my brother and i have been going on walks a lot lately and have been checking out public buildings if only to see them, and in one it finally happened where someone thought my brother and i were a couple. even though Earlier in the conversation i mentioned ‘our little sibling’ like twice while gesturing to my brother and i both times. this wouldn’t have been so horrible and i could have easily brushed it off as her just not having caught that, if not for the part where after clarifying We’re Siblings she said “well even if you did have kids…” and kinda trailed off and didn’t complete that thought. she was talking to us about our futures/careers bc this was the town hall building so she probably meant it like If We, Individually From Each Other, Have Children but. i didn’t press for clarification but was ready to Leave after that. she was talking for a while still, after saying that. i had a cold soda and it was room temp by the time we finally left

The Siege of Willowside
Day 4 (Part 1)
Lysander and Midori got up in the morning and prepared for the day. On their way back into town, they encountered Zookdar, carrying a bottle of green liquid.
Midori shouted to get his attention. "Zookdar!"
"Where the fuck were you, man?" Lysander added.
Midori continued, "Yeah, we really coulda used you an' your gnome wisdom down there yesterday. You just kinda left. Where'd you go?"
Zookdar shrugged and hefted his bottle. "Lookin' for Mountain Dew."
Midori arched an eyebrow. "Mountain…what?"
"Mountain Dew," Zookdar explained. "It's a new kind of drink."
"Oh," Midori followed along, "like one o' those phosphate sodas that they make at Windy's?" She threw out her palms and shook her head. "Wait, wait, never mind that! You left in the middle of a mission. To go back to town. During a food shortage. And a siege. To get a refreshing beverage?"
Lysander added, "Yeah, what, are they paying you for a product placement?"
Zookdar changed the subject. "Don't worry about it. What did I miss?"
Midori took a deep breath and began to summarize, gesturing wildly in front of herself along with the story. "Okay. Here's the deal. So we were fightin' those zombies. They got out of the force cage, but we defeated them. An' you remember that one cave off to the left when we first went down the stairs? With a foot of water on the floor?"
Zookdar nodded. "Yes. It looked suspicious. I'm pretty sure it was a trap. Wait, you didn't go back there, did you?"
Midori nodded vigorously. "Yeah. We went back. IT WAS A TRAP! The mouths! They came outta the floor! They came outta the ceiling! A STALACTITE ate McBuffington!"
Lysander interrupted, "Wait, wasn't that a stalagmite?"
"No, no," Midori corrected. "Stalactite has a C. For 'ceiling.' Stalagmite has a G. For 'ground.'"
Lysander rubbed his chin. "I thought it was 'stalacTITEs hang tight onto the ceiling and stalagMITEs hold things up from the floor with their might.'"
Zookdar piped up, "Wait, McBuffington's gone?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Midori redirected the conversation. "We were worried that the cave might be a trap, so we sent her in first. BIG. MISTAKE. An', an' then came the mouths. With all the teeth. Grabbin' us. Immobilizin' us. An' we struck back but didn't hurt 'em! But we managed to get out an' run away.
"So then we went to that dead-end alcove an' we found a secret passage."
"SECRET TUNNEL!" Lysander belted out as he strummed his lute.
"An' we went through," Midori continued.
"THROUGH THE SEA CAVES!" Lysander belted out again.
"Yeah," Midori kept on going, "an' we ended up goin' up stairs into a library. With a faint circle of runes on the floor in the center."
"Leading to a SECRET SUMMONING CIRCLE!" Lysander finished.
"Right. 'Course we knew it was for summoning somethin' big an' bad. The books in the library had lotsa information about what I saw in my nightmare. Some big ol' water lizard. An' something else about a mukradi: a giant, three-headed centipede monster that can pull you apart—"
"Pull you apart like bread," Lysander added.
"Yeah, so Lysander here," Midori elbowed the skeleton in the ribs, "was all, 'Let's deactivate this before somebody triggers the trap. I know occultism. Touching the rune won't hurt anything.' So he tries to deactivate a rune. Guess what happened?"
"He triggered the summoning," Zookdar sighed.
"HE TRIGGERED THE SUMMONING!" Midori shouted. "A wild mukradi appeared! It was all like, 'ARRRRARRARRARRAARRR!' an' we're all like 'HOLY SHIT! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!'
"Anyhow, ya know that halfling comic who does those shows with the chase scenes with the yakety saxophone music playin'? Y'know, Benny Underhill? Well, that music started playin' at full volume in my head as the rest of this unfolded. The mukradi starts chasin' Lysander. An' Buffy's with him. He tries to outrun the mukradi, but it can swim! An' Lysander's leadin' the parade through the other rooms, attractin' the attention of all the other monsters who end up followin'. An' he ends up tryin' to ride Buffy to freedom. Buffy collapses, but Lysander keeps runnin'. We all heard this metallic crunch, an' I think that's the last of poor Buffy.
"But we made it outta there an' locked the door to the sea caves an' came back to town for the night."
"Wait, wait, wait," Zookdar held up his hands in front of Midori. "So there's an interdimensional horror down there, hopped up on whatever potions Buffy was carrying inside of herself and thirsty for blood. What's stopping it from coming upstairs, running amok through the town, and pull-apart-breading everyone?"
Midori blinked and pointed a thumb back toward the general store and said, matter-of-factly, "The padlock."
Zookdar slapped his palm into his face.
"Anyhow," Lysander went on, "I think I've made my quota of bad decisions for a good while. Why don't we ask you what we should all do now? What do you say?"
Zookdar pondered things for a moment, then decided, "We're goin' back in! We still need to rescue the Vengaboys and get whatever's down there to defend Willowside."
Midori shrugged. "Sure, why not? All o' those critters have probably…bled to death…or something by now."
"Oh," Lysander put his hands on Midori's and Zookdar's shoulders, "and something important that you all should know that probably should have before we got involved with that mukradi." He moved his clothes to expose a golden rib. "This is what I call my 'good luck boy.' It ties me to the Material Plane. If I fall in battle, somebody can cast raise dead or resurrect or whatever on it and I'll just come back. Remember that if I ever try to get the Big Bad Evil Guy to single me out so you can escape."
Assured of their impending success by the presence of the mighty Zookdar, the three adventurers trekked back to the general store to complete the mission. Without any support whatsoever. Midori danced along, singing "We like to party. We like, we like to party! We like to party. We like, we like to party!"
Midori took the lead down the stairs of the general store into the storeroom, noticing a strange-looking, small, blue-skinned figure wearing a cloak. On hearing Midori's footsteps, he turned around to face her. She noted his draconic face with a magnificent long beard.
Gasping with excitement, Midori ran to the figure as the others filed down the stairs behind her. "Oh my gods, are you a kobold?!?" She bounced up and down, smiling.
"Yes, my child," the figure answered.
"Midori!" Lysander hissed a loud whisper to the kitsune, "You can't just go around asking people if they're kobolds!" He turned to the kobold and spoke normally, "I'm sorry for my friend. Are you one of those little dragon folk?"
Zookdar looked the kobold up and down. "I'm gonna call you 'Rawr Uwu'!"
Slightly confused, the kobold responded, "I go by many names, but you may call me that."
Midori muttered to herself, "Awww, look at the li'l guy with his li'l beard! So adorable!"
A discussion ensued. The kobold had come to the storeroom to check on the two parties who had entered the sea caves but had not been heard from since. He pointed to the footprints on the floor in the back storeroom, which he had unlocked, and noted that one set went down the stairs only, where another set went down, returned, and exited. "It saddens me that the cowardly second party ran like this. It seems that they were too ashamed to even report back to the mayor."
Zookdar interjected, "Yes, uh, I'm new. It's my first time here."
Lysander picked up the thread, "Yeah, we're new here. We're not the party that fucked everything up. Midori just rounded us up and brought us here today. Right, Midori?
Blindsided by the deception as Lysander interrupted her kobold adoration, she could only say, "Uh, uh, I abstain?"
Lysander pointed at Midori. "See? She can't even put a sentence together."
Midori cleared her throat. "I am Midori, the ringmaster of the Circus of Wayward Wonders! Of course, you've heard of us."
The kobold replied, "I have. Yes. I heard that something happened to your tent the other day."
Midori nodded. "Yes, that was an attack of the xulgaths, the same ones who now prepare to lay siege to Willowside. They attacked our tent during a performance and burned it down!"
"Well met, Midori," the kobold continued, "I am known by many things, but The Redeemer seems to fit me. Here is my pet velociraptor." He indicated a dinosaur the size of a large dog that had just emerged from the shadows.
Lysander commented doubtfully, "Hmm. Kind of big for a velociraptor. Looks more like a deinonychus to me."
Zookdar suggested, "Could it be a utahraptor?"
Midori shook her head. "No, those are a lot bigger."
The Redeemer repeated with emphasis, "My. Pet. Velociraptor."
Lysander pulled Midori and Zookdar over into a quick huddle. "Hey, we've been fighting dino riders the whole time we've been in Willowside. You think this raptor is safe?"
Midori nodded. "He's clearly friendly. And kinda cute."
Overhearing the conversation, The Redeemer spoke words of wisdom. "Friends. If your city were besieged by horse riders, would you find your allies untrustworthy if they were to ride horses as well? Judge not the other horses."
"See? Friendly." Midori approached the velociraptor. "May I pet him?" She reached out tentatively.
The Redeemer shook his head. "Not if you value keeping your hand." Midori quickly pulled her hand back. "He may allow that when he is in a friendly mood, but right now he might not be friendly enough for that. Let us go down to the sea caves."
"All right," Midori warned, "but let's keep an eye out for the giant, three-headed centipede."
The Redeemer looked at her quickly. "How do you know what lies in store if you have only just arrived?"
"Uhhh," Midori thought quickly, "Aren't sea caves usually full of those things?"
"Hmmph," The Redeemer scoffed, "We shall find out soon enough. Let us enter the sea caves together."

after the credits
to thirteen years of cas and of the greatest love story ever told...an empty rescue fic for y’all :) 2.3k,  read on ao3 here
--------------
After a while, Castiel gets tired of watching. He’s practically dreaming all the time, but he’s so tired.
Eternal sleep is not restful.
He can’t leave the Empty, but he manages to mold it, with his mind, into a theater. He went to one once, with Dean, and there are probably nicer theaters, like those for plays and operas, but this movie theater is right for him. If he concentrates, he can almost smell burnt, buttery popcorn and spilled soda and old carpet, and Dean right next to him, aftershave and car oil and whiskey.
Almost.
The scenes unfold in a memorable order, because they’re Cas’s own memories. At first, he tried to jump in, alter the scene, but he’s powerless. So, like clockwork, he watches. He’s saving Dean in hell. He’s being stabbed in the chest by the same man he raised. He’s asking Dean to get answers from Alastair and then almost getting the grace pressed out of him. He’s slamming his palm onto a bloody sigil. He’s--
Everything, all of his twelve years on earth, pass by, over and over and over again.
Right now, it’s an early scene, not far into the cycle. It’s not one of his favorites, because he can see the expression on his face, remembers exactly how he felt. Remembers that he he was feeling at all.
“That was a pretty awkward kiss, huh?”
Cas turns sharply at the sound of Dean’s voice. Of course, Dean does talk in this scene, before he kisses Anna. But this Dean is sitting next to him, frowning at the screen.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” Cas says.
“I know.”
Chances are this is just the Empty trying to mess with him. Last week a random trashcan showed up in his theater. Or maybe it was last year, or a millenia ago, or five minutes from now. Time is weird.
They keep watching in silence. On the screen, in the memory, Cas’s head jerks away from the sight of Dean and Anna kissing. The scene flips then, to a park at night, Anna right in front of Cas, no Dean in sight.
“For the first time, I feel...” Memory-Cas says.
“It gets worse,” Anna warns.
“So your first feeling….” Dean starts.
“It was something.” Cas can’t look at him. The scene on-screen changes.
Dean, to his merit, doesn’t press.
The memories progress through the year they spent trying to stop the apocalypse, the year that ended with Sam diving into the pit and Dean going off to Lisa’s. Then through Cas starting to work with Crowley, a conversation that happened right behind Dean without his knowledge.
On-screen, Cas is watching Dean rake leaves. The expression on his face is nearly mournful. After a moment, Crowley steps into view.
“Ah, Castiel. Angel of Thursday. Just not your day, is it?” Crowley says.
“What are you doing here?” Memory-Cas asks.
“I want you to help me help ourselves.”
“Speak plain.”
Crowley smirks. “I want to discuss a simple business transaction. That’s all.”
“You want to make a deal? With me? I’m an Angel, you ass. ”
The scene flips again.
“Is there a way to pause this?” Dean asks.
