the door that was inside your cell and looked to the other one outside the bars.
“Do you want me to remove your binds or not?”
The girl sheepishly looked down before sticking her arms out for you.
“My name is Peggy,” she offered as she stood up. She held your arm for support when blood rushed to her head. You shot her a withering look in response and she took her hand off.
“I don’t think we can leave. He can probably hurt us with these implants.” Peggy pulled her hair to one side and showed you the nape of her neck. A glowing red triangle shone from under her skin.
Your eyes widened, immediately reached for the back of your head. You felt around and touched the area that stung a little when you touched it. You compulsively hissed, realizing that your implant was fresh and the skin around it had not healed yet.
“Has he done anything to you using the implant?” you held and shook Peggy’s shoulders while you questioned.
“No, no, but he said it collects brain data and that it was connected to my spinal column, so I shouldn’t try anything.”
“He spoke to you?”
“Once. It’s Steve Rogers, the inventor guy on the cover of all the Forbes magazines.”
“Brain data,” you silently repeated as you look to the other side of the cell again.
“I have an idea. Rip your clothes like this,” you demonstrated.
Using the rags ripped off from both of your prisoner uniforms, the pair of you created a long rope-like contraption with a loop on the end. You stuck your hand through the gaps in the cell and tried to fling the loop to a nook in the machinery. Failing hurt, your arm accidentally brushing against the metal once or twice before the loop finally caught onto a crevice.
“That’s the wrong part,” your fellow inmate breathed.
“Yeah, but that’ll work too.” You pulled as hard as you could and a section of the machine broke off, sparks flying from the source. It crackled and caught on fire.
Peggy was pulling the cell door open, grunting as she tried her best. It gave way and you both looked at each other briefly before dashing out of the room. The jail room went up in flames behind you. Peggy looked over her shoulder, but you yanked her arm, signalling her to keep running.
You flew up stairs and through doors, finally making your way into a clearing. Peggy rushed to what seemed to be the entrance door and frantically banged on it.
“HELP!”
“That’s not gonna work!” you rushed to the door and inspected the lock. On the right side, there was a screen that displayed a handprint.
Do not try to escape. Only Steven can leave the premises.
“What?” you whispered. The new voice was coming from all around you, seemingly through fixtures in the ceiling and walls, but you couldn’t be sure. The situation was tense and you were scared the whole house was going to burn down.
Before you could catch her, Peggy planted her hand on the screen which scanned and turned red. Suddenly, all the lights emanated red, accompanying a booming alarm that blared through the house.
In the distance, what you assumed was a statuesque décor piece, came to life. It reminded you of the spiders from the Maze Runner. A motorized killing machine. It stalked towards Peggy and you with pincers appearing from its side.
Screaming, Peggy ran. So did you, but you weren’t sure if you were screaming. You couldn’t hear through the noise your friend was making on top of the deafening alarm.
The spider machine stuck out its knife-like hands, trying to stab you. As you ran into another room, you frantically searched for an exit. Right now, your priority was to survive this thing.
You pulled open a cupboard in what appeared to be the study and instructed Peggy to climb in. The monster was coming. There wasn’t much time to hide.
You shut the closet door and hid behind a lounging chair in the corner.
The machine came in and scanned the room, looking for your heat signatures. It could see Peggy.
The cupboard door flung open and Peggy shrieked, crawling out of it in attempts to move out of the line of attack. She took 4 steps on her knees and looked straight into your eyes.
“HELP ME-”
You screamed when she was dragged back towards the machine. You couldn’t save her anymore. You mobilized and ran back to the living room area, not even turning back to address blood that splattered across your back. It wasn’t in your best interest to find out how she was killed.
“Aries!”
Frozen in fear, you look to your right to see the entrance door open. There stood your captor, staring at the machine that was now hovering over you.
“Stop,” he muttered and set down his briefcase.
Aries retracted its pincers, making its way back to the little pedestal it was perched on before. It powered down just as the CEO stepped into the house and glared at you.
For a split second, the doors were open, and you considered tackling past him.
“Don’t even think about it.”
You collapsed onto the floor where you were already lying down. Getting out was going to be a lot harder than you anticipated.
Your hands were bound again, but this time, behind you. You were seated on a pedestal like the one Aries was on, except this one had an ugly glass décor piece that extended to the ceiling. You tugged on the bonds, hoping for some leeway, but Rogers had learned his lesson.
You shook your head side to side, trying to get pieces of hair and blood off your face. Eventually, you had to give up, slumping into the post your arms were tied to.
“You cost me 7 million dollars worth of tech,” Steve’s voice sounded from another room.
“If you let me go, I swear on my life I won’t tell anyone. They won’t believe me anyway.”
He appeared in front of you and placed both hands on either side of your thighs.
“Things will work out for you, if you just… shut up.”
You exhaled and turned your face to the right, hoping he’d stop invading your personal space.
“Just… please, untie me.”
He stood back and considered your request before rounding the side of the pedestal and untying you.
“Bucky?”
Yes, Steve.
“Activate Aries if she moves a single inch from her spot.” He eyed you at the end of his command and sauntered away to god-knows-where.
You hoped it wouldn’t be pushing your luck to stand up and stretch, so you did. You mentally considered the various stretches you did as a child, during gymnastics. It had been years since you recalled those, so you did them to the best of your ability. It’s funny how life works. One day you were among a row of girls, learning how to do a cartwheel and before you know it, you’re in a psycho’s mansion as a lab experiment.
About 30 feet away from this pedestal was Aries.
Cautiously, you took a few steps away from your place. No reaction from Aries. That meant ‘Bucky’ and Aries weren’t the same thing. You could also deduce from Steve’s command, Bucky was capable of conversing.
Do not take another step forward, Subject 10. I have been told to inflict pain if you move from your position.
You took another step anyway, wondering how much you could test the limits of this A.I.
Do not take another step forward, Subject 10. I have been told to inflict pain if you move from your position.
You considered making a run for it but reconsidered. Aries would activate in less than 5 seconds and Steve was still in the house somewhere. You needed to play this better. Besides, you didn’t even have an exit point.
You went back to your pedestal and sat down, drawing patterns on the ground with your feet. It would help to know the time or date. A part of you wondered if anyone was looking for you, but you yourself had answered that question long ago. No one looks for people like you or me.
It could’ve been hours or minutes, but finally, Steve called you into a different room. You observed your environment as you stalked towards the kitchen area where the inventor was seated.
“Sit,” he motioned at the chair that was on the other end of the table.
As soon as you sat, tiny robots flew to your seat and placed food in front of you. It was some sort of soup with a side of bread, the only utensil he gave you being a spoon. Smart bastard.
You wanted to hold off on the food; you really did. But you didn’t even get to eat the sandwich that you were putting together before the kidnapping. So you began devouring the meal, ignoring his pointed stare at your lack of table manners. It was only when you were halfway through the meal did you realize that the food may be drugged. Too late now.
“You killed my only other test subject and rendered her data useless.”
“I didn’t kill her.”
Steve dropped his steak knife and fork, shooting daggers into your eyes.
“Here’s what’s going to happen,” he began. Clasping his hands together, he leaned forward, supporting his weight on his elbows. You could tell by the way he talked that he was used to getting what he wanted. He relished in it.
“Every day, for the next two weeks, I’m going to leave for work. And every day, you’re going to complete the puzzles and tasks that Bucky tells you to do.”
“And if I don’t?”
“It won’t take me more than 10 minutes to kill you, clean up the mess and dispose of your body.”
“If you could kill me, you probably would’ve. I know you considered it,” you remarked, leaning back into your chair and folding your arms.
“Now, why would I waste a perfectly good test subject?” It was his turn to mimic your body language.
“If you want me to do what you need me to do, I need three things,” you announced.
“It’s funny how you think you have any leverage in this situation.”
You kept your face stoic, trying to prove that you were serious about the negotiations. If he didn’t allow you these requests, you would never escape.
“Okay, go on,” he said, clearly amused.
“I need clothes. Regular clothes, not prisoner uniforms. I need to shower. And I need proper food, like what you’re eating.”
“That’s quite the list.” he laughed. Abruptly, his features turned serious. “I hope you know that you don’t hold any cards against me right now, and if I allow any of those things, it’s out of the kindness of my heart.”
It was your turn to laugh. “The kindness of your heart,” you wheezed between laughs. “Sure, okay. Yeah.”
He swallowed the last piece of his meal and gestured towards the sofas.
“Bucky will be guarding you throughout the night. Don’t think of trying anything.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” you beamed at his sour expression right before leaving the table.

Just out of curiosity...which version of Bucky being de-brainwashed do you like best? 616 Cosmic Cube, or MCU I'm With You To The End Of The Line?
Good question. I think they’re both great in different ways.
The MCU made this very... well, not wholesome, but something like that. Steve would rather die in the most horrible way imaginable - beat to death by the one person who promised to be there for him - than kill Bucky, or even hurt him beyond the absolute necessary. Bucky is literally incapable of forgetting Steve and instinctively saves him only seconds after sort of getting his memories back. It speaks volumes about their mutual devotion and works well because the MCU had never really established that their relationship was this intense before this movie, so this neatly establishes the strength of their bond by showing how unbreakable it is. It’s very touching and never fails to make me emotional.
The comics, though, had no reason to establish Steve and Bucky’s bond. If you only knew two things about Steve in the comics, they were probably “has a shield” and “can’t get over Bucky’s death.” Bucky breaking through brainwashing by himself would reveal nothing we didn’t already know, and would only create the plot “Bucky is alive.” Steve causing unspeakable pain to Bucky - both in the moment and long-term - just to have him back, even though he knows Bucky would rather have been killed? Fascinating. It reaches into every one of the worst guilty, obsessive, selfish feelings Steve tries so hard to keep under control and brings them to light. It gives Bucky a very concrete reason to see Steve as a fallible human being instead of a moral guide. It takes a straightforward relationship and complicates it not by changing anything, but by forcing the characters to confront things that were always there. I could talk about the implications forever.
I’ll also add that in the MCU, this scene is a climax, while in the comics, it’s an inciting incident, so they have to achieve literally opposite goals - closure vs raising questions. I think this is why I like both so much! With the MCU, there’s a sense of relief watching Bucky come back, while with the comics, it leaves me breathless and ready to keep reading (or, y’know, re-reading.)
Tl;dr: MCU for fluff, 616 for angst :D

In an AU scenario, where Baron Zemo's family survived the Sokovia disaster somehow, how could Captain America: Civil War play out if he and his family just took priority on taking care of each other rather than seek revenge towards anyone?
Also could you tag my message, the first and the next, I sent so I can see them on the happyhoganon tag?
Before we get into Civil War, let’s talk about Zemo for a minute because he did play a big part in Civil War and could still play a part in Civil War if his family didn’t die. Now a quick background on MCU Zemo.
We all know that Zemo was in EKO Scorpion-the Sokovian kill squad. Meaning, for those who don’t know, he’s just as good at killing people as any assassins are. Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed that to us in Episode Three Power Broker with the fight scene we were given. Since Zemo was a part of a kill squad we can assume that he had missions/deployments occasionally. Very common, his wife and son are used to it because he always came home in one piece. We also know he loved his wife and son very dearly. He was a good husband and a good father—He knew his son's favorite candy and knew that his son wanted an Xbox. He would literally do just about anything for them. Including death as we see in Civil War.
Now, let’s start with Zemo in Sokovia before we touch up on anything Civil War related.
Zemo and his EKO team are sent to defend the Battle of Sokovia. Instead of sending them outside of Novi Grad, he sends them to Riga where they would be safe from all the fighting if it were to make it out that far. Before being sent off to Riga, Zemo promises his family he will catch up to them as soon as he is able. During the evacuation, Zemo and his squad are told to evacuate as well. Zemo get’s whatever car he could get his hands on, hot wires it and speeds his way towards his family. In the rearview mirror, he can see part of his county begin to rise and part of him wants to pull over and watch. But something deep in his gut told him not to.
By the time he arrived in Riga, the devastation of Sokovia had spread worldwide. An entire country was blown to bits and wiped off the face of the Earth. Nothing remained except for the hundreds of lives that were lost.
Zemo volunteered to help with the search and rescue and when he arrived at what was left of Sokovia, he knew he made the right choice to get his family out of the entire country. Their home was nothing more than firewood now. Only a small handful of survivors were found under the rubble in the two days that it took to uncover all the bodies.
