Aftermath of a Full Moon

Remus' head had been pounding all day.
The sting from the frozen ice pack over his eyes was nothing compared to relentless pounding inside of his skull. It had been going on for hours now, creeping its way in as a mild headache early that morning to escalating to a full blown migraine attack as the day went on.
Now it was an hour past dinnertime, and Remus wasn't any better. Remus hadn't eaten a single thing that day, but with how horribly sick to his stomach he felt, he wasn't sure he would've been able to hold anything down.
This wasn't the worst migraine he'd ever experienced, but it was bad enough to knock him out of commission for the day. He had skipped all of his classes today, too exhausted and too miserable to even attempt to attend.
Remus was nauseated beyond belief. His eyes felt like they were borderline burning they were so hot. He was achy in his neck and shoulders -- and not to mention, the throbbing pain in his head hadn't let up in the slightest.
The most recent full moon had been a hard one. Some months were simply better than others, and this hadn't been the best...nor the worst.
Remus hated how inconsistent he felt after each full moon.
Some months he would bounce back in a day or so. Other months, the recovery could last for weeks -- and by the time he felt better, it was time for the full moon again.
This one was rough on him, and he was definitely feeling it.
He had been in bed all day. He was still wearing what he slept in the night before, and he was lying in nearly the same position that he was in when Sirius and James left for the day.
Remus hadn't seen a stitch of daylight that day. Both because there were a series of thunderstorms rolling through for the next couple days and because he had drawn the curtains, leaving himself in the dark for the entirety of the day.
Any kind of light or noise agitated him, and at this point, Remus was willing to do anything to make it stop. Remus had done nothing but lie still and listen to the rain and thunder. He knew it would pass, but that wasn't any kind of consolation when he was going through at in that moment.
Remus didn't have any clue as to what time it was. It felt like it had been days, but he knew that once James and Sirius returned, that would mean it was the end of the day.
You, James, and Sirius left early that morning when they caught on that Remus wasn't feeling well, and they hadn't been back since to give him some quiet and space. You were worried about him because it always broke your heart to see any of them not at their best.
Remus hadn't given any of you much of a proper interaction that day, which all three of you understood given how bad he was feeling. Still, Remus felt a tinge of guilt for being so distant.
As if on cue, he identified two heavy pairs of footsteps outside the door, which he knew meant the arrival of his two best friends.
Remus was glad his eyes were covered when they opened the door because the light beaming in might've pushed him over the edge.
"Hey mate," James spoke as quietly as he entered, knowing that any kind noise just made it worse. "Any better?"
Remus could only shake his head, swallowing hard and continuing to focus on his breathing.
"If you're still feeling sick," Sirius reached into the pocket of his robes to retrieve a small vial of a medium orange colored potion. "I snagged you a dose of this stuff. I think it's a hard swallow but will settle the nausea."
Sirius left it on the top of Remus' trunk that was on the floor at the foot of his bed, and Remus croaked out a thank you.
"Thanks, Pads. I'll get to it in a minute," He shuddered. "I'm scared to move."
Remus had finally found a position to lie in that was semi-tolerable. He hadn't moved an inch in hours, and he was beginning to lose sensation in his limbs.
Sirius and James left the lights off, using their wands to navigate the room.
You were always a bit nervous whenever Remus was having a hard time after a full moon. He was so sensitive in every aspect after a moon, you always worried you'd make it worse.
That's why you were extra quiet when you moved around and didn't say much -- and when you did speak, you were very soft spoken.
Remus hadn't heard you walk in because of this, and he was feeling bad for not paying you any attention for the last couple days...particularly today when he really went down for the count.
"Where's baby girl?" Remus asked, and your head perked up. "She in her dorm tonight?"
"No, she's here." James flashed you his movie star smile.
"Hi, Rem." You said softly, sticking close to Sirius and lingering around him.
"Hey pretty girl," He responded genuinely, but not even a ghost of a smile appeared on his face. "I didn't hear you come in."
You didn't say anything else, only listening to Sirius and James talk to Remus.
"We brought your assignments," James said, referring to what he had missed in class that day. "It's not that much. You'll have the weekend to do it."
"Yeah. And [Y/N] brought you some leftovers in case you get hungry." Sirius said.
You indeed were holding a wrapped plate of food from dinner, which you had forgotten about until Sirius mentioned it. You left it next to the potion for Remus to get when he wanted it.
"Thanks, bun. You didn't have to do that for me," He said, pressing the ice pack further down onto his eyes. "I'll get to it when I feel more settled."
"Drink that potion, mate." Sirius said. "Promise it'll work wonders."
"Why don't you take it to him, baby?" James suggested, and you silently obliged.
Remus heard your feet creep to the side of his bed, glass vial in your hand and uncorked. Remus reached his hand out, taking it into his grip when you placed it in his palm.
Remus raised his head just enough to gulp down the bitter potion, setting his head back down as soon as it was in his system. He handed the now empty vial back to you, giving your wrist an appreciative squeeze.
He noticed that you scurried away as soon as he dropped your hand, which only made his guilt of neglecting you worse.
"You're staying the night, yeah?" James asked you, referring to how you still had your school bag and shoes on.
You only nodded, setting your bag down gently next to Sirius' bed and unlacing your shoes to go with it. Sirius and James shared a look, both of them picking up on how you were acting.
And maybe, just maybe, you had a bit of a soft spot for Remus that was different from Sirius and James. Seeing Remus like this was hard on you.
And Remus knew he wasn't the most pleasant to be around after a bad full moon. He was irritable, short-tempered, and just overall not feeling well. And there had been a time or two where Remus had snapped at you or said something that hurt your feelings.
Remus always came around and had a conversation with you, apologizing and explaining that it wasn't your fault.
But all it took was one time for you to be pretty shut down when Remus was coming off a full moon.
They knew you were pretty reserved when Remus was like this, so they didn't think too much of it.
It was going to be a quiet night for everybody, since Remus was going to need the quiet and darkness to keep his head from exploding off of his shoulders.
The next hour or so went by, and the three of you were silent as you traversed through the room, choosing tasks that didn't require any noise or high energy.
James was stationed at his desk, using nothing more than his desk lamp to do his homework and work on some Quidditch things. Sirius was sitting on his bed with a deck of cards, working on some new trick he had learned from somewhere. You were laying on your stomach, flipping through a new Muggle novel that you had picked up from a friend.
Remus hadn't said a word, still lying flat with his eyes covered and head pounding. As the minutes passed, you couldn't stand to see him like this.
Most of the time, the best thing to do was to leave Remus alone and let it pass -- but it pained you to see him so pitiful. You closed your book, shifting to go to get off the bed. Sirius caught your gaze on Remus and knew what you were headed to do.
"Hey, pup." Sirius whispered, grabbing your ankle that was next to him to stop you from approaching him. "Moony's not feeling so good. Let's give him some more time, yeah?"
Remus heard Sirius, of course -- it was so quiet there was no way he couldn't. Remus couldn't deny you like that, not after he'd been so far the last couple of days.
"No, s'alright," Remus sat up very slowly, tossing the useless ice pack that was beginning to turn room temperature at the foot of his bed. "C'mere, bunny."
Your eyes looked to James, who only gave you a nod of approval. Still, you didn't move.
"I don't want to make it worse." You fiddled with your fingers, bending them nervously and hearing them pop.
"Not gonna make it worse, my love." He shifted to make room on his mattress, groaning at the aching in his muscles. "Come sit."
Sirius gave your backside a light tap, pushing you into motion. Your feet shuffled to Remus' bed, your body slowly crawling onto his mattress and snuggling next to him. He wrapped an arm around your waist, his hand resting on the outside of your thigh.
"You could never make it worse," He pressed a kiss to your temple, sighing as he held you close. "It was just a rough moon this time."
"Do you feel any better?" You asked.
Truthfully, he didn't. The potion had settled his nausea, but for the most part he still felt like he had all day. But he could tell you were worried, and he didn't see any sense in worrying you further.
"A little bit," He said. "I think I'll drink a dose of Sleeping Draught tonight and be good as new tomorrow."
Sirius was still shuffling his deck of cards, giving you a reassuring smile.
"He's gonna be just fine," He said. "Promise."
Remus nodded in agreement, chuckling when you snuggled closer to him. In a way, he felt better having you close to him. He always loved having you around, and knowing that you weren't sore with him made him feel better.
"I'm sorry I haven't seen you much this week," He apologized, kissing the crown of your head when you rested your head on his shoulder. "I owe you one, hm?"
"No, it's okay. I knew you weren't feeling well." You said.
"You're so patient," Remus laughed. "I don't know how you put up with us sometimes."
Sirius and James both laughed at that because they agreed...and found it ironic considering Remus was the least difficult of the three.
"Can I sleep with Rem tonight?" You asked James, since it was technically his turn to have you tonight.
Remus' heart did a joyful leap, but he looked at James for a response. It wasn't often that there was a change in the rotation, but there were special occasions where you wanted to switch it up -- and most of the time, it wasn't an issue.
"Up to you, mate. I don't mind." He grinned.
Remus looked at you, smiling at your eyes that were all lit up at getting to spend time with him.
"Sure, doll. How about you get one of your blankets from your dorm so you don't get cold tonight?"
The suggestion hung in the air for only a moment, a gentle reminder of the care that was woven into the fabric of your relationship. You were up on your feet in seconds, giddy with excitement as you rushed out of the room to make the journey to your dorm to return with what you would need for the night.
The three of them laughed at your eagerness, taking that as a sign to start winding down for an early night in.
Remus knew he needed to eat something before bed, since he would feel sluggish in the morning if he didn't. Remus reached over the end of his bed, taking his plate of leftovers into his lap.
"You sure you feel alright?" Sirius asked, reaching into his trunk to toss Remus a plastic utensil.
Remus caught it, and started taking small bites and chewing slowly.
"As good as I'm gonna feel tonight," He sighed. "A night of sleep should set me straight."
Remus hadn't realized how hungry he was, which wasn't surprising considering he hadn't eaten all day and had been preoccupied trying to get some relief.
"Do you need anything else?" James asked.
"Nah. I'm alright," Remus replied. "Just don't tell her I'm still feeling bad."
They understood what he meant. Remus never wanted to cause any trouble, and he definitely didn't want anyone making a fuss over him. If he needed help, he would ask.
Remus did his best on eating, clearing about half of what you had brought him from The Great Hall. It wasn't much, but it was enough to provide him some fuel.
Remus showered too, which was the most he had done all day. He stood under the stream of hot water, hoping it would melt away some of the tension and pounding in his head. It didn't do much other than refresh him a bit, but even that was a nice feeling to have.
Remus re-entered the dorm with a fresh T-shirt and sweats, laughing when he saw you were already snuggled and settled in his bed, curled up with your book to get a few more pages in before it was time to go to bed. Sirius and James were also in their beds, finishing up their tasks for the night.
"You always know how to make yourself at home, huh?" He teased.
You looked up from your book, a small smile on your face.
"I guess it's a habit now." You closed the cover and set it aside.
He moved towards his trunk, opening it and retrieving a vial of Sleeping Draught. He swallowed the dark blue potion with ease, hoping it would kick in quickly.
He moved towards the bed, the exhaustion from the day still evident in his movements. But there was a spark in his eyes now, a spark that hadn't been there before. He climbed into the bed next to you, his body sinking into the familiar comfort of his mattress.
His hair was still damp from the shower, the droplets of water catching the faint light in the room. He looked at you, his eyes reflecting a quiet kind of happiness.
He kissed your cheek when he pulled you close, whispering in your ear as you got settled.
"Did you tell Siri and James goodnight?" He asked, and you nodded.
"She did. With plenty of sympathy kisses for little Jamesie." Sirius laughed, and James launched a pillow at his face.
Sirius shrieked and continued to cackle and poke fun at James who really wasn't hurt in the slightest.
"You're fine, baby. Enjoy being with Moony tonight," James smiled genuinely. "I'll have you tomorrow."
You weren't listening much to their conversation. You were more focused on Remus, watching his eyelashes flutter as he kept his eyes closed to keep his head from pounding worse. He could feel himself growing sleepy, and he hoped that sleep would surely take him.
"Are you sure you're okay?" You asked, eyes wide and full of concern.
Remus had been asked that question for what felt like a million times that day -- but he appreciated the care.
"Yeah, my love." He kissed your forehead. "I am."
And Remus would be okay with a little more time. He would wake up the next morning with a clear and pain-free head, with nothing more than some mild fatigue and a desperation to see something other than the walls of the dormitory.
And over the next few days, he would spend his time making it up to you -- spending every spare moment he had with you and giving you as much affection as he could spare.
Remus would be alright. With you, he always would be.

your abt to tell me sirius hasnât used sex pollen in his tea.. i mean i see him as a total tea addict and the thought of him doing it without you knowing is justđĽ´đĽ´
Look i dont know who has been poisoning your mind and telling u that wont happen, but i am here to make corrections.
Lets get this straight, Sirius doses himself âaccidentallyâ all the time, just to pin you down and lament that he âcanât help it, dovie,â and âyouâre like it, i know you do, fuuck youâre squeezinâ so tight,â. Itâs kind of liberating for him, actually, to not have to think about what heâs doing, but to just do it. Plus, thereâs the added bonus that the effects of the pollen can last for hours, which means he gets to have you nonstop for so long without having to take a break.
So, one day maybe he decides to try it on you. Not much, mind you, because youâd never felt the effects before, and he had no idea how much it would do to you. Heâd make tea for the both of you, with his untainted (just for the first time, he needed to make sure youâre okay), and watch as you drain every last drop.
Fifteen minutes later and youâre completely incoherent, grinding relentlessly against his denim-clad thigh and babbling something along the lines of âpleaseâ and âneeditâ. You grow frustrated very quickly with the button to his jeans, resorting to just tugging on the waistband as you make yourself cum on his leg for the second time in as many minutes.
Sirius would eventually take pity on you and pull his cock out of his jeans and present it to you. You grin so widely Sirius is sure youâre going to split your lip, but you donât pay him any mindas you shove your pyjama shorts to the side and sink down onto him. The second your hips meet, your pussy convulses around him creating a ring of creamy release around the base of his cock.
âFuckinâ hell, sweetness, youâre even tighter than you always are,â his calloused fingers dig into your plush hips and anchoring you to his body. You struggle against his hold, adamant to start grinding against him, trying desperately to get the friction you need, causing Sirius to hiss at the stimulation, âJesus, just slow down a little, honey, I donât wanna cum just yet,â
That did nothing to dissuade you. In reality, the second he mentioned him cumming, you let out a very uncharacteristic growl as you push him flat to the worn sofa cushions and raising and dropping your hips with a desperation heâd never seen from you before.

