Note
in the interest of feeding my developing celebrity crush on Paul McGann, what other movies of his do you recommend?
These are personal preferences but:
Sweet Revenge, a two-part drama in which Paul plays a university professor who arranges paybacks in his spare time (Part One) (Part Two)
Perplexed Music is a short film written and directed by Paul’s brother Mark and also features his younger son, Sonny. Paul plays a widower coming to terms with his loss.
I’ve always been fond of short-lived series Fish, where Paul is an employment lawyer struggling to cope with raising his son on his own after his wife goes off to ‘find herself’.
Give Us A Break, a very early role, a comedy drama series co-starring with Robert Lindsay. Here he’s the younger brother of ducker and diver Lindsay’s girlfriend, who turns out to be good at snooker, something Lindsay decides to try and make use of. Probably the most Scouse you’ll hear Paul on screen!
Paper Mask Hospital porter wants to be a doctor. It does not go well.
Luther Not to everyone’s taste and some episodes are rather unpleasant (3 and 5 of the first series) but I want to take Mark North home.
Withnail and I, of course; every Paul fan needs to see it at least once! (No active link for this one that I can find right now)
If you fancy a documentary, Victorian Sensations: Decadence and Degeneration is a strange but compelling watch, and one that Paul presents rather than just narrates.
And here he is talking about Hornblower
@prydon made a filmography masterlist (from which some of these links have been gratefully taken) which is well worth a look. His CV tends to range through Great, Good, WTF did I just watch? and Oh, dear God, why?! but I can also recommend Our Mutual Friend, Forgotten and Poirot: Sad Cypress. I know other people would say you should definitely see The Monocled Mutineer and The Hanging Gale (the latter stars all four McGann brothers) but I personally found those two too depressing to watch more than once. Horses for courses.
Whatever you choose, enjoy! 😀

Happy Birthday David O'Hara born in Glasgow July 9, 1965 to Patrick and Martha O'Hara.
After leaving school he was accepted for a Youth Opportunities Programme, at a community theatre, based at the Glasgow Arts Centre he left Scotland to pursue the craft at the age of 17, studying at London's Central School of Speech and Drama. The dark-haired actor made his feature debut in a small part in Bill Forsyth's Comfort and Joy and played a Scottish boy in The Monocled Mutineer, his first effort for the small screen.
Among David's stage performances, he portrayed Tybalt in a 1986 open air production of Romeo and Juliet and three years later took his turn in the play's more challenging role of Mercutio. His big break came as Stephen, the rampaging Irishman who joins forces with William Wallace (Mel Gibson), in Braveheart . Two years later, he was co-starring opposite Helen Mirren as a slightly independent policeman in Granada Television's Prime Suspect V: Errors in Judgment which aired on PBS' Masterpiece Theatre. That same year David was very busy appearing in Alan J. Pakula's The Devil's Own; he was the romantic foil to Janeane Garofalo in The Matchmaker; he portrayed a biker in the Scottish film The Slab Boys and finally, he also portrayed Bill Sykes in the Disney adaptation of Oliver Twist.
Other appearances on the big screen include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Departed and Cowboys & Aliens and The Madman and The Professor, where he again appeared alogside Gibson, his TV shows, The Tudors, Luther, Criminal Minds and Gotham
Last year David appeared in the movie, The Sparrow, he is lined up to star in a new film, An Enemy Within, which should be released later this year.

I totally agree. He has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi, as uncle Monty would say.
Although in my case, I fell in love with Paul when I watched The Monocled Mutineer, back in the 80s. (I am THAT old!)😂
The conclusion is, if you watch anything with Paul McGann in it, then you risk falling in love with him.
idk if it’s the eyes or the voice or something else entirely, but there’s just something about paul mcgann folks
i dare you to watch withnail and i and not fall in love

Hidden in the depths of my files, here's a Paul interview on The Monocled Mutineer, from LM magazine, February 1987. Sadly, I can't remember where I found these shots.
(That was meant to be posted yesterday, but I completely forgot it🫣)

WebFind: Looking Back at “The Monocled Mutineer”, and Charley's War, too
WebFind: Looking Back at “The Monocled Mutineer”, and Charley’s War, too
Via Graeme Wood Some of you may have seen Battle Picture Weekly comic strip “Charley’s War” co-creator Pat Mills mention the 1980s BBC drama The Monocled Mutineer in interviews. Given its lack of much re-screening, you may be wondering what it was about, and, indeed, wondering why, just like Pat, why it hasn’t been re-screened. Or, for that matter, why, as yet, it is not included as part of the…

I fell for Paul when I watched him in The Monocled Mutineer, back in the 80s (I was 15 back then). I love him as Lieutenant Bush, as Marwood, and as The Doctor (mainly in The Night of the Doctor). I also have a soft spot for him as Jake in Annika.
I haven't met him IRL, but I had three 1-2-1 chats with him back in 2021. Very memorable moments, especially the first one. I still remember every detail of it. Paul was so adorable! He kept smiling at me and made my nervousness disappear.

This just in: Paul McGann photos you definitely haven't seen before...because they were taken by your very own Girlies for McGann! (By Katie at Gallifrey One 2017 & Maggie at Long Island Who 2018, respectively.)
Always love thinking of these as "our" Paul McGann, but what version of him do you love the most? Is it the Doctor? Is it Marwood? Did you see him in person like we did? Let us know in the tags/reblogs/replies!
