THEME: Mermaids
This weekâs games are all about swimming, stabbing, and sinking ships as creatures of the open ocean - or at least, a local body of water.
Siren Silk, by DOCTOR_dev.
Players take the roles of journeyfolk, the umbrella term for travelers that spread word and wares under the waters of the Swiften Sea, home of the branchia and their kingdom Ornata. Trade is done through any number of means: you can barter goods, harvest and deliver natural resources, craft at your traveling workshop, spin stories, or deliver news to the fringe settlements of Ornata.
Siren Silk is still a work in progress, but it has more than just mermaids on offer. You can play as various kinds of undersea folk, including sirens, krakens and sea serpents. Siren Silk is built on the Passkey System, which offers a diceless way to play, using something called EP. You have stat pools with various amounts of EP, which you can spend in order to gain a success; spend more EP, get a more effective success. You can also gain advantage or disadvantage in certain situations, which gives you discounts or higher EP costs. Your PCs might also take on conditions throughout their adventures that help or hinder them in mechanical ways, such as granting disadvantage, giving you extra EP, etc.
If you want to play this game with dice, thereâs also a dice-rolling set of rules that correspond to the spending of EP, so I think Siren Silk has the potential to be flexible to your table.
Siren Squad, by Jennafiggers.
The Cerulean Sea needs your help! Join the Siren Squad, where you and your friends are rainbow mermaid secret agents. Summon adorable sea creatures, solve puzzles and explore for clues until you complete your Mission to keep the sea safe. This is a world where magic and technology intertwine, all sorts of fantastic sea creatures thrive, and friendship is the most powerful force of all.
Siren Squad is a cinematic game reminiscent of American Saturday morning cartoons where the heroes win and everything goes back to normal at the end of the episode. If you love the puny, light action of Totally Spies or Powerpuff Girls, the thematic characters of Streetsharks or Skylanders, or the off-the-wall adventures of Chalkzone and Ruby Gloom, you'll probably love this game.
This game is currently in play testing form, but the designers certainly seem to have high hopes for it! You appear to construct your character from a playbook, that is heavily themed to make each PC feel unique, powerful and dynamic. Right now there appears to be google sheet versions of the playbooks, which hold Quickstart characters for people who want to get a bit of a peek into the game before committing to purchasing. One of the cutest things in this game is the existence of buddy beasts! I have no idea how they work but the art for them is very very cute.
Storm Drain Mermaids, by Papertigress.
You are a feral mermaid. You and your sister sirens (the other players) live in the local city/urban waterways, each having a territory and rallying together in flood/drought/calamity situations for survival as neededâŚ
Now is one of those times.
This is a simple one-page game that can be printed off and double as a character sheet for each player. Your mermaid has 5 stats, and a territory that âbelongsâ to you and therefore gives you an advantage when you act while within it. Each player also has a pool of âscalesâ that can be used to improve their chances with every roll, or to inflict penalties on an opposing force. The game feels balanced between chance and the spending of resources to ensure your character succeeds a healthy amount of the time. Thereâs also roll tables a-plenty here, to help the GM come up with ideas as the players swim through the world.
Under the Sea, by rzut-na-angielski
Over the years the story of The Little Mermaid and her horrid end was a cautionary tale for young merfolk. But you - a group of teenage friends - think that Ariel was right. Humans are sexy. Especially the one youâve been stalking for the past month. If you canât go up there, then youâll have to make sure that your human gets to live under the sea with all of you. Play to hatch a polyglamorous plan to get your human some gills AND MAKE THEM FALL HEAD OVER FINS FOR ALL OF YOU!
A goofy game about falling in love and trying to get your crush to like you back, Under the Sea is 2 pages long and grants your character three simple stats: Fins, Heart and Mind. You also carry with you some kind of magic, although how you wield that magic appears to be up to player interpretation.
The game has a very clear endgame scenario: your Human mast have gills and/or be in love with you by the end of the game, or they will die / return to the surface world, never to be wooed again. The course of the game runs over three stages: finding your human, approaching them, and bringing them to the sea (where hopefully, they will fall in love).
Guardians of the Sea, by Ezra Tellington.
"Mermaids used to live in harmony with nature and, for the most parts, humans. Sure, homo sapiens sapiens was both nutritious and easy to charm, but mermaids held no animosity towards their prey. In the last century, though, everything changed: oil spills, plastics, whole species of plants and animals eradicated, what was one day an underwater paradise began to look like a wet wasteland. Mermaid population began to shrink and the remaining ones moved to further removed regions, where humans and their trash could not find them.
In the anarchist society of mermaids emerged harsh discussions: should they wage an actual war against humanity to defend their ecosystem? Some individuals insist that not all humans are at fault, but this opinion is getting less and less popular as the marine animals die out."
Guardians of the Sea looks to be a short game, approximately 9 pages long. The character skills appear to exist as rows of pips, similar to World of Darkness, which might be easy to manage visually. The game itself is mostly about capitalism and ecology; a war rising from the ocean as the onset of climate change makes your charactersâ homes uninhabitable. If you like stories that have a little bit of revenge in them, you might like this game.
A Salt Kiss Remains by Whimsy Machine.
A Salt Kiss Remains is game of mermaids, magic, and monsters in the great open sea and the land it crashes upon. We play as denizens of the ocean or other aquatic environments, exploring and protecting this world. These adventures can be lighthearted and fun, exploring sunken ruins of ancient humans, falling in love, and building families, and they can reach like the sea ever deeper. In these dark depths, we explore the damage humans cause to the oceans, what it means to be predator and prey, and the unfathomable mysteries of this vast world.
A Salt Kiss Remains may still be in alpha, but it is FULL of moves, in a way that feels slightly reminiscent of Apocalypse World. Each move references a specific situation in the game, and some of them specifically use a resource called corruption in order to help your mermaids to magical things. This includes (but is not limited to), sapping all life from a location, reading the entrails of dead creatures as a form of augury, and warping the forms of other creatures to your will.
The game also comes with a set of introductory adventures, which may be helpful for GMâs who want a solid place to start, or even just some inspiration for the kinds of stories you can tell with A Salt Kiss Remains.
Radioactive Mermaids of the Burning Sargasso, by kumada1.
In the year 2020, the world was veiled in darkness. The wind stopped. The sea was wild. The earth began to rot. And humanity went into decline. Five thousand and fifty three years have passed since then. It is now the year 2021. Life clings desperately to the ocean.
Two things are true: you are a mermaid, and you are rad.
