Riverdale Theories
Still a bit shaken by the season 3 finale? I know I am. Is Jughead really dead? Who is Charles? Is G&G really over? What will season 4 bring to the table? In this blog, I am going to be talking about some theories and guesses for the next season.
Theory #1: Jughead is not Dead.
In the ending scene of 3x22, we get a glimpse of a flashforward to spring break of senior year, showing Archie, Veronica, and Betty all standing around a fire, stripped of their clothes and covered in blood. This scene was clearly meant to imply that the three of them had killed Jughead, considering that Jughead was not present in this scene and Archie threw his iconic beanie into the fire. But still, does that necessarily mean he's dead? I don't think so. One of my main reasons is because he's one of the main beloved characters, so that's where their coins are at. Plus, Cole supposedly has a 6 year contract with the show, so it wouldn't make sense for him to be dead. My second reason is my theory. My theory is that the core four, (or someone in the core four) accidentally killer someone. Like when Sweet Pea and Fangs accidentally killed Tall Boy. Jughead was somewhere else in the woods probably burying the body, while Archie, Veronica, and Betty burnt the evidence. Who did they kill? I think Charles. I think that Charles found out about the body that Betty had helped her mother clean up since Alice had told the farm. Charles probably went to the farm as part of an investigation to take them down, and then Edgar and the Farmies didn't wanna get in trouble, so they ratted out Betty and her Mother. Charles went to the spot where Alice told them they dumped the body, they found the body, and then Charles went to Betty and one of the core four took him down.
Theory #2: Alice Wasn't Always Working for the FBI.
In the season 3 finale, we find out that Alice was supposedly never brainwashed, and that she was working with Charles and the FBI the whole time to try and build a case against Edgar Evernever and the whole Farm. But was she really working with them the whole entire time? I don't think so. So here's my theory for this. When Polly first tried to recruit Alice in Season 2, Alice agreed and joined. Then in the start of season 3 you can see how obsessed she was with Edgar's "healing methods". I think Alice was brainwashed up to a point. I think she was brainwashed until Polly had tried to drown her, and she had realized that there was something fishy going on with the farm. Why do I think this? Here are some reasons. If Alice wasn't brainwashed, then why would she willingly tell the farm in the beginning of season 3 about the dead body she cleaned up? Why did she take Betty's college money and give it to the farm? Why would she tell Betty that she trusts the farm more than Betty? All of those parts don't add up. I think after Polly tried to drown her, she snapped back into reality. Because after that you don't see her making too many sacrifices and telling risky secrets to the farm. Wait, but she sold her house, isn't that a sacrifice for the farm? No. I believe that the memories of living with a serial killer in the house, Hal trying to choke her to death, cleaning up the dead body Chic killed, Betty having her seizure, and the Gargoyle King breaking in all haunted her, so she simply wanted to get rid of it and move on.
Theory #3: Veronica has Another Sibling
We all know that Hermione is full of secrets. Trying to assassinate Hiram, being a part of the Midnight Club, having a secret affair with Sheriff Minetta, having an affair with Sheriff Minetta, trying to frame FP for murder, and being a part of an illegal purchase of Fizzle Rocks with Gladys Jones. So her having an affair with another man wouldn't be the biggest surprise. Hermione could've had a secret affair with someone before having Veronica, and before marrying Hiram. If she could've kept her affair with Sheriff Minetta a secret, then I bet she could've kept another affair secret. My theory is that when Hermione and Hiram graduated high school, they broke up for little while. In that while Hermione got with someone and accidentally got pregnant. The baby was born and she put it up for adoption, a year or two later, Hiram and Hermione got back together, and Hermione never spoke of the child ever again.
Theory #4: Jason has a Long Lost Twin
Jason Blossom is dead. We saw his body wash up on the shore of Sweetv Water River, and at the end of 3x22, we saw Cheryl sitting with the dead body of Jason. But does that automatically mean that Cheryl has no alive Blossom twin left? Not necessarily. In the Archie Comics, Jason and Cheryl Blossom have a long lost twin named Julian Blossom (picture above). Now, we know that the comic storyline barely relates to the show, but here's my theory. Penelope was adopted from the SOQM (Sisters of Quiet Mercy). The Blossoms asked to see all the red-headed children. They found Penelope and adopted her. She was raised to first be Clifford's sister, and as they grew older, become his life companion (AKA wife). So if Penelope was adopted, it would make sense for Cheryl to have been adopted the same way. To be Jason's sister, and then become his life companion. Here's what I think happened before. Penelope had planned to give birth to twins. One girl, one boy. So that the whole life companion thing could be done. But when it came to be that two boys were born instead, she abandoned one of the boys (which would've been Julian Blossom from the comics), and adopted Cheryl. Maybe in season 4, that long lost twin will come back. I mean, we've seen this similar case with Alice and FP. Charles was gone put up for adoption, and now hes back and alive. Could be the same situation over there.