Cas shakes his head. “It just does this, on a loop. I can’t sleep. The Empty won’t let me.” He puts a hand on the armrest between them. “I forced the theater up, to make it better.”
“It looks a lot like that theater we went to once.”
“I know.” Cas stares at Dean for a moment, looks away.
Many of these scenes are things Dean knows of. Cas works with Crowley, gets locked in a ring of fire, feels his chest seize up as Dean looks back for a moment. Watches the Leviathans lead him to a lake. They meet again on porch steps, Cas unable to remember who he is but still able to figure out that Dean is important. Cas gets his memories back, takes on Sam’s hell trauma. They go to Purgatory, Cas stays behind. It’s like clockwork.
Until.
“I don’t remember that,” Dean says slowly, watching himself die on the screen. “You never--you’ve never killed me.”
“Yes and no.” Cas knows what’s coming next--he’s going to kill Dean thousands of times. Each one is the same, with Cas in tears as these copies, mock-ups of Dean struggle, beg and plead, tell him not to. Each time, Naomi makes him do it again.
Until, finally, he doesn’t hesitate.
And she says he’s ready.
As they watch that scene in the crypt unfold, with the real Dean at Cas’s mercy, Dean leans forward, putting his elbows on his thighs and propping his chin in his hands. “You lied.”
“Hm?”
“You said you didn’t know what broke the connection.” Dean twists his head to look at Cas. “But you did.”
“I did,” Cas assents.
They watch Cas ride cross-country on a bus, pulling out his phone and almost calling Dean over and over again.
“Is there a way that we can see some of my memories?” Dean asks.
“You’re not supposed to be here.”.
Dean shrugs. “Well, I am here, and you figured out how to make a friggin movie theater, so I think I can do it.”
The image on the screen shudders, coalesces, breaks into a million pieces and then reforms. Dean is standing on the edge of a lake, picking up Cas’s coat, still covered in Leviathan goo. “You dumb son of a bitch,” Memory-Dean mutters, wrapping up the coat in his arms.
The scene flickers again--the coat in those same hands, moving from car to car to car, and then being passed to Cas. “I always knew you’d come back ,” Memory-Dean says. It’s a soft scene, almost, but then it flips to Dean seizing a monster’s collar in purgatory. He’s covered in blood and grime as he shoves the monster up against a tree, practically growling, “Where’s the angel?”
Even after the monster answers, Dean guts him.
It’s a cycle. The memory blurs through sleepless nights, through Dean stepping into streams to pray, prayers Cas knows well. It pushes past Cas letting go of Dean’s arm in the portal, and here’s something else new: Dean sees Cas on the side of the road, sees him outside the window while it pours down rain, sitting bolt upright at the phantom sight of Cas’s face.
“Why are you here?” Cas finally asks. This must really be Dean, after all. The Empty wouldn’t know these things, wouldn’t be able to dream them up. They’re too good, too honest.
“To bring you home.” Dean kicks the back of the seat in front of him, leans back in his own chair.
“I can’t go home.”
“You should.” The scene on screen rapidly changes--it’s Dean as he looks now, carrying a little boy on his back. The little boy is blonde, round-faced, holding onto Dean’s neck for dear life, laughing as Dean swings around.
“Is that--” No, it can’t be.
“Yep. He’s four, you know.” Dean clears his throat. “He misses you.”
“I wish I could have gotten to say good-bye.” Cas trails off.
“Come home. Then you never have to say it.”
Cas shakes his head. On the screen, Dean is reading to Jack, Jack following the words with a chubby finger. “It would be...awkward.”
“How?” Dean raises an eyebrow. “We’re family, dude. Jack misses you, Sam misses you, and Eileen’s been hanging around, and me…” Dean clamps his mouth shut.
That’s why.
“Things aren’t going to be the same. Not after…” Cas takes a deep breath. “What I said. We won’t be able to ignore it.”
“Then we won’t.”
“Dean--”
“You don’t know?” Dean’s eyebrows furrow. “You don’t know. Okay. I, uh…” The screen turns black.
“You what?” Cas is almost afraid to know.
“I didn’t want you to see this.”
The blackness unfurls into Billie’s library, Dean standing in front of her. They’re clearly in the middle of a conversation.
“What do you want me to say?” Memory-Dean asks. “Doesn’t matter. I don’t matter. ”
“Don’t you?” Billie replies.
“I couldn’t save Mom. I couldn’t save Cas. I can’t even save a scared little kid. Sam keeps trying to fix it, but I just keep dragging him down. So I’m not going to beg. Okay, if it’s my time, it’s my time.”
“Dean--” Cas starts, but Dean just looks at the floor, like he’s trying to avoid this.
“You really believe that,” Billie says. “You wanna die.”
“When was this?” Cas asks, speaking over the rest of Billie’s statement.
“It was...right before we, uh, got the call from you. That you were back.” Dean leans his head all the way up, looks at what would be the movie theater’s ceiling, if it wasn’t in the void. “I had a bad time. I…I would show it to you. But I don’t want you to see me like that. I held it together enough to wrap your body and burn it…”
“Hunter’s funeral.”
“Only kind I know how to do.” Dean swallows, audibly. “I’m doing what I can now. Having Jack to take care of, and Eileen around, too, helps. But it’s…” He finally looks at Cas again. “Please let me take you home. Please come home with me.”
Cas would do anything for Dean Winchester. He has done anything for him before. So he will grant him this, at least the illusion, because Cas knows he can’t leave the Empty. He’s trapped here for eternity.
He takes Dean’s hand.
-----------------------------------------
There is a little boy crawling on him.
“Daddy,” the boy says, poking his face, “I know you’re awake.”
“Jack,” Dean says, from somewhere up above, “Cas is still sleeping.”
Cas blinks rapidly. “‘M not.”
“Shouldn’t’ve said that.” Dean releases Jack, and Jack fully clambers onto Cas.
“I missed you,” Jack says.
“I missed you too.” Cas holds onto him, tight. He’s so small, like he’s supposed to be. A kid. Safe.
Cas thinks he might be in Dean’s bed.
The bunker, he discovers, looks much the same. He was gone for four months, in which time Dean and Sam took care of Chuck, Jack became a kid, and Eileen became a permanent fixture. When Dean and Sam aren’t looking, she signs to Cas, “He already looks better.”
“Who, Dean?” Cas signs back.
Eileen nods. “He had a pretty bad time.”
Dean turns around then, and Eileen presses a finger to her lips.
There’s not a quiet moment for the rest of the day. Sam explains what happened--”You might be human now,” he says, and Cas replies, “I’m not tired yet.”--and Jack wants Cas to read to him and play Barbies and racecars and puppets (apparently Dean built Jack’s little puppet theater, which--).
After dinner (spaghetti and meatballs, and Dean has a Coke instead of beer, Cas notices), everyone goes off to bed, and Cas realizes he is tired, which is something to think about.
He starts to head to the room he typically stays in, but Dean seizes the top of his arm. “Nope, you’re coming with me.” Dean drags Cas down the hall towards his room.
Cas hadn’t gotten a good luck at it earlier, what with Jack climbing all over him, but he sees it now. Dean’s bed unmade, scraps of random paper littered across the dresser, a picture Cas recognizes because he and Dean are wearing cowboy hats, and now he knows how Dean was really doing right before that case in Dodge City--
There’s also a dent in the wall. That’s new.
Dean follows Cas’s gaze. “I chucked a whiskey bottle at it. Sam took the rest of my stash the next day.” Dean steps over, brushing the drywall’s cracks with his fingers. “I didn’t fix it up so I wouldn’t forget.”
I couldn’t save Cas. I can’t even save a scared little kid. Sam keeps trying to fix it, but I just keep dragging him down. So I’m not going to beg. Okay, if it’s my time, it’s my time.
“Dean,” Cas says, “Tell me in words.”
“What?” Dean turns away from the wall. “Tell you what?”
“You know.”
Dean swallows, licks his lips. “I’d say don’t ever do that again on the whole dying thing, but I said that to you once and you didn’t listen. And maybe if I say it the right way now, you’ll stay, but…” Dean slumps, sits on the bed. “You can’t leave again.”
Cas touches the wall himself before sitting next to Dean on the bed. “I’m not going to.” He isn’t sure if he’s allowed to touch Dean.
Dean touches him instead, leaning into Cas, finding one of Cas’s hands, holding it tight. He’s crying, Cas realizes. “I love you,” Dean says into their joined hands, then his chest wracks with a sob. “I was always so sure that if--” another sob, “If I said it, you’d leave. Get taken away from me.”
“I’m not going to leave,” Cas repeats.
He isn’t sure how long they sit like that, but Dean finally straightens up, lets go of Cas’s hand, wipes his eyes with the back of his own. “Pajamas,” Dean says, standing and crossing to the dresser. “We gotta get you some of your own, but…” He digs a pair of sweats out of the drawer and tosses them to Cas. “These’ll do for tonight.”
Cas doesn’t ask if he can stay. Dean doesn’t ask him to leave.
With the lights out, it’s pitch black, almost as inky as the Empty, but Cas can hear Dean breathing, so close to him. The bed is almost too small for both of them, so they’re nearly chest-to-chest. Hardly ever have they been this close. Never did Cas dare to dream it.
In the dark, under the covers, the world outside of this room, Dean kisses him. It’s flat, soft, a brush of lips, the barest ghost, but it’s enough. More than enough.
Cas is home.

part 2
Tumblr media
They always say life just blows right past you. Which you used to think was a load of bullshit, but now on your last year of college you’re sitting in the library on the verge of tears over your physics class, reminiscing on a time long ago when freshman year you was most likely at some frat party grinding up on some beefy blond named Steve.
You let out a loud sigh, looking around to make sure you weren’t disrupting anyone. You weren’t. The library was almost completely empty, besides just you there was a small group of people actively note taking with highlighters scattered around the table and the biggest cups of what you assumed to be coffee. Looking over to your left you saw an oddly familiar mop of curly brown hair nose deep in a thick book. Wait it was Spencer.
He was the TA for your physics class, always enthusiastic and ready to help anyone. You honestly thought he was just happy anyone was willing to listen to his rambles. From what you’ve seen he was humble for being such a genius and seemed like a really sweet guy. Always flashing you a kind smile and opening doors for anyone around him.
Which is why you felt a sense of relief wash over you when you saw him. You had been struggling with this unit in class and no method of studying had been helping you retain knowledge. So what better way to get help than from the resident genius himself.
You packed your stuff and made your way over to the table he set camp at. Loads of novels you couldn’t imagine yourself reading sat in stacks next to him. You tapped him on the shoulder to which he flinched after being taken out of the fantasy world he was immersed in. Looking up he offered you the same kind smile as always before whispering, “Oh hi y/n.”
“Hey Spencer” you smiled back.
He moved a stack of books off of the chair next to his offering you a place to sit. You set your stuff down and his eyes went to the physics book in front of you.
“How's the studying going?” he asked, putting his full attention on you. One thing about him you always admired was the way he really listened to people. No matter who it was he always made people feel heard.
“Not so good” he frowned at the sad tone in your voice, “But I was hoping that a certain TA would be able to spare a fellow peer some help” you looked at him with pleading eyes.
“Of course, what do you need?”
You guys had spent the better part of two hours with him helping you set up notes and explaining certain topics to the best of his ability. You noticed him yawn and check his watch. “What time is it,” you asked, trying to suppress a yawn of your own.
“Just hit 11, the library closes in 30 minutes if you wanna stay and finish up,” he said, stretching his back out from sitting for so long.
“No, I think we’ve done enough work for today.” You both started to pack your stuff up, making small talk as you walked out of the building.
“Hey Spence,” he stopped walking and turned to look at you, “I really wanna thank you for all your help today. Is there any way I can repay you for this? OH! I can take you to dinner, we can go to the little pizza place around the corner. It's on me,” you offered nodding with a wide smile.
He smiled back at your enthusiasm, “You really don’t have to thank me, I'm glad I was able to help. But I won’t say no to a slice of pizza.”
You led him to the little spot off campus, which he of course opened the door for you. The waiter took you to a little booth where you both ordered a soda before skimming the menu. The place was cute, very homey with warm lights and oldies playing softly in the back. There was a comfortable silence before the waiter came back and took your orders.
Spencer was very easy to talk to as he had knowledge on all topics. However you wanted to know more about him personally. So you suggested a game. Never have I ever. Yes it was childish but hey, all good friendships have to start somewhere.
“Ok I’ll start with an example and you put a finger down if you’ve done it.” he nodded taking a bite of his pizza. You took a second to think of where to begin, “Alright never have I ever gone skinny dipping,” you stated and his eyes widened a little bit.
He shook his head no as you encouraged him to ask a question. “Um never have I ever failed a class.”
