I have a list of highly underrated shows and National Treasure: Edge of History is very high on that list.
The National Treasure movies were an amazing exploration of United States history. The show is that - but focused on Indigenous (North) American history. It is chaotic and explorative of the dynamics of governmental power against history. It is fun and exciting and had me on my toes the whole time.
If you are into:
- National Treasure movies
- Aztec, Mayan, and/or Incan history
- A big mystery
- Puzzles
And so much more, then this movie is for you.
The Catherine Zeta-Jones feature as a primary antagonist in every single episode was absolutely a highly for all those interested. Justin Bertha (Riley Poole from the OG movies) makes a fascinating entrance as well.
But really, it was the primary cast (ESPECIALLY Lisette Olivera who played my girl Jess) that set the tone of the show. It is a show featuring young adults going on adventures, delving into family histories, and I can not say enough about how this show deserved so much more success. Highly recommend. If I had Rich Person money, I would dump so much of it into a second season.

lmao people mad about the National Treasure EoH show being corny, boring, or not meeting full expectations on writing... have you never seen the movies? lol That’s what it’s all about! It’s the same producer, same score composer, same vibes, same roles. And it’s great lol
Look, as someone who heavily hyperfixated on the movies to the point I had a self-insert oc (I was in love with Riley okay :’D), a full fanfic involving said self-insert, could quote every scene of the movies by heart in the shower for funsies, watched the movies like every day when both came out on DVD, countless fanart, a few Abigail x Ben shipping videos on youtube, and had a large poster collection... I absolutely loved this show and can’t wait for season 2. Does it not make sense? Is it corny? Does it have mediocre writing and predictable twists and turns? ABSOLUTELY. And that’s all part of it’s charm lol
It’s like reading cozy fantasy books. It’s just easy escapism. A little adventure and history to push your nerd buttons, but you have the comfort of knowing it’ll all turn out okay in the end and wrap up a little too nicely. It’s not everyone’s taste, but it isn’t exactly bad either.

The thing about National Treasure, is that the villain has always had a cultural tie to the historic aggressors from whom the treasure was hidden.
In the first film, Ian was British and the treasure had been hidden by the Founding Fathers to keep the British out.
In Book of Secrets, Mitch was a white man from the South and it had been the confederacy who were looking for the gold.
But in Edge of History, they appeared to have broken this pattern. Billy is British while the historic bad guys for the Maya, Inca, and Aztecs were the Spanish Conquistadors.
However (series spoilers under the cut)
in episode 9 it was revealed that Agent Hendricks was the mastermind Salazar.
The actor who plays Hendricks is Armando Riesco and he's Puerto Rican.
While I don't know if Riesco has any Indigenous ancestry, I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility to assume that Salazar's lineage could just be Spanish.
Thus, the pattern has been maintained throughout the franchise afterall!