roommate!james potter who doesnât really get why you donât understand that he like likes you (me trying to understand characters & theirnpersonalities better) âPerv,â you giggle, shoving the comforter into Jamesâs face. You shimmied on a shirt at least a size too big for you and pulled a pair of Jamesâs Calvin Klein boxers over your black underwear.
âNothing I havenât seen the night before,â James muses, wrapping his arms around you as you tried your best to walk forward. âDunno why you donât walk around shirtless like me when itâs summer. You got great boobs and youâre actually physically hurting me but keeping them away.â During his rant, Jamesâs hands had snuck up your shirt and groped your tits, fiddling with your nipple with his thumb.
âBecause itâs weird! Iâts not like Iâm your girlfriend or anything. Weâre just roommates,â you shrugged, reaching up to grab Nutella from a cabinet, giving James the opportunity to run his hands down your hips.
âReally?â
You sighed. âYes James. Weâve literally talked about this and how- how many pieces of toast do you want?-â you asked mid-sentence.
âTwo, lovie,â James answered, resting his chin on your head, watching your blurry movements without his glasses.
âAnyway, James you actually have to like like girls instead of wanted to have sex with them all the time to have a girlfriend,â you continued.
âI like like you. Thought you knew,â James replied, large hands going back up your shirt to rest on your boobs.
âWhatever, Jamie. Lets eat breakfast before you get all- all Jamie-like,â you said, bustling sround the small kitchen with the man curled into you like a parasite.
âOkay, lovie.â

Cindy Lou Who
james potter x slytherin!female!reader
summary: you and lily have been polar opposites from birth, disconnected in everything. but when the one thing she has crosses the bounds, you can't avoid it even if it destroys you.
warnings: eventual smut! 18+ heavy angst, cursing , jealousy
a/n: so this is the winter special, yay! this chapter is kind of a teaser/chapter 1 but the next chapters will be longer and more angsty with james and y/n.
i hope you enjoy and as always, i apologize if you hate this!
chapter 1
You Loved Lily.
It wasnât a strange or unusual thing to sayâit was simply the truth.
Most people would have expected the two of you to hate each other. To be cold, distant, maybe even hostile. After all, she was Gryffindor, and you were Slytherin. In their eyes, that was all that mattered.
But you never saw it that way.
Lily was your sisterâmaybe not by blood, but in every way that counted, you knew she was. Youâd been adopted into the Evans family at five, after the tragic death of your parents in a horrific house fire. Most believed it was because they had refused to bow to the Dark Lord's ideals, but no one could prove it.
Before that, your parents had distanced themselves from magic, moving next door to the Evans family, where they quickly became as close as family. And when they died, arrangements had been made for you to be adopted by the Evans family, should anything ever happen to them.
This had been because all your blood relatives believed in the same blood supremacy and Dark Lord bullshit your parents had fought against.
And you were glad to have been embraced by the entire family, maybe not including Petunia.
It was only a small blessing that you and Lily both received your Hogwarts letters in the same year. Youâd felt for Petuniaâwho had never been particularly warm toward youâbut Lily had always welcomed you with open arms. From that moment on, the two of you were inseparable.
The train ride to Hogwarts had been full of excitementâlaughing over exploding bonbons, discussing what the Sorting Hat might decide for you. It was supposed to be the start of something unforgettable.
But then the Sorting Hat made its decision for you both.
Lily was placed in Gryffindor.
And you, despite everything youâd hoped and fought for, were sorted into Slytherin.
The moment the Hatâs decision was final, it was like a wedge had driven itself between you and Lily. It felt as though the very essence of who you were had been split down the middle: she was good, pure, and nobleâGryffindor. And you? You were suddenly cast as the enemy, the âdarkâ side.
It was devastating.
At first, you tried to stay close to Lily. You would try to hang out with her at breakfast, walking with her on her way to classes. But it didnât take long before everything started to unravel.
The argument that broke you both came in third year, right after the winter holidays.
âLily, I would never have let Snape call you that!â
You were furious, your arms crossed tightly over your chest as you faced her, desperate for her to see the truth.
How could she not see it?
But Lilyâs eyes were filled with hurt, the same hurt sheâd worn for weeks.
âYouâre friends with his kind,â She spat, her voice breaking as she said it, the words full of disappointment. Marlene, Mary, and James stood close by, eyes narrowed, almost as though they were guarding her from you.
You felt a surge of anger. "I came here to comfort you, and none of my friends believe in that bullshit! Youâre being irrational!" The words slipped out before you could stop them.
James stepped forward, his eyes burning with contempt. âI think you should leave. Snakes arenât appreciated here,â He said, his voice dripping with venom.
It stung. More than the insult itself, it hurt that James was speaking for Lily.
You scoffed, looking at her one last time before turning your gaze back to him. âI think this is between me and my sister, not her fanboy,â You snapped, trying to hold back the trembling in your voice. Then, more softly, you added, âI would never let anyone call you that, and you know it. I wouldâve stopped him. Why are you acting like you donât know who I am?â
There was silence. You waited, your heart in your throat, hoping for some kind of response. A softening of the tension. But nothing came.
Lily didnât mutter a word.
Instead, she looked down, her face hidden in her lap, tears streaming down her cheeks.
âFine,â you said, your voice cracking under the weight of it all. âI donât need this.â You turned sharply, your heart heavy as you strode away from her.
It was never the same after that.
Lily had tried to fix things. She reached out time and time again, but you couldn't find it in yourself to forgive her. Yeah, you were kids but she didn't believe you, and in a way, that hurt in a way you couldn't explain.
As time went on, you found comfort in the only people who understood your world: Pandora, Regulus, Evan, and Barty. They didnât judge you. They accepted you, as you were, and that was enough.
You missed having a sister, but you couldnât help but think how different things were now. Now that you were in your seventh year and she was a Prefect, getting top marks, it hadnât been a good time.
And now, seeing her laughing with the Marauders or walking through the halls with her Gryffindor friends, the gap between you both seemed impossible to bridge. She had changed. You had changed. And even though she gave you shy smiles in the halls or a wave, it hadn't been enough to fix everything.
And thatâs why a part of you dreaded winter break.
You loved going home, but you and Lily always had to pretend everything was fine, that you were still inseparable, so your parents wouldnât think you had drifted apart.
It was hard enough to answer their questions about each other when you werenât even in each otherâs lives anymore.
Your plan had been simple: retreat to your room, listen to the new ABBA album, and enjoy some much-needed peace. That was until Lily approached you in the library.
"Hey Y/N!" Lily greeted, her voice chipper yet low, as she bounded toward your table. You looked up from your book, offering her an awkward smile.
"Hello, Lily," you replied flatly, trying not to show how much her presence was already stirring your emotions.
"Um," she started, fiddling nervously with her fingers. "I just wanted to ask you something."
You raised an eyebrow, curious but guarded. "And that is?"
"Okay, so, you know how we always go to Niagara Falls for winter break, to the lodge?" She paused, waiting for you to nod. "Well, I was kinda hoping you'd come with me to James's cabin instead. Mum and Dad said I can only go if you go, and it would mean the world to me. I really think it would be funâ"
She rambled on, tripping over her words, but you were too stunned to respond at first.
You blinked at her, feeling like a deer in headlights. Deep down, you didnât want to disappoint her, but.
"No offense," you began, keeping your tone as flat as possible, "But I think Iâd rather die."
Lilyâs face fell, and she looked at you with pleading eyes. "Y/N, please! Itâs the one thing Iâm asking of you, and I think it would be good for us."
You scoffed, looking back at your book as she moved to sit across from you. "With all due respect, Lily, your friends are not my type of crowd."
"They arenât all that bad," she insisted, clearly trying to convince you.
You snorted. "Oh, and thatâs why they decided to dump yellow paint on all the first years last spring?"
"Thatâs the Marauders, and theyâre only, like, 60 percent of my friends. I really only like Remus and Peter," she argued, her frustration and humor mixing together.
You couldnât help but laugh lightly at her defense. "Sorry, Lily. Itâs gonna be a no."
You grabbed your book, standing up to leave.
But Lily stood in your way. "Iâll do anything! Your chores, your Potions homeworkâanything!"
You smiled in spite of yourself and tried to move around her. "Please, I just want to get to dinner."
"Please!" she begged, giving you her best puppy-dog eyes.
You rolled your eyes. "Okay, fine."
"Really?" she asked, her face lighting up in excitement.
"No," you grinned mischievously, moving past her and out of the library.
She groaned, clearly defeated. "Youâre impossible."
A part of you wanted to help her, but you didnât want to be stuck with the Marauders and her other friends for two weeks. It would be too long, and youâd be the outcast. The thought alone made you shudder.
But you were glad Lily was kind enough to accept your answerâat least, you thought she did.
--
You were sitting on a bench near the Black Lake with Pandora when the first nuisance of the day arrived.
"Hey, Y/N!" You turned to see Sirius Black striding toward you with that all-too-familiar charm and golden smile.
Pandoraâs eyes nearly popped out of her head. "Is Sirius Black seriously coming over to you?"She asked, her words half-mushed with the cookie she was eating.
"That was a really odd phrasing for a question," You said, raising an eyebrow.
By the time you turned back to face him, Sirius was right in front of you, out of breath from his slight run.
"Wow, with that much stamina, Quidditch must be a useless sport," You joked as Pandora giggled.
"Nice one, madame," Sirius said, slipping onto the bench beside you without invitation, and you groaned in annoyance.
"What do you want?" You asked, trying to gently push him away.
"Well, a little birdie told me you said no to coming to Jamesâs winter cabin," He said, grinning.
"If Lily thinks sending you is going to make me change my mind, sheâs got another thing coming. I mean, I mightâve gone with Remus," You added sarcastically, watching as Sirius pretended to be wounded.
"That actually kind of hurts," He pouted, and you almost considered hexing him for real.
"Well, tell her you failed. Iâm leaving this conversation," You said, standing up and moving toward the Great Hall, Pandora following quickly behind.
"But it will be fun!" He yelled.
"God, heâs truly insufferable," You muttered.
Pandora chewed thoughtfully. "His efforts are cute," She said as you glared at her, before adding, "But pointless and insufferable. I agree."
You laughed. "Thatâs certainly enough Marauder for one day."
And you thought that was the end of it.
--
You were packing up your things in Potions when another Marauder approached you, much to your dismay.
Before Remus could speak, you cut him off. "So, Sirius actually took me seriously when I said sending you could work?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Thatâs seriously Sirius for you," Remus said, trying to joke. You raised an eyebrow, glancing at Barty and Evan, who were stifling laughs.
Clearing his throat, Remus tried again. "You know, we donât bite."
"What if I do?" You retorted, as Barty and Evan snickered.
"Then perhaps you could be something new for us. Weâd love to have you," He said with a serious tone, though you werenât convinced.
"I'm sure you would, Remus, but I canât say the same for Golden Boy himself," You muttered, grabbing the last of your books and shoving them into your bag.
"James holds no malicious intent toward you," Remus said earnestly. "He promised Lily he wouldnât."
"Thatâs great, but I hold malicious intent toward him," You snapped, walking away from Remus as you left Barty and Evan to their conversation.
And, as if that wasnât enough, they sent in the Lion.
You were lying on the common room couch with Regulus when you heard the door creak open, and there he wasâJames Potter.
Regulus blinked at him in surprise. You groaned. "How did you even get in here?" You asked, already annoyed.
"It was actually quite easy. You Slytherins are predictable," he said, clearly trying to insult you, though you didnât care enough to react.
"Well, Iâm glad, but if you think you can convince me to go, youâre bloody mistaken," You retorted.
He stood in front of you, towering over you as you sat up and fixed him with a dangerous glare. "Come on, Y/N. You know me!" He tried the nice-guy approach.
"I know you?" You asked angrily, "I certainly donât know you and donât want to," You shot back, stubbornly.
He huffed. "Then why donât you do it for Lily?" He asked, arms crossed.
You stood to face him, matching his height with a glare of your own. "Because none of you actually want me there, and I refuse to go somewhere Iâm not wanted or where I don't want to go," You stated firmly.
"Well, maybe we can get to know you. Maybe you donât have a stick up your arse after all," He replied, sounding more teasing than serious.
"The only stick in my arse is you trying to wedge yourself into me and Lilyâs relationship for the billionth time," You shot back, your patience wearing thin.
"I think if you actually cared about fixing your relationship with her, youâd come and enjoy this with her," He said, his words hitting a little too close to home. "But hey, itâs up to you. Just know, sheâd do the same for you," He added, walking out of the room.
You stood there, staring at the door, trying to process his words. You didnât want to be selfish, but you didnât want to spend two weeks with people who didnât care for you, either.
Regulus broke the silence. "So, I guess youâre going to the cabin tomorrow," He muttered, glancing up from his magazine.
You groaned, flopping back onto the couch.
"I guess I am."

