Oc-tober Day 2: Glass
It’s about time I gave my beloved Arlo some more depth, so here’s a scene from when he’s about 16 or 17. He’s a bit of a loose cannon, so pairing him with something as delicate as glass seemed like a fun challenge. It was also fun to get to know his mom’s side of the family; I’ve never developed them beyond very basic characteristics, until now. I tried to keep it light, but there are (hopefully) some bittersweet undertones.
Thanks to @oc-growth-and-development for making this list!
Day 2: Glass
“Watch out!” Danny shouted. “The glass door is shut!”
Arlo skidded to a halt just before colliding with the storm door. The sun was shining just so that you couldn’t see the glass separating the porch from the foyer. “That was a close one,” he laughed. “Could’ve sworn it was open.”
“Mom never leaves the glass door open, or else bugs will get in.”
“I guess that makes sense. My step-mom leaves ours open all the time.”
Danny shrugged, which was probably for the best. Arlo already knew that his half-brother lived in a much more luxurious, clean house than he did, and Danny was kind enough not to rub it in, at least not on purpose.
“Do you want something to drink?” Arlo asked, eager to get a moment's respite from the heat.
“Nah, I’ll come in later. I need to run by James’ house.” Danny jerked his thumb to the house across the street. “I’m borrowing his mitt for the church game tonight.” “But you already have your own mitt.”
“I like his better. See ya.” Danny smiled before running across the street, not even looking for cars. It seemed like cars never went by here. Arlo only ever saw people walking on the sidewalks, at least during mid-day. He assumed that was just what rich neighborhoods were like, though this was the only rich neighborhood he’d spent any time in.
Arlo came in through the front door and took off his shoes -- a strictly enforced rule in this house -- and ambled through the living room to the kitchen. Rose, the youngest of his two half-siblings, was sitting on the floor, doing a puzzle on the glass coffee table.
“Why aren’t you playing outside?” Arlo asked.
“It’s hot. I’d rather sit in the AC.” She lifted up her ginger ponytail to show Arlo the back on her neck. “Besides, I got burnt yesterday, and I’m not going to just go out and get burnt even worse.”
“Fair enough.” Arlo sometimes forgot how fair-skinned Danny and Rose were. The mother they shared was a red-headed Irish beauty born and raised in Grosse Pointe, Michgan, but Arlo had taken after his father, a swarthy Florida native with Russian-Jewish roots. He could handle hot summer days without the fear of sunburn. Danny and Rose’s dad was just as Irish and Michiganian as their mother, so they didn’t stand a chance.
“You want something to drink?” Arlo offered once he made it to the kitchen.
“Yes, lemonade please.” Arlo poured his sister a glass while asking, “Do you have any Kool-Aid?”
“No,” Rose said, looking disappointed. “Mom won’t let us have it. She says it’s uneahlthy.”
“It can’t have any more sugar than this lemonade has.”
“Try telling her that. And it’s not just the sugar, it’s the dyes. She thinks they’ll stain our teeth.”
Arlo shook his head, though he couldn’t help but smile. If Mom could only see the things I eat and drink at home, she’d have a heart attack.
He joined Rose in the living room, setting her glass of lemonade on the coffee table. “Coaster,” she reminded him.
“Sorry.” He wiped the little ring of condensation off of the glass top before setting the drink on a coaster. “What’s even the point of a glass table?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, you’re supposed to set things on a table, and eat on it, and touch it, and all that. But with a glass table, you’ve gotta keep it looking perfect all the time. At least this one. Mom got mad at me last night for putting my feet on it because she said they’d smudge the surface.”
“I guess I’ve never thought about it,” Rose replied, reflectively sipping her lemonade.
“Glass cups are stupid too,” he mused. “Why have something that can break so easily when you can just use plastic?”
“Glass cups look nicer.”
Arlo bit his tongue. He wanted to say that being practical was more important than looking nice, but Rose might take that as an insult, and as strange and frustrating as this household could be, he never wanted to take it out on his siblings. They saw each other so infrequently that he didn’t want to waste any of that time arguing.
“I think the only glass things that my dad has are his windows,” Arlo joked.
“Really?”
“Yep. We’re both too clumsy to have breakables around.” “I don’t think you’re clumsy.”
“I almost ran into the glass door earlier.” “That’s just an accident,” she reasoned. “It’s not your fault that Mom’s house is so...pristine.”
Arlo assumed “pristine” meant “fancy”. His half-siblings had much better vocabulary than he did, but he never let on that their words confused him.
“I’d like to go to your house someday,” Rose said. “You always come here, but we never go there.”
“Well, there’s no reason for you to go there. It’s a long ways away, and you wouldn’t know anyone but me.”
“I’d still like to go, though. Missouri sounds fun, they way you talk about it.”
To Rose, the Catholic suburbanite who wasn’t even allowed to drink Kool-Aid, Arlo’s house probably did sound fun. The only rules his dad gave him were, “Don’t talk back, and clean your room.”
“Maybe once you’re in high school, Mom will let you get a train ticket or something.”
“I hope so,” she smiled.
Arlo leaned back and looked out the front window, watching young, beautiful families walk out to get their mail or enjoy a stroll, and he briefly wished that he could live here all the time. But when he absentmindedly  lifted up his bare feet and put them on the coffee table, Rose said, “You’re gonna smudge it,” and he was glad this was just a visit.

An August-Walter one-shot
Summary: August helps his twin brother rescue you, who’d been kidnapped.
Triggers: Kidnapping; death; drunk-driving; violence; use of curse words; heartbreak; family problems; death of parents
Tag list: @lunedelorient @henrythickcavill @wolvesandhoundshowltogether @mary-ann84 @desperate-and-broken @peakygroupie @summersong69 @ivvitm1109 @madbaddic7ed
The phone kept ringing non-stop. August was finishing getting ready to go meet Erika Slone to give him the information about a new case. He looked at the screen when it started but ignored it when he saw who was the caller. He hadn't talked to his brother in years and long before that their relationship was not at its best. He'd never forgive Walter for blaming him for their parent's death, even though he blamed himself as well - he should have told his parents he had more than a few drinks before driving them off to the airport for their trip. But he didn't want to disappoint them, to give them a reason to once more complain about how fucked up he was and that he should be more like his sibling; the golden child, the one that could do no wrong. After half an hour of the constant ringing, August finally decided to accept the call. - What the hell you want, Walter? I'm busy.- He said angrily and annoyed. - Y/N was kidnapped. - Walter said. His brother could hear the fear and sadness on his voice. He was heartbroken. But he wasn't the only one. As soon as he heard those words, it felt as if someone dig a hand into his chest and crushed his heart. Their relationship was bad, but they tried to get along for a while and they succeeded until you came along. You moved next to his house and became friends with him. He fell for you and thought about giving everything up for you. He planned to get a normal job, to carry a simple life so you'll never be in danger and could be happy. Yet, life was once more unfair to him. Walter showed up one thanksgiving to spent the day with him and you were there. Long story short, he soon had you on his arms. The golden child, the one who could do no wrong, made the woman of his dreams fall deeply in love with him. August thought about sharing his feelings with you, but he saw that there was no point. You soon moved out to live with Walter, taking all the light in his life with you. After that, he lost all contact with his remaining family. He knew; his brother knew how he felt about you, but his feelings towards you made him ignored how selfish it was to be with the woman his own blood loved and did exactly that. That's when August realized he and his brother would never be in good terms again. He'll never forgive him for that. Now, hearing that you've been taken and that you could be suffering right now or even worse made him feel nauseous and filled him with anger. He wanted to find the people who did that to you and kill them. If someone made you suffer, they would suffer twice the pain you have. And he wanted to hurt his brother. How he let that happen? If you would be with him, he'd had murder anyone who tried to put a hand on you. - I know you hate me... I don't blame you for that. But I also know you care a great deal about her.- Walter continued after a long silence.- I'm using all the sources I have and asking favours to people I know looking for help to find her, but her whereabouts are still unknown. I'm begging you, Charlie, help me find her.- he begged. - August. Charlie not longer exists and you know that. - he corrected him. He heard his brother sigh. - August.-he accepted.- Please. I know your resources are bigger than mine. I need you to help me get her back safe. - What information do you have about her disappearance?- he requested - The last person to see her was her boss. She said that after leaving the store, she saw her get in her car and then she turned to read a phone message and when she looked back, the car was gone. We checked the security cameras of the store and there was no footage of that day. The same thing happened with the ones two blocks around her working place. After that, there's no sign of her or her car or any car for the matter. It's like if she had vanished.- Walter explained worriedly. - That's because that was the plan of the people who took her.- August assured furious- This wasn't a job of a creep. Whoever kidnapped her, knew exactly what was doing, who she was and planned it. - You think that...this is about taking her as a sex...-his brother couldn't even finish the sentence. - No. This is more personal. This is about revenge.- he sighed, closing his hand in a fist to control his rage. He felt a fire raising in his body. People would get hurt. He would make sure of that. There was a long silence before anyone spoke again. Both brothers were suffering, fearing the worst. - Keep me informed about any new information you find. - August ordered Walter. - Same for you.-he agreed.- And Char... August, thank you. - I'm not doing this for you.- he replied. - I know. Still, thank you.- he finished and August hung out the phone with saying anything else. It was revenge, there was no doubt of that on August's head. The question was revenge against who? For what? This wasn't about you; you were just an employee at a clothing shop. A lovely woman who wouldn't hurt a fly. So why anyone would want to hurt you? No, the plan was to use you against someone close to you. There were only two people that could have somebody wanting revenge: Walter, a police Lieutenant working on homicide section of the force or, well, himself; a double agent working for the CIA and with a rebellious organization looking to tear down the CIA from the inside. Could have someone on the CIA found out that August was also John Lark and was trying to attack him for that?  How could that be possible? He was pretty good a covering everything up, although he had to admit to himself that that seemed more likely that someone trying to hurt Walter. That infuriated him more. He hated himself his entire life for causing his parents deaths; he could even allow the thought of being the reason something bad happened to you. He immediately contacted all The Apostles working in the CIA to search for her.  He had to go to meet Sloane so she wouldn't find out about you. If this wasn't her doing, it was best for her not to know that there was someone he cared about if someday things went wrong. He pretended to care about the mission. As much as he wanted to do nothing but search for you, he needed to do what his boss asked him to. His mission was to find a folder with secret information that could hurt the organization. Something that the Apostles would love to have access to. I took him two days to recover the archives and made a copy before returned them to Erika Slone. She was impressed by the speed of his work, that she granted him a few days off to handle personal business. The people working with him in secret were not happy with him using their resources to find an "insignificant woman," as one of them pointed out to August, which unleashed his anger and he beat him until he was agonizing. After that nobody questioned him anymore. The more time it passed without knowing about you, the more desperate he'd get and the more dangerous he became. He tried to sleep because he needed to be ready to fight, but there was no chance he'd sleep knowing you were still in danger. He texted his brother a few times to check for new information but he was clueless as he was.
