I was so so SO thrilled to be able to contribute to the @hqanimalzine "Gone Wild" last year and, as is custom with my Seijoh 4 fics, it turned out to be absolute chaos 🤣

Do you ever make posts about the other teams?

As I have a special place in my heart for Bokuto and kenma

Ooh! Good question. I haven’t yet, since I’m only on my first watch-through and I’m really invested in Karasuno right now. To be honest, Noya is the only one to have gotten a dedicated post like the one you saw XD He’s my absolute favorite. That said, I love the other teams too!! My favorite non-Karasuno teams are Nekoma, Fukurodoni, Seijoh, and Johzenji.

I love Bokuto! He’s such a goofy golden retriever! And I love his dynamic with Tsukki and Hinata! To be honest I don’t have much to say about him other than that, which sounds bad, but I do love Bokuto. He’s a sweetheart!

Ooh, Kenma is great! I recently just finished the Nekoma episodes of season 4, and although I liked Kenma before I love him now! He’s very relatable, and I look at him and can see a lot of myself. We have vastly different temperaments, but his coping strategies for a lot of things and the way he interacts (or avoids interacting) with people are both things that are just so incredibly familiar to me. I thought it was so cute how he got mad at gravity during their episodes XD And that he finally admitted the team are his friends! Also he has really pretty eyes.

Some of my favorite characters from other teams are Yaku, Akaashi, and Tendō.

Yaku stole my heart as soon as I saw him, honestly, so he’s always the one I look for first when Nekoma shows up. I just really enjoy his dynamic with the team as a whole and individually :) Akaashi grew on me as seasons went by. I never disliked him, but originally I was very passive to him. And now the more I learn about him the more I can see of myself, and the more I get to watch him play and interact with his teammates the more I like him! I loved his little analysis breaks during season 4 while they lasted. Also he has gorgeous eyes. Like sir. Who gave you permission to have eyes that pretty?

And then Tendō. Never in a million years did I expect to like Tendō, let alone say he’s one of my favorites from a non-Karasuno team. When he initially showed up he gave me the creeps, and then he sang his little song while Yamaguchi was leaving the court and I decided I hated him more than Oikawa (for the record, I no longer hate Oikawa, but I did for a long while). And then we got his backstory and I sympathized because I’ve been there. I completely understand being the weird kid no one wants to be friends with. And after that I couldn’t hate him anymore, I was just happy he found a place he fits and he’s got a best friend and he seems to be pretty happy with his life. He’s a sweetheart too in his own way, and I loved all of his season 4 moments.

As far as teams themselves go, I’d say Nekoma is probably my second favorite, with Seijoh and Fukurodoni being tied for third, and then Johzenji comes in fourth. Johzenji is on here solely for their vibe, honestly. They seem like they genuinely have fun playing volleyball, and it was so contagious during Karasuno’s match against them! I’m not super attached to any of their players, but they are by far the most fun team to watch in a match for me. (Even above Karasuno, because Karasuno stresses me out and is going to be the reason I go gray early)

I love Bokuto and Akaashi, but they’re really the only Fukurodoni members I know. So while I love them both enough that it puts Fukurodoni on the list, I can’t say I love the team as a whole more than I love Seijoh or Nekoma.

With Seijoh I love three characters, but they’re all a bit mean in their own ways, so I can’t say I love them more than Fukurodoni because while I do enjoy them, I can’t ever bring myself to root for them. That said, my favorite Seijoh players are Oikawa, Iwaizumi, and Kunimi.

Nekoma has the best vibes out of pretty much any of the teams, as far as dynamics go. Like I would happily be a manager for Nekoma just so I could hang out with these guys. Like I said earlier, I love Yaku and Kenma, but I also really enjoy Kuroo and Fukunaga and Shibayama! Nekoma’s dynamic as a team has a special feeling to it that I have yet to see in any of the other teams, and if I had to be part of a team I’d probably pick Nekoma over Karasuno, because I feel I’d fit better with Nekoma’s vibes than Karasuno.

Karasuno is still my favorite team though by sheer virtue of “I love every single character on this team” (and also Karasuno is the only team that has Nishinoya, so they get major bonus points for that). I have an emotional investment in Karasuno that I don’t have (as much) with the other teams. I have watched these boys grow and learn and become better and stronger and learn to live up to their motto. They really are flying, and it’s amazing to watch, knowing where we started.

You were walking around the amusement park by your lonesome when you noticed the big machine. The two friends that came with you ended up bringing their boyfriends, and you got left all alone. But looking up at the disco pang pang ride, you tilted your head. The line was far from long. It seemed to be a lull in the evening as a lot of people were grabbing dinner or even heading home for the night.

“Couldn’t hurt,” you thought out loud. You trudged on over to the line, pulling your sweater sleeves down. You’d seen and heard so many stories about the ride. And as you pilled into the ride, you found a spot for yourself. It wasn’t crowded by any means. It was no more than ten people, including yourself.

Can’t wait to embarrass myself, you thought.

Oikawa

this asshole of a show off was able to calmly stand in the middle, balancing perfectly during the ride with what you only assumed was his friends telling him to sit down

you couldn’t tell if you wanted to let yourself be impressed or if you were mad he was able to do that at all

regardless you were struggling to even stay seated, jumping and being thrown about like a rag doll

the girl near you had slowly been yeeted towards you and ended up knocking you out your seat, into the center

everything happens so dang fast next

you can hear the park speakers blaring The Feels by Twice and you’re being thrown by the demon of a ride, struggling catch yourself even a bit

and as you’re thrown into the air, the chorus of the song hits

you’re grabbed, strong arms pulling you to your feet, pressing you into a broad chest

as you look up to see who helped you all you hear is

“YOU HAVE STOLEN MY HEART, OH YEAH!”

and you didn’t know if it was a omen or if irony but you felt your heart explode

the cocky, show off was the one keeping you stable

“Caught you just in time, princess! Hold on,” he chuckled.

You couldn’t even respond, cause you were just mesmerized by his everything. His eyes were so warm and energetic that smile on his face was actually not irritating at all, just really cute and fun-loving. This guy was having the time of his life.

Another thing you noticed with his strong grip was he wasn’t half as steady as you thought he was. But neither were you. As another jolt came, you found yourself falling again.

“Hey, hey!” the mystery guy called out. His strong grip on you was the only thing keeping you up. “Spread your legs a bit. It’ll steady you!”

He was still so smiley as you regained yourself, gripping his biceps for help. He was all giggles as the ride began to spin and you finally steadied yourself.

“So, what’s your name? Seems you’ll be stuck here a minute!”

“I’m ______,” you yell over the music and wind.

“I’m Oikawa! Nice to meet you!”

“You too!”

You could just barely hear him but he was mumbling the song’s lyrics and you snickered.

“Do you- Do you like Twice?!”

“Hunh? Oh! Yeah! They’re great! I love how fun their music is! I got to go to a concert of theirs actually. It was loads of fun!”

“Awesome! My sibling listens to them a lot. I’ve been meaning to get into them!”

“I can show you all their best songs! We should hang out after this! Make a lil date, hunh? I’d say you owe me after I saved you there!”

Cocky lil guy. Oikawa winked at you, playfully grinning. He sure was lucky he was cute, you thought. Cute, personable, strong, you had to admit, it wouldn’t hurt at all. Besides, it was better than hanging around the park all by yourself, hoping your friends return to you. You deserved to have fun and enjoy your evening too.

“Sounds like a plan!”

Iwaizumi

you were doing a damn good job for the first half of the ride truthfully!

especially considering you watched a strawberry blonde go rolling across the floor of the ride

but when the second half kicked in, with much jeering and whatnot from the mc, the ride was kicked into overdrive

when your half was raised and jostled, your hands slipped from the railing

and next thing you knew, you were getting thrown around left and right, fighting for your fuckin life out here 😫

that’s when you felt a strong arm yank you up

you couldn’t even see your savior but they had the strongest grip with their arm about your waist

“hang in there,” the guy holding you laughed, loudly

and when you were jostled more by the ride, you were able to turn enough to see whose lap you sat upon

“Thanks for your help,” you call to him over the music and wind

“Don’t mention it!!”

When the ride ended, you promptly jumped up for the guy’s lap. But that seemed to be too quick as that last minute, or so it felt like, of being spun around had left you without your land legs.

And as your knees gave out on you, the strong arm from before wrapped back around your waist. “Oi, why don’t you let me walk you to a seat or something. I’m afraid you might fall on someone else,” he chuckled. Helping you stand up, he placed a hand on your shoulder, turning back to the boys he was with. “I’ll catch up with you guys later, okay?”

He didn’t even wait for a response before leading you off the ride. He kept that warm hand on your shoulder, making sure you were steady. The guy lead you to one of the food stalls, sitting you at the bench near by.

“I’ll be right back!”

You watched him curiously as he ran up to the vendor and spoke with them briefly. Exchanging some yen, he jogged back over with two water bottles. He held one out, plopping down on the bench besides you.

“O-Oh! Thanks, you didn’t have to do that,” you note aa you open the bottle.