Theory #5: Evelyn is Edgar's Wife and Daughter.
In 3x20 (I believe), it was revealed that Evelyn is actually 26 years old and wasn't actually Edgar's daughter, but Edgars wife. But that doesn't mean that the whole thing about Evelyn being his daughter is completely wrong. In the season 3 finale when edgar is about to perform the procedure on Betty, Evelyn walks in and calls him "Dad". Now this may have merely been a writer's mistake, and they forgot the plot of which Evelyn is actually Edgar's wife, but after all, it's riverdale. It may had been a hidden egg hinting to something more. This wouldn't have been the first case of incest since Jason and Polly dated and had children, and it also wouldn't be the biggest suprise if Edgar seems to have to issue being married to two people (Evelyn and Alice).
Theory #6: Fangs, Edgar, Evelyn, and the Farmies may be Dead.
In 3x22, Edgar said "The ascension is upon us." As we've seen all season 3, ascension seems to mean proving your worthiness and loyalty to the Gargoyle King, by risking or even sacrificing your life. When the core four made it back to the farm, Kevin said "They said someone had to stay behind to tell the story." We've seen this type of situation before, in 2x22, Hal forced Alice to take out her tape recorder to record his reasoning for becoming the Black Hood. When Alice asked why he wanted it all recorded, Hal said "So that they'll know what happened, when they find us." Implying he was going to kill them and then himself. After Kevin said that, he then said "The worthy ascended." When Betty asked him where they are, he said "Gone, and we'll never see them again." Considering he said "the worthy ascended", that seems to give away the fact that the farm had something to do with G&G. Since you have to prove you're worthy to ascend. So I believe most, if not all the farmies, have ascended and died doing so.
Thanks for reading this post! If you enjoyed it please like, comment, follow, and share!! xoxo

You’ve probably heard that the schedule for the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival (TCMFF) 2019 was published earlier this week. TCMFF is scheduled for April 11-14 and this year’s theme is Follow Your Heart: Love at the Movies. As you can imagine, such a broad theme allows for all sorts of relationships in movies and in that sense the offerings don’t disappoint. There’s something for everyone – from traditional romance to bromance to love in pure evil form. What’s important is that for the 10th consecutive year, classic movie fans will have a love affair with movies in Hollywood.
As has become tradition on this blog I’ve put together my planned schedule for discussion sake. I tried to go a bit beyond my comfort level this year choosing new-to-me fare in more slots than ever before with a dear coming home at the end the festival. This will be my seventh year in Hollywood for this event and the excitement has not waned. There’s simply a lot to look forward to.
Also exciting is the fact that I will be playing a dual role at TCMFF 2019. I’ve mentioned my media credentials to cover TCMFF in the past and that is true again this year. In addition, I will also be one of about 30 Brand Ambassadors. I don’t know many details of this post yet, but follow me on social media and we’ll learn together.
Now to my picks…I hope some of you will chime in with yours. If you’re a blogger and publish a pre-TCMFF post be sure to leave me the link in the comments so I can include it in this post. I enjoy comparing people’s picks and think others do as well. Here we go…
Thursday, April 11
I’m betting the biggest crowd aside from Grauman’s for the official opening night feature, will be at the Egyptian for Howard Hawks’ enjoyable Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and its iconic images. Although I adore that movie, which features Marilyn Monroe in standout comedic form, I plan to attend the 35MM screening of Hobart Henley’s Night World (1932), which I’ve never seen. Sara Karloff, daughter of the legendary Boris Karloff, will do the introductory honors alongside writer Susan King. Spending some time at a Karloff speakeasy is simply too good to pass up and it’s a fantastic way to start the festival.
Next I’ll likely meet bunches of people I know at the Egyptian for the Nitrate screening of Irving Reis’ The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer (1947) starring my love Cary Grant, the lovely Myrna Loy, and the popular Shirley Temple. This is the first of several movies featuring Cary Grant this weekend and I plan to stare at him every chance I get. Almost.
Friday, April 12
Friday morning poses a bit of a dilemma for me. There’s the film noir staple The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) opposite pre-code Merrily We Go to Hell (1932) opposite Judy Garland’s only drama appearance in The Clock (1945) opposite the enjoyable High Society (1956). I decided on Dorothy Arzner’s pre-code featuring Sylvia Sydney, Fredric March and a pre-stardom Cary Grant. How can I go wrong with that combination?
