"You... wah... huuh?!"

Grim exclaimed loudly, while Mika stared on in dumbfounded silence.

"That's... That's crazy! Why would you do that? CAN you do that?!"

The stranger finally tore his eyes away from the wall, turning back to Mika and their monster. It was hard to read the emotion on his face.

"Look, that's not the issue. We need to focus on getting Mika out of here before this whole place collapses, and I'm pretty sure this is our ticket. Let's just-"

"Excuse me? 'Not the issue'?"

Mika finally spoke, bringing Grim up to rest on their shoulders.

"No, I think it's a BIG issue! I don't have a lot of boundaries, but you have just stepped alllll over them, mister! I don't even know who you are, and you think you can just... do... this?!"

Clearly they were upset. Understandably so, considering the situation they were now apparently in. The other rolled his eyes, exasperated.

"For whatever record, my name's Farceur. Congratulations, now you know me. Look, I said I was sorry, alright? Can we drop it?"

In response, Mika marched up to Farceur and jabbed him in the chest with their finger, causing him to step back. His eyes widened a fraction of an inch, growing anger visible.

"We're not dropping it! I deserve an explanation, and we're not helping you 'til I get it!"

"I don't owe you a damn thing!"

While the two bickered, the blot coating the room began to suddenly ooze faster, flowing towards the middle. However, both Farceur and Mika seemed completely absorbed in their argument. Grim was, too, until he noticed the sudden growing darkness in the room.

"Um... guys?"

"God, if I'd known you were going to be this annoying, I would have left you to die in here!"

"You shouldn't have done this in the first place! What kind of insensitive prick just forces an OVERBLOT of all things onto someone and expects them to brush it off?"

"Guys? Helloooo?"

"You're the one stalling! I would have explained myself after everything if you just LISTENED instead of arguing with me!"

"Yeah, right! Like it would take you so long to do that now? You were probably just gonna pretend the whole thing never happened!"

"Shut up already! You don't know what I'd do, and it doesn't matter! Why can't you just worry about yourself?!"

"Both of you, be quiet! Something's- myagh?!"

The room seemed to suddenly shift with a roar, causing Mika to stumble and drop Grim to the floor. He landed with a splat and immediately shook off his fur, coughing up blot. He looked upward, where he saw that the roof was beginning to cave in on itself- most notably, though, was the advancing blot beginning to overtake the oversized beating heart.

Mika was instantly snapped out of the argument, looking around the collapsing room with a new fear. Farceur, on the other hand, was much too invested at this point to let it come to a stop. His hair was disheveled, face red and contorted into an expression of rage without any hint of masking it away.

"OH, fucking GREAT! Now look what you did, we're gonna die here because you can't just focus on what actually matters!"

They shot him a look, but he just kept going, moving closer to them much in the same way they did at the beginning of the argument.

"I hate you, you know that? I've hated you since I knew you existed. But oh, no, it's not 'right' for me to hate you because we've never actually met! Isn't that so stupid?"

They opened their mouth to reply, but suddenly Farceur reached up beside his head and slapped them across the face.

"You know what's stupid?! How you got to be happy, that's what! You got everything! It's not fucking fair! I hate it, I hate you, I hate you!"

It was like a child's tantrum. He was screaming now, stamping his foot on the ground with tears and snot running down his face, and as he ended off his sentence he stared into Mika's face as if to demand something of them.

Mika scoffed, which ended with a soft hiccup.

"You're such an asshole. I never did anything to you."

They turned around, scooped Grim off the ground, and left the room without saying another word, slamming the door as they went.

Part 1 2

It was incredibly disappointing to learn that the situation outside of that room was not much better.

Mika walked down the hall, listening to the sounds of creaking and cracking wood. The floor was flooded to their ankles now, coating their boots in thick, black ooze. Grim hopped out of their arms and splashed onto the floor, standing up on his hind legs.

"Hey, what's the long face for?"

Mika stopped and leaned against the wall. Slowly, they turned their head back in the direction they came from. Grim followed, and snorted.

"Don't tell me ya feel bad for that guy! He's been nothin' but a jerk this whole time!"

"I-" Mika pulled at the edge of their coat sleeve. "I just... Oh, you know I don't like being snappy at people. I don't want to leave him like that. It doesn't feel right."

"After he slapped you?! Yeesh, you're such a goody-two-shoes! If I was you, I'd give him a-one of these! Hyah!"

Grim mimed punching something in the air, which slowly turned into a mock battle with accompanying sound effects. Mika smiled softly at him, then took another glance down the hall. They shuddered suddenly as they watched part of the wall further back collapse inward.

The monster paused wrangling with his tail and gave Mika a concerned look, shaking his fur to try and get it clean again.

"You okay?"

He trotted up to them, tugging on their sock to get their attention. After a beat, they let out a soft chuckle, though it could be easily taken for a sob.

"Yeah...?"

The inflection of their voice made it sound like a question. Grim huffed and put his paws on his hips.

"I ain't hearing enough pep from you, minion Mika!"

Then his expression softened, just slightly.

"C'mon, gimme a smile. It's freaky seeing you so down in the dumps."

Mika sighed and tucked a strand of hair behind their ear. They squatted down against the wall and stared into Grim's eyes, pulling their lips into the best smile they could manage. Grim put a paw to his chin with a look of skepticism.

"Sorry if it's not great..."

Mika mumbled, returning to a more neutral expression.

"I'm- I'm really scared. I'm confused, I'm dying apparently, I don't know what I'm supposed to do, and-"

Grim reached up and swiped at the tip of Mika's nose, momentarily shocking them out of their state.

