The visionary art of Alex Grey and Ken Wilber’s integral theory
Alex Grey is a painter/sculptor/performance artist whose work deals with issues such as death, spirituality and the synthesis of life’s polarities. His work integrates knowledge from diverse sources such as art history, science, religion and philosophy. Grey is also an author of books such as The Mission of Art (2001), in which he analyzes the history of art and his personal journey (especially in relationship to spirituality). Ken Wilber is an author, psychologist and philosopher, mainly concerned with the evolution of human consciousness and the discovery of the transcendent self. He has developed an “integral vision” which incorporates elements from Eastern and Western scientific and spiritual traditions. Wilber defines the term “integral” (Ken Wilber: Thought As Passion, 2003) as following:
The word integral means comprehensive, inclusive, nonmarginalizing, embracing. Integral approaches to any field attempt to be exactly that-to include as many perspectives, styles, and methodologies as possible within a coherent view of the topic. In a certain sense, integral approaches are “meta-paradigms”, or ways to draw together an already existing number of separate paradigms into an interrelated network of approaches that are mutually enriching.
Wilber describes integral theory (The Marriage of Sense and Soul, 1998) as a pluralistic approach which embraces important ideas from various disciplines/wisdom traditions, and also includes the major levels of existence such as matter (physics), body (biology), mind (psychology), soul (theology) and spirit (mysticism). He uses the term “The Great Nest of Being” to describe these various levels of existence- as seen in the diagram each level/dimension envelops and integrates the other levels/dimensions, much like a series of concentric circles.
Wilber’s integral art theory includes existing modern and postmodern theories and also incorporates “consciousness” or a spiritual dimension. For Wilber (Sacred Mirrors, 1990, p.14) the experience of spirituality which can be evoked when contemplating art is an “experience (of) nonduality, the union of the subject with all objects and the discovery of universal or transcendental awareness”. Integral art theory incorporates major art theories (intentional, formalist, reception-and-response, symptomatic) into a single, “holonic” model. Very much like “The Great Nest of Being”, it can be visualized as concentric circles of enveloping theories and interpretations. In Wilber’s opinion (The Eye of Spirit, p.102), "any specific artwork is a holon, which means that it is a whole that is simultaneously a part of numerous other wholes. The artwork exists in contexts within contexts within contexts, endlessly." These contexts include (2001, p.121): -the original intent of the maker, which may involve numerous levels of the psyche, both conscious and unconscious -the formal relationships between elements of the work itself -the history of reception and response to the artwork -the wider contexts in the world at large (economic, technical, linguistic, cultural). Wilber says (p.121) that each context “brings with it a new meaning, a new light in which to see the work, and thus constitute it anew…any particular meaning of an artwork is simply the highlighting of a particular context.”. Therefore, Wilber points out, there is no single correct interpretation of art, but a multitude of contexts/ viewpoints; each theory (p.102) “is part of a nested series of truths.” For the author Keith Martin-Smith (http://www.integralworld.net/martin-smith.html), integral art "sees a continuum of sliding truths, sliding contexts, sliding meanings. These, though, do not land the artist and the critic and the viewer in aperspectival madness, but rather orient them to an important insight: there is no single standard for great literature, great art, great music, etc". Grey embraces Wilber’s “integral vision” as he attempts to interweave multiple aspects of existence in his work (physical, emotional, spiritual etc.). For him (Transfigurations, 2001, p.102) integral art is:
A work of art that integrates…the greatest range of form and content and the greatest span of being to serve the greatest good. The most inventive and harmonious diversity of forms, sounds or sensations; the broadest type of content including scientific truths, deep emotions, moral questions, and the complete span of being from matter, body, mind, and soul to spirit.
In Grey’s painting “The Soul Finds Its Way” one can see his interpretation of death, mainly influenced by Tibetan Buddhist theories. A recurring motif in his work is his “X-ray vision”, where numerous layers of the human body’s material and spiritual components are pictured. Grey says (2001, p.104) that his work “bridges the different levels of reality; the physical anatomy of Western medicine interlaces with subtle energetic systems of Eastern medicine”. For Grey (2001, p.128), dying is the dissolving of the essence of five elements (earth, water, fire, air and space), one into the other, which manifests with definite external and internal signs; after bodily death the human soul either becomes one with “Universal Awareness” or reincarnates into another physical body.
Grey says (The Mission of Art, p.207) that the creation of art can be a spiritual practice:
A spiritual practice is an activity that enables you to develop the qualities of mental clarity, mindfulness of the moment, wisdom, compassion, and access to revelations of higher mystic states of awareness…An artist’s craft can become a contemplative method and his or her creations can provide outward signs of an inner spiritual journey.
Wilber suggests (The Eye of Spirit, p.122-126) that not only the creation but also the contemplation of art can be a spiritual experience as it “suspends our will” and our “egoic grasping in time comes momentarily to rest.” He describes spirituality in general (The Integral Vision, 2007) as an attitude of love, compassion, understanding, and a form of awareness or transrational intuition which can be experienced by everyone (a subjective, transpersonal experience of the sacred- unique to every person). For him, spirituality represents (Integral Psychology, 2000, p. 130) “the very highest capacities, the noblest motives, the best of aspirations; the farther reaches of human nature.” As examples of spirituality (2007, p.28) he cites cases of “peak experiences”/ altered states of consciousness/ “mystical” experiences (such as feeling united with nature, experiencing a sense of primordial emptiness, sensing universal love, becoming one with the “flow” of things etc.).

TAFAKKUR: Part 268
EXPANSION OF THE UNIVERSE: Part 3
THE HUBBLE TELESCOPE
Another article, published in Nature, presents us the first and deepest picture of space taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. This caused the astronomers to compete in solving the mysteries of the arts of God. The picture, also known as the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, was broadcasted and published in various programs and journals. It has not only shown us the farthest stars of the universe, but the youngest as well. It was very difficult to detect such weak light with the former technology. This picture reveals the embryonic universe, with an age of only 500 million years old. Estimated age of the universe is 13-14 billion years. Three physicists from American Natural History Museum in New York started a competition to publish an article on the Ultra Deep Field picture after the data was disclosed. They hope to answer many questions about the past and future universe. A group at the Stony Brook University, New York, directed by Kenneth Lanzetta, analysed the embryonic samples in the picture to try to discover when various galaxies had been born and how they had evolved. Two other groups are studying the motions of stars and galaxies, as the picture is a result of data collected over a month.
Having looked at the expansion of universe under the light of recent discoveries, now we turn our attention to two other arguments that could be relevant to expansion. Namely, ether (a substance which it is believed fills up the vast universe and which is the ultimate building block of the space), and the seven-layer-universe.
Despite the Michelson-Morley experiment, which argued against theory of luminiferous ether, the propagation of electric, light, or heat in space shows the existence of a substance through which they flow. The Michelson-Morley experiment is nothing more than just a test of the non-existence of certain qualities of ether. For example, in order to show the existence of photons, of which light is made up, we cannot go beyond showing the features of photons. In other words, depending on how we have defined its qualities, we can observe different aspects in the photon, ether, or anything else. In fact, even today, we don’t really know what a photon really is, although we observe its affects every day. In short, it is not possible to show the non-existence of phenomena that cannot be absolutely defined. Instead, we can only test the existence of the properties that we have defined and attributed to them, and thus we better understand their nature of existence in the context of those pre-defined qualities. Hence, the existence of ether is still controversial and needs more thorough research.
SEVEN LAYERS
Regarding the seven-layer-universe, on the other hand, how is it possible for ether to manifest itself in seven heavens? It may be that these seven layers are not all posed above our heads, but rather that they may be found one with another. The universe is composed of many systems and networks that are the building blocks of their counterparts on larger scales. Each system is governed by laws, which differ slightly from one another. Inside the atom there exists a proton with its unique organization and in a proton we find quarks. For example, communication between protons and electrons is mediated by the electromagnetic force, while the quarks inside the protons communicate via the strong force. These interleaved circles show us that the universe is indeed composed of numerous layers.
We may use these layers for the metaphysical world as well. The human being is not only composed of matter, but also has a mind, a soul, and intelligence. Although these components are accepted as existing by all, their exact nature has not yet been explained by positive sciences.