A year later, Zemo and a group of survivors go to New York to talk to Tony and Steve about what they could have done differently the moment the battle was over. “Many lives could have still been saved,” Zemo told the two men in front of him. So, Tony, Steve and Zemo talked about what they could do in the future.
But that didn’t stop other countries from drawing up the Sokovia Accords and presenting them to the Avengers after what happened in Lagos. Tony felt like he didn’t have a choice to sign. Natasha as well. Steve doesn’t sign at all because of the same reasons in Civil War.
Instead of a bomb killing T’Chaka, he has a heart attack and dies. Making T’Challa more eagared to get the Accords signed and finalized. T’Challa does what it takes.
Now, Steve finds out Tony let Ross take Wanda. Steve is mad that it happened. He enlists the help of Maria Hill and pulls Clint out of retirement. They track the transport bus down and Clint pops one the tires, making the bus swerve around. As they are getting Wanda off the buss and out of the straight jacket and shock collar, T’Challa comes to try and stop it but is bested by Clint and one of his shocking arrows.
Everyone meets up at the airport like they do in the movie, including Zemo. Steve felt that he would be a great asset to their cause and once he explained everything, Zemo was on his side.
Steve convinces Tony to let them go and before they go, it’s Natasha who reveals that Bucky is Tony’s parents' killer. She explained that after SHIELD/Hydra fell, she combed every single file that Hydra had and she discovered that it was Bucky who killed Howard and Maria Stark.
A fight breaks out because Tony couldn’t keep a level head and not only wants Wanda back, he wants Bucky to pay for the murder of his parents. As the fighting gets more intense, it’s Zemo and Clint that tell Steve that he and Bucky need to get Wanda out of there and leave the rest of them.
As the three of them run to the hanger, they are cornered by Tony. Tony at this point doesn’t care about Wanda. He’s willing to let Wanda go with Steve. He wants Bucky at this point. He wants Bucky to pay for what he did. He wants Bucky to feel what he felt when he lost his parents. But really, Tony can’t do that. Bucky already knows he lost too much.
Steve, of course, says no. Tony is ready to fight Steve until Wanda gets in the way. At this point, Tony’s brain is clouded and he can’t think straight. Tony’s ready to blast Wanda until Vision comes and puts his hand through Tony using the Mind Stone. Giving The trio enough time to leave.
The trio ends up in some random country in a nearby village. The villagers are welcoming and allow the three of them to stay for as long as they like. For the next few months, Wanda helps Bucky erase everything that Hydra did to him after telling Steve about his code words. Soon, Vision shows up with Sam and Natasha, who he broke free from prison.
Steve asked why he did what he did, Vision only answered “It was the right thing to do.”
Vision and Wanda go their separate ways. Sam goes his separate way. Natasha mentions something about a family and leaves. Steve and Bucky are left by themselves until it’s time to rescue Wanda and Vision from Thanos’s children. And it’s Rhodey who suggest they go to Wakanda to see if they can save Vision.
***
A/N: I'll be honest, I wrote this and rewrote this several times before I was happy with it. I do believe that if Zemo didn't break up the Avengers that it would be Natasha to break the news that it was Bucky who killed Howard and Maria Stark. I also believe that Vision would have some sort of "change of heart" after protecting Wanda and running with her. Bucky of course had to play a part cause Civil War isn't Civil War without Bucky so Steve just ended up finding him. Zemo does his part for family and to try and prevent something like Sokovia from happening again.

No Secrets, Part 5
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader, Bucky Barnes x Reader (???)
Warnings: None in this section
Sam stepped up to your front door carrying a tray with two lattes and a bag of pastries. ‘This is going to suck.’
“Morning sunshine.” You opened the door.
“Thought since you missed out on coffee yesterday, I’d bring you some this morning.” He held out the cups. “How’s your face?”
“Thanks.” You took a sip. “I’m fine. I’ve gotten worse sparring in the gym.”
‘Yeah, but that doesn’t scare the hell out of Bucky.’ Sam dug into the bag. “Cheese danish?”
“No thanks.” You pulled your bare feet under you. “So, Steve told you he ah...”
“Confessed his undying love?” Sam dropped on to the sofa next to you. “Yeah, but he hasn’t talked to Bucky. I don’t know why.”
“Peggy.” You provided. “Steve’s carrying around a sort of guilt. He gave his whole heart to Peggy and loving someone is like betraying that, somehow.”
“And Barnes is the only one around who knew her.” Sam was a lot more observant than people gave him credit for. “So is Steve afraid of being judged or he scared to admit that Bucky’s got it bad for you, too?”
You wondered that yourself. In fact, you’d sat up most of the night thinking about Steve and Bucky. This condition afforded you a great deal more information than you ever could have imagined. But with a man like Steve, or a man like Bucky for that matter, you were thankful.
Sam misunderstood your silence. “If it’s obvious to me, it’s got to be like flashing neon signs to you. What are you going to do?”
“Nothing.”
“What?” Sam sputtered. ‘Are you fucking kidding? That’s so wrong! They’ll kill each other.’
“Sam,” You put down your coffee and took his hand. “Damn, you are such a good friend. Answer something for me. Has Bucky ever come on to me? Ever overtly hit on me?”
“I mean, he’s joked. We all have. But, no, not his style.”
You nodded. “I was given some sage advice when this happened. I was told to not judge people by what they thought, but by what they chose to do.”
“Alright, if you say so. You let me know if there’s anything I can do to help, okay?” Sam sat forward. ‘Just keep me clear of the blood bath.’
Steve Rogers couldn’t seem to rest on the flight home. Despite being physically tired, his mind wouldn’t settle down. He wanted to call ahead to say he was on his way home, but it was nearly three in the morning in New York. Instead, he pulled out his laptop and tackled some of the more mundane work of running the Avengers.
He read through reports and approve paperwork for a couple hours when he opened the report requiring payout for a car accident. Multiple vehicles were damaged, minor injuries and the attorney recommended a reasonable settlement as the agent in question was completely at fault.
His eyes locked on your name.
His fingers tightened around the stylus. It took him a moment to take a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. Flipping through the report, he found Sam’s write up. “...stated she sensed the thoughts of the driver behind her attacking his wife. This distracted her, causing the accident. Sergeant Barnes and I were off duty in the area and heard the accident. I recognized the car and we went to investigate. Considering her current condition, the situation was overwhelming to her and we felt it pertinent to remove her from the situation. She had no significant injuries from the accident. I left those impacted by the accident with the contact information for the Compound before leaving the scene.”
Steve pinched the bridge of his nose. He forced himself to breath. You were alright. Sam and Buck were there and took care of you.
Why the hell had you been driving in town?
Checking on the landing time, Steve approved the expense and read through everyone’s statements again. There was less than an hour left before landing. He wondered if it would be alright to wake you, if he called as soon as he made it to his quarters.
The message alert on his phone dinged.
‘Find me when you land, punk.’
After landing, Steve ventured into the common kitchen in search of Bucky. He found his pal slumped over a cup of coffee and the newspaper. "You save any of that for me, jerk."
Bucky pointed at the pot. “Sure did.” He sat back in his chair. “How’d it go?”
“As expected.” Steve poured himself a cup and sat across from Bucky. “Less eventful than your run for teriyaki.”
“I have no idea what the hell she was thinking.” Bucky huffed. “Said she just wanted to go through the coffee shop. I think she’s got cabin fever really bad. But Stevie, you should have seen how shaken she was.”
Steve took a sip of his black coffee, scowling. “How bad was she hurt?”
“Bruise above her left brow. Little bit of burn from the airbag.” Bucky got up and refilled his cup. “Jesus, when I came through that crowd and saw her slumped in the driver’s seat...” He blew out a strong breath. “It’s bad enough when we’re heading into a situation on alert, ready to fight. It’s something completely different when it’s a surprise like that.”
Steve stared as Bucky continued, leaning against the counter.
“I think I freaked out some of the locals. She said she wanted out and I ripped the door clean off the car. I’m glad Sam was thinking, ‘cause I just scooped her up and carried her to the truck. I wasn’t about to let her down or stop to deal with anyone else.”
He sat down, realizing for the first time the intensity of Steve’s stare. “What?”
Steve’s back went stiff. He frowned, before diverting his eyes back to his coffee. “Buck, do you love Y/N?”
“What?” Bucky leaned back with a half laugh. “Of course.”
Steve stood so fast the chair hit the wall behind him. He was gone before Bucky could say anything.
“What the fuck?” Bucky put down his coffee, righted Steve’s chair and followed his friend down the hall. The early morning made it easier to track him without asking for the AI’s help. He was headed for the roof, at least that’s what Bucky guessed.
He stepped out into the early morning air to find Steve standing near the edge, shoulders slumped and a hand pressed into his chest like he used to do as a kid when he had an asthma attack. “Stevie?” Bucky walked up slowly, knowing he didn’t have to raise his voice. “What’s wrong? Talk to me.”
Steve forced himself to take a deep breath, but didn’t turn around. “Does she love you? Has she said that she loves you?”
“Steve.” Bucky came a little closer, but still left some distance. “Talk to me.”
“I told her I love her. Let her know how much, how hard...”
“Oh.” Bucky felt his gut flip over. He knew the gravity of Steve’s confession, knew how hard it was for Steve to let himself love, really love, someone again.
“And you just say ‘of course’ you love her, too.” Steve growled out. “Of all the people in world, Buck, why her?”
“Wait.”
“Of course, you two are always joking and laughing. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before. I’m so fucking stupid...”
“You sure are, punk.” Bucky actually smacked him on the back of the head.
“Fuck off.” Steve’s arm swung out and clipped Bucky, but he caught Steve’s arm.
“Shut up and listen, will ya!”
Steve just glared.
“I didn’t know you felt that way about her.” Bucky growled back. “After Peg, well, I know how bad that hurt you.” He watched his best friend’s face crumble. He voice softened, “When did you tell her?”
“Before I left on this last mission.”
“In person?”
“Yes.”
Bucky nodded, considering. “So, she was aware of what you weren’t saying, too.”
“Yes.” Steve’s voice tightened.
“Wow.” Bucky dropped down on one of the iron benches. “What, ah, what’d she say?”
Steve’s hands buried deep into his pockets and he turned his back on his oldest friend. “I asked her not to say anything. We talked, and I told her anything she wanted to know, but I didn’t want her answer if it was a shock.”
“You know she loves you.” Bucky said to his friend’s back.
Steve just barked a mirthless laugh. “Do I? Because my best pal loves her too. Maybe she loves you.”
“Stevie,” Bucky rubbed his forehead. “I would never stand in the way of you being happy, ever.”
“If I asked her now,” Steve frowned. “Would she be able to say she doesn’t know you want her too?”
“Fuck.” Bucky stood up and stalked over to Steve. “Honestly? No. If she’s been in my head, then she knows how beautiful I think she is, how much I want to take care of her, how good she feels. But damn, Steve, that’s in my head. Only. In. My. Head. She’s my friend, our friend. I’ve never behaved in any way that would cross that line. If she’s your girl, I never will.”
“You said you love her.” Steve’s desperately tried to hold on to his anger, but couldn’t.
“I do. I won’t apologize for it. She’s one of my few friends.”
“But you’re attracted to her, too.”
“So are most of the men who know her, hell, most the men who see her.” Bucky shook his head. “Don’t ever use that argument with her, because you know full well women’s panties have been dropping for you since the forties. It doesn’t mean they love you or that you love them.” Steve’s ears went pink. “So, when did you figure out that she wiggled her way past that giant wall of yours?”
Steve ran his hands through his hair, frustration and jetlag leaving him exhausted. “A while ago. Scared the shit out of me. I should have talk to you about it.”
Bucky threw an arm over Steve’s shoulders, “Still can.”
“Won’t that be weird?”
“My best pal is love with the best gal I know.” Bucky laughed. “That I can deal with. I know you’d rather die than break her heart. Now if you told me Sam was in love with her, I’d have to break his legs.”

A conversation waits to happen.
Squatting in the back of scenes, it forces the narrative in bizarre directions to avoid the confrontation. This conversation is an accumulation of years of organic storytelling that represents a natural evolution of the narrative, an unexpected arc that adds depth to what could otherwise have been considered a formulaic and predictable story.
The words are ready to be spoken. The conversation is waiting.
The year is 2016. Obama is still president. Almost a year has passed since Ireland voted for same-sex marriage, the first country in the world to bring it in by popular vote. Supernatural is in its eleventh season. Destiel is the most popular ship on A03. Civil War, the third Captain America movie, has earned over 1 billion dollars at the box office and #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend is trending on Twitter. What was previously considered a pairing regulated to Tumblr and fandom shipping, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes has grown into a conversation that is being had by the mainstream audience, being discussed in articles across different media including Time, MTV, the UK Independent and EW. The question that has finally come to everyone's attention is as simple as it is controversial; could Captain America be queer?
