1. Attack On Titan

I can never ever move on from this story. The plot twists??? The characters??? Zero fan service and filler episodes and being just straight to the point??? And the PLOT!?! HELLO??? THE PLOT IS SO GODDAMN GOOD????

Attack on Titan is truly a fantastic story about war, humanity, sacrifice and above all, love. On the surface level, it seems like every other shonen anime out there but its depth is truly incomparable. No media I’ve watched comes close to it.

2. Captive Prince Trilogy

I think I read this series for the first time back in 2018-19 and it absolutely rocked my world??? I reread it almost every year now because holy shit??? I’ve never read a better enemies to forced allies to friends to lovers to divorced but forced allies to lovers to im gonna die for this man???

Also the plot??? CS Pacat knew how hard they cooked and ate with Captive Prince. The world building, the characters, the plot twists, politics, the drama??? I M M A C U L A T E.

I highly recommend it to everyone who has not read it but please check the trigger warnings for this trilogy before you start.

3. Carry On Trilogy

I don’t think I’ve ever been as emotionally attached to a series as I’ve been to Carry On. Like Simon, Baz and Penny were exactly who I needed as an awkward teen dealing with a lot of bs. I saw this trilogy being completed in front of my eyes. I can’t tell you how healing and rewarding it was for me to read Any Way The Wind Blows. 2020 was the most horrific, heartbreaking nightmare for me and I think a part of me healed when I read AWTWB in 2021. When I saw that Simon and Baz were going to be okay, I understood that I would okay too. It wasn’t going to be easy, but it would happen.

Sorry I think I got too personal but I just have so much love for this series and the way it showed healing and love and friendship. It’s so special to me ❤️

4. Tian Guan Ci Fu

A very recent addition but I just know it’s going to be one of those series I’m going to spend the rest of my life loving. I’m such a sucker for stories that are, at the end of the day, about love. About knowing how vicious and shitty this world is but being kind is what makes all the difference. About learning from past mistakes and about making a future, no matter how late that future comes.

It also gave me Xie Lian. You guys don’t understand just how much I love Xie Lian. I can go to war for that man, okay. I can follow him through hell. I will protect that man with my life.

5. The Good Place

It’s been a while since I watched this show but I do remember just how deeply it impacted me and permanently altered my brain chemistry.

The characters were all so unique and coming from such different backgrounds and with really interesting backstories. The growth we witnessed for them over the four seasons was phenomenal. Especially for Eleanor. And Michael. God I fucking love Michael.

Everything about this show was top notch. I think I will need to make a whole separate post talking about the philosophy of this show. I think this is one of those shows that everyone needs to watch at least once in their life.

6. Fleabag

Fleabag will always be superior. The main character is one of my all time favorites and I think it tells a really great, bittersweet story of coming to terms with your own flaws. It’s a story about life but not the entirety of it because we just get to witness a very small portion of Fleabag’s life. Her mistakes are colossal but her life is too big to be defined by it. Yes she is a raging cunt but yes I love her to death and her story too. The humour, the fourth wall breaking, the emotions… all of it make fleabag the amazing show it is.

7. Yuri On Ice

My first anime ever. The feelings it gave me is incomparable to any other. News of its movie cancellation was beyond devastating.

I can’t begin to emphasise just how important this anime is for queer representation in mainstream anime because while this anime is about ice skating, yes, above all it’s about love. How it makes us better, how it brings out the best version of ourselves, how it sustains and pushes us forward. And that love just so happens to be between two men. It’s just so heartwarming.

It was so so important for me as a young queer person still struggling with their identity and wanting to fit in. Yuri On Ice was so important for me and still is.

the ‘flesh and bone’ is a reference to adam and eve when he calls her the ‘bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh’. im not religious and i think adam was a bitch ass husband but i was trying to convey the idea that reader feels like her and satoru are the first man and woman, the beginning of humanity, etc

the turtle doves were obviously supposed to be satoru and reader.. turtle doves are known for being symbols of eternal love and i also researched birds that are native to a specific park in tokyo and the oriental turtle dove was one of them ! the huddling is also meant to parallel satoru and reader when they were in the booth in sushi go

To me, this is phenomenal and no, I'm not saying this just to compliment but because it is. It's quiet it's beautiful it's warm its a dream I could spend in forever. And it's so so true.  "You could do it yourself, but why should I let you, when I am here, and you are loved?" is I think utterly beautiful.

And ofcourse, the cherry on top; "Will you marry me?" "Again?" "Again." took my breath away, completely.

the street cats (making love) series by doztoevsky literally knocked me out the first time I read thru it. It's SO well-written and they have both Hoffman + Strahm's characters down amazingly!! This series is actually what got me to like... understand where ppl are coming from when talking abt hoffstrahm tbh!! (related is also their series bad company which is also phenomenal... obsessed w how well they write Adam!!) - Ships included in this series: Hoffstrahm and Chainshipping! (though the latter only rlly appears in lost in the supermarket)

Strip the Paint by fiddlestick is actually one of the first fics tht came to mind when I saw this ask! Everyone is SO well-written and the dynamic btwn Amanda and Adam and Lawrence? I am Obsessed. It's literally been living rent-free in my head since I read it for the first time and I cannot recommend it enough!! I ADORE the way the three of them interact with each other (ESP Mandy and Adam) and with others SO much. (related is Friend of My Friend, which explores the dynamic btwn Lawrence and Mandy within the universe of Strip the Paint!!) - Ships included in this fic: Chainshipping, eventually!

all the little pieces that make up a life series by allegedly_writing! Not only is it an amazing exploration of what life after the bathroom trap is like for Adam and Lawrence, it's also phenomenal t4t rep that I don't see nearly enough of!!! It's also a lot of domesticity, which I am Also weak for. This series means so much to me and the care + tact with which it's written is beautiful and definitely deserves the love it gets <3 They've also got some good character pieces, esp the steady sting of realization (Daniel Matthews), the shadow of my life was hanging over me (Jill), + and death rode on a pale horse (Amanda)! - Ships included in the first series mentioned: Chainshipping!