It seems that the universe is composed of at least two different worlds: The material world (physical) and the immaterial (metaphysical) world. Are these two worlds completely separate, or do they have some features in common? In fact, the existence of humanity might prove to be this common set. But, it may also be true for the universe itself. Nursi states that the distant galaxies, stars and planets are not empty, but home to many spirits and angels who have their own consciences. Thus, one can say that despite the boundaries which separate these two worlds, such as different numbers of temporal and spatial dimensions, they constitute a whole, the Universe. The interaction between them will never fail as long as the universe exists.
The existence of two separate worlds is not that difficult to believe, but there is more:
It is He Who (prepared the earth for your life before He gave you life, and) created all that is in the world for you (in order to create you – the human species – and make the earth suitable for your life); then He directed (His Knowledge, Will, Power, and Favor) to the heaven, and formed it into seven heavens. He has full knowledge of everything. (Baqara 2:29)
The Qur’an calls the heaven where the sun, moon and stars are the lowest heaven or the heaven of the world (Mulk 67:5). The other six heavens may be the heavens of the worlds of the Hereafter.1 We are not sure whether this seven-layer heavens can only be attributed to the physical universe. It might be able to apply to the universe as a whole, with its all seen and unseen layers as well. Even the worlds of angels and spirits may be expanding in accordance with the laws therein, to show how the power and the wealth of God are comprehended in those worlds as well. Although our Earth is finite, the expansion may not be restricted to our finite world, but it may continue in infinite worlds as well.
It is possible that the space being filled with ether has an important role in paving the orbits of planets or stars, as well as other heavenly bodies. We believe that future studies on dark matter, ether, and string theory will help us to better understand the expansion process of the universe.

Kalari and Ayurveda- two fruits of the same tree planted by sages
By Guru Yogi Shivan
Spirituality is India’s gift to the world. Rishis, the ancient sages, who wrote the hymns of the Vedas, in their quest for the ultimate truth also gave to the mankind vast knowledge for the fulfillment of a meaningful life. It was these great sages and seers, who through their meditative prowess identified and developed the medicinal system of Ayurveda and the martial art form Kalaripayattu also known as Kalari for the upliftment of society and mankind as a whole.
For those unfamiliar with the ancient way of living, it may sound surprising as how can a seer or a sage can be guru (teacher) to a martial art form or how can he develop a system of medicine with elaborate description to the medicinal value of plants and treatment of diseases. To add to this ‘Bharatanatyam’ is one of the oldest and popular classical dance form in India. The origin of this dance form can be traced to the sage Bharata Muni, a Rishi who wrote the book ‘Natyashastra’. Such was the contributions of these great ancient sages that they touched every sphere of life.
Kalaripayattu or Kalari is the first and the mother of all martial art form in the world. The Kalari originated in South India and there are two styles in practice. The Guru of Thekkan (southern) Kalari is sage Agastya and guru of Vadakkan (Northern) Kalari is warrior sage Parasurama. Though the real recorded accounts of the ancient Indian history has faded away with time, due to a series of invasions that India underwent, there was undoubtedly a rich Indian culture and tradition that created a healthy society. This glorified past of the land Bharatam or Bharat which later came to be called as India can still be traced in various parts of the country and in Southern state of Kerala in particular. A number of South Asian martial arts are believed to have originated from Kalari and still shares many similar fighting styles.
Of these Kalari, other than being a martial art form has various dimensions to it and was developed for a greater cause. It was a martial art form practiced by men and women of all ages thereby building a healthy society. They specialized in one or more of the important weapons of that period including the spear, sword and shield apart from various techniques of fighting with bare hands. Kalari tournaments were often held with much pomp and splendour and these arenas were also the recruiting ground for the warriors of erstwhile King’s army.
The medical side of Kalari – Masters turned healers
Kalari also has a medical side to it. The masters of Kalari were also well versed in the art of healing which was taught to the disciples. This was incorporated in the martial art form by the seers so that those practicing Kalari were also able to keep diseases at bay. Also, they could heal if anyone of the fellow mates was wounded in the practice or during the actual performance of the martial arts. Those who learn Kalari are also taught various aspects of the human body as the flexibility of body, focused mind and the correct moves are considered vital elements in Kalari. The control of breath ( Pranayama) and its various manifestations were put to good use in the Kalari on the outer level. The master of Kalari is called as Gurukkaal and even today many approach them for treatments of various ailments mainly outer injuries, muscular problems and even broken bone. The masters of Kalari were learned scholars in various marmam - vital points in the human body. When in the battlefield, if the use of these vital points in the body was to neutralize the opponents, back home, it was used to cure diseases and has a medical purpose to it. Marmashastram (Science of Marmam) stresses on the knowledge of marmam and is also used for marma treatment. Kalaripayattu teachers were also qualified experts in various forms of massages (uzhichil) with medicinal oils. This they gave to students to increase physical flexibility and to develop a healthy body. It was Kalari that lend the massages to Ayurveda system of medicine. Thus, we can see how Kalari is closely knitted to Ayurveda and Yoga.
Though Kalari in ancient Kerala was practiced by women and men, still there were people who were unable to practice it. Mostly, young children and old people. When a Kalari practitioner was able to fight diseases affecting his body through various means of practice as laid down in Kalari, there was a need for proper treatment mechanisms for the common man. This is where the Ayurveda came in. The vision of the great Indian sages was so vast that they bridged this gap by formulating Ayurveda system of medicine.
The great Ayurveda system was developed by these sages not only by the trial and error method but also through immense knowledge they acquired by their intense meditation. It is claimed that even these sages were able to transform themselves in their deep meditative state to match the level of a plant to unravel their medicinal values and pass it on for the betterment of the mankind. The medicines were developed for both internal and external application. The modern-day medicine through their intense research and various laboratory tests are now slowly accepting the fact that various medicinal use of plants as laid down in Ayurveda are indeed true. But it may require many years for the western scientific acumen to fully grasp the knowledge that Indian seers gave to the mankind.
Having said this, though the Western reductionist science does not have space for the findings of the Indian seers, the newly evolved quantum physics has come very close to ancient Indian philosophy. German physicist, Hans-Peter Durr, who put forward the duality principle in quantum physics had said that he is just playing the second fiddle to the ancient Indian sages who taught the great Advaita philosophy to the world.
The spiritual side of Kalari – Joining the dance of the cosmos
The martial art form Kalari has a spiritual nature attached to it. Envisaged and passed on to the disciples by the great sages, Kalari’s spiritual side is little known today to the modern world. But those who practiced Kalari and went out in search of the ultimate truth that connects a human being deep within and outside were able to recognize the spiritual side of Kalari. The great warrior masters ‘Chekevars’ as they were called, through arduous practice of the martial art indeed were able to identify and tap this huge spiritual potential attached with Kalari. The great sages Agastya and Parasurama passed this vital aspect in Kalari to their disciples and it was passed on from one generation to the other by the Kalari gurus. These ‘Chekavars’ apart from Kalari also practiced ‘Dyana’ or meditation and were able to tap the cosmic energy.
It is said that a ‘Chekavar’ never tastes defeat on the battlefield. Kalari is practiced in ‘Kalam’ which can be translated as Kalari arena. Once the Chekavar declares a fight with an opponent (usually another Chekavar) they start Vritham (penance) and involves in ‘Dyana’ or meditation. Till the day of the fight, the Chekavar involves in these practice in the Kalari training centre. If a Chekavar does not return from the arena of the fight it means he is dead. That means the great Kalari warrior fights till the last breath and joins the dance of the cosmos once he leaves the body. That also implies that he never returns to bear the weight of a defeat. Thus, every Chekavar remains undefeated.
In a way, we are all Chekavars. This life of ours is the arena where ‘we’ the warriors are constantly fighting diseases. We should all be duty bound to lead a complete and meaningful life to evolve victorious. Kalari, Ayurveda, Yoga and all those passed on to mankind by the great sages of India will be a guiding light.