The narrative within the MCU certainly supports it.
Friends since childhood, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes were separated when Bucky enlisted in the army during the second World War. Steve is later given a serum which turns him into a super soldier and he eventually follows Bucky into the war. Unknown to Steve, Bucky is also given the serum while being held as a POW. Frozen through time until they are reunited in the 21st century, the ‘Captain America’ movies follow their story as they lose each other, find each other and lose each other again.
Throughout Civil War, the third ‘Captain America’ movie, Steve Rogers fights for his best friend Bucky Barnes, going first against 117 countries, and then against his fellow Avengers, all to ensure that Bucky remains safe. He becomes a fugitive for Bucky. He destroys the Avengers for Bucky. He stops being Captain America for Bucky. This follows The Winter Soldier, in which Bucky broke seventy years of brainwashing instead of killing Steve. After dragging Steve's body to safety, Bucky disappears and the fans are left waiting for the next movie to see how it will be resolved.
Bucky is the driving force of Steve Rogers’ character arc in all three of the ‘Captain America’ movies. In The First Avenger, it's Bucky's unit being captured that leads to Steve finally taking up the mantle of Captain America as a hero rather than the showman he'd been before. Later, Bucky's death is what causes him to attack Hydra's main headquarters, ending in his death.
Would Steve have allowed himself to die if Bucky was still alive? A deleted scene in Endgame, the last ‘Avengers’ movie, implied there was no reason for Steve to go down with the plane. This leads to questions about Steve's motivations. His devastation at Bucky's death is the driving force in the final act of the movie and not even Peggy, his love interest, can talk Steve out of crashing the plane. It makes the scene more poignant when Steve tells Peggy this is his choice, a reference to her telling Steve to respect Bucky's choice as she comforted him in the bombed-out pub where he and Bucky had shared a drink earlier in the movie.
The Winter Soldier is a masterclass in storytelling. It shows Steve learning to live in the future while clinging to the past with his visits to an elderly Peggy, living in a nursing home and often forgetting he's back, and the Smithsonian hosting an exhibit about his past with videos of Bucky. It shows him lost as to what he's meant to do without a war to fight. Peggy's final scene in the movie is in the first act. She tells Steve to move on, and the next scene introduces the Winter Soldier. When Bucky is revealed to be the Winter Soldier, saving him is Steve's motivation for the rest of the movie; the same motivation he has in The First Avenger, and what will become his motivation in Civil War.
Even when warned he may not be able to save Bucky, Steve refuses to give up on him. In the end, he almost allows Bucky to beat him to death instead of hurting him, and he delivers one of the movie's most iconic lines, "Then finish it. Cause I'm with you to the end of the line." Steve is willing to die for Bucky, and this line, the same line Bucky said to Steve after his mother's funeral, is what causes Bucky to break free of his programming, and save Steve. The movie ends with Steve deciding to go after him, making him the driving force for the third movie as well.
The second ‘Avengers’ movie, Age of Ultron, shows that Steve is continuing his search for Bucky, and also finally allows him to put his past to rest as he realises he's changed from who he was before he went into the ice and is now home. It's the culmination of his arc in The Winter Soldier; Steve is home, he has friends and a team. He has a mission in the Avengers and a purpose in searching for Bucky.
Civil War reinforces Bucky's importance in the opening sequence when Steve freezes up when Bucky is mentioned, resulting in an explosion that kills thirteen. Later, when Bucky is accused of bombing the UN, Steve does everything he can to make sure he finds him first, not caring that the action leads to him being considered a criminal because it means Bucky is still alive.
The conversation that happens in Civil War is short. Five lines long. A scene in a plane that allows Bucky to express his regret and guilt for his actions as the Winter Soldier, and allows Steve to reassure him that it wasn't his fault. The next scene is them discussing a day in Brooklyn and a date. There is no discussion as to why Steve is destroying his life to save his friend. The reason is implicit in every action; Bucky is more important than everyone else in Steve's life, up to and including the Captain America mantle. This is emphasised when he fights Tony Stark and drops the shield at the end of the movie instead of abandoning Bucky.
In the final scenes where a conversation and a resolution of the emotional journey would be expected, it is once again pushed away. Bucky choses to be frozen again and Steve goes back to the fight. The movie ends with no explanation for why Steve has willingly walked away from the life he's built in the future for his best friend.
There is a gap, an empty space, a missing element to the storytelling.

To Live For, To Die For (Bucky X Reader)
This is the second one I picked for Sea’s 2k milestone XD Gotta say...not nearly as sweet to write this one as it was the other. But I hope you guys like it!
Song: Somebody to Die For
Sequel is up: “Just Like This”
@geosaurusrrex - official congrats on hitting 2k man XD
P.S. There is a reason your last name is “Potts”.
I could drag you from the ocean I could pull you from the fire And when you’re standing in the shadows I could open up the sky And I could give you my devotion Until the end of time And you will never be forgotten With me by your side
The two of them fit.
It was odd, like nothing any of the Avengers had ever seen before. Bucky had spent so much time living to kill, he forgot what it was like - what it meant to simply live. Then he met her. The mutant friend of T’Challa’s wife, Orroro. Shuri told him bits of her history, but refused anymore, forcing him to ask the young woman himself.
“Hey Sarge,” this new woman teased, beaming smile and amused gleam forcing a rose blush on his cheeks.
“Call me Bucky.”
He remembered the way she looked at him, as if seeing through every hardship he’d ever endured and then some. She tilted her head, an emotion he couldn’t place mixing with that clear amusement. Rather than arguing, Y/N merely nodded. “Okay, if that’s what you want,” she smiled. “Bucky.”
The woman had brought him back from the edge in a way Steve couldn’t. Steve kept pressuring him, asking for the friend he once had. No, the words never actually left his lips. Steve wasn’t that kind of guy. But she never expected James Buchanan Barnes or the Winter Soldier. She merely asked for Bucky. All the woman asked for was the ability to understand. And in being so simple, so innocent and kind, she managed to do something no one else could.
Y/N Potts taught him to live for something.
And now they had spent every waking moment together, tending to his goats, helping him with his memories. She was still an enigma to him, something he felt he would never fully understand. But that was okay. He could wait for her.
And I don’t need this life I just need...
Y/N hadn’t expected Bucky to weasel her way into her heart. He wasn’t supposed to. She had only meant to visit Orroro, to update her on the mutants back home, and be done with it. Then she’d be going to New York to visit her sister and that weird genius she continued to date. But there was something about the man that she couldn’t get out of her head. T’Challa said it was normal, that Bucky had that reputation back in the day. Shuri immediately shut him up, reminding him that Bucky was a different person. He wasn’t James Barnes or the Winter Soldier anymore.
And it left her wondering - who was left in their wake?
He was so kind and gentle. Quiet and withdrawn, as if he deserved to live a life in misery. Y/N had never fallen for someone so good. He didn’t see it. All he saw was the blood on his hands. Even so, she saw past it and to the man within. It wasn’t someone for him to become, no, that standard wasn’t something she could hold him to.
But she could help him find who he was - the man past the guilt and regret and shame.
Back home, Y/N was a teacher. She taught mutants of all ages and had a family to love and care for within those youthful faces that had been cast out. She knew what it was like to live for something, for someone.
It wasn’t until Bucky that she learned what it was like to have that person. The "somebody” that Logan had warned her about all those years ago.
Somebody to die for.
I’ve got nothing left to live for Got no reason yet to die But when I’m standing in the gallows I’ll be staring at the sky Because no matter where they take me Death I will survive And I will never be forgotten With you by my side
“You’re my person.”
Bucky looked down at her, raising an eyebrow. The clear confusion was evident in those bright baby blues of his, but she couldn’t bring herself to explain the meaning behind her words. When he realized she wouldn’t explain, he stroked her forehead, where skin met hair, and whispered, “What does that mean?”
She smiled, squeezing his hand before placing a gentle kiss against his knuckles. No, she didn’t need to tell him. Not yet. “You’ll figure it out, Buck.”
“Wait, why won’t you --”
The sound of footsteps outside caught both their attention. They shared a look before Y/N lifted her head off Bucky’s lap. No one bothered him out here. It was almost an unspoken rule that his only visitors be Y/N and Shuri.
So what was going on?
Bucky stood, keeping Y/N behind him as they walked out of the hut. Outside stood King T’Challa, Queen Orroro, and Princess Shuri. So many royals, so many guards, and a case that neither had seen before. Still, they didn’t need to know its contents. Bucky knew. He always knew.
Walking forward, he kept Y/N close. She calmed him in a way no one else could. As he approached, T’Challa opened the case and revealed a brand new vibranium arm.
Y/N couldn’t tear her eyes away from it. Instead, she placed a calming hand on his back, lighting tracing the old scars through the course fabric. She didn’t need to look at Bucky to know what he wanted to ask.
“Where’s the fight?” His rough voice held back fear and a bitterness Y/N hadn’t heard before. She hadn’t seen Bucky as a soldier, but she was scared. What would become of her Bucky if he went back to that life?
“On its way,” T’Challa explained before looking to Y/N. “We’ll need both of you.”
She looked up, meeting his gaze. “I don’t answer to you, T’Challa.”
“Y/N. Please.” Y/N shifted her gaze to Orroro. The woman that had helped her when she had first sought help from the X-men. She owed the weather witch everything.
And knowing that, she nodded.
“Is Steve Rogers on his way,” Y/N asked, knowing Bucky would want to see his old friend.
Orroro nodded. “Him and more of his team.”
Y/N didn’t see the way Bucky looked at her. She didn’t see the pain in his eyes or the fear he hid behind a clenched jaw and tense shoulders. No, instead Bucky hid those feelings away as she turned to look at him. She couldn’t see him worry about losing her.
He was her person. Whatever that meant, he had to be strong. For her.
Cause I don’t need this life I just need...
Bucky had never seen Y/N’s powers in action. He’d heard stories, sure, seen her scars like she’d seen his, but this was different.
She was beautiful. She fought like it was a work of art.
Y/N had the power to manipulate water. She could turn it into a solid, liquid, or gas and manipulate its purpose even further.
How had he never seen this before?
Y/N used the water to lift her in the air, keeping close to the river that ran through Wakanda. She froze it, sliding around as if she were creating her own roller coaster. Slicing the water through the air, she decapitated aliens left and right as Bucky ran others down with bullets. Their abilities weren’t suitable for working alongside. One stray bullet, one alien falling at the wrong angle, and she’d fall into the mess.
But still.
She was something else.
However, both stopped and shared a look when they heard Bruce over the comms. “Guys! Guys, Vision needs backup now!”
Bucky opened his mouth to say he was on the way, but Y/N beat him to it. “I’m on it.”
She took off on the ice, knowing she was best to go. She heard the water in the background. Wherever Bruce and Vision were - a waterfall was nearby. Y/N could at least buy them some time until Steve or Wanda got there.
Somebody to die for Somebody to cry for When I’m lonely
The trees were difficult to maneuver around on ice. Y/N knew she needed to save what water she had access to if she was going to get to the falls. She dropped to the ground, ducking and weaving around the massive trunks until she heard the familiar sound of crunching metal.
She screeched to a stop as saw the scene taking place just over the ledge. Bruce was struggling against one of Thanos’s henchmen, a bigger brute. “Bruce?” she called before hearing a cry from behind her.
Y/N spun fast, the water from the falls moving in front of her and catching the weapon in a squishy sort of a shield. She looked up, eyes wide as she came face to face with another one of the aliens. It was tall and slim, scales covering its body with long pointed ears that reached high towards the sky. A massive tail flicked behind its back. Which alien was this? Y/N didn’t care. She didn’t need to know.
“You’ll die,” the alien promised, its voice a low hiss. If it weren’t for the promise, she would have believed the voice was almost soothing.
“Not right now,” Y/N muttered, flipping the blade with a jerk of the water. The alien spun in the air, landing with a thud. Immediately they jumped up, growling at her and sweeping the large weapon low to the ground.
The two circled each other, studying the opposite for weaknesses, for a break. “I saw your little human with the metal arm,” it hissed, tilting its head as Y/N’s shoulders tensed. She flexed her fingers, the water around her spinning faster. “His head is cloudy. Lost, isn’t he?” The alien cackled as Y/N clenched her jaw. “I’ll make him my pet, share the memory of your death with him over and over until his mind is nothing but sludge.”