Specifically, you are a radiotrophic being, feeding on the hazardous background noise of the universe to fuel your cool powers.
In the oceanic zone where you live, the Burning Sargasso, you are unique among lifeforms. Most creatures here are radiation-resistant, but you actively absorb and neutralize it. This makes you something of a keystone species. It also gives you potent science-magic powers, and one heck of an obligation.
Radioactive Mermaids of the Sargasso revolves around building an enclave in the sargasso and improving it, for both your sake and the sake of the wildlife around you. Youâll collaboratively define the elements of your enclave, and work together to make it flourish. Tending to the garden doles out Tedium to the caretakers, which can force your mermaid to leave the enclave if they accrue too much - eventually freedom becomes too alluring to resist. Your character might also accrue something called Rads, which donât harm you, but can be used to fuel your science-magic powers.
If you want a unique take on mermaids and a collective, clear goal, you might want to check out Radioactive Mermaids of the Sargasso.
Seven Deadly Sirens by Litza Bronwyn.
In this game, you play one of seven types of mermaids and roll with seven deadly sins to power your basic and special moves in order to summon ships, lure men to you, devour their hearts, and collect their treasures.
Previously released, this second version of the game contains updated information based on playtesting feedback, beautiful stock imagery, and new formatting.
Each of the seven playbooks comes with a section for describing your character, filling out the bonuses for your seven sins (used as stats), relationship questions, special moves, and a place to keep track of your wounds, experience, how much treasure you've collected, and how many hearts you've devoured (which you can use to enhance more powerful moves).
Seven Deadly Sirens feels the most gritty on this list, with bonuses and negatives for various moves being determined by your Sins, which measure things such as your desire for sex, food, possessions, etc. You are all different kinds of mermaids, inspired by various sea creatures, granting you unique moves that match your playbook - such as the mer-eel, who is slippery and has a unique relationship with lightning.
This game also highlights relationships, both between the PCs and the men they will encounter. Men are cruel and lovely; they are potential lovers, victims, opponents, and so much more. Will you consume them? Or will they consume you? Play to find out.

IT CAME IT IS HERE THE 20-YEAR-OLD PPG SOAP MAKING KIT FOR CHILDREN YAAAY đđĽłđ
I saw this being sold online, you all wanted me to buy it, so I did, and now you can all see what horrors youâve wrought upon me.
The first thing that I noticed when I opened this package up is that it smelled terrible. I didnât even have to open up the envelope you see in the picture: the actual shipping envelope smelled bad. It was definitely a soap smell gone very wrong. Needless to say, this wasnât a good sign of what was to come.
⌠well, spoiler alert, it really doesnât get any worse. In fact itâs a little underwhelming. đ But read on anyway because I do suffer a little while doing this, and I know if you all love at least one thing about me⌠itâs my suffering. đ
I opened it up, and the first thing I looked at was the instruction manual that seems to be written in the perspective of the Professor. ďżźThatâs kind of cute and on brand. I also chuckled because both of the soaps in this kit are named after Buttercup, the Powerpuff Girl who hates bathing the most. Whoever made this knew what they were doing and I love them for it. I hope putting this together made working at the Delta Education company a bit more fun for them.
Here are the instructions for people who like to read 20-year-old instructions of crafts for babbies:
After I looked through all of the instructions, I found some PPG stickers (not shown because Iâm already pushing my photo limit for this post) as well as all of the ingredients for our experiments. Oooooh~.
I was actually a little bit disappointed, because I thought there would be more ingredients involved to make these things (you know, like an actual educational science kit would normally have), but this is all it came with. The shampoo base was just premade shampoo without the (apple!) scent in it. ďżźThe green soap was just premade soap, cut into chunks that you would melt and pour into little heart shaped molds. The little glitter stickers in this picture werenât PPG themed, and the âPPG trinketsâ were straight up just erasers.
So, yeah, it was⌠underwhelming. From what I can gather from the other kits I saw being sold online, I suppose these were âeducationalâ in the sense that they were used in educational settings. They were probably just little craft kits for kids in classrooms rather than kits that were going to teach them anything substantial (I think the other kits I saw were for making jewelry and door hangers⌠just fun projects for kids to have fun and learn how to put things together đ¤ˇââď¸).
Still, I purchased this kit, and Iâd be damned if I didnât actually get some shampoo and soap makinâ out of some of these ingredients. âŚand I say some because I had to find out whether I should even USE these products, given the warning on the front of the bag that said the contents warranted adult supervision. I mean, Iâm an adult and I felt like I needed another adult.
There was absolutely no way that I was going to use the shampoo base, because I am pretty sure that it would make my hair fall out or disintegrate my scalp if I tried using it (or even if I touched it). It looked really slimy, and had a weird, translucent stringy texture to it, so I tossed it. I snipped open the apple scent packet because I was curious to find out if it still had a scent to it⌠and it was actually sort of pleasant! It had a bit of a chemical after-scent to it, but it wasnât the worst thing Iâve ever smelled. Still, I donât think I should be putting a 20-year-old scent anywhere near my body (I probably shouldnât have even smelled it, come to think of it⌠my chemistry teachers would have been so ashamed of me) so I decided I would not be using it in the final product either.
I opened up the green soap, hoping that that would actually be okay or at least smell normal, ďżźand⌠I actually gagged. BLEEEEECH. Thatâs where the awful smell had been coming from. Immediately tossed it in the trash. It was AWFUL, and thereâs absolutely no way, not even for the sake of comedy, that I would willingly put it in my microwave or even let it come in contact with my skin (although yet again, like an idiot, I smelled it⌠oh well, my idiocy has its limits, I guess). I looked online later and also found out that, apparently, glycerin soap can produce mold and ferment after 4-5 years⌠so yeah, it was probably a good call for me to trash it.
That means I now didnât have any of the actual soap products I was going to use to make these! However, I had a trick up my sleeve (at least for the solid soap) and that trick was called⌠buying new soap to use. 𤣠I got some dye, grabbed some apple scent to add to the soap, and voila! BUTTERCUP SOAP!
Beautiful!
Theyâre actually kind of cute, and Iâm using them as little dish soaps right now (Iâll probably toss the erasers later though⌠I donât think theyâll work after being in glycerin soap that long). The new apple smell I bought is, weirdly enough, not as great as the 20-year-old one, but itâs still something I totally think Buttercup wouldnât mind using, even if bathtime was still torture for her. ďżźI also ended up making some blue soap themed for Bubbles (aka the original Soap). As for the shampoo, I basically just added the apple scent to some shampoo I already had and decorated the bottle that came with the kit accordingly.