There are A Lot of my bestie's fics that I could include here, but one that really struck me was Stop Bath (fakebodies)! It's so so sweet and I go back to reread it pretty often tbh. I'm very weak for fics where Adam like... realizes he's loved, yk? bc he deserves that. And this fic delivers!! + I am incredibly fond of the idea that Lawrence takes pictures of Adam occasionally as well + Adam getting emotional over that bc he's so used to being the one Behind the camera, and the fact that someone wants to immortalize him as he is in some manner,, pure fluff and well worth the read <3 - Ships included in this fic: Chainshipping!

rematch by unstuckintime is genuinely one of the most unique and interesting SAW fics I've read omg. I honestly quite like time loop-centric stories, and this one is absolutely incredible!! I know I've said this a lot so far but the way they write Adam is so so on point and very Him if that makes sense - both in his actions, his voice, and his introspection over the course of the fic. It's a very interesting concept that was executed brilliantly!! - Ships included in this fic: Chainshipping (not centric but definitely implied at the least)!

i could not stop for death by flwergardens is absolutely AMAZING like the prose in this fic... breathtaking. I honestly had never even thought abt the concept of vampire Adam (or vampires being introduced into the SAW universe in general) until I read this and the way that it's written is absolutely incredible!!! The way sensations and scenery and general atmosphere is described is genuinely SO appealing and really reiterates the vividness of what's occurring! (there IS some mention of gore, but it's not too graphic; it's tagged properly but proceed w caution.) - Ships included in this fic: Chainshipping, at least implied!

I don't see enough Lynnmanda but I Can recommend into my arms by lynndenlon! As ppl can probably tell from the content of my writing, I'm very fond of like... hurt/comfort fics, esp in regards to nightmares, but also the exploration of trauma that we otherwise don't see reflected Super often in the franchise itself (which might be bc I Also have PTSD, but. u know.), and this fic handles it very well,, they Do deserve to be soft sometimes. I also think it's a very skilled use of first person POV (Lynn's POV)!! (I care them so much omg,, I'm also like. not typically fond of first person but it Works here!) - Ships included in this fic: Lynnmanda!

For similar reasons as that Lynnmanda fic, there are no winners (there are only survivors) by mewhiphand is an absolutely Amazing exploration into Amanda's life directly after her game & how she's coping with it. It's very tactfully written and it's one of those fics you can just Feel with the way things are being described, if that makes sense! It's a very well-written Amanda-centric fic and handles her emotions so well!! - Ships included in this fic: N/A!

okay I also have to include the sleeping with the television on series by jayjesus bc. It is fucking HILARIOUS. THIS is the Hoffstrahm dynamic (very, VERY dysfunctional, as I see it being btwn those two) I adore reading, and not only is the dynamic fun to read about, their usage of prose is also awesome too. Hoffman and Strahm are SO bitchy to each other in this series jkdsfaks I love it!! - Ships included in this fic: Hoffstrahm!

I am sorry this is so late to the ask about favorite fics, but I am a slow not so great writer, and it is also very long 😬. But I still wanted to share this with you, and I hope you like it! Anyways here’s my top ten!

1.) Et Tu

So this is my favorite and most reread. You build the tension so masterfully that it is like a noose tightening around the mc’s neck. The glances and looks from each team member during practice are used to skillfully inform the reader and are used as reference during the confrontation (gotta love continuity!). The fact that you referenced earlier in the fic made me super happy. I immediately knew you were a good writer the second I read it (I mean I already knew you were good, but I feel it was this moment I was like your not just good but phenomenal) The confrontation scene is amazing it had me going from anticipation and curiosity to thirsty so fast. I also liked the fact that you once again described the team in the locker room, so we could know how their dynamic with the reader changed once they were in private. Is beautiful 100/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 gold stars

2.) Like Nobody Else

You are a queen of building tension as seen in most of your works, but this one was the pinnacle of everything I wanted:

soulmates ☑️, yandere ☑️, smut ☑️

Like you put all of my favorites in one fic and I was like ma’am this is some queen level writing. It’s so amazing I have read it multiple times. Will read it again. Never gets old. Will probably go reread it again now.

3.) Bully

Ah yes once again the spice that gives me life ~tension~. So much so that it is the first thing I have written for all top 3. Your just so good at writing it. Unfortunately I don’t really know how to explain how amazing you are at building tension. Like I can cut the tension in your writing with a super dull plastic butter knife (if that even makes sense???). I like how in this fic it isn’t just Oikawa, but also his fan club getting involved. Whenever his fan club is involved it’s like soft very small crime Lord vibes cause it’s other people doing his bidding. I will get my mafia au fix in anyway I can get it until you update Lion’s Den. Ok got off track there, anyways I like all the character interactions in this fic and how Oikawa corners the readers throughout it. Also I have thoroughly enjoyed all the Drabbles you wrote for Bully.

4.) Feral

This is the first fic of yours I read. I love this one as well as your other BNHA fics. I love how you write Hawks in this, and the more you write BNHA fics the better you’ve gotten at writing the characters. There is always a learning curve when writing a for a new character or fandom, but as you’ve gotten more comfortable writing in this world your works have improved. This is the fic I felt as a reader you were getting more comfortable writing for BNHA. It’s such a good fic too. I love how you wrote snapped Hawks in this. I am so happy I found you and this fic.

