Yea the like, zing is exactly what I'm thinking lol, like... I don't think a hardline "no pain at all" would rly do it for him. And like we talk about, not all pain is bad pain, it can be a sensation like any other, and ofc the big example is spicy food and etc.
I also love your think about deep muscle massages, I think yes bc it fulfills Bond's needs of (1) Q's intimate hands-on attention (2) seeing to his poor abused muscles & probably may ortho injuries (3) being pummeled to death, esp by Q lol.
And yes yes yes to the trust & security (and being ABLE to give it all up - complete sidebar but and this is why Writing's on the Wall is 100% a 00q song) to Q being as/maybe more intoxicating than the physical sensations. Like he can get physical sensations anywhere, but the high of giving himself over entirely to something. that is, also notedly,. cares for/about him back, and is like, fundamentally non-destructive? whoof. (like he can give himself over to Q&C sure but. in the end they're cold concepts & can't care for him back. unlike Q. who is warm and strong and right there and can & will take him in hand firmly but lovingly)
But re: your additions in the last part yes I think it even holds out in canon? That he craves Q's attention even in the early days and probably not consciously. But it's like. watching the Spectre scene with the way he sidles up to Q. He's not entirely coy about it, but you gotta admit there is just that edge of coyness to it. The man isn't full-on sajiao'ing yet, but. we're getting there.
Re: this note, he was surprised by the jab in Spectre so he reacted a lot, BUT if you compare his Ow in Casino Royale to the one in NTTD. Not to become a fake Body Language expert or anything but ummm Casino Royale: Direct Eye Contact with M, no flinch, no blinking, pointedly looking over at the tech, flat purposeful Ow. meanwhile NTTD: bantering, leaning his head away to give Q better accesss (granted the camera angle is different but it looks like Nomi doesn't quite lean her head away that much, not as much as Bond does; she just kind of tilts her head slightly meanwhile Bond is like, *opens up his entire side of his neck to Q*), the eye close (sorry to bring more cat Bond into this lmao, but as we know with cats!! they don't have to blink their eyes as much so closing their eyes is a sign of trusstt), the. the dang little eyelid flutter he does after it 👀
listen maybe it's Not That Deep; but also, maybe it could be, I got shovels & I'm willing to dig.
one thing I lowkey have been debating w myself is, like, is Bond a masochist slash to what degree. Like other than the self destructive streak stuff. Like, would he be into any sort of painplay.
and I'd soorta but not rly but sorta been swayed to the "maybe not? like his life is so brutal maybe he rly just craves tenderness" camp
and it seemed to make sense esp w how he is with Q vs with other people lmao, but like.. I dunno, it didn't feel like it fully reconciled all of the different aspects we see in canon
anyway, where I've landed now is more on the side of yes, but not like anything too intense or hardcore. But I do think a bit of pain would do it for him. and re: why is he such a baby about it with Q, well. the man is a brat and also importantly, a fckn sajiao king lmao. And Q falls for it every time lmao
Bond just loooooves playing up the "🥺 am baby" with Q lol. Everyone else he's 😎 but with Q he's like Qqqqq.. I have an owie see to me RIGHT AWAYYY pwease or Im gonna DIE 🥺. very cat meowing piteously at her mommy until she spins the wheel for her, even though she damn well can run on the thing herself of him lmao
#but yea to the 'has used it in the past in destructive ways' :')#like. it would be a way to self-flagellate and also a way to like. Prove that he can take it/How Much he can Take#possibly also a stubborn refusal to let trauma rule over him & like. brute-forcing through trauma responses after Le Chiffre :')#but yea I do like the idea of Bond & Q engaging in mild painplay#(and also as you know lol. I'm a bit proponent of Q 'biting you biting you biting you')#there was a fic I read where Q didn't want to do that cuz he was like you've taken enough damage in your life#which is very sweet & I think it was cute in context#but also not 2 be cynical but i was like. man I'd be bored w that. I think Bond would be too#the man is a maniac. his idea of a soft epilogue would still involve some batshit crazy shit#but also a hundo percento Bond would loooove aftercare even if maybe if you tried to talk to him about it first#he'd be like *scoffs* nah that's for OTHER people I don't need it. in a I've got this/I'm soo in control of myself I don't get drop#and/or also I feel like. even if he can 'let go' enough to engage in self-destructive play. it's like. another layer of vulnerability#to accept & partake in aftercare ya know?