Three weeks had passed since the last time you were seeing. And, for the first time, August had received useful information. Your father, whom you haven't seen since you were twelve years old, had adopted a new identity years ago, putting himself in a protection witness program after giving up some dangerous gangsters he used to work for. August took the first flight he found to Florida to search for him. The man in his middle sixties entered his apartment to find the tall, muscle man wearing a brown suit with a beige shirt and a tie. The big man was sitting on the couch, that looked much smaller than it was with him sitting on it. August stood up, fixing his blazer, adopting a further dangerous appearance. - Who are you? - you father asked. - Your worst nightmare if you don't cooperate.- he warned him. - What do you want from me?- he questioned - Your daughter - Walker started - I have not daughter.- the man replied, shaking - Your new you doesn't, but the old one does. Remember Y/N? The daughter you cowardly abandoned when she was a child? She's been taken by someone and I want to find her. As soon as August explained the reason for his visit, your progenitor covered his face with both hands, sitting on a chair, crying. - My little girl... I thought she'd been safe without me around.- he cried.- They've taken her. This is their doing.- he assured. - Who are they?- August demanded he was about to lose all the remaining patience. - My former boss. He's one of the biggest gangsters in the country. He's bad news. - your father informed.- I started to work for him when y/n was born and I had recently lost my job and was desperate for money. I had a daughter to take care of. At first, my job was simple, just being his driver. Soon enough, my job included cleaning blood for the car and covering for him and help his people get rid of bodies. One day I could no take that anymore, so I confessed the story to the FBI and they offered protection if I gave them all the information necessary to arrest him, so I did that. My family didn't know about my wrongdoings, so I prefered for them to think that I abandoned them to know what kind of man I was. The FBI was supposed to take care of her. August sighed. A part of him wanted to crush his skull for being the reason you were in danger and for abandoned you, and other part felt a little sympathy. He also knew what it was to make mistakes that caused pain to loved ones. - Probably they did that until she was an adult and thought she was safe when she started to date a police Lieutenant.- your partner's brother explained.- Tell me everything you got on him. There has to be any useful information you can give me to find her. - Who are you? Why are you doing this? - I'm someone who'd do anything to bring her home safe and that's all you need to know. Now, start talking.
August found you on a room laid on a bed. You were on fetal position, covering your face with your hands, facing the wall. He approached you and stroke your hair and you turned around quickly, shaking of fear. Your eyes were red and a bit swelled due to crying. As soon as you realized who it was, you hugged him with all the strength you had left and cry. He embraced you, pulling you closer to him, making you feel safe. He gave you his blazer to keep you warm and help you get out. He covered your face and asked you not to watch, but you inevitable you saw a room filled with dead bodies. You closed your eyes trying to erase that image. He sat you on the passenger seat of a car and soon he was sitting on the driver's side. He drove for a few hours and then stopped at the side of the road. You looked at him and he smiled at you, stroking your face and pulling the hair behind your ear. " Walter is picking you up here. He's on his way," August explained. You nodded. You tried to grab his hand, but pulled right away when you felt the heat of his skin; your hands were freezing and you didn't want him to be cold. He noticed that, so he took your hand and use his hands to warm them up. "Thank you, Aust," you said smiling, "thank you so much". You took him by surprise. It's been such a long time since he heard you call him Aust, the nickname you gave him soon after you became friends with him. He missed that, a lot. He turned the heat of the car for you to get warm. Two hours later, you saw a car stop in front of you. It was Walter's Ford F-150. As soon as you recognized it, you jumped out of the car and ran into him. He imitated you, getting off the car just in time to catch you when you thew yourself into his arms. He hugged you, putting his hand on the back of your head in a protective manner. You could feel his heavy breath. He grabbed a big jacket from the back of the car and put it on you, giving you his gloves as well. Walter faced his brother when he approached to make sure you were ok before he left. He offered a hand for August to shake, thanking him for saving you. He, as stubborn as he was, ignored him and turned around and started to walk off. Before getting into the car, he shouted to you not to worry, that he had taken care of the bad guys and now you were completely safe and then he turned on the car and drove away. You hugged and kissed Walter. He kissed all over your face and then helped you get on the car to take you home.

Epilogue
Jamie spent every evening with Claire and Brian, enjoying family dinners, outings as the weather warmed up, and he held Claire in his arms before he went home. Try as he might, his upbringing prevented him from sleeping with Claire, at least to Brian’s knowledge, before they were married. Most nights they would make passionate love while Brian slept and came close to being caught only once in the first three months.
Several deals were struck after the fateful day at the bookstore. Those included a timeout for discussing what had come to pass during their separation. A date was set like a business meeting eight weeks in the future. On that day they met at the bookstore and shut themselves away from the world until all the facts had been heard and all questions answered.
Jamie started with the events after Claire left his home, heartbroken, and drove back to Edinburgh. He described his despair at seeing the photos of Jenny’s beating, arriving at the hospital in such a state he was tased, handcuffed, and arrested, twice. He was kept in jail for three days each time. The third time he went to the hospital he remained calm and learned she had been moved to an undisclosed place. He spoke about disinheriting his sister and having no contact before or after her trial. She was still in prison but would have a parole hearing in the coming year that he would not participate in. Lallybroch was boarded up and Jenny’s animals sold. She would live there upon her release unless she violated the rules of the court.
Jamie was promoted to Germany, as he expected and functioned at a low level for two years trying to find his joy again. On a trip to Edinburgh, he met Geneva Dunsany. After a long-distance relationship, she demanded marriage or else. He just felt dead inside. A letter was given to John at the Edinburgh store to be forwarded to Jamie. John could only say the pretty woman had red hair. The letter stated that Geneva was one of the drunk friends who participated in death threats against Claire the night of the beating, showing her support for Jenny. Geneva was put on the next flight to Edinburgh and never seen again.
Just before he lost his mind completely, he resigned his position that he had worked so hard for, endured so many lonely years for.
“I hired a private detective to find ye but ye just vanished. I knew ye were alive, somewhere, because I would feel the difference in the world if ye were not. I bought a used bookstore, renamed it and put the classics room in first thing so I could see yer name on the outside and the inside every day. I thought ye might come back to London someday and wanted to put the stores everywhere so ye would see one and go inside. It felt like ye were workin with me, seein yer name every day. It made me feel better. I brought John back to London and put him in charge of the new stores once they were up and running. So, now I am CEO of a growin chain of upscale used bookstores because of you. On yer birthday, every year, I spent the day in the classics room, my Sassenach’s heart, and I read until the store closed, always with..." Jamie's head dropped and he took a deep breath, "a fresh bouquet in yer honor love.”
Claire sat on his lap and hugged him, hearing his tears for his heartbroken existence.
“Thank you, Jamie.”
They kissed for a bit and Jamie held her arms panting. “It’s yer turn lass.”
Claire explained she was in Egypt before she knew what was happening. Her friends Madu and Kamilah were from wealthy families in Cairo and Jadda, Madu’s father, arranged everything. Madu later told her the surgeon that removed her spleen told him about the pregnancy, but they expected she would lose the baby. In Cairo, she didn’t eat or awaken for many months so she was fed by a stomach tube. Madu forced her to listen and wake up, telling her about the baby that had continued to grow while she slept month after month. She explained the painful journey back to the living and how Madu’s family was always there to encourage her. Jaddati, Madu’s mother, started calling her abnataya, the Egyptian word for daughter. When Brian was born the whole family was eager to care for him and his Jadda and Jaddati fell in love with him, as did Madu.
“It was a special time for me, being held into a family because I never had one. Madu, Brian, and I were inseparable. I tried so hard to love him romantically and my failure to do so was as painful for me as it was for him. Without warning, Madu dropped to the floor one night when an aneurysm ruptured. He was dead before anyone could reach for a phone to call emergency. He was my best friend, my savior, and my family. I miss him every day."
Jamie lifted Claire to her feet and pulled her into his lap where he held her while she cried for her amazing friend. He realized Brian was too young to remember, but he knew all about Madu and felt sadness at his passing.
“Yer an incredible person Sassenach. Madu will live on in Brian’s heart because ye shared yer memory of this special man.”
Claire sat down in her chair again, ready to continue. She told Jamie about Geillis and how devoted to each other they had been. How they cried when Claire called after two years and were now besties again with regular visits to London.
”The house we live in was arranged by Jadda, I think he bought it so we would have a decent place to live. Right after we moved in I couldn’t find Brian and I panicked until I opened the front door and there he was, standing near the curb of our street. He told me Habbi, told him to stand there and wait for me. Habbi is Madu. I had Brian baptized when we returned to London, Geillis is his Godmother and Madu his spirit Godfather. I hope you don’t mind.”
“I canna think of two better people in the entire world love.”
“It’s your turn,” she whispered.
Jamie realized that Claire was spent emotionally. He led her to his office and turned out the lights before pulling her into his arms to lay next to him on the couch. She could hear his Gaelic speech through his chest and found great comfort there.
They hugged in silence for a while until Jamie gave her every reason to change course and draw that line between them again.
“Sassenach, love, will ye marry me?”
Claire’s head lifted abruptly to look at him and her mouth slowly smiled as he watched the answer play across her face.
“C’mon lass, dinna say no to yer soulmate," he teased. "I figure you will be my partner in the bookstores and bring yer magic to the enterprise. We can open a new store each year and Brian will see the world living short term in each location. When he starts school, we take off for cities near and far in the summer, like a three-month vacation every year. Do ye know anythin about a website?”
“Whoa Sassenach, tears? Dinna break my heart love.”
“I have a new job at the cultural center, one Sunday each month, we dance exhibition and I am the lead belly dancer. It’s in Madu’s memory I want to dance Jamie. How do you feel about that?”