âŚand thatâs all she wrote! There it is! Soap and soap for your hair made with help from a kit no one else but me would, in their right mind, ever purchase! I hope you are all now fulfilled, free to live enriched lives knowing what mysteries were enclosed in the kit, and that I successfully made something with it for your enjoyment. It was all⌠for you! đđŤľđ

đđĽđ˘đđĄĂŠ
â⌠đŹđ˛đ§đ¨đŠđŹđ˘đŹ // in which a player (Lutz Beilschmidt himself) falls for real this time, and the girl he's enamored by has to overcome his reputation.
⧠taken from my old quotev!! not stolen work!!!
â⌠đđđđđŽđŤđ˘đ§đ // Lutz Beilschmidt (APH 2p!Germany)
â⌠đđ¨đ§đđđ˘đ§đŹ // drinking, angst, assumed cheating, betrayal, fluff
3.3k words
The pounding in your head was only outweighed by the obnoxiously loud sound of the music blaring from the living room. It was another frat party, one you didn't intend on going to, but hey, you only live once. At least this time there was more of a theme, it was a Halloween costume partyâthough that mostly just meant sorority girls got to add a cat ear headband to their usual miniskirt and heels.
You and your friends were not dressed in the classic slutty animal costumes, and the more and more this party went on the more you were both thankful and regretful. Emma convinced you and Darcy to dress like... wizards. Not the cute, girly kind, the kind with the 2-foot beards and starry robes. Then again, Emma still managed to make the shapeless robes sexy, and she discarded her beard long ago. You were about to rip off your own, the synthetic material was getting itchy.Â
The whole thankful and regretful part came in when you saw possibly the most notorious trio on campus, the biggest players to grace the university in about... what? 20? 30 years? Allen L. Jones (he claims the L stands for Liberty), Zao Wang, and none other than Lutz Beilschmidt stood in the middle of a group of girls, dressed as... holy shit, are they dressed as the Powerpuff Girls?
"Oh my god their shorts are so... short!" Emma giggled, "You can see every muscle..."
"When did the Powerpuff Girls get so slutty," You scoffed, itching under your fake grey beard. "...and buff."
"I see Lutz hasn't changed a bit," Darcy snorted, "Still as much of a manwhore as ever."
"I still can't believe he played you like that." Emma grimaced.
"Like a fiddle." You added in.
"Let's not revisit that..." Darcy dragged her hands down her face.
As Emma and Darcy got caught up in drinks and boys, you found yourself needing a breath of fresh air. Maybe if you were drinking right now, or at least a little tipsy, you might be able to deal with the sight of Allen showing off his biceps to four women. The backyard wasn't really that much betterâtoilet paper strung through the trees, the blaring music still within hearing, and a random couple making out behind a bushâbut it was an improvement. You sat on the wooden steps of the deck, itching under your beard again. You hoped it wouldn't leave a rash...
âMerlin?â
âHuh?â You turned your head to be met with... Of course! Lutz! Probably the last person you wanted to see right now.
âGandalf?â
âOh, uh, more like⌠unlicensed no copyright generic wizard characterâŚâ You turned back forwards, praying he would go away.
âGotcha, my favorite.â He sat next to you. Great!Â
"Shouldn't you be, ya know, whoring out?" You snorted, glancing at him as his face distorted into an amused grin.
"Hey, I'm not all slut. I need breaks from the noise too sometimes." He nudged you, âI don't think Iâve seen you around.â
âOh, we actually have the same world history class-" Unfortunately. "-with Professor Neilson?" He stared at you owlishly, "Here, wait, maybe removing the beard will help.â
You pulled down the itchy beard and Lutz drank in your facial features. Scrunching up your face, you removed it completely and tossed it on the steps beside you.
âOh, now I recognize you!" He smiled, before letting it morph into a more sheepish expression, "âŚCan I get a name though orrrrrâŚâ
"...Y/n." You exhaled through your nose, turning away from him. "Don't worry, I already know your name."
"I'm glad!" He grinned broadly, "Introductions were never my favorite."
"..."
âSooo... Can I get you a drink?
âIâm actually the designated driver so Iâll pass.âÂ
âAh, respectable. Maybe something non-alcoholic then?â
âActually I probably should be getting home to my, uh, my fairy godmother.â You internally facepalmed, god you were mixing up your fairytales. âLike in uh, Cinderella.â
âI didn't know unlicensed no copyright generic wizard character was a Cinderella character.â Lutz snorted,
âHeâs from a remake, CinderâŚwizard⌠Itâs really popular overseas.â You checked your nonexistent watch, âOops, clock is about to strike twelve.â
"Is your fake beard the Cinderwizard version of a glass slipper?" He chuckled, eliciting a genuine giggle from youâgod you were gonna have to shoot yourself later.
"Sure, but it's stretchy so it's probably more like a one size fits all.
âWell⌠seeing as I know what you look like and where to find you, Iâd say I'm a few steps ahead of Prince Charming.â
âYeah, âI know where to find youâ isnât creepy at all.â
âSorry,â He laughed airily, âIâll see you around then.âÂ
You quickly excused yourself and hurriedly walked back into the party to meet with Emma and Darcy .
"Was that Lutz? Why was Lutz talking to you?" Darcy inquired, hushedly but urgently.
"He was just asking for bathroom directions!" You made up an excuse.
"Isn't this... his frat house?" Emma raised a brow.
"Okay, okay, listen. He just- He just came over and he wouldn't leave and then told me he knew where to find me and- I don't know it was torture!" You whined.
"God, don't tell me you're his next victim..." Darcy shivered, "We need to keep you away from him, at all costs."
"Y/n L/n and Lutz Beilschmidt..." Professor Neilson continued to announce the pairs for a group project, and you felt like you were dying inside. Lutz's head popped up from his resting place on his desk.
"No way." You said in unison (though one was obviously far more excited than the other), and you glanced at him to see him grinning widely at you.
The moment class was dismissed and students began funneling out you made your way to Professor Neilson's desk with some very strong words and a lot of questions.
"Professor, not to question your judgment but why was I paired up with Lutz?" You frowned.
"I think you'll be a good influence on him-"Â
"But-"
"-and he isn't a slacker so you won't be doing the project alone. You and Beilschmidt need to work together, just for this week." He said, sternly as he turned back to the various papers spread across his desk.