#like. with taking a flogging he can just sort of go into the same headspace as his training#but aftercare is like... it's not just 'taking it' it's like uncurling your armor enough to let someone in to stroke your soft underbelly#and THAT is at an all-time premium#if we're dealing w a set-up where Bond is resistant to aftercare (oh man. and I do kind of imagine he might be... the tenderness#would *flay* him in a way that an actual whipping wouldn't...)#then imagine Q kind of like. stealth aftercaring Bond lol#and/or working little bits of gentle care into their everyday interactions and tricking him into accepting it#(like when u are trying to tame a semi-feral cat & you lure them in with food and like pet them while they're distracted eating lol)#and you get them used to it and show them hey it's OKAY to be pet and accept affection and also want it & ask for it#but yea once Q cracks open his shell. he's gonna be the *whiniest* clingiest neediest guy about it all lol#I think the difference to outsiders is like. minimal. Like he still acts the same he just whines vocally for it now#instead of sidling up to Q to 'trick him' into showing him attention as if we all don't know what this is about

Through the Flames (Part Six)

Features: Gun violence; Stabbing
Pairing: Sam Wilson/Reader
Notes: There’s one chance to take out Rumlow, once and for all.
Final part! We just have the epilogue left!
Word Count: 2475
Tumblr media
You flinched as Dr. Cho tended to your wound. Sam sat in a chair beside you the entire time, neither of you talking. Your thoughts were racing. Why did they need to talk to you about your father? You knew his work was secretive, but you never thought it could involve the Avengers in any capacity. How much was there that you didn’t know about your own father?
“Hey, hey, look at me,” Sam said. You glanced toward him.
“You’re alright. No one’s in trouble, okay? I should’ve waited to bring it up,” he said, his tone soft. You nodded.
“How are you feeling?” he asked.
“Well, I got shot at one of my best friend’s funeral’s so, you know, just peachy,” you snarked. He smiled a little at that. You grimaced as you felt the last of the stitches go in.
“I’m done. I want to see you back in a week to check on them, they should be ready to come out then,” Dr. Cho said. You nodded.
“Thanks,” you said. Sam helped you up off the hospital bed. Taking your hand in his, he led you out of the medical wing and off to the Avengers wing. He had you sit on a couch while he grabbed waters for the two of you. You took in your surroundings, admiring the simplicity of the room and how homey it felt despite it being in what amounted to a military institution. Sam returned, handing you one of the bottles.
“We have a good idea of who it was. What do you know about HYDRA?” he asked, getting right to the point. You frowned.
“Weren’t they that group that was exposed a few years ago? The one Captain Rogers thought had been wiped out?” you asked. He nodded.
“We have reason to believe some of the survivors are connected to the fires. And to the fire that killed the rest of your family,” he said, trying to break the news as delicately as he could. There was no way around ripping off that bandaid. It was going to hurt no matter how he told you.
“What are you saying Sam?” you asked, you voice raising in pitch. You were sure you were connecting the dots. There was no way he was about to suggest what you thought he was.
“Your father worked for HYDRA back in the day. But that’s not the full story. He was a plant. Fury suspected that SHIELD had been compromised but could never get solid evidence. The governor at the time had been involved in HYDRA. Your father got close enough to him to be trusted. He was working with HYDRA until the collapse in 2014, to get information for Fury. He hadn’t been able to tip him off about Pierce because it would have blown his cover,” Sam explained.
“Where is he? Is he safe? Sam, please. Is my dad safe?” you asked. You felt your anxiety rising. Sam placed a hand on your cheek, as he looked you in the eyes. It was a strangely intimate moment.
“I promise you. We’re doing everything we can to keep him safe. To keep you safe. And keep your friends safe. We’re going to stop them,” he said.
“Were the fires a threat or an attempt to kill me?” you asked. He sighed.
