I love seeing all the mushers i follow on social medias post about their specific dogs on their Iditarod teams. Dogs of all ages, dogs that are “old”. I know that pretty much all mushers know that age isn’t necessarily a factor when it comes to a dog’s ability to run and perform well and it’s nice to see dogs doing stuff well past an age that many much too online sport people I know say about their dog’s “limited window” for competitive sport or whatever.
#dogblr#dog sports#its just nice to see sport people being like oh yeah my dog is old but he is healthy and can still go#so why would we leave him he's a great dog#vs like THOSE sport people you know the ones#that are like upset when their dog isn't perfect by 2-3 or whatever#thats BABY#that's not prime time#another thing i love about this sport is that my dogs can do it for a long time there's no 'timeline'#just whenever they are ready to retire be that 8 or 12 you know#or never...re: slash's grandfather#and also theres NO timeline on you the musher#this is not a sport like gymnastics which i grew up doing and competing#where you age out very quickly and there is a lot of stress to be good young#like jeff king is 66 and he's still got it#there's an 80+ year old musher kicking ass with his sibes in finland#there's no limit#the limit does not exist. meangirls.tumblr.jpg.com
