Eric Carmen Dead: 'Hungry Eyes' & 'All by Myself' Singer/Writer Was 74
Eric Carmen, the hitmaker behind ’70s and ’80s smashes like “All By Myself” and “Hungry Eyes,” has died at age 74, his wife Amy confirms.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” a message posted to his website, Facebook and X account reads. “It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. ‘Love Is All That Matters…Faithful and Forever,'” the message concludes, signed by Amy Carmen, his wife of eight years.

The Raspberries - Goin' Nowhere Tonight (1972)
Kind of a country-Beatles type feel on this song featuring Dave Smalley on vocals. A bit like a Ringo song with McCartney singing the chorus.

Speaking of the Raspberries and the Hollies
What the heck was up with that guitar break at 2:40 into My Sharona?
It sounds like the engineer spliced the local 38 Special cover band’s rehearsal tape in to kill time waiting for the Going To A Go-Go drums to come around again.
OK, back to work.

In early 1973, Capitol Records embarked on a Raspberries promotional campaign aimed squarely at the lucrative youth market, girls in particular. In conjunction with Star, the Raspberries Rollswagen sweepstakes was announced in the magazine's debut issue and was promoted through its fourth issue with entries accepted through the end of May.
Teena Bouington won.

“His Music Will be His Lasting Legacy;” Raspberries Co-founder and Solo Artist Eric Carmen Dies at 74
Raspberries co-founder and solo artist Eric Carmen, the songwriter and voice of “Go all the Way,” “All By Myself” and other power-pop staples, has died.
“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep over the weekend,” Carmen’s wife, Amy Carmen, said in a March 11 statement.
“It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy.”
Carmen was 74; no cause of death was given.
The Raspberries released a handful of early-1970s albums and hit big with “Go all the Way.”
The band toured with KISS and Carmen was “a true rocker at heart,” Paul Stanley said.
“His voice had elements of (Paul) McCartney and (Humble Pie’s) Steve Marriott,” Stanley said. “The Raspberries …(were) a killer band live and I loved their records.”
After the group dissolved, Carmen launched a solo career that yielded six LPs and such hits as “All by Myself,” “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again” and “Hungry Eyes.”
Former Wings drummer Laurence Juber and session bassist Leland Sklar were among the musicians who posted memories of recording with Carmen in the ’70s.
“Heartbroken over Eric Carmen,” Fernando Perdomo said in a statement. “A true master. A true inspiration. R.I.P.”

January 2, 2023.
Well...I meant to queue this until January 4th...but it looks like a twofer day.
I RARELY post single songs unless they're part of a preorder. I do this for The Lemon Twigs "My Golden Years" for a few reasons. First, Stacey and I saw them play in Sacramento at the beginning of December and were blown away again. They didn't rock as hard as they did in February 2019, but the albums they were touring were quite different ("Go To School" vs. "Everything Harmony").
Second reason to post this: Captured Tracks is most certainly hyping a new album. Third reason: while there isn't a physical release of this song (yet), there are literally over a dozen physical releases by the still young D'Addario brothers. Finally, this song is just great and fits nicely with their more recent records.
The Lemon Twigs (New York) have really leaned into their Beach Boys, Byrds, Raspberries sound. I also love that Reza Matin (Uni Boys) is their touring drummer and that they've worked with Billy Tibbals.
So, let's enjoy this song thoroughly. And if you wonder what they sound like live, by all means check out the digital only live album.

The Choir - I Only Did It Cause I Felt So Lonely (1967)
Cleveland garage rockers the Choir had something of a hit with It’s Cold Outside in 1966.  This folk rock song was recorded in 1967 but never released until Bomp Records released it in 1976. Members Wally Bryson and Dave Smalley eventually became founding members of the Raspberries.
