Candiace is Leaving RHOP!
Tumblr media
This announcement came as a punch to the gut. Candiace Dillard Bassett has decided to leave RHOP.
Candiace was my favourite, but she was also a very controversial housewife. Andy Cohen called her a disaster on social media, and she’s far from perfect.
Her insults were incredibly harsh and revealed that there’s a lot of anger behind her words.
But Candiace had no problems with being “difficult”.
I still feel like the other housewives tried their best to set her up.
Even after Gizelle Bryant and Ashley Darby had lied about her husband, the only one who faced punishment appeared to be Candiace herself.
They were proven wrong, but there were no apologies for Candiace and Chris Bassett.
I wrote about how Gizelle and Robyn Dixon were trying to force Candiace off the show, and with Candiace leaving RHOP, it feels like they won.
And I hate that. But it was inevitable, really.
There were no constructive conversations in this group this season, and if they can’t resolve their issues, changes will be made.
Everybody wanted to paint Candiace as the villain, when they should’ve looked at the bigger picture.
Last season was ugly. Candiace is allowed to feel hurt by that.
Robyn did something wrong, and there are consequences for that. But instead of taking some responsibility for her actions, she demonised Candiace.
In all fairness, Candiace’s response to Robyn’s deceit was normal, maybe a little shamelessly public, but normal nonetheless.
I don’t think it’s right that Candiace is the one to leave the show. But it was obvious that she wasn’t comfortable or happy.
If it was up to me, it’s Ashley who should’ve been fired.
Her only function on the show without Michael Darby is being the producer’s little pet.
But we’ve already got Gizelle, and nobody’s going to fire Gizelle.
Without Candiace on the show, I wonder who they will paint as the villain next.
It should be Ashley, because… well, she brought in Deborah Williams, repeatedly. Even after the women warned her not to.
That should tell everything you need to know about Ashley’s character.

Robyn and Gizelle stop trying to make Charisse happen. She isn't going to happen. She is so boring I want to bang my head against the wall whenever she's on screen. Nobody cares that she's wealthy and prominent in your area she's not interesting or entertaining at all

It's time to retire reality TV
With all the hoopla surrounding Real Housewives of Potomac, the staged storylines, Robyn working overtime to move the story along with fake or exaggerated storylines all the while hiding the messiness of her own life, Gizelle, the so-called face of the show and Andy's favorite, pushing back and shutting down the lines of questioning whenever she's asked about anything other than her staged storylines, the inauthenticity of the show, the forced relationship, and the staleness, and stankness, of the real life friend group dynamic, it is time for reality TV to either evolve or retire.
Many people, not just those on social media, have noticed that the majority of the Real Housewives and other reality TV shows that depend on a wealthy, well known, aspirational, or well to do friend group have lost their luster. When reality TV shows started to reach their stride in the early 2000s, it was either a competition show, talk show, a show with has been celebrities of the 70s, 80s, or 90s, and Real World type of shows with strangers cast together and while there was drama, none of it was staged, so much so that reality shows started to become too real so producers starting to, well, produce. Being Bobby Brown and The Osbourne's, while they initially gave a boost to the stars whose heyday had passed, they ultimately caused more harm than good. The Osbourne's were so wild, that they were a little too real for reality TV. In the late 2000s, say 2008-2010ish, the buddy format became a thing. It became acquaintances, friends, friends of friends, lovers, or business associates supposedly living their regular lives while reacting to situations that producers created and it was a hit. You had Love and Hip Hop, the Real Housewives, Basketball Wives and some I can't think of off the top of my head but they were hits. These shows started when I was in my early 20s and now I am in my late 30s and they are still on and it was time to retire them. One of my favorite youtube reviewers, ItsRox, loves to say "Mona,b---" when reviewing any Love and Hip Hop franchise because it is obviously scripted. When you watch enough TV, you can tell when something isn't natural or forced.
Reality TV starting limping when people began to realize you can make a living as a reality star and not just supplemental income. When people like New York, NeNe, Bethany Frankel, Jocelyn Hernandez, and so many others, who weren't known before their respective shows, began to branch out and make money on their businesses and side projects, reality TV became inauthentic. We have people like, Wendy, who allegedly purposely make faces, reads, and moments in order to become break out stars and I don't blame them. If Jen Shah from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City makes about $500,000 a year, I know the ladies on RHOP make equal or more for the subpar work. Many people ask why don't these new shows have a breakout star and it's because the days of authenticity are over. The days of finding someone who is truly funny, engaging, and touched enough in the head to get on a reality show and not just putting on for the cameras is long gone. I don't want anyone to lose their jobs but I am okay with rotating casts and phasing people out when their storylines end. I know housewives in the DMV are truly hard to come by but there is no reason why half the ladies should just be able to sit on the best parts of their lives, not even bring anything including humor, and collect a half million dollar check. There are too many bone collectors and honestly, I would rather watch true friends who have natural drama and chemistry than a group of women who hate each other and try ruin each other's lives. I'm over reality TV as it is. I am also over reality TV shows that have been on since I was too young to be on them and now I am too old to compete on. I think we should work on some new concepts. If I stopped watching the show while I was at Bowie, from 2004-2008, then it may be time to move on.
Honestly, reality shows probably aren't going anywhere no matter how much we complain, although they should. They are cheap to make, the talent is all but free, and with streaming, social media, and apps, TV networks aren't making a lot of new shows, just the tried and true ones and while a few years ago, networks used to have blocks of TV shows that premiered several days a week, sometimes every day, it is rare that a network has more than 5 original shows because people just aren't watching TV like they used to, so it makes sense to put new shows on the app or just not premiere them.

