→ OVERVIEW:

The perfect daughter for any Pure-Blood family, Narcissa Black is considered a jewel in the glimmering crown of the Black family. Beautiful like her mother, but manipulative and intelligent like her father- Narcissa has grown up believing not everyone in this world is created equal and she is head and shoulders above the rest. The youngest child of CYGNUS and DRUELLA BLACK, Narcissa grew up having everything she could ever wish for presented to her on a silver platter. Her mother in particular was happy to provide her with beautiful clothing and toys beyond the imagination of any child. Druella would dress Narcissa in pretty gowns and curl her long blonde hair to match that of the little dolls that adorned her large four poster bed. It was clear in their family Narcissa was the favourite of their mother, her parents had always wanted a boy but Durella couldn’t have been happier with Narcissa who was in every way her image from the way she spoke to her mannerisms. It was Durella’s very clear favouritism, combined with the Black family’s ideology regarding blood purity that ensured Narcissa would grow up entitled and believed she deserved the very best out of life no matter the cost. 

Brideswater Manor was Narcissa’s castle where her family and their servants would spend each day running around after her trying to ensure her every want and whim was taken care of. Despite her attitude, Narcissa found herself fairly close with her two sisters who didn’t care much for the attention Narcissa craved. Her eldest sister BELLATRIX who affectionately named her Cissy, would shout loudly at the elves until Narcissa got exactly what she wanted, whilst ANDROMEDA would read allowed to her or plait Narcissa’s hair if their mother was otherwise occupied. Her sisters were her companions in this world and although they were not as beautiful as Narcissa, she was very fond of them. As she grew older Narcissa’s relationship changed with her sisters, finding that where they once helped their mother take care of her it had become quite the opposite. Bellatrix was loud and opinionated like their father, whilst Andromeda was quiet and spent more time with her nose in her book rather than caring about her appearance, which to both Durella and Narcissa meant they would struggle to make advantageous marriages and potentially spoil Narcissa’s chances in the process. 

By the time Narcissa joined her older sisters at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, she became aware of just how much work she was going to have to do to ensure her image was spotless. Her sister had banded together with a group of boisterous Sacred Twenty-Eight boys, including her cousin EVAN ROSIER who although came from a good family, had little idea about etiquette and how to present themselves. Bellatrix was a delinquent who ruled her year group with an iron fist, whilst Andromeda was a model student with no idea how to dress herself and approximately two friends to her name. Despite the embarrassment her sisters caused her, no one quite held a candle to her other cousin, SIRIUS BLACK who had disgraced the Black name by becoming a Gryffindor and denouncing their family. Hogwarts was a chance for Narcissa to correct the damage her family had inflicted and she quickly got to work building herself a little gang of girls to help her kick start her reign over the younger students. ELENOR YAXLEY was a stupid girl with similar ideals to Narcissa that ensured she would support her but would never try and rival her for the top position, whilst VIOLET BULSTRODE was a beautiful older witch with an aptitude for hexes which helped keep those who tried to defy her in check. ROWENA ROWLE was often her favourite, the least likely to argue with her and the easiest to manage.

Of all the friends she made at Hogwarts, it was her relationship with RABASTAN LESTRANGE which proved the most useful to her. The younger brother of her sister’s friend RODOLPHUS LESTRANGE, Rabastan came highly recommended to her and quickly became her right hand aid at Hogwarts. Wrangling the boys to form a larger group of students who were loyal to Narcissa. Upon graduating Hogwarts, Narcissa was a Slytherin prefect, a member of Slug Club and had fulfilled her ambition of becoming Head Girl, finally feeling as though she had stepped out of the shadow of her older sister. The idea of working for a living and moving into a property of her own before marriage was not something that captured Narcissa’s attention, resulting in her moving back to Brideswater Manor to live with her parents and Andromeda. Narcissa loved being at home, surrounded by grandeur, cakes, champagne and lavish parties her mother threw frequently enough to cause a stir amongst the wizarding community. As soon as Narcissa returned home from her studies her mother was interested in one thing, marrying her off to someone wonderful to begin the rest of her life in splendor. 

