Sketchy for a thing im drawing for @zus-a-fungi that I've been thinking about since they posted that young narwhal Moon with his mom! Sketch is unfinished, just decided to take a picture and show the wip so far! And also talk about it a bit lmao

He is not a moon that I own, as again @zus-a-fungi was the one who drew him, but the struggle is real as I force myself to not think of a story. Though I failed to think of a backstory where his mom dies in someway because of humans, leading to him despising humanssss and having his moms tusk. Annnnnnd when his hat grew too big for him he made/got/found a shawl made of seal and polar bear furs, and sewed stars made of his old hat onto it <3

Very likely that I wont be continuing onto lining it with my pen until @zus-a-fungi notices this XD

for the wip title game - Whale pregnancy wip lololol 👀

Lmaoooo, I was really hoping someone was going to ask about this, because it sounds bonkers, but it's actually just a half-formed, fluffy little idea about Annabeth's first pregnancy, whenever that is. Percy and Annabeth have talked about having kids multiple times in the books, and I think that's an adorable topic to explore, so at some point I'll probably write it! But this very basic outline of a scene is all I have so far 😂:

"Gods, I look like a whale."

"What kind of whale?"

She gives him a sharp look, but no reply. He grins.

"Mmm… I'm gonna say narwhal. Definitely a narwhal."

"Percy. You are supposed to be telling me that I am beautiful and perfect, not feeding into my delusions!"

"Wow, you don't think narwhals are beautiful? I'm hurt on their behalf."

She gives him a sharper look, and again, no reply. He grins wider.

"See? Narwhal! Adorable, squishy, and absolutely capable of stabbing me if I don't shut up."

A satisfied nod. "And don't you forget it."

Annabeth looks pensive, Percy comes over and kneels in front of her, rubs her belly.

"Why does it bother you so much? You've got a whole new life in there, of course it's gonna need space to grow." He pauses and presses a kiss to her belly. "And, for the record, I DO think you're beautiful and perfect."

"Well, if you think it's all so wonderful, YOU can carry the next one."

He gives her an impish grin. "I'm not a seahorse, babe. But you know I would if I could."

Snap Turtle Monster Design

Earlier this week I came across Romeck_ Art's channel on youtube they are a professional illustrator and designer. They uploaded this video documenting their process of designing a cow-like creature called a Mludhuz. Though not a full on tutorial, its a well documented close-up into designing a unique critter with commentary. I would definitely recommend giving their vid and channel a look.

Reminded me I haven't done any creature designing of my own in a while so this guy was born. He's not finished yet, but I've got his basic look down enough to share.

Process and wips under the cut

Basic Idea:

alligator snapping turtles

(loosly) narwhal / whale like

salt water or fresh water

easygoing lumbering giant

could kill easily but would most likely run away

Sketch and base shading

Everything is loose and proportions aren't correct. I'm not concerned with accuracy at this stage, my focus is on nailing down the basic form im going for. Shading is soft to lock down values, parts that are further away are lighter, closer parts are darker, that sort of thing. The texture is minimal and will be used as a foundation for scales, spikes, and other details later on. All of the shading is beneath the sketch layer.

Texture and correcting the pose

At this stage I merge the sketch and base together. I'll blend the sketch layer into the softer values already established and start blotting in more detail on top. First by sketching the square scales on the limbs and adding paneling to the shell and underbelly.

I made a custom brush for the square scales that made my life easier:

I also changed the leg placement and squished in the dino's torso. I decided I didn't really like the snakelike appearance the sketched shell had. With his hind legs more bulky and the turtle shell more round he seemed closer to the tortoise look I was going for.

More touch up work and color

To pull the values together I move to a separate layer and go over the ref with a soft circle brush. I'll add the highlights and darker shadows with black and white. Then use multiply, screen, and overlay to get the effect that I want.

Color is added with the color layer mode. Ill keep the colors muted and grey for most of the base only adding saturated values where I know I want them. In this case the horns, crest, beak, and tail are most saturated, added color to attract a mate maybe?

hello, everyone! this is a reintroduction / announcement that i've moved blogs. i have been away from tumblr for a while and wanted to join the writeblr community again and think i want to have a clean slate to start on! my old blog is @writings-of-a-narwhal !

i'm elle (she/her) and i am twenty years old! i have ben involved in writeblr on and off for a few years, more off than on in the past couple just because of a lot of things happening in my life. i honestly don't know how active i will be but please know that i want to hear about your wips and ocs always! feel free to send an ask or dm anytime to talk about writing or anything at all!! <3

i have a good handful of wips myself but i'm only going to list my two big/main ones and then the concept that currently has my brain in its grips.

