holy shit watching ruby manipulate sam in 4x09 is fucking heartbreaking.

this boy just lost his brother half a year ago. he’s drunk 24/7, an emotional wreck, suicidal, driven by anger and guilt, and constantly burdened with the fact that he INDIRECTLY KILLED the most important person in his life who is now BURNING IN HELL.

he just tried to offer his own soul to take dean’s place and was told that it wasn’t worth anything. he spends his nights in abandoned buildings because being in a motel without dean probably hurts too much. he is literally at rock bottom. he’s willing to die to bring dean back. hell, he’s willing to die just to avenge him. he’s in so much damn pain that he’s ACTIVELY trying to kill himself.

and ruby comes onto him? tells him how good she can make him feel, that she can make him feel better, that he just has to trust her. and he says NO. he says, i can’t, and pushes her away not once but TWICE. but ruby just keeps pushing. guilt trips him again. asks him if its so bad because she’s a demon, and sam must think, hell, i’m a demon too, i’m a monster, i killed my own brother, i’m worse than her.

even dean could see that this was manipulation. and sam immediately played the “but it’s okay because she saved my life”. and knowing how their relationship with ruby ends… man it hurts. it really hurts.

sam winchester has had his head fucked with so goddamn often and i don’t know how he even has it on straight anymore.

I constantly think about the fact that sam was the good one in the family, the more empathetic and moral one, yet he was the devil’s vessel; while dean, who was more explosive and impetuous, was michael’s sword. all this while sam had a demon by his side, and dean, an angel. however, even though sam was hell’s prince or whatever, he still needed something to actually corrupt him (ruby, the demon blood), while even though dean was the righteous man, he was the one that ultimately was doing the corruption (made castiel fall and made him rebel against heaven and God Himself). “The very touch of you corrupts. When Castiel first laid a hand on you in hell, he was lost.” this plus dean being dad’s perfect soldier and sam the favorite rebellious son, which sealed their destiny: it could’ve only been them in the end, the perfect lucifer and michael.

Also I can't stop thinking about how Anna was supposed to parallel Ruby in terms of being the angel on Dean's shoulder pulling him away from his brother, but ultimately only did that insofar as she also proved to be an enemy who had to be put down eventually (though not by Sam or Dean and not in at all the same manner literally or narratively). Meanwhile Cas is the actual angel tugging Dean away from Sam in season 4 but ultimatrly defects and joins the family only to later become a parallel to Sam's endgame love interest, Eileen. Like. What are we supposed to do with that?!

it’s so funny to me how anakin skywalker and sam winchester are the same person. i mean, the premonitions of the girl they love dying for a while before it happens. both have fathers that disappear (although john was there in Sam’s childhood and only lived for a while after Sam quit college but he was just as bad if not worse than anakin’s father based on the way we’ve seen john treat his kids) and not to mention both of their mothers died. they both put their faith in their brother (sam’s brother being biological and i’m just called obi-wan anakins brother cause that’s how obi-wan sees him) who have been hunting or being a jedi longer than they had. and sam is set on finding the thing that killed his girlfriend and his mother so he could live a normal life again and anakin is determined to save his girlfriend before she dies so they could live a "normal" life with their kids. while anakin and padme were already married, sam was planning on marrying jess before she died and had gone ring shopping before. at some point along the way, they put their trust in the complete wrong person. anakin trusted palpatine (a sith) and sam trusted ruby(a demon). palpatine made anakin join the dark side and kill a shit ton of people including jedis and ruby (while was teaching him how to exorcise demons with his mind) was making him drink her demon blood, causing him to go down a dark path and (almost) become a demon himself. both had told them that what they were doing was right/for the best. and once these idiots realized that what they did was wrong, anakin and sam killed palpatine and ruby. but that didn’t change much because sam was still addicted to demon blood which blew out into a whole different thing and anakin was still technically darth vader but he died soon anyway so…

back to dean and obi-wan… when they found out what their brother had done, they both tried to stop them and bring them back to the good side (both failed ofc). and obi-wan tells anakin that he became the thing that he swore to destroy and dean tells sam that if he didn’t know him, he’d wanna hunt him (also i think someone said something like obi-wan’s like at some point i just don’t remember lol) but they both gave the same idea of sam and anakin turning into what they used to kill/hunt. and the miscommunication is strong as hell. i mean dean was gone for like four months i think??? when he was in hell and that’s why sam relied on ruby so much and anakin couldn’t tell anyone about him and padme, he confided in palpatine since he wasn’t a jedi which left dean and obi-wan in the dark to what was happening so they couldn’t stop what happened to them.