my mom and I are catching up on Real Housewives of Potomac but I’ve been listening to podcasts and the light skins are acting up again!!! I bully my mom for liking Gizelle even though I like Ashley but I like her for sexual reasons, her messiness is ugly lmao. I could fix her though.
they’re saying Wendy and Mia were playing and showing each other their vaginas 🙄 and 4 of the women were making out. I’m skeptical about that one.
I’m still mad at Robyn for letting them lie about Chris like that. she knew the truth. I don’t want anyone fired but everybody but Wendy and Candiace are being fucking ridiculous. I’m having fun listening to all of the commentary though. Robyn needs to admit that she and Juan are roommates. that man does not love you.

The Housewife I’d Most Want As A Friend
by franchise
NEW YORK CITY: SOBER LUANN DE LESSEPS
Because Bethenny got a little scary there at the end of her run AND ALSO
Because Carole was so awful to Bethenny during their friend breakup
Because Jill was so awful to Bethenny during their friend breakup
Basically if you cut my girl I have no use for you. That means you, Kelly Bensimon.
ORANGE COUNTY: GINA KIRSCHENREITER (sp?)
Because she’s real. And stable in her relationships. And loyal.
POTOMAC: ASHLEY DARBY
Because Monique got kicked off the show
Because I loathe Candiace
Because Karen Huger is just too weird for me
Because there is no room between Robyn and Gizelle
ATLANTA: CYNTHIA BAILEY
Because she is so beautiful I’d just want to look at her all the time, so yeah, let’s hang
Tho Porsha has been growing on me as I watch her evolve and make questionable decisions and react appropriately
Because Nene is gone and she was my OG favorite
BEVERLY HILLS: GARCELLE BEAUVAIS-NILON
Because Kyle is insufferable and made Lisa Vanderpump leave the show
Because Lisa Rinna is an idiot
Because Kathy Hilton seems mentally unstable
Because Sutton is the worst kind of snob
Because Garcelle is thoughtful, tough, and tells the truth
And I don’t watch Salt Lake City or New Jersey.