Following that movie I’ll have a bit of time before the Club TCM presentation of The Descendants: Growing Up in Hollywood. This presentation may be as close as I’ll ever get to the idea of “Legacies” I’ve been hoping for, which calls for a panel of children of classic stars. In attendance at The Descendants presentation will be Cary Grant’s daughter, Jennifer. This means I’ll be one degree away from the greatest Hollywood has ever seen.
The next Friday block poses another slight problem. My choice of screening is Garson Kanin’s delightful, My Favorite Wife (1940) at the Egyptian, but skipping Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) is not easy. The reason I’m going to see Cary and Irene Dunne, besides the fact they’re wonderful, is due to the next screening, which will likely be a popular one.
For the 5:30 to 8:00 PM block on Friday I plan to watch the new-to-me Vanity Street (1932) directed by Nick Grinde followed by John Reinhardt’s Open Secret (1948). I think these two films will have long lines because the others screening in the slot are much newer movies. That means die-hard “old” movie lovers have my choices as their choices as well. Robert Wise’s beloved The Sound of Music (1965) is also screening in the slot and that eases my worries a bit.
Next I go to go see Jean Negulesco’s Road House (1948) starring Ida Lupino and Richard Widmark. The other movie I seriously considered in this slot is the premiere restoration of Anthony Mann’s Winchester ’73 (1950). Watching at least one important Western at the festival has become a tradition for me. If I skip Winchester the tradition will be broken, which is tough.
This year I am making it a point to attend at least one midnight screening and it looks like Joselito Rodríguez’s Santo Contra Cerebro Del Mal (1961) is the choice. It’s exciting to watch a movie in Spanish at TCMFF and, although I am familiar with the Santo superhero character, I’ve never seen one of his films. This should be a heck of a lot of fun.
Saturday, April 13
What hit me immediately upon perusing the Saturday morning line-up is that I might not make it into Grauman’s at all the entire festival. Can you imagine? One of the two golden age films screening at the historic theatre, Fred Zinnemann’s From Here to Eternity (1953) opens the day there, but I am going for science fiction and Rudolph Maté’s When Worlds Collide from 1951. The movie stars John Hoyt, Richard Derr, Barbara Rush, and Peter Hansen. Rush will be in attendance to introduce the film with Dennis Miller. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Barbara Rush on a couple of occasions and she couldn’t be more down to Earth, a truly lovely person who will no doubt offer interesting tidbits about the making of When Worlds Collide.
From possible world annihilation I will venture into the jungles for the special presentation of the 85-year old Tarzan and His Mate (1984), the only directing outing by legendary art director, Cedric Gibbons. One of the first film courses I ever took was taught by a film historian and author obsessed with the nude swim scene and its artistry. I’ve seen it, of course, several times, but never on a big screen so this one is exciting.
Before you continue down my schedule, know that the rest of Saturday is a web of sacrifices for me. Foregoing a few screenings to ensure entrance in the ones I cannot miss is the order of this day. With that I continue…
Following Tarzan I’ll be visiting with Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer in Leo McCarey’s Love Affair (1939) celebrating its 80th anniversary. This will be introduced by Dana Delaney who is a great classics fan in her own right. Although I have no reservation about enjoying this film, which I haven’t seen in quite some time, it would not be my choice if not for the rest of the day’s offerings. For instance, I think I’d enjoy the Tom Mix Double Feature immensely and would attend that if not for Rowland Brown’s Blood Money (1933) hailed as “the ultimate pre-Code film” on the TCMFF page and I’ve never seen it. Blood Money follows in the next slot and if I see Tom Mix I won’t have time to get to it. That’s the deciding factor for me. I’ll also be truly sorry to miss the Hollywood Home Movies presentation at Club TCM yet again.
The worst block of the entire 2019 TCMFF for me as far as decisions go is the Saturday evening offerings after Blood Money. My good friend Laura of Laura’s Miscellaneous Musings mentioned the rarity that will be the screening of George Marshall’s Life Begins at 40 (1935) and she should know as she takes full advantage of the numerous classic screenings available in the Los Angeles area. The problem, my dears, is that if I go to Life Begins at 40 I won’t make it to what I believe will be an unforgettable experience, Mervyn LeRoy’s The Bad Seed (1956) poolside with Patty McCormack in attendance. I’m super excited about this one as I consider McCormack’s portrayal of Rhoda one of the all-time great child performances and an impressionable evil. That said, this decision comes at a great cost because while I’ll be watching this terrific film, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, two stars that mean the world to me, will be Indiscreeting in a nearby theater. This actually hurts to think about, but this will be my first ever screening by the pool at the Roosevelt and I couldn’t look forward to it more.
