I am a very honest person, if you ask for my help, I won't beat around the bush. I will tell you how it is and offer you a solution on how to fix it (sometimes people don't like that tho...). I have exceptionally strong work ethic, and I tend to see things from multiple perspectives. I generally have very strong morals, and I'm a lawful person. I try to be decent and understanding.

The memory of a fish, you're talking to me? You better make sure I'm listening because I tend to zone out and listen to the static inside my head X'D. DO NOT DISRUPT MY ROUTINE, I am a creature of habit and I will become unreasonably angry when it's disturbed. Sensory overload will also make me unreasonably angry. Antisocial as fuck, don't tend to reach out to people because I'm hopeless at it, and I also suck at talking about myself. I'm boring as fuck lol. XD Also, I can be apathetic about many things as well.

Blog policing is probably my biggest one. Just let people enjoy what they want, write what they want, who gives a fuck? It doesn't involve you, so move on? You don't like something, a ship or a theme, cool, good for you... move the fuck on with your life. I'm so over the purity culture? Or whatever the fuck it's called? How did some of you people ever survive the internet before 2010? You don't know shit about the person behind the computer screen, so get off your high horse. Some people like to write dark themes and they might be curing cancer at the same time. Who are you to judge over fictional characters? Also maybe don't let a stranger on the internet impact your life so much, because that's on you. :/

Friends? What are those? lol. Honestly, I tend to have an extremely small friend group, but I do like going camping and adventures in the bush, going out and eating to socialise is good, too. Playing games. Going to metal concerts :D

VERSE HEADCANONS (THUNDERCATS) - ATALANTE

under the cut in the event they get too long! this list applies to both the original (1985 - 1987) and the short-lived reboot (2011).

atalante was born to king iason and queen clymene of arkadia.

although she had not been born a boy as iason had hoped she would have been, he still viewed her as the rightful heir to arkadia’s throne.

as a newborn, however, she was kidnapped by an unknown bandit and left in the forests on the outskirts of the kingdom to face the elements alone.

her cries were heard by a deity from arkadia’s pantheon -- the goddess of the hunt, artemis. caring for the infant princess, she returned atalante to her parents three days after she’d been found; a festival being held in the goddess’ honor as the result. years later, atalante would become a follower of the goddess out of gratitude for saving her life.

though she’d been next in line to become the sovereign of arkadia, she’d hunt with her peers and her patron goddess. sometimes she’d unintentionally skip lessons and return home with game slung over her shoulders with a proud smile on her face, always promising to stay in her lessons overtime the following day. and she’d keep those promises as well.

arkadia was a mix of old and new; magic and technology working together to keep the kingdom in peace. 

as a teenager, atalante volunteered to slay the calydonian boar, a beast ravaging the neighboring kingdom of calydon.

she was presented the boar’s pelt as a reward for being the first of the volunteers to spill blood from the creature. with magic she’s capable of using it to enhance her strength in battle so long as she wears it.

when growing up, atalante heard stories about neighboring kingdoms -- the farthest away being thundera.

and when she heard of thundera’s destruction at the hands of mumm-ra, she was devastated to hear that millions of lives had been lost. and right away she confronted military leaders to prepare underground bunkers in the event arkadia had been next.

her plan for an eventual invasion? each underground room would be connected to one another through tunnels complicated to navigate by foreigners. when possible enemies approach the gates, bells ring in alert and those who can hear hide within the bunkers, surviving until it is safe to emerge from beneath the surface. 

foreign survivors would also be welcome to hide in arkadia’s bunkers for shelter, so long as they mean no harm. it wouldn’t matter what race they were -- if they needed shelter, she would welcome them.

several months after thundera was destroyed, atalante was crowned the queen of arkadia following the death of her father. though a day after the coronation the bells would toll, and the bi-weekly drills were no longer just drills. arkadia was next in mumm-ra’s path of fury.

it was the blessings of their pantheon that everyone had managed to reach the underground bunkers safely, with mumm-ra’s armies destroying abandoned buildings thinking the denizens were foolish enough to hide inside them. 

as of late, arkadia had been underground. however, gardens grow and everyone is fed. within the bunkers, atalante was an equal to the rest of her people, and she’d been fine with that. so long as her people were safe, she didn’t care about her own status.

atalante is surprisingly great with children. during her hiding underground, she’d spend time with the children who were afraid, telling them stories of old, and stories of what she grew up with -- even of the goddess that saved her life.

