I wrote something about transphobia and the ire of body modification when it comes to 'projecting' the gender which people feel they are apart of, typically through hormones - this is my best and uneducated dissection of the argument.
But these transphobes are very hasty to leap on the counterargument, "Why don't you identify as black?" or "why don't you identify as 62?" Because of course cultural identities are the same as hormones which drive the attraction and attachment of people in a culture.
At the same time the transphobes FORGET that we do have modifying surgery and corrective procedures for people who, hey, some people do WANT TO LOOK YOUNGER. So they get bacterial injections to fill out the lines and remove wrinkles. They have their skin cut to remove tummies, they butcher their faces to look a certain way - to look younger, or to get a certain shape of the eyes. And all of this can come with botched procedures. You can watch botch and see what happens when people - let me slide in here consenting adults - all the same, botched procedures happen in a situation where the surgeon is not age-phobic, because risks are involved that are at time beyond the best practice of the surgeon.
What other modifications do we have? Mmm... yes, as I recall. If someone's body is not the correct shape, or it does not function the right way - to offer a fulfilled and dignified lifestyle - then modification is available to those who can afford it. If a person has lost their leg, they can get a prosthetic to modifying their movement, so they are not reliant on crutches or a wheelchair.
If someone has been badly burned or they have suffered disfigurement, then there are options for corrective surgery to repair the damage, and prosthetics to protect and improve their appearance, to appease the individual who has been maimed - and I point out appease and protect the individual, because marring can have significant dangers if there are traumatic openings in the tissue, which endanger the inner tissues to infection or further damage from light trauma. Scars are beautiful and incredible, but if someone is uncomfortable of the tissue has trauma that impedes the person's health - mental or anatomical, THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO PURSUE SURGICAL PROCEDURES FOR THEIR MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. Moving on, if someone has issues with the shape of their body that impedes their health, like bowled rib cages that crush the heart, or misplaced ribs that press on the lungs, or if their nose bridge did not form, or they have a cleft lip as a child - and al of that impedes the persons physical health, then they have noncontroversial rights to pursue corrective surgery.
And no one bats an eye. No one - including myself (except maybe Jehovah and the Amish) - will fight these people when they need modifying surgery for mental, emotional, or of fuking course physical issues that need addressing. In some cases, surgeons will assist with those who have non-life impeding shapes or body aging, with pursuing therapy treatment. Because no matter the healthy benefits of a procedure, there is always a risk of complications. Especially further down the line.
But not many people talk about the botched botox injections that leave celebrities ... in worse conditions than a few wrinkles.
HOWEVER. When it comes to gender dysphoria - suddenly everyone has an opinion about the 'butchery' consenting and legal adults partake in, when they do not feel that their body is the correct shape. And we can get into a whole other debate about therapy and whatever available to anyone who feels gender dysphoria, but the FACT OF THE MATTER IS, this is not about you or I. This is a matter between the surgeon, the therapist, the holy ghost, and the family members who personally know the person who is seeking surgery.
I don't think anyone ever has needed a therapists consent to get a lip lift, or liposuction. But Walsh and Shaprion will be highly offended, and drama-concerned that adults what to 'magically' fix their bodies, the way they see fit. And while I do agree, people really should have extended counsel on these procedures, because pursuing ANY FORM OF SURGICAL PROCEDURE comes with risk, and can lead to dissonance. It only exists as a political debate and offense because it has to do with the reproductive organs and shape, and clearly right wingers are very 'concerned' and touch bit skittsh that someone they might have had a conversation with has transitioned from another gender - slash - sex. But the rest of us can have conversations with cis-gender people daily and not implode if someone might have have a bacterial injection to make them look 20 years younger.
It's weird how politicians are so fixated on what people have under their clothing.
You identify as an attack helicopter? You do you, boo. I fuking don't give a rats fat hanging testie. As long as you're not doing a cringe tiktok smashing a rainbow display, and shrieking like a toddler and demanding my religious affiliation, we can coexist in this fucked up mess of a social experiment.