Sunday, April 14
Another tough choice opens Sunday with Peter Lorre’s fantastic performance in Karl Freund’s Mad Love (1935) screening opposite George Cukor’s Holiday (1938), but in the end Cary Grant wins as does Diane Baker’s introduction. Touch one though.
My choice for this next block may change depending on the TBA. I’m hoping it’ll be Indiscreet in which case that’s where I’ll be. Barring that happening I may well forego movies and attend two Club TCM presentations in a row, which would be a first: Hollywood Love Stories and The Complicated Legacy of Gone With the Wind are both enticing and likely to be entertaining and informative.
Finally, I arrive at the end of the weekend with the two final screenings. These are no-brainer choices for me. The first is Clarence Brown’s A Woman of Affairs (1928), the third picture to team Greta Garbo and John Gilbert and their final silent film together. Present for the introduction will be Kevin Brownlow and Leonard Maltin. This screening will also be accompanied by a live orchestra performing a score composed and conducted by Carl Davis and it should be spectacular.
Now talk about thrilling. This will be a nitrate presentation of Irving Cummings’ The Dolly Sisters (1945) starring one of my idols, superstar Betty Grable and June Haver as famous vaudeville entertainers, Jenny and Rosie Dolly. This movie strays far from the real story of The Dolly Sisters who were known more for their dark beauty than for their talent, so if you’re looking for biographical drama look elsewhere. However, if enchanting entertainment, the wonderful fluff I adore that’s important enough to get a Carol Burnett parody, if what you’re after then look no further. This one means a lot to me. Remember, Betty Grable was my idea of the biggest star in the world. Oh oh…I may cry during this screening. With John Payne as Grable’s love and character greats S. Z. Sakall and Sig Ruman, The Dolly Sisters screening cannot come soon enough even though it ends my TCMFF 2019.
◊
There you have my picks and ideas on this year’s festival. It all adds up to 16 movies – a decent number for me – three Club TCM presentations, and numerous new experiences. I hope to run into you in Hollywood, but if not follow me on social media for the latest from TCMFF 2019.

Riverdale Liveblog 3x06, Manhunter
Will I be sending Archie a fruit basket after this episode? We’ll see!
I’m feeling the Sandra D vibes a lot right now
Another gang that looks more fun than the Serpents!
RIVW? Riverdale...Investigative...Ventricular...Worldcast
Dilton died so that all of his peers who ignored and belittled him his whole short life could have sex in his secret bunker
Look at Fangs laughing at his attempted murderer’s joke. Acceptance
That was a really cool camera angle though. Hats off to Rachel Talalay
Poor Josie :(
Warden Norton was the RROTC instructor eh? And Keller and Major Mason were in RROTC together...I’m just going to randomly say that Mason’s the Gargoyle King. IDGAF that he’s not in the Midnight Club
Archie’s a Serpent now? Mmmmm, sounds fake.
I’m just soaking up all the background Keller. Mmmm, that flannel. Lol, fuck you, Marty.
Casey’s name appearing while Martin is onscreen is beautiful
Semi living for Penelope/Daryl in place of Cheryl/Dilton. And wow, Dilton had this whole tragic backstory that we never got to know about! Also, this in violation of Issue 7 of the Riverdale comic!
“The Last Resort” youth hostel? Love it
I love this Doug Jones lookalike
So three people (including Archie’s own mother) poured over all this footage and files for a whole summer and never noticed that edit? Mmmm, okay. Sure.
Hiram’s painting of himself is beautiful
Don’t take this out on Kevin! And I noticed that change in phones! Breakup with Samsung, eh? Where’s the clickbait article about THAT? And while I don’t have an iPhone, I think I’d punch someone who tossed that overly expensive piece of hardware at me like it was an old school Nokia
I’m living for this Hardy Boys vibe though. It’s everything that I’ve ever wanted for Kevin
OH MY GOD. GO EASY ON JOAQUIN. SHEESH. But also Joaquin being bound and gagged and restrained is....thanks, RAS. I never thought I’d get to see him interacting with other Serpents so this is a strange boon. Now he just needs to get cleaned up and back into their ranks or something. I dunno. I don’t take any betrayals on this show that seriously. Because the show doesn’t
KEEP. MY. DILF’S. NAME. OUT. YOUR. MOUTH, HIRAM. Homicidal. Sheesh. Yes, RIP Svenson, but that was a fuck yeah moment at the time
I swear if this precious Doug Jones lookalike dies because of this investigation, I’ll throw a table. He’s too pure and creepy
Oooo, fuck, yeah, I’m here for this Keller scene. Goddamn, those fucking arms. Did he get a new tattoo since that iconic shirtless scene? His arms are just...entrancing. “Son of a gun” lol, well that’s where Kevin gets it from. So proud of Keller remembering investigative things.