"C'mon, don't tell me you're trying to get rid of me already." A very familiar German accent purred behind you, an armâa muscular arm but you tried not to go thereâslung around your shoulder.
"Of course not, partner." You grimaced. "You smell like beer..."
"Sorry, sĂźĂe, I'll wear cologne when we study."Â
You shrugged off his arm with a groan, walking out of the classroom as Lutz trailed behind you. He easily kept up with your speedy strides, damn him for being so tall and quick on his feet, you were hoping all that muscle would weigh him down.
...You really have to stop thinking about his muscular build.
"Hey, wait, I thought we got off on the right foot." Lutz continued following you like a lost puppy until you turned around and glared straight at him.
"Listen, Lutz, I know a little too well what kind of guy you are and I really don't want to get involved so can you please just..." You sighed, "Just do your part and let's not get buddy-buddy."
"Hey, I was looking forwards to getting buddy-buddy..." He huffed, "Listen, Y/n, I know I have a reputation but that doesn't mean we can't be friendly, I mean c'mon, give me a fair chance."
You glanced between him and the crowd of students trailing the hallways, groaning as you gave in.
"Fine. But make one wrong move and I'm out."
"He's your what?" Emma gasped.
"My history project partner..." You whined, "I cannot believe Professor Neilson would do that to me, I mean come on I thought I was his star student. Why is he torturing me with Lutz."
"Not my monkey, not my circus." Darcy snorted, "You're on your own here."
"How did you get rid of him, Darcy?" You pleaded.
"I liked him." She sighed.
"Oh... Right..." You let your face fall into your arms, "God I'm never gonna shake him, am I?"
"She's your what?" Allen snorted.Â
"My history project partner!" Lutz fist-pumped, "God, I thought Neilson was a hardass but he really hooked me up this time."
"She is kinda bad," Zao smirked, "You gonna... ya know..."
"She said no getting buddy-buddy but, well, you know me," Lutz smirked, Allen and Zao whistling and cheering. "I mean... I dunno, maybe I won't go too far with her..."
"What? Are you going soft on us, buddy?" Allen cackled.
"Hey man, shes not really like other girls ya know, she didn't really fold fast at all. I kinda wanna see where it'll go..."
"'Not like other girls' is wild," Zao snorted, "she's gonna end up like every single one of them did, in your bed. Or mine. Might snatch her up since you're hesitating~."
"I mean it, I kind of... like her. I don't really want to make her into another fling.." Lutz leaned back in his chair, groaning. "God, what am I gonna do..."
Lutz had been studying with you every day this week, and you don't think you've ever seen him this dedicated to the class itself. When he could, he would invite you to his placeâgoofily kicking aside the stray socks and boxers left strung across the floor by his roommatesâbut when he couldn't, you would study on campus.
Today, however, it was raining.
Lutz (yuck)Â 3:42 Y/N lemme just come to your dorm pls my place is busy rn zao is dealiong drugs or smth âââ ââââ â Y/n3:43 no we can study tomorrow you're not coming in my dorm stay away far away âââ ââââ â Lutz (yuck)Â 3:43 P[LEASE ill be on my bestest behavior trust
You gave in eventually.
"-and in retaliation, they..." You glanced up at Lutz, scooting away a bit. "You're this close to sitting on me, dude."
"Sorry, the words are so small, I can't read them..." He slowly grinned, "Hey, maybe you should sit on me, sĂźĂe-"
"Don't even start, Lutz." You groaned, punching him lightly as he practically giggled beside you.
"It smells great in here, what is that, vanilla?" He sniffed.
"I think my roommate has a candle in the bathroom," You said, "but I think its lavendar so I'm not sure where youre getting vanilla."
He hummed, and though you couldnt see it, he was staring at you as your rattled on about some random history thingyâhe wasnt really listening in the first place. Lutz had grown a soft spot to you, much to Allen and Zao's amusement, it had gotten so bad he was turning down girls. Lutz Beilschmidt was turning down girls. He was whipped, but he was too lovesick to be ashamed.
You flipped the page gently, but Lutz reached over and flipped it back. When you looked up at him, his face was hovering inches away from yours and he was practically drowning himself in your eyes.
"I wasn't- I wasn't done reading." His voice came out low, his tone intimate even.
God, what was happening to you?
Charcoal nuzzled into your neck as you leaned back in Lutz's beanbag chair. He pouted at you from his desk chair.
"Charcoal doesn't even do that with me."
"What can I say, he must just like me more." You smirked, sticking your tongue out at Lutz as you rubbed the top of Charcoal's head.
"Maybe you're like his mom." Lutz grinned, "Which since I'm his dad that would mean-"
You threw his dirty socks at him.
Emma and Darcy were supportive of you, even if they did think you were a little stupid for falling for Lutz (though, Emma meant stupid in an endearing, cute way!). However, sometimes you wondered if Darcy was jealous, and sometimes it seemed like she was. When you were talking to Lutz in the hallways, him begging you to come hang out with him with the saddest puppy-dog eyes Darcy had ever seen, her browline creased and her lips downturned. When Lutz was texting you, begging for your attention, Darcy was glaring at your phone screen. When you were complaining about Lutz being a little too comfortable, Darcy was bitterly making comments like "must be hard" and "poor you".
"I was gonna go to a party at Theta Theta this weekend." Darcy said as she scrolled through her phone, "You guys wanna come with?"
"Isn't that Lutz's frat house?" Emma said, bobbypin in mouth as she braided your hair, "Ya know, the guy Y/n is head over heels for?"
"I am not head over heels for Lutz-!"
"I'm not letting that loser stop me from partying," Darcy grinned, giggling, "Plus, it gives little miss Y/n a chance to meet someone new~."
"Oooh!" Emma giggled, "We can find you a man to make Lutz jealous!"
"Guys I cannot believe youre trying to rope me into doing that in his god damn house, are you kidding me?" You griped, "I am not going."
You sipped lightly on a hard lemonade, the blaring music echoing through your ears as you looked through the crowd for any sign of Lutz.Â
(Yes, you gave in)
Since arriving, you had lost Darcy in the crowd and hadn't seen a single glimpse of the fluffy blonde hair you were so familiar with. Emma suggested going up to his room, teasing you and saying you might've made him retire from his partying ways. You rolled your eyes, but carefully made your way up the stairs anyway. Immediately, you saw Lutz exiting his room, looking a bit dishevelled but, hey, he's a frat boy. You smiled widely as you went up to greet him.
You never made it to him.