Can you rank the Potomac housewives from favorite to least favorite
I haven’t fully watched Potomac but I will try:
Katie : now yes I’m starting with her because I watch compilation videos of her every two weeks and it’s always giving me life. She had this way of putting the green eyes bandits in her place and her dumb/stupid comment 😂
Karen : how not to love the grand dame. Her wigology should be studied
Gizelle’s daughters : they know how to keep their mom on their toes and make Gizelle likable.
Monique
Ashley : Ashley is evil and she got colorism on her side for sure in a lot of situation. Overall she is a good messy woman lol Wish she would learn to love herself and leave that evil lipless Gollum looking husband
Gizelle : she is a good villain lol
Robyn : I don’t like her smugness but I will admit that sometimes I lost my way and she makes me laugh with her reactions lol. A little too obsessed with her blackness too it’s pathetic
I have no idea where I stand with Candiace because of that tweet where she called someone a cockroach and I don’t like her energy. After she doesn’t have colorism on her side and the lightskins be going at her harder a lot of the times. Personally I don’t vibe with her maybe one day I will 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again!
Tumblr media
The word “evil” is not a strong word when it comes to Mia Thornton, Jacqueline Blake claimed.
But they did more progress with one conversation than Candiace Dillard Bassett, Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon have with an entire season.
Everybody seems to like Jacqueline, and everybody appeared to keep in touch with her after her multiple falling out with Mia between the two seasons.
They claim that they’re fighting like sisters, but that has got to be like The Richards sisters and Kathy Hilton. I’m not fighting with my sisters like that.
It’s heartbreaking that their issues are because of what happened when they were young.
It’s not just meaningless bullshit between them. There’s real trauma that Mia needs to work through when it comes to her relationship with Jacqueline.
Mia is struggling with feeling resentment towards Jacqueline for what happened in the past, which is why her outbursts is so vicious with her.
But if they can have a civil conversation together, why can’t the rest of the group?
When Charrisse Jackson-Jordan wanted to rehash the issue between Candiace and Robyn at her annual, disappointing crab boil, she wasn’t prepared for the screaming match that followed.
As Keiana Stewart had observed, these women are incapable of talking to each other – they’re only yelling at each other and nobody’s listening.
And Charrisse was screaming and banging on her table to make the women stop yelling at each other.
Mia’s facial expression while muttering to herself “we’re about to get kicked out” cracked me up.
The fact that Charrisse accidentally banged on Jacqueline’s hand cracked me up.
The only thing Karen Huger missed at this party was some under-seasoned crabs and an embarrassing meltdown for no reason.
This is a very long season with no progression. This episode was called “Boiling Point”, but this season isn’t cooking at all.
The only one who has an interesting storyline this season is Mia.
Her marital issues, her financial problems, dealing with trauma, and feuding with Jacqueline. Cheating on her husband.
Like Carlos King said: They should’ve built the season around Mia this season.