Oh, jesus. I take back the things I said about Keller and Minetta being similar. At first yeah, and then there were things here and there distancing them. But this is finally the biggest step
Kevin! How dare you hesitate to save someone! I’m disappointed in you!
...
...
...
I’M FUCKING DELETING MY FUCKING BLOG
What a fun parallel. Archie/Kevin and Tom/Fred teamups! I’m soaking up these concerned dad feels
RIP Cassidy’s friend. You’ll live on in IMDB Shadow Lake Boy #2!
Kevin has such a weird bias against “criminals”. And yet who accepted money to go vandalize another part of town? Which is a CRIMINAL ACT. I do not like this side of Kevin. I was hoping the classism would be worked on instead of just growing more
This Scream homage is the best thing this show has ever done
A KELLER HUG. THE RAREST OF TREATS! This episode is back in my good graces. Barely. THAT NECK GRIP! Why did my home computer have to fucking blitz out on me. And damn, those blood spots. Hard to get out of denim
ALICE. WHAT?!?! I’m fucking laughing because this is such an obviously bad decision. I love that they just fucking appeared.
The Jarchie roadtrip is finally happening! Fulfilling the broken promises of pre-season 1
“Looked down on” is a funny way of rephrasing “blackmail”
SMH that this whole episode was named Manhunter, and they never did a Hannibal scene
ANYWAYS, RAS can catch my hands and my shoes and whatever else I pelt at him.

My boyfriend and friends influence and inspire me a lot. A lot of my best friends are musicians, or artists of some kind.
3. What was your first “I got this” moment as an artist?
Most of the time I don’t feel like I totally know what I’m doing. I saw my friend Kevin Johnston play at Pete’s Candy Store a long time ago (2007?) at a time when I was singing backup for singer-songwriters and bands, and I knew I had to do that too and start writing songs in a more purposeful way.
4. What are you listening to right now?
Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves, Long Live the Dead by Jordan Lehning, Cigarettes After Sex, Both Ways by Donovan Woods, Kendrick Lamar, Mental Illness by Aimee Mann
5. How do you feed your imagination?

7. What artists shaped you?
Frightened Rabbit, Wakey Wakey, Mariah Carey, Jaymay, Joni Mitchell, Chicago, Fiona Apple, My parents music: Jim Croce, CCR, Jackson Browne, Carpenters etc. classic rock.
8. Who is your dream collaboration?
I don’t know. I used to really want to write a song with Scott Hutchison, but he passed away. I like playing music with my friend Hayley Batt and my boyfriend, Paul McDonald. I think it would be cool to a side project or poetry book with Hayley Batt. Paul and I have a side project called The Sweetheart Deal and will be playing some shows at the end of the month.
9. Can you describe your creative spaces?
I like to have really empty spaces to write in. So my office I keep with as little clutter as possible. At least at first and then if I leave something out or put something on the wall it’s very purposeful. Honestly I find I write the best or get ideas on airplanes and in hotel rooms. I guess having no responsibility to take care of the space frees my mind. But I always like to have guitar in the living room and then sometimes when I’m watching really stupid, boring tv my mind wanders and I write at the same time.
10. What is a typical weekend like?
Every weekend is different cause I end up traveling for acting work or going to comic book conventions.
But, Now that I’m in LA, I like to swim if it’s hot out!!! I like to hike and I like to go see friends play at little places like The Echo or Hotel Cafe. If I’m in Nashville, I like to go to Radnor Lake and hang out in East Nashville. I like trying new coffee shops. I like to watch CBS Sunday morning. It’s news for Grandmas and I love it. I try to watch it every week.
11. Are there any specific magazines/podcasts/websites/brands you like?
App called Mend that does a podcast
Lenny letter
Hello Giggles
Teen Vogue
CBS Sunday morning is my dream some day!!
I loved doing the article with Darling.
Elle women in music issue.
Paper mag
Busy Phillips is going to have a new talk show. I follow her on instagram.
The New Yorker, they always have poetry.
New York mag
LA times
12. What are your favorite brands for equipment/tech/headphones/speakers/etc
Audio Tech.
Sonos
Macintosh
Bose
13. Can you name a few key life experiences that most shaped who you are?
Moving to NYC. The Lion’s Club talent shows when I was little really hooked me into music and making it my thing. The theatre department at Wesleyan in Lincoln, Nebraska instilled a real sense of discipline and work ethic when making art that has really stuck with me my whole career whether music or acting.