HOW TO BURN CANDLES FOR ALL OCCASIONS
Candle burning is an ancient spiritual practice that has evolved into a complex magickal art and science without losing its simplicity and capacity for creating powerful change. To practice successful candle magick, you must understand the principles behind this application. They are:
Candle Colour
Size and Shape
Candle Flipping
Marking and Dressing
Measuring
Charging
Lighting and Extinguishing
Colour Correspondences
Colour has a profound effect on human behaviour, feelings, and emotional outlook. The impact that colour has on the human psyche did not escape the attention of the ancient maters, who assigned specific correspondences to each colour.
The colour of the candle should always, if possible, match your goal. People’s perception of, and reaction to, colours can be highly individual experience, therefore, the list below should act only as a guide and not a definitive source. When in doubt, trust your intuition.
White- Protection, healing, cleansing, blessing, all purpose.
Yellow– Creativity, communication, compelling.
Pink- Romance, friendship, happiness.
Orange- Employment, activation, stimulation.
Red- Health, passion, lust, strength, love.
Purple- Power, success, independence, spirits.
Brown- Friendship, law, stability, order.
Blue– Truth, justice, mental health, wisdom, wishes.
Green- Abundance, physical health, luck, prosperity
Black- Banishing, binding, protection, cursing.
Size and Shape
Candles come in an array of shapes and sizes, which I will divide into three categories, votive, Household, and Vigil. Votive candles are smaller, burn quicker and hotter. Therefore they are often used for spells where fast results are needed. In some cases they are burned around taper, vigils, or honey jar to speed up results.
Most, in not all, candle spells, are worked using tapers. These candles can range anywhere from 6 to 12 inches or longer and come in every color of the rainbow. The thickness of household tapers will also vary.
Vigil candles are encased in glass and often have special labels indicating their use or purpose. They can burn anywhere from seven to nine days. Pillar candles are similar to Vigil-Candles, however they are not encased in glass. Pillar candles can be used as an alternate to Vigil Lights. They may be marked with a wish, dressed with oil, placed on an overturned saucer, under which a written petition may be placed. For long term goals, a pillar candle can be prepared in this manner on the day that corresponds to your goal which falls closest to the Full Moon. The candle is then burned on the same day of the week every week until your goal is manifest. If your candle is spent and your goal has yet to manifest, prepare a new one, lighting it from the flame of the old one, before it is spent.
Candle Flipping
Candle Flipping is a very old practice, which some say originated with the Gypsies, who were said to burn candles ‘upside down’ to ensure they would not be (justly or unjustly) incarcerated.
To flip a candle means to cut off a portion of a candle where the exposed wick is, called the head; and then cut away the wax on the opposite end, called the foot, to expose the wick on that end. As a general rule, candles prepared to pull things towards you are burned upright, those designed to move things away from you are flipped and burned upside down.
Marking and Dressing
To mark a candle means to inscribe something in its wax. Candles are marked with two pieces of information, they are:
Who the candle spell is to affect.
The goal of the spell.
The name of the individual can be written in your native language or in a magickal alphabet. Your goal may be written in the form of a keyword or phrase, or a magick symbol such as a Rune, Astrological Sign, or even a magickal symbol of your own making. In either case, the candle is marked vertically from the top of the candle to the bottom, with the name of the individual on its ‘face’ and the goal on the reverse.
Dressing a candle refers to the act of anointing the candle with oil. Candles are anointed with oil to spiritually cleanse them and seal the magick inside until releasing it through the act of burning the candle. Candles are anointed in two ways, either to draw things towards yourself, or drive them away.
To anoint a candle, hold its base against your abdomen (as if to insert it in your belly button). To draw something to you, dip your finger in the oil and stroke the candle from the tip to base three times and call the essence of your desire, using a keyword of phrase. To drive something away from you, anoint the candle from base to tip.
Herbs represent another aspect of dressing candles, which brings an added dimension to the process. After dressing the candle with oil, it may be rolled in a mixture or a combination of an odd number of herbs from 10 to 13 and never more than 13. Herbs chosen for dressing the candle should match your goal.
Measuring
In most spells, a candle will be allowed to burn until it burns all the way down and finally extinguishes itself. However, some spells require a candle to be burned in intervals at specific times. The method of dividing a candle to accommodate these intervals is called measuring.
Candles are measured in two main ways, They are timing, and pinning. In timing, a candle is allowed to burn for a certain number of minutes per day over a certain number of days (typically nine days, but also sometimes 7) and then allowed to burn out on the last day.
In pinning, a candle is divided into a certain number of sections by sticking a needle or pin through the candle. The candle is then burned at the same time every day for as many days as required until the needle drops, at which time it is then extinguished.
In the case of a candle that is measured with needles or pins to burn for nine days the candle is divided into nine equal sections with eight pins, and a ninth pin going through the wick.
If a written petition has been placed under the candle, the pins will be placed in the petition until the spell is complete and then ritually disposed. If not petition has been written, the pins will either be saved for re-use or ritually disposed of with any left over wax.
Charging
Now that your candle is prepared, it must then be charged. To ‘charge’ a candle means to fill it with energy, much like charging a battery. Charging a candle fills it with power that it will release into the universe as it burns in order to accomplish your goal.
To charge your candle, hold your hands over it and form a triangle with your forefinger and thumbs. Position the candle in the centre of your triangle. Visualise that which you desire as your make your fervent prayer or petition. When you are done, gently tap the candle on the table three times to signal that your intention is sealed.
Lighting and Extinguishing
Many individuals light their candles with ordinary matches, while others feel that the sulphur with which matches are tipped, disturb the nature of the work. These people light a small candle in another room, which they use to light their spell candles with, at the appropriate time. The effectiveness of your candle spell will be greatly enhanced by focused intent and chanting during its preparation and burning, as will having a clear vision of your goal
Extinguishing candles is another issue where magickal practitioners are divided. Methods of extinguishing candle include:
Pinching out the flame, but some say you pinch out your wish.
Blowing out the flame, but some say you blow away your wish.
Snuffing out the flame, but some say you snuff out your wish.
Just like lighting your candles, you will either have to experiment or trust your instincts when choosing how to extinguish your candles. Whichever methods you choose, it is important that you remain consistent.

Yoga
Yoga began its emergence into bmw houston civilization some 10,000 years ago through the Tantric tradition. Evidence of deities resembling Shiva and Parvati were found in the Indus Valley civilization after archaeologists began to excavate numerous statues from ancient city grounds, reminiscence of the 10,000 year old tradition. This was the yoga of the pre-Vedic, pre-Aryan age, in which the top the tradition flourished throughout various parts of India. Shiva being the central figure in a majority of these recovered statutes gives evidence to the historical doctrine that door clearance center denotes Shiva as the founder of the yogic system.
In the yogic tradition, Shiva is traditionally considered to be the symbol of supreme consciousness. His partner and counter force is Parvati, who represents supreme knowledge, will and action. For about the is also responsible for all creation as she is the acting force within the universe. This force or energy is also known whirlpool outlet as kundalini shakti, the cosmic force which is dormant within all living beings. Our Rusty is also regarded as the mother of the entire universe. Her grace and guidance is responsible for the liberation of the soul, releasing the individuals from the bondage of worldly matter. Concho said to be imparted to humans through Parvati out of love and compassion for her children. Yoga was a manifestation an extension of the Tantric system. Just as Shiva and Parvati are inseparable, so too are tantra and houston seo expert the yogic system.
Tantra is derived from two Sanskrit words, those of tanoti and trayati. Trayati means liberation and Tanoti literally translated as expansion. We can then assume that tantra is the science of expanding the consciousness and liberating the energy known as shakti within washer dryer clearance the body. Tantra is the way to attain liberation from the bondage is of the world in the physical identification with the body and objects associated with it.
In tantra we pursue the path of liberation by first understanding and gaining insight into the limitations and capacities of the body and mind. After we have understood these limitations, we then begin to explore the expansion of consciousness which eventually leads to the liberation of energy within the body. After we have crossed these scratch and dent appliances houston various levels the individual consciousness expands and is liberated into the universal consciousness which permeates through the entire universe.