“Don’t worry ‘bout it. Name’s Iwaizumi, by the way.”

You look over at him, taking a sip from the bottle. Was he….interested? No..he was just…being nice? Maybe…

“_______,” you respond. “Thanks for grabbing me in the ride and after.”

“No problem. Didn’t look like you came with anyone really. Figured you might want a little company?”

“Ah, you didn’t have to. I came with my friends but, uh, they brought their boyfriends and ran off. Can’t exactly do that, so might as well enjoy the park by myself.”

“Did you want to?”

You were taken back by his question, tilting your head. “Want to what?”

“Roam around the park with your boyfriend?”

“Oh! Oh, no. I don’t have one,” you laugh. Damn dude, way to make me spell it out that I’m the only single one in my friend group, you thought. Taking another sip from your water, you looked to the ground almost embarrassed.

“Want one? Even if just for the night?”

Spiittt!!!

You choked, slapping your chest trying to regain yourself. Iwaizumi hit your back, frowning at what he’d caused. He was quick to follow up with “It was only a suggestion! I’m so sorry!”

“No- No. I’ll,” you stop, coughing a bit more. “I’ll take your offer. You just caught me off guard.”

Makki

before the ride began a group of guys sat down near you, all giggling and whatnot

the boy closest to you had an ashy pink hair color. Or was it a dirty strawberry blonde? Either way, he waved and smiled

you politely waved back and returned to your tightened grip on the safety bars

as the ride began, you focused on staying put but that wasn’t the easiest task you learned

suddenly all the videos of people getting yeeted and tossed about like ragdolls made sense, as you found yourself tossed to your left, closer to the guy

he didn’t even notice as he was struggling to stay in place, getting jostled by his friends, thrown closer to you

next you knew, the guy was in your lap, arms about your shoulders

he practically shrieked, jumping off you, yelling out “I’M SO SORRY!!”

your poor soul didn’t even get a second to recover as you’re thrown out your seat, towards the center of the ride

As you are slowly being yeeted to the center of the ride, you felt a hand pull on your wrist, tugging at you. You reached out for a second, luckily catching a break from the jostling. The hands pulled you up and into the seat, holding your forearms still.

“There you go!”

You whip your hair out your eyes, flicking your head to the side, being met with the guy. You sat besides him and the machine changed to spinning instead of jolting.

“Th-Thank you so much,” you pant. God, this ride was well, a ride, to say the least.

“Don’t mention it. You can hold onto me any time. Just call out for me,” he joked. You found yourself giggling at the dumb joke. He was pretty cute actually, and funny to boot.

“How will I know what to call?”

“It’s Hanamaki! Just call me Makki.”

“Makki,” you repeat. Your short lived peace is replaced by the aggressive jolting again and your eyes go wide. Your attention is thrown to staying seated before you can tell him your name.

And next you know Makki is thrown into the center of the ride, letting go of your sweater sleeves. You knew that only could mean one thing.

You were next.

No doubt about it, you absolutely were. You fell into the center, on your knees, struggling to stand up or get to a seat. Frick, you could just barely make out that Makki was still near by, stuck in the center as well. You know you just met him, but you figured calling out for his assistance again wouldn’t hurt anything.

“Makki!” you call out. The guy had just barely managed to roll over to you, reaching out to you. He struggled a bit but stood up, grabbing your hand.

“You called?~ Lets get you back to a seat, shall we?”

Makki, the stranger you just met, was a bit wild you learned quickly. As he held onto you, fighting to keep you both on your feet, he flung himself towards a seat when the machine jolted again. Somehow, someway, after a few more attempts, you two made it. You landed besides him, arms wrapped about his neck as an anchor of sorts. Meanwhile, Makki gripped the safety bars.

“Sorry, don’t think I caught you name, by the way.”

“______.”

Mattsun

you went in too confident about your ability to stay seated

you let out a shriek as soon as you got thrown into the air, out of your seat

you found yourself forward rolling across the ride as if it was tumbling class, and at some point you managed to stand up and you’d never been more scared and proud at the same time before

the mc made a comment about how he’d find you a boyfriend and you looked to the PA box confused before getting thrown yet again

and you fell right into a big guy’s lap, knees on either side of his hips, his hands on your waist

“be sure to send me a wedding invitation for getting you two together,” the mc laughed

you practically growled, hands gripping the railing before looking down

“hey pretty girl,” he cooed. “Glad you found your seat!”

his grin was so lazy but hot at the same time

and his eyes while dark had a caring, intense look

the brunette besides him began making a barfing noise, hollering “I want off this thing, and his ass is flirting! Unbelievable!”

Looking to his friend, you let out a laugh. You looked back to the guy whose lap you were on though, smiling. “My name is ______! What’s yours?”

“Matsukawa!”

Your smile grew and you began to shift to get off his lap and sit besides him instead. Of course, the asshat controlling the machine jolted the machine, throwing you into Matsukawa further. The pair of you went up, but his arms wrapped about you tightly, trying to keep you from getting yeeted. Your grip on the safety bars only tightened then, fear in your eyes.

The jostling and jolting had you bouncing on the guy’s lap the entire ride, and you let go of the safety bar with one hand to hide your face. Even in the crisp night air, you felt your body burning from embarrassment.

“I-I’m so sorry about this,” you whimper.

“Nothing to apologize about! You get a secure spot and I get a cutie on my lap,” he chuckled.

“GET ME OFF THIS THING!!!” Matsukawa’s friend shrieked. You both turned your attention over, watching him shove his finger to back of his throat at you two. “Get a room!”

“I was hoping to get her dinner first, Oikawa!”

You laid your head on his shoulder, hiding from him and the world. God. He was too smooth for his own good, you thought.

“So, what’re you feeling? Or did you eat already?” Matsukawa asked.

Oh god. He was serious. “A-Anything is fine!” You waved off the question, just trying to make it through the ride at this point. God. Seven or so minutes went on for what felt like an eternity.

“Just try to hang in there, and I’ll be sure you get a nice meal, then!”

And you barely managed to hold onto Matsukawa for the rest of the ride. You were nearly thrown onto the floor or his friends a few times too many. But every single time, Matsukawa’s strong arms and hands reeled you back in. His feet were planted flat, legs manspreading as a tactic to keep in place - which fyi, oddly worked.

When the ride finally came to a stop, you slowly released Matsukawa. He helped you stand up slowly, fixing your hair for you. He patted himself off before standing up with a lazy grin.

“So, about dinner.”

He held out his hand to you and waited patiently. His friends didn’t even bother waiting for him. The one that was being dramatic did however make another barf noise, booing Matsukawa. Something about ‘not fair he gets a date on boys night.’ Still you blocked it out, taking Matsukawa’s hand.

“That…sounds nice after that Hell of a ride.”

also becomes v flirty, not just with strangers, but with the boys as well.

is then in a heap already and they’ve only been out half an hour

also hates vodka with a passion

so the boys buy him vodka shots and tell him they’re something completely different. just cause they luv him

loves a good cocktail every now and then

but sticks to beer and rum cause it’s iwa

but he’s probably gone after 4 bottles of beer

he doesn’t really do embarrassing or dumb stuff

just gets really giggly and laughs really hard at everything

also gets v sappy but holds it in

also gets v aggressive, like more than usual

has fought issei in the middle of the street on makki’s 21st birthday when they were both pissed

but also trips and stumbles so much

sings really loud as well, like you can hear him over the music and he loses his voice the next morning

the boys always say it’s not a night out if iwa doesn’t spill at least one drink

suffers from v bad hangovers, that’s why he hates drinking cause all he can think about is how he’s gonna feel the next day

A/N: I had a bake day and my biggest flex was 2.5/3 successful batches of macarons and then this idea was born 😎

Iwaizumi

We’re gonna say this isn’t the first time you’ve ever made these

You guys just wanted to do something fun together on a weekend you both had free and you were in the mood for a project

You make him get the kitchenaide out of the cabinet cuz its heavy af and he’s Muscle Man 

He isn’t big on baking and prefers cooking for you but when you hit him with the 🥺 he agreed to help

Helps you measure everything out and puts all the ingredients away as you go

Calls you a dumbass when you dump the powdered sugar into the food processor too fast and it poofs in ur face

Offers to separate the eggs while you sift the dry ingredients 

Wraps his arms around you from behind while you hyper focus on whipping the egg whites and adding the ingredients at the right time

You let him pick the color and he asks if you could do the Seijoh colors

Yes ofc babe ily 😌

Once all the batter is ready for piping you split it into 2 bags and see who can make theirs more uniform

You make him a special set shaped like a jersey but hide it for later

Cuddles you for the hour that they have to dry before baking

You kick him out of the kitchen for the decorating and filling process

Smiles really big when you hand him the little #4 jersey you decorated with white buttercream and icing

He takes a pic and sends it to Oikawa to flex his amazing s/o’s baking skills

He doesn’t want to eat it cuz its so cute and perfect (like you)

Lots of kisses earned for that one

Overall a success 1000/10 would bake w Iwa again 😌✨✨✨

Pronounces it with an obnoxious french accent every. single. time.