“We think the first ones were a message for you and your father. The last one was no doubt an attempt to kill you,” he confirmed. You sucked in a breath.
“Instead one of my best friend’s got killed,” you said. Your voice cracked and tears threatened to fall. Sam pulled you close and you wrapped your arms around him as you let yourself break.
“HYDRA is gone, but some of their more zealous members lived. Brock Rumlow is the one who shot you. We had a clear image of him on camera. We’re working on tracking him down, but it’s going to take time,” he said. You frowned.
“But I can go home right?” you asked. He shook his head.
“It’s too much of a risk right now,” he replied. You glared at him. You didn’t like where the conversation was going. It sounded more like you were going to be held as a prisoner by the Avengers, or some damsel in distress in a castle. Either way, it wasn’t you. You refused to sit back and do nothing.
“I’m going home,” you said, standing up, careful not to jostle any of your injuries too much. Sam stood with you.
“You can’t. FRIDAY won’t let you out of this building. Not until we catch Rumlow,” he explained. You glared at him. You didn’t care how much you liked Sam. In this moment, he may as well have been your worst enemy with how you were looking at him. He shrunk back under your gaze. He admired the fire in your eyes.
“You listen here Sam, and you listen good. I am not staying here. You’re driving me back to the city to my apartment and if it makes you feel better you can stay the night. But I’m not staying here,” you snapped. Sam held his hands up in mock surrender.
“No can do. As much as I’d love to, you’re safest here. You going back to your place would put your neighbors in danger,” he said. You paused for a moment. You hadn’t thought about that. You thought about Gloria nextdoor with her two kids, an adorable 3 year old and his six month old sister. Angela downstairs who’s grandkids visited constantly to check on her and spend time with her. Martin down the hall with his husband Nate, and their three kids. You knew Sam was right. You couldn’t put them at risk. Your shoulders slumped forward as you nodded in agreement.
“You’re right,” you said softly.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
“It’s not your fault some HYDRA maniac is after me. Hell, I don’t even blame my father. Sometimes that’s just how it is,” you said. You were already calculating a plan in your head. If Rumlow had gotten this far without the Avengers realizing, you had a feeling it wasn’t going to be easy for them to find him. Not without you.
This wasn’t your area of expertise. The best way to get into a car to get to an accident victim without causing further injury, how to vent a roof, signs of structural collapse, those were the things you knew. Taking on a man who was hellbent on getting to you was way outside of your depths. But if it was you he was looking to get to, there was no way you’d sit at the sidelines.
The other Avengers trickled into the room. Sam shot Captain Rogers a look. It seemed like an unspoken conversation was happening between them. A girl you recognized as the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, sat beside you.
“We won’t let them get their hands on you,” she said quietly.
“I know,” you replied. Introductions were made all around before Steve jumped into the details of the situation and the plan they had.
“Our best shot is using you to draw him out. I’m not keen on it, but we’ve hit dead ends in trying to find him and his base of operations,” Steve said.
“Absolutely not. We’re not putting her in more danger. He was trying to kill her,” Sam argued. You placed a hand on his arm, gently drawing his attention to you.
“This is my fight, Sam. I might not understand why. But he’s the reason one of my best friend’s is dead. If he wants me, he can come get me. But he’ll have to go through you guys first, won’t he?” you asked. Natasha gave you a slight smile. You counted that as a win in your book when she seemed to not like you very much.
“And if he gets through us?” Sam challenged.
“I have faith in you, Sam. You won’t let him,” you said.
“Fahrenheit’s in. So, what’s the plan, Cap?” Tony Stark asked.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Central Park was oddly quiet in the hours before dawn. But the team had ensured it was empty of civilians. You had set a routine of jogging in the park before the sun rose in the sky once you were medically cleared from your injuries from both the explosion and the gunshot. Surveillance of the park indicated Rumlow knew. And as far as he knew, you had had a falling out with Sam and had left his side, staying in a place graciously rented by Tony Stark for a staycation that had no neighbors inside the building. As far as Rumlow knew, the Avengers weren’t keeping tabs on your moves, not after the public blowup you and Sam had.