and the moon sets - (warnings: war, death, trauma, blood, nightmares, ect) a fantasy story based in a setting akin to sengoku era japan. yamatochi has been at war for generations. currently, one of the biggest forces in the war is the takeda clan. genkei takeda rules as warlord with his grandchildren; the eldest is a pretty and kindhearted young woman named hoshiko, the younger is known simply as 'young lord takeda' by most and is the heir that genkei always wanted. hoshiko loves her younger sibling and it's undeniable that young lord takeda loves her, too.

however, as the war effort intensifies, so does the resistance, and the relationship between the two becomes strained as secrets are revealed and rash decisions are made...

broken thrones - (warnings: fighting, drinking, kidnapping, trauma, bad dreams, blood, ect) rosar, the youngest princess of feria, is kidnapped. her eldest sister, amary - a bounty hunter and disgraced princess - goes on the hunt for her and ends up entering the country of issera. during her search, amary stumbles upon a young rebel leader - culraes - and his forces. she gets tangled in his dealings and he in hers. they make a deal- he helps her find rosar and she helps him take out the tyrant queen.

meanwhile, in feria, the queen is now a widow and her middle daughter is trying to pick up the pieces of the shattered peace and make her country a better place, including an attempt to make magic legal within feria.

will any of them succeed in their efforts?

falling - (post and the moon sets, contains some spoilers. warnings: depression, dark thoughts and actions, trauma, mentions of war, gods) akasuki nakamura is struggling. life after the war isn't easy. she had looked so forward to the peace that would come, but now that it's here...she just feels empty. she had everything when the war first ended; her siblings, a wonderful spouse, her dream job, peace. she has lost one of those things, though, and now everything is...empty, numb.

one day, however, she comes across a strange person who tries to change her view of everything.

Finishing up yet another reread (at LEAST my third read-through, if not fourth) and I ADORE Cyanide Narwhal. It's one of my all time favorite fics ever, and definitely one of my top 5 favorite Genshin fics - off the top of my head, it's tied for my favorite (with After Everything by Amanveth). I LOVE the way you write the lore and worldbuilding - several of the things you've written have become or spawned my own headcanons/theories. I especially love your Abyss lore in both CN and ITYSG(AINLY) (which I'm gonna reread again next), as well as the way you balanced canon and your own worldbuilding in both, but especially CN. Your characterization of Childe/Ajax and Zhongli/Morax is BEAUTIFUL, and helped solidify their characterizations in my head so I could write them myself. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know I love your writing!!! (I also adored your "check chat" for MCYT, it was the first of your fics I ever read, long before I started Genshin, so I knew before even reading any of your Genshin fics that'd I'd love them...) I'm curious if you have any plans to write any more Genshin fics anytime soon? But no pressure! Okay, I gotta gush about my Wriothesley.

On the Akasha system, I’m in the 5% range at 1058 outta 26230 for solo which is what I use him for. It’s constantly changing so take this with a grain of salt.

He is c6, his signature weapon is r2, lvl 90 and lvl 10 friendship and as of this moment, he is double crowned with an expectation to triple him sometime in the next few weeks, it’s his burst that isn’t crowned. With no supports he manages to hit 70k-80k plus one of his cons so double it on his charged attacks.

His artifacts are still a wip but his crit value is 55 over 220, account for the Marechaussee and cryo res, I’m pretty happy with his current stats so that’s all that matters to me.

Someone joined my world with Kazuha and Shenhe and I was easily hitting triple digits :3

I am saving up for Kazhua and Shenhe but didn’t know what to do for my 4th slot. I have Charlotte, she’s fun but doesn’t bring much to the table, built her to heal since her healing scales off her attack. Dunno why? Wrio self heals amazingly. She was more or less there for the cryo res.

Then I read somewhere that Mika is a great option and I have him, granted, c3 and lvl 40 and absolutely not built. Reading him over and I never realized that he increased act speed, it was like 14% at the time and I didn’t see a difference outta combat.

But in combat?

I was speechless lmao.

So whenever I want to test something with him, I’ll use the Denouement of Sin. Ik it buffs the lost and gain of health but Wrio can solo that domain is under a minute so I consider it to be a good starter point.

I use to be able to clear that place in about a minute, the Wrio got his main talents crowned and it’s 45-50 seconds and then toss Mika in there and it’s 35-40 seconds 0_o

It may be insignificant to y’all but to me, Wrio is my main so this is huge to me. He soloed the all devouring narwhal before it even started it second stage, he solos the abyss, he solos damn near any boss for me, enemies get turned into jelly when this man touches them.

I put Zhonglis shield on him and Wriothesley is unstoppable. fuck you ruin guards. He doesn’t need supports but I need to see this man hit numbers I ain’t even seen before.

It sucks that he got sandwiched between Neuvillette and Furina and had those allegations of being a bad dps unit/stander banner chara and having to deal with those Lynne mains who disliked him for essentially protecting the Fortress.

I hope ppl who wanted him can try and get him again when the banners aren’t so stacked. Ik I took a heavy hit with everyone who came out (I have Neuv, Furina, and Navia…)