I h8 him but he’s right

He definitely has tried a lot of different of flavors (courtesy of the fanclub)

Chose vanilla for some reason idk

Helps collect the ingredients but other than that just watches you do your thing

Chooses the playlist and sings along with you 

You ask him if he wants a specific color or shape and he jokingly says volleyballs

Gets excited when you say “that’s so cute! I can do that!!” 

You let him help with the buttercream cuz it’s pretty hard to mess up 

He swipes some on your nose to be cute

You return the favor and he makes the pikachu meme face

Stands behind you and holds his phone so you can see a picture of a volleyball 

Purely coincidence that he’s in the pic too

He thinks its cute when your tongue sticks out while you focus on drawing the lines right with an edible marker

Makes sure you take pictures of them before he eats one

Ok this man is PREPARED

He makes sure you have all right ingredients and bowls and such

Checks the recipe and buys enough for a second batch in case the first goes wrong somehow 

Probably watched a youtube video on making macarons the night before so he would know what to do and prints out a template for the cookie size

You offer to make them coffee and chocolate flavored cuz that’s his favorite and he melts a little

Breaks out the scale and helps you measure out everything in grams like a professional

Sifts the dry ingredients for you 

Calms you down when you get overwhelmed and worried you did something wrong or missed a step

“Keiji, do you think these peaks are soft enough??” “Yeah that looks like it did in the video. We add the sugar now right?” 

2 relatively anxious people in a kitchen 

His piping skills are better than yours sorry bud

blame the pretty setter hands 🙌

Puts on a movie for the waiting period and preheats the oven for you when it’s time

Smiles at your expression when they come out perfect

Kuroo

Baking is basically edible chemistry so when u ask him to help he jumps at the chance

You ask him chemistry questions related to meringue and the macaronage process

“Hey Tetsu, why do egg whites turn into foam when whipped a lot?”

“Why do eggs foam better when lukewarm?”

“Why do macarons taste better the next day or so?”

If he doesn’t know the answer he’ll google it and get back to you 

He reads the whole scientific explanation to you and if you get confused or he uses a word you don’t know he explains it 

Very educational process 

Cracks baking jokes 

You choose to do lemon macarons cuz why not (lemon meringues r sooo good just saying) 

He mostly reads the recipe to you a loud and hands you things

as mentioned before, they dont really get to hang out a lot w you outside of practice 

youre either too busy taking care of your schoolwork, catsitting for the aizawa’s, or having you time since youve been busy w the boys all week

but there are times where you do have available time to go hang out with the boys

and they know about your schedule so they try to make memories either during practice or after practice

fortunately, kyo lives at the same street as the aizawa’s so he walks you to their house when you have a job 

but sometimes when you are just walking home, you both stop by the convenience store first and find some cat food cans and dog food cans and water 

it was a complete accident when you both found each other standing at the same aisle, holding the same things, with the same intentions, for the same animals

the alleyway where you first met is basically your second home bc thats where your babies live

since you cant exactly take in 5 dogs and 6 cats in your house, you and kyo are taking care of them in that alleyway where you feed them and build them a little shelter with blankets and stuff

this will be explained more in the next manager!seijoh part

after practice, particularly after a really productive one, the guys like to go to the ramen shop near the school to treat themselves after their hardwork

by now, the old lady who owns the shop knows their order by heart and has it ready when you all enter

yall get settled in but you go over to yahaba and snap his wooden chopsticks for him bc he never snaps them properly and ends up breaking them

meanwhile,,

you gather as much napkins as you can and place them beside kindaichi bc he makes such a mess while he eats and you have stand-by wipes for him

you make a special request to add tofu into iwa’s ramen bc the mans loves tofu so much and he still doesnt understand how the lady seems to know this despite him never telling her

your seat is usually next to mattsun bc he doesnt eat all the side dishes up like the others and you can eat some of it too

kyo sit across you and demands you eat at least 2 bowls bc you never seem to eat enough and he gets secretly concerned so he aggressively cares for you

‘kyo-san,,,, im full though’

he ‘glares’ at you

‘what you mean youre full. you didnt even finish the bowl. eat the rest and have another or youre not leaving this table’

fun fact, oikawa actually has two pairs of glasses and he gave you one in case he forgets to wear his main one and leaves it at home

so he gets to school and he just realizes he forgot his glasses and his contacts were still being shipped so he freaks out and texts you about it

but you always have the case safely tucked in your bag so you wander up to the third year floor and knock on his class door

iwa, who is in the same class as him, glares at the students who stare at you and nudges oikawa who was looking out the window

‘oi, your glasses’

his head snapped to the side and sees your smiling face and the familiar brown box being held out to him

his face scrunches and he launches up his seat and takes you in his arms

‘Y/N-CHAN IS SO RESPONSIBLE! SO NICE! OIKAWA-SENPAI REALLY APPRECIATES YOU!’

‘oikawa-san, please let me go’

you mumbled, embarrassed at his behavior in front of the whole class

once iwa has you safely on the ground, you excuse yourself and go back to class

the class still stared at the door you passed through and iwa had to bark at them to go back to their business

youre like the seijoh and younger version of goddess kiyoko

before kyo got back to the team, you usually walked home by yourself but makki actually accompanies you when he doesnt have errands to run

‘makki-san, i heard theres a sale going on for puffs’

you would mention as you walked and you would look to see his eyes light up and walk faster towards the bakery

‘cmon, y/n-chan. makki-senpai is treating you today!’

he turns into a child, a contrast to his chaotic energy in school, and he runs over to the glass where indeed, there was a sale going on for his puffs

while he was staring at what flavor he wanted, youd go to the cashier and give her your card

‘when that guy with the light brown hair with the blue and white jacket comes up to pay for his cream puffs, charge it to my card, please. whatever you do, dont take his and use mine immediately, please. ill come by later and pick it back up’

the old cashier lady felt true hope and happiness for humanity at your actions and it increased when she saw the shocked look on the boy’s face when she immediately swiped the card when he finished ordering

‘what? i havent paid-’

‘the young lady that came with you already did, young lad. shes a keeper’

he turned red

‘ahaha, no, shes our team manager’

once he finished paying and went outside, he took out his phone and dialed your number to call you

you smiled from the aisle in the convenience store down the street bc you were expecting him to call you

he shut his eyes at how cute you sounded

he whined but you bit your lip, leaving the store after purchasing a drink with the remaining cash you had

he went down to your class and noticed you missing and he asks kindaichi and kunimi and they said that you said you wanted to get fresh air

since he pays attention to you, he knows you like to go to the roof to breathe

he ventures up the stairs and when he opens the door, he notices you just staring up at the sky, sitting down on the floor

‘being in an empty place like the roof doesnt compare to how lonely Pluto must feel to be outcasted in the solar system’

your comment catches him off-guard but he regains composure and makes his way to you before sitting down next to your form

‘hmm, oikawa-senpai talked to me about space one time. he mentioned the vast possibilities that stays hidden in the shadows’

you and him turn your head at the same time and share a gentle smile

‘but its up to us to find those secrets and abilities’

he nodded and went back to look at the clouds that looked like they were slowly moving but it was really the earth turning

a chuckle escaped you and you tightened your arms around your knees, following his gaze to the blob of white that was painted on to the blue canvas

sometimes, the four third years arrive at the same time but sometimes, only iwa comes

you noticed him put his bag down and help you with the nets before pushing the cart to finish the task for the morning

‘can you actually help me with my workout?’

you nodded and you knew his routine by now

as he got in position for a push up, you gently sat down on his back so he could start pushing up

so here he was, standing in your kitchen, as you were cooking with him

you were chopping up vegetables and he was waiting for the eggs to boil so he was just stirring it slightly

‘wata-san, can you give me a bowl from the cabinet above you?’

he nodded and gave it to you so you could place the chopped carrots and onions in it

once the timer was done, he scooped out the eggs and placed them into an ice bowl so he could peel them later

you knew his favorite food was boiled eggs so you wanted to boil some so he could snack on them

‘can you peel one and see if theyre perfectly cooked, wata-san?’

his fingers skillfully rolled the egg on the table before peeling it effortlessly

he hummed as he chewed on the food

you asked and he turned to you, cheeks still full but he raised a thumbs up

you grinned and went back to chopping the scallions

so basically, we all know his famous haircut, right

but what if that was actually just a style hes had since he was young but he has naturally down hair?