You and Sam had taken a walk through the park before going to grab lunch. He made a show of ordering for you, something he knew you hated. You kept reminding yourself. This was Sam. You liked Sam. Sam was your friend. Your very attractive friend who you wished would make a move on you because you were not about to make the first move. It didn’t take the sting away from what you knew was coming, what had to be done.
“I can order for myself,” you snapped. He held his hands up in surrender.
“Fine,” he said. Pretending to fight with him was difficult. But you knew you were being watched. It was a feeling that stuck with you every time you went out these days, ever since you left the safety of living among the Avengers. It had to be believable that you two had a falling out, that you were tired of being followed around by the Avengers.
“I’d like to go out alone for once,” you said bitterly.
“You know why you can’t,” he replied.
“Sam, I am sick and tired of being followed around like I’m a child. I’m a grown woman. I have a job, even if I’m on desk duty filling out reports,” you snapped. This was the start of it, what would hopefully draw Rumlow out.
After lunch, you and Sam stormed off in opposite directions. You had moved into the residence Tony had secured a few days prior. You made a show of tossing Sam’s stuff out as he arrived back, demanding to be left alone.
“Fine. See what happens when we’re not here to protect you,” Sam snapped as he grabbed his duffle bag. It hurt. You knew it wasn’t real, but it still hurt. You never wanted to fight with him, even if it was acting.
You snapped out of your thoughts as you heard movement. You knew Rumlow would still be suspicious. But the hope was he’d at least take the chance to get at you, even with the risk of it being a trap. You were certain you were about to find out if he took the bait.
You heard a bullet fly by your ear as a gunshot rang out. You stumbled over your feet, turning and seeing Rumlow not far behind you.
“Gotta say, I was expecting you to be better protected. I heard you and bird boy had a fight. Shame that the Avengers would just leave you like that,” Rumlow taunted. There was something about his tone that made you believe he knew it was a ruse. You all knew it had been a hail mary play.
“What of it?” you asked.
“You know it’s not your father I’m after. No. No I want him to suffer for the rest of his days, fearful about when we’ll come for him after seeing what we do to you,” Rumlow said.
“So you’re going the villainous monologue route. You do know how that turns out in the end, don’t you?” you fired back. You moved as you saw him pull the trigger again, making the choice to run toward him. You had no time to think. The team should have been there by now, but they were nowhere to be seen. You wrestled him for the gun and it clattered to the ground.
Hand to hand combat was not something they taught you in the fire academy. You tried to meet Rumlow blow for blow but you knew you were outmatched. You fell to the ground but the gun was within reach. You wasted no time in grabbing it. You fired off a shot, hitting Rumlow in the shoulder, but it wasn’t enough to incapacitate him. He was on you in seconds, the gun tossed to the side as you felt a searing pain. He had a knife on him. You heard footsteps as he was yanked away from you.
You looked up and saw Sam, worry etched on his face. You heard him yell for medical assistance.
“Keep your eyes on me,” Sam said as he kept pressure on the wound. You placed your hand over his, for your comfort or his you weren’t sure. But you weren’t planning on letting him go anytime soon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The white walls of the medical wing of the Avengers compound were a sight you were becoming too accustomed to. This time, Helen had you put in the cradle because of how deep the wound was. It was one of the more bizarre experiences of your life.
“I’m really starting to hope I never see this place again,” you said to Sam. Helen was insistent that you still stay overnight, to ensure everything healed properly.
“I’m getting tired of seeing you in here. You scared me today, you know that?” he asked. You ducked your head a little.
“Sometimes,  you have to be the hero in your own story,” you replied.
“Sometimes you don’t have to be,” he shot back.
“In my defense, I was doing okay before he pulled the knife on me,” you defended. Sam laughed a little.
“If you consider a broken nose, four broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a stab wound ‘doing okay’. I thought we were going to lose you,” Sam admitted. He looked away from you. You two were skirting around the obvious and you knew it.
“But you didn’t. I’m still here. Thanks to you. To the team. I never doubted for a minute you’d save me,” you told him.