5.) For Old Times Sake

I love this one so much. Probably cuz the Miya twins are in it lol. I don’t know why?? but I love your description of the pool flashback I just do? Like I will go open the fic and scroll right to that part and reread it. Like I love that scene so much that when you open your requests back up Imma probably ask for a prequel just for an extended pool scene. Like the twins orchestrating getting everyone drunk and then once the reader is making out with them each twin takes turns shooing everyone else out of the pool so they can be alone~.

Anyways amazing fic. Like so good in fact that I moved it up the list twice.

6.) Dirty

👏 MY CRUSTY BOI 👏

You did so good with the smut in this fic. I know you said you were going to practice writing smut more and I want you to know it either A.) paid off (even though I didn’t think you needed practice it the first place because your good at writing smut) or B.) in the case this was practice that you no longer need to practice and that you are now a smut master. Good stuff, and was an amazing surprise to find during my daily check of your tumblr. Here another gold star to add to your collection ⭐️

7.) Good Girl

I call this one the OG even though it isn’t your first fic. I think I started calling it the OG once I figured out it was your first Haikyuu!! smut on AO3. I really liked all the character interactions in this. If you ever feel up to posting the first draft with yandere Sugawara so we can see how the original confrontation plays out and how this changes the interactions I would love to read it. Cause honestly the more yanderes the better lol. Also Oikawa was really hot in this like 🥵. Love reading the second chapter cause the smut is fantastic. Also really liked the cliffhanger to be continued ending that also has a certain amount of finality to it. I have no clue how you were able to write the ending like this for Good Girl or any of your other fics, but I’m happy you write the endings this way. It leaves me fine with the ending you have but leaves the door open for you to revisit and add more to completed fics which can be done through drabbles or with a part 2. Just really well done 👍

8.) Dear Old Friend

First Atsumu, then we get Kiyoomi, and then in a drabble Osamu!!! Hell yeah! The interaction between the reader the yanderes is so different compared to your other fics and I really enjoyed drunk reader. Drunk reader is always fun would read anytime.

9.) Outrunning Fate and Breaking Point

People have said it before and I’ll say it again your souls mate fics are phenomenal. As if that wasn’t enough then you wrote drabbles about both fics. It’s like your trying to steal my heart here like damn. I loved both these fics so much that I couldn’t decide between the two and now they both get to be here. Part of this decision came from the fact that both fics have wildly different dynamics, and the other half was me unable to leave one off the list.

10.) Bite the Bullet

YAAS! Love the make out scene in this and the possessiveness of the Shiratoizawa team. My goodness just take all of my gold stars why don’t you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Side notes to the top ten list:

- Like I knew what Haikyuu!! was I just hadn’t read or watched it yet when I came across your works. So while I was reading everything I kept on having to google characters and read their wiki pages lol. You know a fanfic is good when you dedicate yourself to entering a new fandom.

-I get so nervous writing Japanese names since my autocorrect is so sensitive and corrects them when I don’t notice so I don’t use a lot of the character’s names lol

-I wrote this before Split came out otherwise it would have been on the list, and I also forgot that Final girl existed and then went to make sure I got all the titles right and was like 🤭 oh no. But alas the list was already made.

Whoohoo! Great Ask!

@kylorenvevo (or Diasterisms on ao3) is such a phenomenal writer. Her work is always so incredibly detailed and engrossing, especially their multi-chapter fics. She puts so much effort into characterization and world-building it’s incredible and absolutely a joy to read. Even her one-shots and shorter fics are always so well written and the relationships are great. She mixes drama and levity to form this great balance of excellent prose. 10/10 go check her out if you like Reylo. 

@justanothermarvelgirl is a godsend to the ScarletVision fandom cus HOLY CRAP is her work incredible. I’m pretty sure I’ve read every single one of her fics so to say that I am in love with the way she writes Wanda and Vision would be an understatement. All of her stories are so fun and creative and I reread her one-shots quite often. 

@thelilacfield on ao3 is a one-shot GOD! Their work is addictive and I distinctly remember one night reading all of their ScarletVision one-shots until like, 3 am. It was bad but AMAZING! They have a wide variety of different AUs and mix up the relationship dynamic with every fic they write which I love. I go back and reread their fics constantly!

Enemies to lovers is probably my favorite trope of all time, but it needs to be done well for me to be truly satisfied. I am also a sucker for royalty or medieval AUs. And, of course, the soulmate trope can never be outdone :D

2018 Fic Year In Review

I wasn’t tagged to do this unlike some but I’ve been meaning to do one of these to commemorate my first year in fandom and writing fanfic.

Total number of completed stories: 6 stories! More than I’ve written in my whole life if I’m honest.

Total word count: 26,295 words, not including the massive amount of unedited draft hiding in my docs. Wow! I’ve written a lot!!