RHOP and Colorism
We have been having the colorism debate related to Real Housewives of Potomac since the show first aired nearly 8 years. It was predicated on the debate that Katie, Gizelle, and Robyn were having about Robyn and Gizelle being biracial due to their appearance of light skin and green eyes and Katie's mother is black, darker skinned, has coarser hair texture, and has a white father, although we don't know much about him except that he's 100% German and Katie claims she is more white than black for that reason. After hearing the recent talk about colorism and seeing the fight between Mia and Wendy and watching how Robyn instigated and cheered on what was basically an assault against Wendy for no reason, it finally hit me what was being said. There is a reason why we can't assign Katie and Ashley, even Karen although they all have some sort of privilege due to their skin tone is because race and colorism are two different experiences. Having a father that looks white but is culturally black and chooses to live as a black man is different than having a father of European descent that has only lived the white American, or European, experience. Two different things. Ashley may have light skinned privilege and she may experience some benefits of colorism but she didn't live the same experience as Robyn and Gizelle and I think that's where I tripped up. Me being first generation college grad is different than someone who is a 4th generation grad. There is a legacy and pedigree that my family doesn't have.
An ism is something you actively participate in, a privilege is something that is sort of an offshoot of that "ism" but you don't actively participate in it. In order to benefit from colorism, you, or your family, must actively participate in it, not just be light skinned. Ashley may have light skinned, curly haired privilege but she does not have the benefit of being a colorist or even a classist because she does not have the privilege to actively participate in the perpetuation of that system. Katie may be mixed and her mom may be a high powered executive but Katie doesn't have the pedigree or class to get into upper class social circles, which is why Katie reverted back to who she really is the past couple of years. Classism and colorism are first cousins, if not half siblings, they don't always intersect but they're closely intertwined. Not everyone who was light skinned or mixed participated in colorism. There is a difference in having a poor Irish farmer father who was an indentured servant than having a rich landowner father who was willing to allow you to have some proximity to upper class whiteness. Having a landowner or slave master father who let you work in the big house as a child, allowed you to play with the half siblings that you didn't know were half siblings, and allowed you to get some trickle down education made a big difference. Many of those slaves were assigned to blue collar, skilled work, such as cooking, carpentry, blacksmith and they, and their mothers, were often freed and they were able to take their skills, and sometimes land or inheritance left by their slave master father, to get a head start in life. These children of slave masters then met other children of slave masters, married and created the black upper class. There is no secret why many of the men and women who had the honor of being first during reconstruction passed for white. If you did not know the Plessy in Homer vs. Plessy case was a mixed race man, you would assume this was two white men suing each other.
A couple years ago, Robyn did an ancestry DNA test and it was found out that she was genetically biracial with more white. That is not an accident. Robyn and Gizelle look like that on purpose. Vanessa Williams, who also has similar looks to Robyn and Gizelle is also genetically biracial although her parents are culturally black. This let's me know that there are generations of genetically biracial people only marrying other genetically biracial people. Just like Jews rarely intermarry, it was like that for the multigenerational mixed. They only married those with the same genetic make up. I also wouldn't be surprised if upper class blacks who did not have the complexion, purposely had biracial children or children with very light people so that they would be more accepted in upper class society. It is no secret that the public face of accomplished blacks were biracial or very light people. A side note, just like I don't think it's fair to shut darker skinned, 4c haired blacks out of the mainstream media, we shouldn't discount the blackness of a person who is biracial or light skinned because they consider themselves black too.
When HBCU's were created, the first attendees were often the children of mulattoes. Like with all "ism" we always have a few people that slip in. So like with racism, there are a few racists with black friends and black children, there are darker skinned people who infiltrated upper class society. Jamal, who is a Kappa, Morehouse graduated, son of a prominent pastor, and accomplished in his own right, would have been welcomed into the black upper class; Juan who is the illegitimate child of drug addicts would not have been welcomed, even though it has been rumored that his aunt is former mayor Sheila Dixon. I've heard rumblings and have read things but nothing is confirmed. All I'm saying is that light skinned and mixed does not automatically equal entry into the black bourgeoise, it is also about class. Jamal has the class and pedigree, Juan does not. They only similarities they have are in character.
When we discuss colorism on this show and how Gizelle and Robyn treat the darker skinned, or less educated women, I feel like that is the only accurate part of this conversation. This is probably why they look down on a few of the women because they weren't born into it, as well because she wasn't born into her life; they got into the life on their backs, and truth be told, Gizelle couldn't sleep or pedigree her way into those lives, trust me, she's tried. Everyone likes to talk about how Gizelle's face got real tight when Monique told her that her former NFL players husbands money allows her to have four homes and Gizelle got in her feelings, tried to downplay Monique, and literally ruin her life because this low class woman who didn't even finish college is living a life she doesn't deserve. Candiace got a bit of it but not as much because she has similar pedigree as Robyn and Gizelle. Her mother is a psychologist with multiple homes and her father is a doctor. Very similar. Robyn and Gizelle are classist and colorist, Ashley just has mommy issues. Then we have Wendy who is the child of immigrants, she's educated, she works hard and she has a good marriage, to them she doesn't deserve it, just like Monique and Karen don't. Then she has the nerve to talk back and think she's good enough? About two generations ago Wendy wouldn't even have been seen as good enough to carry Gizelle's bag, let alone be in the same spaces as her. I also think this is why they're trying to swap Karen out for Charrisse, even though Charrisse is not good TV but they think she deserves the platform due to her pedigree and connections. The problem is they've been trying to match fetch happen for more than 5 years and it always falls flat. Neither the producers or fans like Charrisse but they like Karen and it's because Karen is good TV and Charrisse is not. Karen is the perfect housewife; she married well, is willing to spend her money on events, is a bit delusional, is quick with the shade, can read well, and also can forgive and move on. Charrisse just looks like something stinks. Not a good fit. We don't care if Charrisse is friends with the Obamas, we don't want her on our screen. Please and thank you.
The reason why ashley and Katie clashed with Robyn and gizelle on the race and colorism thing is because two different experiences. Having a father that looks white but is culturally black is different than having a father of European descent that has only lived the white American experience. In order to henefit from colorism, you must participate in it, not just be light skinned.