“I was scared. Rumlow managed to take out all the surveillance we had in that area. All I can think about is how I almost didn’t have this chance,” he said. You looked at him, confused.
“What chance?” you asked. He moved closer to you, and your eyes fluttered shut as his lips met yours. Your heart rate sped up and the two of you pulled apart, resting your foreheads together.
“This one,” he said. You didn’t say a word, instead, pulling him in for another kiss.

Sorry if this is a bit depressing but I just had the most horrible thought & need to vent. We know that GRRM told D&D about some characters’ endings - what if the ending he told them for Jaime was that he and Cersei die together??? And 8x05 was D&Ds Interpretation of that (it was shit and I hated it) but what if it was partly true?? I’m legit panicking rn, I cried for weeks after season 8 finished bc I couldn’t cope I have no idea what I’ll do if Jaime somehow dies with Cersei in the books too..
I know what you feel like and every once in awhile I get depressed about that too. But I am also pretty good at envisioning Brienne and Jaime on Tarth, teaching their little baby girl how to fight with a sword, while the sun sets over dark green meadows and the sapphire blue waters and they are at peace at last – it helps.
Disclaimer my knowledge about the whole GRRM vs. Dumb&Dumber debacle is very superficial – so what I am gonna tell you now is mostly what I can remember having read in other people’s posts lmao.
So for starters I believe having read somewhere that GRRM has been less and less involved in the actual writing process of the show BC he finally started working on the books. Praise God, She is too kind. He actually said he is kind of sorry for it but work e.g books caught up to him and it seemed like he didn’t even like the ending for the show (see the post where people compared his reaction to Marvel’s Endgame vs. The Reaction to his own show – it’s somewhere on my blog but I can’t Tag for shit so yeah just Google it it’s probably faster …. )
So for me that COULD mean that he was less and less contact with the writers and honestly maybe he actually wrote some of what he told D&D but then changed his mind and wrote other endings without telling D&D because a) he felt like it b) it’s his work c) probably thought D&D were fucking incompetent d) it was too late anyway
Also I just think that if he really kills Jaime off, which is always possible but I don’t think is going to happen,  it will be way more justified death, a just death not some fucking bricks. Like we know he is looking at Jaime and Brienne as a Beauty and the Beast retelling and Cersei is not of that much importance to him and he literally said that Jaime and Cersei’s relationship disgusts him or something along the lines of that. So I really cannot come up with a lot off GRRM worthy scenarios of Jaime dying with his sister other than maybe he will have to sacrifice his life to take her down or some shit but that is boring … in my opinion. Like I just don’t see a realistic ending that involves both of them dying at the same time for the simple reason that in the books Jaime is way more important than Cersei and I, personally wouldn’t sacrifice such a multifaced character like Jaime for a probably very funny to write but sometimes rather one dimensional alcoholic maniac, powerhungry villainess … like Jaime’s redemption arc is far from complete but Cersei’s plot? Idk I am not that far in the books yet but to me it seems like all signs are pointed towards her demise. Again it’s ASOIAF so GRRM could probably still find a way to redeem her or whatever but I don’t really see the point in it. I always felt like he is writing Jaime and Cersei in a way that, as the story goes on, reveals  that they in fact don’t mirror each other but are polar opposites actually pulling away from each other e.g the further Jaime heads towards redemption “the path of light” if you wanna say it like that, the further Cersei heads towards darkness and the only way they are equal can be found in the intensity their characters are involving, showing that House Lannister can be a force of evil and a force of good in equal measure or something going into that direction – it’s just a feeling though.