She watched his eyes and saw him go into his head, still smiling, she waited and worried. When he looked at her several minutes later his skin had a rosy glow and his eyes sparkled.
“This means I get to keep both of ye Sassenach.”
“I suppose it does” she giggled.
************************** “Ma'am?”
Claire pushed her sunglasses up her nose and handed Geillis her drink. She thanked the waiter and handed him a tip before laying back on her lounge. The girls were treated to a spa day compliments of Jamie and it was a slice of heaven for both of them.
“Mmm, what a fantastic buzz and a beautiful spa. Remind me to thank Jamie. What is up with your weird drinks Claire? That looks like bubbles in water for Christ's sake.”
“It is club soda, on the rocks. Why you ask? Because I can’t have alcohol for the next year. I’ll have to give up belly dancing before long also.”
Geillis rolled her head toward Claire and pulled her sunglasses down. “What?”
Geillis’s eyes grew wide and she sat up looking at her best friend. “Are ye sayin ye got a bairn in there again?”
“Almost positive. That’s what happens when the love of your life shows up and you’re not on birth control. Please, not a word at home. I am telling Jamie tonight right after Brian goes to bed and before he goes home of course.”
“Thank heavens he can stay at yer house after tomorrow.”
Claire was on pins and needles through dinner while Geillis chatted on and on with Jamie and Brian. She needed to calm down and excused herself from dinner. Sitting alone on her bed, she remembered a sadness so deep and a country so foreign, it stole her reason to live. Now her life was so full of blessings it was hard to feel connected to that person anymore.
When Jamie came in, he pulled her into his arms and just hugged her.
“What is it, love? Are ye havin second thoughts?”
She shook her head and pulled him down to the bed to lay next to her. They could hear Brian and Geillis laughing in the kitchen and felt no need to rush.
Jamie watched her face, waiting. He felt his heart rate shoot up as her eyes locked on his.
“The three of us won’t be going to Florida next month. We are actually a family of four now.”
She pulled his hand to her abdomen as the tears were squeezing out the side of her eyes. She watched Jamie’s face go from confused to enlightened and his Adam’s apple bobbed in his throat as he tried to swallow.
“Is there …a bairn… comin …lass?” His voice was a croaked whisper like he was afraid to say it out loud.
Claire nodded her head and Jamie exhaled the breath he was holding as his smile grew. He kissed her long and hard followed by dozens of kisses on her face with I love you’s in between until Claire was panting for breath and laughing.
Jamie kissed his bride after a civil ceremony with Geillis standing for Claire and Brian standing as Jamie’s best man. He pressed his forehead against hers and felt she had gifted him with a second chance at life. He was so grateful for her strength to survive, her heart to forgive, and the joy they made together.
Five hundred and thirty-five miles north a prisoner held court while her underlings brought her food and cigarettes. Jenny smiled at her hard-won position in the unit and daydreamed about returning home after so many years.
But that is another story.
It is my privilege to write for this fandom. I love you guys for the encouraging comments and for reading.

Ghost, Pantera, Lamb of God, Cannibal Corpse, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath
Ghost: Guilty Pleasure: Bold of you to assume I would admit guilt!  …kidding.  80′s movies/media would probably be that.  Tons of offensive things, but I can still enjoy them while recognizing that they’re offensive.  C’mon… John Candy’s stuff is awesome.
Pantera: Outdoors - Yay or Nay: When I was younger?  I loved the outdoors - mainly because it got me out of the house/away from my parents, I’d wander my town on my bike with a couple of bucks in my pocket and just wander the woods, climb the valley and look down at it, play around pumping stations, play in creeks, climb anthracite shale piles, play in coal breakers.
Tumblr media
Ya know, shit like that.  I’d wander and think of stories and yeah… now?  It involves too much preparing, I got kids to chase, it’s Florida and uuuuuuugh humidity.  I enjoy nature, but a bit more from my window vs being in it.
Lamb of God: Favorite State: I’d say New York if it’s like, the Syracuse area, New York city is fun, but I always liked visiting my cousins and hanging out around there.  Second best, Florida if it’s like, Fort Lauderdale, it’s a place that doesn’t roll up the sidewalks after 6 pm and it was the first place I lived in on my own.
Cannibal Corpse: Creepiest Moment: I worked at a haunted movie theater back in college.  It was one of those art house places, I loved it, odd folks working there but anyway I told this story once on reddit so….
Had a whole history, the building was a storage for circus animals to winter in during the off season, burnt down, it got turned into a classical theater.  Got bought out and turned into a single screen movie theater, later remodeled into a four screen theater, which was its incarnation when I started working there.
Apparently two people had died there, one suicide, the other accident.  (Guy fell through the ceiling tiles into the seats)
You had the run of the mill stories, well so and so was closing and all of a sudden all the bathroom stall doors started opening and closing on their own violently.  One manager swore seeing a guy trying to hide between the last row of seats and the wall during the last walk, you couldn’t fit a hand into that space, no less a grown man.
You’d hear faint voices, stuff like that, the front theaters closest to the lobby were fine, but it was the back pair that were the issue because you would go in to start cleaning and immediately feel like someone was watching you.  So theater on the right, I’d call Joe and theater on the left I’d call Paul - morning Joe, just sweeping up, man this is a bad movie huh?  Stuff like that.  Joe was fine.  Just wanted a hello and the place would feel fine.
Paul was the asshole that’d leave the hair on the back of your neck up or have you trip on nothing at all, and you’d just get into the habit of telling Paul to behave out of instinct.  (It was habit anyway, I used to wander or take photographs in cemeteries back home and always had that superstition of ‘unless you want something following you home - be nice’)
Worst encounter I had was I was doing my usher thing, sweeping up after the last show of the night, I’m by myself in the theater, projection guy hasn’t made his way to the booth yet, manager was counting the till in the office, other closer is getting concessions stocked up front, so it’s still low lights after the credits, music is off and all of a sudden it feels like someone is creeping up behind me.
Don’t hear anything, still sweeping and - bam - I get a jolt like when someone grabs you from behind and digs their fingers hard into your ribs, like that Gotcha!  kinda thing.  I whip around expecting the other guy closing is screwing around - nothing.  No one is behind me.  I’m in the middle of a row, by myself.
Pretty much go ‘Fuck this’ drop my broom and bin and just sprinted out of the theater and up the hall to the lobby.  Was too freaked out to check for marks, but I remember it felt like fingers digging into my sides.I guess my telling him to behave was taken as a ‘okay smart-ass, let me give you a reason as to why you need to tell me to behave’ kinda thing, I refused to clean that theater solo, I’d only do it if the projection guy was in the booth or the other closer was with me.
Rammenstein: Languages: I’d like to improve my Spanish, but otherwise Japanese - I was born on a naval base in Okinawa and it would be nice to visit there someday.
Iron Maiden: School Subject: Art followed by English/Literature/Creative Writing whatever the hell you want to call it these days now.  I also really liked Shop (woodworking) and that class where you had to learn how to type on a typewriter and they stuck that box over your hands so you couldn’t see the keys and chicken peck.
Motley Crüe:  Biggest Romantic Moment: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.  Did I ever tell you about the time I got locked in the lobby of a slowly dying strip-mall with my boyfriend (the one that was on again off again that I dumped upon graduation in my ‘fuck this town - clean slate’) So imagine this, it’s winter.  I think it’s somewhere around Valentines or something, but we were on one of our dates - aka Walk around town because he never took me to his house, so we got something to eat and he said ‘hey lets go over to the mall’ its mostly dead at this time, all the stores have been going out of business and shutting down, so they kept these doors open because there was one determined nail business riding it out in the carcass.
Its evening, its low light, he gets his guitar, he’s still looking dead fucking handsome with his blonde hair and light blue eyes, he plays me couple of songs ‘Wish You Were Here’ by Pink Floyd, we make out, we snuggle… don’t go farther because I guess he never got the nerve even though at that time I was down for something that wasn’t screwed up (fuck you, dad) - we go to leave because I’m paranoid about the time and absolutely terrified of my mother being angry - we’re locked in.
So yeah, would’ve been romantic, instead was me freaking out and we had to use the payphone to call I think it was the police and the guy who maintained the property to let us out.  I still look back on the what-if fondly.
Black Sabbath:  Favorite Metal Band: I like Ghost currently, I always like Alice Cooper, I still like Deep Purple and if it’s like Grave Digger from 93?  Yes.  Not sure what I listen to that counts as metal vs rock vs punk vs alternative.

Anthrax Attacks Directed Against Public Officials Following 9/11 Had All the Markings of a False Flag Operation
Tumblr media
Aim Was to Sow Fear in the Public and Condition it to Support Wars of Aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Recent reporting shows both FBI and CIA suppressed evidence and blamed “foreign Muslim extremists” and then “a lone nut”—even though they knew the anthrax came from our own CIA-contracted military labs?
Will justice (too long delayed) soon expose and punish the real criminals whose deceit helped launch 20 years of criminal wars in the Middle East that murdered millions in order to funnel trillions into our rogue military-industrial-intelligence complex?
Would you believe this ABC News Story?
A man walks into an office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Florida.[1] It is spring in the year 2000. Speaking to a loan officer, Johnelle Bryant, the man explains that he has come from Egypt via Afghanistan. He wants to fulfill his dream of becoming a pilot.
More specifically, he wants to acquire a crop-duster with which he can dust American crops. His name—he is careful to spell it for her—is Atta. He wants a loan of $650,000 with which to buy a two-engine, six-passenger aircraft. He wants to take this substantial plane and modify it so that it can be used as a crop-duster.
Unlike traditional crop-dusters, which are small and agile, Atta’s creation would, he explains, be able to hold a very large chemical tank. He is an engineer, he says, and will find it easy to modify the plane as required. With its extra-capacity tank, he would be able to do all the spraying required in one flight, not needing to land to refill his tank as he would with an ordinary crop-duster.
Bryant is confused by this requirement. Why does he need to do all his spraying in one flight?
Bryant continues to question Atta. Pouring cold water on his evident hope of quick and easy money, she explains that there are procedures for handing out funds. Even in the best of circumstances he would not be able to walk out of her office with $650,000. He would need to make an application.
Atta is not pleased. He points out that he could go around Bryant’s desk, cut her throat, and take the money from her safe. Untroubled by this suggestion, Bryant assures Atta that there is not much money in the safe and, in any case, she knows karate.