I used to run away a lot but it would just be around to the other side of the lake at my grandparents house or to the car. I’d bring coloring books and a caboodles box with stuff. I think I realized early on that I really needed space to hear my own thoughts; that other people around me really affect me and I’m very empathetic. I think writing songs by myself or being on stage is a way to turn down all the noise of the world. I love being with my friends and family but creative time to myself is really soothing to me.
14. Do you collect anything?
I like band merch. I buy a lot of snack food protein bars, and just hoard it in my cupboards. Gummy candy.
15. How would you describe your style? Who are your style icons?
Growing up and still, I’ve always really loved Gwen Stefani, but I wouldn’t say I necessarily dress like her. I also like Lana Del Rey. I feel like my style is in transition right now. But I like my hair super blonde as possible. I like a lot of t-shirts and torn denim and overalls and onsies and cool jackets. White shoes. Delicate jewelry if any. Really into mascara and lashes and eyeliner.
16. How has your acting career influenced your music?
Every time I have to be a new character and go to a set in a new place, I have new stories and a new environment that can spark song ideas.
Some acting roles (like Walking Dead and Spring Awakening have lead people to my music.) And having audience is obviously important for fueling a music career.
17. Are there any artists you look up to whose career you would like to emulate?
I used to think so, but now I sort of feel like I’m doing my own thing that makes me happy. Creative careers are sort of unpredictable no matter how much you try to shape them. I think I’m happy to just keep getting work whether it be in music or televison or theatre. I’m happiest while I’m making stuff and finishing stuff.
18. How is ‘Oh Jonathan’ an evolution from ‘This Is War’?
How have you grown as an artist in the years since? I’ve spent a lot of time experimenting. I was actually working on a completely different album called “Shadows’ or “Shadow in a Room” and I have all those songs so maybe I will eventually finish that record, but ‘Oh Jonathan’ just sort of naturally wrote itself. I think emotionally I had to feel that relationship had to be seen or hold some weight and it never got that in real life, so maybe that’s why I felt a strong desire to write all these songs.
Many of the songs on my last album This is War I had played out with a band before recording. These songs on Oh Jonathan, I created in the studio just me and Ben Greenspan the producer, so that was a big difference.
19. Can you tell us a little bit about inspiration behind the “Boy Band Hero” video?
Well I really wanted to work with Jason who directed it and I really like simple videos so that the images support the song and you listen to the song closer rather than the image overtaking the song and the song becoming soundtrack. We did this in a one shot with a very slow pull back, and mixed in images from when I was growing in Nebraska from various sporting, school events. I found the Kinks shirt on e-bay.
20. Can you describe the album in five words?
Daydream windy whispers lost muse
21. Which song do you find to be the most autobiographical and why?
They are all extremely autobiographical, most of the scenes I describe really happened tho maybe not in exact order or specifics or maybe some I exaggerate.
22. What are the most prevalent ideas/themes/inspiration on your album?
Wanting companionship, isolation, unrequited love, imagination, immaturity, growing up, sobriety
23. Were there any current/world events that influenced you or that you specifically wanted to address on this album? How did they translate into the songs?
I think social media makes it very difficult to move on from a past relationship, past life. I think you can make up a lot of stories in your head and feel isolated but also inspired in certain ways because of social media. I don’t directly address social media in my songs but I think they played into the creation of them.
24. What is the most interesting thing about this album to you?
The trumpet solo in Loser.
25. What did you learn about yourself during the making of this album?
I recognized time passing in a different way and aging, I learned more about gratitude and steadiness and process.

The Weekend Warrior 12/13/19: JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL, BLACK CHRISTMAS, RICHARD JEWELL, BOMBSHELL and more!
Woooooooo!!! We’re starting to get to the end of the year with only three more weekends of new movies before we’re into 2020, which on one hand, has to be better than 2019, but maybe not in terms of box office with no “Avengers” or “Star Wars” movie in sight.
Sony Pictures is releasing the second-to-last sequel of the weekend, JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL, which brings back all of your faves, including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and introduces a new character played by Awkwafina. I reviewed the movie over at The Beat, and also discussed its box office prospects
I also will have a review of Sophia Takal’s horror remake BLACK CHRISTMAS (Universal) over at The Beat, but that’s mainly interesting since it’s the second remake of the ‘70s horror movie, this one produced by Blumhouse. I really liked Sophia Takal’s previous movie Always Shine, so I’m definitely interested to see what she does with a mainstream horror film.