MLM SHIPS, FETIZATION, AND MISOGYNY IN THE RPC.

This is a small, or not-so-small, rant about a problem ( in my opinion ) I see more and more often in both the rp community and the art community. As a member of both, I just can’t escape this issue and need to put out some food for thought for everyone to read.

Not all of you are going to agree with me. Maybe, some will want to add in their two cents. Maybe, it’ll go over someone’s head completely. I simply appreciate you putting the time into reading this and giving it, like, two seconds of thought. It may not be an issue for you or be completely unrelated to you, but this is an issue I’m sure others will be able to relate to.

I will preface this by saying that I am a twenty-five year old transman. I am bisexual. I have a degree in psychology and excelled in gender and sexuality psychology. THIS DOES NOT, BY ANY MEANS, MEAN I AM THE END ALL BE ALL OF INFO IN THESE SUBJECTS. My experience is my own and I will not gatekeep or instruct people how to think in concerns of these subjects. I am only saying these things simply to assure you that I am valid in my perspective because I am in these communities. Please, don’t think that I want to invalidate anyone or say that I am better than you because I am these things.

Alright, let’s get the ball rolling because I have a lot of feelings and thoughts on a lot of points.

The number one thing that finally set me off to make this post is the absolute WORSHIP of mlm ( male loving male ) ships in the rpc ( and art comm., but this ain’t about them rn ). I have seen, countless times, entire blogs dedicated to shipping male characters to male characters.

Now, initially, this isn’t a problem. Having a male homosexual ship or homosexual male characters is absolutely fine. Peep my blog, I obviously have some. But, it’s the act of taking a character that was originally female, cisbend them to be male, and shipping them with another male character that's the problem. What was wrong with the female character? You kept her personality but made her male? Why? Is it necessary? It’s the same character. If you are uncomfortable writing female-related smut, fade to black. Smut is not necessary if you are truly focused on the essence of this character.

By making this character male, you are essentially saying that the only problem was that she was female. That’s it. That is misogyny. If you are focusing on her as a character, her body shouldn’t matter. As if females equate to their body when sex and gender are two separate things. But, you are bringing females down by getting rid of this one thing. You are telling them they are not good enough. That, maybe, you would like them better if they were the same but male. Am I being extreme about this? Yes. But, I’m trying to drive home my point here.

Another point to make about fetishizing mlm ships is that, even if you state your character is bisexual, pansexual, etc., that does not give you a pass. If your whole blog has characters who want only male partners even if some are stated to be something other than homosexual, you’re fetishizing them. If you put no effort in exploring relationships with females — platonic, romantic, or otherwise — you may as well call them homosexual and call it a day. I’m not here to dictate how you should play your character, but it’s easy to see where your loyalties lie when there is no evidence of female characters on your blog that you’ve interacted with. Actions speak louder than words. Rpc may be made up of words, but make your words take action. Plenty of people complain about their females being ignored. Go help them. Make your characters be friends, enemies, a crime-fighting duo idk. Females exist, don’t act like they don’t.

Oh, and changing a canon mlm ship to a wlw ship by cisbending them doesn’t change things. You’re still saying that those male characters were better than the pre-existing female characters. I would recommend you focus on the actual females of whatever medium you’ve taken these characters from, or create ocs that are genuinely wlw. This is mostly a thing I see in the art community, but I have seen it in the rpc.

We’re going to move on now to some transphobic and trans fetishization, which is fewer and far between. I say a few because I barely see trans characters out there in the community. But, when I do, OH BOY.

Simply stating a character is trans and doing nothing to upkeep what you said does not make your character trans. I’m sorry. Taking a pre-existing character and changing their gender and calling them trans is a sticky situation. I will probably get hate for this, but what are you going to do? It’s Tumblr. I would just prefer to see more original trans characters out there, as if actual thought and development went into their creation. 

