The tall, almost impossibly slender being looms over, his eyes wide and unblinking as he stares at the other being before him, analysing them.

It is difficult to work out just what he is looking for, is it fear? Strength? A weakness of some sort? His expression gives them not even a hint, before he tilts his head barely to the right.

"Are you not afraid? Does your body not quiver at the sight of one such as me? Or are you perhaps frozen in fear?" He asks.

Of course, he knows the answer, but, he is willing to allow for the truth to be told, perhaps at first, at least.

(Wrote a roleplay-compliant nightmare scene for the fun of it— post Vol 2 survivor AU, basically. Adam might be “human” and Jonah might be alive, but they sure as hell aren’t traumatized by what happened, even after a year. Rough around the edges, didn’t really proofread.)

Jonah was in a field of flowers when he woke up. He groaned, softly rubbing at his temples, before looking up and staring at the area beyond him. A lone apple tree was placed in the distance, the blob of a person he knew he recognized as Adam standing tall under its canopy. Legs scrambled upwards, rushing towards the man, feet stomping against the ground.

Screaming. He heard screaming, thousands of tiny screams coming from under him. When he looked, the grass was sticky with blood, the flowers indescribable and yet yowling out in pure, primordial pain. He stepped back, hearing the crunch of bones as he crushed more of the things. He looked up, looked up at Adam, desperation in his gaze.

Disgust was the only thing that was shot back at him, but it was disgust under a hood, a hood he couldn’t make out anything real out of. An apple was held up to his mouth, and Jonah stumbled back, ignoring the screams around him to let out one of his own, a hand outstretching as he almost felt himself being pulled back. No, Adam, don’t do it, plEASE, DON’T DO I—

crunch.

The soft flowers around him wilted away, the trees leaves falling then dying until the world was cast in shades of winter. Snow crunched underfoot, as he continued to stumble back, his screams getting louder and more desperate as the man in front of him tore his mouth from the apple. Blood coated his mouth, stringing from the thing as it dropped to the ground, melting into a pile of fleshy goo in the cold.

Eyes turned to his, bright and unwavering, the hate piercing through his soul like a fire. And then, his feet slipped, and he tumbled, falling off a cliff and into the icy water below, except it wasn’t water. It was oil. He yelled, desperately trying to move his limbs, but they wouldn’t budge, nothing would budge, and his voice filtered out, nothing but bubbles in the water as he sank, and he sank, and he sank, he couldn’t breathe, hE COULDN’T BREATHE—

He was on ground again. He was on ground again, icy cold and heartless and dark, hands and knees laying in snow stained with the dark red hues of his blood. A cough resonated, more of it splattering onto white, and yet his hands still began moving, still began to try and drag himself through the muck.

Every time he blinked, his surroundings changed. From snow to lava to sludge to the incessant feeling of eyes staring deep into him, flesh underhand and underfoot as he blinked again and it turned to stardust. Movements became more frantic, more agonizing, the scenery continuing as it melted into cement and then to pillows, to sand and paper and blood and tears and everything else his mind could conjure up. He didn’t know when he heard the screaming start, or when he heard it end, until he coughed up another sticky splatter and his hands and knees buckled under him. He was in the snow again, in the warm, warm snow, and his senses felt numb and all he could do was welcome it. Everything went dark.

do you guys have any ghost stories of the park you like to tell?

Kind of! To be honest that’s more Sam’s thing but Thorne also loves scaring the crap out of all the rangers. When it comes to like — stories about spooky stuff happening in the park I kinda lose interest. It’s all just nonsense. My favourite story though to tell around a campfire is the classic one about the girl with the ribbon around her neck whose head falls off when it comes undone. Maybe the hairy toe one too, although that one isn’t that scary and it’s childish I just think it’s a classic.