Also several prophecies and dreams are still unexplained and unresolved as far as I know like why is homeboy dreaming of naked Brienne with a sword in her hand – other than the fact that he is utterly and eternally in love with her
Why are literally all of their dreams revolving around each other
And, this is something I think about at least 435 times a day – D&D are fucking illiterate. While Gwendoline Christie does an amazing, incredible, showstopping, Oscar worty portrayal of everybody’s favorite highborn Ser fucking Brienne of Tarth – D&D’s interpretation of Brienne is …. well the thing you would excpect from two white dudes. They completly left out one part of Brienne which makes her so dear to many – the soft side, the femine side of her, the romantic side.  While she is the best fighter in Westeros, that’s not all she is and wants to be. Like tons of better analysts and writers pointed out – People tend to forget that she a) is a HIGHBORN LADY b) had to become a swordswomen to somehow make it in the Patriachy she is living in – which with her being deemed as ugly is even more of hellish nightmare. She didn’t really see another option other than becoming a Knight because everything else would have meant a lifelong endurance of humilation and submission. So at 16 she said, Fuck it, I will FIGHT any man who wants to oppress me for the rest of my life,  AND SO SHE DID. Her other option would have been eternal unhappiness and marriage to a man like four times her age. She became who she is because she had to. Unlike Arya who always hated being Lady however, Brienne is in someways way more similar to Sansa – both of them believe in tales of knights in shining amour that save maidens. Like as far as I can remember Brienne doesn’t hate being a Lady – she hates how she is being treated for it, THAT being said I think D&D failed to portray the overwhelming amount of that Brienne, so I am not very convinced that D&D truly interpreted and wrote things in the final episode the way GRRM would have – I mean look at the script lmao.
Also one way Jaime Lannister could potentially DIE is in a not literal way. Like the Death of Jaime Lannister could also be him becoming Jaime of Tarth? “Dying” in the arms of the woman he loves? – When he sleeps with Brienne for the first time on their wedding night or at least for the first time ( I mean having sex pretty much equals marriage in their world and they are both big softies so….) Or him “dying” by doing something extremly heroic therefore complety parting ways with the arrogant, the “evil” character parts of him (obessed with Cersei etc.) , signaling the completion of his redemption arc – like idk he slays a dragon for the lack of a better example so “Kingslayer” dies but “Dragonslayer” lives on. Like I am 90% sure the Kingslayer part of him is going to die and the Oathkeeper lives on.
Also what happens in Beauty and the Beast? The beast dies – or so we think. What if Jaime pulls a Jon and gets murdered and then revived. Honestly we really don’t know how D&D interpreted what GRRM told them.
To sum up
Yeah, Cersei and Jaime could probably end up dying together again and I would probably never know happiness again.  Anything is still possible and everybody is entitled to their theories until the books come out and prove all of us wrong anyway. I personally don’t think it is going to happen I am just willing to believe that GRRM is a better writer than D&D and that is not very hard. For one, Cersei is not THAT important, Jaime’s redemption arc is unfinished and several prophecies unexplained. Jaime and Brienne’s arcs are connected and killing one or both of them of would be an extreme huge loss of unique and multifaceted characters as well as potential for the overall history, and also I think hard to pull of. I personally wouldn’t worry that much because yes Jaime could get killed off but if GRRM decided to do that it will make sense. The thing that made me so fucking depressed over Jaimes death is first and foremost the way he left Brienne which book!Jaime would  simply not do and even  for show Jaime it was soooo fucking out of character that I refuse to believe D&D even watched the other three episodes of Season 8. Like I just refuse to believe that GRRM would even write something like 8x4. Jaime’s death would make me sad because rarely I think you really need to kill a character to tell a good story but at least I know that book!Jaime is going out with a bang not a brick. Also there are not a lot of signs (if any ??) pointing toward Jaime’s death, most signs and prophecies can be interpreted in tons of different ways. Nothing is certain.
If it were upto me he would die in the Epilogue as an old man in the arms of Brienne surrouned by their kids and grandkids. In peace.
So if I were you I would stay out of the theory rabbithole as much as possible. I didn’t join the Jaime Lannister is Alive Clown Club for nothing. Just snuggle up with some snacks and the fluffiest and/or smuttiest Braime fic and have a good time.
Always remember Jaime and Brienne are chilling in the meadows of Tarth, having told the rest of the realm to kindly fuck off unless they are absolutely certain that it will be necessary to call Jaime “ Oathkeeper” of Tarth and a very pregnant Ser Brienne of Tarth to fight whatever creature from the Seven Hells was unleashed onto Westeros now. The only visitors allowed are the Stark Kids. Somewhere in the background Pod is somehow getting chased by a giant dog that stole his sword. The End.