“Spence no,” he frowned. “This is supposed to be fun, ask risky questions c’mon don’t be shy,” you looked at him encouragingly, “what happens at the booth stays in the booth,” you said tapping on the table for emphasis.
He took your words to heart as he waited a while trying to come up with a question. “Alright, never have I ever had more than 4 partners.” you put a finger down and looked at him confused. “How many people have you dated?” he took a sip of his coke before replying, “just one.”
“Huh,” “What?”
“C’mon Spence you’re telling me a genius like you doesn’t have girls lined up around the corner” you said raising a suggestive eyebrow. He giggled and shook his head no looking down.
_
The game continued but keeping track of fingers was forgotten. Pizza was long gone and the bill was paid, now it was just you guys enjoying each others company.  It was obvious Spencer was breaking out of his comfort zone as the questions kept on getting riskier. Which is how you got into the topic of sex. You had found out that apparently he had almost no experience in any of it.
“Y/n I just don’t see what the big deal is. I mean I do ya know.. get off, so what's the point,” he said playing with his napkin. You could tell he was a little embarrassed at the admission by the tinge of pink on his cheeks.
“The point is that sex is normal and fun and something you should be experiencing.”
“I don’t know. I just don’t wanna have one night with a stranger then be laughed at for being inexperienced.”
Suddenly a lightbulb appeared above your head.
“Spencer I have an idea. And please just hear me out,” he looked at you wearily before you continued, “let me tutor you in sex stuff.”
You swear he was gonna explode at how red he was, mouth gaping like a fish out of water trying to find words to respond.
“Listen, you spent the night helping me with something I struggle in. Let me help you with something you’re struggling in. And it could be fun, ya know just some stress relief and you get to learn some new skills.”
Spencer was taken back by your offer. He really wanted to accept, I mean come on it's not everyday a pretty girl just offers you to have sex with her. Let alone buy you pizza beforehand.
You might have looked collected on the outside, sipping on your dr.pepper, giving Spencer time to answer but on the inside you were a mess. What if you had pushed him too far. Why did you think it was a good idea to just offer up something like that. Your thoughts were cut off by a voice in front of you speaking up.
“Yeah.. Let's do it.” Now you were the one gaping like s fish. But you quickly recomposed yourself.
You looked at him with a devilish smile, reaching over the table to grab his hand. “Well then Spence, let’s go shall we?” He laced your fingers together as you got up, matching your smile.
_
In no time you were in your dorm after the brisk walk. Little conversation was made and you were starting to think maybe he was starting to regret agreeing. Unlocking the door you looked over at him nervously biting his pink lip, something you’d like to do. “You can just come in and we can watch a movie if you want. I don’t wanna pressure you into anything.”
He looked over at you, big brown eyes gazing softly into yours, “I really wanna do this. Please.”
“Alright pretty boy make yourself comfortable we’ll start off easy.”
You guided him to sit on your couch as you sat next to him. There was a moment of silence where you both just looked from each other's eyes to lips longingly. Neither were sure who leaned in first but your lips met in the middle, calm at first before the storm. His hands went to grasp the sides of your face, pulling you further into him. You took the time to adjust and settle on his lap, one hand on his shoulder while the other nested in his hair, causing him to let a groan in your mouth when you tugged it slightly. You’d save that for another time.
The time came for you both to pull away for air. His forehead resting on yours as you caught your breath.
“As great as that was,” you said punctuating with a kiss. He tried to chase your lips as you pulled away to continue talking. “You can move your hands, I won’t break. Nowhere is out of bounds,” you said nodding encouragingly.
His hands were warm, moving down slowly to your hips. You leaned back in, this time the kisses were slower but held the same desire. Again his hands stayed in the same place so you put yours over his and guided them up and down. He gained some confidence after you let go, his hands now straying to your ass giving it a squeeze. You could feel the smile on his lips at the gasp you let out.
Making out soon led to desperate whimpers and a steady grind of trying to gain more friction. The feel of him hardening beneath you made you moan as the thin fabric of the leggings you were wearing did little to nothing to conceal it. You pulled away to start pressing wet kisses to his neck. You knew you had found his sweet spot under his ear when he shuddered. Your hand went down to palm him over his pants. Spencer jolted at the touch.
“Fuck y/n,” he let out as a soft sigh. You took the opportunity to unzip his pants. Looking into his auburn eyes for confirmation to keep going he gave a silent nod, prompting you to take him out of his pants. It was pretty and pink, already weeping with precum you couldn’t wait to get your mouth on. Wasting no time you used your thumb to swipe some off to use as lubricant to start pumping his shaft.
You went down to a spot between his knees, taking his hand in yours to set in your hair. He seemed to catch on quick as he pushed some out of your face to see your pretty eyes looking up at him while you sucked him off.  Under his soft exterior, shockingly Spencer swore like a sailor. Letting out constant “shit you’re so good” or a long “fuck” under his breath.
You could tell he was getting close by the way you felt his cock throbbing. You stopped sucking, instead using your hand to keep stimulating him as you said, “It’s alright Spence you’re doing so good for me. Where do you wanna cum?” His eyes shifting down to your low cut v-neck said it all. You motioned for him to replace your hand with his own, quickly discarding the shirt leaving you in a pretty lacy bra. He was confused as to what you were doing when you started to pull off your leggings, but as your hand slipped down into your matching panties things started clicking.
You were already worked up from the heavy touching and listening to his groans that it was easy for you to slip a finger into your wet heat, letting out a moan at the feeling. His eyes kept on roaming all over your body. The sight of your chest heaving and the glistening between your thighs was enough to set him off.
You added another finger and matched the pace he was pumping himself at. Not taking your eyes off his hands, so big and veiny.
“Ah Spencer, I'm so close baby. Please cum with me,” you let out along with little whimpers. Hearing his name on your lips was his end as his orgasm washed over him. Ropes of his cum spilling over his palm. Your release came soon after, rubbing your clit, gasping at the tightness in your tummy bursting.
You both calmed down and met each other's gaze with a soft smile. Picking up your t-shirt you told him to stay put as you went to grab a towel for him to clean up. “So, not bad for our first ‘lesson’, you said walking back and sitting next to him.
His cheeks were tinted pink from seeing how exposed you were in front of him but he had the courage to respond, “Not bad at all. I can’t wait for what else you can show me.”

Two faces of the same coin
Pairing: Tenma x ghost-looking! reader. Part 2
Part 1
Here we go! Enjoy! 💕
.
You were used to people reacting a certain way when seeing you since you were young.
Be it your pale skin, eyebags or voice, you ended up not taking it too personally as you grew up. After all it was a general statement you didn't have the best sleeping pattern, and that your hair and posture needed to be worked on. Still, you enjoy peaceful time alone -no glances or scared whispers- although you had to admit this boy had broken a record.
"Dammit...!"
After even frightening you from the intense shriek that came out of his throat, in a poor attempt to run away from you he had stumbled and crashed into a chair so hard you were now wincing as he fell to the harsh floor.
Ouch. Concerned, you approached the groaning teen in pain. “Are you-?” Tenma didn't let you even finish. Violently shaking he turned his back on you, curling into a ball.
“This is not real, this is not real, this is not...!"
He kept mentioning words like curse and death in between, and you could only stare back trying to process what was happening. "Sorry If I scared you. I was-”
“I won't say anything!" he kept on pleading, refusing to open his eyes "I really-REALLY don't taste good please just let me leave!!"
It wasn’t working. You decided to get up from the floor, which only made Tenma pale even more at the sound of something moving.
“I won’t, uh- do anything.” you hesitated. “You, uh, hurt your head right?”
The loud and repetitive pleads died slowly on his lips, and as he opened one eye to glance your way he might have as well. Pale face, somber looks… you both stood in silence in the empty room for a while, you waiting patiently.
"...what?"
He seemed to find again his voice, or at least enough for you to hear. You brushed the dust off you as he flinched at the sudden movement, still on guard.
"I'm, uh- I'm not a ghost." You took out your student card, your name and student photo -equally terrifying some would say. "See?"
An uncomfortable silence filled the air.
Tenma stares at you for a long moment. One could practically see the wheels turning in his head, trying to keep up. And then, just as quickly as he had paled, the color red made way to his face.
“…ah?”
Right. Great answer.
You tilted your head while putting the student card back in your pocket. Maybe he hit his head harder than it looked? “So... what are you doing here? Not that you can't, I guess. I also like it here even though we are not supposed to but- you know. You surprised me a bit too."
Tenma's eyebrows knitted together as he slowly stood up from the floor, not understanding what you were saying. The adrenaline rush was leaving him and could feel himself starting to calm down a little, finally letting his guards down.
“What do you mean. I-Isn’t a library a normal place to work?”
“Yeah. This is the old building though. The new one is on the opposite side..."
You waited patiently watching how Tenma breathed in once again, crimson becoming more and more intense as seconds passed. You had never seen anyone behave like that and he hoped the ground could swallow him about right now. “I... I knew that! I knew that I was just looking around because uh- I’ve never seen this place before!”
“It is rusty.”
More awkward silence from you both. Tenma looked at you and at his pile of books. You looked at them too in reflex, not understanding why a student could have so much book carrying around. "Sumeragi... Tenma?"
"Don't look!" said leader troupe was quick to hide his name, though he was well aware it didn't matter at this point. He tried to avoid your gaze. Shit. Shit, shit, shit last thing he needed today. "Just- don't tell anyone. I'm serious!"
Without sparing another second glance at you and still feeling his face burning, he took everything and left.
His forehead hurt.
One week later
“Why do we have to do this every time?”
“Come on! Don’t tell me you’re afraid to lose?"
“I am not afraid to lose." Tenma frowned at the other two members of mankai. The three were sitting under the shade of a tree in the courtyard, something they took as a routine whenever they didn’t use the cafeteria. Background laughs and conversations could be heard from students around the patio, enjoying their free time before the bell rang and called them back again to their respective classes. He huffed. "This is stupid."
"Got it!" Taichi moved around his arm dramatically "Ready…? Rock, paper, scissors!”
Three hands presented their results with different reactions altogether.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Aw yeah, paper is the best! It's your turn to go buy drinks Ten-chan!”
“I wanna strawberry juice.”
“Soda for me!”
“Tsk,” Tenma squinted his eyes at his hand and sighed, getting up and dusting away grass from his uniform, taking their coins. “Fine. Strawberry juice and a Green tea.”
“H-hold on, I said soda!”
“I’ll get going.”
“Yeah.”
“Ten-chan I was joking please!!”
It had been a few days after the library incident and so far, he hadn't heard any weird rumor of him- to which he counted it as a big safe considering the situation. Weird, but safe.
“Oh come on.”
After buying Taichi’s and Juza’s drinks, Tenma kept shoving his hand into his pockets, cursing at his emptiness. He was sure he had brought his wallet with him to school… maybe he left it in his room after all? A sigh left his lips, wondering how long would his bad luck last.
Until his exams passed maybe? He hoped not. He had managed to get Tsumugi to teach him at night after a few days of begging his homeroom teacher, revising together all concepts that Tenma couldn't seem to grasp. It had been embarrassing to let him check all his late school results, but at the end of the day it was Tsumugi. And well, Tsumugi was fine. Unlike Itaru, he was always-
“Excuse me.”
Tenma covered his mouth at the close sound of the eerie voice. A shiver definitely running from the last strands of hair until his very own toenails.
Yeah, finding you blinking at him- too close for his taste- took all the strength he had to not scream in public. He stepped back from you. his heart practically on his throat. “W-what are you doing!?”
“Ah, sorry. Thought talking louder would be better. Didn't mean to scare you”
“UH?! I-I wasn’t scared! I-uh, I was just surprised!" Even in plain daylight of the hall in comparison to the sinister darkness of the old library room, Tenma still felt like he was talking to a- Well.
A ghost.
You took a step back away from him too, pointing your forehead “You don't have a bump anymore.”
He touched his own forehead unconsciously. Right, Igawa had made a fuss about it when he saw it. Thanks to Omi’s ointment though it was already almost not existent though. He always worried too much.
“I’m glad.”
"Uh, thanks."
Very much opposite to your physical appearance, your voice while husky and kinda odd, was calm. It made Tenma feel weird, though it was probably because you kept staring at him. Why didn’t you go away?
“Are you... a fan? Do you want like, an autograph or something?”
You pointed behind him. "I was just waiting for my turn.”
His cheeks grew warm self-consciously, moving so you could insert your coins.
“I’m guessing you couldn't find more coins for three drinks,” You suddenly commented looking at the drinks in his hands. Ignoring his confused face, you crouched down and picked the drink, turning to him. "You complained kinda loud so... here. Not sure if you'll like it but I think it's good."
"What? I don't need it."
“It’s fine. Take it as an apology." you shrugged offhandedly. You placed it on top of his other drinks and turned once again to the machine. "It was my fault I scared you anyway.”