the stuff he puts in it like this brand of gel is just so tough and sturdy that two washes of hair is the only thing that can get rid of it

even during practice when hes sweating the atlantic ocean, it somehow stays up

he puts gel on it and stuff after he showers to make it stick up and BOOM turnip head

but one morning, he,,,, wasnt turnip head

the boy woke up late and he didnt have time to perfect the sticking up so he went to school with his hair down and everything

you were already there since morning practice has started and kunimi told you that kindaichi texted him he would be late so you were just patiently waiting by the door for your classmate

but some guy just walked in

your eyes widened and you pulled their arm

then the words died in your mouth

you stuttered and he placed his hands on his face to hide away

his shout attracted the others and then silence before the laughing and howling started

he nodded immediately and hurried away towards the back where the sun was just starting to rise

his eyes glistened with tears of gratitude but you waved it away and started attempting to fix his hair

tbh you dont know why he did this hairstyle because his hair was really soft and nice and he still looked attractive either way

lets face it, he probably doesnt sleep at all at night and he suffers from insomnia

and when he cant sleep, he bothers his friends

but he doesnt bother you though

which makes you sad bc you thought you made it clear that he could come to you if he was in need of something

you only found out after kindaichi accidentally blurted out during morning practice of how tired he is bc kunimi wouldnt stop talking to him at 2 in the morning

you gently said and kunimi scrunched his nose at how sad you sounded

mattsun heard you as he pushed the carts and watched as you just swayed and twirled around and he found himself smiling at you

you noticed him stop in front of you and he bowed down, holding out a hand

‘what? whats going on?’

he softly held your hand and pulled you to him

‘you were dancing and i wanted to join you’

you nodded and looked up at him, eyes half-lidded

it was a random song you heard from the radio earlier but you complied while he moved with your feet on his

either way, at 8:34 PM, you and mattsun danced under the gym lights with no witness except you and him

you and the team share individual memories that are more special than the ones with the others bc its where you could actually be upfront with each other

its just a shame that there are 4 third years in the team that would eventually graduate and go their own separate ways after high school, leaving behind their underclassmen

they could just hope that those memories and special moments would remind them of who you were and how special you were to them since at the prime of their youth, you were their first true love

Where to start with Tooru.

It all started out as a joke; when we first met, I'd laugh about how I could never fall for a guy who loved the sight of his own reflection more than that of his past lovers. I have terrible handwriting whereas Tooru's is very neat and cursive so he always pokes fun at me for it, saying it's usually the guy who has terrible calligraphy

I wasn't fan of the beach until I met Tooru, he takes my mind off the things I don't like about it and now we go there almost every holiday we get

hey elle! i saw your answers for the questions i sent—i love coffee and cookie dough ice cream too! i’ve found that i like a lot of coffee-flavored stuff like ice cream, cake, and candy lol. i also really love cookies and cream! i’d say that’d be my favorite with coffee and cookie dough being VERY CLOSE seconds

anyways today i’ve got some headcanons for a past written on the margins question! first it was a karaoke party with the seijoh 4, and now it’s a road trip! aka you and iwaizumi are the only ones with any braincells in this godforsaken car (they make you handle the gps stuff since you’re the best with it). i can imagine each of them rotating and driving for a set number of hours or at least until they reach a rest stop, especially on long trips. whoever’s sitting shotgun (they rotate between this seat too) has control over the radio and aux cord and oikawa jokes that it’s the best part of going on road trips (but is he really joking though...)

makki and mattsun pretend to groan when you sit shotgun, but in actuality they don’t mind and will probably sing along to some of the songs you play (if there’s a rap part in the song currently playing everyone makes mattsun rap along i feel like his voice just fits it) while oikawa would be like UGH FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SOME MUSIC TASTE just to get a rise out of the other boys (but he really does think those kpop songs you blast lowkey slap he’s been listening to some of them while he works out or goes on his morning runs). iwa generally doesn’t have much of a preference but i can see him being partial to more upbeat songs to keep him or whoever’s driving awake, but even during slow songs the rest of you guys sing loud enough and chaotic enough to prevent anyone from getting any shut-eye (oikawa, makki, and mattsun dramatically act out a whole SAGA)

when you guys reach any rest stop makki is the first one out of the car and he makes a beeline towards the bathroom because he drank a lot of water during you guys’ impromptu karaoke session (gotta keep those vocal chords taken care of!). oikawa and mattsun are usually the ones in charge of getting snacks, they always end up getting a lot but they make sure to get everyone’s favorites! the amount of snacks they buy seems overkill but they’re athletic boys with voracious appetites and getting this many snacks ensures that the car is never short on food. if this is during or post-timeskip iwa is probably a little more strict on the snacks everyone eats (especially with regards to oikawa, being a professional athlete and all) but eventually decides to let up a bit—it’s not everyday he gets to go on a trip with his close friends, plus all those calories are gonna get burned right away once you guys reach your destination and go from place to place.

god help anyone who actually falls asleep in the car because oikawa and makki are taking photos of whoever’s sleeping with their phones AND with the polarioid camera you brought. despite this, though, everyone makes a conscious effort to be quieter when someone’s napping, and the volume of the radio is turned a bit lower. one of your favorite pictures on your phone is a selfie you took of everyone while you were sitting in the passenger seat: mattsun was driving at the time and though he wasn’t looking at the camera, a smile is on his face as he makes a peace sign with one hand; oikawa, iwa, and makki are sleeping in the back seats with oikawa and makki leaning on iwa’s shoulders (he lost a few rounds of rock paper scissors and had to sit in the middle). this also extends to when you’re asleep in the car as well—oikawa jokingly made his phone background a selfie of you leaning on his shoulder while napping (featuring a blurry iwaizumi at the side) but he actually finds it quite cute and doesn’t want to change it to his usually background quite yet.

it’s evening when you guys finally reach your hotel and everyone’s a bit tired from being cooped up in the car all day but surprisingly enough no one’s really sleepy because everyone at one point had the opportunity to nap on the way there. if you’re dating one of the boys the others DEFINITELY make you two take one room while the other three take the room adjacent to it. after everyone’s gotten ready for bed you’re all gathered in one of the hotel rolls just vibing on your phones and you and oikawa decide it’s the perfect time to bring out The Sheet Masks™️ that you kept in the cooler in the car during the trip so they’d remain cold. many more goofy photos of everyone with the masks on their faces are taken.

by this point it’s late at night and eventually you guys fall into having some nice, genuine heart-to-heart conversations. if this is during or post-timeskip everyone’s sharing what they’ve been up to ever since graduation or ever since you guys last saw/talked to each other. it’s just such a nice and comforting environment to be in because everyone’s a little tired from the day’s events and so it’s not as loud and boisterous, but at the same time this tiredness and it being nighttime means everyone’s filters are a little looser than usual and you could ask for advice on just about anything and everyone else would chime in with both lighthearted and actual suggestions. the boys are just SOFTER during this time like you could bring up how you’ve been getting back into something you did during high school (like playing piano or guitar or something) and they’d want you to show them videos or pictures of what you’ve been up to! maybe one boy brings up something that’s been worrying them for a while and you and the others are giving him words of encouragement while also cracking jokes. it’s just really chill and nice and everyone likes these late night talks because they bring you all a little closer.

everyone ends up sleeping in the same hotel room. you wake up sandwiched between oikawa and mattsun (oikawa’s got an arm thrown around you and mattsun’s long leggies are literally on top of yours and you wonder how you managed to sleep soundly last night) and iwa and makki are on the pull out sofa bed and you’re like Hey Guys. What The Heck (makki takes this opportunity to snap a photo of the three of you wrapped up in the bedcovers) and when you guys go to get breakfast at the hotel buffet it’s strangely quiet because almost everyone is still sleepy lol.

after getting some food in your system and getting ready for the day you’re all back to your usual energetic selves! you snap a mirror selfie of everyone gathered around the sink in one of the hotel rooms because oikawa was finishing getting ready (he takes the longest i just know it) and the other boys were just hanging around him talking about what’s planned for the day. the schedule you guys have isn’t super specific but there’s a few choice locations that you guys looked into in advance and try to visit no matter what! a day out with them is definitely filled with photos. you’ve got a lot of them in which they’re trying to recreate some funny pose in a picture oikawa saw online (like the one of nct in the ask i sent you earlier!!) and they either turn out really great or really horrible (funny) because you have a knack for taking photos where everything looks normal but someone’s face would be really blurry. but they would also try and take some really nice photos too—they’ll all even help you if you want to take some solo shots! oikawa and makki know the best angles for aesthetically pleasing photos, mattsun has a knack for taking panorama photos that look perfect, and iwaizumi’s really good at taking those types of photos of you guys jumping in the air without them looking weird. you’ve basically got four tall hypemen it’s great!!

overall i think it’d be so fun to go on a trip with them because it’s the perfect balance!! they’re chaotic clowns but they also won’t hesitate to give you a piggyback ride if your feet really hurt or if your shoes are giving you blisters (oikawa will try and make iwa give him a piggyback ride too, though). you guys end up getting a lot closer and having a TON of photos and inside jokes at the end of the trip, and though you’re all reluctant to go back, you also all know that this is only the beginning of a lot more outings together! if you take little clips of various events throughout the trip and compile them all together into a little vlog they’ll all probably watch it together through zoom or discord screenshare or something loool

everyone who isn't driving makes it their mission to annoy the one who is; whether it's through repeatedly poking their cheek, asking how long of the drive they have left, etc. the person who can last the longest in driver's seat would probably be iwaizumi, all his years playing volleyball with them as prepared him for this moment — but also looked up breathing exercises to avoid getting angry.

the best person to have riding shotgun would most be mattsun, especially when it's really late or super early ; keeps the conversation going and doesn't fall asleep, even when everyone in the backseat is. he shotguns energy drinks every hour or so.

i love the idea of oikawa, makki, and mattsun acting out a whole saga in the backseat omg !! in my head it's a song like taylor swift's love story wherein makki is the love interest, oikawa is taylor, and mattsun is like the dad who doesn't want them together. they really go all out on the acting — oikawa might have let out a couple of tears — and even iwa cracks a lil smile from the driver's seat.

awe timeskip!iwa watching out for everyone's diets ;-; but i do agree that he's gonna let up a bit considering that everyone doesn't see each other all the time. but i feel like he gives everyone the look™ every now and then despite this.