Y/N knew there were some aliens with abilities similar to mutants. But telepathy? “Let’s not make this personal.”
“Death always is.” The alien grinned, fanged teeth forming a perfect row that sent a shudder down Y/N’s spine.
Y/N refused to let this...thing get the better of her. It leapt in the air, raising its weapon as if ready to strike before Y/N could move.
But Y/N? She was a mutant.
She was an X-man.
She knew how to fight.
With a flick of her wrist, the water lashed forward. It froze in midair, just in time for the ice pick to pierce through the alien’s temple. Y/N sidestepped, looking away as the alien fell to the ground and slid past her. She always hated the sight of death. Grimacing, Y/N walked away from the body and searched through the trees for any sign of Vision.
“Vis!”
The sound of Wanda’s blood curdling cry made Y/N stop dead in her tracks. The sound was heart wrenching. It made Y/N feel more sick than any number of dead bodies or any amount of food. She had to get to Wanda. She took off, running as fast as her legs could carry her.
Leaping over a massive root, Y/N landed in a crouch and her eyes widened when she saw Vision’s body on the ground. Thanos was here.
When I’m standing in the fire I will look him in the eye And I will let the devil know that I was brave enough to die And there’s no hell that he can show me That’s deeper than my pride Cause I will never be forgotten Forever I’ll fight
Y/N heard voices behind her. She turned and saw Steve face to face with Thanos. Her stomach clenched. Bucky couldn’t lose Steve. He couldn’t.
Steve grunted, teeth clenched as he tried to keep Thanos from snapping his fingers. Thanos grimaced, looking at the soldier as if he was nothing more than an insect. Pushing down, he amused himself with Steve’s struggle. This Captain America...so small. So...
Weak.
Thanos threw his arm with a force stronger than his best henchman. He sent Steve flying through trees and landing with a loud thud. Y/N stepped forward, the snap of a branch signaling her arrival to Thanos. Everyone had one goal.
Don’t let him snap his fingers.
She swept her arms, the water she had constantly running around her now rushing forward and freezing around his hand. He kept clenching his fist, flexing around the ice and cracking it. Layer after layer of frozen water appeared. Y/N repeated the process over and over, circling Thanos as he eyed her. He was studying her, she knew it. He was waiting till she ran out.
However, the sight of the clouds rolling reminded her of one particular weather witch on her side. Slowly, rain started pouring from the sky. She used the droplets to form needles. Thanos rolled his eyes. The needles were merely an annoyance.
“Enough of this.”
Thanos clenched his fist, shattering the ice once more. He went to snap his fingers, stopped when a fist of ice hit his palm. He clenched the gauntlet around the fist, eyes slowly traveling down the arm to the mutant before him. There was fear in her eyes, he could see it. But with that, a resilience, a determination similar to that hed seen in Gamora.
The titan had studied many faces of the Avengers. He learned of them, wanted understand their strengths and weaknesses. She was not an Avenger.
Who was she?
He clenched his fist ever so slightly, letting the ice crack, but not shatter. This was a game.
“What’s your name?”
“Y/N Potts.”
He cracked. She saw past that passive facade and saw genuine surprise in those piercing eyes. He’d heard of her.
“A mutant.”
“Clearly.”
“The sister of Tony Stark’s redemption.”
Thanos raised her fist, lifting her in the air. She had yet to see him kill anyone other than Vision. With Vision there was a purpose, a reason. Thanos only killed when there was a reason.
She’d get back to Bucky.
And I don’t need this life I just need Somebody to die for Somebody to cry for I just need...
“Humans. You always think you know best. That you’re better than a universe you have yet to even comprehend.”
Thanos shattered the fist, his hand clenching around her much smaller one. She cried out as she felt her bones shatter underneath his strength. Flipping her free hand, the rain formed into rushing water. A spear found its way to her hand up to her elbow, ready to swipe at his head. Thanos smirked, grabbing her upper arm and twisting to the point where it was just about to break.
“Ungh -” She clenched her jaw, seeing Steve stand out of her peripheral. She glanced his way only for a moment, the faintest smile curling her lips. Steve wasn’t dead. Bucky would be happy.
“Y/N.” Steve muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. She didn’t hear it.
“Do you kill for the hell of it?” Y/N’s voice came out trembling, tears from the pain slipping down her cheeks. “Step on anything that crosses your path?” She needed to reason with him, to remind Thanos that he didn’t kill for the hell of it.
She had to try to live for Bucky.
“No, I don’t kill for the hell of it,” Thanos answered. Swinging her feet, she pressed them against his chest in an attempt to get away. He jerked her arm, the twist causing a shriek to tear from her throat. Her feet slipped. Y/N hung in the air as if she were nothing more than a rag doll. “I only kill the weak.”
Y/N moved to say more, but the words died on her lips when she saw a familiar face running up behind Steve. More tears streamed down her cheeks when she saw those piercing blue eyes, that brow furrowed in confusion.
Bucky.
“Y/N.” He said her name. She knew he did, but his voice was so low, she didn’t hear it. She saw his mouth move, saw his lips form her name, and her heart sped up. Her stomach erupted in butterflies.
Even with Thanos ready to kill her, she still had butterflies.
Steve held Bucky back. At the moment, Y/N was distracting Thanos. She was alive and keeping him from snapping his fingers. It was buying Thor time. Any sort of distraction and Thanos could and would kill her. Her injuries could be fixed. She could heal. “Buck,” he whispered, voice cracking as he stared at his friend. “Buck, she’s going to be okay. She’s going to live, I promise.” But Bucky wasn’t looking at Steve.
He was looking at Y/N.
“Please,” he whispered, voice cracking.
“Is that him?” Y/N looked back to Thanos, brow furrowing in confusion. Her nose was runny from crying, her eyes red and puffy. She was in more pain than she had ever been. Normally the fights with the X-men went in her favor. It seemed the Avengers didn’t have their luck.
“What?” she asked, voice trembling.
Thanos watched, pity in his eyes. “The man you’d live for. Your redemption.”
“No. No, I wouldn’t live for him.”
Thanos furrowed his brow, confused.
“But he’s the man I’d die for.”
Thanos nodded, allowing himself to respect that. “I won’t kill you.”
Y/N smirked. “Thanks, but I can’t promise the same to you.”
Ice picks formed at her toes and she kicked up. Her foot connected with the underside of his arm, the one that held the gauntlet. He grunted as she twisted her body. The ice pick tore away from her foot, remaining lodged inside his arm. Thanos dropped her and she landed on her shattered arm. Bone piercing through her skin, she felt something tear through her side.
The smell of blood made her want to throw up.
And I don’t need this life I just need... Somebody to die for Somebody to cry for When I’m lonely
Steve and Bucky took off. Thanos had been playing with Y/N, enjoying someone trying so hard. Now he had all the Infinity Stones. It wasn’t a game. Bucky started shooting at Thanos as a distraction for Steve. He slid in, grabbing Thanos’s hand and keeping his fingers pried apart. He shook, body trembling once again as he used his strength against the titan. While Y/N could distract him with words, with fascinating powers and tear filled eyes, they didn’t have that luxury.
Bucky’s mind wasn’t on Thanos or the people. It was on Y/N. He slid to her side. The arm Thanos had twisted, cracked. The bone had pierced the flesh and dug into her ribcage. He wasn’t sure what was pierced, but judging by her pale complexion, her barely open eyes, Bucky felt his heart clench and contort with an onslaught of fear.
“Y-Y/N,” he whispered, brushing her hair back. “Y/N, stay with me. S-Stay, you gotta stay with me, doll.”
“Bucky -” Steve grunted, forcing himself to stand and push Thanos back. He only got two steps in.
“No,” Bucky growled, his voice low and rough. Thanos said he wouldn’t kill her. He said that, he practically promised it. So why - He cupped her clammy cheek in his flesh hand, stroking her temple. “Y/N, can you hear me?”
She seemed to be looked just past him, her eyes searching for something. Y/N’s lips murmured his name, so low he couldn’t even hear it. She was searching for him. “Y/N,” he whispered, lip quivering as a tear slipped down his cheek. It disappeared in his bear. “Y/N, I’m here. I’m right here.”
Bucky didn’t hear the fight going on behind him. He didn’t hear Thor’s lightning crackling through the sky. All he could hear, all he could see, was her.
“Y/N, please,” he whispered, pressing his forehead against hers. His tears slipped from his cheeks, falling onto hers. Her breathing was shallow, faint. “Please, we can get Shuri. Come on, doll. You can do this. She - She can...Please, Y/N. Don’t leave me.”
Faintly, he heard Thor’s voice say, “I told you...you’d die for that.”
Bucky ignored whatever was going on behind him. Instead, he listened to her breathing. His hand slipped around her back and he cradled her against his chest, soft sobs making his shoulders tremble. “Please,” he whispered, “You’re my person.”
“What did you do!?” Thor’s angered shout broke through Bucky’s pain. He looked down at Y/N, her breathing still...so shallow, so close to something he couldn’t bring her back from. “I’ll be back. I’m going to find Shuri,” he promised, standing up. He looked back, his gaze landing on Thor and Thanos through the tree line. Bucky clenched his jaw, searching through the trees.
He didn’t have time.
“Shuri!” His voice was loud, booming as he tried to find the brilliant princess. She could save Y/N. No matter how many bones were broken or how much blood was lost. Shuri could help her. “Shuri!”
But then he felt...off.
He looked down at his fingers, watching them blow away and turn to dust.
“Bucky?”
Bucky looked up, his gaze landing on Steve. But Y/N. She - “Steve?”
He stepped forward, collapsing to his knees as Steve ran towards him. He watched his oldest friend swoop in and try to catch, but it was too late.

Fifty Ways to Kiss Someone
Relationship: AFAB!Reader & Bucky
Word Count: 5455
Warnings: None
Summary: Based off of this list
Link: Found here on my AO3
…good morning. Bucky, the first time he kissed you good morning, was halfway asleep. He didn’t even mean to kiss you that first time in the morning. But the sun had just risen. The golden rays hit your face in just the right way. He was still groggy from the dream he had. He had just done it. He has just kissed you and whispered ‘good morning’ to you. You just looked so amazing. You were half asleep too but you had still felt the kiss. When you brought it up later that morning, he chalked it up to being half asleep but he never stopped kissing you good morning from then on out.
…goodnight. Bucky always kissed you goodnight. From the first time you spent the night over at his house, he had kissed you goodnight. He loved being the last thing you saw before he fell asleep. He never ever dared kiss you goodnight anywhere else but your forehead. He loved saying that it would make you dream of good things at night and he always wanted you to have good dreams. You returned in kind, hoping that it would help with his nightmares, and it did. But he never told you that it was an old wives tale and that you-all wrapped up in his arms-is what stopped him from having the nightmares.
…goodbye. Bucky kissed you as a goodbye whenever you went on a mission. He never wanted to leave you without a goodbye kiss. He even stopped the jet a few times because he forgot to kiss you and it was that important to him. It was a ritual. You were Bucky’s good luck charm and he would never want to give that up. No matter what lied ahead of you both, he would never, ever forget to kiss you on the forehead. It was his way of making sure that you both still carried the unspoken agreement that you two would come home to each other relatively unhurt.
…where it hurts. Bucky loved kissing your heart. He knows it sounds weird but that was where most of your pain came from. Even if it wasn’t a physical scrape or bruise, he always kissed you there. He knew how much hurt you held there. All of the past lovers who broke it off because you were too ‘weird’ to your parents who weren’t so kind to you after you revealed that you were in cahoots with the man who killed Tony Stark’s parents. He knew that you were the only one in the relationship who truly seemed to care about other people’s opinions but he did too and he hated seeing you in that much pain because you cared so outwardly of those kinds of things.
…where it doesn’t hurt. Bucky always liked kissing you on your shoulders and neck. It often was the only place that didn’t get hurt during a mission and oftentimes the only place that you would let him kiss you after a mission. Trust him, he tried kissing elsewhere but it just didn’t work out in his favor. He learned soon enough to kiss only there after missions. You always said that it was your favorite part of getting the ever-loving shit beat out of you on these missions but he knew that it was kicking the shit out of the bad guys.
…on a falling tear. You had just lost your favorite pet of many years. It had been your only friend for years until Bucky showed up. This pet had loved you when no one else did. Bucky was the one person who had seen you begin to cry. He was the first and last person to see you do so, even after Tony’s funeral and your own wedding. He knew-only slightly-what it was like to see someone you love die. Sure, he had seen those around him die and had heard about his own family dying but never had he seen the pain it had caused to other people. He didn’t know it meant seeing you cry, but he held your secret to the grave.