Golden Snitch | R.L.
summary: you convince remus to dress up together and everyone LOVES the costumes
pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
includes: underage drinking, cursing, kissing, Sirius and reader behaving like siblings, overall fluff
a/n: poll is releasing tmr to vote for this or the draco one!
Although Remus wasnât big on dressing up for Halloween, you absolutely adored it. Since your childhood, you always looked forward to the holiday and the tacky outfits from the spirit store down the street. Since Remusâ childhood, the holiday only reminded him that everyone found werewolves terrifying as death itself.
But you made sure to change all his horrid memories to good ones the second you met.
Over the years, you slowly coaxed Remus into dressing up and having fun on Halloween, especially when his best friends threw the Gryffindor party every year. When you began dating, the costumes you made him wear became couple costumes. Some of your favorites being Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, and The Great Gatsby.
This year â your final year at Hogwarts â you wanted to wear something that would be talked about for years. You wanted something so spectacular that it would be remembered. Luckily, you had just the couples costume in mind.
âRemind me again, why do you need a quidditch uniform?â James threw a curious look to Remus who was currently reading Little Women, a book you made him read for entertainment purposes. âIf youâre telling me youâre joining the quidditch team during your last year, Iâll go bloody mad.â
âIâm not.â Remus flicked the page and sipped on his tea beside him, glancing at James from the corner of his eye. âJust need to borrow one.â
Remus, James, and Sirius have gone through this dance about ten times. Each one ending in the talk of the latest play before James sobered up and asked about the uniform again. It was a never ending cycle of bickering.
Sirius threw a crumpled piece of plastic at Remusâ head as the painting opened up, earning a loud sigh from the boy himself. âYeah, but why do you need to borrow one?â
âDonât throw stuff at Remus, Black.â You huff and make your way over to the trio, flashing your loving boyfriend a smile as his hand made their way to your hip. âWhat did they do this time?â
âWhy are you assuming we did something?â
âYeah, weâre saints!â Sirius dropped down on the couch beside Remus, sending you an oh-so innocent smile.
You roll your eyes at him and flash him your favorite finger, âSays the devil himself.â
âHeyâ!â
âThey were asking why I needed a quidditch uniform.â Remus cut Sirius off before you two could argue for the nth time.
It was like you two were always fighting over him â which he had to admit â was funny to see unfold each time. Remus laced his other hand with yours and returned your attention back to him, thumb rubbing your pulse point.
âHowâs your thing going?â He murmured when you sat beside him and rested your head on his shoulder, shifting his body to block Sirius from your sight.
You shrug, âLily and I have been working on it. Weâll be done even before the holiday.â
âYou two are so ominous, I donât like it.â James shuddered, which earned a glare from you and an eye roll from Remus. âWhat? Itâs obvious you two are planning something and not telling us.â
âOkay, well, Iâm done with this conversation.â You sighed and pressed a quick kiss to Remusâ lips, looking like the love sick fool that you were. âI love you, and Iâll see you in a bit.â
You made quick steps up the girlsâ dorm after Remus reciprocated the notion and left the three boys back to their dwelling.
âWhy does she hate us and love you?â Sirius grumbled and popped a jelly bean into his mouth, grimacing at the flavor and spitting it out.
âMaybe because sheâs dating him and not us?â James threw him an annoyed look.
Remus blocked out their bickering and went back to reading. He loved you and you loved him, and thatâs all he needed to know. Besides, it was the boys who practically begged him to ask you out since first year. They knew he was smitten with you the second you both met on the train.
Eventually, James did lend Remus an unused quidditch uniform while you and Lily finished your costume for Halloween. The only thing left to do was perfect the actual look and win the couples contest.
âHell, are you dressing up as one of our quidditch players for Halloween?â Sirius raised his brows in surprise as Remus shuffled out of the bathroom with said uniform on. âWhich Gryffindor did you dress up as?â
âNo one.â Remus replied in a bored manner and adjusted the leather gloves he had on. âIâm just a quidditch player.â
âUh-huh. So you definitely didnât dress as Prongs or I?â
âNo.â
Sirius gave him an unimpressed look and shrugged on his vest for his Indiana Jones costume. âWhatever you say⌠Anyway, Prongs and the rest of them are already down there and Iâm not waiting for you any longer if youâre going to gel your hair back.â
âYeah, Iâm going.â He grumbled and adjusted his uniform before following Sirius down the stairs and into the ongoing Halloween party.
The red lights flickered about as the music practically shook the entire room. Remus scanned the vicinity for you, struggling until Sirius almost dropped dead at the sight of you. It was the same reaction everyone had to seeing you dressed in⌠That.
âHoly fuck. Your girlfriend is wearing the shortest dress in existence.â Sirius gaped and earned a smack to the head from Remus.
Remus watched you dance and jump with Lily, eyes shining bright with joy when they met his. You beamed so bright and almost elbowed everyone in your way to make it to him. He caught you in his arms as you kissed him senseless, hands coming to rest on his cheeks.
âHey, dovey.â He finally spoke when you both parted for air, thumbing your jaw softly. âYou look absolutely stunning in gold.â
âOf course, I do, Rem! Iâm a Gryffindor!â You laugh and eyes his outfit like he was a three course meal. âItâs interesting seeing you dressed in quidditch robes for the first time.â
âYeah?â He continued to thumb your jaw in a doting manner. âWell if I did play, I plan on you being the snitch every game. I wouldnât play otherwise.â
You tilt your head and meet his eyes with so much love. Now that you and Remus were standing together, your costumes made so much sense. It wasnât just a quidditch player and a golden fairy, it was a seeker and the golden snitch. Sirius looked between the both of you before gasping and clapping his hands in realization, those around you looking over as well.
âArenât you two the cutest pair!â He gushed and pinched Remusâ cheek at the revelation.
Smacking Siriusâ hand away, you rested your chin on Remusâs shoulder to prevent him from doing such thing again. Remus laughed at you two and rubbed your back.
âYou know, Marlene is looking for you, Siri.â You practically shout over the loud music.
âIs she?â He perked up at the mention of the girl he had been talking to recently. âWell then⌠I will catch up with you two later.â
You waited a little longer before laughing loudly at your own doing. Was Marlene really looking for him? No, but Sirius was always there whenever you wanted to be alone with Remus. Before you could stop laughing, Remus swatted your ass playfully in response to the poor prank.
âHeyâ!â You pout jokingly, laughing again when Remus shook his head at you with an upturned smile.
As the night carried on, the crowd grew bigger, the music louder, and the drinks more alcoholic. It got to the point where you and Remus were too drunk to be the responsible ones in the group. Oddly enough, you both drank more than anyone else in the group.
However, you both won the couples costume contest and â for some reason no one could explain the next day â you decided to give a speech to the mass of Gryffindors in the common room about winning the contest. It wasnât your proudest moment, but it was your last year.
Clambering on top of the wooden tables, you stumbled over your own legs as Remus tried to stabilize you. Lily, who was the responsible one for the night, rubbed her forehead in exasperation. She didnât want to necessarily stop you. You were a whiny drunk, and it would be impossible to stop you from something you wanted to do.
âWait wait â hiccup â I would like to thank the committee,â You hold your red cup close to your chest, your cheeks almost as bright as the cup. âLily Evans â hiccup â the quidditch team, and my ever so loving boyfriend â hiccup â for making this all possible!â You throw your arms in the air, earning cheers from the crowd.
âWhat committee?â Sirius looked at Lily with a confused look, pointing between him and James. âUs?â
She shrugged and watched you jump down from the table, snickering when Remus nearly had a heart attack from your way of getting down. She made sure you both were okay before returning to Jamesâ side, pointing you both out to him.
âYouâre gonna be the â hiccup â death of me.â Remus tucked his head in between your neck and shoulder, nudging his nose on your exposed skin. âDonât do that.â
âMâsorry.â You giggle and stumble slightly at the weight being put on you. âYou baby.â
He kissed your cheek, âNo.â
âYeah.â
âNo.â He dragged you over to the dormitory stairs. âHi.â
You giggle and trace the scars on his face, âHey.â
âYouâre cute.â He melted into your hands and pecked your palm. âReally really cute.â
âYou wanna know a secret, Rem?â You murmur and hiccup when he tugged you impossibly closer. âI promise itâs really cool.â
âWhat is it?â He pressed kisses everywhere he could, putting more attention to your lips.
âI love you.â You whisper against his lips and fully kiss him, the taste of firewhisky strong. âSo much.â
He smiled into the kiss and parted briefly, thumbing your lip. âYou want to know my secret, dovey?â
âWhat?â You look up and meet the hazel eyes youâve come to love.
âI love you more.â

part 1 | part 2 | part 3
Music drowned out your senses, the beat thrumming through your body as intensely as the pounding of your heart. Hoarse from screaming, your throat tickled as you laughed with your friends, revelling in Gryffindor's success from the day's Quidditch match against Slytherin.
Lights flashed across the Gryffindor Common Room as the Fat Lady's portrait swung open, people whooping as James was carried inside, basking in the attention like a cat- like a lion in the sunlight. Everyone began chanting his name, you joining in with a laugh as he was hauled even higher on Sirius' shoulders, people reaching over to smack him on the back as he swayed precariously. His tousled hair was stuck to his forehead with sweat, cheeks flaming red from the thrill, glasses cracked in one lens and his eyes... they burnt with the aftermath of success, glowing with that glimmer only a decisive victory could bring. His eyes scanned the room as he craned his neck, looking, searching; until his gaze landed on yours.
Something seemed to crackle in the air between you, the intensity of his fiery eyes pulling your body forwards, as though you needed to be near him. The chatter of your friends slowly faded into the background as you paused, biting your lip uncertainly.
James, on the other hand, wasn't one to hesitate. Not when he had been younger - when if he had wanted something he took it without a second thought - and certainly not now. James had enjoyed the perks of a privileged upbringing, and there were certain aspects he wasn't ready to relinquish yet.
Tapping Sirius firmly on the shoulder, his best friend loosened his hold and James jumped down. His eyes never left yours. He strode forwards, pushing past people as they cheered and tried to clap him on the back, his expression glazed with determination. No-one was going to get in the way of what he wanted.
Everything seemed to slow as James reached you. The music died in your ears, the loud cheering gradually fading. Your mind was a whirlpool of emotions, unsure where this was going, but also ready. James' chest heaved with adrenaline as he neared, closing the already small distance between you. His eyes flashed dangerously as his tongue darted out to wet his pink lips. You looked up at him, doe eyes wide, yet simmering with longing that had been repressed for far too long.
James considered your uncertain expression as his hand dragged up and down your shoulder in what was supposed to be a reassuring manner. As your best friend, James had always been touchy, but this was different.
It drove you crazy.
"A few kisses won't ruin our friendship, love."
Looking up at him through your lashes, you smiled slyly; his need for you in that moment so palpable that your skin flushed beneath his gaze.
The look he was giving you. Of exasperation, of longing, of want. You knew your face mirrored his.
James grunted with the force of his lips colliding with yours. His hands flew to your waist as you met in a flurry of passion and lust and want as one of his hands snaked up your side and tugged at your hair, eliciting a gasp- he stole it away with another kiss, then another, and another. The music flooding your ears once more combined with the vibrant lights hot on your skin and James' lips on yours surged the intensity of the moment to new heights. Heights that you teetered precariously on, feeling free and unreachable but capable of crashing at any moment.
He broke away for a split second as you both gasped for air, eyes frantically searching the others, as though you needed confirmation that this was happening, before pulling you back into him as though your lips on his could offer more relief than oxygen ever could. You were his lifeline and right now, James felt more alive than he could ever recall.
The night blended together in a haze of drinks, lights, laughter and more stolen kisses, the memory simultaneously so clear yet vague that you could only be left to ponder (and regret) everything that had occurred the following morning, as you trailed down to the common room from the girl's dormitories, massaging your forehead in a futile attempt to relieve your hangover. You hadn't expected to find James, who apparently hadn't even managed to make it to bed, asleep on the crimson sofa.
The creaking of the stairs as you crept forwards caused him to stir in his sleep, sitting up groggily once he noticed you.
He blinked a few times, forcing the sleep away, and stood up suddenly.
Groaning, he sat back down.
"Hungover hit yet?" You smirked, sitting down next to him.
James' black hair was the messiest you'd seen in a while and his glasses still flaunted a thin crack.
Leaning over him you raised your wand, muttering 'Oculus Reparo' as the crack sealed itself.
His eyes stayed shamelessly on your lips the entire time. You hesitated, not instantly moving away.
It was the signal James had been waiting for. Before you could speak his hands snaked around your waist.
His fingers lifted your chin, his eyes half-lidded as he murmured, "One more wonât hurt." His lips brushed against your lips as he murmured against you, âRight?â
You nodded, breathless as he swept hair away from your face.            Â
So, he had remembered last night.
He leaned in, grazing his lips against yours again as though he was testing his own self-restraint, playing a dangerous game as he tested both of your boundaries. They didn't hold.
Within moments, James had lifted you onto his lap, kissing you with as much urgency as he had only a few hours ago. You returned the action, your hands tangling into his hair, determined to make the most of this kiss if it would be your last. James' hands brushed up and down your sides, sending sparks surging through your body.
You pulled away, eyes still closed as his forehead pressed against yours, "What is this, James, what was last night?" You breathed, scared to shatter the moment you hadnât realised youâd wanted so desperately.
He groaned at the absence of your lips as his hands circled your lower back, "Friends kiss, love."
His eyes glinted with that familiar confidence beneath his glasses and you were unable to look away, that brief glimmer only enticing you more. His voice was rough as he spoke slowly, "Would you like me to stop, my best friend? My bestest girl?"
Your hands tightened in his hair at the pet name. His words should have thrown you off. They should have. But you had unknowingly craved this for so long, and this... maybe it worked. You could satisfy the part of you that craved him without the threat of losing your friendship.
"Don't stop."
The words triggered something in him, and James leant in.
ââââ ŕ¨ŕ§ ââââ
The kisses didn't stop.
Whenever you sat down with him at breakfast James greeted you with a kiss on the cheek, his hand lingering on your thigh throughout the meal.
He'd steal kisses from you after class, people conveniently crowded outside as heâd pull away, a smirk gracing those intoxicating lips.
Every time he kissed you sent shivers through your body- the feeling addictive. But soon, you began waiting for something. Waiting for the moment he'd pull away, his eyes searching yours, and ask for something more.
It hadn't taken long for the others to notice, but any ideas of the two of you together were quickly quenched by James' assertions that the two of you were the closest of friends- and nothing more.
He'd kiss you after quidditch practice when Gideon Prewett was getting on his nerves. Because he needed it, he always claimed. Because a kiss from his best friend was what he needed after he'd worked so hard and had to deal with irritating team mates. You were more than happy to oblige.
He'd kiss you when you'd hang out with the group, pulling you onto his lap when you all sat together by the black lake, laughing at the groupâs jokes. This carried on for so long that it became integrated into your normal routine, the others long beyond questioning anymore.
But after the initial two weeks, it didn't feel right. It felt stagnant, and you began wondering if youâd be forever trapped between friendship and something more. By the third week, you felt empty.
You recounted this to Mary MacDonald, one of your closest friends. She listened patiently as you spilled every detail on the floor of the girl's dormitory, your legs crossed as the words tumbled out of your mouth.
She placed a hand on your wrist, causing your rambling to skid to a halt.
"How do you actually feel about all this, (Y/n)?" She questioned, waving her freshly painted pink nails through the air, trying to dry them before she did yours.
"I-" you frowned, absentmindedly brushing your fingertips over your lips. The ghost of James' lips temporarily invaded your thoughts, "I love it when he kisses me."
Mary's eyes glimmered with something you couldn't recognise, but she kept quiet, prompting you to continue.
"But it's not enough. It's not enough," the words began to pour out, and you couldn't stop them, "I almost feel greedy- I want more. When he kissed me for the first time something changed and I- I donât know. I guess I thought things would be different. That they wouldâve developed by now.â
Mary sat patiently, admiring her freshly painted nails as she gave you space to sort through your thoughts.
âI love his kisses, but all they do is remind me that they're not enough." You paused, Mary's brows furrowed as she watched you, "I want more." You whispered, your voice quiet, barely audible. The words merged with the comfortable silence between the two of you as she mulled over your confession.
Mary wasn't one to offer a meaningless response, and that was something you adored her for- she genuinely cared. Still pondering, she gently placed your left hand on her knee as she began to paint your nails in the pretty wine-red colour you'd selected earlier.
It was once she reached your ring finger that she finally spoke, "You deserve more, (Y/n), and I'll be damned if that makes you greedy."
She paused again, eyes crinkling as she focused on wiping some stray polish from your finger.
"Itâs human to crave a proper relationship- not whatever James is doing. I don't think he's quite realised it, but he's taking advantage of you, (Y/n). He's giving you the bare minimum."
Her blunt words snapped your eyes up from your nails, your left hand done as you replaced it with your right.
"I don't want to stop being friends with him." You said, hesitantly.
"And you won't," Mary's eyes lit up, "All I'm saying is if that jerk wants to kiss you, he has to work for it." She insulted James with that level of affection shared by old friends, but there was an edge to her voice.
You laughed, but her words resonated within you, particularly with your level of self-respect. Entirely consumed by this change in dynamic with James, youâd unintentionally disregarded your dignity in the process. Allowed him to assume you'd always be there, lips puckered and eyes closed.
You shivered at the thought. The revelation sent a wave of bitterness through your body. You weren't angry at James, no, more so at yourself for putting up with this for so long.
Mary smirked, recognising the resolution in your eyes as she finally set down the nail varnish, screwing the lid on, "Itâs about time James Potter had to actually work for something."
You held back a snort, eyes crinkled with amusement.
"Thank you, Mare." You gestured to your nails, but she caught the double meaning.
"Anything for my best friend." She stood quickly, cursing as she almost smudged one of her nails, "Dinner?"
Within minutes youâd entered the hall, arms linked with Maryâs as you marvelled at the newly put up Christmas decorations. Just over a month away from Christmas, they glowed brightly; snowflakes swirled down from the enchanted ceiling, fading into nothing before they could touch the people sat beneath. Wreaths hung above every fireplace, which crackled comfortingly... and the tree. At the opposite end of the hall stood the massive fir tree, one you could've sworn got bigger each year. Baubles shimmered against the glow of the candles, the tinsel and angel hair that had been carefully draped over the branches made it look as though the tree had been dunked in pure starlight. Magic never ceased to amaze you; there really was a charm for everything.
As you scoured the Gryffindor table in search of your friends, Lily happened to look up at the same time and waved you over. Your breath hitched, noticing there was a seat either next to her or next to James. Mary gave you a pointed look as she slid down into the seat next to the latter, leaving you to join Lily- opposite him instead. James immediately looked up as Mary sat down, his brow crinkling slightly as he turned to you. It was no secret heâd saved that seat for you, and an uncomfortable moment passed before the others resumed their conversation.
Having just returned from practice, James was dressed in mud-splattered quidditch gear, the word gryffindor stretched across his broad chest. His hair was that familiar mess, and you mused whether you could run your fingers through it without them getting stuck. He downed his full glass of pumpkin juice in one, his eyes never leaving yours.
Your fingers drummed steadily on your thigh as you slipped in and out of Siriusâ story, laughing occasionally, but unable to dedicate your focus when James was sat directly opposite.
Only your eyes were on Sirius as he wildly gestured with his hands, recounting the tale; your mind wasnât on his words. Jamesâ leg brushed yours under the table, a bid for your attention. You didnât react, dragging your attention back to Sirius instead and joining in to laugh at something else heâd said. What exact you were laughing about, you werenât sure.
It felt wrong, almost unnatural, not to be touching James in some way. In just three weeks your body had gotten so accustomed to his lingering touches, his sly brushes against your thighs, that you felt unsettled by the lack of them. You noticed James flexing his large hands, as though he too didnât know what to do with them if they werenât on you.
You exhaled with relief when the food came, snapping you out of your thoughts yet again- a welcome distraction. As you began to fill your plate with steaming piles of food, your eyes fell on Maryâs. She had been engaging with the rest of the groupâs antics, but the knowing look in her eyes told you sheâd been observing the both of you the whole time.
She gave you a smirk, flexing her right hand dramatically, just as James had done. You snorted, your hand instantly flying up to your mouth to stifle your laughter. The tension momentarily evaporated as you realised that nothing escaped your best friendâs notice. The others paused, looking confused, but Mary quickly waved them off after muttering something about an inside joke. You only giggled in response.
After a collection of mouth-watering meals you stood, exhausted and ready to sleep. Mary and Lily also got up, both ready to leave. You didn't kiss James on the cheek as you usually did, instead linking arms with your friends as you left the sparkling hall.
You weren't ignoring James. No- from now on youâd simply treat him as a friend, because in the past few weeks the meaning of the word had gotten so twisted between the two of you. You were determined to restore it, unwilling to settle for kisses that amounted to nothing.
You had had an hour to mull over Mary's words. James' behaviour was intentional- it wasn't as though he hadn't had every opportunity to turn your situation into something more. It was James who had constantly enforced the 'friend' idea the hmost, leading you to assume he wasn't interested in you the way you were him. And that was fine- but you'd show him what a true friend was. Challenge his claim that friendship involved his lips on yours.
James silently stared after you, Sirius snorting, "How've you fucked that one up, man?"
"There's nothing to fuck up." James rolled his shoulders nonchalantly, ignoring how they suddenly felt heavy.
"Sure." Sirius' eyes flashed knowingly, "And Pete didn't fuck up his charms test."
Peter had gotten a T (Troll) on his most recent charms test.
Remus rolled his eyes, shooting Peter an apologetic look as he stood from the table, "Well, I'll leave you all to it."
And so he did, leaving James entangled in thoughts almost as messy as his hair and filled with a desperation to know why youâd seemed so distant. He chalked it down to your having a bad day, certain that tomorrow you wouldn't be able to stay away from him again.
Oh, how wrong he was.

