Jenna and Kevin won't make a recap episode of The Quarterback. They have something special planned. I rewatched it anyway to refresh my memory, but I won't choose cringe moments, best song, performance mvp and I will keep my recap short.

Finn has died and everybody deals with their grief in a different way.

I know the cast has mixed feelings about this episode, but I think it was needed to do something. Finn was the main male character for four seasons. He deserved a goodbye. What was the alternative? Say he moved away and never see him again? Say he died and move on? Say nothing and move on? They could have canceled the show after season 4, but since they didn't I think to have an episode for Finn/Cory was the right choice.

Queer Reads: Tal Bauer

To conclude the hockey portion of our programming, I bring you the most yearning-ful author yet: Tal Bauer. 

Baurer writes a variety of genres in the romance world, from sports romances to political thrillers, but one thing that he has in common with all of his books is the feels. I think I’ve teared up reading every single one of his books. His characters are great, his writing is great, and the emotional turmoil is top notch. 

The first four books are his sport romances. The two football books are connected, and focus on college football in Texas. The hockey books are also connected, and focus on the best pro hockey team, Montreal, in the first book, and the worst hockey team, Colorado, in the second book. My only beef with the Colorado book is that it’s set in Boulder instead of Denver, but as Bauer is clearly not from here, he can be forgiven. These books have all of the feels, just constantly, and you def want to read the warning labels on all of them, but particularly The Rest Of The Story. 

The next four books are actually all one story, and should be read all together, binged over a long week of doing nothing but reading these books. Our two MCs are the president of the United States and the head of his Secret Service, and it’s so good. There’s political intrigue, there’s international politics, there’s a fantastic cast of side characters. There’s also two more books after this series that focus on a set of the side characters, and I haven’t read it because I haven’t been in the right emotional state to subject myself to that amount of the feels. 

And then there’s the last four books, which are a duo, and then two unconnected books, but what they have in common is the law enforcement characters. The Murder Between Us and The Grave Between us is about two FBI agents, one who profiles serial killers. Hell and Gone is set in the wild mountains of Montana, and Never Stay Gone is set in small town Texas. There’s murder and mystery and hot spice in all of them. Also, a lot of yearning. 

Check out Tal Bauer if you’d like to get your feelings hurt or to have a good cry. There’s happily ever afters for all of these, but jeez do the characters go through it.

5x03 featured 5 new cover songs- Seasons of Love (though a previous version of this song was recorded during season three, it was not released until January 2014, after this episode’s air date), Fire and Rain, If I Die Young, No Surrender, and Make You Feel My Love, as well as a new version of I’ll Stand By You.

This episode served as a tribute to actor Cory Monteith and his character, Finn Hudson. 💙🥁5️⃣

“Hey Finn” your soft voice spoke, sitting in front of Finn's grave, placing two flowers in front of the grave, roses. It was his favorite flower. “I was thinking last night, I know you told me to stop, but I couldn't help it” you joked, with a sad smile, a tear slowly making its way into your eye, and a lump making its way into your throat.

“anyway I was thinking about the first time we met, well before you joined Glee club, “you were in high school working part time cleaning tables, you lied to me to make yourself look cool, remember? didn't you say something like “I left a small time never looked back”

You laughed to yourself as you remembered what happened the week after. He walked into the choir room, looking sweaty as ever, coming back from the locker room. How you didn't remember he was the quarterback when you saw him at that cafe is something unbeknownst to both you and him.

“And do you remember I was flight risk with a fear of falling, wondering why we bother with love if it never lasts”

“Oh and then when we finally hit second year of glee, and you and me did that duet. Back when we were Brad and Jannet in Rocky Horror. We went back to yours to practice every night. And then we kissed. Then we got together” A smile crept on your face as you remembered what happened. A tear finally fell. “I say, ‘can you believe it?’ as we're lying on your couch. we must have been together for a year by that point. The moment I can see it.”

You pictured the scene, Burt and Carol had gone on a date to the movies. Can't remember what they went to see. Kurt had gone to see Blaine. “Yes, yes, I can see it now!” You say more clearly remember everything. How you missed it.

“this is gonna sound ridiculous but do you remember, we were sitting there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time. if I'm been honest you made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter.” you put your hand on the grave, looking at the stone with pain in your eyes. “you are the best thing that's ever been mine.”