Bryant continues to pour cold water on her visitor, explaining that he is ineligible for a loan because he is not a U.S. citizen.
This does not bring an end to the conversation. In fact, when Atta sees an aerial photograph of Washington, D.C., on Bryant’s wall he is delighted and begins throwing down cash in an offer to buy it. The representation of important monuments, including the view of the Pentagon from the air, inspires his admiration. He inquires of Bryant what the security is like at these monuments. He wants to visit these monuments and hopes he will be given access.
Atta next tells Bryant of his desire to visit the World Trade Center in New York City. What is the security like at the Trade Center? he asks.
Not quite finished, Atta tells Bryant of an organization, al-Qaeda, with which, he implies, he is associated. He adds that there is a wonderful man named Osama bin Laden, who “would someday be known as the world’s greatest leader.”
Bryant parts on good terms with the man from Egypt, referring him to a bank where he might get his loan.
Here endeth the tale.
The gentleman seeking the loan was, according to these sources, none other than the famous Mohamed Atta, the alleged ringleader of the 9/11 attacks who, we are told, piloted American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower. And the ABC News journalists who recounted this story were apparently serious and wanted us to believe their story.
I suggest that “Atta Seeks a Loan” is most definitely not a believable account of the actions of a leader entrusted with a top-secret, world-changing mission. It is either a yarn ungrounded in events or the recounting of a rehearsed drama in which the chief actor was an operative tasked with leaving a trail of monstrous breadcrumbs.
Atta’s exploits, as described by the mass media, include many similar incidents, of which the following are but samples:[2]
Atta Annoys Airport Employees
Atta Leaves Incriminating Evidence in his Luggage
Atta Is Bitten by a Dog
Atta Visits a Drugstore and Frightens an Employee
Atta Gets Pulled over for Driving without a License (and has a warrant for his arrest issued after he fails to show up for his court hearing)
Atta Abandons a Stalled Plane on the Runway
Atta Gets Drunk and Swears at a Restaurant Employee
A strange list of exploits for this secret operative. But let us return to the Atta who went to get a federal loan in Florida. In this tale Atta had a quite specific aim. He wanted to spray large amounts of a mystery substance on U.S. soil. He was apparently as intent on this as he was on his coming suicide mission at the Trade Center.
If we are to believe the mystery substance was anthrax—and, as I shall argue, this fits the story—the famous 9/11 “hijackers” (meaning, in this article, the alleged hijackers) would appear to be implicated not only in the 9/11 attacks but in the anthrax attacks that immediately followed the 9/11 attacks.
But before we get into these issues, a quick reminder of the main elements of the attacks may be helpful.
The Anthrax Attacks: A Refresher
Many people have only vague memories of the 2001 anthrax attacks. I do not think this is entirely due to the frailties of memory. These attacks have, due to the disastrous failure of the operation’s narrative, been ushered down the memory hole by the FBI.
Here are the key facts:
The first anthrax letters were mailed about a week after the 9/11 attacks. When the anthrax letters made their way to news agencies in those early days after 9/11, several people developed cutaneous anthrax, but it was not initially recognized as such.
Tumblr media
The first anthrax diagnosis was made on October 3, 2001, when Robert Stevens, who worked for American Media Inc., the publisher of The National Enquirer tabloid in Boca Raton, Florida, was discovered to have pulmonary anthrax. He died two days after the diagnosis. The last victim died on November 21. At least 22 people were infected with either cutaneous or pulmonary anthrax and five died.
The first wave of attacks, where letters were sent to media outlets, were followed in early October by a second wave of attacks. These second wave anthrax spores were more sophisticated and deadly in their preparation. This time two elected representatives were the targets: Democratic Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy.
The view that these were terrorist attacks by foreign enemies—the second blow, after 9/11, in a one-two punch against the United States—quickly became widespread. First, al-Qaeda was the chief suspect. Then Iraq was added to the suspect list. The Double Perpetrator hypothesis—Iraq supplied the anthrax to al-Qaeda foot soldiers—then began to make its way into a wide variety of news media.[3]
By the end of 2001, however, all stories of foreign terrorists had collapsed.[4] The nature of the spore preparations revealed the operation as an inside job—the spores came from one of three possible labs, all inside the U.S. and serving the military and the CIA.
The events were also a false-flag attack, since great care had been taken to deceptively pin the attacks on foreign Muslims. The FBI and the Office of Homeland Security, as it was then called, avoided both the expressions “inside job” and “false-flag attack,” but they could not avoid the realities to which these expressions refer.
Once the foreign Muslim story collapsed, the FBI got busy looking for a lone wolf perpetrator on whom to put the blame. The Bureau eventually settled on Dr. Bruce Ivins, an anthrax researcher at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland. Ivins died, allegedly by suicide, shortly before he was to be indicted.
The Failure of the FBI’s Hypothesis
In my 2014 book, The 2001 Anthrax Deception: The Case for a Domestic Conspiracy, I outlined the reasons the Ivins’ hypothesis was already widely held in contempt.[5]
I argued, with other researchers, that labs at Dugway Proving Ground and Battelle Memorial Institute were much better suspects than those at USAMRIID, and that Bruce Ivins lacked the resources, skill, time and motives that would have made him a serious suspect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There have been several developments since my book was written, two of which are especially important.
The first concerns Richard Lambert, who was for some years the Inspector in Charge of the FBI’s anthrax investigation. In 2015, after he had left the Bureau, Lambert brought a lawsuit against the FBI, claiming that the Bureau was retaliating against him—ruining his chances of employment—because of his criticism of the FBI and of its conduct of the anthrax case.[6]
Lambert said he had made repeated complaints that the Washington field office of the FBI was mismanaging the case. He said, moreover, that the case against Ivins was clearly weak. The circumstantial case against Ivins would not have resulted in a conviction had it gone to court.
He said that, “while Bruce Ivins may have been the anthrax mailer, there is a wealth of exculpatory evidence to the contrary which the FBI continues [2015] to conceal from Congress and the American people.”[7]
Strangely, these bombshell pronouncements did not rouse the mass media from their slumber.
The second development occurred in 2020, when the Lawyers’ Committee for 9/11 Inquiry sent a petition to the U.S. Congress.[8]
(Disclosure: I was at that time a member of the Anthrax Attacks Investigation Committee established by the Lawyers’ Committee to prepare the petition.)
The petition requests that:
“Congress should initiate its own focused inquiries into the post-9/11 anthrax attacks, and should establish as well a properly staffed and funded independent commission to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into these attacks which used biowarfare agents against Congress and the free press and involved the attempted assassination of two United States Senators.”
The Lawyers’ Committee argues, in 76 pages and with 69 exhibits, that the FBI’s case against Bruce Ivins entirely lacks merit and that the FBI is guilty not merely of incompetence but of obstruction, cover-up and deliberate deception of both Congress and American civil society.
The petition concentrates on the physical evidence relating to the anthrax spores; and the labs of Dugway and Battelle, associated with the U.S. military and the CIA, emerge from this research as chief suspects for the source of the anthrax attack.
The exhibits attached to the Petition include affidavits from several of Ivins’ colleagues. These go beyond character references. Several include specific reasons why these colleagues have never believed Ivins was the culprit.
In my view, the work of the Lawyers’ Committee lays the FBI’s case against Ivins in its grave.
And what are we to think of the FBI’s treatment of Bruce Ivins? The Bureau, aware of credible suspects, directed attention away from these suspects and onto an innocent man.
Aware of Ivins’ emotional vulnerability, the Bureau put extreme pressure on him, which resulted in his death. Then, after he died it publicly pronounced him the anthrax killer; said he had killed himself out of guilt; and closed the case. Ivins’ family was left in grief and shame to pick up the pieces of their lives.’
The Lawyers’ Committee notes that the domestic parties responsible for the anthrax attacks are guilty of treason. The Committee holds out the possibility that certain FBI officials may also be guilty of treason.
The Lone Nut
As Lisa Pease points out in her volume on the RFK assassination, when intelligence agencies plan complex operations they plan both for the success of these operations and for their possible flaws and failures.[9]’
There were plenty of failures in the 9/11 operation (such as the ill-timed destruction of Building 7), and there is evidence of rapid moves to conceal these failures. Although the anthrax operation failed in an even more thorough way than the 9/11 operation, those in control moved quickly and smoothly to repair the damage.
One of their first moves was to shift from a hypothesis of multiple attackers (multiple attackers were widely assumed prior to the collapse of the narrative) to a hypothesis of a single attacker.[10] The single attacker, or “lone wolf” hypothesis, is a common fallback position when an intelligence operation falters. Being alone, this wolf implicates others only weakly. He or she is ultimately uninteresting and raises few questions.
There is a subcategory of the lone wolf hypothesis that, for better or worse, is often called the “lone nut.” This narrative is extremely valuable for intelligence planners. A “lone nut”—a mentally unbalanced perpetrator—is even less interesting, in terms of connections and motives, than other types of lone wolves.
We may say that the lone nut’s story is “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing” (Macbeth). Since the tale signifies nothing, there is no need to look for rational motives, patterns, or links to groups and institutions.
The anthrax attacks had, during their early days, been blamed on insane (fanatical, suicidal, erratic) foreign Muslims. The shift was made, after the failure of this narrative, to an insane domestic individual. It was Ivins’ misfortune to have had mental health problems and to have been chosen for the role of perpetrator.
I have argued at length in my book that the anthrax operation was not carried out by a lone nut but by a rational group, and, without repeating that argument here, let me suggest we experimentally put the lone nut in storage and look for both connections and motive.
Restoring the Missing Connections
I will be content here to make one simple point: There was overlap in personnel in the 9/11 and anthrax operations. Because of this overlap it is clear that the two operations were planned by a single group.
Here are two sets of evidence of overlapping personnel:
(1) Locations[11]
There was a 71-mile strip along the coast of Florida where 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were active. Robert Stevens, the first anthrax victim, died in the middle of this strip.
If this fact were insignificant we would expect this to become clear as we examined the situation closely. We find the reverse. Connections come to light that cannot be accidental.
Anthrax victim Stevens was employed by a tabloid in Boca Raton called the Sun. The editor-in-chief of this tabloid, Mike Irish, had a wife, Gloria Irish, who was a real estate agent. In her professional capacity she had, in the summer of 2001, found apartments for two of the 9/11 hijackers, Marwan al-Shehhi and Hamza al-Ghamdi.