No one other than Darcy, your best friend since before highschool, walked out of his room behind him. Her lipstick was smeared and her hair messy. She barely spared you a glance before wrapping her grimy hands around Lutz's bicep.
"Babe, come back~."
You and Emma drove home in silence. Emma was horrified at the news, you could hear her acrylics tapping away at her phone screen and you could only imagine the shit storm that Darcy was getting. Your own phone was blowing up, actually, and you had to put it on do not disturb to be able to focus on driving at all. The threat of breaking down and crying pricked at your eyes and made your nose feel ticklish, you felt ill, and you stomach wouldn't stop doing backflips.
When Darcy said you lose Lutz by liking him, she wasn't lying.
At the same time as you were fighting a breakdown, Lutz was cussing out a very smug Darcy.
"Holy shit what is wrong with you?" He scolded, "I'm sorry that I didn't like our fling and I'm not in love with you, but you are some kind of evil for doing this to your best friend. Like jesus fucking christ, what are you even getting from this?"
"Come on Lutz, we were better than whatever you had going on with her, she could never-"
"Don't even finish that thought." He spat, "Get out of my god damn house."
You were awoken from your sleep by pitiful, desperate pleas at your door. You heard the frantic knocking, the begging and crying and whining, and you knew who was behind it. You rubbed your eyes, still puffy from crying yourself to sleep, and checked your notifications.
Lutz <32:13 A.M. please its not what it looks like i know thats like a stupid overused excuse but its not an excuse darcy told me she wanted to talk to me about something she set it all up please i dont want anyone else
Lutz <3 2:43 A.M. please respond pick up my calls i swear to god Y/n i promise nothing was going on i'm not like that i swear
You snorted at his texts, he was saying every excuse, using every clichĂŠ line that people use when they get caught.
"Y/n I know you're in there I just want to talk I swear nothing was happening," As you walked closer to your door you heard Lutz bang his head against the other side, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, please just let me explain."
When you opened the door he stumbled in, his face painted in shock and sadness and relief all at once, and the moment he laid eyes on your pitiful expression he looked like the wind had just been taken out of him. He tried to place his hands on the sides of your face to wipe your tears, but you gently pushed his hands away by the wrists and stepped back.
"Y/n..."
"You have 10 minutes to explain." You sniffled. "And then I'm kicking you out for being a dirty, lying, unfaithful asshat!"
"No! No, nonono, I wasn't unfaithful nothing ever happened I swear. On my life, my brothers life, my mother, father, cat, on everything important to me I swear to you that nothing happened between me and Darcy." He pleaded, "When you guys got to the party I was just hanging out in my room, watching videos, you know how it is. Darcy had knocked on my door and I- I went to open it and she just walked in like she owned the place. It was gross she was acting like we're super close and she was all flirty and it-
"Either way, she was trying to be all handsy and I had pushed her off and stepped out and that when you came up the stairs. She just came out after me and I knew it looked so bad and I didn't know what to say and-"
Were his eyes glossing over?
"Look, look at my texts with her and- and you can see that there really isnt anything going on and I swear you're the only person I want. I don't even have her number saved in my phone, Y/n, she's nothing to me."
You snatched his phone, scrolling through countless texts of Lutz being so irreversibly angry and distraught while Darcy simply defended her actions. You checked her number, it was really Darcy, and you felt fat tears roll down your cheeks.
"Oh my god you're telling the truth." You sobbed as you launched forwards into his chest.
He smelled a little woody and his shirt still smelled like laundry detergent and yeah there was an underlying hint of alcohol but it wasn't nearly as strong as it was the day you became his project partner. You melted into him as he rubbed his (rather large) hands over your back, calloused fingers wrapping around your arm as he brought you closer and closer to him and if it weren't literally impossible you thought you might have ended up merging with him. He kissed the crown of your head, muttering words of reassurance and affection.Â
Lifting your head up, he wiped the tears away from your face and brushed your hair behind your ears. He gently caressed your cheeks, letting his fingers dance over every detail of your cheek and jaw before shakily bringing himself closer and closer to you until his lips met yours and you melted into each other with so much passion and affection you thought you might drown
"I think I'm in love with you."

đđľđť Tooty Fruity + Some Headcanons đťđľđ
Recently Iâve been listening to the soundtrack of Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, and just kept on getting violent flashbacks to my cringey Banjo Kazooie phase from my elementary school all the way to my early high school days. And that ofc, inspired me to make some fanart.
This was made as a (late) birthday gift for one of my closest friends I know IRL and online, Gavin, AKA, Funtime Floof/FloofToon15. He enjoys Banjo Kazooie and Rare games in general like me, and I suggest you follow him on Twitter and Instagram, heâs a sweet and funny dude. And this was also made as a (again, late) 26th Anniversary to the game itself! Christ almighty, I canât believe the series is this old already- đĽ˛
Tooty, my beloved. She was my main choice because sheâs one of my favorite characters in the series. Sheâs so adorable and pure, but in all honesty, she kinda deserved better. I donât mind Rare riffing on the fact that she straight up dipped after the first game, but she still had potential to appear in the other games after that. I donât like how things like Nuts nâ Bolts or TV Tropes describe her as a walking plot device, âcause to me, sheâs way more than just that.
That aside, since her OG design is pretty simple, working on my human design for her was pretty easy. Kept her iconic outfit and pigtails, and just gave her some cute freckles. Felt like going for a Y2K and kidcore vibe/look for the art. The Banjo Kazooie franchise was introduced in the late 90s, and itâs just oozing with whimsical, cartoony, childish, and colorful themes (especially the first game), so I thought the two aesthetics would be perfect to use.
And as the title also says, Iâm gonna be giving yâall some headcanons of mine for Tooty that I came up with a while back.
đľ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~đľ
⢠My version of Tooty is a mix between Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls, Lilo from Lilo and Stitch, and Cindy Lou Who from the Grinch. Sheâs cheerful, but also a little eccentric and does some pretty odd stuff, like one time where she made a cursed peanut butter and pickle sandwich combination. Sheâs also a curious, pure-hearted little sweetheart, but pretty naive.
⢠Since the Banjo Kazooie Wiki describes her as spunky and mischievous, Iâve always imagined her as being a tomboy with a girly streak. She loves going on adventures, running around and wearing casual clothing, but doesnât mind wearing dresses for special occasions, loves stuffed animals, and loves the colors pink and purple.
⢠Rare enjoys leaving the ages of some of their characters ambiguous, so I headcanon Tooty as being around 7-9 years old.