…to shut them up. Bucky said you always talked too much. But he never minded when you talked. Sometimes he would just want you to be quiet. He would just kiss you to shut you up. This would never happen often though because he truly wanted to hear what you had to had to say. But sometimes, right before bed when your mind was still racing from the days before, it was just a way to make you calm down and stop talking. It was much appreciated though because you probably would not have gone to sleep without his kiss and you would forever be grateful to him for that.
…in secrecy. Your relationship was secret for some time. No one wanted to hear that you had gone and fallen in love with the man who killed one of your best friend’s parents. Hell, even Steve was concerned for you and the fact that you might be falling for the reformed assassin. But there was nothing more than love for him. He was the only one you had ever really loved before. He would make sure you were truly ready to come out with the relationship but before that it meant a lot of secret kisses in hidden corners of rooms while you were in secret.
…in public. Bucky hated kissing you in public. He was really not the kind of person would kiss his person public. But when he did, it was to show people who you were with. People tended to hit on you when they thought you were alone. You would never mind it but when people got too forceful with their flirting, he will swoop in and give you a kiss on the cheek to get them to stop. But that was the end of the people who tried to flirt with you. That was the only time he really kissed you in public other than your wedding day.
…desperately. He was super desperate to get back to you after missions where you two were separated. He was ready to see you and every time was like some movie scene. Bucky would come barreling towards you, dropping whatever bag he had with him for Steve or Sam to pick up, and lift you up in his arms all just to kiss you. It had become such a commonplace that the others would just ignore him. But it is the most desperate kiss he had ever given to you and that was fine by the both of you because that’s how much he loved and missed you.
…in joy. It was the first time you said yes to a date with him. He would have the idea planted in his head that someone would not be in love with a man who had gone through as much trauma as he did but he was super happy that you said yes. He asked to kiss you almost immediately to which you obviously said ‘yes’. He just slammed his lips into yours because he was so happy to have ‘a catch’ like you ready and willing to date someone like him. Bucky was on cloud nine for the rest of the month.
…in grief. It was the day you both lost Tony. Bucky had been heartbroken that he never really got to apologize to Tony about what he had done while he was under the worst kind of brainwashing. It wasn’t the best thing to think about but he was crushed. You were crushed because Tony had been a mentor to you like most everyone else at the funeral. You all hung back and watched the lovely funeral as to not interrupt the family and friends who had really been liked by Tony despite all the fights that they had. But Bucky snuck in a few tear-filled kisses after the funeral was over just because he was so sad to see his former enemy die.
…discreetly. Bucky normally kissed your hand when he was trying to be as discreet as he could. Or he would fly past you with record-breaking speed during a mission and would kiss you on your cheek. Those were the best kisses though because he knew it always caught you off guard and that was his favorite thing to do, catch you off guard and keep you on your toes. But he hated those few milliseconds that he got to kiss you and would rather stop and kiss you for a few moments or until he was out of breath and ready to keep kissing you until you told him to stop but sometimes those discreet kisses were oftentimes the only thing he could do.
…casually. Bucky would kiss your neck and chest often whenever he was bored. He would never even think about it often. He would just do it. Bucky loved every single bit of kissing you and you would never bring anything up about it because you loved every single bit of it. It was the best part of his day. Just bringing his lips to your neck and kissing you just out of nothingness. You would return in kind every so often but it would normally be Bucky most of the time. He loved to just do that to you every time he was just ready to be casually kissing you.
…passionately. This was the second or third kiss that you two shared. It was right after a date that you two had shared with Steve and a girl Sam had tried setting him up with. Bucky was happy to have a date that replicated what he would do with Steve back before the serum had been injected into Steve and war broke out. He would happily make sure that both of you were provided with the best date possible despite Steve’s groaning. He was happy to just have you there with him and didn’t mind the groan from Steve when he finally kissed you.
…lazily. This would normally happen when he just woke up. He would place kisses all over your face. It would signal the start of a new day and a new chance to see his beautiful face. He was ready to see your eyes flutter open and look up at him with all the love you could muster at such an early time. Bucky was happy to just wake you up and wait for an hour or two while you laid in your bed with him. He didn’t even know why he did it, he just did. But that was the best part of his day and he swore by it.
…to distract. You had gotten pretty badly hurt in a fight. Bucky was the one who took you to the infirmary to get patched up. He waited there for a good hour while you were getting stitches. He kissed anywhere that wasn’t sterile because he thought it would take the pain away from you. It took up a bit of your attention and it was the best distraction that you could ask for. But it didn’t take up most of the pain but the kisses were enough to take away most of the pain you were feeling. He didn’t move away from you until you were all patched up and safe.
…as encouragement. You were about to go up on stage to give a speech in Tony’s honor. He would have wanted you to go up considering you were a lot better with people than Banner. So you had to give a speech about things you didn’t even know but Bucky ended up giving you a few kisses before you went on stage just to make sure you knew he was cheering you on from the sidelines. He was so happy for you and so was everyone else but Bucky was the one who showed his happiness for you the most out of all of them.
…for luck. Bucky kissed you out of luck all the time. He was ready to kiss you once more every morning because he needed more luck. Bucky considered you his lucky charm. He was ready to be near you towards the end of your bedtime in the morning but you both had to leave to get ready for separate missions. He always considered you his good luck charm and he was ready to make you feel good. It was already so wonderful to be considered his but it made you feel even more special to be considered his good luck charm.
…on a scar. You were the one giving him this kiss. He was so insecure of the scar that was left on his shoulder from where his arm had been taken off. You were ready to kiss him there whenever he needed it. He tried to kiss you on the scars you had but you always loved making him feel better about the scar on his shoulder. But on the rare times that you allowed him to kiss your scars, it was normally before the two of you had sex. But the times you kissed his scars, it was purely just an act of love and not lust.
…on a place of insecurity. Bucky always kissed you where you were insecure. He didn’t mind at all and would drop everything to do this. After all, you kissed him on the place that he was pretty insecure about anyhow. So he really loved to kiss you where you were insecure. The smile on your face when he whispered out how much he loved your insecurities was like going to heaven and seeing an angel. He was so happy to make your confidence soar, even for a little bit. He loved it so much and it was a thank you to all that you had done for him.
…in a rush of adrenaline. It was right after a mission where you almost feel off of a building much like he fell off the train. He was ready to grab you and now, with the help of Steve, was able to save you from the death that he had experienced. He was still in the middle of the mission but he kissed you anyways. He almost lost you in the same way Steve lost him. He pretty much stopped the whole mission right then and there to kiss you but Steve stopped the two of you from going any further just so that you could continue the mission like planned.
…in relief. You had come home from a big mission with Steve. Bucky had been held back because his arm had been malfunctioning. But as soon as you got back he rushed into your awaiting arms and kissed you so many times. He was ready to have you home, having become bored in Wakanda while you were gone. He had heard about all of the danger that the mission held. He was sure that you would come back seriously injured but that was not the reality. He was ready to make sure every injury was taken cared for but you returned unharmed to his relief and he kissed you.
…in danger. Bucky always kissed you when you felt some sort of danger around you during a mission before you both split up to go fight some more bad guys. Sometimes this happened when there was nothing to be fearful of. Bucky was ready to have all defenses up when it came to you. Both of you did it as an act of luck when you felt the danger arise but both of you ended up coming out with only a few scapes on you. That were a few times where both of you came out looking like death but that was few and far between all things considered.
…as a ‘yes’. It was the day both of you had attempted to propose to each other. Everyone but both of you knew that you two were planning on proposing to each other. It was hilarious once you both found out but that was the best day of your lives despite the fact that you two hadn’t known about the shared proposal. You both ended up giving each other a kiss as a way of saying ‘yes’ to the other. Everyone was super happy because they were ready to see how much you two loved each other and how happy you two were to propose to each other.
…as an apology. Bucky was super sad when he started a fight with you that he didn’t mean to even start. It took a long time for you to even actually begin to work on talking to you again. He wasn’t ready to work on building your relationship back up. You had seen the hard work that Bucky had been doing and when he came back to give you the best apology ever with the biggest teddy bear that he could find, flowers and chocolates but all you asked for was a kiss which he happily gave you but you still took the other presents just because he had put so much effort into his apology.
…as a suggestion. Bucky would love kissing you right on the lips every single time he wanted to get something from you. It was most often sex based on how long and how needy his kiss seemed. He loved every second of it because he knew what he was doing to you and what he thought about it. Normally, he would provide this kiss with bit of grinding as well. Then you knew what he was suggesting and would eventually give into the suggestion that he was wordlessly providing but that was after carefully putting anything away that might hurt either of you.
…as a lie. Bucky kissed you right before he got dusted. Both you and Steve had to watch him go down. He said that he was okay and that he felt fine but that was a lie. As soon as you backed away from him, he crumbled to pieces and you were left with Steve to console you while your whole body crumbled to the ground. Bucky had lied to you and for all you knew, he was dead and gone. You and Steve had to pick up the pieces of the hole he left in your lives but you never dared go out with anyone in the five years that he was gone.
…as a promise. Bucky has kissed you after your first date in hopes to make a promise to you to not give up on you both. He was ready to make a promise to you that as long as you wanted to date him, that he would help protect you and give you the best love he could give. That was all you needed and that was the best promise that you could have from Bucky or any other person. He loved every part of that promise kiss that he had given you after that first date and he upheld that promise every day afterward.
…as comfort. You would have to kiss him often when you both awoke from one of his nightmares. Bucky would love those kisses that calmed him down and made him feel more comforted. He didn’t like waking you up and always tried to convince you to sleep on the couch some nights but you would stay with him and kiss him on his forehead and ask him to please dream about him for the night. Sometimes that would happen but other times you would be awoken a few moments after falling asleep with more nightmares.
…after a small rejection. You had tried to apply for a job that would keep you busy after on the job injury would have you out of commission for a while. No one really wanted a superhero on their team because it was too much of a liability. But Bucky was there to kiss you every single time you got rejected from a job with a lovely dinner-well, as lovely as Bucky could prepare which was normally takeout-and a cuddle session after said kiss. He would have so many kisses for you that it was lovely to get those after those small rejections.
…to wake yours up. You were a lot heavier sleeper compared to Bucky. He was a light-ish sleeper due to the nightmare he occasionally gets but that was what came with the job. Either you were a super heavy sleeper or a light one. Whenever Bucky wanted you to wake up from your heavy sleep, he would kiss your forehead until you awake from your dreams. Sometimes it would take only a few kisses but it could take more kisses than that and that was because you wanted to feel his lips on your forehead. But as soon as you are awake, Bucky has to pinch you because you thought you were still in your dreams.
…forcefully. The first kiss he had with you was less than perfect. He was halfway drunk at that point but that was the least of your problems when he first kissed you. It was less than romantic too since it was apart of a game Tony had set up with the rest of the partygoers. Bucky was super embarrassed the next day and apologized for his drunken, slightly forceful kiss. It still took awhile for you to forgive him for the kiss but it would eventually fall by the wayside as more problems had come into you life in more alien invasions of your home city.
…to pretend. Bucky and you had to go on a mission where you had to pretend to be in love with you for a mission. But that was the least of his problems. He was actually falling for you for you for real. He loved every second of being in fake love with you. He would much rather be in love with you and he found that out pretty quickly. He loved being fake in love with you so much that he would much rather be with you for real instead of for pretend but that was a long time before he actually asked you out.
…to gain something. Bucky had wanted to hear what you really wanted for the winter holidays. He didn’t have a lot of money saved in the bank since being a superhero didn’t really make money like it used to. Actually, it never really made money in the first place. But he wanted to make sure he gained some information about what the perfect holiday for both of you. But a lot of kisses and a little bit of coercing later he got what he wanted, the perfect holiday from you.
…to give up control. Bucky never wanted to give up control to anyone else but you. He gave you the first kiss because he wanted to give up control on his life and everything he ever felt. Bucky wanted to give up a lot of control when he started dating you. He wanted to make sure that you knew he was giving you all of the control that you never wanted to have but he gave it to you anyways in hopes that you would have his heart. He would want this to happen to anyone else but you because you are the only one he loved.
…without a motive. Bucky never needs a reason to kiss you. But you always felt like you needed a reason for him to kiss you. He would just want to kiss you whenever and wherever. You always asked about it because you genuinely wanted to know why he was always wanted to kiss you but sometimes he never even gave you a reason. It aggravated you from time to time but you learned to never question it again since you knew that it was going to be no reason at all on some occasions. It was fine with you after a while of being with him.