I  haven’t blogged about it because I tend to be on twitter when I’m watching the show, but nothing has changed. If you ain’t watching Real Housewives of Potomac, you missing out. To me, the show has always been dope, they’ve always been more relatable TO ME, than any of the housewives shows, including Atlanta. I swear these women are my aunties, and some of my bougie cousins.
Karen always serves, I’ve loved her from the beginning. Monique is my second favorite, I think they are about to go ham on her just from what I heard, she’s going to have a huge falling out with Ashley that’ll carry through the rest of the season. Candiace is still too new and a little extra, but I think I’ll continue to like her. That Ashley is messy as fuck. I don’t hate her yet, but I’m prepared to lol. Gizelle is the saddest mean girl ever. She wants so hard to be Regina George, but she’s not. When every woman at that table has put you in your place (except for Gizelle’s Gretchen), you fail at being a mean girl and should just give it up. And since we’re on the Gretchen of the show, I’m just going to mimic Karen’s words from this video clip. “Robyn, shut the fuck up.”

The ‘RHOP’ Monique vs. Candiace Physical FIGHT Finally Airs – Here’s The Castmates’ Reactions!
Tumblr media
Last night’s episode of the “Real Housewives of Potomac” was EXPLOSIVE…to say the least. Co-stars/former friends Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard-Bassett got into a physical fight and now we've got everyone's reactions. More inside…
The “Real Housewives of Potomac” fight fans have been waiting for finally aired last night. And whew! It was many things!
Tensions between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard-Bassett boiled over and it resulted in the ladies having to be pulled apart by producers.
Check it:

And here’s a behind-the-scenes angel of the fight:

Whew, chile!
Fans noticed Gizelle Bryant seemingly nudged Monique’s shoulder right before the fight popped off and they have been accusing her of starting the fight.
Monique noticed it too while she was live tweeting during last night’s episode:
Who’s hand was that pushing my shoulder #RHOP
— Monique Samuels (@iammrssamuels) September 28, 2020
She also retweeted this:
Listen, Monique shouldn’t have flicked C^ndiace’s hair. She’s said that and I’m saying that too. However, Mo told C^ndiace to get her hand out of her face and things just escalated due to C^ndiace provoking the situation. Both wrong. End. #RHOP
— Keirn (@KeirnThomas) September 28, 2020
Wow. That escalated so fast #RHOP
— Monique Samuels (@iammrssamuels) September 28, 2020
I hear her still talking... now it’s over #RHOP