What I mean by a sticky situation is this, and it goes back to a point I made earlier about cisbending characters to fit mlm ships: if you’re only making a character a transman to make him gay, that's fetishizing both mlm ships and trans people. I’m not saying a transperson can’t be gay and I’m not here to limit diverse characters — this is why I say this is a sticky situation. But, what I am saying is that if you only have muses that are involved in mlm ships and then you add a transmale character to also have an mlm ship based on faceclaims, it’s kinda sus.

Another thing I want to point out is if you are playing a trans character, refer to them by their chosen name and pronouns. You would think this is a no brainer, but you would be surprised. Even if your trans character is closeted, it is your job as the writer to write the correct name and pronouns. Other character interacting with your trans character could use their dead name and wrong pronouns — it makes sense, they don’t know your character is trans if they are closeted and non-passing. But, as you write your character, you and the reader are aware of your character’s true self. Neglecting to reflect your character’s true self through their chosen and name and pronouns is transphobic and harmful. Seeing things like this sends me into a whirlwind of dysphoria.

Changing a pre-existing character to nonbinary rather than cisbending them would be a recommendation from me and some others ( nonbinary individuals ) I’ve talked to. First off, there are very few nonbinary characters in general — media or otherwise. So, taking a pre-existing character and making them nonbinary is a nice thing to see. And, since the character is nonbinary, if they’re in a relationship with a male - the fetishization is redundant.

Now, who do I see making these wacky characters? Mostly cis females and trans men. I think it mostly stems from internalized misogyny as, when growing up, we’ve lived in societies where we are taught men are better than women. It can get to the point where cis females will glorify men so much that they have to have mlm ships. The same can be said for trans men. I’m not saying — as is often used against trans men — that this internalized misogyny / glorification of men has caused them to be trans. Obviously not. But, the internalized misogyny is still there enough to where they may either fear interacting with female characters. It might make them uncomfortable, dysphoric, or they just may think men are better. Women do not deserve to be the catalyst for someone’s discomfort. They are people. They are everywhere. They deserve to be loved. If they make you uncomfortable, if you think you are better than them, if you think men are better, I want you to sit down with yourself and think about this.

When I first realized that I was trans, I had some serious internalized misogyny going on. I would be uncomfortable writing female characters. I would be uncomfortable interacting with them. There was this discomfort that started to manifest in my behaviors and thoughts. Luckily, I had the best person in my life who told me that I was acting misogynistic and I needed to change. Pushing away females was me trying to come to terms with my transness. You don’t need to expel females away from you to imbed in yourself that you are trans. You don’t need to raise yourself above them as men have done for centuries. Do not become part of the problem. Accept the feminine parts of yourself, accept females, and I promise that the fear or resentment you may have with females and female characters will fade away.

Now, with all that being said, my last few words:

Being trans does not give you a pass to do the things I’ve mentioned. Being cis does not give you a pass. Being straight, gay, bi, etc does not give you a pass. If you are a gay man, I understand why you would only have male mlm ships. That doesn’t mean you can’t platonically interact with female characters. We all have made dumb mistakes and judgments in the past. I know for sure I’ve written some pretty cringe stuff in the past. It happens. The best we can do? Learn and take action on what we claim to have learned. Again, actions speak louder than words. Don’t piggy-back on posts that call out people for behavior like this when you participate in some of these behaviors yourself. Just because one person got called out and the spotlight is on them doesn’t mean you’re better than them or that you’ve been given a pass. If you read something like this, reflect on yourself and wonder — objectively — do you do some of these things? You may without realizing it or meaning to. In the end, I’m just a small blog that’s been around for seven years. I think we can get better as a community, but only if we help each other out. This is not a call out post. Call out and cancel culture is gross and counterproductive. I ain’t here for it. Call me out if you want, but what’ll that do? Nothing accept invalidate my opinion.

What expectations do you hold towards your plotting partner:  Ideas and somewhat more enthusiasm than me. I tend to shy away or feel very much awkward right off the bat if the person approaches me with not much to say or give. And honestly, some people really intimidate me because I am too hard on myself, so giving a bit of a pat on the back makes me relax more. I deal with a lot of anxiety and I know people run away the second I show it. 