LUCIUS MALFOY had been on Druella’s mind since he was a young boy, believing he was perfect for Narcissa and the only man who could come close to becoming her equal. Narcissa’s life is a blur of parties, flowing drinks and attending events thrown by the wizarding elite in the hopes of procuring the attention of Lucius Malofy, despite him alread being in a long term relationship with ANDRESSA PARKINSON. Well known as one of the most beautiful witches in Britain, Narcissa often finds herself belittled as just a pretty face by those who do not know her well, which she enjoys disproving. Able to hold an intellectual conversation with even the Minister himself, Narcissa prides herself on her knowledge of politics and current affairs although she keeps her true opinions hidden. A young women who has grown accustomed to self-producing herself, like her mother and father, Narcissa is a strong supporter of blood purist ideology though she is careful not to expose her feelings in the current climate amongst those who have different beliefs. With her father holding an important position at The Ministry of Magic, Narcissa’s prime goal is to ensure the social standing of her family remains high, even if that means speaking to blood traitors with a polite tone. Although she keeps up to date with the current state of the wizarding world, she tries not to worry too much on how it affects her. 

Knowing that her father will make the necessary connections if the so called- “Dark Lord” is thought to be able to take over The Ministry. Instead of concerning herself with the brewing war, Narcissa chooses to focus on perfecting her own image and that of her family, ensuring that there can be no doubt that she is the most important witch on the London social scene. The reputation of the Black family has been wounded recently by that of the papers, with both Narcissa, her sister and Sirius on the front page of the papers in October after the Minister’s son BOOKER BAGNOLD was found dead in the Ministry and Bellatrix was accused of his murder. Having made the acquaintance of Daily Prophet journalist RITA SKEETER fairly recently, Narcissa has widened up to the importance of glowing press and has enjoyed seeing how leaking certain pieces of gossip can affect the reputation of those who get on her bad side, including her friend and long term adversary PERSEPHONE WILKES. A witch who has disliked Narcissa since school, Persephone appears intent on trying to topple Narcissa into social obscurity so she can reap the benefits Narcissa currently enjoys without living in her shadow. Though most witches would be threatened by Persephone, Narcissa is too confident within herself to give her the satisfaction and is quietly working on ruining Persphone and anyone else who gets in the way of her happily ever after.

Why Sleep Is So Important and How to Make Sure Your Family Gets It

Is Your Child Getting Enough Sleep?

According to the National Sleep Foundation, young children generally need around 11 to 12 hours of sleep each night.

Their study found that many children are going to bed too late to enjoy a full night’s rest. Research shows that children who go to bed after 9 p.m. take longer to fall asleep, wake more often at night and get less overall sleep.

That is compounded when your child wakes up with wet sheets. Getting out of bed to change the sheets, put on dry clothes, and comfort your child can disrupt their sleep pattern. One in six children between the ages of 4 and 12 experience nighttime wetting. Helping Your Child Sleep Through the Night

There are many things you can do to help your child sleep through the night. Every family is different, but these are things that have definitely worked for us in the past. And if your child is sleeping through the night, chances are more likely that you will, too!

Set an early bedtime. One of the keys to helping your child sleep through the night is ensuring they are getting enough sleep. An overtired child can actually wake up more often at night than one who is well-rested.

Establish a regular bedtime routine. The important thing here is to go through the exact same steps every night. An established routine can cue your child’s brain and body that it’s time to prepare for sleep.

An hour before bedtime, we dim the lights in the house. I turn on some soothing music and we put my son in the bath. After bath time, he dresses for bed — including a pair of GoodNites. Our whole family is involved in the bedtime routine. My husband and I both sit with our son while we read. It is a nice time that we all get to spend together to end the day.

Put the electronics away.  Try not to watch television or other electronics in at least the hour before bedtime, as this can be stimulating to your child’s brain. Instead, try playing games together as a family.

All in all, the most important thing you can do for your child is make sleep a priority. It’s such an important part of a child’s mental and physical development. If he sees you practicing healthy sleep habits, he will make them a priority in his life, too. Plus, when the kiddos sleep well, the adults sleep well so it makes for a much happier home.