Fandoms written in: Sherlock

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? I definitely wrote more than expected. I started this year expecting it to be another boring year like all the rest, and then I found fanfic and I took to it like a fish to water.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? Hmmmmmm, hard one. I honestly think, as much as I adore Selva Oscura, it’s a bit rough around the edges, it needs refining. So I honestly think my favorite is I-L-O-V-E-Y-O-U, the holmestice fic I wrote for @pagimag

Did you take any writing risks this year? I think the only risks I took were starting writing in the first place! It was very daunting, starting writing amidst the plethora of phenomenal writing cached throughout the internet, but I faced it and I’m getting better every day.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? I haven’t really thought about it. I guess my goal would be to finish Selva Oscura and get featured on a rec list

Best story of the year? Ummmmm, I think it’s a tie between Selva Oscura and I-L-O-V-E-Y-O-U. Selva is less consistent in its awesomeness because the beginning is rough, but as it goes on it gets better as my writing improves. I-L-O-V-E-Y-O-U is very consistent in its amazingness and I spent a lot of time on it, but overall I don’t think it can beat Selva

Most popular story of the year? Selva Oscura is definitely my most popular by far, although that is partially because I have advertised it agressively and it has been up the longest.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I think I-L-O-V-E-Y-O-U is the most under-appreciated. It is my second longest fic and it took me a really long time to write considering its length, but it has very few kudos in comparison to some of my other works.

Most fun story to write: My most fun story to write was probably Mistletoe! This little ficlet was short and sweet, I wrote it mostly because I was bored so I asked for some prompts. Many thanks to @icandothisalldayy for the prompt for Mistletoe. I was giggling my head off the whole time writing it and I still giggle when I go back to reread it just for fun.

Most unintentionally telling story: Ummm, I don’t quite get this question. i guess most telling about me? That would probably be Colds and Cuddles. I am Sherlock, literally. The whole point of this story was for me to live vicariously through them because I was so miserable and no one would cuddle me or take care of me because my family sucks, so yeah.

Biggest disappointment: I don’t think I have any. Honestly. Just having this amazing escape with wonderful people who love my fic overrides any trivial disappointments I encountered this year in my writing.

Biggest surprise: I think probably the biggest surprise was when @88thparallel commented on Selva Oscura a few days after I posted it. Their comment was my first longer comment and at that time I was new to fandom, @88thparallel was basically a celebrity in my book, still is TBH. To receive that comment, which said “ Oh my gosh, this is already so great! I can't wait to see where you go with it! Poor Sherlock, I can't imagine how he would deal with something like that, but I think you hit the nail on the head! Definitely subscribed to this one! Bravo!” left me screeching for days!!! I couldn’t believed somebody like my work so much.

1) How old were you when you first starting writing fan-fiction?

I think I was 12. My best friend at the time and I wrote Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fanfic. We also put ourselves into the stories as OCs. I also wrote for Full Metal Alchemist, InuYasha, I also had my own HP fics, and I think I even had an Eregon oneshot at some point when I started lol. I’m confident there’s more, but it’s been such a long time.

2) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.

I actually really enjoy both. Like, with reader inserts, I can inject a lot of my (or my friends) quirks and fears and insecurities into the reader and get messages back from readers saying that they really connected with the story or the reader. And OC’s are always fun because they have their own personality and it’s fun for me to figure out who they are.

3) What is your favorite genre to write for?

Fluffffffff. Yall know I can’t write a story without a happy ending.

4) If you had to delete one of your stories and never speak of it again, which would it be and why?

Surprisingly, I don’t think I have one. They’re all fine. I wish I had time to go through and kind of update a few of them, but there’s not really any that I’m super embarrassed by.

5) When is your preferred time to write?

First thing in the morning. Right after I wake up. It doesn’t happen very often, but it’s easiest then. I’m not bogged down by my jobs or my brain. It’s easiest to get into a good headspace.

6) Where do you take your inspiration from?

Usually from Sarah or other friends–the stories they tell, the things I read or see.

7) What’s your favorite scene that you’ve written?

Hmm..there’s a scene in my 40’s series that I’m pretty proud of. The reader, Bucky, and Steve are all reunited at long last and it’s really sweet and I dunno I really just love it.

But, if we’re going off of fics that I’ve posted…this is probably going to sound so bad, but the Kennedy assassination in Control was interesting to write. I actually watched old news footage of it. The chaos, the panic, the craziness, and then having her reunite with the Soldier and there’s a little spark is just ugh. It’s one of my favorites.

8) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?

Not yet. Luckily, my followers and readers have been incredibly kind. I’ve never really had any hate or criticism for my stories.

9) Who is your favorite character to write for? Why?

This should be easy to tell, but it’s Bucky. Lol He’s got such an interesting depth and so many layers and I know I always write him so soft and loving but I also love to read fics where he’s the Soldier and the ones that explore the different sides of him. Someday I want to write those different shades of Bucky.

10) Who is your least favorite character to write for? Why?

I don’t have a whole lot of experience writing a lot of the characters, so I can’t really pick one. It feels unfair. I would like to write more for other characters to be a stronger author and to have some variety.

11) How do you come up with the titles for your stories?

I’m so unoriginal when it comes to titles, tbh. Like, my most creative one was Nomonakalo and that’s literally because I was looking for “apocalypse” in Xhosa. But I didn’t like any of the translations for “apocalypse” so I looked up synonyms until I landed on “devastation,” and here we are. The others, are song titles, like Control. And some are a word or two about the story, like Midnight Snack, or Partner.

12) What do you think is the best idea you’ve had for a story so far?

Nomonakalo is the best idea I’ve ever had. I hope to continue it someday even though it didn’t get a lot of love. I also have a Princess Bride au on ice in the back of my brain that I’m pretty sure is gonna be fantastic.

13) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?

Oh god so many. My poor babies. I’m not inspired by the request or they’ve gotten to be too big for me to handle.

14) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to?

Maybe Partner or Blind Date. Or even a sequel to Cuddle Drabbles, but the focus would be on Steve instead. I’ve been playing with the ideas of a Steve Cuddle Drabbles for a really long time.

15) Are there any stories that you wished you’d ended differently?