When you notice the plotting is rather one-sided, what do you do?:  Mostly when I am doing the talk or coming with ideas or looking generally more interested. It takes effort for me to get on things and actually do stuff but if it’s not the other way around I end up thinking they got bored of me. I am one hell of insecure person. As for what I do, if after many tries of trying to reach another person and end up feeling rejected or ignored, then ... I stop. What’s the point of insisting if the other person would just be awkward or not spare you a word?

How do you usually plot with others, do you give input or leave most work towards your partner?:  well, I usually ask first what the other thinks or have in mind, if nothing, I either suggest or start brainstorming with the other person. I know some who have dealt with me at first I seem like a dettached person but not having ideas really makes me feel like I have not much right to talk. I want to give yet without impossing or letting it twist my arm. I know for a fact nora’s lore really doesn’t help shit for most things. 

When a partner drops the thread, do you wish to know?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: if the thread was meaningful and we were really into it , then I would ask but as for the most, I don’t really bother with it. Sometimes people just lose muse, and even if I was enjoying it, I don’t have the right  to force someone or ask why they stopped. thread dropping is normal, i guess.  - What should your partner do when dropping a thread?:  whatever they want. telling me or not is up to them, I don’t really mind. RP is not something SUPER serious like it should be just perfect. I try to convice myself of this a lot.

What could possibly lead you to drop a thread?:  either because it was old as fuck, I couldn’t find muse or because it was lost in the void of tumblr’s amazing tracking system. - Will you tell your partner?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS.

Is communication in the rpc important to you?   YES / NO. - And why?:  if I do not have some idea of who am i rping with and what they have in mind, then it’s nearly impossible. being purely IC is really uncomfortable and could lead to a lot of misundertandings. - Are you okay with absolute honesty, even if it may means hearing something negative about you and/or portrayal?:  yeah. mostly yeah -- I mean, I will feel bad, I do have feelings, but I will take it with water. - Do you think you can handle such situation in a mature way?  YES ( but I will feel bad anyways ) / NO.

Why do you rp again, is there a goal?:  connect with others, ramble a lot about characters, have fun. I’ve been rping since i was 12 ( back then it was not big deal your age apparently ) and having to connect with other people by making these plots and stories and just having a fun time is something that brings me joy. There’s so much that can be done. And exploring my muses with other muses influences is really helpful to fill the holes left due indecisiveness.

Wishlist, be it plots or scenarios:  I wish people joined my lore more. Having muses that could be in the same story department as Nora in particular, would be hella and inspire me more. There is so much I have. Explore nora’s power is also something I want but it’s hard -- it’s very invasive and not many would really like it, feeling it’s meta. For now, I don’t really have other muses and Spike has her little crew outside tumblr.

Themes I won’t ever rp / explore:  umm, it’s hard to think in something in particular. But mostly stuff that collides with nora’s story/character. but there is a lot I am willing to explore.

What Type of Starters do you prefer / dislike, can’t work with?: casual starters are my fab. It’s easier to figure out how  to go or stop and think. plotted ones also work. as for what I dislike or cannot work with, things that force my muse to not act how they would? not giving me something solid is hard to handle. 

What type of characters catch your interest the most?:  I really like out of the norm muses, something that you see and say /oh , look at that/. Aesthetically, story wise or personality wise, something that goes out the usual troup most would use. I do have a guilty pleasure for opposite to my muse characters --- something that would really show the contrast with one another.

What type of characters catch your interest the least?:  Very basic ones? or those who try TOO hard to be special. A character that doesn’t fit in the context they are in, esp. in fandoms. HEAVILY divergent characters that just basically turn them into OCs. I know I sound like a bitch but I am the type who respect canon and the actual author behind the character too much. Also those that I don’t know much about? as in, the fandom never managed to catch my interest or smth in that line.