…because yours is running out of time. The last time Bucky kissed you was while you were in the hospital. You had badly been injured on a mission and he had been the one to find your injured body. He blamed himself a lot while you were in the hospital and blamed himself for the fact that you got hurt. Though, you didn’t end up pulling through. The last time he had kissed you was when you said you could feel yourself slipping. He kissed you, with tears coming down his face to stop you from saying anything much worse and that was when you ran out of time on this mortal plane. He had kissed you one final time.
…because mine is. Bucky had requested that you stay by his side through anything and everything. That meant going to Wakanda to see him put into cryosleep. You didn’t know when he was waking up and he didn’t know either. It could be a few months or fifty years. You ended up kissing him on the forehead, whispering ‘don’t forget to dream of me’ before the door was closed. Steve had to hold you while you screaming into his chest. While Steve and the others went on missions, you stayed in Wakanda and made sure you were there for Bucky when he awoke.
…because the world is ending. Bucky and you shared your last kiss before losing each other on the battlefield a few moments before he saw Steve for the first time in a few years. It was a heated kiss that never seemed to end. But the world was ending, how could you make a kiss last as long as possible? Bucky had been completely hungry for your lips. He wanted you to feel as though it hadn’t been ending. But both of you had to face reality and the fact the world was supposed to be ending.
…because the world is saved. As soon as Bucky came back from being dusted, the first thing he did was find you and kiss you. It didn’t matter that there was a huge fight going around both of you, you were his whole world and there was nothing without him. He was everything that you had ever loved. He loved you so much and you stopped everything just to kiss him. You didn’t care about the fight going on around you. You just wanted to kiss the man you loved after five long years without him. It was the most passionate kiss you two had ever shared.
…out of pride. You were his everything. No matter what you did, he was proud of you. You had won awards from the president for your own bravery. He had always been by your side because you dragged him there to help with his image. He didn’t want to go to these things but you wanted him there and he always was proud of you and didn’t mind posing for a few photos for the press, always sneaking in a kiss or two just to show how proud he was of you. As much as you were proud of him for coming out, he was trillions of times more proud of you for winning the award.
…out of greed. Bucky always loved kissing the absolute shit out of you because he was greedy. He never wanted to have anyone else to have their lips on yours. He loved every second of kissing you. It got to the point where you would use kisses against him. If he was good, he would be allowed to kiss you but if he wasn’t, he would have to go without for a little while. Either way, he hated not being given the chance to kiss you.
…out of lust. Every chance he could, he would be kissing you with the hopes of having you two go to bed. He loved having you under him and being able to kiss you every moment of the day. He loved every second of kissing you out of lust. You didn’t mind it either. He would much rather both of you be kissing for this reason and this reason only. But you didn’t get a lot of time to have these moments. He would have to get both of you alone and that didn’t happen all that often due to missions and such but those times you did get, it was wonderful.
…out of anger. You don’t have a lot of fights. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t have fights at all. Normally it was over petty things like were to eat or what to do that day. When Bucky could feel his own argument begin to slip, he will end up leaning down to kiss you. This wouldn’t happen a lot since you normally ended up agreeing with whatever he wanted to do instead because you just genuinely wanted to see him happy and make sure he got to experience the 21st century as much as possible because you never wanted to see him go back into cryosleep and that’s what most of your arguments were about when it wasn’t as innocent as where to seemed but it always ended up with a kiss.
…out of envy or jealousy. Whenever he caught someone actually trying to work you up without knowing about your very public relationship with Bucky, he would end up getting very jealous. To the point where people would have to hold him back when he gets in a jealous rage. He would be very, very envious. Bucky was the only one who was supposed to flirt with you. He was supposed to be giving you all the new relationship butterflies all over again. He would get very jealous and have to walk up to you and give you one of the biggest kisses in the world because he wants everyone to know that you are his.
…out of spite. People said that Bucky would never have a partner due to the life he led and the fact that he had been labeled a villain by one of the most powerful men in the world. Once he had found you, Bucky had found out that he could be loved by anyone and everyone. He knows that he would end up finding someone eventually but he hadn’t thought it would have been so soon or someone who had the same life he had. He was super stoked and had always ended up kissing you whenever possible just to show people that he had someone to love and that someone loved him back.
…out of habit. Bucky would wrap his arms around your waist and place kisses onto your neck and shoulder. Half the time he didn’t even know he was doing it. He just did it. He loved sneaking up on you and kissing your neck. He did it while you were cooking, while you were showering, while you were doing your hair/makeup. It didn’t matter. Not to either of you. He knew that you oftentimes scolded him for it but only playfully. You both loved it. You were getting kissed by that man at any moment and any time because it was his habit.
…out of necessity. There was not a time when Bucky needed to kiss you. You were like air to him. You were the only thing he ever wanted and needed. You were the only thing he ever woke up too. He was the person who always made sure that you were feeling loved. Every moment of every day, he was kissing you. Every single second, he was making sure that you were loved and that you were kissed. No amount of skin went untouched when he got into one of those kissing fits. You loved it as much as anyone can but this was a necessity to him.
…out of love. He had kissed you out of love every single time that he kissed you. But he would never forget the day he kissed you as his partner and lover for the rest of his life. The day of your wedding was the first time he had really felt all of your love poured into one kiss before. He would never forget that time. It was the day he had married the love of his life. The time that he would never forget because he had finally been able to kiss the person he loved without any boundaries, in front of the people you both loved as well.

Probably unpopular opinion among some of my followers, but I do actually believe Tony in Civil War when he says Steve was his friend. I do think they were friends.
Now, there are different levels of friends. There are ride or die friends like Sam or Nat, who you call when everyone wants to arrest/kill you and you need road trip buddies. And then there are friends like Tony Stark, who you’ll invite over to a party you’re having because he’s fun to hang out with sometimes, but who you will put in a cab at the end of the night once he starts breaking your stuff, pissing in your houseplants, and picking angry fights with the other guests.Still friends, but different friendship tiers.
Seriously though. I think they were friends, in a way. Steve says in his letter to Tony that he has faith in people. He wants to see the best in them. Tony was his last link to Howard, who was in fact, unequivocally, Steve’s friend. Steve would want to keep that link, if possible, and I think he wants to see the best in Tony. Because there is good there, which is also an unpopular opinion among some of my followers, but I think there are often good intentions. Just terrible, terrible execution, buried under a lot of bullshit justifications.
Tony...does not know how to be a good friend. Really don’t think he does, with the exception of Rhodey. Tony would’ve grown up with friends who are more drinking buddies/party companions than anything else. Because the guy sucks at emotional intimacy in general, and because people will happily take advantage of the rich white guy who doesn’t care who comes to his parties, as long as someone does.
Steve probably is one of the strongest friendships Tony has, because he’s a relatively isolated person, who cracks jokes 95% of the time rather than having real, meaningful conversation. And that is sad. Steve’s shown that he can have those deep conversations with people like Nat, Sam and Wanda. Tony can’t really do that with anyone besides Rhodey and Pepper. Emotionally, he’s just not okay, and it keeps him from forming deeper friendships.
So, Steve probably was his friend. Tony probably was Steve’s friend. They were not best friends, they were probably closer to second or third tier friends, but they were indeed friends.
Which yes, makes Steve’s actions of hiding the truth about Tony’s parents shitty. I think he was right in the letter at the end of CW, he was sparing himself, at least partially.
All that said? Bucky wasn’t in control of his actions. Tony knows this. I do not actually blame Tony for being so shocked and angered by the truth that he started the fight. It was a very human reaction, can’t say I’d have done differently.
He is responsible for repeatedly escalating the fight, even when Steve tried to point out that hey, Bucky wasn’t in control, stop this, this is going too far. He is responsible for being so rage-fueled that he was ready to kill his friend.
They were friends. Tony is just, generally speaking, not a very good one, and it was taken to the extreme by the end of that “So was I” scene.

TRIGGER WARNINGS - ATTEMPTED SELF-HARM/SUICIDE- READ WITH CAUTION
For the second time, Levi cried herself into an exhausted sleep and, once she’d slumped unconscious against him, Bucky rose and carried her to the bed, laying her gently down and covering her with the blanket.
The surrealness of what had just happened made his head spin. Levi had meant to kill herself; the gun had been loaded. How much longer would she have sat there before pulling the trigger? How close had Bucky come to losing her forever? Seated on the edge of the bed Bucky bent forwards, burying his face in his hands and fought a rising tide of panic.
He couldn’t do this.
He couldn’t live like this, with the knowledge that a moment’s distraction; a few minutes absence, could give Levi another opportunity to take her life. And more, what right did he have to try to stop her? What deep-seated selfishness was that? To demand another to exist in abject misery just to make life less empty and sorrowful for yourself?
His heart ached with an entirely new pain; one he’d battled months ago, when Levi had still been missing. Back then he’d told Steve that he preferred she die rather than live in such agony; but now, with her back and secure in his arms, his old resolve failed.
Goddammit, he needed Levi more than he needed air.
He was a selfish bastard. He-
Levi stirred, a broken whimper escaping her lips. She was still asleep but, even now, needed him close. Her distress increased, her whimpers becoming more broken and Bucky gave in, lifting the blankets and curling against her, wrapping her tightly in his arms, tangling his legs with hers and burying his face in her neck.
His body calmed her almost instantly, and he murmured soothing noises in her ear, reassurances that he would never leave her, that they would work through this and, by the time Levi relaxed again, the tears clouding Bucky’s eyes had stopped as well.
*****************************************************************************
A strangled scream tore Bucky from sleep and he jerked awake with a hoarse gasp, his heart racing.
“N-no!”
Bucky turned, blinking in the darkness. Somehow, he and Levi had rolled apart, a large swath of mattress between them. Levi lay with her back to him, curled in the fetal position, twitching and jerking.
“No, don’t.... please!” Her voice rose, breaking.
Bucky cursed low under his breath and scrambled to her, pulling Levi against his chest. “Levi, baby-”
Levi screeched like a caged animal, bucking against him and her elbow hit him painfully in the ribs. He grunted but didn’t let go; the bruises she’d inflict in the next few minutes would fade by tomorrow; they always did.
“I’m sorry!” Levi wailed, but Bucky knew the apology wasn’t for him; it was for the specters in her nightmares, the ghosts that haunted and stalked her dreams, the souls she’d taken as HYDRA’s pawn. If they were anything like the ghosts of Bucky’s nightmares, then they were relentless; stalking shadows; unswerving and unavoidable, suffocating as they closed in on you, demanding blood in garbled, grave-hoarsened rasps.
“Levi, it’s me.” Bucky whispered, fighting his rising panic. Since being brought out of cryofreeze, Levi suffered from nightmares and terrors occasionally broken up by fits of exhausted sleep. Rather than the occasional bad dream, she now experienced only the occasional rest.
Most times; Bucky was enough to pull her out of her terrors. Sometimes just his voice was enough, and he’d lay beside her and talk, stroke her sweaty hair back from her forehead as he murmured soothingly. Other times, he needed to hold her, wrap himself around her and almost shout her out of her dreams. He’d call her name with increasing urgency, heart rate rising with growing fear until he seemed to break through her terror, until she could hear him, feel him around her. She’d tremble for hours after, clinging to Bucky like a life raft in the middle of the ocean and he’d croon to her, murmur and hum her favorite songs until, absolutely wasted, beyond exhausted, she would sleep.
But she’d terrified Bucky, twice now. Even his most desperate pleas had failed to rouse Levi, and she’d twisted helplessly, keening in anguished panic, completely beyond even Bucky’s reach. Both times Bucky’d had to call the T’Challa’s physician, both times the only way to bring Levi out of her prison was to sedate her, drag her down almost to a coma to free her mind from the claws of the memories that threatened to take her.
Both times, Bucky had sat with Levi’s unconscious body, holding her hand and wondering if Levi would be able to find her way out of her hell. He’d stalked in behind her as far as he could, but there were places even he could not follow; places carved out during her four years conscious under cryofreeze, shadows formed that would never completely be extinguished, born from HYDRA’s rape of Levi’s whole being.
Bucky prayed desperately that this wasn’t one of those times, that Levi would hear him, feel him holding her and that it would be enough. Her screams were heart-rending; the pain in them so much deeper than mere physical discomfort, this was soul-deep agony and anguish was a sharp knife in Bucky’s heart because he couldn’t save her from this, he could only be there to hold the shattered pieces. "Levi! Baby, wake up!”