It's so funny with Mattsun and Makki! There's a history for them, back when the Haikyuu fandom was waking up again because season four had started. There was one writer who loved Mattsun so much when nobody else did and her SMAU for him got so popular that everyone started writing for him. lollll. I'm pretty sure that's how the Seijoh Four started instead of just Oikawa and Iwaizumi. Someone just writing for an underrated character they love and then they became popular. I wish I could do that but I don't think that'll happen lol.

But oh no. I think we're hyping each other up with these underrated characters and just adding to our lists. LOL. I feel like I haven't chatted with another writer who likes underrated characters in a long time so it's all coming out again. And your pre-timeskip self-ship with Takeda!!!! That's so funny how it might be competition for your Akaashi one.

(Also, fun fact, Tsukishima was my first fav but I didn't like admitting it back then. LOL. But I knew he would be my favourite right when he was introduced because I knew exactly what type of character he was going to be. 😂)

omg that is HILARIOUS I can't believe that but it makes so much sense hahaha!!!! I feel like sometimes the smallest characters or randomest ships have some of the best most dedicated writers. don't know if you or anybody reading is into IT but when that was my big fandom I got hardcore into stozier & loved reading stozier fics bc like. it was so clear that people were so into the dynamic and would like, fight tooth and nail. die for those boys. sometimes their fics were like so much more epically long and thought out than the ones for the main ships and I was just like. im in heaven. I love this characterization. I haven't really read that much ab mattsun & Makki but I sorta feel the same about them like I love the way people come up with great intense emotions & characterizations for them. tbh I used to think seijoh 4 were overhyped in general but when I started reading some & just seeing art I was like. oh these dynamics! oh the intrigue! hahaha

and honestly that is like a dream. to be the one blog consistently talking about an underrated character and then they blow up and youre like im the [insert character here] blog. the only [character] stan. etc. hilarious and wonderful turn of events. and SAME im always like yeah im gonna write a fic for some guy idk which one, but ppl are gonna love it so much and that's gonna be me B) hahahhahaha

yeah omg we need to do some sort of fun challenge or collab where we and whoever else wants to write fics or just share recs for underrated guys. that would actually be such a fun idea like, picking a new guy every week or month or something and just doing a "book club" sort of thing hahaha :) I did a fanfic book club with a friend before and it was always really fun :) <3 also yeah. about Takeda. Oikawa Tooru, cats: It was cute, watching you unhook your hand from his to run towards any cat you saw on the street, crouching down to their level and talking to them as if they could understand you. When he said this one, you laughed and said they did understand but the look in your eyes made it clear you were serious. Getting to see a soft side of yours, unfiltered, shining and radiating so much love was a scene he loved dearly. Your bond with cats went so far back to your childhood and he loved listening to your stories.

But when you appeared in front of his door one day, on the same day as your little trip, with a box in your hand, he knew what was about to come.

“So Tooru.” “No.”

“As you know I’ll be away for a few days and cannot take my baby with me.” “Why…”

“I’ve written down a little manual on her likes and dislikes, her preference of food and how to be pet.” “Can’t you ask Iwa-Chan instead?”

“No because Iwa-Chan does not live in Argentina.” So that’s how he found himself with your cat one morning, leaving the lid open, he went back to bed.

That night when he returned from another practice ended long gone, him staying overnight, he was met with a furious glare. “What are you looking at? I left an extra plate of food for you.” Was all he said.

By the time you returned, it was too early for them to be up. Opening the door quietly, putting your bag down and tiptoeing towards the bedroom, you were met with Tooru sleeping with your cat leaning against his leg. Pulling her to herself and lying besides him with as little noise as you, you joined them.

“Maybe she wasn’t such an awful guest.” Was what he first mumbled to you. As you chuckled, she got up to adjust her sleeping position, hitting him in the face with her tail in the process. “She has a name you know.” “I refuse to say it, especially after getting hit that harshly.” “It’s not that bad.”

He scrunched up his nose once “I’m sorry, Czarina Natalya.” As you laughed again, scratching her head with one hand and stroking Tooru’s hair with the other, he asked: “I still don’t get why you brought her to me. It’s not like I’m that good at taking care of plants or pets.”

“It was so she would take care of you while I was away. Nati is pretty good at that though she likes to act cold hearted.” “I guess that’s a story for another time.” “In the morning. Let’s get an hour of sleep before she starts meowing aggressively for breakfast.”

Iwaizumi Hajime, dogs: It was an ordinary day at the beach. Enjoying the sun and the waves, letting the sounds calm you and having a mini picnic of sorts. Seeing stray dogs by the beach wasn’t extraordinary, it wasn’t a common thing either, but when the white pup approached you shyly, you couldn’t help but pat the spot next to you on the sand. Running to you and laying down under the comforting shadow of the umbrella, she accompanied the two of you for the rest of the day. Petting her on the occasion, offering half of your sandwich and giving water, it was a given she would follow you home. And you didn’t have it in you to reject her.

Iwaizumi wasn’t so keen on the idea at first. The dog did seem well, she didn’t have a collar but she appeared healthy to the eyes. But it was the eyes that captured your heart and that’s how you found yourself listing so many advantages of having a dog to live with. And it was your eyes that Hajime couldn’t argue with so that was how you ended up with a pup. She would wake the two of you up with gently bumps of her nose, accompany Hajime on his regular runs, walk with the two of you to the market and keep an ear out at night to make sure no harm came near you. “Hey Princess!” You would say and she’d lay on the floor, paws raised and belly in the open, a sign of her trust too.

When you woke up that day, it was a bright grey. Clouds clogging up the sunlight, you knew what was about to come. Going through your morning routine and getting urgent things done, you decided to allow yourself a breathe. On your way to the kitchen, you heard the first rumble. Hurrying now and taking out your relaxing tea mix, you went to grab your blanket as the water boiled. Pouring it to your french press and adding the tea, you dropped yourself to the couch. When Cotton saw you, she walked away. “Weird.” You said to yourself. When she appeared minutes later, accompanied by footsteps, you realized why she was gone for a short period of time. As Hajime sat down by your side, pulling you into his arms, Cotton joined in as well, placing her head to your lap and giving you looks of concern once in a while. That’s how you found yourself waking up in the middle of the night, the thunderstorm long gone, you in the arms of Hajime, your beloved girl sleeping with content in your lap.

Matsukawa Issei, fish: When he decided to try all the ridiculous games at the fair one night, insisting on winning a prize, you were too busy laughing to sense the seriousness in his words. But as the night came to an end, your stomach hurting from the Cotton candy you had, Issei walked towards you, the smug expression you’ve come to know so well, painted in his face. Hands behind his back, you started laughing again. No absurd color could be seen so he didn’t go and win any huge stuffed toy. But when he raised his arms with a “Ta da!”, it was a small plastic bag filled with water, and a little orange fish swimming inside. There was no way this was real.

The fish you thought was the side effect of too much cotton candy turned out to be as real as the two of you. Grabbing a big glass and filling it water, you left the fish in the kitchen that night. Waking up to meet with it again was a shock to say the least. So doing what any responsible adult and eager kid would do, you took a photo of it and went out to get a proper tank, decorative rocks and fish food. By the time Issei got up to prepare some coffee, you were still in the kitchen, head rested on your hands, watching the fish and tapping against the tank once in a while. You didn’t see the way he took a sip of his coffee as he watched the two of you.

This became a habit long after, on stressful days, one of you would take away the source of the stress away and guide the other back where Carrotcake was, watching the light break and divide into infinite colors, getting lost in the waves of its tail as it swimming in serenity. The simple life of your fish was a break from anything and everything, especially when you needed escape. Getting too attached to a fish seemed hilarious to you at first but few months in and you found yourselves researching, then going out to get him a friend and a larger tank, now with a little castle they can play in.

As you sprinkled fish food into the water one morning, Issei placed down his mug to the side and wrapped his arms around. “Who knew we would rediscover us in them?” “Next time we go to the fair, I’ll be the one to try and win a prize.” “So the family keeps growing, huh?” “Why not? They deserve a little happiness and love like ours in their lives too.”