Tenma stared at your hunched figure while you got another drink. "Then," you waved your hand slightly and left the place quietly to who knows where.
He didn't even manage to wave back. What had just happened?
“Oh man...”
“Tenma-kun, are you okay?”
Students' whispers made him come back to his senses, losing sight of the path you had walked out. “What?”
“Did that person say anything weird to you? You know, like threaten you or something.” they pointed to where you left
“Uh- no.”
Some sighed relieved while others stared at the machine, as if you might have cursed- somehow.
Tenma frowned. It was true it hadn't been the smoothest conversation, but saying you might have tried to do something to him felt wrong. "Why do you all say that?"
"Ah? Mmm well..."
"Just look at them I guess."
"Yeah I don't know man. Gives me the creeps whenever they walk around. As if our school wasn't already scary inducing."
"Whoah, that's so mean."
"Are you saying you don't think it's true?"
"Tenma-kun, if you have time want to come have lunch with us? We..."
As they kept talking, Tenma looked down, the drink you had bought in his hand; Chocolate milkshake.
"It was my fault I scared you anyway.”
Later on
“Stupid old library...” he found himself growling for the umpteenth time "Should have just leave it be."
Another week had passed before he found the courage and once again, adventured himself around the old halls, carrying one chocolate drink.
I must have gone crazy.
Tenma just didn’t wanna be in debt with anyone. Yeah, that was it. Even if you scared the soul out of him, he had somewhat gotten the sense that you weren’t all bad -although your memories still left him trembling- and if there was something he hated more than anything, it was people making assumptions of others. He learned it from Mankai. Especially from his own troupe.
“Are you lost again?”
However old habits are hard to break.
“Dammit! Do you always need to talk like that?!"
"It's my voice, can't help it." You two had found each other at the corner of the hall. Tenma wasn't sure if this counted as good or bad. "…Do you need help to find the new library? I can draw you a map if you want me to”
“I-I was just about to do it, I don’t need-!”
“Ah- you should be careful not to crash on a chair again. Some are really old“
He placed the two drinks on the table making you blink, not sure how to react.
The awkward silence stretched, and Tenma felt his own cheeks heat up. "D-don't misunderstand, I just don't like to be indebted and I really didn't need that drink last time okay?"
A few seconds pass by. And then. Then he hears your laugh.
“You’re a really nice guy you know.”
His stomach jumps and doesn’t say anything for a while. Embarrassing. He felt his face was going to light on fire. He tried to focus his attention on something else- Not that he enjoyed it. The place itself wasn't comfortable looking.
“...Why do you hide here anyway? It doesn’t help with, well,” he didn't finish the sentence, feeling it sounded wrong -even though it was kinda true.
“I wouldn't say I hide" You hummed mindlessly while opening the drink, giving it a go before turning your attention back to him "I found it a few months ago while looking for a place to study. People overreact when they see me, so I’ve been coming here. I think it’s a pretty chill place myself.”
Tenma stared at you. At your dark eye bags and messy hair. You could definitely get a role in any horror movie you might want for sure. Yet there you were, happily drinking a chocolate milkshake in the old side of your very own high school.
“...You are weird.”
You laughed again. “For someone who’s supposed to be scared but still frequents the same place, I’d say the same about you.”

MAJOR TIME AND EPISODE JUMP IN THE NINJAGO PG-13 TOUCH-UP UA!
We're jumping ahead to season 2 because I'm impatient and want to fix Misako; I WLL NOT HAVE THIS WOMAN BE CALLED A BAD MOTHER IN THIS UA!!!!
We're mixing episodes because we're starting with Lloyd watching school kids playing kick ball before he continues training with the ninja, which he is getting better at. When he's done, he leaves to go back to watching the kids play.
The ninja all get the jist that Lloyd's not himself. At all. He's more withdrawn after training and lessons, he's spacey, and he's just not all together.
Zane opts to talk to him, but Jay beats him to it, ruffling Lloyd's hair and telling him he's getting stronger by the day.
Lloyd thanks him and goes back to watching the students, particularly one that is getting picked up by his dad.
Now it's Kai's turn to ask what's going on. Lloyd repeats it's nothing, and leaves, though he gives one last glance at the father and son as they're approached by a woman, the man's wife and boy's mother; it is one of the worst reminders of who he is and what the dynamic of his family is.
The ninja debate on this, Zane seeing the family and understanding that want of Lloyd's, having personal experience with the whole "outliving his family" thing, but he's not going to go and talk to him about it because they've already bugged him enough.
Cue the serpentine and Garmadon being spotted at the museum and reviving the grundle, which I'm renaming the Valciraptor because this is PG-13 Ninjago now.
Garmadon wills it to life with the mega weapon, which is the 4 golden weapons mixed with the 4 silver fang blades, but only has it target Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane, shreds and scraps of their clothes, gloves, and armor to lock the Valciraptor on them and not on Lloyd, which Skales is starting think is tedious.
The ninja still 'stop' the resurrection of the Valciraptor, ensuing in a small little fight against Garmadon before he flees, and the serpentine generals leaving with the golden sarcophagus.
The ninja all give chase, but Zane, for once, is the fastest, stopping them just as they try attempting to get underground through a manhole.
He sighs at not stopping them, but secretly pats himself on the back for catching them before they could damage the artifact.
"Zane? Zane! Wait up!"
Zane has a moment of, 'wait a second,' before turning to the rest of the ninja, who are half his size, stumbling in their oversized clothes, and talking in higher, more youthful voices.
While they freak out over being kids, Zane can only suffer from a sudden existential crisis because he was now the oldest and must look after them.
Zane spots a cop car speeding toward them and, with a fantastic idea, races back around the corner they all just came from as the car stops infront of Kai, Cole, and Jay, Jay shouting they're the ninja when the cops ask, "What are you kids doing out, stealing from the museum?"
Cue Zane sprinting back around the corner, purposely misnaming each of the younger ninja as he embraces them all, saying he's been worried sick and thanking the officers for finding them; the three rascals wandered off again.
"Wait, these are YOUR children?"
"Yes. Hayden-" Zane gestures to Jay. "-has quite the habit of wandering off. And Nyle and Juniper-" Gestures to Kai and Cole. "-are good enough to keep their eyes on him."
"Why didn't you stop them first?"
"With all due respect, have you ever tried leaving a conversation with a more well off parent about our children wearimg the same costume, Officers?"
The cops nod at each other begrudgingly before the officer that has been silent speaks up, "Well, we suspect they stole the golden sarcophagus from the history museum about a block away."
"My children are 9 and 7 years old. How could they even LIFT such a heavy piece of gold? If you still do not believe me, check the security cameras."
They do. And it is shown that the children are innocent; the camera they watch from shows black and white footage and hides the foot chase between the ninja and serpentine. What it does not hide is the Valciraptor bones growing ligaments, muscles, veins, and skin, shaking where it stands, and then stomps away.
The cops excuse the family, saying it's a new animatronic they're working on, to ease a frightened Jay and Kai.
The team leaves, Cole on Zane's back for a change, and Jay panics, asking what they need to do. Kai isn't as freaked out, saying they're safe as long as there's light.
Cole tells them to calm down and focus befor asking Zane if he has any more ideas.
Cut to Lloyd taking a break from training and reading a comic book and overhearing Wu and Nya as they worry about where the ninja are. Before they can elaborate more, the phone rings, which Nya answers.
"Hello? Nya? It's Zane."
"Zane? Where are Cole, Jay, and Kai?"
Zane, dressed in normal clothes from a bag he keeps in a hidden pocket of his gi, looks over at Jay, Kai, and Cole as they all watch him, Jay staring off as he sits, Cole leaning against the wall, and Kai pacing back and forth. "Well... We are in the city, but we have a small problem."
"What's happened? Tell us everything," Wu replies
Cut back to Nya, Wu, and Lloyd, where we hear Zane through the phone.
"Garmadon brough back a Valciraptor, a beast that supposedly feasts on humans. He has made sure it targets us the most, but we will need to stop it before it preys on anyone else in the city."
"Why can't you just stop it?" Lloyd asks; Nya put Zane on speaker.
Cut back to Zane, who winces and kneels down, holding his phone out for Kai to talk into, though he does say as a joke, "Remember, son, speak nicely to others."
"You'd better be glad I'm a kid right now, Zane!" Kai snaps as he takes Zane's phone. "Sensei? Nya? Lloyd!?"
Cut back to The Bounty, where Nya and Wu are flabbergasted and Lloyd fights back a smile and laugh.
"Is... Is that you, Kai?" Nya asks.
"Yeah, and- HEY!"
"NYA, SENSEI, GARMADON BROUGHT BACK A VAL-CAR-SOMETHING, WE ALMOST GOT ARREDTED, I DON'T WANT ZANE TO BE MY DAD, WE LOST THE THING GARMADON BROUGHT BACK, AND I NEED SOMETHING WITH CAFFEINE IN IT! I'M LOSING MY MIIIIIIIND!" Jay shouts at the top of his lungs before Zane takes his phone back and picks up a now emotionally melting down Jay.
"We've had a long night," Zane sums up as he stands. "What do you advise we do, Sensei?"
"Do you know anything about this Valciraptor?"
"Yes. It is nocturnal. And it seems to be vulnerable to light."
Wu is quiet for a second before replying, "Stay in the light, then, and find out as much as you can." He turns to Nya and Lloyd. "Nya, Lloyd, ensure you join them the minute you find them."
They agree, though Lloyd giggles out a quip about the ninja needing protection, which gets an, "I heard that," out of Kai, a desperate cry for an energy drink from Jay, and an agreement and "Be careful," from Zane, and the call ends.
The group of Wu, Nya, and Lloyd set out, Wu going to the tea lady for something he KNOWS will help and Nya and Lloyd looking for the ninja.
Cut to a gag of Zane hanging up, Cole sighing at how the call went, Kai groaning, and Jay whimpering that he just hopes they bring a soda.
Cut/Time jump to Lloyd and Nya walking around the city as they try to find the ninja. They're quietly observing, until Nya talks about the comic Lloyd was reading, noting how he used to read it a lot before, but recently he hasn't, which is strange because she thought he loved the series.
He tells her that he does, but lately all he can think about is Garmadon and facing him in battle. The training doesn't help and, thinking back on before he became the Green Ninja or even found the serpentine, all he'd ever wanted was to be a normal kid with a normal family. Granted he's more than happy to be with Wu, Nya, and the ninja, but he sees other kids with their parents and he can't help but feel jealous. He doesn't say this word for word, but Nya gets the point.
They find the ninja at a library, Zane and Cole being the only ones actually doing research on the Valciraptor while Kai comforts Jay, who just got done crying.
Thankfully, Nya saves the day with a sports energy drink and Lloyd winks as he shows the back pack he has contains weapons for the ninja, which had been dropped during their freak out.
Nya calls Wu and tells him she and Lloyd found the ninja, but Zane informs them that he can't exactly find anything on the Valciraptor, save for the most basic knowledge, so they're at a loss for information.
That is until Lloyd notices a teen reading the same comic book series he has been, and tells Wu to meet them at the comic book store Doomsday Comics when he finds the tea they need.
Cole tells him to focus and Lloyd replies that he is, and knows someone who can help them.
The call ends as Wu arrives at the tea shop went to th o get the Traveler's tea, the owner jabbing that she hopes he's not going anywhere anytime soon because she's out of stock. He tells her he needs Tomorrow Tea, which she does to look for. Wu looks out the window and silently prays for the ninjas' safety as dusk approaches.
With the ninja and Nya, they arrive at the comic store, where they meet the owner Professor Doomsday, which is what Lloyd calls him, as he was the only teacher at Darkley's that was actually nice to him.
The professor is impressed by how healthy Lloyd looks now, compared to his school days, but Lloyd talks business, asking about the Valciraptor, and if what he taught about it was true.
Turns out this beast was loosely related to dragins and used to be a thorough replacement for assassins and was used more for fighting rebellions by tyrant leaders. It didn't hunt only ninja, it feasted on anything it could get its claws on, especially after consuming its target.
Zane isn't exactly listening, because it's completely night out now and the street lights are dim as hell.
Cole notices Zane slip out of the shop, but is stopped by a girl, who tells him her friend thinks he's cute.
Outside, Zane spinjitsu changes into his gi just as the Valciraptor stomps around the corner and growls at him. He glanes at the other ninja, Lloyd, and Nya still inside the shop, and then unsheathes his shurikens. "Let's dance, you poor excuse of a dragon."
He races forward and leaps to the Valciraptor, which snarls at him at comes close to biting him in half. Zane kicks off it's muzzle and lands on a street light, tapping it to try to get the light back on.
It only makes the beast angrier.