10 Things I Hate About You
Sirius Black x Evans!Reader
Lily Evans isn't allowed to date. Not until her big sister does. At least, James Potter thinks so. What better way to rectify this than to get Sirius to date her. That shouldn't be hard, right?
3.1K
Lily Evans was not allowed to date. At least that was what James believed. He believed the reason she wouldn't date him was because of her sister.
Her crazy twin sister who was a loner freak. She was pretty, sure. Just as pretty as Lily. But she was abrupt, aggressive and, quite frankly, scared most people off. She was unashamed in voicing her opinions, not giving a crap on what anybody thought.
Lily Evans wasn't allowed to date because Y/N Evans wasn't dating. It wasn't a jealousy thing, it was a protective older sister thing.
"You don't need to waste you time on the guys at this school, Lils. You should just be focusing on your studies and getting the best grades you can," she said as she sat, stretched out on the couch in the Gryffindor common room, book open in her lap.
Lily let out a huff and returned to her homework. She knew there was no point arguing with her sister. And, it wasn't even like she wanted to date anybody, it just would have been nice to have the option. Especially when James Potter ramped up the flirting.
James Potter. He stared at her across any room they were both in. Pranks had gone wrong because he was too busy staring at Lily.
He'd asked her out several times. But her answer was always the same. She always turned him down and blamed Y/N.
So, James had to come up with a solution. He liked Evans, so damn much, he just had to get her sister out of the way.
Moony would never go for it. He was already sort of friends with Y/N. Academic rivals who had found friendship. They compared homework, attempting to correct each other. Which worked out great for James, Sirius and Peter.
Peter. Y/N would never go for him. Especially not after she'd caught him peaking into the girls hanging room after quidditch practice.
That left James with one last friend: Sirius. And might have well as been perfect for the job.
Sirius accepted. If it finally got James with Evans, he'd do it. Plus, Y/N was a challenge. If he managed to date her, he'd hate dated the biggest bitch in Hogwarts.
Of course, Sirius had the impossible task of getting her to agree to go on a date with him first.
On Sirius' first attempt, he waited leaned against the wall beside the doorway into charms. It wasn't a class they shared, and Sirius only knew where she was because he'd asked Lily.
So, he'd skipped his own class and waited outside of hers.
The girls in Y/Ns year giggled and batted their eyelashes at Sirius as the walked past. He flashed that ever charming smile, but that was the only attention he was going to give them. They weren't the one he was looking for.
"Hey," Sirius said as Y/N walked past.
She spared him a single glance and kept walked, not answering him.
It was a good thing thing Sirius was a persistent person. He followed Y/N away from her classroom, towards Muggle studies. "You got muggle studies?" He asked.
Y/N snorted. "What do you think?" She mumbled. "Haven't you got any classes whatsoever?"
"I might," he replied, leaning against the wall.
Y/N finally turned to look at him. She wouldn't admit it, but she noticed it, noticed his rolled up sleeves, his loose tie, the way he wasn't wearing his robes.
Sirius Black was undeniably attractive, sure, but Y/N wasn't looking to date. And good facial features weren't the only thing that mattered to her. So far, Sirius was all aesthetically pleasing facial features.
"I might want to stay here and walk to you."
Y/N scoffed and walked into Muggle Studies, leaving Sirius where he was.
***
"I'm telling you, James, she doesn't want me. She wants nothing to do with me," Sirius said as they lounged around in the common room.
James shook his head. "Come one, Padfoot. Every girl wants you, so why doesn't she?"
Before this whole ordeal, Sirius had wanted Y/N, but it was in the same way he wanted every girl. It meant nothing and the feeling would pass as soon as something had happened between them. But the more she rejected him, the more he wanted her.
So, with the help of Remus, the boys devised a plan. They were going to throw a party in the common room. And if Y/N and Lily came, and Lily saw Y/N with Sirius, maybe James might have a chance.
They spent the afternoon preparing everything, getting records together and sneaking alcohol into the grounds. Using the tunnel that led to the shrieking shack, Sirius and Remus managed to get to Hogsmeade. From there it was easy enough to by something to drink and get it back to the castle.
By the time the Gryffindors got back from dinner, the boys had the party in full swing. All that was missing was people.
It didn't take much to convince people to join their party. First, second, third and fourth years were ushered up to bed, since the marauders didn't want to be responsible for a bunch of drunk Fourteen year olds.
It was Peters job to make sure they stayed upstairs while everybody else partied. Sirius' job was handing out the drinks and Remus' job was to keep things rolling while James flirted with Lily.
Y/N was one of the last to make it back from dinner. Her sister had gotten to the common room first, and was already sat on the couch beside Marlene McKinnon, drink in hand.
Once Y/N walked into the common room, she scoffed and went to make her way up to her bedroom.
But Sirius caught her, getting in her way and handing her a drink. "Stay for a while," he said over the music and the chatter. "Have some fun with your housemates."
"I'm busy," said Y/N as she stared at him.
Sirius insisted, pushing the drink into her hand. "One drink, that's all I ask," he said. "Just one drink."
Reluctantly, Y/N took it. But one drink turned onto two, and two drinks turned into three. Soon Y/N was dancing on the table to the Queen records Sirius had put on.
Other students gathered around, laughing and watching as she danced. But Sirius could see it, see her slipping and falling from the table. So, he strode over, pushing his way passed the other Gryffindors, who let him pass without protest, and grabbed a hold of Y/Ns hands.
"Let's get you some air," he called over the noise.
"But I'm having fun!" Y/N shouted back, throwing her head back as she swayed from side to side. "Isn't this what you wanted?"
Sirius practically pulled her from the table. He wrapped his arms around her, leading her out of the common room.
Sneaking through the halls of the castle was hard enough on a full moon. But, with a drunk Y/N Evans clutching onto his arm, it was damn near impossible.
Sirius hid her in an alcove with him, holding his fingers to her lips as Slughorn came past. Y/N let out a giggle and licked Sirius's finger, but he quickly placed his hand over her mouth.
Once Slughorn was gone, it was easy enough to get Y/N outside. Sirius walked her down to the Black Lake, sitting her down against a tree. "How are you feeling?" He asked, sitting down beside her.
Y/N let her head fall against his shoulder. "My head feels fuzzy," she complained, shutting her eyes.
"That's because you've had too much to drink." Sirius pulled a carton of cigarettes from his pocket and pulled one out. He put one between his lips and lit it.
As soon as Sirius took the first puff, Y/N reached for the cancer stick. He gently batted her hand away, wrapped his arms around his shoulders. "You'll throw up if you smoke this," he said and Y/N just nodded his head.
***
She didn't want to talk about it.
Some Gryffindors laughed as they passed her in the hall, but Y/N's harsh glare was enough to shut them up.
She hid herself away in the library, in the darkest corner as she read through books. For one she wasn't studying, reading for the pleasure of it.
When somebody walked towards her, Y/N turned away.
When Sirius Black walked towards her, Y/N scoffed and shoved her nose deeper into her book. If there was one person she didn't want to talk to, it was the person that got her drunk.
He sat opposite her, drumming his black nails against the desk. "How you feeling today?" He asked, using his finger to lower Y/N's book.
She glared and lifted it back up. "Go away, Sirius."
"I'll go away," Sirius replied, "If you go to Hogsmeade with me."
Again, Y/N scoffed. But this time she stood up and walked away from him. She checked her book out of the library and strode out, all while Sirius watched her go.
Goddamn he wanted her.
He needed Remus's help.
Sirius met his friend in the Gryffindor common room. "We need to do something," he said as he paced in front of the fire place.
Remus was sat back, looking cool, calm and collected. Of course he was, he had virtually no part in this whole Lily and Y/N plan. "Do you think it's really fair that you're chasing her just so that James can date her sister?"
Stopping his pacing, Sirius stared at his friend. He wanted Y/N Evans and he wanted her bad.
Remus let out a sigh. "Have you ever noticed that she's always reading these romance novels?"
"So?"
"You'll need to do some sort of gesture, something big and romantic," Remus replied, running his hands through his hair.
Some big, romantic gesture, huh? Sirius could do that.
***
Y/N had never received a howler before. Never, not in her entire life. With her parents being Muggles, they didn't know how to send them. So, when the owl dropped the red envelope into Y/N's lap, her sister stared at her. "Who on earth sent you that?" Asked Lily as Y/N picked it up.
She shrugged her shoulders and unsealed it. Immediately, the red envelope and letter inside became a mouth. A mouth that started singing. "Oh my god," Y/N mumbled, hiding her face from everybody else in the great hall, eating their breakfasts. She'd never been this embarrassed in her life, not even when she'd gotten incredibly drunk last week.
The Howler sang Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy by Queen as Sirius came and sat opposite her, smirking with his ring covered hands clasped together. "This is from you, isn't it?" Y/N asked over the singing.
Instead of answering, Sirius climbed up onto the table. He sang along with the howler, kicking dishes of food away from the table. And, when the song was over, he held out his hands towards her. "Y/N Evans, will you go out with me?"
The embarrassment had turned into laughter. As embarrassing as it was, Y/N loved it. It was amazing. It was the most Sirius Black thing in the world.
But Y/N didn't get to answer him, not when Professor McGonagall came striding towards him and pulled him from the table. He waved at Y/N as he was dragged away to detention.
"What on earth," Lily muttered, shaking her head as Y/N stood up from the table.
"I don't know, Lils," Y/N said and ran office.
She knew exactly where to find Sirius. McGonagall had him in her office, writing line while she watched over him.
Y/N knocked on the door and waited for McGonagall to let her in. When she shouted, Y/N strode into the office. "Hey, Professor. As a Muggleborn student, I have some questions," she said and walked over to the window, pulling McGonagall's attention away from Sirius.
It took Sirius a moment to catch on. So, Y/N kept talking, kept holding McGonagall questions. "So, do how do Muggleborn students come to be?" She asked.
Sirius's eyes went wide. He stood carefully pushing his chair back while McGonagall was turned around.
But she went to turn back. "Like, do I have a magical family member from a few generations ago?" She asked as Sirius tiptoed towards the door. "And, how come Lily and I are both magic but our sister isn't?"
"I'm sorry, Miss Evans," McGonagall said, keeping her eyes on her as Sirius made it out of the door. Y/N got herself ready to run. "But I don't have time for this right now. Can't you see I'm busy?"
"You're right, Professor. I'm sorry," Y/N said and swiftly walked out of the office.
She got away quickly, before McGonagall could call her back and ask about Sirius's whereabouts. Y/N wasn't sure, anyway. Sirius was long gone by the time she got out of the office.
Suddenly, Sirius appeared out of nowhere. He strode forward and tapped Y/N on the shoulder. She turned quickly, ready to tackle her attacker, but when she saw Sirius, she relaxed. She went to say something, but he beat her to it. "Meet me on the astronomy tower later," he said and walked off again.
***
James walked towards Lily and placed his arms around her shoulders. "Word on the street is your sister is seeing Sirius," he said as they walked.
Lily didn't remove his arm, but she didn't give him the time of day, either. She just kept walking, as though James wasn't there. "So, now that your sister is dating, how about I take you on a date?"
"A date, James, really?" Lily asked, finally pushing his hand away.
James nodded his head. "If Y/N is dating, why can't you?"
Letting out a huff, Lily turned to face him. "Okay, if I go on one date with you, will you finally leave me alone?" She asked and James nodded.
One date. All he needed was one date.
***
Y/N made her way up to the astronomy tower. She was dressed in a simple pair of jeans and a knitted sweater, keeping herself warm as she walked through the castle.
Sirius was already up the astronomy tower, a picnic set up in front of him. He had the blanket, the basket, a candle surrounded by food. It was simple food, sandwiches and snacks.
"Wow," Y/N whispered as she walked over to him.
Sirius grinned and spread his arms. "Surprise," he said and sat on one side of the blanket, gesturing for Y/N to sit opposite him.
She took her seat and Sirius passed her a biscuit. "So, what is the deal with James and my sister?" She asked as she leaned back, looking across the castle grounds.
Sirius shook his head. "He really likes her," he said and ran his fingers through his hair.
Y/N let out a snort. "I think the whole school knows that."
"No, I think the whole school knows that I like you," Sirius muttered with a smirk.
They spoke the whole evening long. Even once the food had been eaten and they were comfortably full, Y/N and Sirius stayed where they were, talking about their lives. Y/N learned about his home life and just how shitty it was. She told him about being Muggleborn and how spiteful her sister was.
They were sat beside each other, Y/N leaning against him as he watched the stars. "So, why don't you date?" Sirius asked her. "You're gorgeous, I know so many guys that would be so happy to be in my position right now, so why am I the lucky guy?"
Y/N shrugged her shoulders. "I've just always wanted to be more focused on my studies," she said.
Suddenly Sirius placed his finger under chin and tipped her towards him. He kissed her, slowly gently, eyes closed as his lips moved against hers. He tasted of smoke and mint, the taste intoxicating. Y/N couldn't get enough.
She ran his fingers through his hair, scratching at his scalp. Sirius let out a whine and pulled away, resting his forehead against hers. He couldn't stop the smile crossing his face as they just sat there.
There were footsteps, making their way up towards them. Y/N and Sirius pulled away to look at who was approaching.
"Lily," Y/N said as she stood, moving away from Sirius. "What're you doing up here?"
And then James appeared behind her. He grinned when he saw the two of them, both of them breathless. "Thanks, mate," he said as he and Lily came up the stairs.
Y/N stared at Sirius. "What does he mean?" She asked, picking up her things. "Sirius, what does he mean by that?"
"Y/N, listen, you've got to understand-"
But that was enough for her. Y/N turned on her heel and walked away from him, running down the steps and back to the common room.
Sirius spent the next few weeks trying to speak to her. He waited outside of her classrooms and tried to corner her in the common room, but Y/N marched away from him, a furious look on her face.
She was furious. Furious that Sirius had just asked her out for James' benefit, furious that she had fallen for him.
She was hurt, incredibly hurt.
She hated the way she felt around, the way he made her heart flutter. She hated the way his gaze heated her cheeks, hated the way her hand felt in his. She hated the way he smelt like cigarettes, hated the way he tasted of smoke and mint, and hated the way she loved it. She hated that he'd taken her on her first ever date and hated the way she loved it. But, most of all, she hated the way she didn't hate him.
Y/N sat in the common room, reading her book. She was constantly looking around, making sure Sirius didn't appear in front of her.
Suddenly, a couple of books appeared on the table in front of her. They were held together by a piece of twine, held together in a neat bow. Beneath the bow was a small note, her name written on it. Y/N grabbed a hold of it and turned it around.
'Forgive me? - S'
Y/N looked across the common room, meeting his gave. She gave him a quick nod and went back to her book, a grin splitting across her face.