Tumblr media
Al-Shehhi is the man who supposedly piloted United Airlines 175 into the South Tower. He is said to have been a close friend of Mohamed Atta, his fellow martyr.
Gloria Irish had driven al-Shehhi and al-Ghamdi around town numerous times, and she remembered them well. Interviewed by the press, she said: “I mean, Marwan called me all the time.” She said they had a joking and friendly relationship.
But Gloria Irish had known anthrax victim Robert Stevens for 25 years and had helped him purchase a house. She was, therefore, the real estate agent of the first anthrax victim and of men alleged to have carried out the 9/11 attacks.
Indeed, the hijacker-real estate connection went beyond al-Shehhi and al-Ghamdi. The apartment Irish found for them became home to four of the hijackers.
The links between Gloria Irish, the hijackers, and the anthrax attacks were reported in the media in October 2001.
In Florida, The St. Petersburg Times noted, when speaking of the apartment Gloria Irish had found for the hijackers:
“The Delray apartment is central to a massive federal investigation into the terrorist attacks. Investigators trying to piece the puzzle together created a diagram that includes photos of the 19 hijackers who seized control of four airplanes on Sept. 11.”
The journalist continued: “It is clear that the apartment was a meeting ground for terrorists, authorities say. Now they must determine whether unit 1504 was also a hatching ground for the anthrax attacks.”
Reporting all of this openly was not only permitted at the time but, I believe, encouraged.
This is because the insiders responsible for the anthrax attacks were then assuming the attacks would successfully be pinned on al-Qaeda and Iraq. Revealing the anthrax attacks to have been perpetrated by the parties responsible for 9/11 was part of the plan.
We were all to have followed the trail of gigantic breadcrumbs and concluded that the connected sets of 2001 attacks were the result of a collaboration between al-Qaeda and its sponsor, Iraq.
Though few remember the Florida connections today, they have not gone away. And if we choose to ignore them we are extremely poor sleuths.
(2) Crop-dusters[12]
On September 23-24, 2001, all crop-duster planes in the U.S. were grounded.
Attorney General John Ashcroft explained to Congress that crop dusters could be used to “distribute chemical or biological weapons of mass destruction.” He added that the ubiquitous Mohamed Atta “had been compiling information about crop-dusting before the Sept. 11 attacks.”
But there was more. Groups of “Middle Eastern men” had apparently visited an airport in Belle Glade, Florida—“about an hour’s drive from Delray Beach, the coastal community where some of the alleged hijackers are believed to have lived”—to inspect and inquire about crop dusters.
Willie Lee, “general manager of South Florida Crop Care,” said the men described themselves as flight students. The apparent leader of the group was especially visible and aggressive. Employee James Lester identified this man as Mohamed Atta.
“I recognized him because he stayed on my feet all the time. I just about had to push him away from me,” Lester said.
Tumblr media
Restoring the Missing Motives
The lone nut may have no rational motive, but the group of insiders who planned the two-part psychological operation of the fall of 2001 were definitely rational, and many of their motives are easily discerned.
As just indicated, they wished to lay the foundation for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. More broadly, however, they wished to supersede (not entirely replace, but temporarily supersede) the Cold War with the Global War on Terror.
Remember that each of these global conflict formations, the Cold War and the Global War on Terror, was designed to force nations, and even individuals, to make a choice between two antithetical positions.
Each global conflict formation supported numerous specific hot wars, high military spending, a drastic diminution in the sophistication of human thinking, and the overall health of the war system with its primitive and outgrown moral foundations.
The chief method of recruiting people to the Global War on Terror was fear. The anthrax attacks contributed mightily, being used to evoke anxiety and panic.[17]
“Anthrax Anxiety at Home,” “Widespread Anxiety in New York,” “Anxiety Grows in South Florida,” “Anxiety over Bioterrorism Grows” are a few of the headlines of the time. Immediately after the death of Robert Stevens, The Washington Post reported that “jittery” citizens were “on their knees begging for drugs.”
By October 15 we were told that the “anthrax scare” was spreading around the world. By October 18 we were informed that “the fear of anthrax has become inescapable,” and shortly before the congressional votes on the USA PATRIOT Act, Americans were said to be suffering “primordial terror” in “a national anxiety attack.”
The 9/11 attacks were more dramatic but the anthrax attacks were more intimate. Anyone, anywhere in the country, could innocently pick up their daily mail and get pulmonary anthrax.
We should not assume, of course, that Americans, or people of the world in general, were really experiencing the level of fear reported by the media. Who knows? What is obvious is that such fear as existed was to a great extent the result of inflammatory media coverage.
This fear was the soil in which Islamophobia was cultivated. If the false narratives of the fall of 2001, as well as the spread of fear by the mass media, are left unmentioned, the term “Islamophobia” is no more than a distraction.
Although the Global War on Terror was sketched broadly enough to include non-Muslim individuals and nations when necessary (North Korea was the main case), it was aimed chiefly at Muslims.
The fear evoked in the fall of 2001 was a fear of Islam and the “craziness” or “nuttiness” that supposedly led Muslims to unleash violence on the United States.
This was a deliberate propaganda campaign fueled by a two-part psychological operation that initiated what may be called the Crazy Muslim franchise, a narrative series that will continue as long as there is an interested audience and profits to be made.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak explained it all on BBC television about 11:28 AM on 9/11, shortly after the attacks in new York and Washington:[18]
“The world will not be the same from today on. It’s an attack against our whole civilization … I believe that this is the time to deploy a globally concerted effort led by the United States, the UK, Europe and Russia against all sources of terror.”
Notwithstanding the complete absence of evidence, Barak, repeatedly given air time by the BBC during the day, did not hesitate to name specific nations (Iran, Iraq, and so on) as targets of the new “globally concerted effort.”
The use of fear in such psychological operations is typically meant to support a powerful clenching of the in-group, where the group that feels attacked draws together in tight formation to defend itself against the dangerous Other.
And this clenching results not merely in striking out against the alleged foe but squeezing out domestic civil rights. Freedom to think for oneself, to debate, to dissent is in these cases increasingly regarded with suspicion, and legislation is passed by intimidated legislatures that cast dissenters into the outer darkness.
These processes, starkly visible in the medical martial law forced on the world as I write these lines, were prefigured in the 2001 two-part operation.
The attack on Congress in the anthrax attacks, an obvious part of the plan to discipline U.S. civil society and its representatives, is well known, but I can add some flesh to the bones that are our usual fare.[19]
By the time anthrax fears began spreading in the U.S., Congress was already reeling from the 9/11 attacks. Concrete barriers blocked road access to Congress, while senators and representatives were discouraged from wearing congressional pins or displaying distinctive license plates lest their identities be known and they become targets.
But the possibility remained that members of Congress would recover their senses and begin to resist the legislation that had been placed before them—the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, or USA PATRIOT Act. Only if Congress remained frightened and intimidated would it remain obedient to those in the Executive branch fighting for rapid passage of the Act.
During the intense days of September 2001, Attorney General Ashcroft repeatedly harangued the Democrats in the Senate to pass the USA PATRIOT Act quickly.
As Daschle later put it, Ashcroft “attacked Democrats for delaying passage of this bill. In this climate of anxiety the attorney general was implicitly suggesting that further attacks might not be prevented if Democrats didn’t stop delaying.”
The Republicans had a generous majority in the House that would do the Executive’s bidding and pass the bill but, in the Senate the Democrats had a majority of one. A slim majority, but potentially enough to block the new bill.
Patrick Leahy, a Democratic senator, was Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, a key body in the process of considering and approving the USA PATRIOT Act. While Leahy was generally supportive of the bill, he drew the line on October 2: He insisted he would not support the bill without changes.
Daschle was Senate Majority Leader and was the most powerful Democrat in the Senate. His support of the bill was essential to its passage. Although he had signaled in various ways his indignation at the 9/11 attacks and had offered the President his support, he was not ready to give Bush carte blanche either to attack any nation he wished or to bully the USA PATRIOT Act through Congress.
While he had been willing to introduce the resolution on the use of force that gave the President legal cover for war (September 14, 2001), Daschle did so only after toning down the astonishingly imperial version of the resolution written by the White House.
On October 2 he supported Leahy in resisting immediate passage of the new USA PATRIOT bill.
But Vice President Cheney had chosen October 5 as the date by which he wanted the bill passed. Due to the stubbornness of these two Democratic senators, Cheney’s schedule was now unachievable.
Some time between October 6 and 8, two anthrax letters were put in the mail. They were addressed to Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy.
The event was embellished with a spectacular case of mass media precognition. On October 15, Roll Call, a Washington newspaper that reported Capitol Hill news, headlined its issue with:
“HILL BRACES FOR ANTHRAX THREAT.”
Right on schedule, later that day Grant Leslie, an intern of Senator Tom Daschle, opened a letter to find a hand-printed threat accompanied by shockingly aerosolized anthrax spores. The spores floated out of the envelope, contaminating not just Leslie but the entire Hart Senate Office Building, which had to be closed and sanitized.
Here is the text of the letter:[20]
I hold that this text, considered with the text sent to Tom Brokaw, is one of the most important documents of the 21th century. (My assertion is based on an interpretation of the text that takes into account the spores that accompanied the text as well as the 9/11 attacks to which the text of the letter makes a clear reference.)
The Daschle and Brokaw letters indicate that their implied authors:
(1) are identical with, or related to, the crew responsible for the 9/11 attacks (“09-11-01” at the top of the letter)
(2) are bent on homicide (“you die now”)
(3) are, because of their 9/11 connection, also prepared to commit suicide
(4) are crude (the printing) and stupid (in the Brokaw letter “penicillin” is spelled wrong, indicating the authors are not bright enough to use a dictionary or spell-check.)
(5) are Muslim (“Allah is Great”)
(6) regard the United States and Israel as of comparable importance and as forming a unified target (“Death to America. Death to Israel.”)
(7) are determined to achieve their goals through fear (“Are you afraid?”)
(8) are taunting the U.S. Congress as powerless (“You can not stop us”)
(9) are prepared to use a weapon of mass destruction on the U.S. Congress (the spores are weaponized and the letters are addressed to Senators Daschle and Leahy).
