Punishment - The imposition of a penalty or deprivation for wrongdoing.

In canon era or in our modern days, punishment is surely a part of life.

We see Merlin getting sent to the stocks (s01e01; s01e07, other mentions); and Uther sending Arthur to the dungeons for misbehaving (s01e04), teachers have been known to spank students, just to make some examples.

In Medieval times common corporal punishments included whipping, stocks, pillory, branding or mutilation. Some interesting instruments for punishment were introduced by that time, such as cucking stools, iron chairs and many others... Public humiliation and shaming were also big.

Sticking Goats ("The Horse") The victim was placed on horseback on this torture device with weights tied to the wrists and ankles. The sharp rib of the bar would dig into the crotch, causing unbearable pain. (source)

Some tortures were focused on genitals, it is said the origin of chastity cages is as torture devices.

Does your character find themselves getting punished... but they turn out to like it? Does Arthur develop an odd longing for spanking after years of Uther disciplining him like that? Does someone discover a vore kink after getting a pass in a Sicilian Bull? Or they find getting almost burned feels really hot but in a different way? As you see history is full of different punishment methods, but if you don't feel like delving into the gruesome-ness of real life you can explore some magical possibilities.

Do the druid have specific punishments for their own people's misbehaviours? Could the consequences for Elyan disturbing the druid's camp have been spicier? Do Merlin or Morgana have some magic tricks up their sleeves to punish their sub/s in bed? ✨

Getting back to reality for a moment.

IRL, in BDSM relationships, outside of roleplay – where they could be roleplaying a punishment scene for pleasure, which is FUNishment – the punishment is to communicate the master/dom/domme's disapproval. For example if a partner forgets to use the proper honorific to address them or they don't follow an order properly or break a rule, they must face consequences.

Discipline can take on many forms.

Usually if an activity is done during play or for pleasure (example: if a sub loves getting spanked=funishment) that is not used as punishment, since that would not be the most effective form of punishment/behaviour correction. Still, spanking is a big classic and we all love it! Impact play can be done with many objects and they each leave different marks too!

Corporal punishments can be walking on knees or barefoot on a painful surface (stones, uncooked pasta, hot concrete...), wearing a yoni egg without dropping it or wearing a butt plug or nipple clamps for a day. Are they alone? Sometimes the worst punishment is that which we inflict on ourselves... In fact some kinksters believe punishments that are most effective are not physically painful.