PART 0.5 (PREQUEL)
âWhat. The. FuckâŚâ Sirius exclaims only to receive a hit upside the head by Remus who also pins him with a warning glare, âWhat?!â the eldest Black brother shouts and gestures to the unbelievable display happening before them, âShouldnât you be the one demanding answers? Usually she goes to you for this!â
Instead of answering him, Remus fixes an unreadable stare onto the scene happening before him; trying his hardest to suppress the smile tugging at his lips. Finally his suspicions were confirmed and he was happy to witness its conclusion. It was about time.Â
Yes, he was the person you typically sought comfort from when distressed and he was more than happy to be that person for you, however, heâs seen your longing glances and has witnessed many of the one-sided conversations youâve had with the silent, grumpy slytherin â who was the complete opposite of you in demeanour and attitude. Itâs an interesting sight seeing you constantly approach him with your bright smile, sweet face and sparkling eyes, a contrast to his notorious emotionless and cold disposition.
Some people whoâve also witnessed your interactions with Regulus Black couldnât understand why you were so persistent when he barely said a word back and scarcely showed any interest in return to your friendly advances. They thought you were crazy but you were so bubbly and sweet with everyone, they assumed that itâs just a part of your nature to approach even those who were deemed unapproachable.Â
And Regulus Black is unapproachable. To everyone â except you.
Regulus never understood you.Â
Usually, whenever someone brave enough to approach him started conversation, they would get so turned off by his aloofness that they would cut the interaction short and move on. Those that continued to persist, received a glare and offensive remark, which finally shook them off and out of his personal space.Â
But you.Â
You love his personal space. He couldnât so-easily push you away like the others. Your tenacity rivalled the stubbornness of a bull â it was quite admirable. You werenât deterred by his aloofness nor his ice-cold glare and snide remark. Secretly he was grateful. Heâs grown to love your company (though heâd never say it out loud) ever since you shot down his attempt at forcing distance between the two of you.Â
âWhy would you say that? Thatâs so mean,â your pout was adorable, âand stop trying to look scary,â you poke your finger between his brows and ease the creases in his skin from his glare, âit doesnât work when you have such a pretty face,â
PrettyâŚ
You love calling him that, although heâd argue that the flattering term suited you much more than him. Growing up, he was told to despise Gryffindors; his brother was the only exception until you came along with your pretty smile, pretty eyes, pretty nose, pretty hair, pretty voice, pretty lips â pretty everything!Â
âŚheâd never admit it out loud, however.Â
Heâd never admit a lot of things out loud when it came to you. Maybe thatâs why he hardly said anything when you were around him. At least he doesnât scowl as much anymore, he just holds a blank stare whilst trying to stop a smile from taking over his face.
He likes listening to you a lot more than he does anyone else and appreciates your company very much, even if itâs just to listen to you talk about your day and all the things youâve done; how you loved the omelette they served for breakfast, how you really wanted to learn how to ride a broom but were terrified of heights, how your favourite subject was astrology and eagerly waited for each lesson, how you love his company and being close to him.Â
He loves it too, being close to you. Youâre warm and soft and he loves your fragrance. Surprisingly, itâs not as sickly sweet as heâd once imagined (and dreaded). Rather, you smelled perfectly floral with a hint of piquant spice that was unique to you. It wasnât intoxicating, instead, it was calming and Regulus was addicted to the peace you were able to bring into his chaotic life, a life that remained jumbled with no help from his Gryffindor brother, his only brother, someone he still deeply but silently adored. Â
Regulus appreciated you for being able to give him regular updates on his estranged brother since you were pretty good friends with the Marauders. You were especially close to Remus, which you admitted was due to his level-headedness and calmness. You explained to him that being around such stolid characters were comforting to you because their presence was reassuring. Regulus didnât understand your reasoning. Although it could be because a creeping jealousy had coloured his eyes green for the tall brunette he had never had the pleasure of officially meeting. Nevertheless, it answered his question on why you so often gravitated towards Remus, especially when distressed.Â
So⌠why were you desperately clinging to him when Remus was just across the courtyard?
James was in a frenzy. He had been worried ever since this morning. Ever since meeting you, he had grown to see you as his younger sister and with that, came a an urge to protect you from all things physical and intangible. Therefore, it was only natural for his senses to flood with worry as soon as you mentioned âboggartâ over your a plate of your favourite omelette at breakfast. You were going to have your boggart lesson for DADA today.Â
Consumed by worry, James had rushed to the courtyard as soon as morning classes were over and desperately searched the crowd for you. Remus tried to assure him, confident in your courage as a fellow Gryffindor but that wasnât enough to quell his anxiety for your condition.Â
His apprehension was for good reason, it seemed, because for the first time ever! There were tears in your eyes. You were crying. You were sad. Sad enough to sob in someoneâs arms. In Regulus Blackâs arms!
âWhAt ARe yOU DoING?!â James shouts, his voice cracking and fluctuating from his panicked state as his hands grip and pull at his untamed locks.Â
For the first time ever, Regulus stutters, âI-IââŚuhh!âÂ
Jamesâ eyes widen at Regulusâ shaking hands, hanging suspended in the air, his fingers twitching slightly from his hesitation and inexperience with comforting someone, âYOU IDIOT!â only James Potter would have the nerve to call Regulus Black an âidiotâ.
In his eyes, James was watching his precious baby sister, who he loves to pieces, sob into the arms of someone she wanted comfort from but had no clue how to comfort her, âHOLD HER!â James demands, âHURRY!âÂ
FinallyâŚFINALLY Regulus hugs you back, one hand on the back of your head to softly pet your hair down as his other circles around your waist and pulls you close. He feels you sob into his shoulder as your shaking hands cling onto the back of his button up shirt. When he focuses on your trembling sobs and usually sorrowful form, an ache takes hold of his heart and he finds himself clinging onto you.Â
You donât deserve to cry. Youâre far too precious and sweet to deserve experiencing such distress. Whoever did this to you, once he finds the culprit, will have hell to payâŚ
As soon as you feel the secure squeeze of Regulusâ arms around you, your shaking sobs slowly reduce to pitiful hiccups and faint sniffles. Beside your ear, Regulus whispers soft, kind assurances and youâve never felt so safe. It escapes you that Regulus was actually speak to you instead of the other way around.Â
âItâs okay, my flowerâŚâ your heart leaps in your chest, âyouâre going to be okay; Iâm here for you,âÂ
A/N : i had this idea and parts of it written ages ago and rediscovered it while i was on holiday â finally! i got to finish it haha! i hope you lovelies enjoy, this turned out better than i originally imagined it to goÂ

crystals | r.b.
regulus black x whimsical!reader
âBaby,â Regulusâ voice comes out two parts affection and one part exasperation as he feels your knees pressing down into the bed on either side of him. You hum distractedly in response, mind wandering to places he knows he can never follow.
He cracks his eyes open, a small smile involuntarily making its way onto his face at the sight of you. Youâre as pretty as you always are, so pretty he wonders if youâre actually a dryad of some sort. You certainly look the part, with daisies braided into your hair and miniature toadstool earrings.
He watches as you outstretch your fingers to fiddle with the chain on his neck, your eyebrows bunched in concentration. Your tongue juts out of your lip adorably as you bite down on it, and he resists the urge to kiss you senseless.
The chain Regulus was wearing was nothing more than a thick black string, but it was knotted around various small crystals, courtesy of your hobby of collecting them. When he had first asked you out with a ring, you had shyly given him this string with a single crystal hanging from it â a rose quartz. âFor my unconditional love,â you had mumbled, blushing so hard he thought you mirrored a rose. But the pink that coated your cheeks was a lovelier shade than any flower he had laid his eyes on.
From then on, you would knot new crystals onto the string whenever you found them. Regulus was pretty sure some of them had to have been rocks or pebbles, but he loved you too much not to indulge you.
âMon chĂŠri,â he tries again, amusement seeping into his tone. âItâs 5 in the morning.â
âSo?â you ask distractedly, your fingers still tugging and pulling his necklace from side to side. â5AM is when the crystals are most active, you know. This is when they pull the most power from the core of the earth,â you explain matter-of-factly, so dedicated to your task that you donât notice his smile widening.
You sway forward slightly, unable to balance on the balls of your knees. Regulus silently wraps his palms around your hips, tugging downward until youâre comfortably seated on his stomach.
That was when he noticed you had odd-shaped stones in one of your hands, sunlight reflecting off of them to give a pale blue glow. âWhat are those?â
You perk up at his question, abandoning your task of trying to tie the stones onto the string. Your head tilts upwards to give him a sunny smile. âTheyâre aquamarine crystals, obviously.â
âYeah?â he murmurs, his smile softening. It doesnât matter how many times you do this, itâs always just as endearing to him. The way you smile fondly at him â like heâs silly for not knowing.
âYeah,â you beam. âI found these in the stream nearby, the one next to the big daisy field with all the horsies.â
âYou walked into the water again, then?â
Itâs too laden with fondness to sound accusatory, but you turn slightly sheepish anyway, nodding. Your hands find their way back to his necklace, and this time you manage to loop the string around a crystal successfully. Your face lights up, obviously pleased with your work.
He huffs out a laugh, leaning forward to run his hands down your long skirt. As expected, he finds it damp and sticky. âYouâll have to take a bath, mon amour.â
âIn the stream?â
âNo,â he mutters, trying but failing to conceal his amused grin. He presses his elbows into the mattress, hoisting himself upwards to press an amorous kiss to your forehead. He canât help himself, the blush on your cheeks and the shy smile too much for his heart to handle. âIn the shower, baby.â
âOh,â you reply as a way of answer, and Regulus canât help but chuckle at the slight disappointment in your voice. âMaybe I can shower in the water tomorrow, then? With all the ducks. These ducks are nice; they eat the bread I throw at them. You can come too if youâd like.â
âMaybe,â he replies indulgently, with absolutely no intention of letting you bathe with the ducks instead of with him â but he was never one to deny you anything you asked for.