(10) are in a position to access some of the most sophisticated weaponized anthrax ever seen, presumably from their state sponsor (this we conclude from an analysis of the spores).
This is a message that loses none of its importance when we realize that its real authors, who are entirely different from its implied authors, are domestic groups within the U.S. Military-Industrial-Intelligence-Complex, possibly assisted by counterparts in one or more allied countries.
When we are awake to the deception practiced here, we can read these letters as a charter of the Global War on Terror spelled out in childish block printing.
The attacks on Congress were, of course, successful. Congress was disciplined and meekly passed the Act.

Tumblr media
After the final performance, you’d spent an hour talking with random guests, shying away from the praise you and the company were receiving.
There were a few people who had recognized Jungkook and wanted information on their involvement in your studio.
“Oh, there is no involvement. Jungkook was just helping me out since Michael got injured.  They don’t dance at the studio or anything like that.” you’d told one woman who seemed completely dejected by it.
Once everyone had left and the students had helped you take down any decorations and equipment that had been set up, it only left yourself, Clara, and the guys.
“Hey hun, want me to take Lily for the night?” Clara offered.
“Nope. We have plans tonight.” you smiled.
“Miss Clara, right?” Yoongi asked, verifying her name.
“It’s just Clara, but yes?” she asked.
“We’re treating Y/n and Lilybug to dinner and ice cream. Would you like to join us?” he asked.
“Are you sure?” she asked, confirming with everyone else.
“Of course. We’d love for you to join us.” Namjoon said.
And that’s how you found yourself at dinner with everyone you considered to be family.
“So did you like it?” Lily asked over dinner.
“It was really good!” Jin complimented her.
“Okay, while we’re on the subject, Lily let’s talk about your flip.” you said.
“Oh momma, do we have to?” she asked, whining.
“If you want ice cream then yes. Yes we do.” you said.
“Lily, talk to her! She might not let anyone get ice cream if you don’t talk about it!” Jin reasoned.
“Okay, for Jin and ice cream I’ll talk about it. Momma, I did a flip.”
You could hear snickers from around the table.
“Do you know how scared I was watching you do that? You haven’t even started doing flips yet and you did one today.” you said.
“But I have been doing flips momma! What do you think I do when you’re a bum and won’t get out of bed in the morning?” she asked.
“You mean to tell me instead of coming and waking momma up, you’re in your room doing flips?” you asked.
“Oh man! I told myself I wasn’t gonna tell you that!” Lily said, smacking herself on the head.
“From now on let’s practice flips together. Momma will show you how to do them safely, okay?”
“Sounds good momma.” Lily said, going back to her dinner.
“Do you promise? I was scared up there watching you too.” You heard Yoongi say to Lily.  Clara sat to your right, Yoongi to your left. You’d wanted to sit by Lily, but as soon as Jin sat down, she plopped down next to him, demanding Yoongi sit on her other side.
“Suga! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you. I pinky promise that I will only do flips with momma from now on!” she said, sticking her pinky out to Yoongi.
You watched as he wrapped his pinky around hers.
“Great, I’ve been replaced.” you said as everyone was gushing over soft Yoongi.
“How can Suga replace you momma? He’s a boy. Mom’s are girls, dad’s are boys.” she said.
Your line of sight went directly to Yoongi as you saw a sharp blush creep up his face and he put his head down to hide it.
That’s a hell of a thing to throw out at dinner kid. You thought to yourself.
While waiting for dessert, you looked around the table fondly.
Clara and Jin were talking about cooking.  The other guys were all talking amongst themselves.  But what really caught your eye was Yoongi quietly coloring with Lily, laughing and smiling at whatever she was saying.
You weren’t sure where life was going to take you, or this strangely built family you’d found yourself part of, but you knew you always wanted to see Lily as happy as she was right now.
“Thank you guys very much for dinner. I had a lot of fun getting to know more about you guys. If you’re ever available, I’d love to have you guys over for dinner sometime before the move.” Clara said.
“What move?” Lily asked, ears perked to new information.
You and Clara shared looks of shock.  Neither of you had gotten around to telling Lily yet about Clara and her husband moving.  You ‘d wanted to wait until after the showcase in case she didn’t handle it well.
“Well baby, Miss Clara and her husband are going to be moving to Florida.”
“Is that far away?” she asked, still not understanding.  You noticed the guys all hung back, but hadn’t left yet.
“Yeah, baby it is. If we wanted to go see her we’d have to fly or drive for a couple days.”
“But why?” Lily asked, bottom lip trembling slightly.
“It’s for work honey. I’m so sorry we didn’t tell you yet. We still have some time together though.” Clara said, trying to ease the pain of the small child.
“Is it because you don’t love me anymore? Was I bad?” she asked, tears now pooled in her eyes.
You watched with teary eyes as Clara bent down to take Lily in her arms.
“Oh honey, of course it’s not that. I love you and your momma so much.  If we had another choice that would let us stay here with you, I’d stay forever. I promise I’ll come and visit you as much as I can and I’ll treat you and your momma to a trip to Florida once we’re settled.” By the time Clara had finished speaking, all three of you were crying.
Yoongi was conflicted as he stood there watching you and Lily cry. He wanted to take you into his arms and take any pain away that he could, for the both of you. But he hesitated.
The hesitation didn’t last long when he watched you put your hand over your mouth to silence a sob that was threatening to escape.
He walked swiftly up to you and placed his hand into your free one.  You jumped slightly at the contact, but didn’t take your eyes off your crying daughter.
It took twenty minutes before you were able to separate Lily and Clara.  In that time, Yoongi stook quietly by your side, hand still clasped with yours.
“Want help getting Lily home?” Yoongi asked you.
“How will you get back to the hotel?” you asked.
“I’ll just take a taxi” he said.
“If you want to, I’d appreciate that.” you already knew it was going to be a fight getting Lily settled in to bed.  You weren’t sure why you took Yoongi up on his offer, but you found yourself saying yes anyway.
You watched as Yoongi went over to the guys.  Once he was done talking, they all came over and said quiet goodbyes to everyone before taking off without Yoongi.
“Lily honey, let’s head home.” you said, taking her from Clara’s arms.
“I’m so mad at you momma.” she said laying her head on your shoulder, facing away from you.
The ride home was quiet, but you knew Lily would talk once you got into the apartment.
“You said you don’t lie to me momma. You said we can’t tell lies.” Lily said when you walked into the apartment.
“Lilybug, we didn’t lie. We just didn’t tell you yet.” you weakly defended.
“You said that’s the same as a lie!”
“I know. I’m sorry we lied to you. It was wrong.” you said, trying not to cry again. You rarely fought with Lily, but when you did it hurt really bad.
“I’m tired momma. I want to go to bed.” she said, getting her pajamas out.
Sometimes you thought Lily acted much older than her nearly 5 years. You felt yourself was to blame for that.
You sat down and read Lily her bedtime story, as Yoongi stood in the doorway watching.  Her fit must have made her tired because she was asleep before the fifth page.
“Are you okay?” Yoongi asked as you went into the living room.
“No. It’s all my fault she’s so upset.” you said, sitting hard on the couch.
Yoongi sat down right next to you and held your hand in his again.
“She doesn’t understand why right now, but maybe she will someday.” he reasoned.
“It’s more than that Yoongi. As I was talking to her tonight I noticed that she talks to me like an adult. She seemed so much older in that moment and it broke my heart.” you said, tears coming for the third time tonight.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s always been Lily and I. We lived with my aunt for a while, but Lily doesn’t remember her. Now there’s Clara. I’ve put my daughter through so much at such a young age and I feel like such a shitty person. We’ve moved across the country, and settled here which was hard for her. Then we found Miss Clara, but she’s leaving. And there’s a possibility that I’ll lose the studio and it’s hard.  It’s hard for me, it’s hard for her, and I feel like I’m drowning sometimes. I’m drowning and I’m failing and I hate that I made her feel like this.”  Once you started, you didn’t know when to stop.
Yoongi was at a loss for words.  He’d never seen you so shaken and vulnerable before.  Not even when you were talking about the bad time you’d had when Lily was born and the year that followed.
He wrapped his arm around your shoulders and gently pulled you towards him, hugging you to his side.
“I’m sorry I don’t have the right words for you right now. I wish I could tell you that everything is fine, but I know that might not be true.  But what I can tell you is that you’re not failing at being a mother. I’ve seen you with Lily enough to know that everything you do, you do for your daughter.  The late nights, the early mornings, the stress. You do it all to have a good life for your daughter.  You may be losing Clara, but no one can ever take the title of Lily’s mom from you. And you’re the only one that could do it.  And as for Lily. What you made her into was a strong little girl who can weather tough times.  She’s sarcastic and smart and absolutely the best little girl I’ve met in my life.”
Yoongi was surprised when you cried even harder.  He had meant to cheer you up, take some of your pain away.
“What else is there?” he asked you kindly.
“What am I going to do when you leave too?”

fic commentary ask
@tenyaiida sent in an ask about this fic commentary prompt going around for one of my Yuri on Ice fics- Yuri, the Vampire Slayer. The selected portion is from the 4th (and currently last) chapter. Here’s my thoroughly nerdy commentary. :) My thoughts are in bold since the fic uses italics to format specific lines, and I wanted to distinguish between the two.
First, thank you for the ask! And for choosing this fic! It makes me ridiculously happy as I love this story so much (even if I have hit an extended pause on it to write another YoI fic). Buffy was my first online fandom, and I thoroughly enjoyed mashing that world with the characters from Yuri on Ice. In the story, Yuri is the Slayer. He’s reeling from the death of his first Watcher, Yakov. He’s shutting out his best friend, Otabek, because 01) Yakov told him that the best way to keep his loved ones safe is to keep them in the dark about slaying and 02) he’s afraid that Otabek, like Yakov, will die if he’s involved in that world. Yuri’s trying to shut out his half-brother, Viktor, who left his place as principal dancer at the Bolshoi Ballet to come care for Yuri after their mother died. Into all of this walks Yuuri Katsuki, who proclaims himself to be Yuri’s new Watcher. The Council have sent a couple other Watchers to replace Yakov, but neither of them lasted more than 10 minutes in Yuri’s surly company. When this scene occurs, Yuuri has had, like the other Watcher’s, his disastrous first meeting, but with Viktor’s help, he was able to try again, and this scene is a continuation of that second attempt when Yuuri tries to bond with Yuri.
