new hire on first job at the TUNNEL only after seeing the pay and nothing else (he cant leave no matter what he does now):

the voices come talking about this "seven red suns" and their "ascension" and their "holy crimson dawn" and his partner guarding died via boiling steam burning him alive after he told the voices to shut up

The Train

So. I got on the wrong train.

I knew I had to take the red line, but I got on the red line train that went the wrong way. And I only realized when I was quite far.

I got off the train, because that's always the first step, and stared at the map until it turned into a bunch of meaningless colored wriggles.

And that's when I heard a voice behind me.

"Hey, Bardie?"

I had no idea who Bardie was, but then realized it must be a reference to my uniform (my academy is something something Bard Preparatory School, but everyone calls it Bard Academy or just Bard).

Turning around, I saw this young adult in a work outfit with a lanyard that seemed vaguely familiar. His jacket was loose in the shoulders and his hair was a mess and he had this big friendly smile. He reminded me a bit of the big soppy golden dog that one of my mom's friends own, but in human form.

"Ya look a bit lost there, mate. Say, my school's not far from yours, how bout I ride with you on the train and point you in the right direction when we get off? I would walk you there but that sounds creepy, so I think that'll work fine while not crossing boundaries."

He also sounded strangely British.

Anyway, I agreed and we went on the same train in the correct direction. We didn't talk, but it wasn't in an awkward way; we both were the only ones on the train that were staring at the windows with our faces so close they were almost touching the filthy glass, reading the graffiti.

Once we got to the stop, he shoved a few dollars in my hands.

"Here, for the ticket, or if you have one of those fancy passes you can go get a snack or something. Good luck!"

I don't remember the last time I was the recipient to a random stranger's kindness like that before. I hope he's doing okay.

Also later on I told this to Kitty and he was like "Hold up, we're in the same complex just one tower's width apart, why didn't you ask if we could go together? That's it, from now on the three of us (him, his sister and I) are gonna meet at the foot of your tower every morning and go to school together so that way nobody gets lost".

He was bossy about it, but I was relieved. I would have never had had the guts to ask anyway.

So, yeah. Doing fine.

I also test-sent that message about me getting the wrong train earlier on my phone, so the Internet works? Just gonna see what it looks like on the phone bill before I make it a habit.