In the store, Doomsday notes that it's strange how Lloyd's friends want to learn about such a dangerous and mature subject concerning the Valciraptor, and Jay asks, "What if we were to say that it was brought back?"
Cue Zane being thrown through the window and the Valciraptor chasing after him; the comic book shop is pretty big, about the size of a Barnes and Noble shop.
Cole asks if he's okay, but Zane goes right back to fighting off the beast, which doesn't work because it bites his leg and slams him down twice before throwing him against the wall.
The other ninja change, not as well as they'd like to, Lloyd included, and Nya leads everyone out of the shop and into the street.
The fight gets serious as the ninja can barely ude their spinjitsu and Zane is knocked unconscious and almost becomes a popsicle before Cole pulls on its leg and it kicks him away. Jay and Lloyd are up to the plate as Jay tries something he hopes works, disassembling the lights in a didplay to make a replica light sword toy a become to scare the Valciraptor as Lloyd makes and energy ball and Kai attacks it with scissors.
It knocks away all three of them, making Jay lose the super bright light sword. The Valciraptor sniffs at Lloyd before turning to the ninja.
Good thing Wu arrives with the Tomorrow Tea and Nya, in a panic, throws it to the ninja, which Lloyd catches, until it falls out of his hands and into Zane's. Just as he opens it, Kai stops him, realizing that it will also age Lloyd up along with the ninja and Valciraptor. Lloyd shouts to use it anyway, but every ninja objects, Kai, Jay, and Cole wanting him to still have his childhood and not miss out on it and Zane begging him to not throw his life away, and that such acts are too unfair, even for a boy of Lloyd's upbringing.
The Valciraptor, pissed beyond all reason, tears the sword out of Kai's hands and goes gor a snap. Lloyd, acting in the heat if the moment, snatches the tea and shouts, "Nothing in my life was ever fair! What's the difference NOW!?" as he throws it right into the Valciraptor's jaw as it shuts, shattering the tea instantly and making it wither, age, and dissolve right then and there.
It also restores Kai, Jay, and Cole, Cole checking on Zane, who's okay, even though he's a little concussed.
In the sudden silence and ash, Wu asks almost silently, "What about Lloyd?"
They dig through the ash, and Jay gasps at finding him.
Lying unconscious is Lloyd, who has aged up to either 16 or 17. He has grown taller and thinner, lean like Zane, his hair is very long, and is now at a point to where his gi now fits.
The "episode" ends with Cole carrying Lloyd as the team goes back to the Bounty, Doomsday asking Wu to promise he'll take care of Lloyd, as he couldn't back at Darkley's. Wu promises and the episode closes as they leave.
The next episode starts from Lloyd's perspective as he wakes up, greeted by the ninja, Nya, and Wu. He's still sore from the instant growth and winces as he sits up and examines his hands, especially noticing that his feet touch the ground. He asks what happened, but stops and puts a hand on his throat, surprises by the new pitch he now has.
Despite everyine telling him to take it easy, Lloyd gets up and walks very stiffly to the bathroom mirror, where he sees himself and the result of throwing the tomorrow tea at the Valciraptor.
He's literally speechless, examining his face, hair, and body as he realizes what he's done in order to save his friends.
That doesn't stop Kai from saying as gently as he can that they tried to warn him. Lloyd asks very sharply if they would rather have him sit back and watch them die, and Kai barks that he, actually, shouldn't have been in the shop when the Valciraptor yeeted Zane through the window, that he should have followed Nya.
There's more arguing and Lloyd tries to do a stand off, but his legs give out from under him and send him to the ground.
Pins and needles race through his limbs as Zane and Cole help him stand up, Wu elaborating that Lloyd needs time to adjust to his new body, and maybe his mind too because he aged from 7 to 16 in the span of a couple minutes and now has to get used to the teenage hormones that are no doubt going crazy.
"But what about the serpentine and my dad?" Lloyd asks as Zane keeps one of his arms over his shoulder. Cole affirms that he's not fighting or leaving the Bounty until he gets better. Kai mutters that he also needs a haircut, tugging his hair for more emphasis.
Wu assigns Zane as the caretaker for Lloyd and assigns Nya to join the ninja, as they've spotted a small group of serpentine in the outskirts of the city. Kai and Jay object, but Wu tells them that Nya needs the training and Zane is more experienced in taking care of someone medically, which will help Wu exponentially.
Nya gets an old, plain black ninja gi and her own weapons before heading out with the team, leaving a very sulky Lloyd with Zane and Wu, the former helping him to the shower.
He holds onto Lloyd's hands and walks backwards, practically leading an wobbly legged teenage Lloyd to the shower. The last few steps, though, he lets go, which leads Lloyd to catch himself on the door frame before he falls.
"What was that for!?"
"I didn't mean to be cruel, nor do I intend to be. If you wish to find your father in a hurry, then this is the fastest way I can think to help you adjust."
Lloyd nods and takes his shower, struggling to stand every now and then, but getting stable on his feet. Zane's waiting for him, when he's done, with a pair of scissors. With a look at how long his hair is, Lloyd shrugs in slight defeat, "Make me bald."
Zane snickers and gets to work, having SOME experience from helping Nya and the other ninja.
With the ninja and Nya, they're successful in catching two of the five snakes, these two being a Fangpire and Hypnobri, and demand to know why they're in the city.
The Fangpire pulls an uno reverse card and demands to know what happened to the Valciraptor and Lloyd.
Nya asks why it matters, since Garmadon has the megaweapon, and the Hypnobri accidentally spills the tea that the megaweapon is "acting out" in a sense, not obeying its master's wishes and even starting to crack, which we see in a cut to Garmadon as the snake talks/narrates.
Garmadon commands the weapon to speak to him, but it only shows his reflection and grows cracks into it.
Cut back to the ninja and Cole asking what Lloyd has to do with it. Neither of the snakes know, but they need to find and retrieve Lloyd or Garmadon's going to get two new wallets.
Cut back to the Bounty after the ninja and Nya finish interrogating the snakes, where they see Zane walk out with Lloyd, who's getting a little better at walking and now has an awesome new hairdo. They all have to admit he looks pretty good, but get back on track with explaining what they learned about the megaweapon and Garmadon trying to find Lloyd.
Wu deduces Garmadon has practically abused the weapon's power and it's at its limit and tells a growingly stressed Lloyd he must stay on the Bounty, no matter what. Lloyd, however, isn't listening as he comes to his own conclusion: the snakes must have seen him use the Tomorrow Tea against the Valciraptor, but didn't see the monster die or him grow. They reported to his father, and now the final battle must begin NOW.
"This is all my fault."
Cole tells him it isn't, as the final battle was alway going to happen and Lloyd should really calm down because his hands are glowing with energy that his little body couldn't exactly make use of before.
With a shout, the energy blasts outward, knocking back the ninja, Nya, and Wu, just a little bit because he energies himself a shield. No one's thrown off the deck of the Bounty, Llyod just shoves them back a little too hard without directly touching them.
Zane determines the increase in power he now has and asks Wu if power is somehow connected to one's emotions, which he says can be the case.
Lloyd apologizes for almost throwing them overboard, which they accept as long as he doesn't do it again(he never will), and Wu tells him that his emotions and his powers are like different streams that go the same way; they're going to to seperate and hard to see together, but when they meet and converge into a river, they'll be united and strong. If it doesn't make sense, I'm so sorry, I'm not good at being a wise mentor. Lloyd is about to protest, but nods and agrees.
With the power of Process of Elimination, the team comes to the conclusion that Garmadon and the serpentine are probably at Ouroboros, all things considered.
They head there, their dragon following, which has totally been here the whole time, it just hunts and whatnot and comes back, though the ninja instruct it to stay with Lloyd once they reach the city.
During the flight, which takes a couple days, Cole finds Lloyd reading a book Zane lent to him, a fictional one talking about mature subjects like the societal underworld, politicians involved in and protecting people from it, and the society itself blind to what's going on. Forgetting Lloyd's sudden physical growth, Cole tells Lloyd that he's a little young to be reading a book like that. Lloyd, however, says he's tried reading it before, about a week ago, but barley understood it. Now he's starting to, proof that his mind is slowly catching up with his body. Cole takes a seat next to Lloyd as the younger admits that since his sudden growth, he's been seeing more of the world, kind of like before when he was younger, but there's more to see now, like he's a fish in a tank that's left the decorative house it stayed in only to find it is now noticing the tank is really the ocean for the first time, and is about to swim and explore it all.
Cole puts an arm around him, pulls him close, and assures him that he doesn't have to explore this ocean alone, that he has Wu, Nya, Zane, Kai, Jay, and himself(Cole) with him, as they are his school, if they're still using the fish analogy.
Lloyd thanks him, resting his head against Cole's shoulder, and admitting tearfully, and wuite self deprecatingly, that even with how much bigger he's gotten, he still has a lot of growing to do. Cole assures him he'll grow pretty quickly, knowing Lloyd.
They arrive and head out, the Bounty a good distance away as to not attract attention. Lloyd tells them to be careful, which they do, as long as he promises to stay put, Kai offering to buy him candy if he does, which Lloyd does not find funny at all.
Cole, being smart, offers that if they aren't back in thirty minutes, he can join in the fight, which Wu reluctantly agrees with, to calm his nephew.
They leave, Zane looking back and gesturing for Lloyd to remain out of sight as he stands on the deck.
Lloyd instead crouches and then sits down, examining his hand again before one of the dragon's heads rubs against it, so he can give ot pets. He chuckles as he does. "Guess I'm finally taller than Brad," he says to himself.
Back with the team, they arrive and enter in secrecy, watching from a close enough distance as Garmadon tries to make the weapon work as the serpentine return from searching for Lloyd and the Valciraptor, which they report is dead while Lloyd is purely missing. Garmadon groans and calls them all useless before pacing and turning to his last ditch effort: using the weapon to summon Lloyd to him.
Wu has none of that and spinjitsus his way into the center of the arena Garmadon and the serpentine have gathered, knocking out and away a few snakes and a general or two.
The rest join in and the battle begins, Garmadon and Wu duking it out, with Garmadon demanding, "Where is he hiding!?" as Wu snarks back, "This battle is between us!" while the ninja and Nya fight against the snakes, which are coming at them in very overwhelming numbers.
Cole and Zane are fighting back to back and doing fairly well as Zane hopes Cole was serious about that "thirty minutes" thing, because goodness help them if he doesn't show up.
Funny Zane say that as we cut to a sort of TV, Viewer prespective of a montage/jump cut extravaganza that cuts between Lloyd and the ninja fighting, quiet, slightly humorous, kinda bored soinding music playing for Lloyd as he rests his head in his arms on the table and looks at the clock to see only five minutes have past. He leans back with a sigh and blows some hair off his forehead as he taps a finger. Cut loud, kind of desperate, fighting, action music playing with Wu kicking Garmadon away and doing some wicked staff attacks that knock away Skales and the Fangpire general. Garmadon gets back up and the two have one of those weapon colliding glare offs as Garmadon seethes, "You stole my family once, I will not let you do it again!" He pushes Wu back and slashes at him, Wu dodging and asking, "You really think he will be safe back among the serpentine!? Not even you can protect him from them, and you LEAD them!" Garmadon shouts, "ENOUGH!" and lunges at Wu. Cut back to Lloyd, who's leaning against the railing on the bow of the Bounty and having a staring contest with Shard, who blinks, making Lloyd smirk at the victory. He checks the time on his phone and finds that seven minutes has past since the team left. CUT to Jay as he's thrown into frame by Skalidor before Zane dropkicks him for old time's sake. He helps up Jay, who thanks him, and they tag team Skalidor, who hisses at tail whips Zane and right hooks Jay. CUT back to Lloyd, who's balancing on the railing with the dragon watching, each head knowing what stupidity this 7 year old in a 16 year old's body is going to cause. He quickly switches feet ans his foot slips, making him lose his balance and fall to the dirt. The camera would linger on where he was standing as he hisses in pain and groans, "Ow." CUT to Cole as he wrestles the Hypnobri general to the ground and smashes his fist into his face, knocking the snake out standing back up in time for a Constricti to land on his shoulders and choke hold him. As he fights it off, Kai and Nya take turns fighting off Skales and an assortment of snakes, Nya even getting a few good hits in with her chakrams as she dryly remarks that she should've left ninja-ing to the boys. Cole throws off the Constricti and shouts, "Wherever Lloyd is, he better get here now!" CUT to Lloyd chewing on his nail as he's crouching on the ground, occasionally looking at the dragons through the corner of his eyes, like his eyes move but his head doesn't, and looking at the arena at the center of the city. He does this a few times before checking his phone again. Fifteen minutes has past and he can't take the suspense anymore as he climbs back onto the Bounty, quickly changes, and runs to join the fight, though the dragon trots after him in time to see him stumble a little. He saddles up and flies there instead, as he'll need all the energy he can get. (Thank goodness that's over.)