The yoga of yore
For a long time in history yoga was a secret system with its practices and techniques hidden from public view. In ancient times yoga was an oral tradition, its teachings and practices number inscribed or written on parchment. Only through the guru disciple relationship was the teachings of yoga revealed, and only to those who are ready to study the spiritual practices and techniques. This system was very productive and useful as it ensured clear understanding and a strong trade school relationship between the disciple, the guru, and a spiritual teachings. Much importance was given to the personal experience of the yogic system, and the correct path was outlined by the guru who helped remove any confusions or ignorance regarding the spiritual practices and techniques. Only through sincere aspiration with the guru's guide their disciples; disciples who pursued too much intellectual contemplation or were seeking the path of yoga in order to gain boons or powers were discount refrigerators denied the teachings and access to the knowledge of yoga.
The first time that yoga was written in the book are inscribed on paper was within the ancient tantras. Later it was also revealed through the Vedas which were written sometime around 500 BC. Although the Vedas do not give any particular reference to any spiritual practices or techniques, they do you know the system of yoga through metaphors and symbolic representation. It is said that the Vedas were appliance clearance sale revealed to me rishis and saints who were immersed in a deep yogic state of meditation known as samadhi.
It wasn't until the Upanishads that yoga began to take a definite shape and noticeable form within a written system. The Upanishads contained the essence of the Vedas, revealing the most essential points inscribed in the lexus houston numerous books that collectively made the Vedas. The Upanishads are said to be the culmination of the Vedas and together they make up the a Vedantic.
The next significant texts in the history of yoga was the Patanjali yoga Sutras which are said to have been written in the second century A.D. Patanjali's yoga sutras formed the raja yoga discount washer and dryer system, a definite and unified perspective of yoga with references to techniques, philosophy, and spiritual ideals. Patanjali's yoga sutras are often referred to as the eight fold path of yoga. The eighth sequences consisted of yama(self-restraint), niyama (self observance), asana, pranayama, pratyahara(withdrawal of the senses),dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation), and samadhi. Whether practiced in sequence or as a complete system the eight fold path provided a clear perspective of the spiritual path. It also gave an outline for how to accomplish the unification of individual consciousness with the universal cosmos.
Later in the sixth century BC yoga began to adopt the Buddha's meditation practices as well as the ethical and moral philosophy trade schools in texas that later became the outline for Buddhism. Unfortunately this transition and adaptation removed a lot of the preparatory practice that were designed by the yogis to prepare one for meditation practices, many of which are necessary and often times vital to the preliminary preparation for contemplation and concentration.
Yoga philosophy believes that before any meditation practice can be done the elements of the body and mind must be balanced in harmony with one another. For this reason Gorakhnath presented an extended series of practices to prepare the body for meditation. These practices were later employed as the hatha yoga system. Later one of the major authorities on hatha yoga composed the hatha yoga pradipikia, a text clearance refrigerators that is widely used today and is referred to as Light on Yoga.
The practice of yoga in the 20th and 21st century.
While the spiritual philosophy and practices of yoga have endorsed a higher order of living and thinking, today yoga has been continuing education disseminated for a wide variety of purposes and practices, some spiritual, some not. Although many people practice yoga in order to gain wisdom of the spiritual life, there are also many who utilize yoga in order to aid in the health, fitness, stability, balance, and well-being of the human body, mind, and soul. With modern language in mind, many forms of yoga have emerged including yoga psychology, yoga therapy, yoga fitness, yoga dance, and just about any synergy imaginable especially those associated with the arts and other forms of self-expression although we have discount appliance warehouse not the time to discuss all of these.
What makes yoga fundamentally one of the most successful systems for human well-being is the fact that yoga practically and systematically works with all the aspects of the human body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Yoga is a holistic principle which works to unify the various elements in the body. Once these elements have been balanced than unification with higher orders can be achieved including that of community unification, harmony with nature, and merging with the cosmic divine. But these used appliances houston higher orders do not have to be pursued in order for yoga to be useful. Today yoga has successfully been used as an alternative form of therapy for diseases, disorders, and dysfunctions.
Yet this modern development has not prevented or limited the existence of the traditional science of yoga, one which revolves around principles of spirituality and higher goals for human life. Fundamentally, yoga still exists as a science and practice which can be used in order to expand the elements of the human mind, body, and spirit, influencing each of these levels of human existence in order to enhance the quality of life. Ultimately yoga can lead one towards the divine which is also recognized as a sense or being of universal theme, one in which the infinite elements in the universe are united under one cosmic force and consciousness which are responsible early childhood development for all of existence.
The modern expression of yoga combined with the ancient traditions of India have led yoga into a new dimension of philosophy, psychology, medicine, therapy, and spiritual science of which all are practiced both domestically in India and nearly all other countries abroad. Yoga is no longer limited by the confines of society and has unfurled itself within a global society in which all individuals can seek refuge under the spiritual order and science of yoga. As people begin to explore full potential of consciousness, life's fundamental purpose is revealed and our true nature is expressed in its fullest form. Although Indian's have benefited from the science of yoga for nearly 10,000 years, yoga is now making its way into the daily lives of people all over the globe. Whether it is introduced as a medicinal practice or a technique for appliances houston building muscles and agility, yoga eventually carries each individual towards the higher goals that are embedded in the practices and techniques outlined by the yogic science.

Workshop Report (Rachel Carson Center, 28–29 June 2017).

College of Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung), Ulm. Architect: Max Bill. Photo: Andreas Bohnenstengel, CC BY-SA 3.0 DE. The college is considered by some as a founding institute in the fields of visual comminication and information and building and industrial design.
The relationship between environmental history and the history of the built environment has only recently begun to gain substantive attention in the field of architectural history. This Workshop brought together leading scholars to discuss the interpretive and analytic methods relevant to Environmental Histories of Architecture, and to assess the conceptual challenges presented to the field.
The discussion focused on a number of related themes: First, the question of disciplinary adjacencies. Architectural history has long positioned itself in relation to art history and other aesthetic/cultural realms of inquiry. How does the environmental history of architecture emphasize interaction with other fields (such as, but not limited to: history of technology, environmental history, science and technology studies), while continuing to emphasize familiar engagements (media studies, post-colonial studies, issues of human rights, for example)? Specific methodological innovations were discussed in order to open up these fields for scholars of architecture. In particular, presentations by Carola Hein (TU Delft) proposing a broad methodological framework for analyzing petroleumscapes, and Torsten Lange’s (ETH Zurich) discussion on architecture, environment, and pedagogy, suggested new connections. Isabelle Doucet’s (University of Manchester) discussion of the work of Cedric Price and Ant Farm’s Dolphin Embassy made explicit and compelling connections to the surge of recent literature on the role of nonhuman agency in reconsidering social habits and practices in the Anthropocene.

Second, the Workshop discussed the question of instrumentality. Given that many histories of architecture and environment engage with technologies, social formations, and design methods that are again (still?) of relevance today, the environmental history of architecture threatens to exceed the historian’s critical distance from contemporary practice. What are the terms by which scholars can negotiate this operative impulse? Are there examples from other fields or from other arenas of architectural scholarship that can serve as models here? Ginger Nolan’s (University of Basel) discussion of architectural and environmental pedagogy helped to frame new avenues on these terms. Mark Kammerbauer’s closing comments were also focused on how new knowledge being developed at the intersection of architectural and environmental history can frame new trajectories in design education.

And finally, the broader disciplinary effects of the environmentalization of architectural history were considered. Given that the project is not simply to add object to the database but, rather, to pose new frameworks, narratives, and figures for the development of architectural ideas, are there specific historiographic consequences? For example, do some individuals (architects, critics, historians) emerge as newly significant, while other become less so? Should we adjust the periodicity of architectural-historical knowledge with reference to the Anthropocene, the Great Acceleration, or other recent revisionist periodicities? What are the new means by which we might conceptualize familiar architectural ideas in light of increased engagement with related environmental histories? While these large-scale concerns were not addressed directly, presentations by Laurent Stalder (ETH Zurich) and Caroline Maniaque (ENSA Normandie) provided useful context. Stalder’s discussion of the origin of the plan as a tool for architectural knowledge helped to put the negotiation of environmental effects in the field in perspective. Maniaque’s discussion of the Whole Earth Catalog assessed how counter-culture discussions in the 1960s and 70s often played out in an architectural context—reflexively, the field of architectural history faces challenges to its familiar frameworks and narratives when taking such cultural developments seriously.