Road to Schkeuditz. I hated that it ended so angsty. I wanted to do more, but I didn’t know the timeline and when Bucky would wake up. But I think I might write a little something someday about the reader visiting him in Wakanda after he’s healed.

16) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?

I have so, so many, but I’m gonna do the first three that came to mind.

I admire @sarahwroteathing. I know she’s my best friend, but guys. G u y s. Sarah’s so talented. I admire her work ethic and how hard she works on her stories. Soundtrack has been giving her grief for over a year, and she’s still working on it. It’s still one of the best stories I’ve ever read and it amazes me how much care she puts into her writing.

@soldatbarnes is also another great friend and amazing author. I also love how she perseveres through her tough times. She amazes me. I’ll see her posts about not being inspired to write, or wishing she had more time to do so, and then she’ll come out with an amazing story that’s beautifully written. She’s incredible.

@bitsandbobsandstuff is fucking phenomenal. I love her writing. It’s so in depth and wonderfully crafted. I aspire to be as amazing as she is.

17) Do you have a story that you look back on and cringe when you reread it?

I’m probably gonna get hate for this, but i can’t reread the Cuddle Drabbles. It’s my first time writing and posting for the MCU and I can tell. It’s cringey to me. But I get such sweet messages about it every now and again, and I can’t bring myself to change it.

18) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?

I do it both ways. Sometimes a focus playlist is needed and other times my brain can’t think if there’s any noise. Just depends on what it is.

19) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story?

Yep. Chin Up, Princess made me cry. It was what I needed someone to say to me, and having it come from Tony just made me more emotional than I had anticipated.

20) Which part of your fics have been the hardest to write?

I overthink action scenes. I struggle with thinking it sounds forced or unorganic, sometimes.

21) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?

Umm both. I make an outline just to know where I’m going, but sometimes it diverges because it’ll flow a different way while I’m writing it.

22) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fan-fiction?

How addicting the praise can be, and sometimes it doesn’t seem like enough. I love getting sweet messages more than I could ever attempt to tell you.

23) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?

Yes. Nomonakalooooooooo. My poor baby. I worked the hardest on it and it has the least amount of notes of any of my fics.

24) In contrast to 23 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?

No, not really. Sometimes, I’ll see someone start the Cuddle Drabbles or Road to Schkeuditz and I’ll think “oh here we go, they’re gonna flood my notifications with likes” but I mean that’s the most that happens lol

25) Are any of your characters based on real people?

Um, a few. But, it’s pretty minor. The reader in A December Deception has some of Sarah’s mannerisms, and Morgan in Handsome Stranger is basically my friend Morgan. I have an OC in my 40’s series based on my friend Cassidy, and the reader’s best friend in a wedding fic is essentially Sarah. (I mean, she’s marrying Steve. How could I not make her the bride? Lol)

26) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?

Sarah called Nomonakalo “emotionally excellent” and I still haven’t recovered from it. She sent me an email responding to everything. It was practically an essay. I still reread it when I feel like quitting.

27) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?

“The reader says ‘dude’ too much,” and “focus more on Bucky’s feelings.” I don’t really get a whole lot of negative feedback.

28) Do you share your story ideas with anyone else or do you keep them close to your chest?

Sarah and Cassidy are pretty much the people I’ll run to. But, I will keep them close to my chest if I’m not sure I want to proceed with the story or not.

29) Do people know you write fan-fiction?

Some do, yeah. My friend Ashlee actually found some of my writing and actually read it. I wasn’t prepared for that. It’s unclear if my family knows that I still do, but they definitely knew that I did when I was a kid.

30) What’s your favorite minor character you’ve written?

Probably Sam in Road to Schkeuditz. I had a lot of fun with him!

31) What spurs you on during the writing process?

Feedback. It really does keep me going. Seeing others enjoying what I’m writing about keeps me motivated to finish a story.

32) What’s your favorite trope to write?

So, after deliberation with Sarah, I’ve realized that I don’t have a favorite to write. I haven’t written enough to really have a favorite!

33) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?

The first fic ever? No. God no. I can’t remember. It was probably my friend’s HP fanfic. I can remember the first fic I read for supernatural was from Mimi, and the first from the MCU was from Tesla. But I don’t remember what the stories were.

34) If you could write only angst, fluff or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

Fluff. Always fluff. I can’t have a story end on a sad or bad note. It always has to have a happy ending.

I know I’m almost a month late, but I am so close to being finished! (And hey, at least I got this one up before Christmas

Day 23 - Christmas

“Alone on Christmas Eve,” Yosuke sighed, staring up at the ceiling of his room. His parents had left for Okina - this was one of the rare days of the year where they both had the time away from work and no other obligations, so they were out on a well-deserved date. Teddie had volunteered for the Christmas Eve shift at Junes, and Yosuke hadn’t been able to talk him out of it. The bear was learning the hard way that the Christmas Eve shift was one of the worst shifts of the entire year. Yosuke was a little glad for the silence, but at the same time he was still a little sad about it. After all, why would he want to be alone on Christmas Eve when he could be spending it with someone he liked?

Then again, up until about a month ago, “someone he liked” would have absolutely been some cute girl. He was kind of glad that he wasn’t spending Christmas Eve with the person that he liked, because he was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that he liked Souji. He wasn’t sure why. (No, that was a lie. He knew perfectly well why he was crushing on Souji, he just didn’t want to admit it to himself.) He wasn’t sure how. (Again, that was a lie. It was hard not to fall for your best friend when your best friend was the only person you could really talk to, who would really listen to you, who didn’t judge you or tease you.) He just knew that he was sort of glad that he wasn’t spending Christmas Eve with Souji, because there was no way he wouldn’t make an absolute fool of himself if he did.