What are your strong aspects as rp partner?:  I know where is the line between fiction and reality. And that what your character does it does not reflect as the person you actually are. I am pretty laid back and I understand people’s views and reasoning. idk. I draw a lot if I am super invested ?

loly aivirrne sucks. shes the absolute worst and is an unrepentant bastard. but that’s what i like about her. also bc shes a centipede and it kicks ass. and because i keep thinking about a series thats been over for years and is never gonna have any more shit (theres light novels but i dont have the patience to read) im gonna develop her. she hides her zanpakuto in her eye mask fragment. kubo makes a repeated joke that she hides it somewhere weird n nasty and i rolled my eyes both times. 

in a desperate attempt to prove her worth, she tried to sell herself as a secretary/aide rather than a fighter. she is not actually good at secretary work and is much better suited to combat, but because she wanted to be seen as attractive and traditionally womanly, she tried to repress that.

she ended up being very insecure about her femininity and appeal, and this may or may not have been subtly encouraged by someone who wanted to keep all the arrancar under his thumb. 

bc yknow if shes too busy being catty and petty to other girls and fussing over herself, then she’ll never notice that she’s being punked!

her treatment of orihime is just the culmination of that! it has nothing to do with orihime herself and all to do with loly trying to maintain her place in the pecking order and feeling threatened/intimidated by another girl!

i imagine she treated menoly much the same before orihime ever showed up bc she was another aide to aizen and you cant have that! but menoly followed behind her, and that kinda just encouraged loly to continue treating her badly.

I think people just say “oh Glee RPC is dead“ only because there used to be 40+ roleplays advertising at any one time. In actual fact it is still alive and people are just adapting. Glee roleplayers are doing indie, Discord, 1x1′s and other smaller groups which may not appear in tags.

Disillusionment. Adara is no stranger to the darkness the world has to offer, too many times has it plagued her path. Born into a poor family, each breathe was a struggle. There was never enough food on the table, never time for love to blossom when her parents were forced to work graveyard shifts. In a house that threatened to fall apart, Adara began to understand just who she could rely on: herself. Still, little inklings of childhood dreams would float into her mind. Was there a life out there waiting for her, warmth and yearning pushing her to try and find it. So she did- at the naive age of eighteen, she packed a bag of her belongings and disappeared into the world. The greyhound bus took her from her empty South Carolina town into the heart of New York City. For the first time in forever, she could taste a possibility on her tongue: the kind of future where she didn’t have to live day by day.

It wasn’t like that.

She’d gone from place to place, landing in a rundown apartment that was far from being a home. The cracks on the ceilings mirrored that of the girl, each one growing more severe with every encounter. What money she had she hid under her mattress, the dollars beginning to dwindle under New York’s gaze. In an act of desperation, Adara found herself in an interview for a cabaret bar. The flier’s bold letters made a claim: be a star, shine like a dream. That was all she really wanted, a chance. So she took it head-on, promises coming back to tie a rope around her neck. Instead of a glimmering stage, she was tossed into the works as a waitress and dead beat dancer. The crowd was reminiscent of sharks in bloody waters- the disgusting comments made them high, all at the expense of Adara. And kindness? It was as prevalent as water in a drought.

Dreams withered away and the knife twisted in further.

What little solace she had was in a neighbor. He’d introduced himself with a soft smile, eyes that shone like brilliant emeralds. It was hard not to lay all her hope into him, when every other hour spent was under the shadow of skyscrapers. Falling in love was something Adara had never done before, and it terrified her. We’ll run away from here, we’ll find something better. They were promises again, made under linen covers and the stars. Yet once she was ready to give herself away completely, heart in the palm of her hands, he left without a sound. No note, no word, nothing but the wind blowing through an empty apartment. It was a lesson learned- trust no one but yourself.

Money was what made the world around, and she never seemed to be able to get enough of it. Each dollar made was stuffed away, rent looming overhead, demanding to be paid. The first of the month would arrive with a fury, and Adara would struggle to make the payment. She’d fall short another hundred, and her debt would begin to rise. The threat of eviction notices began to pile up at her door, and she’d plead with the landlord to give her another chance… however the question remains, how many chances does she have left?