Hanamaki Takahiro, birds: It was a regular café try-out. As Makki was trying his profiterole pyramid, your attention was pulled to your phone when the notification bing! Reached your ears. Seeing a video from your friend, who was visiting her family in her home country, you opened the app eagerly. The joyous chirping of the budgerigar filling the café in an instant, you immediately turned your volume down. Seeing the bird sing and move his head as if he was dancing, you couldn’t help but be glued to the screen. Feeling the burning gaze of Makki in you, you showed him the video and watched him as fascination took over his features. After that, it was merely a count down. When he saw an adoption post for one, he sent it to you in an instant and in a week, you were the proud parents of a budgerigar. Spending the day setting the cage in a good place and checking the water and food, you went to bed content.

Waking up with an unfamiliar and loud noise the next morning, alarmed at first, only to remember the bird afterwards, was an experience to say the least. The first time you let Boncuk out of the cage, to fly inside the living room, you had no idea what he would do to your books. Experience being the best teacher, you found yourself running to get a blanket and using it to cover the book cases. Despite the energetic nature of the bird tiring you once in a while, it was fun to have a singer in the house. He would learn where to fly and what not to chew at in time, sit on your arm or on Makki’s head in the evenings, often pooping on Makki’s head and making you laugh the loudest in your life. When he first opened his beak and made a song far from a typical tweet but more like an actual word, you yelled Makki’s name, pulled him by the arm and asked the bird to do it again. And do he did, he could say only one word but it was more than enough. With the same pride parents have when their baby first starts to walk, you took videos all day, called all your friends and made them hear this wonder on call.

Being the two of you, it didn’t took you long to teach the bird a few more words. The best one was when you called Oikawa on his birthday and Makki called out “Okay, Boncuk! Now what do we say?” “Shittykawa!”

As the two of you started laughing, Oikawa hung up, complaining as he did. Yet all the mindless fun aside, your favorite thing was to watch the two of you duet together some nights, the bird singing along to Makki as he would serenade you or dance with you.

Boncuk means “bead” in Turkish, it’s a common name for budgerigars

This is such a cute idea! I’m addicted to making weirdly specific Spotify playlists so this is perfect. I have an ✨eclectic✨ music taste but my favorites are usually bedroom pop (mxmtoon, chloe moriondo, khai dreams, etc), romantic classical (think Debussy and Revel), and indie (although I like some Megan Thee Stallion, AC/DC, Nirvana, etc when I’m hyping myself up). As far as my personality goes, I’m pretty insightful and like to support people whenever I can, even if I don’t know them well. Pushing open the doors to the main gym on campus, your ears were met with the sound of balls being hit and sneakers squeaking against the wood flooring. There were multiple groups all across the gym space, all doing different sorts of drills from blocking to conditioning to passing. You hadn’t really paid much attention to volleyball over the years of being at Seijoh, you’d known a little bit when you would occasionally talk to the players in your year, but you didn’t realize how popular it had become to play since your focus had previously been on your ex playing basketball.

The sudden arrival of a group of girls caught the attention of many of the male players, some passes being dropped or a few stumbling as their feet tripped. You walked with a purpose across the gym floor, separating yourself from your club and probably disrupting a few drills but not too concerned since they had stopped anyways to blatantly stare at you. It wasn’t too surprising, you didn’t exactly practice for your dance club in the typical school PE uniform.

You consciously tugged down on the spandex shorts you were wearing to cover a little bit more skin as you approached the two adult men. They were talking to one another as they observed the drills happening in front of them, arms crossed and looking as intimidating as ever. You put on as sweet of a smile as you could manage, bowing to the two men in front of you as you addressed them. “Excuse me, Coach Irihata?” 

“Ah, yes. You must be (y/n)? From the dance club?” The older of the two men, having dark hair and being slightly shorter, turned to look at you with a closed-eye smile. He stood before you with one hand in the pocket of his track jacket, motioning with the other for his younger assistant coach to have the players stop what they were doing. “I believe your club sponsor messaged me about today?”

“Yes, sir.” You nodded, looking behind you and motioned for the rest of your club team to step forward towards you. 

The third years confidently strode up next to you, the second years following as well, while the few first years who made the cut scampered across the floor almost in fear as they looked around the gym with wide eyes. My god, at least act like you’ve been around boys before, you thought. You would have to talk to them about what kind of impression they were giving off.

“We have a competition coming up and need to practice on a floor similar to what the gym we will be in is like,” You explained after turning back to the man before you, your hands clasped behind your back. “We shouldn’t be more than thirty minutes, if you could spare the space.”

You really tried your hardest to make it seem like you were asking the world of them, hoping a little bit of sweet talking would go a long way.

The older man nodded, motioning around at the players who were slowly starting to gather around. You caught sight of Oikawa and Iwaizumi, the latter looking annoyed as ever as Oikawa made an obnoxious effort to wave to you. Coach Irihata spoke up as the captain of his team came up to stand next to you, “Well, of course I don’t see why we can’t spare some time in our gym to the lovely girlfriend of our captain?”

“We only need a little bit of space, sir.” You clarified, not really intending to take over their space entirely. 

“Nonsense,” Irihata shook his head, turning to Oikawa with a stern expression. “I believe a little cardio conditioning would be a good use of this time?”

You saw Oikawa’s face harden just slightly, one of his eyes twitching in annoyance at the thought of what his coach was asking them to do. He answered with a clenched jaw and a forced happiness, “Yes sir, a great idea!”

When Coach Irihata turned away to talk with his assistant, Oikawa turned to you with a ferocious look on his face. “You are going to make everyone hate me, (y/n).”

You smiled and reached up to pat his cheek with an overly sweet smile on your face, “Thanks so much for letting us take your gym for a little bit, baby.” You cooed loudly enough for most of his team to hear, pinching his cheek a little harder than necessary. His pride made him stop himself from swatting you away.

You looked at the rest of your team and motioned for them to go forward and get ready for the short practice you were allowed. You could hear some of the boys who had gathered around start to grumble, knowing that if they were going to have to leave the gym they were probably going for a run. 

You had continued to talk with Oikawa, teasing him about one thing or another, when a group of volleyball players had gathered a few meters away. While the attention of the couple was on one another, they took the opportunity to gape at the new addition to their captain’s life. How could they not?

There you stood, sculpted legs looking smooth and bare as the only thing that covered them were a few inches of spandex that didn’t leave much to the imagination. You had a baggy zip-up hoodie on and were fiddling with the zipper, one side had slipped off your shoulder exposing the thin strap of your stylish sport top and Oikawa moved to tug it back up and fix it for you. That made you smile and thank him.

“Damn,” One volleyball player said, “That guy really gets anything he wants, huh?”

“You think she’s as flexible as she looks?” A second asked.

“Of course she is,” A third mumbled to his teammates, eyes looking up and down your body from afar. He started to motion with his hands in a crude manner. “Imagine puttin’ her legs-”

A clearing of someone’s throat made the three second years stop, their breath collectively catching in their chests as one of them halted the perverted motions of his hands. Turning to look, they were met with the hard and aggressive gaze of their third year vice captain. His eyes looked like they were ablaze, daring them to continue their vulgar conversation.

“I suggest you focus more on practice,” He said, a warning tone to his voice as he spoke, he was doing what he could to control the sudden and surprising feeling of anger. “Rather than making comments about an upperclassman and your captain’s girlfriend.”

The three boys visibly gulped, pushing at one another to move away from Iwaizumi and towards the doors where their outside shoes and the rest of the team were gathered.

You heard a slight commotion from behind you, turning to look along with Oikawa and seeing a group of younger boys scamper away from Iwaizumi. They only briefly glanced back at you, eyes bugging out when they saw you were watching them. You looked at Iwaizumi who was only glaring at them, the tip of his ears a very light shade of red.

“Anyway, sweetness.” Oikawa sang, turning back to you as he walked backwards and away. “Have fun with your dancing, maybe later I can get an encore performance~”

“Eat shit, Tooru.” You laughed before calling out to the rest of the team, wiggling your fingers and a mocking gesture at the team behind Oikawa. “Enjoy your run, boys~ Thanks again!”

You had originally thought thirty minutes was going to be enough time for your team to run through each of the routines at least a few times and it pretty much was. You had sent the rest of the girls back to the club studio and it was now just you, Ichika, and a first year named Kiko. She was a cute girl who was very dedicated to dance, you remembered her vaguely from your middle school days.

“Okay,” You started, catching your breath a little bit as you motioned for her to get into the routine’s starting position again. She was going to be performing the beginning solo of the group dance at your competition coming up. She was really the only girl other than the third years you trusted to be skilled and committed enough at this point. “When it’s just you it’s a lot easier to get off tempo because there isn’t anyone else to compare with.”

She nodded over at you, her hair was tied back in a tight bun giving her a severe look. Her dark hair contrasted with her light skin, and her petite body made her look exactly like what you’d expect a dancer to be. She was dedicated, a good listener, and she tried hard - you couldn’t ask for much else.

“So, with that in mind,” You said, nodding to Ichika who was standing off to the side with her phone in her hand, clicking a few times to make the music start. “The music is going to seem a fuck-ton louder.”