You slowly stood up and brushed off the dirt that sat on your knees. “Talk to you later, Finn. I miss you, and I love you.”

After that, you went back home. When you walked in, you didn't take your shoes off or your coat. You just went upstairs and laid on your bed. You missed Finn more than anything in the world. You turned to your side and were met with a photo of you and Finn after graduation.

You were on his back. He had one hand keeping you up while his other one held up his hat. You had an arm around his neck and your other one holding your hat. Both of your smiles were beaming with joy. Your entire lives were in front of you. A week later, he was in the military, while Sue employed you to help with the cheerleaders. Flash forward, and we're taking on the world together, it said on the bottom of the Polaroid, with the date on the bottom. All in Finn's handwriting.

There was a box in the corner of your room, filled with all of the things you left in Finn's room. There was a draw of your things in his room. The same room he would learn your secrets and figure out why you're guarded. He said “we'll never make your parents mistakes”

Everything was working out so well, until you realized how bad the world was. And how much pressure is now laid on both of your shoulders. Not to forget that Finn got let go by the army. So when you moved in together, you thought it would be perfect but you had bills to pay, you both had nothing figured out. And it didn't help that you were both making just over minimum wage. But when it was hard to take, this is what you thought about.

“Do you remember, we were sitting there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time. You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter. You are the best thing that's ever been mine” you spoke to the picture, looking at Finn, remembering a new memory “and do you remember all the city lights on the water? You said you saw me start to believe for the first time. just remember you made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter. You are the best thing that's ever been mine, Finn.”

And you remember that fight, 2:30am, you could almost see it in front of you. You sat up and looked in regret. Regretting everything you said as everything was slipping right out of our hands. So you didn't say anything you'd later regret, you ran out crying, and he followed you out into the street.

You slowly walked over to the window and pictured the end of the fight. You remember, you braced yourself for the goodbye, cause its all you've ever known. Then he took you by surprise. He said “I'll never leave you alone”. A smile formed on your face as you started crying more. He said “I remember how we felt sitting by the water and everytime I look at you, it's like the first time. I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter. She is the best thing that's ever been mine.”

You started crying more and lent against the window frame. Every memory hit you like a wall. “Hold on and make it last. Hold on never turn back” his voice echoed through the house. You turned around and saw Finn's old flannel. Carefully, you sprinted over to it, and picked it up. Holding it closely to your chest. “You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter” you cried “you are the best thing that's ever been mine”

“Do you believe it?” Finn's voice echoed, it's what he said before you went on stage to sing we are the champions before graduating. “We're gonna make it now!” And you can see it. You can see it now.

Not much crushes me more than Carole’s monologue about loosing children in the quarterback

No, but seriously, Jane Lynch and Naya Rivera in The Quarterback? Ridiculously well done. Santana ... the emotions as she was yelling at Sue ... still gives me chills. Naya was a seriously brilliant actress.

I loved naya in quarterback! You could see her love for Cory. But it felt a bit… odd to me because I couldn’t see her being that close to Finn. The two relationships ( real world vs what happened on show) kind of clashed in my mind if you get my meaning?

I think Santana's role in The Quarterback made perfect sense for what Santana and Finn's roles were in each other's lives. It's not like Santana spent the whole episode waxing poetic about what an undisputably great guy Finn was; it was raw and complex and full of anger about their past and her own flaws and the future Finn will never have. I don't think everything was 100% right because, well, I have a highly critical view of Finn as a ch but overall Santana's grief felt just right. They didn't have to be close for her to grieve, although they were on pretty good terms by season 4. So Santana's storyline and emotions reflected the complexity of that as well as their prior turbulent relationship.

I do get what you mean but I don't think her storyline was odd in that context at all. My complicated feelings on Finntana and all, it still felt true to both Santana and her own complicated feelings towards Finn. And lowkey, even if it did feel odd, I'd personally be more than willing to overlook it given the real-life circumstances because it still would have been an opportunity for Naya to honour Cory, and that matters more than fiction.

I just listened to the lastest episode of and that’s what you really missed on Glee. They didn’t make a recap of the Quarterback, because they don’t want to watch the episode. They talked about filming the episode and their favorite memories of Cory.

Additionally they had little stories from other people.