Levi jolted in his arms, like she’d been electrocuted and Bucky could feel her heart almost exploding in her chest, beating a frantic, manic tattoo that a normal, unenhanced organ would be unable to achieve. Sweat dampened her skin and she shuddered, a full-body tremble without end. Her screams choked off, replaced by a distraught gasping.
“Levi, can you hear me?” Bucky whispered tentatively. There had been times when he’d managed to pull her from the nightmare, only for Levi to fall instantly asleep again or, frighteningly, be simply too stunned to reply.
“Bucky-” her voice broke and Bucky tightened his arms around her, rested his cheek to hers and began to croon; a slow song drawn out into a lullaby.
*********************************************************************************
The sun was hot on Bucky’s shoulders but he reveled in it. After years of Siberian cold, the sun was always welcome. Levi’s shoulders were already growing pink as she hiked ahead of him, a thin trail of sweat beginning to show down her spine, darkening her red tank-top to oxblood. Her hips swayed in denim cut-offs and Bucky’s body tightened with unanswered need. He could not, would not try to force her affections, force her into anything she wasn’t completely ready for, but goddammit, it was growing hard, no pun intended.
The last weeks had been a mingling of hope and shattering defeat.
At times, Levi seemed almost successful at making progress, at taking a few steps forward and overcoming her crushing guilt; then something would slip, some dark thought would consume her and she’d tumble right back down her abyss of anguish.
There were days when she was able to articulate her grief, tell Bucky about the crippling pain and sorrow, how the knowledge that she’d murdered hundreds clawed at her very soul, and other days were she could not bring herself to speak at all, or to eat, or do anything but sit in a dark corner of her palace rooms with a thousand yard stare, not hearing Bucky as he sat near her, trying to draw her back out.
Bucky shuddered remembering the scene that had slapped him in the face almost a week ago. He’d brought a tray of food back to the room to find Levi nowhere in sight, the bathroom door closed. He'd given her a minute of privacy, but when Levi hadn’t appeared, he’d approached the door, knocked tentatively.
“Levi?”
There was no answer, then, a stifled sob.
“Levi?!” He tried the knob, locked. Gritting his teeth, panic beginning to curl ice-cold fingers around his heart, he slammed his synthetic shoulder into the door, splintering it open with a bang.
Levi was seated on the lowered toilet seat; she didn’t even seem to notice Bucky’s dramatic entrance.
“Levi!” The sharp tang of blood was unmistakable now and Bucky lunged at Levi, grabbed her shoulders as he babbled in startled panic, heart pounding in his chest. He’d hidden his gun, all the knives-
Levi had a pair of metal scissors, spread open and, as Bucky watched in stunned horror, dragged the edge along the inside of her bare thigh. Blood welled and trickled down her pale skin and, when the cut’s length matched the several already there, she lifted the blade and began a new line, pressing harder. Her face showed no emotion, but tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Jesus, baby!” Bucky roared, equal parts horrified and angry. He snatched the scissors from her hands and threw them across the room, dimly registering the shattering of a picture. Falling to his knees in front of her he grabbed her shoulders and shook her.
“Why? Baby, why?” HIs anger was suddenly overshadowed by panic and, letting go of her shoulders he pried her thighs wider, ran shaking fingers down her skin, trying to see the extent of damage through his own terrified tears. Both creamy thighs, thighs Bucky had spent countless hours between, kissing and worshiping, caressing with reverent fingers, thighs that had cushioned and embraced him as he drove inside her, were abused, marred by vertical wounds; none bled to extremes, but all were deep enough to weep crimson and patter slow drops on the floor. Looking up he saw Levi staring at him, through him, her gaze blank but far from vacant. She knew what she was doing, what she’d already done. She’d not moved since Bucky tore the scissors away, her hands still clasped together in front of her.
Bucky gave into his horrified sorrow and dropped his head as tears ripped through him. He pressed kisses to her thighs, kisses not of worship and adoration, of never-ending love but of desperation; frenetic investigation of the marred and torn flesh, uncaring of the blood and mess, frantic only to touch her, to soothe the pain.
“Baby... baby. Oh god, why?” He babbled between kisses, between sobs. Lifting his head, he let go of her legs and cupped her face, needing her to really look at him. “Levi, please?!”
Levi blinked; eyes slow to meet his. Awareness was rapidly overtaken by pain, and shame.
“I-” she whispered, voice breaking. “I just wanted to-” Tears were diluting the blood Bucky’s hands had smeared across her cheeks. “I just w-wanted to feel something else-” she sagged in Bucky’s grip, in defeat. “I’m tired of the pain-”
The wounds had faded, healed rapidly and you would not be able to see anything marring Levi’s skin now, save for faint pinkish lines, but the image of her dragging the scissors across her tender flesh, of the blood welling, of the blankness in her eyes still haunted Bucky constantly.
They walked now, for hours at a time. Few words were exchanged and Bucky was reduced most times to simply following Levi as she hiked aimlessly; but then she’d find a place that appealed to her: a shady spot under an enormous, ancient tree; a nest of boulders near a watering hole, and Levi would stop for a while and sit. Sometimes she’d talk, others times not. But she would always take the hand Bucky offered her when he sat beside her.
Bucky tentatively viewed these long hikes as progress. Levi’s explorations in the first weeks had been anemic, never venturing far, but since Bucky had found her cutting herself in the bathroom, something seemed to have broken free in her, an almost frenetic impulse to move. Her pale skin was beginning to tan, her shorn hair starting to wink copper in the sun and she seemed almost interested in her surroundings again.
Levi stopped on a shelf of boulders and sat cross-legged. They’d visited this waterhole before, but had sat on the other side. A dying tree shaded them here and an assortment of animals mingled near the edge of the water, glancing up at the new visitors with faint alarm, relaxing again when they both simply sat. Bucky settled beside Levi, stretching his legs out in front of him. He’d stumbled a half-mile back or so, abrading his shin and winced when the skin pulled around the forming scab. Although she’d not rebuffed him yet, he still extended his hand to her with some hesitation, exhaling when she took it without comment. Today Levi laced her fingers with his and rested them in her lap, using her other hand to trace their connected fingers lightly.
“Thank you.” She murmured, almost inaudible.
Not expecting her to speak, Bucky startled slightly. “What?”
Levi turned her head to gaze timidly at him but she looked away in embarrassment when his eyes met hers. “I said... thank you. I’m a goddamn mess but you’re still here... so, thank you.”
Bucky squeezed her hand. “Anything for you.”
“I don’t deserve-”
“Stop it.” Bucky clamped down on his frustration. This was not her fault. “It’s not your fault. You were made into a weapon. It was beyond wrong and fucked-up but you are not to blame.”
“All those people-”
“Are just as much victims as you are. Would you have done any of that if you were in your right mind? If you hadn’t been tortured and brain-washed?” He waited until Levi reluctantly shook her head. “No. HYDRA did this and if you give into this guilt and shame, if you let this rule you, then they win. I would do anything for you, baby. Anything but let you go. You’re not a monster and you’re not a killer. This wasn’t you, don’t let it define you.” Bucky broke off, holding his breath.
Levi exhaled, staring straight ahead. After a long minute, she sighed. “It’s hard.”
“You’re strong.” Bucky countered.
“And you won’t leave me?” There was a heart-breaking apprehension in her voice, a plea.
“Never.”
Levi turned her head again and while there were tears trailing hot down her cheeks, Bucky saw a new resolve burning in her amethyst eyes too.

True Colors Chapter 2
After all these years you couldn’t believe your old uniform still fit...sure it was a little snug in some areas, but hey, you weren’t exactly in highschool anymore, what else did you expect? You could feel your heart pounding in your chest and your stomach flipping as you paced the floor of the tower, waiting for the living legend himself...Captain America. You never planned on this being your life, you never WANTED to be a superhero...but when Steve Rogers needs help with something how exactly could anyone say no? Besides, you were all for this free the heroes movement going on, and for good reason. You’ve seen all this before, lived this all before. The Sokovia Accords was just the Mutant Registration Act 2.0. Too bad you didn’t hold enough sway to actually speak up about it to anyone who really mattered.
“Alright Tony, what is it you wanted to talk about?” You heard echoing through the hall as the star spangled man himself entered the room. You stood with your back as straight as you could make it, holding your breath without realizing.
“Steve, I would like to introduce to you a long time friend of mine.” He gestured to you. “This is (Y/N).” You both watched as Steve folded his arms and quirked a brow. “Look, I know I was in the wrong...Let the two of us at least help make things as right as we can.”
Your heart stopped as Steve’s blue eyes looked over you. In the back of your mind you knew this was one of those life changing moments. “No offence ma’am, but you don’t exactly look combat ready.”
The corners of your lips tugged downward as you looked over yourself. “I don’t think I see what you mean Captain. This suit was designed by someone arguably smarter than Mr. ‘Too many character flaws to be considered a hero’ over here. Lined with nacre...I’m probably more combat ready than half of your team was.” You watched Tony’s brow rise when you mentioned the material as he began poking at the iridescent patches of armor wondering just how they were able to make it flexible enough to wear as a suit yet as strong as you boasted.
“I admire your intentions here ma’am, but having a fancy suit doesn’t mean you’re ready to head into a battle.” Steve’s ocean blue eyes stared into you then over to Tony. “Some of us learned that the hard way. How is Rhodey anyway?”
“Well, making a nice recovery with the help of some of my genius.” And then what you said finally clicked in his brain. “And wait a minute! Who exactly are you hanging out with that is smarter than me?” You couldn’t help but chuckle, letting him stew in that question as long as possible.
“This isn’t funny! And it isn’t a game!” Cap scolded, his eyes growing harsher. “Tony they are in that oceanic hell hole because of you. I’m not going to allow you to send in some untrained girl just because she’s been outfitted with new tech. Especially with the Accords still in place. Breaking them once they are signed is just as bad as not signing them at all.”
“Okay, first of all...From what I’ve been hearing in the mutant community, this,” you tugged at the material you wore, “is actually old news. Second,” you paused letting your hands glow hot and bright, “yes I said I’m a mutant,” that fact didn’t seem to phase him, “and I’ve been trained by some of the best.” Finished showing off you let the glow die down as you bent the light in the room around you to demonstrate exactly why you were brought on for this mission. Fully concealed from sight you stepped around Cap as he searched the room for any trace of you. “The great thing about light is that it pretty much controls everything we see. You want to get into that base undetected, I’m pretty much the best chance that you’ve got.” You paused as you reappeared behind him. “Oh, and who ever said I signed the Accords? I’ll be going in rogue just like you. And once everyone is out I’ll be helping you keep it that way.” You watched as a boyish smile crept onto Steve’s face. He had to admit that this did seem like a pretty bulletproof plan. Of course that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to take a moment to consider all of the pros and cons before finally agreeing.
~ ~ ~ ~
The plan was simple, and went over well. With your talents you and Steve remained out of sight as you both worked your way through the highest of high security prisons. It was too bad the bubble of where your powers of light bending for the sake of invisibility was so small...years of being out of practice...You made a mental note to work on that. But it did mean that as the two of you got to the final floor while you were busy being the unseen force beating on the poor defenseless security guards Steve moving closer to the cells brought him into full view. But at least by the time this happened the only ones left conscious was the ones you were here to rescue.
“So where’s your friend?” You asked letting the cloak of invisibility down.
“Well that’s a cool trick.” Clint muttered as he watched the rescue.
“Not...here…” Steve answered sounding more than a bit concerned for Bucky’s safety.
“He’s in there.” Clint offered as he pointed to a door on the other side of the room. “Been keeping him on ice.”
“(Y/N), will that light thing you do work on that?” Steve asked as the two of you make quick work of opening the cell doors. “I doubt they made it as easy as just press this button.” As he spoke you began to wonder if the charm of that smile was a 40s thing or something unique to only Steve Rogers.
“Yeah,” you nodded, “well, umm I can try I suppose. I never tried using it like that before.” You made your way into the room looking around, praying that there would just be a button that said ‘press me to thaw out the walking communist weapon.’...There wasn’t one. Plenty of little buttons you’d apparently have to push in just the right order to start the thawing process the safe way. Looks like it was all up to Light Girl….no, that’s a terrible superhero name...Rainbow Girl? Nah that one’s taken...something for you to work on later. Everyone seemed to hover over you as you concentrate the light finding just the right wavelength to bring the Winter Soldier back to life, but you knew you had to be careful, go slow and test the frequency of the light waves over his prosthetic first for less of a chance to hurt him. “This could take a while...maybe get the exit plan going while we wait?” You suggested, feeling rather uncomfortable with everyone looming over you like that. The eventual move of metal fingers was definitely a promising sign that you weren’t actually killing the poor guy. Ice fell from metal in chunks before finally the soldier burst free, metal hand clamping tightly around your neck.