We had the pleasure of a number of interlocutors from the RCC and elsewhere, who engaged in discussions about the general themes and the specific content of the presentation. One such participant was James Beattie, Professor of History at the University of Waikato (NZ) and Director of the University’s Environmental History and Garden History Research Unit. For this report, I posed a few questions to Professor Beattie in order to explore some of the potential relevance of the workshop to other, related fields.
How do you find the concept “environment” to be developed in architectural histories vis-à-vis other, related fields of inquiry?
Environmental historians such as myself associate “environment” strongly with ecological change, with the living and non-living components of an ecosystem, and more particularly with the physical, material dimensions of its existence. The historians of architecture who presented at the workshop were particularly astute at divining the cultural constructions of environment and its manifestations in a range of different media and from a range of different cultural perspectives—something environmental historians might associate more with intellectual history.
Does architectural history provide a novel frame for environmental histories more generally?
Environmental historians tend to associate the twentieth century with what we may loosely call “The Anthropocene”— a period marked by the acceleration of the exploitation of the natural environment, accompanied by different patterns of behavior associated with consumerism, travel, and economic expansion. Many environmental historians would point to the physical manifestations of this shift, while architectural historians stress the cultural and intellectual dimensions of this within the praxis of architecture. (Left to be more carefully analyzed, perhaps, is how this cultural dimension of architectural practice leads to specific physical manifestations.)
Are there ways in which environmental histories of architecture open up specific themes for environmental historians and Are there certain themes or approaches that benefit from more attention in order to contribute to the broader discussion of environmental history/environmental humanities?
One point going forward might well be to focus on the broader physical changes taking place during the Anthropocene. Environmental historians are especially good at focusing on the large-scale, to the detriment of avoiding smaller, public and private spaces such as the garden or an architectural space, so perhaps having historians and historians of architecture work on a common site would allow for an interesting development on both sides.

TAFAKKUR: Part 267
EXPANSION OF THE UNIVERSE: Part 2
DARK ENERGY
The groups who worked in the above study figured out, from the brightness of supernovas in distant galaxies, that the universe must expand more and more in the future due to a peculiar dark energy within it. The concept of dark energy was first postulated by Einstein, who named it the “cosmological constant.” However, since this did not fit in well with his theory of general relativity, he withdrew it and said that it was a scientific blunder. Since then, dark energy has had a rather controversial history.
A team of 27 astronomers, directed by Professor Efstathiou of Cambridge University, proposed strong evidence supporting the existence of dark matter, based on completely novel techniques. Their results, which were consistent with previous supernovas, showed that the universe is indeed full of dark matter. Professor Efstathiou thinks that the explanation of dark energy might include additional dimensions like creation (Big Bang) as well. Fr. Lemaître also proposed the expanding universe theory at an opportune time since Edwin Hubble would soon release his red shift observations that strongly supported an expanding universe and, consequently, the Big Bang theory. Here, the Big Bang is seen as the beginning of a continuous expansion.
The verse seems to tell us miraculously that the expansion of the universe will not cease, despite our limited knowledge of the physical reason for its acceleration.

Brain Waves Theory of Bhagavad Gita’s Consciousness and Vedas: . The most scientific truth taught to the world by Hindu texts, Vedas are the sacred sounds and Vibrations that control everything within and beyond Vacuum. Universal creation and destruction revolves around sacred sound ओ३म् (ॐ). The Earth, the Moon and the Sun are moving and protecting all living things with a natural frequency pulsation of 7.83 HZ — The frequency is known as ओ३म् (ॐ) OM. . Our life and the surrounding around depends on two subtle environmental signals, the Yin from below and the Yang from above. The Schumann wave surrounding our planet being YANG and the weaker geomagnetic waves coming from below, from within the planet, being the YIN signal. The equilibrium of earth and revolvement of planets is maintained by Sacred sounds as mentioned in Hindu texts. Our brain’s ability to become flexible and/or transition through various brain wave frequencies plays a large role in how successful we are at managing stress, focusing on tasks, and getting a good night’s sleep. If one of the five types of brain waves is either overproduced and/or under produced in our brain, it can cause problems. For this reason, it is important to understand that there is no single brain wave that is “better” or more “optimal” than the others. . Our brain waves get in sync with the waves of planets in deep yogic meditation. It happens when alpha and theta waves are perfectly balanced w.r.t other waves across the entire brain, a communication is possible between the human being and the planet – connection is developed. Energy and information which are embedded in the Sunya or Zero point (Aether ) is shared with the human brain. The planet communicates with us in this primal language of frequencies. The communication happens through the divine sound language that transcends through inter-dimensions and exists everywhere. . What the Invaders Missed and Never Knew: No invader or attacker can ever win over India or its local natives (Hindus). No one can ever destroy its culture. There is always the supreme Bhagwan protecting the Bharat Varsha (Divine India) and Sanatan Dharma. Ancient and modern Hindus (now Sages) are fully aware of communicating through (biological medium) mind and body with consciousness of the Universe. . The illiterate muslim invaders being foolish, demonic barbarians when got the opportunity to acquaint Vedas and Hindu texts instead demeaned them and denigrated sacred symbols of Hinduism across India. They tried unsuccessfully to spread anti-Human cult islam. The chance to gain Vedic knowledge and eternal wisdom for mlecchas got lost forever due to their veiled manmade rituals and manual teachings. . When sea mapping was done by Hindus of Bharat (now India), westerners flocked to the country to study the local civilization and truth about prosperity of native Indians (Hindus). Most of them were interested in looting the country, robbing off the wealth of erstwhile prosperous Hindu Rashtra, Bharat. There were very few seekers from West who came to India to realize the truth of existence and life. Once they somehow comprehended nuances of Hindu texts at surfacial level, they started renouncing their western traits of meat-eating and drinking. They made India their first and last home, never going back to the West. Hardly some of them became global ambassadors of Vedic wisdom. They were more of the view in finding solace for themselves than spreading knowledge of true human values. . Some may call them selfish but that’s how they led their lives. Until the turn of the 19th Century, the Western view of the Hindu religion was mostly identified with a dazzling array of cultural mosaic and mysticism of India filled with both imaginable and unimaginable. It began to change after Swami Vivekananda gave his famous speech on the teachings of the Vedanta in Chicago in 1900 during the gathering of the World Parliament of Religions. . The loot and killings done by Muslims and Britishers led to decimation of their strength and ever-ending misery for the community people ever after. The Karmic cause and effect undid the prosperity and well-being of attackers. If the invaders had instead embraced the Vedic knowledge with humility they would have made the world a peaceful place. . Teachings of Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Contribution to Modern Science: The true teaching of the Vedanta contained in the Gita, Vivekananda told his mesmerized Western audience, has very little to do with the flying sadhus, the endless Hindul rituals, and the caste-system. Citing the Gita, he voiced his opposition to organized religion, priestly control of spirituality, and then he also informed us of the existence of the female Rishis (Vedic teachers) in the Vedanta. Over night, Vivekananda introduced to the West the true liberated teaching of the Gita: pursue the beauty of inner Self through the art of detachment and meditation, and harvest the bounty of spiritual fountain. Half a century later, it was a nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who finally brought the Gita into the popular vocabulary of the scientists in the West by citing this quote from the Bhagavad Gita.