⢠Sometimes when sheâs too scared to sleep in her room by herself (an example would be when thereâs thunder and lightning outside), she goes to Banjoâs room and asks if she can sleep in there with him.
⢠Itâs pretty obvious that Tooty loves and looks up to her big bro Banjo. But I imagine that she inherited her spunk and love for adventure from him, and wants to be just like him when she grows up. But sheâs also often haunted by self doubt and insecurity, since she feels like she could never live up to the legacy or fame of him. But luckily, being the S-tier brother that he is, Banjoâs there to lift her spirits and assure her that sheâs smart, clever, and capable of being just as great as him.
⢠As a kid, Iâve always wanted to know whatever the hell happened to Banjo and Tootyâs parents, and I managed to come up with a small backstory for them that I might edit/expand on later. The bear brother and sister were born to two loving parents, Piano and Fiddle. They werenât living in the greatest conditions, but they all still managed to be a happy, stable family. One day, the couple decided to take a small trip away from home, and the two parents entrusted Banjo to look after Tooty while they were gone. Unfortunately, that would be the last time the siblings ever saw their parents again, as the two were killed in a tragic accident. Banjo was only 17 when he found out about the tragic news, so while he was about to reach adulthood soon, he was still pretty young to nurture his then 5 year old little sis all by himself. That didnât stop him from taking care of her, and basically promoting himself to parenthood. He fed her, potty trained her, taught her the ABCs, took her out to fun places, and basically made an oath to be the best big brother to Tooty, and to protect her at all costs.
⢠Tooty doesnât remember much about her parents, because, again, she was 5 years old when they died. So she always goes to Banjo to have him tell whatever type of silly story about them when they were alive.
⢠Tooty and Kazooie didnât have much interactions with each other, but Iâve always seen the two as having a, âaloof older sibling and annoying younger siblingâ-esque bond. Kazooie doesnât throw brutal insults at her like she does with the rest of the characters (especially poor Bottles), but she does call her some teasing nicknames here and there. But sheâs not heartless, she does have a soft spot for the little scamp. Tooty sees her as a big sister figure, and Kazooie at one point calls Tooty, âthe little sister that she never hadâ.
⢠I headcanon Tooty has ADHD. Since she is often seen running around, and being pretty hyperactive in general, so thatâs where I got it from. I also imagine her being pretty impatient and impulsive. She doesnât like waiting for long periods of time, sometimes has trouble following instructions, and gets easily distracted by pretty looking objects. Heck, even Banjo himself has often told her how much of a handful she was while trying to take care of her and calls her, âa living, breathing batteryâ.
⢠Since sheâs seen eating coconuts at the end of the first game, I headcanon that theyâre her favorite food, especially coconut milk. I also think that honey would be another type of food she likes (since sheâs, yâknow- a bear), but she doesnât love it as much as coconuts.
⢠Her other best friends outside of the Banjo Kazooie gang are Dixe and Tiny Kong, and Conker. Since theyâre all related to Rare, why not do some crossover friendship stuff. Tooty loves hanging out with the Kong sisters, and especially loves hanging out with Conker. Him and Banjo are childhood buddies, but Banjo still doesnât want Tooty hanging around him because, well⌠heâs Conker. But Tooty doesnât care, and just finds him cool.
⢠Ever since Iâve heard rumors about Rare planning to have a Banjo Kazooie show during the Nuts nâ Bolts era that never came into fruition, Iâve always made up a Banjo Kazooie show myself, which is something I may or may not go into more detail in the future. And my headcanon choice for Tootyâs voice actor would be Britt McKillip, and the main inspiration for her voice is Hannah Marie from Scary Godmother (AKA, one of my favorite Halloween specials ever). Both are pink wearing, timid little sister characters, so I thought it would be fitting.

I completely forgot to link to this, but Craig McCracken did an interview last month because of the Powerpuff Girls' 25th anniversary.
He believes girls drew great empowerment from seeing not only the Powerpuff Girls' skills in fighting crime, both with power and wit, but that they were appreciated and embraced in Townsville.
The two episodes he points out that really show the Powerpuff Girls' themes: Bubblevicious and Beat Your Greens.
He recalls the girders looking like crosses being the reason why See Me Feel Me Gnomey never aired in the US.
He absolutely tried to get Jack Black to play the Gnome in that episode.
According to Craig McCracken, "the girls represent body, mind and spirit. Together they make a whole person." He cannot choose one favorite Powerpuff Girl because of this.
Powerpuff Girls was chosen to get a movie because the consumer products were doing so well, and nothing else Cartoon Network really had that.
He does bring up the reboot. He says it failed because it was a show about little girls that happened to have superpowers, not a show about superheroes that happened to be little girls.
He also brings up the cancelled live-action CW show. According to him, "if theyâre adults, thatâs just three super girls who donât have to deal with being kids."
There's a few other bits of knowledge in there, too, it's a good article. Better late than never.

This is silly but- Tess recently introduced me to Precure (really good anime, btw - Go Princess has been my favorite season so far, but HeartCatch is also really fun)
And, given that the Rise boys already had magic powers, I am now imagining TMNT getting a Powerpuff Girls Z-esque anime adaptation focused on four girls becoming Ninja Turtle-themed magical girls - getting both the weapons and the Rise powers as well as the cute magical girl outfits. And then I guess Splinter is their rat-fairy who teaches them/allows them to transform
#silly stuff#random thoughts#tmnt#I already know about the other Tmnt anime but I want a genuine magical girl one#rottmnt

my exams arenât over yet but i totally headcanon D dragging G and mc into a costume trio like.. the powerpuff girls (first one that popped into mind, D is definitely down to be bubbles) i have many thoughts on a halloween party!!!! (also, D makes mc and G carve a pumpkin with her. it doesnât go well.) - đŚ (signing off)
Hahaha that's so good! I think G would rather die than be forced into a blossom costume (I don't think they'd agree to buttercup either but it seems slightly more possible.) I think it's absolutely canon that on their first Halloween together, the orientation gang wears a themed costume and throws a party!
I feel like Sam would've wanted to go as something LOTR and I could totally imagine Sam and MC having lots of fun pranking neighbours under the guise of trick or treating every year, to the point that coming up with a new and ever more elaborate prank has become a Halloween tradition.
Carving pumpkins sounds really cute and wholesome--I could imagine the whole tennis team doing that together at Tobin's house (best design "wins" and Rayyan/Emerson obviously get wayy too competitive, Deepal's design is the silliest possible and Jacks is undisputed winner). I can see them drinking spiced mulled wine or cider after, Tobin's special recipe.