“Who are you? What do you want?” He growled, icy eyes digging into your soul as you gasped for air.
“I…” you gagged, “I’m with Steve.” The bitter sting of metallic fingers one by one released you, letting the air once again reach your lungs...You heard rumors of his strength...never thought you would experience it first hand. “Wonderful way to thank someone.” You half scolded as you gulped in sweet sweet air. “Come on, he’s upstairs.” You added with a bitter tone as you rubbed your neck, feeling the bruises already beginning to form where he gripped you.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Part 1 , Part 2
It was very hot in Lagos... You where with Wanda, a girl that Steve met in one of his missions, at first you were scared of her because of her powers, but now you are good friends. "what do you see?" you hear Steve though the intercom. "everything is quiet" Wanda says. "i'm sure Rumlow is near" you say looking subtly around you. "We have been behind him for 6 months , we won't lose him...Sam, follow that red garbage truck" Steve says. "I'm scanning it.... It has explosives and the driver is armed" Sam adds. "let's go now" Steve says already moving. "whait what?" wanda ask. "he's not going to the police" Steve says.
"he's going to the institute of infectious diseases" you say starting to run. You hear the gun shots before seeing the mountain of smoke from the explosion. You ,Steve and Wanda run towards the armed men while Sam protects your backs. Steve is thrown by Wanda towards the building, while the rest take care of the agents. "Rumlow has a biological weapon" you hear Steve say through the intercom. "I'm on it" you say running to the other exit. You had to fight against five agents before you get to him, or rather until he comes to you. He takes you by the neck making breathing difficult, you kick him between the legs. "That doesn't work with me anymore" he says hitting your face. "I have other tricks" you give him a shock in the neck as Nat had taught you. It works but only for a few seconds, Rumlow throws you to the ground and your head hits the ground when you hear Steve's voice. "Rumlow!!" Steve yells his name and for Rumlow it's as if you disappeared, all his attention was on Steve. Rumlow start shooting at him and your heart stops when you hear Rumlow laugh. "Steve?Steve!!" you say on the intercom desperate to hear his voice. "I'm fine, we can't lose him, Sam do you know where he is?" Steve says. "They are in the market, I don't know who has the virus" Sam says while flying. Steve and you run to the market, right now you wanted to have Wanda's powers so you wouldn't have to run. Sam and Wanda takes care of the other soldiers while you and Steve take care of Rumlow.
"He got rid of his equipment" Steve says when he finds Rumlow's suit on the floor. You look at the people around you when you see him, Rumlow was ready to hit Steve with his metal fist. "No" You push Steve to the ground just in time to keep Rumlow from hitting him, but not enough to dodge him. When the metal hits your stomach you feel several ribs breaking, leaving you breathless. "I've been waiting for this" Rumlow yells fighting Steve. You try to get up and help Steve but you can barely breathe. "load secured" Sam says though the intercom. "Who's your buyer? "Steve has Rumlow on the floor on his knees. "you know him, your friend, your Bucky" he says and you see how Steve loses his concentration. "What did you just say? where is he?!" Steve yells this time. "i was there, he cried, they make him forget again" Rumlow says smiling with Steve's suffering. "i'm going to go.... and you... your coming with me" he says taking something out of the pocket.
Your eyes suddenly open when you see what it is, you don’t have time to react when there is a big explosion, you expect to feel pain, but Wanda has moved the explosion towards one of the buildings. You feel relief until you hear people screaming. The building was full of civilians. "Sam we need firefighters on the south side of the building now" Steve says in shock until his eyes focus on you, you have to look horrible for his reaction "Y/N are okay?" he ask worried. "i'm fine, go! help them" you say and it seems that he want to stay but he knows, they need him. Wanda stays with you, although it seems that she needs more support than you do, she's devastated.
The news won't stop talking about it. How the avengers are dangerous, all the chaos that their missions entail. "Wanda, don't watch the news" you say sitting by his side. "all of this is my fault" Wanda says. "it's not" You say trying to calm her down. "Look at the news, they make it very clear"
"I should have noticed the explosives before you" Steve says leaning on the door. "Steve..." you start to say. "He said Bucky and suddenly I was a 16-year-old boy in Brooklyn again and... people die and it's on me" he says. "in me to..." Wanda adds. "this job... we tried to save as many people as we can and sometimes that doesn't mean everybody... everything will be fine, you'll see" You hug Wanda before going to your room with Steve.
"How are you feeling?" Steve says hugging you from behind once in your room. "ready to fight again" with Stark's technology, you only have a little discomfort in the ribs "don't blame yourself for this Steve" "I need to find him..." he says with sadness in his eyes. "I know" you caress his face "and we will" you kiss him. Steve lengthens the kiss surrounding you with his arms when Vision appears through the wall. "Vision! We have already talk about this, you have to use the doors" Steve says moving away from you, you've been together for a year and he still turns red when someone sees you kissing. "I'm sorry, we have a visit" he says "i'll use the door this time" "lets see who it is" Steve says kissing you again before leaving the room.
The visit was the secretary of state, nothing good was going to come out of this meeting, you already knew it before you sat down but you didn't expect what he had prepared for the team. Everyone starts arguing about whether to sign or not, those are the options. If you sign they will control your life, and if you don't sign, you became a fugitive. You have two days to decide.
"what do you think?" Tony asks you. "I understand you Tony, i really do but... let others decide if we should act? What happens if there's a war and they don't let us go?" you say in the meeting. "after what happened with Shield, how do we know that won't happen again?" Steve adds. "if we don't do this now, it's going to be done later, that's the fact" Stark says. Everyone is still arguing when Steve receives a message and the pain in his eyes tells you everything you need to know. She's gone. "I have to go" Steve gets up and leaves the room. "Steve..." you say in the hall "i'm sorry" you hug him. "she's gone" he says still in your arms. "when is the funeral?" you ask. "tomorrow in London" he says with tears in his eyes. "Come on, we have a plane to take" you say. "you will come with me?" he says. "I won't leave you alone" you caress his face , "I don't know what I would do without you" he says kissing your forehead.
There was a lot of people at the funeral, Peggy was an amazing woman, Steve had taken you to meet her at the hospital. She made you promise that you would take care of Steve and that it's a promise you were going to keep. "are you okay?" you ask him when it was over. "yeah...Thanks for being here" He says hugging you. "Always” you kiss his cheek “I just saw Nat, she left to sign the accords in Vienna" you say. "I know, she tried to convince me to go with her" he says. "guys i'm going to the hotel, do you wanna come?" Sam asks. "yeah... it's been a long day" you say hugging Steve. Apparently it was going to be even longer. A bomb has exploded in Vienna.
"I just talked to Nat, everyone is fine" you say. "The news says that it has been your friend Bucky" Sam says. "that's impossible, he would never..." he says watching the tv. "Steve..." you start to say. "we need to find him" he says. "Steve we have been trying..." You've been searching for him for a year but nothing, it's impossible to find him. "but now everyone is looking for him, it's going to be easier" Sam adds. "Y/N if they find him, they are going to kill him, i can't let that happend" Steve says pleading with his eyes. "I need a laptop" It's the only thing you say before you set out to locate Bucky's location.
"He doesn't have much furniture in here..." You say seeing his little apartment. "Everything is set to defend himself against an attack" Steve says looking on how the apartment is set. "He knows that everyone is looking for him, Shield, Hydra... you" On the table there is a diary and inside it's a picture of Steve as captain America. "Sam it's all clear?" Steve ask. "all clear" Sam says. Suddenly Steve tenses up and turns to the door, the winter soldier is home. "do you remember me?" Steve ask to his friend. "you're Steve, i read about you at the museum" he says without approaching. "we have problems, they're here" Sam says though the intercom. "they have come for you Buck" Steve says. "I wasn't in Vienna, i don't do that anymore" You can see in his eyes that it's true, he's innocent. "well the people who think you did it, they are coming for you" you say speaking for the first time. "This doesn't have to end in a fight Buck" "it always ends in a fight" he says moving his metal fingers. "You took him out of the river, why?" you say "i don't know" he simply says. "yes you do" Steve says, and then the fight starts.
Several agents enter through the window and through the door ready to kill Bucky, he takes care of those in the door while you and Steve take care of the men in the window. Bucky is not exactly careful not to kill the agents which makes Steve go behind him, preventing him from killing agents who only carry out orders, you just try to keep them bussy for as long as possible to give them time to escape.
"Guys? We have a man with some kind of cat suit chasing Bucky on the roof" Sam informs. Steve was already jumping to the other building to help his friend. "Sam, i need a ride" you say. Sam appears seconds later and grabs you by the waist before flying. from the air you start shooting to the cat man(¿?) but his suit protects him from the bullets. And then it is when the persecution begins. Bucky tries to escape from that man, Steve goes behind them while you and Sam chase them while trying to prevent the agents from catching them. When it seems that all of you are going to be able to escape, War machine appears to avoid it. "surrender now" Rhodey says. You are surrounded, you have no other option, so you raise your hands in surrender "congratulations Captain, you're a fugitive now"
"What's going to happen now with Bucky?" Steve ask when you arrived to the base. "the same thing that will happened to all of you, psychological evaluation and extradition" a man in a suit says. "what about a lawyer?" you say. "lawyer... that's funny" the man laughs as if you had told a joke. Steve can't stop looking in Bucky's direction, he is tied to a chair with his eyes fixed on the ground. He seems to have accepted his fate. "he is alive" you say to reassure him. In response he squeezes your hand.
Stark was waiting in the room and he looked angry. "this is what I wanted to avoid! Now you are criminals, how am I going to clean your images?" he says. "He is innocent" Steve says looking at Tony. "he has to prove it in court" Tony says.
"you know he won't go to trial, he will be condemned just for being the winter soldier" Steve says raising his voice. "he killed people" Tony shouts. "so did you in the past" Steve adds and Tony takes a deep breath to calm him down. "Y/N can i talk to you? Alone" Tony says and you enter with him into the room. "Tony, I know this is not what you want but ..." "No, this is not what i want, what i want is for all of you to sign the accords so that we can be a team" "He won't sign them, he would be selling his freedom" you try to explain. "He will do it if you ask him, if you sign them, he will follow you, you know that" Tony says and you can't believe what he's asking you to do. "I won't do that, he has the right to choose" "Then...there's nothing I can do" "There is one thing that maybe... can make him change his mind" You think very well before deciding to ask for it. "what?" "Barnes..." you say. "No" "Tony, have him released, he is innocent" you beg him. "you don't know that!!" Tony shouts. "I saw it in his eyes, he's tired of fighting, of running away" "Even if they won't blame him for Vienna, he's the damn Winter soldier, he has killed a lot of people" Tony says trying to convince you. "He's just a victim Tony, Hydra forced him to do it" "I can't do anything for him" "you can't or you don't want to?" you say looking him in the eyes. "Talk to Rogers, signing the accords it's the only way you get out of this" and the next thing you hear is the door slamming shut.
"What did he want?" Steve says entering the room. "he wanted me to convince you to sign" Steve doesn't seem surprised "I told him that that won't happen" you say and then, the lights go out. "what happend?" Sam says. "Buck" Steve says before running. You and Sam follow him, although slower. When you get to the interrogation room you see the psychologist on the floor and Steve and Bucky fighting.
"what did you do?" Sam grabs the psycologist by the neck. "what needed to be done" he says. "for what?" you ask and then you are thrown against the wall. Sam is next to be thrown against the ground. Steve grabs Bucky by the neck to keep him away from you.
“I take care of him” Sam chases the psychologist, you need to know why he has done it. "Steve!" When you finally get up, you see how Bucky throws Steve through the elevator shaft "Shit" you just called Bucky's attention to you. You start running towards the stairs, but Bucky is too fast. He takes you by the neck "At least you could remember me" you say. When you are about to lose consciousness, he drops you to the ground. "Y/N" You hear your name while you catch your breath. You don’t need to look up to know who is shouting your name "you're okay?" Steve touches your face to make sure you're fine. "yes... up the stairs, he's going to the roof" you say pointing the way "you have to find him, Sam and I will see you in the warehouse" He stares at you before running to the roof.
I hope you liked it!