The ninja, Nya, and Wu are surrounded and back into the center of the arena, all of them bloodied, bruised, and worn from fighting, the snakes and Garmadon swarm in, ready to deliver the final blow, Garmadon having figured out he can create a killer lightning storm that doesn't TECHNICALLY go against what the weapon does.
Too bad Lloyd drops in super hero landing style and uses earth powers to knock the snakes back, and accidentally make the team fall. Garmadon remains standing and points the weapon at him, demanding to know who this tall, teenage, powerful ninja in green is; for anyone who says he should know his son is the green ninja, Garmadon doesn't know Lloyd threw away 9 years of his life to save the ninja, and it's kind of dark out, so he can't really see his eyes.
Lloyd stands up, stumbling a little, but still stands, gesturing for the team to stay back as he rises. He and Garmadon have a stare off before Lloyd gets into a defensive stance.
Garmadon laughs, remarking that this warrior is here in Lloyd's place, probably because they hid him somewhere. Lloyd's shoulders drop, because he's right there, but Garmadon interprets it as the ninja's plan being foiled, remarking that it was clever of them, but it was still stupid. He also can't help but thank Wu for keeping Lloyd away from the battle.
Before he can say more, Skales charges, clocking Lloyd with an upward swing from his staff into Lloyd's jaw, knocking him down. He shouts if THIS is Ninjago's hero, an amateur who's all bark and no bite? Lloyd kicks him back for that and stands as he picks up a sword one of the snakes dropped, holding it up as much as he can despite the weight. The snakes laugh, and Lloyd gives a 'bitch, really' face and throws the sword at Skales, which bangs into his staff and scares him.
"I'm not here to play games!" Lloyd shouts before pointing to the megaweapon. "The weapon's on its last legs. Use anymore of its power, and theres no telling what could happen!" Garmadon scoffs, retorting, "You expect me to just hand it over that easily?"
The serpentine back away, some even pulling the team back with them as carefully as possible. Lloyd notices and realizes what's about to happen.
Soon it's just Lloyd and Garmadon. Tv perspective, the camera would be above the now open ring as the two circle each other from far away, spinning counter to them. It cuts to a perspective behind Garmadon's boots as he walks, steady footed with Lloyd in the background of the frame trying to be tough, but still kind of stumbling. Cut to the same perspective, but behind Lloyd's less sure feet with Garmadon stalking in the background.
From where the team stands, Jay asks to no one in particular if the two aren't really going to fight, considering what the team knows. Upon hearing that, Wu has an 'oh, SHIT' moment, and tries calling out to Garmadon to not fight.
Too late, because he takes a swing at Lloyd, who barely dodges in time and gets a punch into the cheek that sends him back into the ground.
Garmadon shouts for him to get back up, that if he wanted a fight, then he'd get what he wanted, as he was the so-called green ninja. Those words, minus the green ninja bit, trigger a very unpleasant memory for Lloyd, one where an older boy yelled at him and beat him up for being the son of Lord Garmadon. He's snapped out of it with a kick to the face from a serpentine; he was unconsciously crawling away.
Garmadon shouts for his opponent to man up and stop being a coward and Lloyd shakes his head before standing up.
This time, Lloyd apologizes to his father and races towards him, using a trick he picked up from training with the ninja: he sends some lightning in Garmadon's direction, which he blocks, before sliding and kicking his feet out from beneath him, making Garmadon fall as Lloyd kips up, one that he's been practicing and celebrates pulling off prematurely. (Again, 7 year old in a 16 year old's body)
Garmadon gets up with a cool sweepy motion and kicks the back of Lloyd's knee before kicking him HARD in the face, enough to make his nose bleed.
He laughs that NOW this is a good fight, and asks very tauntingly where it's been in the first place, as Lloyd struggles to his feet as he holds his nose. He throws apologies and martial arts to the wind as he shouts and left hooks Garmadon close to the eye. Garmadon has none of it and uses two of his four hands to grab Lloyd's hands before returning the punch to its sender, kneeing, and kicking Lloyd away once more, but not without a surprise blast of ice to the megaweapon, freezing it to uselessness.
On his back, Lloyd fights tears as Garmadon shouts at him for getting in the way, being no better than the ninja and always trying to ruin his plans. Lloyd, barely able to keep it together, bites that what he's been told is true, that Garmadon really is evil.
Garmadon kicks him numerous times for that, in the face, ribs, and arms, shouting he doesn't know anything about what he's had to do for his son.
Lloyd crawls back and throws his hood off, revealing himself for everyone to see, those who don't know, at least.
All that rage and battle adrenaline Garmadon had immediately gets washed away by horror as he sees and recognizes the green ninja's face, even though he's bleeding, starting to bruise, and has tears streaming down his face.
Silence washes over the entire arena; not even Skales has something dry to say.
Garmadon and Lloyd stare at each other, the father struck with guilt and horror as his son glares at him as he doesn't bother trying to stop his tears, even backing away when Garmadon reaches out for him.
"L-Lloyd? How?"
Lloyd rolls onto his front and pushes himself up, grunting out, "The Valciraptor. I used tea to make it age into nothing but bones. Kai and Jay and Cole, the weapon made them turn into kids." He stands very slumped over and holding his side and turns around to Garmadon, who puts the pieces together, and glares at Wu.
"You... You fools! Look at what you've done to MY SON!"
"All Sensei did was bring the tea to our location," Lloyd replies as he takes a breath and straightens, wiping his eyes and meeting his father's gaze head on. "I wasn't going to let you take my family away from me."
Those words put a SPEAR through Garmadon's chest and opens the teams eyes, especially when Lloyd turns to them and smiles to say what he said was true.
Garmadon trembles as emotions flood him. He's beaten and attacked his son, turned his ENTIRE family against him, and has ultimately proven that the evil from the great devourer's venom has truly shaped who he is.
But he still has the megaweapon. With a shout, he smashes the bottom part into the ground, commanding the weapon to turn back the clock and to give him back his son, to give him back his boy and give him the power to destroy those who've taken everything from him.
The weapon cracks even more and begins to start working, but a panic reaction from Lloyd takes care of that:
The teen's eyes go from their usual red to green, and then gold as he shoots a blast of energy at the weapon just as it too blasts at him and the team. Despite a little back and forth, the gold and green blast overwhelms the megaweapon and it is destroyed in Garmadon's hand, leaving nothing but the fang blades and the now permanently dormant golden weapons.
The gold and green energy blast morphs into enery tentacles as Lloyd slightly hovers off the ground. Before they can do anything, he drops to the ground, the energy fading and everyone still alive. Garmadon's eyes lock onto the unconscious Lloyd and he drops to his knees, only watching him as his own tears fall from his eyes
The team silently collect the fang blades and the weapons, though Zane chooses instead to carry the unconscious Lloyd on his back.
As they leave, the serpentine all back off, giving them room to leave. Skales does try telling them to attack, but Garmadon weakly grabs his arm. "No. That's enough. Let them go."
The episode ends as the team reaches the Bounty and Lloyd cries as quietly as he can, which Zane notices. Kai asks if Lloyd's okay, but Zane says that Lloyd's just having a bad dream, as he did get triggered earlier, and will be okay when he's in bed. Kai shrugs it off, and Lloyd thanks Zane, who smiles sympathetically as the episode closes.
NEXT EPISODE: We start with a another jumpcut montage, but it's not crazy like before. Somber-ish music playing as we switch from Garmadon, who's leaning against a table while dealing with a major shame-over from fighting with Lloyd. The serpentine watch him closely, but are too scared to ask what their plan of action is now. Cut to Lloyd as he lies curled up in bed with the blankets over him. He's still physically and mentally beaten up by what happened in Ouroboros and would rather stay in bed than talk about it. Tv perspective, the camera would be on a tired and drained Lloyd as he hears and feels his bed creak slightly behind him as someone sits down. It cuts to show it's Wu, who has some bandages on his face from the battle and is silent for his nephew's sake. He goes to put a hand on Lloyd's shoulder, but Lloyd sits up and removes the blanket. They stare at each other before Lloyd hugs him, Wu returning the hug and rubbing the back of Lloyd's head. Cut to Garmadon staring at the sky, with Skales and some lower ranked serpentine watching him. One brave soul gulps and approaches him, offering some water, because he's been standing and staring for hours on end. G-Dog politely turns down the free drink and returns to standing and staring. Zoom in on Skales glaring him down as the serpentine quietly agree that since the fight, Garmadon's been about as useful as a water in a spray bottle used against a house fire. Cut to the ninja as they train on the deck, Nya included, all of them stopping when Lloyd walks out and awkwardly shrugs as he forces a smile.
As he warms up, Jay checks in on him, maybe we can have a visual gag of Zane doing something cardiovascular by running between where the deck meets the front and back of the ship behind them as they talk.
Jay asks if Lloyd's feeling any better, all things considered, including that he hasn't left the bunk rooms in a week, and Lloyd says he's fine, not as good as he'd like to be, but fine as he is. Jay then asks about what happened with the megaweapon, more specifically when Lloyd did the cool hovering thing, to which Lloyd responds that he still can't remember what he did or the events slightly prior, even though he's tried remembering and repeating what he did, though he does ask if they've had luck with the weapons and fang blades.
Kai pauses from his spar with Cole to say they've still had no dice. The elemental weapons are dead and there's no bringing them back. Behind them, Zane sprints around them, on a mission to get in as many laps as he can.
Lloyd deflates at the fact that Wu was right about the weapon being at its limit, but continues warming up.
Nya, from her place on some sort of mini obstacle course, relays that she and Wu did some digging and noted that the weapons had certain reactions when placed beside certain weapons; the scythe looked less like dead stone next to the 'earth' fangblade, the one used in the trophy for the talent show, there was a defined red edge to the sword next the the 'fire' fang blade, etcetera. Lloyd, who switched to doing push-ups, wonders what it could mean.
Kai jokes that maybe it has to do with Garmadon getting the fangbaldes and making THEM into another megaweapon, but Cole quite literally kicks his ass for this, which sends Kai to the deck with a surprised yelp. Cole ignores the glare from Kai as he says whatever the change is, it's most likely important. He also apologizes for how messed up his blood family is, concerning what Lloyd said about them being his family. When Lloyd flinches away, Jay tries to lessen the words by saying, "Hey, at least you still have Sensei. A-and your mother." Lloyd shakes his head at this and admits, "I wouldn't know. I've... never met her. I mean, I remember her, but... something happened. And I never saw her again."
The ninja ans Wu are dead silent, but Kai gets up to continue his spar with Cole, and try to steal the rank of leader, only for Zane, who's been running this entire time, to surprise leap onto his back and send him back into the deck, Kai shouting, "No! Not again!"
The ninja laugh, and Lloyd lets himself chuckle, Zane saying to him as he holds a wrestling Kai, "Regardless, Lloyd, I believe we should be able to make up for what you've lost, if you'll allow us." He nods and says he does, thanking Zane as Kai breaks free.
Too bad the moment's broken by an alarm going off, Wu informimg them that venom from the great devourer has been found at anither museum in Ninjago City, one that's bigger and more expensive to go to than the one where the Valciraptor was revived. They all head out, even Lloyd, who figures he could use the change of scenery.
Quick cut to Garmadon sulking, but a Hypnobri saying they found the ninja at sea, and that they overheard Lloyd admitting he was apologetic about what happened with the weaopn. Garmadon, too desperately, commands that they get there immediately, missing and smirking Skales, who nods a 'well done' to the Hypnobri.
Back with the team, they make it to the city, the dragon and Bounty hidden a top a building as they arrive, carrying the fang blades with them along with the dead elemental weapons for safe keeping, and because they missed using the weapons.
Turns out the venom, like before, has given life to some of the museum's exhibits, but instead of bobbleheads, it's extinct creatures that used to hunt in Ninjago before humans were a thing, creatures like sabertooth tigers with cobras for a tails, bears that stand tall as giraffes and are long as hell rather than squat and fat, maybe a mini Valciraptor and Treehorn, and all sorts of nasties that makes the hair on even Zane's arms stand on end.
As the museum's director explains the situation, Lloyd stops and notices a painting of a crowd, maybe a battle in a village, and the camera would zoom in on his face, more specifically eyes because his face is hidden, as he stares. TV perspective, the director's voice fades into a crowd screaming in terror, particularly a woman screaming for her child to stay with her before the child himself screams for his mother.