What I wanted to do was have Adara’s life mirror that of Eurydice’s. I think that the original version is someone that was plagued in her own fate, a tragic hero that despite her hope, was taken apart by the world. She was known for being resilient and putting her faith in others, only to be betrayed. Such was the case when it came to Adara chasing her dreams and the man she was willing to fall in love with. I think a common thing between each character is their transition from innocent hopeful to a realist. Both approach life as a pragmatist, after understanding that in order to survive, they cannot hold onto things like hope… however being human, this is something that they desperately want in their life (despite not being willing to admit it). A sense of warmth, someone to hold. Adara, like Eurydice, carries the heavy burden of being alone and it’s an extremely tiring thing. They each trudge on because they have to, but if given a better option, both can be swayed into falling for a trap. For Eurydice, this is the encounter with Hades or even marrying Orpheus. For Adara, this was the lure of the big city and promise.

All of these factors determine how I would portray the character if given the chance, both Adara and her mythic counterpart: as someone whose weathered, someone who finds complications in giving away her heart too easy because of fear, someone who understands that the world can sometimes be a machine that takes people and spits them out… and someone who desperately wants this to not be true.

I think that Eurydice would potentially stand against the Pantheon, after all, she sees the gods and goddesses as beings who have everything. It’s their job to help take care of the mortals, but she herself has been left to the devices of the world. It gives her little to believe in, and if it’s beneficial to stand against the pantheon and serves her, then she would do it. 2. what is their stand on mortals?

Mortals are unkind. Mortals have been put through hell and back, Eurydice included. However if they can tap into their human nature, maybe just maybe, the world can begin to bloom again.

Cigarette extinguished into the ashtray, her eyes looked across the street at a familiar bedroom. The light was on, he was probably headed to work again. They’d met on the NQ train, each encounter furthering the blush that threatened to creep in her cheeks. But it was always the same. The minute life offered a warm bed and a hand to hold, a sense of doubt nudged her heart aside. There was no room for love, not for a woman who didn’t have the luxury of falling. Another person was a liability, and wouldn’t they only hurt her and disappoint her like the rest? Adara’s gaze lingered for a moment, the myriad of what-ifs swimming in her mind before she cast them aside. Life didn’t work that way. Life wasn’t kind.

Do you have any advice for rping a fandom OC? I feel like no one pays attention to mine.

yes!! these are my personal recommendations, not a fix-all. i am not sure which fandom you are in although i assume rw.by? and opinions will differ on how to effectively promote your blog!

firstly, having a bio / about page / dossier / whatever you want to call it is crucial for an oc so your followers and people checking out your blog can learn who your oc is. if you have one already, make that sucker as detailed as you can. leaving it bare means less information to skim. you may know your own oc intimately & love them to death but your reader does not, and your rp partners are not responsible for developing your muse for you. stay within the limits of the information you feel comfortable sharing about your oc (you don’t need to spoil backstory, worldbuilding, etc if you don’t want to!), but be descriptive & thorough when you can. a lot of people only visit an about page once before deciding whether or not to follow! reel em in boy. but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue to update your about page(s) as you develop your oc more over time!

that said, make a headcanon tag if you can. it’s good for personal organization and allows others to search your headcanons too!

straight up reminders or announcements that you’ve added something to your oc’s about page is a good way of engaging your dash too, especially if they only checked out your blog once before following. for example, i’ve said something like “hey pals i added stuff to love’s family page if you wanna check it out!” and linked it for easy access. people may not click it but y’know, you’re showing that you’re workin on your baby.

which i think is very important as a fandom oc. if you can’t rp or can’t find rp partners, do not just stop posting and try to avoid copious negative posts.  no!!  feel like shit? say how much you love your oc.  still feel like shit a week later? make a headcanon post about what your muse does when they feel like shit. crank out them headcanon posts from the simplest thing like what they eat for breakfast (if they eat breakfast!) or what their ootd is (love is from shade “no uniforms!” academy and his wardrobe is bomb ok). reblog musings and aesthetic posts, reblog your face claim if you have one, draw your oc if you draw, post random tidbits about your character, play dash games like doll makers or bu.zzfeed quizzes & shindan maker stuff, find a headcanon meme and just fill it out & post it yourself without waiting for someone to send an ask in. these can spend less creative energy & time than threading, but still provide relevant activity. good for when irl makes you busy or when you’re depressed af! there are memes specially geared towards ocs out there like this one & this one which can get you thinking and writing, even if it’s ooc. you need to post to make potential rp partners interested, period! it is easy to be discouraged but trust me when i say, even though i rp an oc, i have found it hard to engage with other ocs if i just don’t know anything about them & have no spoons to chat up the mun through ims or di.scord. i have felt like i’ve been expected to engage with a blog even though i knew shit about their character / didn’t see them rping and so couldn’t summon up much enthusiasm. share the legwork my dude, and communicate, communicate, communicate when needed.