đ¸ BETTER THAN REVENGE
synopsis. after a fight with sirius, regulus comes to his girlfriend sulking and she decides to have a little talk with his older brother.
notes. regulus black x malfoy!reader
you and regulus had many more similarities than anyone could guess just by simply looking at the two of you. the most obvious included your background â ancient, pureblood families, who were nuts about purity, both in slytherin, both richer than most of the hogwarts students together, and in everyoneâs eyes you were petty, stubborn and pretentious.
you two were petty and seemed pretentious, but it wasnât all that. the two of you both had siblings, who maybe cared about you in some way, but never showed it well enough for you to be sure they cared. you were sure sirius cared, but you werenât sure if lucius did. your brother was far from being a family guy.
both you and regulus were also painfully ambitious, and it kind of made the two of you so close as you were paired to one group in slughornâs classes, and to secure yourself a top spot, you had to work together. and so half a year later, you were planning a trip to france, lying next to each other on the bed in his dorm.
after that one summer everything has changed, and now you two were an official couple, though not many people knew since neither of you wanted to make a big deal out of it. the amount of classes you shared had shrunken since you took different ones, but it just made your bond stronger.
it all happened on a week before both of you were supposed to return to your respective houses (though, regulus would be staying at potterâs), you were wrapping your present for barty, when your boyfriend stormed into the room. pandora, who sat there with you, claimed she would leave you two alone and left. you could easily see that something happened from the look on his face.
âreg,â you began, eyebrows furrowed at his sudden appearance. âis everything alright, love?â a soft ask left your lips as he just laid down on your bed, face buried in a pillow.
silence filled your room right after you finished your sentence. it was time for you to just sigh quietly, putting a hand on his back and scratching it gently. âyou know you can talk to me, right?â your soft tone and the sensation of your nails on his back made him grunt.
âiâm not leaving for christmas.â he stated, catching you a little off guard. you were sure it was about the upcoming christmas ball that slughorn threw and since you were invited, regulus was ought to go with you. âi⌠got into a fight with sirius, so either we make up or iâm gonna go to my parents.â now, he was looking at you with misery and sadness flickering in his eyes.
âhe thinks james is more of a brother to him than i am.â regulus adds, his head now resting on top of your laps as you play with his hair, trying to comfort him at least a little. âand he says itâs not that big of a deal, since i consider evan and barty my brothers and iâd probably say that theyâre more of brothers to me than he is, but thatâs not true.â
his words made your heart ache. it was clear to everyone in your friend group (including remus, who often just tagged along) to know how much regulus needed siriusâ validation, how much he needed to be reassured that he doesnât hate him as much as regulus thought he did.
âi know we havenât talked until he moved out, but it still hurts.â he whispered, not even looking you in the eyes. âand he doesnât even recognize how much he means to me. heâs the only one in our entire family that matters more than everything. i got his initials and constellations tattooed and he thinks i would choose barty and evan over him?â
âyouâre brother is an idiot, and i mean it.â you murmured, showering his head with kisses. if regulus was in his usual mood, he would say he just acts like an idiot, but now? he didnât even want to defend him. âiâll stay with you. iâd go nuts if i had to spend a minute with lucius.â you say softly, fingers running through his hair.
it took you a few more minutes to comfort him enough to leave your dorm for his evening practice, and even though you were supposed to finish packing your presents before christmas. you had to talk to one, annoying gryffindor, who was no other than sirius black.
getting into their common room was easy, lily, friend of a friend of yours, let you in after hearing your explanation, showing you how to get into siriusâ dorm that he shared with james, remus and peter. âone of you better hold me or i might kill your friend.â you let out, looking specifically remus, who looked at you with a glint of surprise.
âwhat did he do again?â lupin asked, his expression scolding. âwhatâre you doinâ here, malfoy?â peter began, but before he could elaborate, remus put a hand on his shoulder and shook his head as you looked for the perfect words.
âhow can you be such an asshole, black?â you hissed, the end of your wand pointed at his throat. âone time youâre all on being the best older brother you can, but next time all i see in yourself is my brother, and believe me, thatâs the furthest from a compliment.â
âiâm not done, yet.â your teeth gritted, eyes narrowed at him. âheâd never choose anyone over you, yet youâd always choose him ââ you looked at james for half a second, then turned your eyes to sirius, again. ââ over your own brother, whoâd jump into flames just if you asked him to? unbelievable.â you sighed, putting your wand down, sliding it into your boot. âand you know whatâs the worst in all that? that i wish heâd pick anyone else over you, but he wonât, because he canât even get mad at you for not choosing him, heâs just sad.â
the atmosphere in the room is so tense, someone could cut it with knife. âyouâre an idiot for making regulus feel so little about himself, and yâall are idiots for letting him.â another sight left your lips as your eyes were locked with sirius. âmaybe even regulus will let you treat him like shit, but i wonât, black. iâll make sure to haunt your dreams and turn them into nightmares, i can promise you that.â you gave him your most ironical smile. âiâm a malfoy, donât underestimate me, cutie pie.â you sent him a wink,
âprotective girlfriend, huh?â remus chuckled as you passed him, giving you a high-five. âoh you bet, lupin.â and you left, sirius almost shamless at your sudden outburst, but⌠it was quite impressive â though, heâd never admit it.
you havenât seen neither of them till the next morning at breakfast, when they walked to the great hall together, talking about something until each of them got to their respective tables. âwhat did you do?â regulus asked, sitting on the bench beside you.
âwhat?â you asked with a sweet smile, nudging him lightly with your elbow. âjust had a small talk with sirius, why?â
âa small talk? with the tip of your wand pressed against his throat?â you nodded at his words, sending him a fake-puzzled look. âyou know i love you?â he bit back a smile, leaning closer to whisper those words right to your ear.
âoi, malfoy.â barty started, interrupting your somehow intimate moment with regulus. âtheoretically, if i paid you, could you do that to me as well? that mustâve looked bloody hot.â crouch grinned, getting a light punch on the shoulder from your boyfriend.
âi would rather not touch you, crouch. i donât know where the hell have you been.â you laughed, your head resting on regulusâ shoulder as his arm was wrapped around your waist. âdonât worry, baby. if any of them bothers you, i can fight.â you winked at him playfully.

annual christmas parties⌠and punches! ⸠regulus black
summary. you bring regulus to your familes christmas party. hugs are given. songs are sung. punches are thrown. kisses are shared.
pairings. regulus black x potter!reader
Regulus Black knew of parties, of course, his family had thrown a lot of them but this was different. The boy sat in the living room watching you as you stood in the hallway talking with a family member, everyone was getting along, everyone seemed comfortable. Sirius was even comfortable enough to be snuggled on the couch with Remus as they talked to the Potters family.
Regulus Black had never felt so out of place.
You noticed when you looked over your aunts shoulder, his fingers gripped onto his drink. Him constantly looking around, Marlene had left him apparently. You excused yourself from you aunt and made your way back to him.
You smiled as you approached him, âHi, my love,â Your voice was quiet as you sat beside him. He smiled back, âHi,â his voice was quiet but sad, causing you to frown. You so badly wanted to reach out and grab his hand but now his brother and Remus were approaching so you brought your hand back to your lap.
âHey, little brother.â
Regulus head snapped up, he was still getting used to being close with his brother, âWeâre going outside to⌠yeah.â He stopped to say smoke but your family was behind him, Sirius was hinting for him to join so you nudged him before you stood up.
âBring spray, mom will kill you if you bring that smell in.â You said patting his shoulder as you walked away, Regulus stuttered as Sirius pulled him up. You looked over your shoulder to see that Regulus was giving you pleading eyes.
âSweetheart, your mom needs help with the food,â your father said as he passed you. You smiled walking to the kitchen. When you entered she was looking out of the small kitchen window, she was smiling causing you to look.
Regulus was laughing with the boys causing you to smile too, âYou love him, hm?â Euphemia said from beside you making you snap your head to her, she was looking at you with her knowing look.
âWh-whââ you choked on your words as she tilted her head, âYeah, I think I do.â You whispered as she cooed bringing you into a hug, you groaned as you fell onto her chest with a smile.
She pulled you away with a smile looking out the window before at her daughter again, âIâm glad because youâre happy but also because youâre showing him true love.â She spoke grabbing your face, you smiled.
âNow câmon, help me withâ oh my god, James!â She cut herself off with a yell causing you to jump, you followed her eyesight out of the window again but James stood in front of Regulus with his fist clenched as Regulus held his face, as everyone inside and outside started at them in shock, Regulus punched James.
That sent you out of shock as you ran outside, pushing James as he stepped towards your boyfriend again. âStop,â you yelled as Sirius walked past you to his brother. James glared at you pushing your hands off of his chest.
âMerlin, sunny. Him?â His voice was full of disgust as your parents walked out of the house, âJames!â Fleamont gritted out as he approached his kids, you stepped back with tears in your eyes. âWhatever it is, you couldnât have waited until everyone left?â Your father stepped in front of James as your your mother grabbed your arm.
James shook his fatherâs hands off, âWhatever it is, she is dating him, dad.â Your brother pointed at Regulus, looking back at you. He shook his head in shame making the tears fall.
âOkay, chill out, Prongs.â Sirius stated, James scoffed.
âChill out? You have no problem with this?â
Euphemia snapped her head to look at Sirius, âdo not answer that.â She scolded , Looking at her husband, âDeal with him.â Looking at James, you hated the feeling as you walked into your home and your family staring at you. You heard the yelling outside as your mom brought you into the kitchen.
âYou didnât tell him?â She spoke softly, bringing her chair closer to soothe you.
You breathed out, âI never knew how, I wanted to, I did. But he has no right to act like that towards him.â You said, your mother could feel your emotions flowing through you but mostly anger.
âSweetie, I know, he does not but please take a deep breath in,â she said waiting for you too, once you did she smiled. âNow out.â
The kitchen door opened, âOh, darling.â You mother cooed, you looked up seeing Regulus with Sirius standing beside him, Remus stood awkwardly behind them. Euphemia left your side to care for Regulus who avoided eye contact with you, you watched his every movement as Remus took your motherâs seat. You flinched when Regulus would wince, Remus grabbed onto your hand.
The door opened once again but you didnât look, âsweetheart,â you fathers voice caught everyone attention. âGo talk to your brother.â He said, you gave him a look.
He gave you a look, everyone in the kitchen knew you and your father could talk through looks for hours, Sirius was freaked for the first time when he witnessed it.
He cleared his throat, âenough with that, sunny. Go.â His voice was stern, you rolled your eyes but stood up. Fleamont smiled as you walked passed him, he made sure to listen for the back door before he sat down.
You shut the door behind you looking at your brothers back, he knew it was you, he always did but this time he didnât turn around.
âI really donât wanna talk to you,â he said without looking at you, you bit your lip.
âJamie, Iâm sorry.â
âIt doesnât mean anything, please just go.â
Your eyes filled with tears, he had never once told you to go. Yeah, you two had foughtâ sometimes literally, never had he been like this and it made you feel horrible. You opened the door, one of your cousins called your name, you put on your best smile as you approached them, luckily no one asked about what happened for the rest of the day. You were grateful but now as everyone left, you looked for Regulus and he was nowhere to be seen.
âMom, have you seen Regulus?â You asked as she sat beside you, she shook her head. You frowned looking at James who was back to smiling and laughing with his friends. You mother watched, she hated when her kids argued but this was the worst sheâs ever seen it and sheâs seen a lot.
You and your mother watched as Sirius and James did horrible karaoke to Christmas songs, you grimaced as they made everyone join. You snuck out of the room as they began to sing, horribly at that. Seeing Regulus through the windows, sitting outside in a small jacket as he watched the snow.
He looked up as you opened the door with a shiver, you said nothing as you sat beside him. The two of you sat in silence for a few minutes before you spoke up.
âIâm sorry,â you murmur afraid if you spoke louder you would start to cry again. Regulus looked at you but regretted it when he met your teary eyes. âItâs not your fault,â he whispered. You smiled softly, âkind of is.â
He laughed under his breath, âKind of is, but also mine.â
You laughed, âyouâre not mad at me, are you?â You dared to ask, he looked at you again with a shocked look. âWhy would I be mad at you? Your brother punched me.â He smiled but you frowned, he brought his hand to your face, it was freezing but you didnât say anything.
âMy love, Iâm not mad at you. Iâm hurt⌠Iâm hurt because your brother doesnât approve of us and I was terrified that if he didnât that you would leave me.â He confessed blinking hardly, you stared at him.
âLove, I would neverâ is there something in your eye?â You asked looking at him oddly, he rubbed his eyes harshly. âSomething like that.â He mumbled, you moved his hands from his face.
âAre you crying?â
Regulus let out a scoff wiping his face, âwha- no! I think snow fell in my eye.â He sputtered out, you laughed.
âYouâre crying! Holy shit. Youâre crying at the thought of me leaving you.â You wanted to laugh and cry at the thought of, Regulus tried to deny but ended up letting his head fall onto your chest as you wrapped your arms around him. âYeah, I am.â He admitted though it came out muffled, you smiled kissing his hair.
The two of you sat with each other for a while until he said something, âLove, I canât hear you.â You spoke as he brought his head up.
âIâm freezing, your skin is cold.â
You laughed as he sat up, âIâm cold because itâs snowing out and my freezing boyfriend is laying on me.â You said grabbing his hand to pull him up. He intertwined your fingers after he stood up, the two of you walked into the house hearing laughter upstairs.
Your parents saw the two of you, âSweetheart,â You looked at your mother who jerked her head. âGo upstairs and warm up, Iâll be there in a second.â You said pecking Regulusâ lips letting go of his hands as you approached your parents. They both said nothing as they looked over your shoulder.
âWhat?â You laughed looking over your shoulder, your laughter faded away seeing James sulking on the couch. He had a drink in his hand but just stared at it, you bit the inside of your cheek. Turning around your parents looked at you, without saying anything they told you to talk him, again.
You turned around, James looked at you but quickly turned backâ he actually turned his body away from you making you laugh as you sat beside him.
âJamie, seriously Iâm sorry but thatâs unnecessary.â You said as he scoffed.
âItâs totally unnecessary when my sister has lied to me for months.â
You laughed again, âI didnât lie, I just didnât tell youââ
âSo all those times I asked where you were and you said somewhere, you were there and not with him?â
You were quiet, you could tell James was actually upset and just covering it up with being dramatic like he always did.
âJames, please just look at me.â
âI really donât want to, you make me sick.â
âFucking hell, James I swear just look at me and talk to me, Iâm sorry! It hurt me to not tell you but look at how you reacted! I was terrified of that, I was terrified of how you looked at me today because I never want to lose you.â You cried causing James to turn around, his eyes filled with tears seeing his sister cry, it always happened.
âYouâre never gonna lose me, sunny. Iâm just hurt you couldnât tell me.â He sighed, you frowned.
âItâs not all about me, Jamie. I love him,â you glared at your brother as he rolled his eyes. âI do, Jamie. Please, Iâm not gonna do this with you.â You said with a sigh, sniffling James looked at your pleading eyes.
James Potter hated seeing his sister cry, every time you did he made her tell him why and if someone had made her cry. He would prank them for years or even punch them because they broke up with her, just anything he could do to because they made you cry.
Now he was them, he watched as tears continued to fall down your red cheeks. His heart broke thinking of you thinking you would lose him.
âSunny,â he whispered wiping your falling tears, bringing you into a hug, you sighed softly.
âYouâre not gonna lose me, sunny, never.â He said into your hair, you pulled away.
âOkay,â you nodded.â âBut thatâs not it.â
James licked his lips, âI know, Iâm sorry for doing that and saying the things I did to him.â
âI donât need that apology.â You said as he looked away, âJames, you donât have to love him but just- just please tolerate him.â
âFine.â
You smiled kissing his cheek as you walked away, walking into your room seeing Regulus tucked underneath a pile of your blankets causing you to laugh. He peeked from them, he smiled as he pushed them to the side as you laid on top of him then bringing them to lay on top of the two of you.
Without a word, Regulus captured your lips onto his. You smiled into the kiss bringing your hands to his hair as his fell onto your hips, âI love you,â he muttered into the kiss.