A tap on the shoulder from Zane snaps him out of it, the white ninja asking if he's okay, which he semi-lies about. They rejoin the group and find the beasties, each person taking on one: Cole gets the monster long giraffe bear, Kai gets a large, wolf sized doberman with a long long and snake head and a bat head, Jay gets the sabertooth, Zane has to deal with treehorns agian(he looks at them with a glare, pulls off his hood, and lets a very scary, psychotic smile grow on his face because these things are the size of pitbulls.), and Lloyd is left to a cheetah-horse hybrid that spits acid at him, acid similar to what we have in our stomachs to digest food.
Each creature is oddly colored and had grown a stoney patch with veins of the devourer's venom pulsing all theough their bodies.
Where are Wu and Nya during all this? Well, Nya saw a woman almost get nommed on by one of these creatures, but the woman threw NYA out of the way and dealt with it herself with a blade hidden in her research scroll. Another beast comes running, but just as she goes for her blade again, Wu saves the woman as Cole takes care of it, apologizing for being a bad driver. Wu asks if she's alright, the camera on him, and he gasps at who he just rescued, even though she would've been just fine.
Cut to the ninja each fighting off their respective monster and winning, though when they hear shouting from Zane, they find him panting in a room full of dust and stone bits with a smile on his face. They're all terrified, but Jay's the only one brave enough to say Zane's lost it, which Zane responds to by throwing a recreated treehorn bit at him.
Lloyd isn't as successful as the cheetah-horse keeps knocking him back with it's front hooves and going for a bite, though he does well enough to get a few kicks in and block it woth his sword. It snags his collar instead and shakes him into a wall, which makes him see stars, before it goes for a bite and Lloyd gets in a killing blow with a sword. It falls, and he lies on his back, worn from the fight and not noticing the mini, great dane sized Valciraptor bites his hood and drags him back, making Lloyd choke. He's dragged awsy from his sword and his powers aren't exactly working right now, so he's left flailing and kicking to try and break free.
Thank goodness a blade pierces the Valciraptor and a boot stomps in it, destroying the creature. I hope you remembered that woman Wu saved, because she helps Lloyd to his feet as he coughs and thanks her.
The two meet eyes and the woman gasps, the team rounding the corner with Wu at the lead. Lloyd has major déja vu as the woman holds his face, tearing up as she examines him, asking if it's really him.
Wu speaks up to Lloyd that he probably wouldn't remember, as he was a CHILD when it happened(there's being a child, like a little kid, and then there's being a CHILD, like a 2 or 3 yesr old) and a crowd that heavy would have been too overwhelming for a three year old to handle. The ninja are flabbergasted and Lloyd backs away, a look of 'it can't be' on his face before he runs, overwhelmed by what's going on and not turning back when the woman calls for him and starts to give chase before Nya stops her, saying he just needs a lottle bit of time. Jay apologizes for breaking the moment and asks who this woman is, considering how skilled she is for being Wu's age.
Wu states that this is Lloyd's mother, the woman taking the wheel and introducing herself as Misako.
Cut to Garmadon and the serpentine generals as they fly a fang-copter over the water, Garmadon looking and asking for where Lloyd is. Skales replies, "Right HERE!" and shoves hin into the water below, where he falls and resurfaces to see them fly away. He calls them bastards and traitors and swims in a random direction, hoping it's right because damn him, if it isn't. Skales and the other generals bid good riddance to bad rubbish and the other leaders decide Skakes would maje a great leader. He ddoesn't disagree.
Back at the museum, the team has split up in search for Lloyd, the groups being Wu and Cole, Zane and Misako, and Jay, Nya and Kai, who's joining so Jay doesn't do anything suspicious. Zane catches Misako up on the series and tells her what's happened. She's not too happy about the fact her son fought his father one on one and got his ass kicked or the fact that he thought it was a good idea at 6 years old to befriend a bunch of snakes, but knowing what happemed and what he's been through, she can't exactly throw in her two cents. Zane admits that she's back in Lloyd's life now, and the two of them can catch up personally.
They find Lloyd sitting with his knees to his chest near a bottomless pit, which is restricted from entering to the public, and Misako quietly sits beside him. Zane stays back, but sneakily grabs some rope in case they fall.
After a few minutes, in which the rest of the team arrives, Misako carefully puts a hand on Lloyd's head, apologizing to him as he meets her eyes. Turns out he's been crying and he sees that her eyes are tearing up very much so. Out of misunderstanding, and a broken heart, he asks why she left him. Misako quickly hugs him, crying that she held on as much as she could, that she should've carried him rather than led him by hand as he was only three years old at the time. He thinks back to that painting and remembers more clearly as Misako weeps it was an attack and they should have left as soon as it began rather than sit and wait for Garmadon. Lloyd remembers vaguely how his father was back then as well, and says almost bitterly that his father hasn't changed a bit.
Misako pulls away and gets a closer look at him, asking how he got so bug if only four years have past. Zane's the one to spill the tea, the Tomorrow Tea that is, and Kai tries joking about it, stealing my spilling the tea joke, which earns him 'drop dead' eyes from Lloyd and Misako.
Whatever doubts they had about Misako vanish instantly.
Lloyd has one more question, though: Where was she while he was in Darkley's, even when he was thrown out?
Misako gives Wu 'How could you!?' eyes and then hugs Lloyd again.
She looked everywhere for him. The bus he was put on headed toward Ninjago city while her bus headed toward Jumonakai village, the two locations essentially being like Maine and California. She looked in every orphanage, boarding school, refugee camp, and anywhere else she could think, going from village to village to try and find him. She never really found him, but she found out about the serpentine and the dark island.
We get the explanation from before about the Overlord, his indestructible army, and that HE'S the one Lloyd needs to take down, not Garmadon, though they all move rooms so no one falls in the bottomless pit.
The ninja collectively shudder at this, and then Misako notices the fang blades, asking about them and the dead weapons. Lloyd drops the megaweapon and fang blade bomb and Misako realizes that the great devourer is gone with a capital G, which is bad because it could've been a last resort. She also remembers something she learned, when Lloyd talks about the weapons reacting to the fang blades. She holds the nunchucks with the fangpire blade and everyone is surprised to see the weapons merge into a cook buton sai mix that can be nunchuck-y with the push of a button. Lloyd asks how it's possible, since the weapons lost their power, and Misako explains that things don't really die, they just become something else, something more powerful. This is a voice over as we see a giant stone warrior come to life with help from the great devourer's venom.
Cut to Jay taking back what he said earlier, because Lloyd's mom is a badass. He's not exactly paying attention, instead asking Wu and Misako why they didn't find him earlier or why Misako hadn't joined the team earlier when Lloyd was first brought on the Bounty. Wu explains that he had called Misako to fill her in, and Misako was on her way, choosing to travel by foot between bus rides because she was tired of getting cat-called by other men and having a sore rear from sitting for nearly four hours straight. She at first started the research to cope with what happened, but it became a hobby and "safety net" for when she couldn't find Lloyd. If that doesn't paint a clear picture that Lloyd is, was, and always has been her first priority, I don't know what does
The stone warrior interrupts the moment, shocking EVERYONE. It takes a swing and they all dodge it, Misako throwing Lloyd out of the way as she flips back and readies her blade again. Lloyd isn't about to lose his awesome mom, so he leaps off the wall and kicks out the warrior's knee, making it fall.
They run to a 'party' room, one that's proper for fighting, and the duel begins, the ninja unsheathing their weapons and each one merging his with a corresponding fang blade after seeing their weapons fail where Jay's succeeds. Cole's scythe mixes with the Hypnobri blade, making it a staff sword on one end and a wicked double bladed scythe on the other, Zane merges his shurikens with the Constricti blade, giving him a staff that his shurikens can be removed from that turns into a bow with ice and venom arrows, and Kai merges his sword with the Hypnobri blade, at girst complaining that his weapon is the same before seeing it is every pyromaniac swordsman's dream when the sword becomes something of a whip that spews fire when it slashes and cracks.
They do more damage to the warrior, Lloyd getting in aome good hits with his powers, which he keeps in check as Misako fights with him and commends him for doing well in battle.
Good times end when the ninja are thrown off and Lloyd remembers the bottomless pit.
He shouts for everyone to give him at least five minutes and ahouts for Nya to follow him, which she does, as the rest keep fighting.
Even though they do well enough, the stone warrior follows where Lloyd and Nya ran, the remaining team trying to stop it.
Cut to it finding and charging at a meditating Lloyd, Misako crying for him to move because he's right infront of the bottomless pit. As the warrior swings, Lloyd falls back, and the warrior falls with him, having lost its balance from swinging at him.
Misako and the ninja are all quiet, Misako fighting tears as Nya says that all Lloyd told her to do was move the rope around the pit and keep her distance, and that she didn't know he'd do this.
Misako sees a glow from the pit and gasps as Lloyd hovers back out of the pit, looking very much like how he did before when he destroyed the megaweapon to protect his uncle and friends. He touches the ground drops to his hands and knees with a sigh, looking back at the pit and laugh-cry about his plan working as Misako hugs him and slyly pulls him away from the pit.
The others are equally glad, though Cole threatens him that if he does something like that again, he's keeping Lloyd in a harness on his chest to keep an eye on him.
They try to laugh it off, even though Misako gives him murder eyes, and all leave the museum, Lloyd sheepishly asking Misako if she's coming with them.
Upon seeing the 'please say yes' in his eyes, she hugs him and agrees that she'd be more than honored.
The episode ends with the team welcoming Misako on the Bounty, and a cut to an unconscious Garmadon floating on his back and washing on the shore of the dark island, exhausted from swimming and plotting on how he can get back at the serpentine. From a first person POV shot, a figure watches him rest, hissing out in a distorted voice, "Ah. He's perfect."

Finally the last of the boxes had been pushed up the five stories of stairs and into your living room. The guy from the movers quickly accepted the payment and disappeared before you could even utter “thanks.” You didn’t blame him. Anyone would be over eager to leave after hauling boxes up the stairs given that the lift randomly stopped working.
You were just relieved that none of his men got stuck inside. That would have been awful. He complained about the sort of shitshows the rental buildings in the locality were, but all things considered, he had been pretty nice about the untimely disaster.
You closed the door behind and slid to the floor, glad that you didn’t have to smile for strangers anymore.
The lift might have been a shitshow, but the flat you were renting was really nice. It had two bedrooms, a living room and a small kitchenette. The flat had only one bathroom, but the grand balcony on the other side of the living room all but made up for it. You got off the floor and made your way towards the balcony. It overlooked a small meadow of sorts, and the entry wall beyond it was high and covered with thick vines. Right in the middle, was a small fountain in the shape of a mermaid, carved out of what must have been once pristine white marble. The mermaid had a mysterious look on her face, like she knew your secret, and was contemplating if it would fetch a good gossip. In her hand, she held a beautifully carved flask, from which the water fell into the basin below.
It was like being in your own space, enclosed in this beautiful Caribbean meadow. That was until a voice called your attention.
“Hey!”
You looked sideways to find an Asian guy who couldn’t have been more than 20 waving at buy. You waved back awkwardly.
“So, I see you’ve met judgy Judy!”
“Who?”
He tilted his head towards the mermaid. “That’s judgy Judy.” he said, smiling. “If you happen to walk past her after 12 in the night, you are bestowed upon the judgiest of looks. And if you’re drunk…” he let out his breath in whoosh.
You laughed, then were surprised at the sound of it. You didn’t laugh this easily.
“My name’s Kevin,” the boy said. “Kevin Tran. Aren’t you the new girl renting 502? Meg?”
You shook your head. “I’m Y/N, actually. Meg won’t be here until Wednesday.”
You knew nothing about your roommate except that she loved her privacy. That was her only demand in the advert. That she was looking for someone who knew of basic hygiene and didn’t poke their nose in her business. You couldn’t argue with that.
He smiled, “So what brings you here, Y/N?”
Before you could answer, Kevin put out his hands excitedly. “Wait! let me guess. You’re a pastry chef, looking to start your own little bakery in this quaint little town.”
You rolled your eyes. That was about as far as he could get from why you were here.
He caught on. “No… no… you’re an artist? Looking for inspiration?”
You pursed your lips, trying not to smile. “I’m actually starting the year at the Law school.”
Kevin whistled. “Law school, huh?” Then added, “Hey, what do I know? I’m just an engineer!”
You sized him up. He looked too young to be a professional.
He raised his hands up, “I know, I know what you’re thinking,” he said and you instantly felt guilty about judging anyone by their looks. Judgy Judy would be proud.
“You’re thinking why would I live out of the city,” he said and you breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s ‘cause San Francisco is boring. Besides, I get to work from home a lot, and it’s an hours drive anyway.”
“Seems fair,” you said. He didn’t ask you why you weren’t staying in the official campus dorms. Maybe he had already done the mental math and figured out that the Law building was less than a ten minute walk from here. Besides, most of Stanford was a student town anyway. This building was closer to the college than even the Faculty residence.