“If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one.” and “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” [July 16, 1945, inscription at first nuclear test site Trinity, New Mexico] . With this began a western love affair with the wonderful tradition of the Vedic philosophy and the Gita. Since then, many scientists have quoted the Gita. For example, famous astro-physicist Carl Sagan was awed by the revelation in the Gita that the creation and destruction, an essential part of the cosmic evolution, was actually postulated in a more realistic vast time scale [8.17-8.19] . “The Hindu Dharma is the only one of the world’s great faith dedicated to the idea that the cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite number of deaths and rebirths. It is the world’s only religion in which the time scales correspond to those of modern scientific cosmology. Its cycles run from our ordinary day and night to a day and night of Brahma, 8.64 billion years long, longer than the age of the Earth or the sun and about half the time since the Big Bang.” Cosmos (New York: Random House, 1980). . Meditation, yoga, and the idea of spiritual living have now become an accepted part of the mainstream society. These popular phenomena have also begun to come under objective scrutiny. As the science discovers the power of spirituality through various scientific tests, the essence of the Gita becomes ever more relevant to our modern society. The simple idea of meditation discovered five to six thousand years ago in the Rigveda (oldest of the four Vedas), and a preferred choice of the true knowledge seekers, has been scientifically shown to have power to alter brain waves. Experiments have also shown that meditation reduces criminal intent, stress, and anger, and helps with recovery from illness. . Based on the teachings of Gita, some scientists have been doing experiment by placing electronic devices around the world to detect the existence of concentrated brain wave. They were baffled by an unusual level of concentrated signal picked up by their detectors during the time of the 9/11 incident, Madrid bombing and the similar global catastrophes. A global attention on a single event like the 9/11 seems to have some sort of abnormal effect. . Quantum Consciousness from Srimad Bhagavad Gita Teachings: Likewise, the idea of consciousness has triggered a debate among the quantum physicists who study sub-atomic particles. It was first raised by a brilliant physicist John Bell of the CERN laboratory in 1964. In his article fully inspired from Gita, John Bell tried to solve an EPR paradox, named after Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen. Without going into details about the paradox, the issue in question is this: how does one sub-atomic particle know of the altered behavior of the other particle and respond accordingly, even though they are separated by light years of space…??
Do they contain some common information engrained in them at the time these particles were created? How do they become aware of each other to react so instantaneously at such a vast distance? . Barring some conditions and technical details, this is known as the principle of entanglement, or Einstein’s famous doubtful quip on the quantum physics: “spooky action at a distance”. Bell demonstrated the possibility of measuring the existence of such a “spooky action” and laid out some conditions to resolve the paradox between the classical and the quantum physics. . At any rate, not being able to explain the source of such an entanglement, however, John Bell in his paper ended up confessing in the concluding paragraphs the possibility of consciousness as being at the driver seat in this cosmic dance of creation and destruction. This is exactly what the teacher ( Krishna ) tells his beloved disciple (Arjun) in the Bhagavad Gita that the omnipresent Self, manifesting itself through trinity, is behind the creation and the destruction of this universe. We physical beings and the nature are just the actors in this cosmic dance. . To that end, quantum physics which is based on Hindu text and Vedic teachings, has attempted to show through experiment that the sub-atomic particles behave unpredictably (in a probabilistic sense) and can exist in multiplicity except when it is observed. This raises the possibility that the physical surrounding around us is just one of many possible “worlds” that comes in existence in its fixed form only in reference to our viewing or the frame of mind. In Gita, Bhagwan Krishna alludes to the possibility of this other “parallel world” by telling Arjun of having already witnessed the Mahabharata battle and its outcomes. Is this the maya (illusion) that the Gita warns us about? That is, is reality the projection of our mind as postulated in the Gita..?? . If the mind can play a trick on the physical reality, as Bhagwan Krishna says in the Gita, then are the objects and the viewers of the objects both somehow entangled and become aware of each other’s existence..?? If true, then what connects the two –mind and matter– will be a vitally important question to those who study particle physics. For the first time, John Bell’s famous paper has allowed scientists to test the existence of the entanglement between the sub-atomic particles. Similarly, others have attempted to test the similar effect through studying the meditative state and its effect on the physical surroundings. . “After the conversations about Indian philosophy, some of the ideas of Quantum Physics that had seemed so crazy suddenly made much more sense.” [W. Heisenberg,German Physicist, 1901-1976] . Mind and matter after all are the products of nature, and the entanglement between the two may be caused by something else. This something else is what has become the source of a heated debate among the quantum physicists. Like John Bell, a well-known theoretical physicist, Dr. David J. Haglin, also argues the existence of the concept of the universal awareness –or propagation of information sharing throughout the universe coming out of the primordial singularity. He calls it consciousness, and suggests that the ultimate unified theory in physics, explaining everything from big galaxies and black holes to the sub-atomic particles, must incorporate the concept of consciousness at the very root of it. . Inspired by the Gita and encouraged by the scientific evidence behind the power of meditation within the controlled environment, Dr. Haglin has initiated a project in India involving mass meditation. He hopes to change group behavior to promote peace through such concentrated meditative contemplation. The power of intention through contemplation to alter personal disposition is amply articulated in the Gita as well, and scientists have just begun to scratch its surface. Interestingly, many Hindu scriptures speak of highly accomplished Rishis as having power to calm the other beings around them. But, there is much to learn about the relationship between the mind and matter. Nevertheless, efforts are underway to make good use of such potentiality. . For example, physicist like Dr. Haglin focuses on the physics of entanglement to harness the power of meditative minds for enhancing peace. A genius Nobel Laureate like Richard Feynman, on the other hand, saw an opportunity in entanglement –simultaneity of possible information propagation in particles– to produce quantum computers with infinite computing capacity. In both cases, a proper understanding of consciousness is likely to serve the humanity. . Biology of Consciousness from Srimad Bhagavad Gita: Microbiologists have begun to study the process of human evolution from a single cell organism into a complex functioning biological body. How the trillions of cells in a body interact with each other as a community has become the subject of scientific investigation. To some scientists, this brand of investigation is also knows as “biology of consciousness”. . For example, Dr. Bruce Lipton, a cell biologist in the medical field, cites his research to refute the idea that our personal disposition and diseases are genetically pre-programmed. Instead, he argues that our cell membranes, acting like a human receptor, can respond to the outer environment and send proper signal to our body to “prepare it”. We change our personal disposition, he argues, accordingly to the information our senses receive. Thus the DNA mutation is not necessarily a random act; it can be triggered by our senses in response to interaction with the outside physical world. Because of the evidence of abrupt changes in various species, the Darwinian theory of gradual evolution over a vast span of time scale has proven to be a hoax. Our quick adaptability seems to be the underlying cause of our progress. Our ability to create an Oneness between the Soul and the physical world seems to be in line with the teaching of the Gita. .
Dr. Lipton argues that a person growing up in a violent environment tends to build necessary defenses (e.g., larger bone and muscle mass), and he cites an experiment done on the two identical mice. The cell membrane of such a person, interacting with the outer environment, sends information to the brain and to other cells to shift energy to build necessary defenses. Consequently, the human body shifts its focus away from the frontal cortex (intelligence) of the brain and toward the backside of the brain. This idea of live consciousness, interconnectedness, and information sharing has fascinated many scientists. This shows that the idea of the connection between mind and matter as described in the Vedas five/six thousand years ago is more than an abstract faith. The idea of the detachment of our soul from the bad surrounding physical environment, described in the Gita, seems so logical. . Dr. Lipton further cites example of how organ recipients (e.g., heart and liver transplant) mimic the behavior of the organ donors. The idea of information transmission across these microbes and our cells (e.g., domestic and foreign cells) raises an interesting question regarding our biological connectivity, both within and outside the body. The Gita and the Vedanta literatures postulated such idea four to five thousand years ago through the concept of the omnipresent Atma or the Soul and its existence down to our minute molecule. The existence of the Soul in all living creature opens up the possibility that we living creatures are all somehow connected just like what the entanglement theory of quantum physics postulates. The Gita had proposed this idea thousands of years ago. . Dr. Lipton pushes this idea further to argue that the well being of our body and mind can be influenced by controlling our receptor (“cell membrane”) and channeling it only to receive “good thoughts”. This is exactly what the Gita teaches us to do: control our senses through meditation to be a sattavic (goodness, caring) person, and to shed characters such as tamasi (ignorant, devious) and rajasi (passion, greed, and drive). The Gita specifically talks about the influence of the tradition on our behavior, and so it urges us to reject bad belief system [18.15]. Dr. Lipton’s analysis also puts much emphasis on the role of the belief system in our ability to receive information and produce changes in our biological functioning. The Windbridge Institute for Applied Research in Human Potential ( University of Arizona ) has been conducting scientific research to test the existence of the soul under various control experiments. Some findings have also been published in peer reviewed journals. .