Marauders Drabble request: Sirius calling you âthe wifeâ or âthe mrsâ even though youâre not married

âOkay, gotta go,â he slaps his legs, rising from the plush velvet sofa in the common room and striding towards the portrait hole away from the rest of the marauders, âthe missus wants us to go on a walk round the black lake before dinner,â
âThe what now?â James cranes his neck to make eye contact with Sirius, smirking at his friendâs suddenly wide eyes.
âUh,â he shifted his weight from foot to foot, glancing across the room before recovering his confidence and striding through the portrait hole and calling, âthe missus, boys! James if you werenât such a wuss you could get my brother but nooooo,â

"How do you feel funny?" He asks his hand going to caress his now aching cock.
"I dont know." You whine frusterated.
"Y/N, I won't take an attitude." He cautions. "Where do you feel funny?"
"Down there." You point to your pussy. His cock lets out a small spurt of precum. He continues to caress it. Unable to take his hand off. "When your hand does that it makes my tummy ache and down there gets all wet like I peed myself."

And I Love Her | J.P.
Pairing: James Potter x Female Reader
Summary: The 3 times James tries to get the girl and the 1 time he finally does. Or In which James Potter is hopelessly in love with his best friend.
Warnings: so. much. pining., idiots to lovers, miscommunication(s), a dash of angst, some heavy kissing, james potter being the literal definition of boyfriendism
Word Count: 4.8k
a/n: hi ! james potter won the poll and i am so completely okay with it. i really intended for this to be angst but he's just SO boyfriend. this may be my favorite thing i've ever written and i really hope you enjoy it too ! p.s. i missed u guys lots and i'm so grateful you've stuck around after months of crickets from me. love u love u love u<3
(y/n).
Depending on who you asked, it was only a name. The name of a classmate, or a friend, or yourself, but only a name nonetheless.
Unless you asked James Potter.
It wasnât only a name. Not to him. To James, it was everything.
Because it was your name.
Your name that hastened his heartbeat with every mention.
Your name that sent a salient stream of blood rushing to his cheeks, tinting them a lucent shade of scarlet.
Your name that, once mentioned, seemed to follow him everywhere, as though the wind itself would begin whispering it, rustling alongside the branches of the whomping willow tree before floating its way over to his ears, sounding sweeter than any melody heâd ever heard before.
To state it simply, James Potter was irrevocably, inconceivably, in love with you.
But saying it that way didnât seem like enough.
He didnât just love you with his heart, for his heart could stop beating. And he didnât only love you with his mind, for his memories could fail him one day. James Potter loved you with the entirety of his soul, with every fibre making up his being. Of that, he was certain.
What he wasnât certain of however, was how to bare his infatuated soul to you.
After all, how exactly does one tell his best friend heâs besotted with her?
He tried the gentle approach first.Â
The train back to Hogwarts was filling up quickly. Stories of his peersâ summer holidays flow obstreperously through the air as Jamesâ eyes remain glued to the door of him and his friendsâ usual compartment.
âEase off it with the evil eye, Prongs. Sheâll be here.â Siriusâ teasing voice breaks James away from his thoughts, which were unsurprisingly fixated on you.
He doesnât bother denying it, well aware heâs been staring daggers at the door since he stepped foot off platform 9 ž, anxiously awaiting your appearance after spending the entire summer holiday apart from you.
âLeave him be, Pads. He misses her.â Remus interjects kindly, not lifting his eyes from the well-worn pages of whichever book heâs decided to burrow his attention into for the ride back to Hogwarts.
âWell he can join the bloody club then, canât he?â Sirius starts, intent on ignoring Remusâ suggestion, âIâve just about fallen for her myself after spending my entire holiday listening to this git recite his bloody sonnets for her,â he continues with a not-so flattering mimicry of a lovesick James, âIt is the east! And (y/n) is the sun. O Romeo!â He throws himself dramatically to the floor on his knees, clasping his hands above his heart.
Peter watches the spectacle with a grin, covering up his chuckle with a cough after James sends him a look of warning. Before James can defend himself against Siriusâ melodrama, the door to their compartment slides open, revealing a beautiful and slightly out of breath you.
And suddenly youâre not the only one whoâs out of breath.
Youâve gotten even prettier over the summer, somehow. If somebody had asked James before, if he thought you could possibly have gotten any more beautiful, heâdâve laughed in their face, telling them tales of how your beauty could put Aphrodite to shame. But now? Now his heart was beating so violently in his chest he was almost certain it was attempting to escape, trying to take its rightful place upon your sleeve.
âSorry Iâm late, I nearly broke my neck out there!â You stop briefly to catch your breath, the jog on your way over winding you more than youâd care to admit. âSomeone ought to tell those first-years thereâs enough seats on here for the lot of us. Iâve just been walloped by a bloody eleven year old! Cheeky little-â You cease your rambling amidst your confusion at the sight before you, Sirius on his knees at Jamesâ feet.
âHave I interrupted something? Perhaps a proposal of sorts?â You jest, your amusement growing at the wide eyed look on Jamesâ face as he scrambles to stand, coming to greet you properly with a hug that doesnât last nearly as long as you wish it would.
âNo!â He protests instantly, amidst wrapping you in the soft embrace.
âCor, Iâve missed you.â He mumbles after pulling away, leaving a hand on your back as he gently guides you to your seat beside him, hesitant to do so, as once youâre sat heâll no longer have an excuse to touch you.
âI missed you more!â Your enthusiasm brings him optimism, thereâs a chance she means it the way you do, he thinks, thereâs a chance-
âAnd what of me?â Sirius and his bloody interjections. James has half a mind to lock him out of the ruddy compartment and leave him to fend for himself amongst the overzealous first-years.
âIâm sorry, have we met?â You feign confusion, though not very well, James can see the brilliant smile forming leisurely upon your lips. What I would do to those lips, his thoughts are running rampant after a summer spent away from your presence, too caught up to hear the jokes you and Sirius are trading back and forth, and that laugh! His internal monologue continues, âs like a proper bloody song. Just ask her, right now. If she says no you can play it off as a joke. It might sting a bit, but surely itâd be better than keeping it all locked away.
âWill you go to Hogsmeade with me? Just us two? Weâll have a lovely time, I swear it.â
He knows what he was hoping youâd say, something along the lines of âYes, James, Iâd love to!â but he wasnât expecting it.
He also wasnât expecting your given response.
âThatâs a wonderful idea, Jamie, thank you! Dâyou see that, Sirius? A helpful suggestion. You ought to try one of those sometime.â Youâre back to chatting with Sirius and Remus as Peter leans over to James, whispering an explanation to his visibly confused friend.
James had caught you mid-complaint about how youâd forgotten to bring the dittany leaves you need to make the special healing chocolates you gift Remus after a particularly bad full moon. After Siriusâ not-so-helpful suggestion to try substituting them with pot leaves, you gladly welcomed the chance to pop over to Hogsmeade with James and buy some more.
Youâd mistaken his date proposal for a shopping trip.
Marvellous.
This is going to be the year that James tells you how he feels. Heâll make sure of it.
If for no other reason than this was your seventh and final year at Hogwarts together. His stomach churned at the mere idea of allowing you to slip through his fingers for good; you acting as the coarse sand to his adamant hourglass. He wouldnât have it.
So heâd try again.
In the few weeks since youâve returned to Hogwarts, your timeâs been consumed by studying for your N.E.W.T.s. Youâre also determined to acquire a spot in the internship programme at St. Mungoâs. The sheer amount of time youâve spent there with your boys over the last few years has more than prepared you for a future as a healer if you end up enjoying the work.
âAlright, who was the first witch to extract floo powder?â James has spent the last hour and a half quizzing you on all matters Herbology, if it were anyone else heâdâve been bored to slumber by now. But it wasnât anyone else, it was you.
The two of you were sat outside together on a blanket, taking full advantage of the uncharacteristically sunny day. James is leaned comfortably back against a tree as you sit across from him, simultaneously taking notes and answering each of his questions without pause.
âIgnatia Wildsmith. Ravenclaw. Come âead James, Iâve told you to stop going easy on me! Every seventh-year applying will know all of these.â Bloody lucky I love her so much, James thinks to himself, I thought that was a hard one.
Heâd like to laugh your nerves away, crack a few jokes and tell you that you may be going a bit overboard. Youâre going to get the internship, and not just because youâre brilliant and perfectly qualified, but also because your Herbology professor had written a glowing recommendation letter singing your praises.
But he canât find it in himself to mess around when youâve got that adorable little wrinkle between your eyebrows displaying your worry, and your lips have turned down into a delectably kissable pout. It takes nearly everything in him not to brush it away with his own lips.Â
â(y/n),â He starts, wetting his lips with his tongue as he desperately attempts to keep his thoughts from overtaking his voice, âItâs going to be alright, I promise. Youâre more than ready for this. Why donât we try taking a little break?â His heart feels as though itâs leapt into his throat when you glance at him and send a delicate smile of gratitude.
âIâm sorry, Jamie. Weâve been at this for hours, you must be exhausted of me by now.â You smile, more cheerful this time as you realize a break is precisely what you need.
James canât contain the laugh that escapes him.
Exhausted? Of you?Â
The absurdity of thinking he could ever grow tired of you was an inherently laughable concept to him.
Heâs nearly clutching his stomach when he finally manages to compose himself, making heart-stopping eye contact with his equally amused and puzzled best friend.
âAre you mad?â Jamesâ dimpled smile sets a kaleidoscope of butterflies aflutter in your stomach, âIâd spend all my hours with you if I could.â He means it with every atom that makes up his being, heâs meant it for years but now heâs actually saying it to you.
Your smile grows wider with each word he speaks, your own thoughts matching the underlying sentiment of his articulation more than he could ever know.
âI-â He pauses, inhaling deeply and squeezing his eyes shut tightly in an effort to maintain his courage, âI love you.â You did it, he thinks to himself proudly, you actually bloody did it, Prongs! He exhales shakily, reinitiating eye contact with you as a small smile begins to blossom on his tender lips.
âJames,â Your voice holds an underlying tone of sadness that causes an adorable crinkle of confusion to settle between Jamesâ eyebrows, âI love you too.â You smile tightly, almost as though itâs causing you discomfort to do so.
âYou do?â James is more perplexed now than he had been when youâd explained to him in painstaking detail the intricate relationships between each member of Fleetwood Mac the first time the two of you listened to Rumours together.
âOf course I do,â Your smile stretches intimately, the somber quality of your voice never wavering, âYouâre my best mate, after all.â
Best mate? James thinks, is that really all she sees?
Had he not been so caught up in his own racing thoughts, he may have picked up on yours. He may have realized that his situation was holding a gargantuan mirror up to your own, casting a perfect reflection of the feelings within.
Best mates, you internally chastise yourself, thatâs all he sees.
A proper bloody mirror.
âIt was completely humiliating, Pads. She might as wellâve called me her bloody brother.â James has been yammering on about what happened that day for the past three weeks. Three weeks. Sirius is going positively mad, somehow having become Jamesâ sounding board to rehash his complaints every time he remembers the encounter.
âI mean, how am I supposed to tell the girl Iâd like to spend the rest of my life with her now?â James is pacing back and forth agitatedly at the foot of Siriusâ bed, as the aforementioned boy lays back uninterestedly, wishing his duvet would come to life and swallow him whole in an effort to escape the worlds most redundant conversation.
âSheâd probably tell you that sounds lovely. Make you her future childâs godparent.â Sirius jokes dryly.
James abandons his invisible footpath, a wave of panic comically widening his warm hazel eyes substantially.
âShe what?â
âFor Merlinâs sake, Prongs! I canât take any more of this,â Sirius sits up agitatedly, now far beyond his capacity for Jamesâ lovesick commentaries, âJust go tell her. Right now.â
âAre you mad? Have you not just heard everything Iâve said?â James would normally find humour in Siriusâ lackadaisical attitude, but confessing his feelings for you was an entirely serious matter with no margin for error.
âOh Iâve heard it, Prongs. For the past three weeks. And the entire bloody summer. And every single year before that.â He moves to stand in front of James, his agitation fading into sincerity, âI know how you feel, Prongs. But does she?â James swallows thickly as Sirius continues, âI donât mean just telling her you love her, I mean telling her how you love her. As more than a friend. Maybe she feels the same way.â
James takes his time considering Siriusâ words. Heâs tried to tell you, clearly, but he assumed that youâd only seen him as a friend. But what if you hadnât? What if Sirius is right, and you told him you loved him as a friend because youâd assumed thatâs what heâd meant when he said it?
âIâm a proper git, arenât I?â James concludes aloud.
âMost certainly, Prongsy. Itâs why I keep you around,â Siriusâ playful mood returns swiftly, âMakes me feel better about myself.âÂ