"Um, hello? Is this the real Mika I'm talking to? Subordinate extraordinaire, death-defying daredevil, go-with-your-gut Mika McKey? Seriously, when has anything ever stopped you?!"

They blinked slowly at him, before the silence told them that it hadn't been a rhetorical question. Quietly, they ventured a guess.

"...Never?"

"Whuzzat? I can't hear you!"

"Ne-, um, nothing's ever stopped me."

"That's right! So are we gonna stop 'cause things look a bit bad right now?"

"No..."

Mika sniffed, a genuine grin growing on their face. Grim took this as a sign that his little speech was working and pressed on with confidence.

"Are we gonna stop 'cause some egomaniac told us to?"

"No!"

"And are we gonna stop just 'cause we don't have a clue what we're doin'?!"

"No!"

At the last 'no', Mika pumped their fist in the air, their old energy gradually returning.

"Myah-ha-ha, that's the right answer! Now get on yer feet and-"

Mika suddenly leaned over and pressed a kiss to his little head. Grim froze up for a moment, then puffed his chest out proudly, which had the effect of making him look like a smug, round penguin. Mika wiped the back of their hand across their eyes and stood up.

"Aha... thanks, Grim, you're th'best."

"Of course I am! What kind of great and terrible leader do you take me for?"

"One of a kind."

They took a deep breath and let out their anxieties in a shaking breath. Of course they were still frightened beyond belief, who wouldn't be? But whatever happened now, it didn't seem to matter as much. They began to trudge through the muck again, heading in the direction we came from.

"So, where we headin' now?"

Grim climbed up into Mika's obnoxiously large coat pocket, seemingly tired of basically swimming in the blot.

"We need to go back to that room."

Mika rolled their eyes at Grim's inevitable groan.

"Farceur said that our ticket out was in there, right? We just need to figure out what he meant by that and we'll be set, but the only way to try is to be there."

"But do we have to be around that guy?"

"If he's still in there, yeah. Look, we're just gonna put it behind us for now, alright? We can talk to him later, but right now, he was right, we're on a time limit."

As if to serve as a reminder, a large portion of the ceiling suddenly fell down beside them and splashed Grim in the face. Mika jumped back with a yelp and eyed the new hole in the roof, then began to hurry.

"Sooo... what exactly am I looking at?"

Mika stood in front of the large heart, cringing every time it pulsated. They absolutely despised whatever was happening in this room, from the corpses of a familiar face hanging lifelessly on the walls and cieling, to the black sludge coating every surface and attempting to pull in everything it touched.

In their arms was a quivering Grim, facing the room with a determined smugness to his expression, though he was clearly frightened. How long had he been in here? A few minutes, or hours? Hell, even a few seconds was enough to give Mika the creeps. They gently stroked the monster's head, though unsure which one of them needed it more.

"All you've told me is that I need to fix something. Is this it? It doesn't look very... uh... fixable."

The stranger beside them didn't respond immediately, staring straight ahead with his lip twitching. For a man asking for help, he sure was hesitant to explain the problem. He grumbled under his breath, stamped his foot once (creating a horrible wet shlop sound) and turned his head over to Mika.

"You've overblotted."

Mika blinked slowly at him for several moments, not processing the statement. Luckily, Grim was there to respond for them.

"Myeh?! But, we're all standin' right here, and nothing's wrong with them!"

The other pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed aggressively, almost whistling with the force of the breath. "How do I explain... Look, THAT is your heart," he pointed at the beating heart in the middle of the room, "and THIS is your conscience." He jabbed a finger at Mika, poking them in the arm sharply.

"Con.. science... You mean, I'm not real?!"

"Please." He rolled his eyes. "It's like... being in a dream. With me, and Grim, and whoever the hell those guys are." He gestured to the door, seemingly referring to the other people they'd met on the way here.

"Oh." It still didn't make sense to them, but they nodded along. "Okay... but, wait, if you're not lying or anything, how'd I overblot in the first place? I don't have any magic, so I can't build blot, right?"

"Apparently not. I don't know what you've been doing, but there was a ton of it in your body. I really just needed to-"

The other looked away and crossed his arms. When Mika followed his gaze, they saw it led to one of the... bodies... on the walls. He gripped his sleeve tightly.

"... Look, I... I'm sorry. I got upset and I let it get in the way of my morals, I guess. I don't know. I don't know what I was thinking."

Grim folded his firey ears back. "Quit dancin' around the question and spit it out, myeh! Tell us what happened already!"

It was silent in the room for a few moments.

"... I forced you to overblot."

The Ramshacklabyrinth is a shared conciousness of sorts, so your characters aren't really there physically. But in the real world they're taking a nice long nap :) I sure hope they weren't doing anything beforehand

I wonder how would mika react to rose?Honestly, rose would be a little bit confused but would be curious about this new alternative universe. (In his, night raven is actually a college instead of a high school)

I think his and mika's personalities would mash up well, both being adventurous, curious, kind, and both of them are chaotic.

Also he would offer to help her on finding her grim, since it seemed some entity took him.

And a part of rose feels like mika reminds him of someone, a curious, mischievous but kind mouse. (Mickey!)

I like the idea of these two together, almost like a sort of mentor-apprentice relationship? With Rose being older and more assertive, he could probably guide Mika around being a leader and whatnot.

Farceur isn't a big fan of Rose, though the mention of that name likely isn't helping his already thin patience and prickly attitude. He makes sure there's as much distance as possible between them.