There is much to discover in science to learn about the role of consciousness in the fundamental physical law. Until then, one should have an open mind, and enjoy the wisdom of the Gita, which encourages us to be aware that the Soul is permanent, whereas the physical self goes through the cycle of natural law of cosmic creation and destruction. According to Vivekananda, this non-secular universal teaching is what’s behind the Vedanta philosophy and Hindu literature. . Script and Idea : haribhakt.com

Here’s what you need to know before you play ‘Persona 5’
Image: atlus
What is Persona 5 and why will gamers not shut up about it?
If you’re not plugged in with Japanese role-playing games colloquially referred to as “JRPGs” then it’s easy to miss Persona. The series lacks the mainstream name recognition of a Final Fantasy, and its unusual gameplay isn’t easily summed up.
SEE ALSO: A brief history of Persona, from 1996 to today
It’s worth taking the time to learn, however. Persona is a special series, and this fifth numbered game is doubly so. I’m here to make a case for playing Persona 5, even if you’ve never touched a JRPG in your life (but especially if you have).
Just to be clear: this isn’t a comprehensive history of the series, which is an entire saga unto itself. This is specifically a look at the kind of experience you’re settling into when you play.
What is Persona 5 all about?
At the most basic level, Persona 5 combines elements of dungeon exploration and turn-based combat versus monsters with the time management and relationship-building of a social sim. By day, you’re a Tokyo high school student where joining the right clubs, making friends, dating, and socializing all count for something and by night, you’re a dungeon explorer.
Sometimes. This is where the time management comes into play. Progress through Persona 5‘s story is tracked according to dates on a calendar, and that calendar spans multiple months of the school year.
Time matters in this game, meaning whenever you choose to do a particular thing, you are also simultaneously choosing not to do any number of other things. If you spend an afternoon exploring a Palace Persona 5-speak for dungeons then you can’t go out on the town or visit the cute doctor in your neighborhood.
In the story, your unnamed protagonist and his ever-growing circle of friends are Phantom Thieves. They have the ability to visit Palaces which are physical manifestations of a person’s darkest inner desires and steal the treasure contained within. Doing so erases the IRL Palace owner’s questionable impulses and forces them to face the reality of any hideous acts they’ve committed.
A typical day
Each day in Persona 5 consists of multiple phases: Morning, Lunchtime, Afternoon, After School, and Evening. You don’t always have control over what you can or can’t do at a given time of day. Sometimes, certain phases won’t even come up. But that’s the basic shape of things.
When it’s a school day, there’s a scripted routine of leaving your home the upstairs room of a local cafe and taking the subway to Shujin Academy. On a lucky day, you’ll nab a subway seat this happens randomly and automatically which gives you some extra time to read.
Once you arrive, there’s typically a slice-of-life cutscene where something happens during class. You might chat with a fellow student and field a question from a teacher. The internet is your friend when the latter happens, as correct answers can boost your stats.
Most days, the After School and Evening hours are yours. You can visit a Palace which takes up both phases go shopping, brew coffee, work out, study, hang with friends, and more. Managing the time you spend on all of these activities each of which provide different benefits is one of Persona 5‘s primary challenges.
The important thing to remember when you’re playing: there are so many calendar days. Yes, you’re usually operating under a timeline. But that doesn’t mean you should rush to complete a Palace before you’re ready. Take advantage of Persona 5‘s glacial pace. That’s why it’s there.
Personas and combat
Image: Atlus
In the same way that Palaces exist as a fortress to protect a bad person’s darkest desires, Personas are the physical manifestation of a person’s psyche. They are both the source of your and your friends’ powers and the sum total of enemies you do battle with.
Each party member is locked to a single Persona, and thus a single set of abilities. They’re typically specialists of some kind or another; one party member might be your go-to for fire, another for ice, for bless, for nuclear… all the different types of damage you can do. Personas level up and gain new powers alongside their human counterpart.
Your own character is special for spoiler-y reasons in that he can wield and switch between multiple Personas during any given battle. He can only carry a set number at once, but he’s able to level all of them up and even fuse them together into more powerful Personas. And of course, as that collection grows so too does the protagonist’s ability to deal all the different types of damage.
That flexibility is a valuable asset in Persona 5‘s combat, where enemy weaknesses and strengths play an all-important role. Hitting an enemy’s weakness staggers it, effectively canceling its next turn.
Stagger all the enemies on the screen during a single turn which ends after all your party members have acted and a new set of options appears. You can try to capture one and add it to your Persona collection, shake them down for helpful items, or commit to an “All-Out Attack” a powerful group pile-on that immediately ends most fights against standard enemies.
Here’s how you know you’ve got the hang of Persona 5 battles: most of them end before the enemy gets a chance to attack even once. Bosses and minibosses work a little differently they don’t end as quickly but the premise remains the same: exploit weaknesses as you discover them.
Palaces and Phantom Thieving
Most of Persona 5‘s battles play out in Palaces, which you visit and slowly map out over a period of days and weeks. Your ultimate goal as Phantom Thieves is to locate a Palace creator’s treasure and steal it. Once you find the treasure, you leave a “calling card” in the real world thus setting up your final visit to that Palace and its attendant boss fight.
Safe Rooms are your progress markers as you explore, with each one you find adding a fast travel location to your list for that particular Palace. You’re not meant to map out an entire Palace in the space of a single visit, so fast travel is an essential tool though you can only use it when you’re in a Safe Room.
There are two stats to keep in mind for each of your characters as you explore: HP and SP. The first is a measure of your health and can be restored at any time using a variety of consumables and/or Persona abilities. The latter is what you spend whenever you use a Persona ability; restoring that one is… trickier.
There’s a small handful of consumables that restore SP, including one coffee that you can learn to make in the real world. Generally speaking, however, SP exists to limit your time spent in Palaces. You’re not supposed to have an easy time restoring it; when one or more characters run low, that means it’s probably time to call it a day and head back to the real world.
Friends and Confidants
Image: Atlus
The most important piece of Persona 5‘s long-term strategy is finding a balance between your time in alternate dimensions and the real world. The former is where combat, character leveling, and Persona acquisition happen; the latter is where you gather useful resources and maintain relationships.
Many of the important people in the main character’s life are called “Confidants.” Your means for interacting with them and building a relationship varies from character to character, but the basic premise remains the same: relationships level up as they grow, unlocking various benefits bonuses for Persona fusion, new items to craft (such as the aforementioned coffee) or buy, and boosts to your abilities.
Building stronger links with your Confidants isn’t an exact science since your bonds are tracked invisibly. It largely depends on how you better the main character as a person across five different categories: Knowledge, Charm, Guts, Proficiency, and Kindness.
These social stats are fueled by the various things you do in the real world. Your Knowledge increases when you study or answer questions correctly in class. Guts get a boost when you participate in clinical trials or read certain books.
Figuring out how to improve different social stats is something you learn as you sample the many things Persona 5‘s Tokyo has to offer. Different Confidants connect to different social stats, so choosing which one to focus on improving is often a matter of deciding who you want to be closer with.
As you interact with friends in the real world, occasional pop-ups let you know your relationship is ready to improve. Those pop-ups serve as an important alert: the next time you hang out with the person in question, your Confidant rank will rise.
The most important thing to understand about Persona 5‘s social simulation: it’s not something you can overlook. Real world activities and relationships give you the power you’ll need to tackle the game’s increasingly challenging Palaces and other alternate dimension locations.
In summation
Image: atlus
I’ll say this outright, just in case you haven’t picked up on it already: Persona 5 is a very slow, very lengthy game. Expect to spend a minimum of 80 hours digging through the story, and probably more than 100 if you’re new to the series.
You’re going to read lots of text and spend similar amounts of time wading through menus. This is an exciting game, but it’s not focused on action. The key hooks are the story, the characters, the art design, and on the gameplay side the allure of slowly building this team of thieves and planning metaphysical heists together.
Persona 5 is a very rewarding game, but it’s also a commitment. All I wanted to give you here is a better sense of what you’re getting into once you settle in.

Generally speaking, however, SP exists to limit your time spent in Palaces. You’re not supposed to have an easy time restoring it; when one or more characters run low, that means it’s probably time to call it a day and head back to the real world.
Friends and Confidants
The most important piece of Persona 5’s long-term strategy is finding a balance between your time in alternate dimensions and the real world. The former is where combat, character leveling, and Persona acquisition happen; the latter is where you gather useful resources and maintain relationships.