i’m kind of all over the place but going back to when they were kids, they were kind of thrown into the life that had to live. even though anakin wanted to be a jedi, he still had to give up his life on tatooine, leaving behind his mother, so he could be a jedi and sam (who’s mother’s death was the reason they got thrown into the life of a hunter) had no choice. they both had to give up what could’ve been a normal life and when they finally thought they had one, things only got worse.

also the fucking sass both of them can have sometimes. like anakin literally insulting the guy (well, robot that apparently has a heart so idk what to classify general grievous as) that was about to kill him and sam does the same thing.

this post was just random cause i just finished watching revenge of the sith and i was watching supernatural yesterday and i had to write this down somewhere

How funny is it that Supernatural wanted to replace Castiel with Anna as the angel to guide Dean through the Apocalypse. And Dean and hers romance would parallel that of Sam and Ruby's. But Cas was too popular. And beloved. So they killed Anna and left Cas. And so Cas and Dean's relationship ended up paralleling Sam and Ruby's roman-- [gunshots]

How is it canon when it’s unrequited u make no sense whatsoever is it delusion or memes

first of all- 'unrequited' means distinctly not returned. Dean's stunned lack of response in the moment was not a rejection of Cas' feelings, and should not be considered as such. therefore, Destiel cannot be considered unrequited.

second of all- Cas' love for Dean has been confirmed many times on multiple different occasions, by both Misha and Jensen themselves, as well as Robert Berens, to be romantic love. that is not up for interpretation. based on that fact alone, it is canon. whether or not Dean's feelings are ever explicitly and/or verbally expressed does not change the fact that Castiel is canonically in love with Dean Winchester. that makes it c a n o n.

third of all- the fact that Dean's feelings have not yet been verbally confirmed is of very little consequence when compared to the monumental amount of very compelling evidence suggesting that he does, in fact, return Cas' feelings, even if Dean himself hadn't yet realized it at the time of the confession.

if you have watched this show and actually picked up on the frankly staggering amount of very clear context clues, it is quite obvious that, aside from his brother, Castiel is the most important person in Dean's life, full stop.

i don't have the patience right now to list every single instance that suggests Dean's feelings for Cas are mutual; there are far too many. but i will remind you of the most significant ones:

when Cas died in the s12 finale, Dean mourned that loss unlike he had done with any other character death up to that point in the series, and the way in which Dean grieved Cas was very purposefully portrayed in such an undeniably different way than how Sam grieved Cas. even the loss of his mother seemed to almost pale in comparison to the immense weight of Cas' sudden absence in Dean's life. Dean mourned Cas like a spouse rather than like a brother or family member; it is known as the 'widower arc' for a reason.

Dean was nearly suicidal up until the very moment he learned that Cas had come back. when Cas inevitably returned, the sudden change in Dean's demeanor was so immediately apparent and extreme, it gave Sam whiplash.

in the final seasons, Dean no longer showed much if any interest in having any romantic or sexual partners, a stark contrast to earlier seasons. the last committed relationship he had was with Lisa, which was quite a few years prior. this is in direct contrast to Sam, who had several romantic love interests over the course of the show (Jess, Madison, Ruby, Amelia, Eileen). the role of closest person to Dean other than Sam was always filled by Cas, the only difference being the lack of romantic label.

Dean and Cas' relationship has been directly paralleled in multiple different instances with canonically romantic couples, the most significant ones being: Sam and Jess, Cain and his wife Collette, John and Mary (during the widower arc), and Sam and Eileen in the final season.

additionally, directly following Cas being taken by the empty, Sam's attempts to call Dean were completely ignored, despite Dean knowing that his brother needed confirmation that he was alive. the sole thing occupying Dean's mind at that moment was Castiel; nothing else in the world mattered.