all of this is up to your own comfort levels! don’t feel like you have to promo yourself though. mun likability & popularity has become Hot on tumblr rp but at the end of the day, if all of that stresses you out then you can totally step back and have your blog just be about your muse and writing!

and again, your rp partners are not responsible for developing your muse for you nor are they obliged to rp with you. i’m not saying this to make roleplaying seem super harsh or anything lol. but if you’re not particularly close to anyone in your rpc or are feeling left out this is even more of a thing, to be able to enjoy your own content. finding someone / a friend group to brainstorm with is always fun & helpful, but iunno, being able to stay self-motivated and independently interested in your own blog regardless of fluctuating activity in my experience has made for better longevity. assuming your rpc is not dead or super clique-y of course.

oh and make a promo if you haven’t? make a new one every now and then with all the necessary tags (main two in rw.by are just #.rw.by rp and #.rw.by rol.eplay, though you can also throw in oc rp, anime rp, manga rp for the hashtag Exposure). posting a new promo after you’ve been particularly active is a smart play. the promo doesn’t have to be graphics heavy. there are promo templates out there but i’ve never used one?a text post works just as well, you can quickly introduce your character. this is my main promo currently. that one is graphics heavy but it includes info like my oc’s name, my name, that i’m an indie and selective blog, and then a quote that i find fitting for love. i’ve had old promos with more typical zinger blurbs like:

The LoZ verse seems pretty dead from what I can tell, & she's been the hardest to get interactions on, and in Pyrrha's case, with the sheer lack of Jaune writers (seriously, I'm pretty sure you're the only person I see actively on my dash that writes Jaune, I shit you not--the same goes for Neptune, though there may be a few others that have recently followed that have Nept there??? but Jaune seems IMPOSSIBLE to find) it's really hard to find a few shippy things to keep my interest (as that's kinda what I like most with blogs/what keeps me engaged the most).

In other words, I haven't had it happen on here, but I've definitely been hesitant to bring certain muses back because of a lack of interaction. I used to have that happen with my Tenten as well when I wrote her other places; she just wasn't very popular, and it was impossible to find anyone who would actively keep up a Neji. My RTN Sakura is a close second in that respect, because again, RTN muses are nearly impossible to find.

Oh, and lastly, MASS EFFECT. Ever since the original trilogy ended and Andromeda was a flop, ugh. When I tried writing in the Mass Effect verse (not on here, on other platforms) it was a nightmare. People were WAY too exclusive, would clamor at my Ashley but not even sneeze in the direction of my OC, and I think I got a whole one interaction that kept me going for a while on the OC, but just never got anywhere. It's another verse I'm hesitant to touch here on Tumblr even though I love my OC to DEATH and really, really want to write an old plot I had for her, but again, the chances of finding someone is pretty slim and I'm not terribly confident in it.

No but seriously.

It’s partly because I’m just a salt mine in general, but also because like... you spend 5 and a half years RPing a character, you get kind of attached to them, you know? You want to see them grow as a character and.... not just that, but as a person. You want to see their relationships grow, their emotions, their motivations. You care about the characters around them, their families, their traumas, their joys and discoveries. You’re invested. 

So when the writers, directors, and even actors treat a sequel to two fairly serious movies with some comic relief like a standalone comedy, it feels like a bit of a slap in the face. 

I’ve talked about this with some fellow Norse god RPers from inside and outside the MCU RPC, and just... it feels like nobody involved in this movie actually gives a shit. (Receipt: apparently Chris’ hair is short in this movie because he didn’t want to spend two hours in hair and makeup. Which. You know. Two hours isn’t a lot, comparatively, and also... can you imagine lacking so much commitment to your role and character that you’re not willing to even look like them?) And ok, fine, he’s allowed to do what he wants. If he doesn’t want to spend that time in hair and makeup, obviously that became his choice. But it’s very indicative of his priorities, and clearly he does not give a shit. Which is insulting, because I give a shit. You want the people creating the content to care about their shit, because that’s an indication that they care about you. When content creators don’t care about the content they’re creating, it sends a pretty clear message about what they think of you, the audience.