Many of the important people in the main character’s life are called “Confidants.” Your means for interacting with them and building a relationship varies from character to character, but the basic premise remains the same: relationships level up as they grow, unlocking various benefits — bonuses for Persona fusion, new items to craft (such as the aforementioned coffee) or buy, and boosts to your abilities.
Figuring out how to improve different social stats is something you learn as you sample the many things Persona 5’s Tokyo has to offer.
The most important thing to understand about Persona 5’s social simulation: it’s not something you can overlook. Real world activities and relationships give you the power you’ll need to tackle the game’s increasingly challenging Palaces and other alternate dimension locations.
In summation
I’ll say this outright, just in case you haven’t picked up on it already: Persona 5 is a very slow, very lengthy game. Expect to spend a minimum of 80 hours digging through the story, and probably more than 100 if you’re new to the series.
You’re going to read lots of text and spend similar amounts of time wading through menus. This is an exciting game, but it’s not focused on action. The key hooks are the story, the characters, the art design, and — on the gameplay side — the allure of slowly building this team of thieves and planning metaphysical heists together.
Persona 5 is a very rewarding game, but it’s also a commitment. All I wanted to give you here is a better sense of what you’re getting into once you settle in. Source : mashable

TOWARDS THE WORLD OF "RIGHTEOUS SERVANTS": Part 2
The fourth characteristic of the generation to whom the final inheritance of the earth belongs is to review and re-evaluate the established views of man, life and the universe. The following points should be considered in this respect:
Firstly, the universe is a book written by God for us to study over and over again. Man is a transparent index of all the worlds, a being able to discover the depths of existence. As for life, it is the manifestation of the meanings filtered from that index and book, and reflected by Divine Expression throughout the universe. If man, life and the universe are three aspects of a single reality with each having a genuine colour of its own, then a partial approach to them will be a disrespect to both man, in particular, and the whole creation, in general, as it will demolish the harmonious composition of reality.
As it is indeed incumbent upon man to study, understand and obey the Divine Revelation – the Scripture – derived from God's Attribute of Speech, so too it is necessary for him to perceive all things and events to which God gives existence through His Knowledge, Will and Power. Being the manifestation of the Divine Attribute of Speech, the glorious Qur'an is the spirit of existence and the sole means of happiness in this world and the Hereafter. The 'Book' of the universe is the embodiment of this spirit and is an account of the branches of science originating in it. It is therefore a very important dynamic of both worlds, direct in relation to this life, indirect with respect to the other. For this reason, there will be a reward for understanding both of these books and applying their principles in practical life. Those who neglect or ignore them will meet the consequences of their neglect.
Secondly, a man's humanity lies in his feelings, thoughts and character, which are also the standards in determining his esteem in the sight of both the Creator and the created. Sublime human attributes, depth of thought and feeling, and a sound character, are valued by everybody. The one who adulterates his faith and conviction with irreligious thoughts and causes distrust in his character, will neither be able to receive God's support and help nor preserve his esteem and dignity in the sight of people. It should never be forgotten that God Almighty, as well as people, evaluates a man according to his human character, and who lack human values are not able to perform great feats even if they appear to be good believers. On the other hand, it is impossible for those who are distinguished with laudable virtues and a sound character to be always subject to utter failure despite their apparent weakness in living in conformity with religious principles.
Thirdly, an Islamic goal can be achieved through Islamic means and methods only. It is absolutely incumbent on a Muslim to pursue Islamic goals and adopt Islamic methods in attaining his goals. As it is impossible to secure God's approval without sincerity and purity of intention, so too, neither can Islam be served nor Muslims directed toward their real targets through diabolic means and methods.
The generation who will take on the responsibility of bringing justice and happiness to the world should be able to think freely and respect freedom of thought. Freedom is a significant dimension of man's free will and a key to the mysteries of human identity.
The Muslim world has been under pressure for centuries from both within and outside. Under such conditions where restrictions have been put on our feelings, thoughts, culture, and education, it is almost impossible for a person to remain with human faculties, let alone realize a renewal and development. In a climate where it is difficult to remain even as a common man with human values, it must be quite impossible to bring up a person of true greatness. Only people with weak character, inactive disposition, palsied brains and paralyzed feelings grow in such climates. Distorted thoughts and wrong criteria produced and propagated in both families and surroundings and in educational institutions and art circles in the later phase of our history, have upset everything unique to us – our view of matter and spirit and our physical and spiritual worlds. In this critical period, the leading élite presented their prejudices as free thought, lived an egocentric life, showed no respect for other beliefs and opinions, and went so far in maintaining different assertions or convictions that they did not refrain from resorting to force whenever they deemed it necessary to crush the free will and free thinking of the people. We are not sure whether that period has ended, though it remains necessary for us to review, on the one hand, our centuries-old historical dynamics and to question, on the other, the 'changes and transformations' to which we have given impetus for the last one and a half centuries. We are still, in our decisions, under some ideological taboos, in which case it is impossible for us to re-shape our world according to the requirements of a bright future. Such conditions as these give rise to nothing but political disputes, internal struggles and international conflicts. That is why there is a continuous internal discord in our community, in particular, and unceasing savagery worldwide, in general. Were it not for the egoism, greed and ruthlessness of mankind, the world would most probably be more different than it is today.
If this is so, we should realize the need to be more tolerant and more altruistic when we move forward toward a better future. We need today more than anything else magnanimous hearts and open, profound minds which are respectful of free thinking and open to the sciences and scientific research and which are able to perceive the harmony between the Qur'an and the Divine laws of the universe and life. This requires the existence of a community in which genius can flourish. In the past, a single person of genius could succeed in leading a nation toward high objectives, but today when everything has taken on an incredibly elaborate form, and specialization has gained prominence, counsel and collective consciousness have replaced geniuses. This is the sixth point which should be given due consideration by the generation who aim to give a better shape to the world.
We have not been able, in the latest phase of our history, to establish a desirable coordination between the vital institutions of the society. At a time when modern schools concentrated on ideological dogmas; institutions of religious education (madrasas) broke with life; institutions of spiritual training (takyas) were immersed in sheer metaphysics, and the army restricted itself to sheer force, this coordination was essentially not possible.
It is, indeed, a fact that modern schools could not save themselves from the influence of modern 'scholasticism' and ideological dogmas; institutions of religious education were closed to sciences and scientific thought, devoid of the spirit and the power to bring about new formations. The representatives of spiritual training lost their love and enthusiasm, consoling themselves with virtues and wonders of the saints who had lived in previous centuries. As for the army, which had once been the representative of the religious energy and activity and the symbol of national subsistence, it has developed the complex of self-assertion in the internal arena. Consequently, everything was upset, and the 'tree of nation' was convulsed so violently that it nearly toppled. Sadly it seems that, until the fortunate representatives of the bright future reform these vital institutions in a way that they can perform their real functions, and bring forward the wedding of the mind and heart so as to make the ground propitious for the upbringing of the perfect man of thought, action and inspiration, such convulsions of different degrees will not cease.
Finally, the generation who aim to give a better shape to the world should be equipped with mathematical thought. Mathematical thought implies a comprehension of the enigmatic connection between creation and the 'laws' of mathematics, and a discovery of the mysterious world of numbers. Without mathematics, it is not possible to perceive the mutual relations between man and things; it is mathematics which, like a source of light, illuminates our way along the line from the universe to life and shows us the depths of the world of possibilities beyond human imagination, thus enabling us to attain our ideals.
In order to obtain a full perception of existence, we should follow the laws of mathematics in all fields from physics to mathematics, from matter to energy, from body to soul, and from law to spiritual training. This implies the need to adopt both spiritual training and scientific research. The West, in order to compensate for a real or true system of spiritual training, has had to have recourse to so-called mystical movements. But Muslims have no need to search for a foreign system to quench their thirst for spiritual satisfaction. Everything a person may need to design his life on sound foundations, scientific, spiritual, rational, sociological, economic, political and so on, can be found in Islam, provided that he is able to understand Islam in its pristine purity and original comprehensiveness.
Lastly, in oder to understand the thought of art which righteous servants whom God promised the final inheritance of the world, should have, we should have a much more developed intellectual capacity and refined feelings and sensitivity.
