when we bought that salt and pepper mix Lucy was like "oh that sounds really good, but I have to warn you, you will not stop craving it once have had a little bit" and sure enough they were right but none of us could figure out why, and this keeps happening with other spicy foods as well.
but after eating some just now I realised our face seemed to hurt less and after googling some stuff it turns out that capsaicin can apparently be used to treat neuralgia, and since our neuralgia is in our face (mostly our cheeks and jaw), I guess it's just kind of been relieving that a bit.
I have no idea if that's actually why we're craving it but it is handy information to have at least.
(also mandatory disclaimer here that we're not a medical professional and you shouldn't take this as medical advice. it's just an observation about something and some stuff from a quick google search)
#personal#thoughts#🍬 post#apparently it blocks your nerves from being able to transmit pain properly for a while?#anyway at least we know that's a thing#we'd heard of people being given capsaicin creams for pain relief but never connected the dots there#I'm just like grabbing a bit of pepper at a time to chew on and it relieves the pain in our face for a short while#the pain doesn't fully go away but it's definitely more bearable#I feel like I should clarify it's spicier than just like normal black pepper because there are a few types of pepper in it#I have no idea how much it would help if it was only black pepper but I imagine there'd be at least some benefit to it

I’m sorry but I feel like Murdoc “growth” in this phase just sucks,,, it’s like they abandoned the entire “2D and murdoc are friends now” Because all I see is murdoc still using him to do things and saying dumb things like in his email where he mentioned “you guys makes working with 2D bearable” which can be seen as friendly teasing but idk. To me it still feels like a running gag of murdoc being a jerk but this time without the abuse. And also in the new music video, him leaving the band to save his ass just felt weird. Cuz I remember in the Last chord video where murdoc went out of his way to save the band first despite being in a dangerous situation where he’d usually save himself. Now THAT was growth, But in the silent running video,,, I just see that “growth” being torn. Opinions?
Ooo thank you for this! This gave me a lot to think about. I can definitely see where you're coming from, and I don't disagree with that critique.
I think the difference comes down to how you want to interpret Murdoc. To me, one moment of selflessness isn't an indicator of a significant turnaround. Progress isn't linear, there are a bunch of curves and backtracking and loops. And I prefer that for a few reasons, the first being that if Murdoc continued on that track, it would feel kinda...cheap, like they skipped over a lot of development and character exploration to make it all better.
I'm also not a fan of "Murdoc is overly protective of the ones he loves and will lay everything on the line for them!!!" characterization, personally. I don't fully understand where people get that interpretation. To me, he's always been a bit of a coward who cuts corners when he can. He doesn't have a lot going for him, and never has, so he's learned to rely on his wits and self-preservation, and he will do that to avoid anymore stress/pain/accountability etc. In this case, it was the risk of prison, presumably. One outlier moment won't (and imo, shouldn't) significantly change what has helped him survive his entire life. While it's"his band," but ultimately, he is looking out for himself. And regardless, I also don't think "Silent Running" took away from his development, because it said a lot that he even came along to help with the 2D situation. He was worried, but he's taking baby steps towards true altruism. Will he ever get there? Idk.
His insults towards 2D don't bother me as much either. His character is slowly growing into a goofy, comic-relief tsundere, so I expect it tot eventually become more evident that we aren't meant to take his shit-talking seriously. His character has also been a lot more about action than words. His word generally means nothing. What he actually does reveals his true feelings about things.
That all being said, Gorillaz lore is Gorillaz lore. I talk about "development", but I use the term loosely. They do seem to be putting some effort into Murdoc as a character though, and as of now, it still makes sense to me.