But then again, if Souji wasn’t spending Christmas Eve with him, he was probably spending it with one of the girls. Then again, over the months of their friendship Souji hadn’t said anything to indicate which one of them he liked, but Yosuke was sure it had to be one of them. Rise was flirting with him nonstop, and she was drop-dead gorgeous and funny and successful...so it was probably her. But then again, Yukiko seemed to be into Souji too, and she was beautiful and refined and charming...there was the “Amagi Challenge” for a reason, after all. But even if Souji didn’t want to go for either of them, there was Chie, and Yosuke had to admit that she was really cute, and cheerful and energetic, and she had legs for days. Or maybe Souji liked Naoto? She might be kind of quiet, but Yosuke had seen Naoto’s cute side, and plus she was smart - like, really smart. If Souji was into smart girls, Naoto was definitely a shoe-in.

The point was, Souji was absolutely dating one of them. He had to be. Who wouldn’t? So Yosuke wouldn’t be spending Christmas Eve with him, and since there wasn’t anybody else he wanted to spend Christmas Eve with, he might as well play a video game or something.

Just as got up to head over to his computer, his phone chirped. Without thinking or looking at it he grabbed the phone and unlocked it, and nearly threw it across the room in surprise.

> Are you busy tonight? Want to hang out?

Yosuke blinked, read the message again, reread the message again, made sure the sender was actually Souji, and then replied.

>> u kno its xmas eve rite

He got a response back incredibly quickly.

> Yes? Are you busy?

Yosuke contemplated the message for a second, wondering what weird parallel dimension he’d wandered into, before replying.

>> rn’t u w/ 1 of the girls?

> No? Why would I be?

What in the world was going on here? He decided to forego texting and just call Souji.

“Yosuke? What is it?” Souji’s voice came through the receiver. Yosuke tried not to panic.

“I figured this would be faster than texting. No I’m not busy but...it’s Christmas Eve, Partner,” Yosuke explained. He could almost hear one of Souji’s eyebrows raise.

“We’ve established that,” Souji replied, and Yosuke let out a frustrated sigh.

“Couples hang out on Christmas Eve, Partner. Shouldn’t you be with one of the girls?” he asked.

“I’m not dating any of them,” Souji answered, and Yosuke bit his tongue not to answer with ‘you liar’.

“Okay but...don’t you want to be? I guarantee if you call any of them right now, they’ll come running,” he continued.

“I don’t want to date any of them,” Souji replied.

“Are you kidding me?” Yosuke asked, with an annoyed huff.

“If you don’t want to come over, I understand,” Souji said.

“N-no! It’s not that, it’s just…” Yosuke trailed off, biting his lip.

“What?” Souji asked.

“Guys don’t usually hang out together on Christmas Eve, that’s all,” Yosuke muttered.

“Is there something wrong with wanting to hang out with your best friend on Christmas Eve?” Souji asked, and Yosuke felt simultaneously happy that Souji had called him his best friend, and terrified because he was really, really considering saying yes and going over there, and he didn’t know what he would do but he was sure it was going to be phenomenally stupid.

“Yes! I mean, no, I mean...gah, it just seems kind of...gay, doesn’t it? Christmas Eve is for couples, not friends,” Yosuke groaned.

“...I get it,” Souji sighed. His voice sounded kind of...tight now. Yosuke started to low-key panic. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out, or anything.”

Damn it, now he’d just made an ass of himself!

“No no, I’m sorry. I’ll...look, I’ll come over, okay?” Yosuke said, and Souji sighed.

“I don’t want you to do something you clearly don’t want to do, Yosuke,” he replied.

“I do want to, though! I really do!” Yosuke exclaimed, exasperated. “I just wish it wasn’t so...that I wasn’t so...ugh.”

Open mouth, insert foot.

“I’ll be over in fifteen minutes, okay? Do I need to bring anything?” Yosuke asked, and he heard Souji give a little laugh in response.

“Don’t worry about it, just come over, okay?” he replied.

“Yeah, sure,” Yosuke grumbled, hanging up. He looked at the phone for a moment and sighed.

Maybe he should just...tell him. Souji was an understanding guy, and he honestly couldn’t see him avoiding Yosuke or not wanting to be friends with him. He’d probably let him down gently, and Yosuke hated the fact that being let down gently sounded pretty appealing. It was better than being laughed at by a girl, after all. Heck, there were times when Souji would give him a peculiar look, or stare at him a little too long, that made him think that maybe, just maybe, Souji was into him too, and-

And that was as far as he was letting that train of thought go. There was no way Souji liked him, anyway. And, well, that was fine. He could pour his feelings out to Souji and get rejected, and then he could move on with his life.

He spent the whole walk over to the Dojima residence psyching himself up to confess.

When Souji opened the door and some absolutely delicious smells wafted out of the doorway, all Yosuke could think was how lucky he was, to be able to get all of this off of his chest and get some good food out of the deal.

“Damn, smells good,” he praised as he stepped inside, taking off his shoes at the entrance. Souji laughed. Yosuke noticed the lack of shoes at the entrance and paused.

“Where are Nanako-chan and Dojima-san?” he asked.

“At the hospital. They went for their hopefully final check-up,” Souji explained, and Yosuke winced.

“On Christmas Eve? What rotten luck,” he replied, and Souji nodded.

“Yeah. They’ll be gone until night and...um, I kind of didn’t want to be alone, so thanks for coming over,” Souji admitted, and Yosuke felt like a jerk.

