oskar bäck pre-game — NYR vs DAL — 12.20.24
"yeah, i think it’s kind of easy to go down and play with — we play the game kind of simple, yes, more straight lines, so it’s … probably, probably pretty easy to come back, even if you’ve been out from the lineup for a bit, it’s easy to come back down."

6’2 black turtleneck figure skated barty save meeeeeeee
no because he's doing something to me too... and what a way of channeling all that ruthlessness / precision / two-faced quality he has in canon.
he skates like he's trying to kill himself but there is also a staggering amount of control! his face is on the back of those sponsored athlete kellogg's cereal boxes! he's pierced his tongue & his hip bones but nowhere visible, and his tattoos are down one arm and the left side of his back because those areas are covered up by his costumes...
crucially i think barty is still as much of a dirtbag, it's just that he appears to become an entirely different person on ice. this barty is just a touch more openly type A but so insufferably smug at all times because he KNOWS he's good... it's the incongruence between the Serious Athlete and the smug piece-of-shit in a ratty thrasher hoodie who's severely hungover at practice. he's sipping a red monster energy and compression-wrapping his ankles. this au is going to kill me i think?? barty & regulus as professional figure skaters who grew up together is genuinely insane

one of my all time favorite things about F1 that really applies to all sports in general is affectionate sportsmanship !! everybody is fighting for a title or a trophy or respect on their name and everything else you win but at the very end of the day most of the time they're just glad to be competing and love the people they've gotten to know along the way, it's not life or death anymore.
it's fiercely hugging the person who beat you at the end of a hard fought race because it was such an exciting thing to be a part of. it's jokingly shit talking a competitor but going off the instant anybody else says anything about them. it's jumping out of your car in a race that hasn't stopped yet to physically try to hold a car off a driver who is crashed and unconscious. it's saying hi to your family away from home every week and coincidentally it's your teammates partner and kids. it's coaches shaking hands and smiling and third place giving first a hand to the top of the podium. it's missing your greatest rival when they're away and waiting to congratulate them when they win because somewhere along the line of being enemies for 10 years that turned into a great friendship. it's giving up a win to your teammate against team orders when earlier they had to give up a win for you because of team orders. it's a pat on the back to the rookie. it's a compliment to the press about a move made against you. its pit crews for drivers that won 1st and 2nd running and celebrating with each other. it's hugging despite the helmets, lanelines, bikes, nets, padding, railing, rapiers, angry fans and egos
if you feel it drop your favorite affectionate sportsmanship moments in the tags or wherever, i'm in a mood

22/09/2024 - OTT @ TOR
carter yakemchuk debuts for the ottawa senators in preseason - a collection of comments.
"The only criticism I had on Yakemchuk that has persisted all season is that he is responsible for a lot of puck losses while attempting plays. Strangely, it’s not that Yakemchuk doesn’t have good hands. This was also mentioned previously when talking about his ability to change his shooting angles and to set-up plays for his teammates. The problem is that he thinks his hands are much better than they actually are." "This season, he tried to beat an opponent 1-on-1 five times more often than Artyom Levshunov, and twice as often as Zayne Parekh — the other hyper-offensive defenseman in this draft. The only players I could find that had a similar dangles-per-60 stat were all forwards." "Many think Yakemchuk’s pure skill and size will ensure he becomes a serviceable NHLer. But until he can establish better defensive reads and add more speed and mobility into his step, he’ll need to do a bit more to take his game up a notch." “He’s boom-bust,” another scout said. If he plays to his strengths, he’s going to be a game-changer. But he’s not going to have the same time and space to dangle guys in the NHL, and if that goes away, all he has is size. The other elements need refining.”"

“It’s overtime at Scotiabank Arena and 2024 first-rounder Carter Yakemchuk is on the ice in his first ever pre-season game. First thing Yakemchuk does is slip past 69-goal man Auston Matthews behind Ottawa’s net. Gathering speed, he races up the ice, dangles through Jake McCabe, and then pushes past Mitch Marner and finishes off the game by undressing former Senators goaltender Matt Murray with a neat backhand move. Welcome to the NHL and the highlight reel, kid.”

Obligatory first reminder of the season: it would be so much better to mix the teams’ commentators together on national tv than to listen to “unbiased” commentators who are just mean to both sides.
Also, it would be way easier to have enough commentators on the nights when all the teams play.
TNT and ESPN I’m right and you know it. Try it one hockey night. Please I’m begging