“I told Viktor you needed someone you could trust. Someone that you felt supported you and had your back. If me and Viktor, if that, if we… then I won’t. And he won’t either. That’s not- This is more important.”
Yuri’s one point of view in the story. Viktor is the other. He’s training himself to be a witch so that he can help Yuri with his slaying, and he’s formed a connection, developed an attraction to Yuuri, which Yuri has noticed and is not pleased about. So here, Yuuri is offering to not pursue a relationship with Viktor, stating that he came to St. Petersburg for Yuri to train him, rather than coming for Viktor.
You are more important goes unsaid, but Yuri hears it anyway. He hears it and he sees, not just Yuuri before him, but Viktor too, standing in the middle of the living room, surrounded by boxes and boxes from Moscow, Viktor’s entire life packed up and shipped out to be stored away in a dusty basement in Florida. But all Viktor had done when Yuri growled an objection had been to shrug and say it didn’t matter, that it wasn’t important. But it was. It mattered. Everything Viktor accomplished, the awards, the career, the fame and recognition, all gone, all sacrificed, and all for Yuri.
And Yuri hated it. Hated that his father didn’t give a shit about him. He hated that his mother died. He hated that Viktor had to give up everything because of it. He hated that Viktor was now saddled with Yuri, with Slaying, with death and blood and demons and devils, and the knowledge that Yuri will, someday, because it was his fate, one Slayer and the next one and the next, die.
He doesn’t hate you, Viktor.
No, Yuri doesn’t hate Viktor.
He hates everything else.
This is the emotional climax for Yuri for this first half of the story. He’s been angry and surly at Viktor from the start of the story. Viktor expressed to Yuuri in a prior chapter that he thinks Yuri hates him; he feels he’s failing as a caretaker, that he’s a poor replacement for their mother and that Yuri hates him for it. Here, Yuuri’s offer to stop a relationship with Viktor before it even begins gets Yuri to think about everything else Viktor has sacrificed for him, leading to this revelation: that he doesn’t hate Viktor, he hates what Viktor’s life has become because of him. (The irony, of course, is that Viktor doesn’t miss any of the things that Yuri lists as important (the awards, the career, etc.).)
I didn’t know how to change it. Me, anything.
Yuri closes his eyes. He grits his teeth and breathes in.
This is Yuri remembering something Yuuri said in a prior chapter. I can’t resist repeating lines like this. I did it once in a massive MCU story (Remembrance of Things Past), but I’ve largely resisted it since then. I felt it was right for this story which is so much about dealing with past trauma. Yuuri had been telling Yuri and Viktor about his own past trauma, how powerless he felt to change anything for the better, which resulted in dire consequences. I LOVE Yuuri and Yuri brotp. It’s one of the reasons why I wrote this story. I really wanted Yuri to be able to learn from Yuuri, and this is him starting to do that. He’s getting know if he doesn’t change, if he doesn’t let people in, he’ll suffer the same fate that Yuuri did (and might not be able to recover from it the same way Yuuri has).
I have to deal with it myself.
That’s not what Viktor said.
This is Yuri recalling his last conversation with Otabek. Otabek confronted Yuri about lying to him about what’s going on in his life. Yuri tried to brush him off, to say that he had to deal with his issues by himself, but Otabek responds with this: that Viktor told him that wasn’t true, that Yuri thought he had to do it alone since that was what Yakov told him, but that he doesn’t. I love Otabek and Yuri’s friendship on the show. I think it’s so important to Yuri’s development, and I wanted to explore that here- Yuri letting himself trust and care about others.
No, that’s not what Viktor said. That’s never what Viktor said, Viktor always pushing, always trying, but when had been the last time he’d seen Viktor smile? Not in the last few years. Maybe in Moscow when he’d visited the summer before high school, but even then his smile had been shaded, weighed down by his break-up with that goddamn shithead Mikhail. So before, when he and Yuri and their mother had all been together in New York, when he’d received his offer to be made principal at the Bolshoi.
Five years.
But he’d nearly smiled, he’d wanted to, that afternoon when he looked at Katsuki.
Here’s the emotional climax, Yuri realizing that Viktor, who’s been pushing Yuri to talk to him and to Otabek and to have a life beyond Slaying, has not done the same, that he’s sort of shut down in the past five years, and that Yuuri could be someone to help both him and Viktor deal with their issues.
I didn’t know how to change it. Me, anything.
Like he taught you. Because I know he did.
This is something that Yuuri said to Yuri in a prior chapter. He was referencing Yakov and Yakov’s training, which was good in some ways but not in others, which Yuri has come to realize through Yuuri and his experiences. So the line now becomes about Yuuri and how he’s teaching Yuri what to do.
Yuri breathes out and opens his eyes.
It’s okay to have people care about you.
And this is what Yuuri has tried to teach him these past few chapters, that being alone will only lead to an awful end (death), and that Yuri should learn from Yuuri’s experiences. He’s been able to work with others and accomplish amazing things (which Yuri has just heard about), and now Yuri’s been pushed to the point by him and Otabek and Viktor where he’s willing to try the same.
“I thought you said we needed more in our lives than fighting?”
Yuuri blinks at him, clearly thrown. “I- Uh, yeah, I did. But-”
Yuri crosses his arms over his chest and cocks a brow. “But what? You’re not going to follow your own advice? That’s a pretty shit example to set, don’t you think? I don’t want a hypocrite for my Watcher.”
He does it in his own Yuri way, of course. He can’t come right out and talk about tiny, delicate feelings, so he has to express his acceptance of Yuuri and Viktor in as grumpy and combative a way as possible. He’s also expressing his acceptance of Yuuri as his new Watcher, finally accepting that Yuuri does have stuff to teach him, that he’s the best equipped to because he does understand what Yuri’s been going through.
And that’s it! Thank you so much for sending in the ask! I hope you enjoyed reading my likely too long fic commentary. :D

I just recently got new insurance, I didn't know whether or not I should put my speeding ticket on the quote since it was my first one and the cop just told me to just come to court and that they would give me driving school. So I decided to put it on the quote because I don't wanna get pinned for insurance fraud or something, I'm new to this whole insurance thing (just got off my parents) so I played it safe. Now that I have been to court and gotten driving school should I call up the insurance company and let them know what happened? Would it lower my rates if I did that? Or does it even matter? If I can save a few bucks I'll do it, but I don't want to waste my time and theirs. tl;dr----- got a speeding ticket, put it on my insurance quote- got off with driving school- how should I proceed? I have a job where my health insurance premiums as well as my spouse's are covered without cost to me. However, my wife is insurured through her work as well because she is requiried to be insured under her employers plan even though she is already covered under mine. She chose an HMO because it was the least cost to us because we would want to use my insurance (PPO) as the main provider, that way she can choose her own doctors. She recently went to the doctor using my plan, but now they will not cover the visit because of duplicate coverage. Can someone give me advice as to how I can rectify this situation. We would prefer not to even use the HMO because it is expensive and restrictive, but the PPO will not cover because of the HMO coverage""

2.5% tax penalty if you don't have health insurance?
There is a section on page 297 of the health care bill... which you can read here: http://docs.house.gov/rules/health/111_ahcaa.pdf It states plainly that any individual who does not have acceptable health insurance during any part of the year will be imposed a tax equal to 2.5% of their yearly adjusted gross income. I need health insurance, like I know many people do. I have cancer, but I guess that's not considered a disabilty because I was turned down. My job does not pay for medical. They run to the doctor every two months for very trivial things/ I know of several who abuse the veterans hospital from runny noses to a simple headache, plus they are paid monthly for a disabilty they don't have. They just don't want to work. I think married couples should only be able to use one insurance policy, and these others should be only allowed to go to the doctor a few times a year. If they are an alcoholic send them to AA.""
Auto insurance with eSurance. Are they good?
I received very good quote from eSurance on my 2 vehicles. My friends told me that sometimes insurance companies (especially those less expensive) can drop their clients after claim, which results in higher rate later on. Does anybody have any experiance with Esurance and their claim department. I can save a lot of money by switching to Esurance but if that's going to get me in trouble I'd rather stay with my currant provider and pay them more. Anybody experianced droping by the auto insurance company? Esurance have a lot of commercials on TV and radio but does that make them good? Any suggestions? Please give me any answers. Thank you!""

My wife just got selected for a job in NC with our local paid EMS. They selected her but said there insurance company wouldn't cover her because of a PJC from 2003. PJC's go away every 3 years its been 4. Insurace companys cant use PJC's to raise rates and PJC are off your driving record at the DMV and insurance aftrer 3 years. So can they legally deny her coverage for that? Its on her permanent record like any one else with a PJC but its not a moving violation! Its just there for records thats it. Why does my car insurance quotes do this.....?
when I first passed my test 3 years ago at age 17 my insurance was almost 6000 for third party only on a ford fiesta. this was the rough price for this make/model on all insurance companies i got a quote from. Two weeks ago i did a quote for a fiesta hoping its reduced in price (three years later, havent drove since i passed my test ) and third party only was roughly 2000 with all companies i tried and FULLY COMP has been roughly 900-1000 with all companies i have recently tried. so why is fully comp alot more cheaper than third party only? I Have tried quotes with lots of different companies and gocompare and they all came up really cheap. However, today I done another quote on a fiesta I was hoping to buy today, and the quotes have come up at between 1800 and 3000. All details have always been the same- all quotes i have done have been on a 1.2 ford fiesta. so firstly why is FULLY COMP cheaper than THIRD PARY and why has my insrunce suddenly gone from cheap to expensive within the last few days? thanks""

Do most parents pay for their children's car insurance?
Ok, don't rant at me, I'm asking this question innocently. Basically, I want to know if it's common for parents to pay for their children's car insurance (I'm thinking of those 17, 18, 19, etc. who just passed their test and haven't moved out), or if the child is usually made to pay it themselves? I don't know if part time jobs will cover the cost or what (especially as I imagine they will usually pay for their own petrol), but 3000 a year does seem quite a bit for a teenager to be able to afford. And seems like more and more youngsters are getting cars... I don't think I would expect my parents to pay for mine when I pass my test, but then again I don't know how I'd be able to afford it myself either... So I'm looking for some insight on the topic.""

Can't afford Health Insurance...?