“Sure…” he trailed off, with  an inaudible sigh. “Sorry...I was so preoccupied with it being Christmas Eve.”

“It’s fine. I wasn’t thinking,” Souji apologized, and Yosuke winced again.

“Hey, hey, you’ve got nothing to apologize for, Partner. I’m being an idiot,” Yosuke said. He sighed. “I just...Christmas Eve is always frustrating for me, since I never get to spend it with… y’know, a special person.” Souji turned to look at him with a raised eyebrow, and he panicked. “N-not that you’re not special! I mean, uh, special in the dating way, y’know? And, ugh, it’s hard not to think about that stuff on Christmas Eve, right? So...so don’t worry about it. It’s just me being a jerk, as usual.”

“You’re not being a jerk,” Souji corrected him, his voice quiet.  “And...thanks for coming over, even though this is a hard day for you.”

“It’s alright. Honestly, I’m kind of glad to be able to spend Christmas Eve with someone that isn’t my parents,” Yosuke replied. Souji laughed.

“Even if that person is just me and not a cute girl?” he teased, and Yosuke rolled his eyes.

“I’d rather spend time with you than a cute girl anyway,” he replied. Souji blinked, mouth open, and then smirked when Yosuke finally realized just what he’d said, and started to turn red. “T-that’s not what I...shut up!”

“I didn’t say anything,” Souji pointed out, snickering. Yosuke pouted, and Souji turned toward the kitchen. “Alright, come on. Let’s go ahead and eat, and-” Yosuke stopped him with a hand on one of his wrists, and he looked back at him, curious.

“A-actually, Partner, there’s something I wanna talk to you about first,” he said, and couldn’t quite look him in the eyes.

“Sounds serious,” Souji replied, turning back and giving Yosuke his full attention. “Is everything okay?

“I’ve had a lot on my mind lately,” Yosuke said, with a sigh. “And I’ve got some stuff I really need to get off my chest. I just...I just hope you don’t hate me afterwards.”

“What is it?” Souji asked, after Yosuke fell silent. Yosuke took a deep breath and, somehow, mustered up the courage to look him in the face.

“Let me down gently, okay Partner? I really like you,” he finally said. Souji looked stunned, staring at Yosuke almost uncomprehendingly. Yosuke audibly swallowed, and tried waiting for him to speak, but got too nervous. “I-I...I know that’s real rich, coming from me, after the way I treated Kanji and how I’ve been acting since the bathhouse. And it won’t surprise me if you don’t feel the same way...I mean, why would you? I just...I needed to get this out in the open, so you can reject me and I can get over myself.”

There were a few agonizing moments of total silence as Souji stared at him, and Yosuke felt himself getting more and more flustered as time went on. Finally, Souji spoke.

“I can’t,” he said. Can’t what? Be Yosuke’s friend anymore? Be around him anymore?

“Can’t what?” Yosuke managed to ask, though his jaw almost refused to work.

“I can’t reject you,” Souji finally continued. Yosuke stared at him, wide-eyed.

“Huh?” he asked, and Souji gave a sad smile.

“I can’t reject you because...I like you too,” he said. All of a sudden, Yosuke felt a rush of pure, warm happiness and a spike of cold, terrible fear. He wanted to date Souji, he wanted it so bad but...what if he messed everything up? What if he lost his best friend because he was selfish? What would everyone else think? What-

“Oh,” he managed to squeak, out of a throat that was almost uncooperative.

“Were you hoping to get rejected?” Souji asked, stepping closer to Yosuke. They were only a few inches apart now. Yosuke swallowed.

“Yes…? I mean, sort of. I just didn’t want to have to feel like this any more,” Yosuke managed, staring firmly at the floorboards in front of him.

“This?” Souji prompted, and Yosuke sighed.

“Like I have a huge, stupid secret and I can’t ever let anyone find out. Like being around you is the best feeling in the world and terrifying all at the same time. Like every time you smile at one of the girls my heart breaks,” he mumbled, still looking at the floor.

“Partner,” Souji said, and his voice was full of affection, but also kind of melancholy. Yosuke looked up, to find him giving him a pained smile. “Now you know how I’ve been feeling since the summer.”

“Wh… r-really?” Yosuke asked in response, and Souji nodded. He was blushing, which was both extremely fascinating and extremely cute.

“Except I never had any kind of hope that you’d ever return my feelings,” Souji continued. “You made it very clear that you were straight, so I never let myself have any hope.”

“Sorry,” Yosuke sighed.

“What are you apologizing for?” Souji asked, and Yosuke groaned.

“If I’d realized this sooner, I could’ve spared us both a lot of pain,” he replied.

“You needed time to come to terms with it, I’m not going to fault you for that. And I’m glad you finally figured it out,” Souji said.

“Me too,” Yosuke replied. Souji nodded, and then he cautiously stepped a little closer to Yosuke, reaching up and setting a hand on his shoulder. Yosuke managed to keep himself from flinching away from the touch, but he couldn’t help the way his heart raced. Souji looked him in the eyes.

“Is this okay?” he asked, and Yosuke nodded, several times, emphatically. Souji shuffled even closer. They weren’t quite touching yet, but there wasn’t a lot of space left between them. “You’ll tell me if I go to far, right?”

“Of course,” Yosuke said out loud. He wanted to say that there was no way Souji could ever go too far, but kept that to himself...for now at least. Souji raised his other hand up and gently placed it on the side of Yosuke’s face, fingertips tangling in the hair on the back of his neck. Yosuke was surprised to find himself leaning into the touch, eyes fluttering shut for a moment. In retaliation he reached his own hands up, looping his arms around Souji’s neck and pulling him closer, until their bodies were pressed against each-other and their mouths were barely an inch apart. Souji looked surprised, but his lips curved into a small smirk. Yosuke couldn’t bring himself to care that arms-around-the-neck was what a girl did.

