okay it's been a month and a half since you asked this, but I do, in fact, have an excellent answer.

Last month when asked this question in a letter from my lovely pen pal (and I'll share much of the text from that letter here) I immediately pictured all of the gang working at Mc Donald's. Maristella Arrington: The Local McDonald's Owner's Daughter is the only modern AU I will accept at the present moment.

Maristella gets promoted to manager, Which bothers Victor, who started at the same time as her and is still styck working the drive thru. Verity and Conroy are highly efficient work besties. Adrian used to work at their McDonald's but he no-call, no-show quit one day. So did his sister. Turns out, his sister got food poisoning after they found out their dad owns the Burger King across the Street.

Maristella ends up at the Burger King once because she's craving the chicken fries, which they do not have at McDonald's, and she finds out her former coworkers are working there now...