With perfect timing, the music you’d picked out for the performance blasted through the gym speakers, seeming louder than when you’d practiced with your whole club. The two of you jumped into the sequence of movements, your movements a little more confident than hers but still matching perfectly. You twisted, jumped, kicked your legs, and spun on your toes. When the choreography was done, you stood with your hands on your hips, breathing heavily to fill your lungs with much needed air.

“I still feel” Kiko breathed, looking at you with her big eyes. “Like I’m off.”

“I’d tell you if you were.” You shrugged, not sure you agreed with her but understanding her wanting to be perfect. “We’ve got time, why don’t you come to my place this weekend and we can keep practicing?”

She nodded and followed as you motioned for her and Ichika to head towards the door where the volleyball team was gathering again. They were covered in sweat and looking pretty beat from the exercise they had performed outside. 

You caught Oikawa and Iwaizumi, neither looking quite as winded as the rest of their teammates. You waved as you left the gym, letting them know you’d meet up with them later.

“Uh h-hi Kiko,” A very tall first year member of the volleyball team greeted your dance partner with a great deal of enthusiasm. He had dark hair that definitely added to his height and just the smallest of blushes was apparent on his cheeks. Kiko waved shyly at him, looking down at her feet when she saw that you were watching her. You teased her with a jab of your elbow as you continued walking past the team.

omg book recs, there's so many i like and so many i still have to read 😭 if we're talking ya books i would definitely have to say six of crows duology by leigh bardugo, the conqueror's saga by kiersten white, or the flame in the mist duology by renee ahdieh! special mention to all of cassandra clare's books Except for the mortal instruments series (city of bones, city of glass, etc). that one was just a lil Much for me hshfjsjdj, but the infernal devices and the dark artifices are honestly amazing and they made me Cry :') nowadays i find myself not having the attention span energy to read long series like i used to, but there is this memoir by tara westover that i just really really love. more than the themes of how important education is, the conflicts presented in the author's family life and her struggle between loyalty to her family vs following her own path & what she believes is right is so heart-wrenchingly beautiful, not to mention her prose when describing certain memories. there's a certain feeling that comes from reading things recalled in hindsight that just makes me djejfjdkfkskkf. i'm going to start reading song of achilles soon, so i'm crossing my fingers that it'll be good!!

again, so many to choose from!! i’m picking these boys based on how well i would vibe w them if they were purely platonic, not a friends to lovers type sitch (that is Another post in of itself):

1. tanaka! the Ultimate hypeman, i feel like the teachers would hate us if we were in the same class bc we’d be That pair that never shuts up LMAOSFK. he just radiates chaotic best friend energy and i need a hypeman in my life (the only reason i’m not putting nishinoya with him is bc if tanaka is my best bud then obv nishinoya is gonna be there right with him)

2. oikawa! alright this is only assuming that i would be immune to oikawa’s charms, which, as a viewer i am not, judging by the way i literally let out a gutteral scream every time he shows up, BUT....i feel like if i knew him in real life i’d be over his whole playboy act pretty quick. he just seems like a rly cool dude, i could make fun of him with the rest of the seijoh third years out of love ❤, it’d be a blast! not to mention uhHHH pls oikawa i am begging you set me up with your best friend iwaizumi so we can have our friends-to-lover’s au and you can be my wingman 😋

3. i feel like daichi would be that one kid that starts out as a pure same-class friend but then you end up having your entire school schedule line up so then you start walking to class together and suddenly you’re having platonic study dates and popping by his lunch table to say hi every time you pass by :’) would love to have Responsible Dad as a friend to keep me accountable LMAO, 10/10 please appear in my life

4. i think my last one would be osamu?? now listen, is it because i’m in love with his brother and i think he would be a wonderful wingman? MAYBE, but that’s not important right now! osamu is also one of those same-class friends who you exchange phone numbers with so you can talk about homework but then you end up texting each other casually and you end up sending him memes and he ends up sending you stupid videos and pictures of atsumu as form of “safe keeping” in case atsumu tries to erase evidence from his phone. seems super chill but would 100% ROAST your teachers and classmates with you in the back of the class. doesn’t hurt to get discount on onigiri miya either!!

for desserts, i love the types of desserts that are refreshing and cleanse your palate after a meal! i mean, i will still accept anything involving chocolate if given the chance, but i love fruit-based desserts! fruit tarts, strawberry shortcakes (the japanese ones!), mochi ice cream, you name it!

and for goals this year, i’m aiming to form a good solid plan for the future! i’m in a pretty pinnacle stage in my life at the moment, so i’m trying to become an overall more put-together person, in every aspect of the word :’)

(Part 1) I'm gonna go ahead and rate every match in the series

Rules:

1) We need to see a significant portion of the game, so simply glimpses of practice or official matches or just really short games don't count (so let's say more than 2 chapters long in the manga (with one exception as it's kind of a crucial one), I know this will miss out a few great moments, and basically the entirety of the training camp, but this list would be like 1000 pages long otherwise)

2) I'll go in chronological order as opposed to preference order because I'm too lazy for that

3) This first post is gonna be all the matches already in the anime, and I'll make a second about the manga (I'll post a link to each other on both) so this is spoiler free. Here's part 2 with the manga matches-

Alright

Yukigaoka Junior High Vs Kitagawa Daiichi

Okay, obviously this was more like a prologue than anything else. It holds a place in my heart for introducing us to these characters, and later on for not dropping Kouji and Izumi, and I liked the little details like how being in the football club meant he was able to make a good save or 2 with his foot. But of course this was hardly a match necessarily. Still fun and I enjoyed a lot of it, though.

Karasuno 3 Vs 3

Oh, Tsukki, to think you aren't as big of a douchebag as you seemed here.

I really do appreciate the entire situation, though. Tsukishima never disliked volleyball, it wasn't like he suddenly started getting serious after never doing so before when the Shiratorizawa match came, he was always one who could be riled up but he just didn't want to show it because it was irritating to him that people were so intense.

The match itself was really nice for what it was. The early matches really contained a lot of foreshadowing, like Yamaguchi messing up the serve we saw him do. And of course this was the start of the partnership between Kageyama and Hinata. Still warming up to proper matches, of course.

Karasuno Vs Aoba Johsai practice match

Okay, this is undoubtedly the funniest match of the show. Not necessarily the funnest (I won't forget Jozenji) but it was kind of hilarious. Poor Hinata freaking out, I love him, but it was so endearing. And of course there's the serve mistake he made. Baby crow grew up afterwards.

But then Oikawa's introduction was badass as hell. I love the entire Seijoh team, they're great, and I love every opposing team, but Oikawa is still the best rival in the series in my opinion. And people like Tanaka got some spotlight too which was nice.

Karasuno High Vs Neighborhood Association

Listen. I may be biased because I love the Neighborhood Association, but I absolutely loved this match. It was hype even though it was low stakes. We got Noya and Asahi playing for the first time, and Suga as well in fact. The introduction of the jump float serve. Some fantastic saves and spikes. I love it. And it was emotionally fulfilling.

Anyway, I'm only talking about the match so I can't count how much I adored Kenma's introduction and the two of them meeting (Hinata, you're my cinnamon roll), nor can I count the ridiculous interactions before and after (Yamamoto and Tanaka, Kuroo and Daichi, and Yaku and Suga, are just too perfect) but other than that, I REALLY liked how Nekoma was the first team to show us how any spike can be countered. I loved Hinata and Inuoka's rivalry, and I so appreciated how they showed Kenma being a strategist. Also, in the manga, there's like 20 panels of him like this

Which is a) a freaking mood, and b) one stupidly endearing quality about him.

Maybe this match is just about how much I love every character?

But it was so fun. Oikawa is the best individual rival, but Nekoma is their best rival as a whole. It's just so great.

Karasuno Vs Tokonami

I loved how we got backstory for Daichi. I don't know why, but I didn't exactly expect it? Like I expected development, but I guess I'm used to the focus being purely the main characters in terms of backstory, at least this early on, in most series. But I really like Ikejiri and I find his dynamic with Daichi endearing.

Not the best "match" but I appreciated the sentiment

Karasuno Vs Dateko

Oh, now we're talking. Gonna be honest, Dateko is one of my least favourite teams (I still love them! I love every single team. They're just on the lower end of a really highly appreciative scale) but this match was fantastic.

Again, I may be judging this based on one aspect, but I mean to this day Noya's save is one of my favourite scenes in anything. It was so well done, both anime and manga, and I just fell even more in love with Noya. And the symbolism of smashing through the iron wall was so great.

Karasuno Vs Aoba Johsai (1st official match)

And we come to the only team which Karasuno faced more than once in an official game (that we see) and that means I can't help but judge it harsher because their second game was awesome

HOWEVER! I still 100% love this game. It's such an important game to everyone and though I won't count the after effect, in the restaurant and all, I will count the immediate aftermath. It was so sad but also understandable and the entire match itself was intense. I could go into it, but it just paid off. The build up and the animosity between some of the players, the background we got for the characters during this game, the freaking soundtrack which is incredible in any of the matches.

Fantastic.