If I knew then (triggers) what I know now... none of this would have escalated this way smh #rhop #growth
— Monique Samuels (@iammrssamuels) September 28, 2020
Right back to mommy mode with no time to even grasp the weight of what happened the night before #RHOP
— Monique Samuels (@iammrssamuels) September 28, 2020
The blessing of experiencing lows means there’s no where to go but UP! Keep watching to see the entire journey. I’m grateful for my ups and my downs because they help me grow. I’ll continue to look for the positives wrapped within the negatives and move forward #RHOP
— Monique Samuels (@iammrssamuels) September 28, 2020
Ashley Darby said she was "shocked" the ladies were fighting after she returned from the restroom:
SHOCKED!! https://t.co/29WA1KguIb
— Ashley (@_AshleyDarby) September 28, 2020
I thought we were wrapping up and my bladder was calling... https://t.co/rVjtj6oFk6
— Ashley (@_AshleyDarby) September 28, 2020
Gizelle hasn’t directly addressed the fight, but it’s clear who’s side she’s on:
Ok Candiace gotta BOP on her hands! #RHOP
— Gizelle Bryant (@GizelleBryant) September 21, 2020
Co-star Robyn Dixon heard what folks were saying about her involvement in the fight and responded:
And this is the same thing as grabbing someone’s hair and repeatedly hitting them on the head after 3 male producers had to jump in and beg to let go? Ok #Rhop https://t.co/38uIjaSX1d
— Robyn Dixon (@RobynDixonRHOP) September 28, 2020
Before the fight, Candiace responded to a fan who commented on the brawl:
The only people who aren’t shocked are people she’s paying or pieces of shit who are committed to hating me. both look as stupid as she is. I look forward to the next time you get into a verbal altercation & someone tries to physically attack you. I’m sure your dad is very proud.
— Candiace Dillard Bassett (@candeegal) September 27, 2020
You’ll see everything. All of it. They really left little, if anything out. It’s raw. It’s very traumatic for me. I would be lying if I said I’m okay. I’m not. The level of instability a person has to have to behave the way she did and then double down on it is incomprehensible. https://t.co/GIbVu5kCbh
— Candiace Dillard Bassett (@candeegal) September 26, 2020
She also laughed at a joke a fan made about her bundles staying intact:
  — Candiace Dillard Bassett (@candeegal) September 28, 2020
”RHOP” fans accused Karen Huger of picking sides, but she said that’s not the case:
NOT TAKING SIDES SWEETIE! Two wrongs dot make a right #rhop https://t.co/DWJ6EjNW4T
— Karen Huger (@KARENHUGER) September 28, 2020
Wrong is wrong! PERIOD! #rhop https://t.co/RixYcqAeLL
— Karen Huger (@KARENHUGER) September 28, 2020
#Rhop https://t.co/TqdVmEAz6v
— Karen Huger (@KARENHUGER) September 28, 2020
Newbie Dr. Wendy Osefo also provided commentary about the fight:
My first thought was to protect both ladies. My mommy instincts kicked in immediately. #RHOP
— Dr. Wendy Osefo (@WendyOsefo) September 28, 2020
Wendy threw shade at Ashley Darby for being on Monique's side:
How do you: Go to the bathroom, Miss the WHOLE fight, then come back and blindly pick a side?! #RHOP
— Dr. Wendy Osefo (@WendyOsefo) September 28, 2020
Ashley responded:
Wendy, I didn’t blindly pick a side. I used my prior experience to try to make sense of a situation. https://t.co/E23OEBz2PF
— Ashley (@_AshleyDarby) September 28, 2020
We can have our verbal disagreements, but when things get physical I draw the line. I do not stand for that. #RHOP
— Dr. Wendy Osefo (@WendyOsefo) September 28, 2020
The fight went down back in October 2019 during a dinner party, which resulted in both ladies pressing charges. Candiace filed a complaint against Monique for second-degree assault. Then, Monique popped back with her own suit against Candiance for second-degree assault. A few months later, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office dismissed the charges against the RHOP stars, so both ladies dodged legal troubles.
Several of the ladies feel like Monique took it too far. Do you agree? Are you #TeamMonique or #TeamCandiace...and why?!