Would folks would be interested in reading these as side stories or would yall prefer I focus on IF progress? Cause right now I prioritize the latter at the expense of having absolutely zero extra content for the ko-fi folks đ¤Ł

Hello a fan of your work here. Something you said caught my curiosity. So, I was wondering why itâs okay for the guy to be âhumiliatedâ in front of the girl and not the other way around? Also, how is that smoothie incident an âhumiliation â rather than a funny/cute accident? Also, does that mean the girl should always be perfect in front of the guy? If so, doesnât it imply that, since 100%-of-the-time-perfection doesnât exist, the girl would have to aim for it for the boy?
Okay so this is in general has to do with the main theme and core theme of the relationship between the powerpuff girls and the rowdyruff boys TO ITS CORE and from its conception itâs tumultuous and toxic~ I have no wants to change their dynamic just twist it around a little bit to fit the narratives I like right!
Specifically this has to do with blossom and brick and their dynamic as enemies/lovers/friends/ppl. Blossom priorities her image and perception! She is perfect and prim and proper and classy as explained many times in the show and would be mortified if something like that happened to her in front of brick of all people! Brick is someone spECIFICALLY âď¸đŤľ who is watching for blossom to slip up like this and find a way to get under her skin! SO blossoms biggest flaw is that she has none (to the naked eye)! if he catches her??? AND he likes it?? Very weird to me wags finger do not enjoy. If this were buttercup this wouldnât be an issue she wouldnât care in this case it would be funny and cute, but itâs not itâs blossom!
This whole smoothie thing is not the worst thing in the world tho right but it brings up a bigger issue that could turn into something more. Brick (or the other guys///) is not in any case, to me, allowed to have the upper hand in their relationship he may win a battle (I donât even want this much for him tbh) but he is not allowed to win a war. The rowdyruff boys when they were made have the full intention of destroying the girls with the power of MISOGYNY LMAO so something like this where he sees her other than what she wants and thinks itâs cute makes me skin crawl just a lil bit! I have seen it many times in narratives to humble the girls and bring them down a notch and thatâs not what Iâm interested in itâs tired and lame
So yeah itâs not a GUY AND A GIRL itâs a powerpuff girl and a rowdyruff boy.

I have to ask out of curiosity, on the TVTropes wiki page, the Miraculous Ladybug page says that the show is a Magical Girl/Superhero genre hybrid of sorts. If you believe that is the case, since I believe it might be just speculation, would that change or impact what the rules can be established or removed in either of these genres?
The reason why I made the essay with Magical Girls at its focus - was simply because Iâm more well versed in Magical Girl stories than super heroes. As well as the fact that it hurt me deeply as a fan of that genre.
But let it be known. Miraculous Ladybug suck ass as a Superhero story too.
For mostly the same reasons as I stated in the Magical Girl Analysis becauseâŚ
Well, Magical Girls ARE superheroes.
Like, sexism has sort of wrapped peoplesâ idea of what Magical Girls are but despite all the frills and cuteness - these are girls that fight evil on a daily with super powers and secret identities.
You see, Japan and the USA have very different ways of marketing their animated show for children. Japan has a very gendered demographic, you have Shoujo and you have Shounen. Theyâre aimed for different audiences. While boys have stuff like Kamen Raiden and Super Seitan, girls have Pretty Cure. They serve the exact same purpose theyâre just - gendered differently.
The USA hasâŚalso! Gender. Just. One.
Itâs supposed a nebulous âkidsâ with mass appeal, aka unisex of sortsâŚ? But no, really itâs just boys. And maybe girls to get them to buy toys.
When it comes to superheroes in particular, thatâs the main difference.
Itâs not a Magical Girl with Superhero thing, but American Superhero for girls with Japanese Superhero for girls.
The real issue MLB has when it tries to shoehorn in the Superhero theme is thatâŚit sorta sucks?
Like, if itâs lagging behind Magical Girl adjacent takes in the western hemisphere, itâs outright losing in the SuperHero department.
While Anime has been sort of mainstream for the last 20 or so years (maybe less), which leads to maybe 15 years worth of Magical Girl takes in western cartoonsâŚ
Thereâs almost a century worth of Superheroes before MLB.
Everything that could have been done by MLB was done by superhero stories at least in the 1970âs.
Even the idea of âgirls superheroâ is something seen before. Like, we have the powerpuff girls, we have wordgirl, we have Kim Possible, DC superhero girls, totally spiesâŚ
Itâs not a new concept. In fact, superheroes are such a common concept that blockbuster movies are running out of ideas. So theyâre throwing everything they can at the board to see what sticks, creating something so Goddamned convoluted no one has the brain energy left to keep up with it.
Sounds familiar?
Itâs obvious that the creative team took heavy inspiration from magical girls to make their superhero story. In their head, and at surface level, this makes sense.
BUT as Iâve stated above, thereâs a cultural difference between Magical Girls and Superheroes each baked into the identity of each genre.
This is the rough equivalent of trying to mix English Mythology with Japanese Mythology, knowing only about yokai and fairies in regards to eachâŚif you know nothing it sorta makes sense but if you KNOW
Then itâs total BS
Which by the way, American and Japanaese superheroes mixed in, with Chinese culture as powers made by a French guy who knows next to nothing about any of these culturesâŚ
Do you get why I keep calling Thomasâ weird attitudes towards his project a âfetishizationâ? Itâs because it is.
To summarize, even if you take this show as more of a Superhero story, it still sucks. My points would (for the most part) still stand. With the added caviar that itâs not only shameful for its lack of interest in its own genre - but the fact that every single person and their mother would see the story as 100x more uninspired. Because at least 5 other comics from 70s would have done smth similar with either powers or identities.
The only redeeming quality it had was it target towards little girls and doing so by borrowing the Magical girl aesthetic.
Which it fucking spat on and Iâm still pissed about it.
In regards, and trying to answer your question - itâs complicated.
This would essentially be a massive cultural exchange challenge.
For example, the reason why superheroes in the USA have powers given to them as failed experiments and radioactive waste, while Japan has magic or aliens⌠is very much tied to their history and cultural identity.
The values that each have reflect on their superheroes too - American Superheroes may value individualism more than Japanese superheroes do.
And again, thereâs the whole gendered thing. Superheroes stories in the USA tend to lean more gender neutral for mass appeal, Japanese superheroes are very heavily coded as in what theyâre meant for. (Cough the reason why thereâs so much queer subtext in magical girl stories cough)
So, asking the question âwhat rules should it make so that itâs a hybrid between these two genresâ, while a valid one, Iâm not sure I can be the one to answer it.