Karasuno Vs Jozenji

Most certainly NOT meh!

I love Jozenji so much. I want to see them more! They're so, so fun, and this shows you don't have to stick within a specific type of play. Be able to have fun while also being serious, it's important!

And, like, they're good! They're not bad or anything, even though they're messing around. They're entertaining as hell but also try hard.

I love them

And we got to see Suga playing too. I love him so I need to point this out.

Karasuno Vs Wakutani

Firstly, rip Daichi.

Alright, but seriously, I'm so glad we got to see someone like Takeru. His playing style is completely different to Hinata's at this point, yet they admire the same player, but neither of them are actually cruel or rude to the other team. This was such a respectful match while also being intense.

And we got to see an injury of a key player who couldn't go back on the court unlike Kags in the previous game, which, while unfortunate, is actually really, really good to see. It happens and can throw a spanner in the works, but it allowed us to also see 1) Ennoshita stepping up, 2) Tanaka's reaction to accidentally injuring Daichi (though it wasn't really his fault), and 3) an entirely different type of dynamic on the court.

Also, Yamaguchi! My baby! I felt like crying for the poor thing, but this was the start of his confidence and I love him so much.

I really, really, really liked this match.

Karasuno Vs Aoba Johsai (2nd official match)

YES!

Okay, firstly, the strategies in this game. Using a double edged sword like Mad Dog from Aoba Johsai, and Karasuno going with a more tactic savvy thinker when in a bind, like Suga, even though Kageyama is over all a better player, it was SO great to see. Suga may not be a genius or a prodigy, but his intelligence doesn't just lie in volleyball, so he can use general knowledge to his advantage so well, and teach Kageyama something too.

Kyoutani is such an interesting character and forms a brilliant dynamic for the team to play with, it's great.

Oikawa being shown to make genuine errors is such a fantastic thing. No matter how good you are, Oikawa, Kageyama, Ushijima, whoever, you will never be 100% perfect, and you will always have moments where you make mistakes. I really enjoyed seeing that. Especially his serves, which we were introduced to before his setting.

And, of course, the Hero of the match...

I WILL PROTECT YOU! BUT RIGHT NOW YOU DON'T NEED PROTECTING, YOU ARE SMASHING IT, YES BABY!

Sorry. Got over whelmed. But real talk, I also liked that they did eventually lose that set. Miraculous plays don't automatically win the game, but it also doesn't diminish their importance.

Karasuno Vs Shiratorizawa

Well, do I really need to say it?

Yes, Tsukishima owned this match, this season of the show, but he wasn't the only great player

Nishinoya had some amazing moments, Hinata is such an idiot but he utilised that to his advantage by...not thinking. Like, he deliberately received the ball with his face. I mean, come on.

Yamaguchi played great too, Suga was such a key part even when on the bench (yelling at them from the side lines is absolutely brilliant), pretty much everyone was amazing here.

But while it was longer, I still preferred the Aoba Johsai game. Only slightly. Still-

Highlights from their special interview include:

Kenta notes that for the past two years, he and Tatsunari have been together nearly constantly (with barely two weeks being the longest time they go without seeing each other).  

Tatsunari reveals that when they go for their very first dress rehearsal in the theaters for any show, he recommends skin-ship with your co-stars to heighten your senses regarding one another.  He says it helps everyone go into the performance with a fresh feeling as you take in everyone’s determination and passion as well as their physical conditions.

Hiroki tells us that with the length of time they’ve all spent together, everyone in the company has become very perceptive and aware of each other’s personalities and tendencies.  For example, when one member is feeling down, there will always be at least one or two people to notice that and someone who knows how best to talk to that person and where to best take them.  In particular, Kenta keeps particular note of everyone this way, like the amazing cast leader that he is.  

Kousuke tells us that what he loves about this cast is how well they can communicate with one another.  As they all work together to make a singular production, yes, rivalries develop among them, certain obvious senpai-kouhai relationships take form, but he never feels like he can’t ask for help, and he never feels like he can’t say what’s on his mind if he has a suggestion to give.  

Allen thinks of the staff for Engeki Haikyuu as parental figures for the entire production and that they’re always very warm and easy to talk to.  For example, when the actors need to know better the exact details of the projection mapping and how it’ll look all put together, they’re always as helpful as they can be.  Even though he’s only been around since the re-run, he doesn’t feel distant from the rest of the cast or the staff and he’s very grateful to everyone.  

When asked what each of them would like to improve: Kenta said that he wants to get better at laundry and at cooking; cooking especially.  He thinks it’s super cool when a man can have friends over and be like, “Just wait a bit,” and then go to the kitchen to make them a meal like pasta.  

Tatsunari wants to stop overthinking things, which he has a tendency to do.  For example, he worries about babies knocking over glasses in restaurants.  He wants to be able to maybe just take action (like grabbing that cup and moving it out of their reach) instead of worrying too much.  

Hiroki sometimes feels like he gets carried away with his emotions and is easily influenced by the moods of people around him.  So he wants to be able to just relax, keep things in perspective, and be a little calmer overall.

Kousuke used to just eat whenever he got hungry, even in the middle of the night.  This sometimes resulted in him eating 4 or 5 meals a day, which he knows isn’t great for his body, especially eating super late at night.  But after working on his first leading role at the start of this year, he suddenly started eating 3 regular meals due to his schedule with that play, so he’s thankful that theater can help organize his life.

Allen has a bit of a sweet tooth and loves pastries, so he’s trying to cut back on always eating them.  He normally tries to avoid eating them all the time, but a lot of times when he goes to the convenience store, he can’t help himself.  At the very least, on days when he does that, he makes sure to go for a run to make up for it.  He thinks it’d be too sad to give up sweets completely, but he’s trying to avoid over-eating them.

In the group stage of the interview… 

When asked about the Revival production in fall of 2016, Kenta tells us that although the physicality of the show can be quite taxing, the Revival was easier on him in a lot of ways because he wasn’t alone on stage as much.  When he’s on stage with even at least one other person like Tatsunari, it takes the pressure off.

Tatsunari loved Asahi’s spotlight scene during the Datekou match where he makes his breakthrough as Karasuno’s ace.  He gets goosebumps from it.  

Hiroki thought it’d be rough for them to have as long a run as they did in Tokyo, but in the end, he thinks that was mostly a personal battle and not one everyone else felt.  

With 29 total cast members, there were so many elements that could change from show to show.  For Allen and Kousuke, who served as observers and commentators for the second half of the show, they could directly see all of the little changes and adjustments that occurred in each show.  Kousuke enjoyed seeing people run around backstage in their respective team colors.  For both Allen and Kousuke, they thought carrying around the railing was super tough.  LOL

Sometimes, the director’s notes are impossible to understand until they start working on it.  Like when he wrote, “that ball goes up higher and higher and then becomes the world.”  Kenta was definitely confused when he first read that in the script.  

As actors, because the entire cast of Karasuno has been present for every show and have worked all together, their volleyball skills and their teamwork has improved steadily.  For Aoba Johsai, who did not feature in the Revival production, excepting Allen and Kousuke (who also didn’t play any volleyball), they think it will take some work to show on-stage that Seijoh is meant to be the more powerful team when they haven’t been given as many chances to play together as a unit.  But even so, Allen’s looking forward to it.  

As Allen made these comments, Hiroki realized that joining that Karasuno teamwork will be a challenge for him personally as his character Suga hasn’t appeared in nearly as many matches as everyone else.  Tatsunari ‘reassured’ him by saying that the matches are super tough.  To which Hiroki responded, “Oh no, what do I do.”

Tatsunari describes rehearsals like being at the zoo.  It’s as lively and as exciting as the zoo, and they never really know what’ll happen on any given day.

Tatsunari is very excited about the move to a bigger venue in Tokyo Dome City Hall, which will give many more people the chance to see the show.

Hiroki will do his best to not lose to everyone.

Kenta then noted that during the Revival production, Shouhei and Justin often used to say that the matches were fun and that it was fun putting that choreography together.  Hopefully, Hiroki can latch onto their enthusiasm and not get too discouraged.  To which Hiroki replied that he would do exactly that and work hard without complaints.  Kenta quickly followed that they needed to get that in writing.  Or that if Hiroki does start to complain, he’ll have to bring this Sparkle magazine to rehearsals to show everyone.

Allen thinks it’ll be interesting to finally have Kousuke (Oikawa) in the match from the very beginning to the end, and he feels the pressure to display their relationship as one that says, “He’ll know what to do even if I don’t say anything.”  But he feels their off-stage relationship is starting to get to that point anyway.   

Kousuke more than anyone else wants to play through a match from beginning to end in its entirety.  

Kenta’s closing comments for the interview came from the Director, Kinoshita Worry.  During a meal with Kenta, Tatsunari, and the Director, he said, “I’m gonna tell you something good and you can’t tell anyone else.”  So of course Kenta tells us exactly what it is.  But the keyword for the next play is: “entrust.”  Pay special attention to how the setters Sugawara, Kageyama, and Oikawa entrust the ball to the others to make the play.