Yosuke honestly didn’t know which one of them moved first, only that they were kissing all of a sudden and it was about a thousand times better than he’d ever let himself imagine it would be. Souji’s mouth was warm, and it felt like little crackles of electricity were spreading across his skin from everywhere Souji was touching. He had a passing thought of being weak to electricity, but dismissed it immediately in favor of how good it felt when Souji started toying with his hair. They eventually separated, but only barely.

“Merry Christmas,” Yosuke breathed, and Souji laughed, before going back in for another kiss. This time Souji slid his arms around Yosuke’s torso and pulled them more firmly together, and Yosuke felt a little light headed. When Souji pulled away to breathe, Yosuke tried to chase his lips. Souji smirked, and Yosuke knew this was the best decision he’d ever made. He started to lean in for another kiss, but his stomach chose that moment to let out a huge, audible growl. Souji laughed and Yosuke blushed and glared down at his stomach, but Souji was already disentangling them.

“Let’s eat. I got a little carried away, so I made a bunch of different foods…” he said, taking Yosuke’s hand and leading him into the kitchen. Yosuke knew he probably had the most lovestruck look on his face, but he honestly didn’t care. He liked his best friend, and Souji liked him back, and he was getting to eat delicious food. Best Christmas Eve ever.

Summer is finally upon us! I’ve been kicking off the season with plenty of reading by the pool and beach, having read 12 books this month, and staying in the AC watching way more than I realized!

The Bold Type- Season 2 of The Bold Type just started this month, and I am obsessed with what  is easily Freeform’s best TV show. I loved reading Teen Vogue and Seventeen growing up (middle school me dreamed of being a fashion journalist), so I love the news/magazine/fashion/social media setting that makes up The Bold Type. Why can’t there be more than one episode each week??

Chef’s Table: Christina Tosi- Living close to NYC constantly makes you aware of what’s hot in the dessert scene, so I had to watch Christina Tosi’s episode of Netflix’s Chef’s Table. Christina is the owner of Milk Bar, a popular dessert & ice cream chain that is known for it’s cereal milk  ice cream.

The Staircase- Probably the most unexpected watch this month, like many, I have become obsessed with Neftlix’s documentary series called The Staircase (apparently I’ve also become a bit obsessed with documentaries this month??). My parents really enjoyed Making a Murderer, so I decided to watch this new crime docuseries with them. And after finishing its fourteen episodes, I. am. Still. OBSSESSED. And can’t figure who’s guilty.

Ocean’s Eight– Since Ocean’s Eleven is one of my favorite movies, I had to see its female powerhouse companion, Ocean’s Eight. After seeing some mixed reviews, I am so happy to report that I loveddd Ocean’s Eight! It has such a phenomenal cast and had me laughing out loud throughout.

The Handmaid’s Tale- My love for my local library grew for this fangirl who currently doesn’t have Hulu for ordering Season 1 of The Handmaid’s Tale. Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale was the best book I read in high school and although I can only speak for the first season, I am so impressed by it in general and how close it is to the book.

Book Expo and Book Con 2018- Sorry not sorry, but I think know that I will never stop talking about Book Expo and Book Con, aka the best bookish four days EVER. I have experience posts for all four days above along with my combined haul. In short, I am beyond grateful that I was able to attend both events because I received SO many amazing anticipated releases and getting to meet SO many fellow booknerds. It’s been really fun to keep in touch with everyone I met online this month!

Starting a New Blogging Notebook- I’m almost done with my original blogging notebook that I started in March 2017 (when I officially full it, it’ll be a life happening in July!). I use my notebook for almost anything involving my blog- scheduling, reading notes, post ideas, TBRs,etc. With this new notebook, I’m going to keep track of my monthly stats (views and follower counts) and try to keep track of comments, which I am inspired to do so by Dani of Perspective of a Writer (check out her awesome post where…).

Going to Milk Bar- I’ve always wanted to go to Milk Bar, but Chef’s Table sent me there ASAP. On my most recent trip to the city, I went to the midtown location and if there’s one place that lives up to the hype, it’s Milk Bar. I had the cereal milk soft serve with rainbow sprinkles and it tasted so good- it really does taste like the milk in a bowl of cornflakes! I also picked up some cookies to take home for my family, which were compost, cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow, and chocolate chocolate. I’m definitely going to try and go there again for ice cream (I want to try pretzel and chocolate) or crack (butter) pie.

Instagram Game Update- Since April, I’ve been working on improving my Instagram/bookstagram game. Over the past two months, I’ve gained about 60 followers and I’ve really pushed myself to post at least 6 times a week, if not everyday. This month was especially fun because I was featured on Siobhan Vivian’s and Turner Publishing’s Instagram Stories for Stay Sweet and Mammoth respectively.

ALSO I AM SO EXCITED AND THANKFUL TO TURNER PUBLISHING FOR SENDING ME AN ARC OF MAMMOUTH BY JILL BAGUCHINSKY, AKA ONE OF MY MOST ANTICIPATED 2018 RELEASES! Honestly, June was my best book mail month to date between preorder incentives for Save the Date and Stay Sweet, Mammouth, Sadie by Courtney Summers from St. Martin’s Press, blog tours for Save the Date and The Accidental Bad Girl, and books for trade (I got Royals by Rachel Hawkins and an ARC of Aminah Mae Safi’s Not the Girls You’re Looking For).