Because it depends. On what the creator saw, what they wanted, what they intended to say by mixing these two.
This is not something you ask AFTER youâve your show. These are the questions you ask BEFORE it.
To properly create a hybrid, you ought to have a vision. And take parts of each to create what you wanted to say.
MLB borrows (or should I say steal?) aesthetics and surface level aspects of both genres. It broke as many American superhero rules as it did magical girl ones.
In specific, The Alger Ego and Theme stands as something it fucked over in BOTH. But it also failed superheroes. In what way, I really wouldnât be able to tell.
Iâm not a fan of superheroes. I donât know why people like them, I donât know why they watch them. I have a mild understanding of them but trying to tell you in the same depth as I did in the Magical Girl Essay what exactly they did wrongâŚwould be an impossible task to me.
But if Thomas thinks that we, the magical girl fans, are mean to himâŚoh boy. Wait till he tells a Marvel Stan he thinks heâs made the best superhero story ever.
I would pay money for that

can you tell me about my aura? đŤśđŽâď¸đ´ thanks :)
Hi! Yes I can do that for you mamas.
I hear Pink, red ,yellow, and blue !
For yellow I giggled, I got a vision of the power puff girls. You have a very cute personality and itâs childlike. The pink in your aura shows me a bold courageous persona who is well liked. Blossom the powerpuff shows me you have a protective , leadership role youâll be taking on real soon so be ready. Youre energy is very playful otherwise I wouldnât get anything about power puffs omg đđ I love it. I also see a vision of grown up power puff girls I actually seen this b4 and will add it later. I see something about clothes. A clothing line⌠And itâs bratz themed. You like makeup? I see something beauty related and in the creative industry.
Red aura i screamed cause I see butter cup however itâs not her color. You have a strong presence and your aura leans towards âmasculineâ and thatâs ok. Explains why I see the creative industry because youâll need to do more and apply extra force in what you create.
Butter cup is showing me that you have that fighter/warrior spirit and can take up any challenges in the near future. You should focus on yourself more as some people may try to take you as someone they can get over, n I hear âmean streakâ with butter cup because she moves that weird behavior from folks out the way.
With the blue aura I hear âsky zoneâ which means to move past your limits. Look beyond what you think and change your perspective. However your blue part of your aura is saying take a trip to the beach as it âcools downâ your vibe and calms you down. You need a pick me up. Yes itâs winter but it cleanses your aura and you need a bath with sea salt soon. Hope this helps!

Doctor gals but powerpuff girls đ
Elise in the red is Blossom, because she's the oldest and also the biggest brain (although canonwise Ceres is secretly bigger brain). She feels like the mom/leader of the group anyways. Ceres is Bubbles because she is a soft uwu girl. I drew her both in her theme colour of yellow and also Bubble's blue for the sake of powerpuff girls. Lei in the green has to be Buttercup not because she's the toughest but because she's the strongest (in doing damage with her gun). Ironically, Lei is the weakest of the three physically based on canon stats LOL. Lei's STR is 25, Ceres' is 30 and Elise's is 40... LOL.
I guess this could be their Halloween costumers or something? XD Even if Halloween is over now.
I actually like drawing chibis a lot but I'm not very good with them ;w; I really want to practice so I can make more chibi stickers though! I love chibi stickers of characters and boy do I have a lot of OCs I wanna slap on my laptop. Speaking of stickers, I made one based on this art :3
It's waterproof and everything although it won't be fitting on my current laptop... Still super cute though so :3 going to save it for the future. Or add it to my giant collection LOL. Hopefully more OC stickers or stickers soon! :) One day... I will make... my sticker shop (COPE đđđ)

Hellooo everyone!!
My name is Dree! and I welcome you to my fantastical galore of arts and works! I am an artist and writer who loves shipping her OC Ava Rosamaryllis to various fictional characters and make harems (or sometimes cults) for her đ Both either from my own OCs or other fandoms! Usually from either anime, games, or cartoons!
WARNING: My blog and content also includes Yandere Themes, and with yandere themes sometimes includes gore, blood, violence and some unhealthy things. Theyre part of the stories in many or all of fandoms when I make a story for my OC with said fictional character/s that I pair her with. Altho while majority of my content will have fluff and cute sappy romance stuff, yandere can or may make appearances in my stories. My content will also very rarely sometimes feature sexual innuendos. So, you are warned. Be careful, and have fun! And be nice. đĽš
FANDOMS! (Bold are fandoms that have characters I ship my OC with):

To say I'm tired of the whole "it's just a children's series" response is putting it as light as a feather. I don't want to hear writers like Ian fire back with that. Already heard far too much of that shit from the likes of Thomas Astruc. Not when I've seen series for preschoolers have more mature writing and respect for their target audience. As a pure observer, shows like Bluey don't have a big adult fan base just because they think the square shaped doggo characters are cute.
Who's Thomas Astruc? ... ohhhhh.
"It's a kid's series, it ain't that deep fam" is anachronistic after Friendship is Magic ushered in a new era of children's cartoons written with enough care to be enjoyable to adults, in 2010. Obviously it's not the first cartoon ever to do so (again, AtLA is famous for this, and before that even shows such as the Powerpuff Girls and Courage the Cowardly Dog), but after that we got a nearly unbroken trend of cartoons formerly aimed at children, but with a strong fanbase of teens and young adults who can appreciate the characterizations and themes.
And you know what? FiM is actually a great proof to the argument that things don't need to be "dark" to be appealing. FiM is, overall, very fluffy and slice of life, unlike other famous cartoons such as SU or Infinity Train or (from what I've glimpsed) The Owl House. And yet it was beloved, because it was well-written!
But if you want to be dark, well... this time I can point to Infinity Train. The first season had a protagonist who couldn't grapple with her parent's divorce, and it hit way too close to home. The second season had a protagonist who needed to create her own identity and wasn't taken seriously as a creation of the train. The third season had a former antagonist, a rebel teen who engaged in vandalism and bullying and more or less created a little cult, actually going through the steps of redemption, while being paralleled with her friend who instead kept sinking deeper. And that's not mentioning some gruesome scenes.
Not once I felt talked down to by these cartoons. I believed in Grace's redemption, and I believed why Simon couldn't do the same. IDW talks down to me... literally, if we take the infamous Sonic's Pope Speech lol. It wants to be Deep, but it lacks bite.
