I'm ngl the longer it's been since I've played TOTK the less I like it I think
#do not get me wrong i think the game is fun to play and that was like 80% of where my concern lied#but godddd the story sucks so bad. i love the draconification bit with zelda but the rest. augh#why do we need Another ancient civilization literally appearing out of nowhere and infesting hyrule with its ruins#they got rid of all the sheikah stuff with literally no explanation to shove the zonai into the region#but why are we even focusing on the ancient civilizations again????#it would have made so much more sense to focus on hyrule in the present day. work with the npcs to make hyrule greater than it was#move on from the calamity and turn hyrule into a strong bustling country#the zonai were hinted at in botw but they feel so shoehorned in because they have nothing to do with anything in botw#i dont care about the secret stones we had champion abilities#i dont care about the sages the champion descendants had the champions to look up to#i dont care about rauru and sonia because sonia got fridged hard and rauru's character is flat. pleasant but flat#and i dont care at all about ganondorf because the most interesting thing he ever does is do the gmod face#its so frustrating watching the same 'woah secret stones! sages??' cutscene 4 times with Da New Sages and its so frustrating#watching the other characters speculate what happened to zelda and chase down her ghostly paper trail#when like. i can see her in the sky. she's over there guys#the memories were one of my favorite things in botw bc they all subtly stitched together the story of what happened#in totk they are incredibly plot dense and very linear and very confusing to watch out of order. which is easy to do#the one where sonia gets murked is like. the third memory i found#id at least be more interested in all the zonai stuff if link was the one to get teleported to the past while zelda has to try and save him#giving zelda agency. craziest thing they could have done#ok sorry this is a Lot of salt but just. raaaaagh#maybe my expectations were astronomical but outside of gameplay totk brings nothing good to the table imo#i'd significantly rather they made botw2 more gameplay focused where you can do something like make meaningful changes to the map#tarrey town style#than try to shove a whole different zelda game's plot into a carefully constructed preexisting world#i think the zonai story would be cool in its own game but not botw

Don't get me started on BOTW?
OH MY GOD DONT GET ME STARTED ON BOTW
i wish read-mores were on mobile bc this is LONG and RAMBLY and COMPLETELY UNSTRUCTURED.
(thank you for this sskksblkapbk im indebted to you)
Its a story of many questions. Why do the Rito and Zora exist at the same time? Who/what are the Zonau? What caused Calamity Ganon 10100 years ago? What is the seal and who placed it? Why is Arbiters Grounds buried? What lies within the broken temple in Dracozu Lake? WHY IS GANONDORF UNDERNEATH THE CASTLE? These are just some questions I can come up with off of the top of my head.
This is why I love BOTW. As comfy as the gameplay and story are, I can never top the feeling of excitement when I read or compose a new theory. Ive gone on numerous "research" missions to talk about this stuff. I know its all in vain, because Nintendo is more concerned with pushing a product rather than stitching together a story, but its so fun.
My favorite subject of speculation right now is the Zonau. Their name comes from "nazo," the word for mystery. There was a ZD thread that mapped out all of their structures in the region near Dracozu Lake. The Zonau revered and built statues of dragons (symbolizing Farore), owls (Nayru),and boars (Din). A user modded Typhlo Tuins to remove the fog, revealing that the entire location was indeed Zonau architecture. Inside of Typhlo, there is a luminous stone surrounded on all sides by 6 dragon heads. Also, the Zonau are described as a war-like, magic using people that reached too close to the sun (so to speak) and mysteriously dissapeared, leaving no trace. Additionaly, they worshipped a water dragon (Farosh rises out of the mountain at dawn) and their Faron home was carved out by a dragon.
My personal theory is that they were once the people that later were banished to the Twilight Realm. They worshipped the spirit of courage and lightning, Farosh, harnessing the power of thunder and souls (luminous stones) to create a dark school of magic. Their powerful magic lead to a war over the Sacred Realm. and their eventual banishment. All records of them were expunged, and knowledge of their magic was lost to time. They suffered the ultimate punishment. My only evidence for this is the prescense of dragons on Twili architecture and the Fused Shadow. but...THATS JUST A THEORY, A GAME THEORY....
Also I just want to point out how the trailer for BOTW2 has luminous stones EVERYWHERE, Zonau-styled paintings, the seal has Zonau bangles, and the hero in the tapestry has red hair...I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS????!! ALSO LIKE THEY WORSHIP THE SYMBOL OF COURAGE? WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS???
Okay now Im gonna talk about the characters. The champions are awesome people and the fact that they have 0 chance of being in another game hurts my soul. The "younger generation" didnt really hit it off with me so idc...
BOTW Zelda is the first voice-acted Zelda (if you dont count her singing in SS). Shes her own character (FINALLY), and I couldnt ask for a better one. She's a scientist, and if you dont believe me, go look at her study in Hyrule Castle. I firmly believe that if Zelda was allowed to help the Sheikah investigate the Guardians, the Calamity would have been neutralized much quicker. If things would have been different, maybe Hyrule under her rule would have made leaps in technology...?
Okay my minds bouncing everywhere...uh, I really appreciate how this game is "subtly dark." Majora has that same feeling, where the apocalypse is (literally) looming over your head, but the sky is still blue and flowers still grow. Picture it: All of the people in Link's life; the kingdom, his family, the other champions, and anyone he knew that wasn't Zora or Sheikah is dead. He has no memories, and has been half-dead for 100 years.
Okay my drive to ramble has died down, sorry for how long this is slbbjsbjls
Thank you again for letting me go off!!!