Now, here’s the thing: I’m sure by objective standards, this is going to be a good movie. It clearly had a huge production budget that they took full advantage of, Cate Blanchett could stab me multiple times and I’d probably thank her, and I’ve very much enjoyed Taika Waititi’s past work. He’s a phenomenal comedy director. I fell in love with Cate as Galadriel when I was 12 years old and I’m gonna fall in love with her all over again at 25. I’m super excited for Valkyrie in general and... well... then there’s Loki. And here’s where I stop being salty and start being nervous.

Because I am heavily (probably unhealthily) invested in the Thor/Loki fraternal dynamic I think... in kind of the same way Frodo was invested in the idea that Smeagol wasn’t entirely beyond help. I need Thor and Loki to behave like actual siblings with a history and a lot of baggage but also a lot of love, because I need to see my relationship with my own sister reflected there. 

The relationship between my sister and me is not nearly as fraught as the one between Thor and Loki, but... a few small changes to our history here and there, and it might’ve been. And that’s where it becomes very, very personal. I want to see a sibling relationship where, after everything, the siblings still care about each other. Where they can fight and really hurt each other, but then heal and grow and understand and apologize and take responsibility. And I’m not talking about Loki taking responsibility, the same way that deep down I don’t think I deserve an apology from my own sister for her anger towards me; I’m talking about Thor owning up to the abuses Loki endured growing up, often at his own hands, the way I haven’t quite managed to do with my own little sister. 

I need that relationship to grow because I feel like, for siblings who are that close, growth is the only possible solution. You grow or you kill each other, but not caring is not an option, because that person will always be a crucial part of your life. 

And I’m very pessimistic about the treatment of the bros’ relationship in this movie. I’m positive it’s going to be shunted off into the conceptual background. Tom himself has said that Thor doesn’t really care about Loki anymore, and that apathy not only seems out of character, but also like a way to cop out of giving the pair of them any real emotional depth. 

Like, oh ok, these two had a very complex relationship in the last few movies, and that was one of the things that seemed to draw crowds... but we want this to be a comedy, so how are we going to handle that? Easy, we just have Thor not give a damn about his little brother anymore, after he clearly wept over his dead body and after said brother snatched his father’s throne from under his nose. Clearly there’s no reason why he would be elated or furious or confused or worried or... you know... any of those perfectly understandable emotions, because this is a COMEDY and there’s no emotions in comedy!

And yeah, apathy would probably be the easiest emotion for Chris to play at this point, given the interest he’s displayed in his character and characterization thus far. 

They’re just... coming at it all wrong -- treating the destruction of Thor’s childhood home and his loss of his hammer (which, if you recall, was a slightly more emotionally traumatic issue just a few years before) as something trivial and reducing all of the stakes to just... whatever trickles of forced comedy can be squeezed from them. They’re coming at it like Guardians of the Galaxy rather than like Iron Man or Captain America... and I don’t get why? like... because it’s in space or something? Because nobody has ever made a serious, high-stakes movie that was set in space in the history of ever. GotG made sense as a fun, lighthearted space rave because nobody knew the characters, the physical stakes were high but not the emotional ones, and while it was funny, there were still some very cathartic moments. 

Ragnarok doesn’t make sense as a fun, lighthearted space rave because we understand -- some of us on a very visceral level -- the traumas the characters have endured, the high stakes are played off as a joke, and the emotional impacts you would expect the movie’s events to have don’t look like they’re going to be given much -- if any -- screentime.

AAAAND I’m pretty sure I had several more criticisms and concerns and lots more salt to sprinkle all over your pretty little heads but it’s been a long week and I am very tired and my brain is only sort of halfway sending signals to my fingers so we’re just going to leave it at what I’ve written: the movie feels disrespectful and shallow from what I’ve seen, and while I will go see and I do really want to be wrong, I’m not optimistic. At. At all.