You can read my reviews of both those movies over at The Beat, although the Black Christmas review is embargoed until Thursday night… make of that what you will. Plus you can read more about the three wide releases over at my weekly Box Office Preview.
One movie I haven’t reviewed over there is Clint Eastwood’s latest, RICHARD JEWELL (Warner Bros.), which stars Paul Walter Hauser as the famed Atlanta security guard who discovered a bomb in the city’s Centennial Park and was then accused of planting the bomb there to be seen as a hero. The movie also stars Sam Rockwell (as Richard’s lawyer), Kathy Bates (as Richard’s mother), Jon Hamm as the FBI guy who is after him and Olivia Wilde as the Atlanta reporter who first breaks the story about Jewell being a suspect. I’m going to try to write a mini-review for this one, but long and short of it, is that this is another really good movie from Eastwood, and if I get a chance, I will write more about it soon.
LIMITED RELEASES
There are a bunch of great movies coming out in limited release, some that will expand wider later in the month.
First and foremost is Jay Roach’s BOMBSHELL (Lionsgate), starring Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly and Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson, and if you know those names, then you might already realize that this film written by Charles Randolph (The Big Short) is about the Fox News sexual abuse scandal. Margot Robbie also stars in this one, as does John Lithgow as Roger Aisles, plus there’s lots of other great character actors in roles as people you might know from the news (both on camera and behind the scenes). I was hoping to write a fuller review of this and maybe still will but didn’t have time before getting this column out. Regardless, this is a very intriguing and entertaining film (just like The Big Short) with fantastic performances by all. The movie will expand nationwide next Friday.
Josh and Ben Safdie are back with UNCUT GEMS (A24), starring Adam Sandler as a New York jewelry merchant who gets his hands on a rare South African gem, and then spends the entire movie trying to get it back after lending it out to star basketball player Kevin Garnett (playing himself). I wasn’t really a very big fan of the Safdies’ Good Time, which Millennial critics tend to cream all over, but Uncut Gems is definitely better even if it’s similarly manic. Sandler’s definitely good in the role, but awards-worthy? Not even close… I think this ia good movie being sold by people as a great movie, and I couldn’t disagree more. If you liked Good Time, you’ll probably like this, too. This will be nationwide on Christmas Day.
Terrence Malick is also back, continuing his amazingly prolific degree of filmmaking in his mid-70s with A HIDDEN LIFE (Fox SEarchlight), a three-hour drama about an Austrian farmer (August Diehl) who refuses to swear allegiance to Hitler as WWII begins, which first makes him a bit of a pariah in his rural community but eventually gets him thrown in prison for treason. Valerie Pachner is quite terrific as his wife, and the movie has some great smaller roles for Matthias Schoenaerts, the late Michael Nyqvist, Bruno Ganz and Jürgen Prochnow. If you’re a fan of Malick’s better films than
Kristen Stewart plays French New Wave actress Jean Seberg in Benedict Andrews’ SEBERG (Amazon), about how the actress got into a relationship with Hakim Jamal (played by Anthony Mackie), causing trouble for her career. The movie also stars Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood), Jack O’Connell, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Root, and it will get a limited release this weekend.
Stephen and Robbie Amell star in Jeff Chan’s Code 8 (Elevation Pictures), Robbie playing Connor Reed, a guy with superpowers living in a world where those with powers are minimalized and living in poverty. In desperate need of money to help his ailing mother, Connor gets in with a powered thug named Garrett (played by his cousin, Stephen) to use his powers for elaborate heists. It’s a surprisingly good movie, mainly due to Jeff Chan’s ability to create a big movie on a seemingly limited budget.
You can check out the trailer and Chan’s original short film that inspired the feature below, and my interview with Robbie Amell will be on The Beat on Thursday sometime.

Steven Luke’s The Great War (Saban/Lionsgate), opening in select cities Fridays, takes place during the last days of WWI where a regiment of African-American “Buffalo Soldiers” are trapped behind enemy lines. When one escapes, he asked to join an all-white troop to find the survivors.s
An interesting doc, especially for lovers of dance, is Alla Kogvan’s documentary Cunningham (Magnolia), which uses 3D technology to explore the life and work of the late choreographer Merce Cunningham (who would be celebrating his centennial anniversary this year), combining archival footage with newly-created performances of Cunningham’s greatest work. This movie reminded me quite a bit of Wim Wenders’ doc Pina in that I enjoyed this, despite having zero to no interest in dance in general. It will open at the Film Forumin New York on Friday, as well as Film at Lincoln Centeruptown, the Royal in L.A, the Arclight in Sherman Oaks and Edwards Westpark 8 in Irvine.