Youâre talking softly with Remus in the library, voices low enough not to disrupt your peers but just detectable enough for James to catch your words when he finds you, internally preparing his declaration of unwavering devotion for you.
âYouâre not going out with him, are you?â Remusâ hushed voice holds a curious tone.
âOf course not, Rem.â You smile softly, âCould you honestly imagine that? Him and I dating?â
Jamesâ eyebrows furrow together in confusion, he presses himself slightly against a nearby bookshelf in an attempt to hear your conversation more clearly.
âNo, I guess not,â Remus chuckles faintly, âIt would certainly make things awkward if they didnât work out. Being friends and all.âÂ
âNo kidding.â You chuckle good-naturedly.Â
James feels like a bag of cement has been poured down his throat, constricting his lungs and settling into a block of concrete in the pit of his stomach.
Sirius had been wrong. You didnât love James as more than a friend, in fact, youâd practically laughed at the thought of it. In his hasty escape from the scene of the melancholic crime, James neglected to hear the rest of your conversation with Remus.
âHeâs a lovely lad, truly,â You smile genuinely, âAny girl would be lucky to call Amos Diggory her boyfriend. Weâre just better as friends is all.â You trail off, leaving out the part where your heart already belongs to another shared friend of yours and Remusâ.
Itâs not like it was ever going to happen anyway. Your love for James Potter was entirely unreciprocated.
Wasnât it?
James is avoiding you.
As painful as it is to spend each never-ending moment of spare time away from you, James can only think of how much more agonizing it would be to spend those moments with you.
To fix his loving gaze on your sparkling eyes, only to find them filled with affections one would hold only for a friend.
To accomplish the feat of bringing a luminous smile to your delicate lips, only to remember those lips would never brush tenderly against his own.
To be so close to the girl he loves, only to be denied her heart in equal measure.
Itâs easier, in a sense, to push you away.
Itâs only temporary, just until he can stomach the thought of spending the rest of his life as your best mate and nothing more.
But itâs been weeks, and the idea still makes his head feel like itâs underwater, like heâs fighting to reach the surface but his legâs been caught on a viciously determined blade of seaweed.
Still, heâs convinced himself that this is his best course of action.
Unbeknownst to James, however, youâve been going stark raving mad.
Youâve hardly spoken to him in weeks. When you think about it, youâve barely even seen him, save for a few quick glimpses in your classes and across the dining tables in the Great Hall.
Youâve tried to talk to him, clearly something is bothering him. Maybe youâve said or done something to upset him without realizing it. But heâd brushed you off before you could even get out the words âare you alright?â
Youâd asked Remus, Sirius, and Peter about it, each of them giving you vague semblances of justification that fell entirely flat, a few âHeâs just busy with quidditchâs and a couple of âMust be studying todayâs. Youâve grown tired of the excuses and youâre determined to get to the bottom of it yourself.
Youâre leaning picturesquely against the wall outside of the ladâs changing room when James finally sees you again. His curly hair is spilling droplets of water from the shower heâs just taken, successfully washing away the evidence of his quidditch practice.
Youâre beautiful. Thatâs all he can think as he finally allows himself to take you in fully for the first time in weeks. He feels like heâs been holding his breath since he saw you last and now he can finally exhale, a sense of euphoria filling his chest as his lungs deflate mercifully.
âHi.â You state gently, a delicate smile painted daintily across your lips.
âHi.â James echoes once heâs relearned the inhale-exhale repetition of breathing again.
âI waited for you,â You start after a brief silence, âWhich- You can see that, obviously.â You chuckle a ebullient breath that causes a small smile to form on Jamesâ face, Merlin, Iâve missed that, he thinks as you continue. âI just, um- I thought maybe we could talk?â Youâre fiddling with your fingers, a nervous habit of yours that James has long since memorized by now.
He instantly reaches for your hands, tenderly taking one in his own and carefully intertwining your fingers together with his. The action is like second nature, he hardly thinks twice about it.
You smile visibly at the act of comfort, if heâs upset with you and thatâs the reason heâs been avoiding you, it makes your heart skip a beat that heâs putting it all aside to calm you down when youâre anxious.
âAbout what?â He tries, though you both know thatâs not going to work.
âNice,â You smile teasingly, âWant to give it a real go this time?â
James swallows something akin to a lump in his throat, averting his resplendent hazel gaze from your eyes to land somewhere along the floor as he overthinks which approach he should take.
He could try honesty. Yes, he thinks, because that would go over proper well. Iâm avoiding you cause Iâve been gutted since I heard youâre not in love with me. Surely sheâll find that real mature, Prongs.
He could also try lying his arse off. And that would work, he sarcastically chastises silently, Me? Oh nothingâs wrong at all. Just tired, yâknow? Practice and homework and the like. As if sheâs ever believed a lie youâve told her before.
He finally chances resuming eye contact with you, heartbeat hastening expeditiously as his hazel orbs lock onto your patently awaiting eyes. You should be looking far more frustrated, James wouldnât blame you if you were. You have every right to be upset, and yet youâre not.
Instead, youâre you.Â
You, whoâs calmly awaiting a response, fingers still gently intertwined with Jamesâ.Â
You, whoâs looking at him with soft, sparkling eyes, eyes that are silently promising him no matter what he says, everything is going to be alright.
You, the girl he loves more than anything in the world.
âYou.â He states after an implicit eternity.
âMe?â Your features mix together to create a perfectly darling display of confusion that, even despite the circumstances, causes a modest smile to tug upwards at the corners of Jamesâ mouth.
âIâve been avoiding you.â He conveys, sounding as though heâs just revealed to you a hidden secret youâdâve never otherwise been able to uncover.
You canât contain the short laugh that escapes you, a smile taking its rightful place on your face. âYeah, âm not exactly Sherlock Holmes, but I managed to put that one together.â
James canât subdue the traces of guilt that seep onto his face.
âI was hoping maybe we could talk about why. If Iâve done something to upset you-â
âNo!â James cuts you off, âNo, love, you havenât done anything. Nothing you could control anyway.â His voice is less than half of its usual volume at the last sentence he utters.
Your face is back to holding that adorably confused expression that James so desperately yearns to kiss away.
âI have to admit, Jamie, Iâve got no idea what youâre on about.â
James sighs, finally releasing the hand thatâs been holding comfortably on to your own and running it through his leisurely drying hair. He releases a sigh of distress and squeezes his eyes shut firmly in an attempt to figure out the best way to explain himself.
âIf youâre not upset with me, then why have you been avoiding me?â Youâre trying to put it together on your own as James is proving to be no help, âWait a mo! Is this some kind of prank or something?â You smile, though youâre not entirely certain youâre correct yet, âAre you trying to get back at me for dying your knickers pink? Because that was an accident!âÂ
James canât help but smile at your incorrect deduction. Merlin sheâs adorable he thinks, how am I supposed to tell her now?
âYes!â James concludes untruthfully, âYou got me. Just a prank. Mightâve gone a bit too far with it though. Sorry âbout that, love.â
He brings you into a hug and, after going weeks without it, it feels like home.
You feel like home.
Youâre hugging James, after having just gone weeks without it. And you just know.Â
You have to tell him.
You have to tell him, right now, that youâre in love with him.
And so you do.
âI love you.â You state breathlessly, pulling away from the warm solace of his embrace and looking bravely into his glimmering hazel eyes.
James nods his head mechanically, as if heâs agreeing to your suggestion on what to have for dinner and not taking in the confession of eternal love youâve just spouted.
âYes, I love you too,â He smiles a tight, strained smile, âMate.â He punctuates his final word by bumping his fist gently into your shoulder.
Oh, you think, Iâm going to have to spell it out for him, arenât I?
âNo, James. I love you,â You take a step closer to him, not breaking eye contact despite the nerves that are jostling around your insides like a violent sea in a raging storm, taking a deep breath before exhaling somewhat expeditiously, you continue, âLike- Like, Iâm in love with you.â
The first thing James feels in that moment are his eyes widening emphatically behind his round-rimmed glasses, his dark lashes making direct contact with the top of his eyelids. Heâs certain he must have heard you wrong, that or heâs understood you wrong.
The second thing he feels is hope. What if he hadnât understood you wrong?
The third thing he feels is his heart, beating faster than it ever has before, so fast he thinks it might be ready to do him in for good. Surely a heart shouldnât be beating that fast.
âYouâre in love? With me?â James speaks disbelievingly, though heâs unable to hide the traces of optimism heâs feeling as a modest smile begins to form on his face.
You nod your head assuredly, a genial smile of your own starting at the sight of his, âYes, Iâm in love with you. Madly, in fact.â
Youâve spent months, years even, deliberating on how you would tell James, if you would tell James. Youâd spent countless hours wondering how he would react and what would happen after all was said and done.
Youâd planned to tell him all about that. About how long youâve felt this way, when it started and why itâs taken you so long to tell him, how you were too afraid of risking your best friend should anything have gone wrong.
What you hadnât planned on was what happened the second you got the last word out.
James eagerly presses his plush lips onto your own, savouring the long overdue sensation of your mouth against his. He tenderly brushes your bottom lip with his tongue once he feels you respond to the kiss with equal fervour. Enthusiastically, you grant his tongue access into your mouth, pulling him closer to you by the roots of his damp hair.
James lets out a low groan at the contact, pulling you flush against his body by your waist, his hands hungrily gripping onto you for dear life as, somehow, the kiss deepens even further.
When the need for oxygen outweighs your mutual need for each others lips, you reluctantly part the slightest of distances, foreheads resting tenderly against one another.
âIâm in love you too. So bloody madly.â James whispers contentedly with a lovesick grin.Â
Youâre each donning smiles brighter than you can ever recall before.
The moment youâve caught your breath youâre back at it again in full force, gripping at each others clothes and tangling nimble fingers through the otherâs hair. James pulls back when your beaming smile makes it a little harder for him to kiss you, returning a smile just as wide that compels you to pull him back in for another kiss, or two, or three.
When the two of you finally feel satiated enough, James pulls back again, a noticeably farther distance. Heâs still smiling but it isnât quite as bright as it was a moment ago.
âWhat was all that about in the library, then? With Moony?â He asks you the question thatâs been clawing at his insides for the last few weeks.
You pause, visibly confused as you shuffle through the files of your memories until you land on one a few weeks ago with Remus in the library. The two of you were discussing a friend whoâd asked you on a date. Youâd declined as politely as you could, valuing his friendship but knowing your heart had long since been beating for James.
âWhat about it?â You smile confusedly.
âWell, you were talking about me, werenât you?â James looks down to the floor, expression now almost devoid of the happiness that had previously overtaken every inch of his face.
âWhat?â You laugh briefly before it registers, not just his words, but the reason heâs been avoiding you for the last few weeks.
âWait- James!â You tilt your head into his line of vision, gently cradling his face with your hand as you turn his head to face you fully, âIs that why youâve been avoiding me? You thought.. Oh, Merlin.â
You pull him into a hug, holding him tight enough to convey just how wrong heâs been.
âI was talking about Amos Diggory.â You state with a gentle exhale, something between a laugh and a sigh, pulling back you rest your arms at your sides. âHe asked me to dinner.â
James doesnât hide the relief that courses through his body, despite the slight scoff of jealousy he lets out at your final sentence.
âBut,â You wrap your arms back around him in reassurance, looking up into his eyes that are once again sparkling with happiness, âIâve been a tad busy, being in love with my best friend and all. So I told him no. Obviously.â
âRight, obviously.â James replies with a cheeky smile that makes your heart skip a beat.
âYouâre a git, you know.â You roll your eyes, the action a mixture of lovesickness and frustration. âYou couldâve just asked me then. Instead of hiding in the books like a proper stalker. And then avoiding me. For weeks,â Youâre smiling, but you know youâre still getting your point across, âYou git.â You punctuate your final word with a gentle swat to Jamesâ chest, smiling adoringly when he grabs that hand and brings it up to his lips, placing a tender kiss to it before dropping your intertwined hands back at your side.
âI know,â He admits apologetically, âIâm sorry.â Heâs smiling breathtakingly, âStill love me?â
You canât find it in yourself to be upset with him, because in some roundabout way, itâs what led you to this moment right now, where you can reach over and kiss him if you want to.
And you want to.Â
Pulling him into you by the fabric of his shirt, you plant another kiss upon Jamesâ lips. The passion and tenderness in the kiss meld together just as perfectly as your lips do.
âYes.â You mumble happily when your mouths finally break apart. âAlways.â