I'm looking for advice...and hopefully someone to tell me that I'm not screwed. My boss graciously offered to find group insurance for all of her employees and she is willing to pay 50% of the premiums. The problem is that she went with the most expensive plan on the market (that I've seen) and I simply can't afford it. The premium is $340 a month, so I'd be paying $170 which isn't bad...but the copays are at least +20% on everything and doctor visits range from $35 to $55 a visit, so I wouldn't be able to afford to use my health coverage often. It also doesn't include dental, which is what I really wanted/needed. I am 21 years old (and all of my coworkers are in their 20s), so I don't really understand why the payments are so high. I'm right in the midst of paying off student loans, I don't get paid very much, and I was hoping to start saving money to purchase a car and be able to go back to school. I was going to use my income tax return as a down payment on a car, but if I opt out of healthcare this year at least a fourth of that return will be taken as the fine imposed to coerce people to sign up for the Affordable Care Act. I seriously don't know what to do. Neither of my parents have health insurance, so I can't be tacked onto their coverage. I was planning on telling my boss to opt me out, but she went ahead and signed me up so I'm looking at getting $170 taken out of my check right before Christmas either way. I actually found out how much it was after she signed me up...I don't even know how she did that without confirming everything with me. Am I completely screwed? What would you do?""

Should I really get insurance for my car?
I am thinking about getting a cheaper and older car just for going to and from work. Should I really get insurance for it?
What cars are best to have for the lowest insurance?
I am 21, and I am rather sick of catching the bus everywhere lol, especially this past winter. I know my insurance is going to be high, It's also pretty hard to keep a job since many buses stop running around 9pm. My friend told me any time after May is a good time to buy a car because most people already got their refunds. I am willing to take out a loan if a new/newer car is the best to go with since I have pretty decent credit (724 Experian). If I have a car I could work and go to school more easily. What year, make, model, etc. I also want to save on gas. For the new cars, I would like the Chevy Volt, the Ford Fiesta, Honda Civic (hybrid if possible), or the toyota prius (hybrid maybe). For used, I am not sure since I don't know what year to look in, but I was looking at the Honda civic, toyota prius, and the mazda mazda6. I also don't know if foreign cars would raise the premium. I read that if you are getting a car around 10 years old, only buy honda or toyota cars. Also should I look into mechanical breakdown insurance and/or should I get a warranty for the car along with the auto insurance? How much do they cost? Thanks.""
Why do good drivers get better car insurance rates than bad drivers?
It's not fair. Some people are genetically predisposed to be bad drivers or just don't care. Why should they be charged more than drivers who do not participate in risky behavior?

Most insurance companies use credit information to determine the rate they give you. Therefore having bad credit can cause you to pay a higher premium. Which companies do not use credit information to determine your rate?

Book Blitz: Grand Finale: Protecting the Single Mom by Catherine Lanigan
On Tour with Prism Book Tours.
Book Tour Grand Finale for
Protecting the Single Mom
By Catherine Lanigan
We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out... Launch - The Dangerous Tour
Hi, and welcome to my Prism Tour for “Protecting the Single Mom”. I’ll bet you’re wondering why I chose this tour title for a Heartwarming story in little old sweet small town Indian Lake, right? Right off the bat, let me tell you that in the real world, there are a lot of dangers, but falling in love, now that’s a real risk. How many people get married for all the wrong reasons? Just check the divorce statistics. In my opinion, love is too often discarded and other “sensible choices” enter the picture. Risking your heart for a lifetime with another person? It’s not practical. It’s nonsensical and yet, we all dream of that one true love. Our soul mate. Our adored one that we will spend all of this lifetime sharing, caring and creating, sigh, a family.
Thoughts of a Blonde - Review
"We are quickly drawn in to the story of a woman on the run who thought she could finally relax and enjoy life again … only to have her maniac of an ex show back up to terrorize her. A cast of great characters, many of whom we’ve gotten to know in past books in the series, makes a solid story."
Katie's Clean Book Collection - The Dangerous Life of a Drug Task Detective
There’s not a city, town or hamlet in the United States that are not affected by illegal drug sales, drug addiction, overdoses and drug related deaths. For all the families struggling with this horror, and mine is no exception, drug addiction of a loved one can be overwhelming, frightening and yes, dangerous.
Rockin' Book Reviews - Review
"I really like this story. I like the suspense in it and thought the characters were well-developed and fun to follow. . . . It was a great story and I would recommend it to other readers."
Book Lover in Florida - Excerpt
Every protective bone in Trent’s body ached for Cate. Of all the calls, all the assignments he’d been given over the years, this one reverberated inside him like church bells on a summer morning. It didn’t take a genius to understand that his reaction was all about the woman. Not that she was defenseless, but that she’d been so strong for years. Like a stalwart angel against all odds, she’d chosen to obliterate her old life and don a new one.
Rainy Day Reviews - Review
"This was a "damsel in distress" type book where the damsel is no damsel but does need help because she is in distress. But she is trying her very best to keep things orderly and clean. This author was a new for me, but after reading this book, I really enjoyed her writing so I'll be reading more of her books! It was suspenseful, heroic, intense, and loving. What a great mix!"
Zerina Blossom's Books - Excerpt
Cate took a sip and raised an eyebrow. “This is delicious. Really good.”
“Thanks.” Trent wondered if he was blushing. He’d couldn’t remember blushing before, but suddenly his cheeks felt hot. And the heat wasn’t from the cocoa.
Hearts & Scribbles - The Dangerous Life of Being on the Run - Cate
For quite some time, I’ve been playing with the idea of Cate Sullivan not really being Cate Sullivan. I introduced her as the realtor in the very first book, LOVE SHADOWS, in this series. She was a friend to Luke Bosworth when his wife was alive and then she helped sell his house after her death. She was empathetic and related well to his children.
Harlie's Books - Review
"Oh my gosh. Stop what you are doing now and buy this book. Don’t put it on the TBR pile. Pour yourself a glass of wine, or ice tea, get comfy and spend a couple of hours in complete bliss with Trent, Cate, and Danny. You will thank me later and you’re welcome. Of course, since this is my first book in the series, I need to go and get Sophie’s and Katia’s books. Yes, this book is that good that I want to read the other books. I’m a series reader. Yes, I admit it. And even though, Ms. Lanigan does a great job of letting us know about the other characters in town, I really want to read their stories, too."
Reading Is My SuperPower - Review
"Protecting the Single Mom is Catherine Lanigan at her best! The characters are dimensional and their stories are both heartbreaking and inspiring. Bits of humor provide a break in the suspense-driven tension, and a sweet-but-sizzling romance adds its own sort of tension to the mix. Fans of the series will enjoy visiting with familiar faces (of which Mrs. Beabots continues to be my favorite and the most intriguing), but this book can easily be read as a stand alone too."
Mel's Shelves - Review
"This is the seventh book in this series and only the third one I've read. It stands well on its own. There are characters from the other books that are mentioned and it was fun to catch up with the ones I knew. I enjoyed the pacing and the blend of romance, action, danger, and character development. This is a great read for fans of clean, contemporary romantic suspense!"
Kati's Bookaholic Rambling Reviews - The Danger of Secrets - Trent
It was then that I saw first-hand this very human and male response to PTSD.
He’d tried everything to get help and he felt he had been helped. But after all these years, he was still haunted by the death of his buddies. The struggle these men and women must go through is monumental. It is not the “stuff” of books that I use just to make a story interesting. This is real life. And it is tragic.
underneath the covers - Excerpt
“About what?” She took a small step toward him. Could anyone be this beautiful? No makeup, her hair rumpled from the cap.
Trent felt as if he’d walked into a dream.
“The rowing. You were beautiful. I mean, er, it was beautiful to watch you…all…out there.”
She chuckled lightly—a tinkling sound carried on the wind.
Wishful Endings - The Danger of Risking Your Heart
The inherent risk of falling in love is why I adore romances, the ones I write and the one’s I gobble up by the dozens every month. I listen to sad, torchy “cowboy” songs about breakups and fear, and that final leap of faith that the lovers blindly make.
The Silver Dagger Scriptorium - The Danger of A Secret Life - Cate
Though Cate was newly pregnant when she hitchhiked into Indian Lake, she was befriended by Captain Redbeard and his wife, Julie, who own the Marina and the attached Marina Mini Mart.
When they asked her name, she didn’t give her real name, Susan Kramer, she said, “Cate Sullivan.” She had come up with it so naturally, and from that moment Cate began making her new life and for her, changing her name had been an important part.
Heidi Reads... - Excerpt
She put her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. If she could stay here, kissing Trent, she didn’t have to think about nightmares and a murderous ex-husband. At this moment, she lived another lie—that she was worthy of having a real love with a man like Trent.
Singing Librarian Books - Review
"Lanigan’s characters are brought to life in a way that readers can easily relate to them. Readers will also thoroughly enjoy the delightful and enjoyable family dynamic, including fantastic kid characters. This story also has plenty of suspense and romance too. Readers will not want to miss this next instalment in this engaging series. I would recommend this novel to readers that enjoy contemporary romance stories with great family dynamics, as well as mystery."
Nicole's Book Musings - The Dangerous Side of Life in a Small Town
In PROTECTING THE SINGLE MOM, Trent makes reference to some of the reasons that Indian Lake has such a drug problem. These reasons are not fiction. They are fact.
One of the most notable is that residents of small towns have a tendency to believe that drug-lords would not be interested in their “little town.” After all, there aren’t that many people who would buy the drugs, right? A city offers more of that “kind” of person/addict—they think.
Hardcover Feedback - Review
"Protecting the Single Mom was an enjoyable read, one I think fans of contemporary fiction will enjoy. This story stands on its own, so you don't have to read previous books first, but I do want to read the earlier ones someday."
Becky on Books - Interview
Welcome, Catherine! What 5 things should readers know about you?
1. I’m a voracious reader. I wish I had more hours in the day to read even more, but I DO have to write.
2. I work full time and write full time if that’s possible—meaning 40 hours at each job give or take a few hours here and there to buy groceries.
3. I iron my sheets and pillowcases. It’s mindless work and I get a ton of ideas. You think it’s the spray starch? I use lavender scented.
4. I never, ever work anymore without my essential oils diffuser going right next to my computer.
5. My son and his family and then friends come first in my life. I’ll drop everything to help. Though I may pack my laptop on any and all trips.