Xavier Dolan’s latest film The Death and Life of John Donovan (Momentum), stars Kit Harington, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Thandie Newton, Jacob Tremblay and more. It’s about the relationship between a young actor and a TV star that takes place ten years after the latter’s death. It will open in select cities and On Demand.
Lastly, there’s Danny Abeckaser’s MAFIA drama Mob Town (Saban Films), starring David Arquette, Jennifer Esposito, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and PJ Byrne.
Also, next Monday, Trafalgar Releasing is releasing Gorillaz: Reject False Icons, a new concert doc about Damon Alban’s Blur spin-off group with comic artist Jamie Hewett.
STREAMING AND CABLE
Michael Bay’s action-comedy 6 UNDERGROUND (Netflix), starring Ryan Reynolds, will get a very limited release Weds. before debuting on the service on Friday. I really don’t know much about it other than it’s about six specialists come together to do stuff.

Castleberry Hill’s famed Elliott Street Pub is officially for sale
Restored (but unpolished) property from 1870s hopes to capitalize on area’s resurgence with $3.3M ask
A historic Castleberry Hill pub and inn that’s become a hub for tourists, laborers, federal attorneys, Hollywood film crews, and everyone else is officially up for sale.
Fifteen years after finding the formerly dilapidated, circa-1870s property on a midnight bike ride, brothers Peter and Mike Jakob are aiming to sell the Elliott Street Deli and Pub, along with a three-unit Airbnb property upstairs and ancillary components—and to capitalize on the area’s current building boom and planned, billion-dollar transformation.
In promotional materials provided to Curbed Atlanta today, the property is described as “turnkey,” and the owners’ intent for selling the business is “to leave their legacy to its next caretaker.”
The asking price: $3.3 million.
As selling points, listing agent Lucas Carter, of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties, points to nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the under-construction Reverb by Hard Rock hotel, a revived State Farm Arena, and a “plethora of downtown development projects and events” in coming years.
This separate entrance for the inn lends perspective on proximity to the Gulch across the street, where Los Angeles-based developer CIM is planning a mega-development called Centennial Yards.
The Jakob brothers, former owners of a contracting and building business, stumbled into the bar industry upon finding the nearly 150-year-old building and then opening the pub in 2006.
As reported last week, the owners have been irked recently by City of Atlanta plans to soon install parking meters along Elliott Street, a move Mike Jakob described to Curbed as “a direct attack on a small business.” But an eventual sale has been in the cards since the beginning.
The 51 Elliott Street building, now a dive-bar icon in the shadow of downtown, originally served as a carriage house for the central city and railroad industry.
Between the early 1950s and 1982, it housed jazz club Dee’s Birdcage—Isaac Hayes, Gladys Knight, and Curtis Mayfield all performed there—and one of the first black-owned real estate, loan, and insurance companies in Atlanta, according to marketing materials.
Above the pub, the Elliott Street Inn is a three-unit Airbnb option now, with bookings into 2020. A conversion to office space or the personal home of future owners is possible, per marketing materials.
As with so many places around the city, blight and disinvestment took a toll on Castleberry Hill in the 1980s and ’90s, and the abandoned Elliott Street structure was boarded up and burned out for years.
The Jakob brothers bought the ailing property for $315,000 in 2004, according to city property records.
A gut renovation cost nearly 1 million initially and created the building’s nucleus: a cozy pub of just 600 square feet, with room for about 30 people total, as Vice reported last year in declaring the space “Atlanta Best Bar.”
The Jakobs told Vice they never intended to be bar owners for so long, but destruction of the Mitchell Street bridge next door—a crucial artery to downtown, since rebuilt—made the waiting game inevitable. (Indeed, the owners had listed the property for sale five years ago for $1.5 million.) The bridge redo ultimately paid off, however, as the pub became a social magnet for construction workers erecting The Benz and numerous other projects within shouting distance.
The pub’s classic dive decor—and room for about a dozen seated patrons at once.
The sale, as Carter notes, includes the businesses, a 2,500-square-foot parking lot with carports used for events, and storage space.
TV and movie productions have been booking the property about eight times per year—the pub has recently appeared in Kate Hudson’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Kevin Hart’s Ride Along, as two examples—and shooting rates are established, said Carter.
A basement events space called The 51 includes a separate bar.
The sale actually includes two addresses (51 and 49 Elliott Street), and the city has approved plans for a potential third-floor addition to the bar building, per listing materials.
A second building could also be erected on the concrete pad next door, allowing for another Castleberry storefront or additional space for pub patrons to belly up.