“Hey, Y/N,” Kevin said genially, “Why don’t you join us for dinner? It’s just me and my roommate Jack. We can order some pizza and pop some beers. It’ll be cool. That way you don’t have to worry about cooking in the middle of all that unpacking.”
It was starting to get chilly outside, and you wrapped your arms around yourself, “I’m not much a drinker.”
“That’s fine,” he said, unfazed. “We have soda, if you want.”
You hesitated, “Thanks, Kevin, really. Maybe some other time.”
You waved at his somewhat confused face and stepped inside, closing the glass doors of the balcony behind you.
If Kevin thought you were weird, he’d get used to it like everyone in your life. He would get used to not talking, stealing glances and the fact that you weren’t exactly the sort of person people wanted around in fun times. He’d learn to ignore you like everyone else.
Most of the weekend was spent trying to put your room together. There really wasn’t much to your belongings except books and some clothes, which you arranged as neatly as you could. If the blaring music on your speakers disturbed Kevin and his roommate, neither of them complained.
On Monday, you attended orientation lectures by a few alumni and the Dean. It all seemed like a dream to you. On Tuesday, they had a pre-law show you around in groups, the grand campus that was Stanford University. By the end, you were biased about the Law building being the best, maybe because you had dreamt of being here day and night for as long as you could remember. The Law school wasn’t a grand facade. It was functional and built in a pale beige sandstone which had weathered wonderfully over the years. The corridors were breezy and opened on to landscaped spill out spaces … and the building itself seemed to breathe through the tactfully placed fenestrations.
The pre-law showing your group around the campus talked and talked and talked, while you followed her dumbfounded at the expanse of it all. One day, you’d get used to this, you knew that… but that day was nowhere near close. In fact, it had barely even registered that you had done it! That you had actually been accepted into Stanford and that you were going to be a lawyer!
Stanford had twenty libraries. Twenty. The place that you absolutely fell in love with was the Cecil H. Green library. The high, vaulted ceiling made you feel like you had stepped right into the Victorian era. The rows and rows of shelves absolutely boggled your mind. You could live here and it still wouldn’t be enough.
You touched the richly colored mahogany table in the library and unwillingly, like it was the most inevitable thing in the world, you thought of him. The look in his eyes when he talked about this very place. “Y/N,” he’d say “You’re gonna fall in love with the smell of those books!”
You immediately yanked your hand from the table, as if a current had passed through your body. The girl next to you, looked over. “Everything alright?” she asked kindly.
You nodded and moved away from the piece of furniture. You couldn’t think about him now, not here. So, you took a couple of deep breaths and closed your eyes, focussing on the things around you, the long shelves, the smooth tables. And it eased some, you could feel your chest constrict a little.
Meanwhile, the guide talked on.
“Water?” The girl next to you offered as you all stepped out of the library. You needed it, but that meant talking to her, and you weren’t sure you were up for that.
“C’mon, take it,” she insisted, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
You took the bottle and splashed some water on your face, then took two gulps, feeling better immediately. The water tasted funny, but in a refreshing way.
You looked at what was inside.
The girl laughed. “It’s cucumber water,” she said. “I figured we’d be doing a lot of walking today and this is a saviour.”
“Thanks,” you said, actually looking at her properly. She had a slim build, with dark brown hair and eyes. Despite knowing that they would be walking a lot, she was dressed in a black pencil skirt and a flowy baby blue blouse, with matching heels. She was carrying all that effortlessly without breaking a sweat, while you were wearing your most worn pair of comfortable jeans, a sweater and sneakers. You did notice that she looked really pretty and when she smiled, it reached her eyes.
“Better?” She asked
“Much. Thank you.”
She put her hand forward. “I’m Madison. Madison Maxwell.”
“Y/N Y/L/N.” You shook her hand.
The others had already gone ahead while she had waited for you to catch your breath and drink water. You started walking together.
“So, excited for the classes to begin?” She asked peppily and you nodded.
You figured that Madison was the sort to fill every silence with words. After a while, she was going to be really disappointed in you for your lack of responses or initiating a conversation.
As you walked, Madison told you everything that she could about herself in the span of the couple minutes it took you to reach the rest of the group. She was born and brought up in Pasadena, to a lawyer dad and a socialite mom. “I feel like my mom was born as a socialite! Her first words were probably, ‘well, hullo, Dahling!”
You laughed, and encouraged by your reaction she continued. She was a pre-grad in sociology from USC, where she was voted the most likely to charm people with her smile (seemed fair). She had two older brothers both lawyers in their Dad’s bigass firm, and they lived in this huge house overlooking a hugeass swimming pool. Her words, not yours.
The fact she was rich was pretty much in your face, from the gucci bottle filled with cucumber water to the Prada shoes, but it wasn’t because she was pushing it… she was just used to it.
“What about you?” She asked as you reached the group. “Where are you from?”
“Kansas,” you said.
“And?” She coaxed good naturedly.
“And I did my pre-law from University in Texas.”
“That’s nice. What about your parents?”
You looked down. “They died in a car crash when I was little.”
“Oh no!” Madison gasped. She looked like she was about to tear up.
“It’s okay,” you said quickly, offering her a smile. “I’ve made my peace with it.” It was true. You’d had twenty odd years to adjust to it. It was a way of life now.
Madison still gave you an apologetic smile, but thankfully, for the rest of the tour she didn’t talk much. It wasn’t that Madison wasn’t charming, but everyone charming usually expected the same from you… and you weren’t. Why pitch her up for disappointment?
“So, see you tomorrow, Y/N?” She asked, tentatively.
Poor girl, you thought. “See you,” you said. “It was nice meeting you, Madison.”
“Likewise,” she said brightly.
You watched her walk over to another group of girls, all dressed fancily, who squealed when they saw Madison. You shook your head, smiling to yourself that Madison had found some kindred spirits.
It didn’t explain why she had been so nice to you all day though. If she already had friends, she didn’t have to care about you, right?
It took you a while to figure out which was your exit. Roaming around in the campus as it was dark, was anxiety inducing. Yet, a voice in the back of your head kept telling you how the Oval was at the centre of the campus, and the Law building was just to the south east. You didn’t want to hear the voice, hell you didn’t even want to think about whom the voice belonged to, but slowly and surely it guided you back to the gate closest to your flat. Once you reached it, you made a run for it, not stopping till you were inside the tall building gate and into the meadow. You ran into Kevin.
“Y/N!” He said, “I didn’t see you there.” Next to him was another boy, dirty blonde hair and a smiling face. “This is Jack. Remember, I told you about him?”
Jack took one look at you and concern rippled across his face, “Hey, you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, just tired,” you whispered.
Before any of them could say another word, you dashed up the stairs.
“The lift is working again!” Kevin called after you, but you bolted into your room without halting. Once you were inside, you locked the door behind and you rolled into a ball on your unmade bed, finally letting the tears make their way.
You knew this was coming, you knew it the moment you set foot in this town that it would remind you of him… the way he smiled, the way he ran his hand through his hair when he was nervous… the way you loved him. Over the years you had trained yourself to snap out of it whenever your thoughts even inched towards him. You could shut it off and just stop thinking. It had taken years and years of practice, but finally you could lock him in the darkest part of your mind and not look at it. Not feel anything for him. In return, you barely felt anything at all. About anything, about anyone.
In the long run, you preferred that bargain, though. The numbness.
And after spending so much time in it, the numbness felt homely. It cushioned you against the pain and the memories. So what if it cushioned you against feeling anything at all, too? At least this way you were functional. You could get through the day and be productive. Besides, who did you have to live for except yourself, anyway? So it was okay to just survive. To just feel enough for you to feel human. At one point even that had felt like an impossible feat.
You tried not to remember the days and nights wishing for the endless pain to end, wishing to just give up on everything, on life. At least now you didn’t feel that way. You had re-learned to aspire, to work hard. You didn’t feel hopeful anymore, but you had a goal set in mind and you were willing to work as hard as you could to fulfill it.
Most of the time, you managed to block out all unwanted noise in your head and outside, and just concentrate on surviving. It will have to suffice till one day you could actually start living.
But once in a while the box cracked, like today, and all the memories came spinning out. In the library, somehow Madison’s prattling had kept you from spiralling. Now, there was no one to help. The thoughts simply overwhelmed you and you shut your ears, rolling into a smaller ball, as flashes of light from that night flared behind your closed eyes, the rain pouring down on you and all the blood. The thing you remembered most clearly was the cold. The skin-numbing, bone chilling cold as the water soaked through you.
You woke up to the blaring alarm. It was 7:15 in the morning.
“Shit!”
You jumped out of bed and then immediately slipped, landing on the floor with the thud. You cursed again as you got to your feet and rushed into the bathroom. Not only had you overslept, but last night you hadn’t even gone through your schedule of classes and lectures. The plan had been to wake up at 6, and go through the schedule once more, which you should have had studied last night, wear the perfect first day clothes that you should have picked out last night, and reach early to the classroom which you should have already figured out before 8 in the morning.
At 8 in the morning, however, you were still trying to shimmy yourself into the only formal skirt you owned. You quickly threw on the first decent shirt that you could find and tied your hair in a ponytail, then made your way out of the apartment without breakfast. Your bag was threatening to spill out the laptop and notebook you carried as you all but ran across the street to get to the campus.
By some extreme luck, you remembered the building perfectly. With a quick look through the schedule and the help of a very offended senior, you finally made your way to the class, completely out of breath by 8:20. Even though your hair was falling out of the ponytail, you were covered in sweat and your shoes were permanently damaged, you were miraculously ten minutes early.
The classroom was huge and circular. It was stepped upwards, with desks curving around to focus downwards on the podium at centre, right underneath the big projecting screen mounted on the opposite wall. If you had entered the normal way, you would have probably entered through one of the two doors at the top of the class, but with your luck, you had obviously entered through the one door at the bottom, presumably which the faculty used. This way you had to climb up all the way to an empty spot with over a hundred people staring down at you in your hassled state.
“Smooth,” a blonde guy from the third row muttered as you began climbing.
“Y/N! Hey, Y/N,” a voice called. “Over here!”
You saw Madison waving at you from the corner seat on one of the top rows. A few people were looking at where the commotion was coming from. To avoid more of it, you hurried towards her.
“Saved you a seat!” she said, moving her books from the seat next to her, to make space.
“Thank you,” you said gratefully. The three girls seated on the other side of her, gave you a curious look. The sort that is given to old cheese, wondering if it has gone stale.
“Girls,” Madison said, “This is Y/N. Y/N, these are Lacey, Meredith and Rebecca.” In your harrowed state, you only remembered that the brunette with long hair was Lacey.
“Aren’t you excited?” Madison asked, smelling like she had stepped straight out of a beautiful orchard, while you were sweating bullets.
“Mhmm,” you said. Madison went on to talk about how excited she was for this particular lecture, while you hurriedly set out your laptop, and readied your papers.
“He’s just so dreamy and hot,” Madison gushed and the other girls nodded in agreement. “I can’t believe we have him for the first lecture.”
“How are we supposed to concentrate?” One of the girls wailed.
Like that was really a problem.
“Civil Procedure,” you read from the time table, quickly going through the syllabus, not even looking at the professor’s name the girls were raving about. In your experience, the content mattered, not who was teaching it.
There was a sudden ruffling, and everyone quieted at once.
“Sorry, I’m a little late,” an apologetic voice said.
It was 8:32, you thought absentmindedly, as you looked up from the papers, that was hardly late. That voice felt like long forgotten music.
The professor was facing the board, printing “Civil Procedure.”
When he turned, the floor dropped from under your feet.
He wore a light grey suit, with a striped tie and a white button up shirt, and stood tall against the black board. His soft brown hair was long and silky, curling slightly at his collar, and even though from this far you couldn’t see the colour, his hazel eyes were warm and slightly abashed.
“My name’s Sam Winchester,” he said, the words each felt like a separate stab to your gut. “I'll be taking the Civil Procedure Module for this semester and the next. And, I’m usually never late… especially in the courtroom.”
Some laughter ran around the room. He gave it a minute acknowledging it with a smile, then opened his laptop, and a tech hurried over to set it up.
“While Paul here is helping me with the wires, let me introduce myself more fully,” he said, leaning against the table. “I did my pre-law from right here at Stanford, so I’m still your senior. You all better be respectful.” More laughter rang around. “Then, I went to Yale for law school. I’ve practiced in New York for two years before moving to California, and practicing in LA for a few more. I currently work as the Senior Associate at Acton Griswold in San Francisco. You guys heard of it?”
“Is he kidding?” Lacey whispered. “Who hasn’t heard of Acton Griswold?”
“You’re even paying attention to what he’s saying?,” said the girl next to Lacey. “I can’t get over the way he looks. What is he? 30? Hot damn!”
“I have to impress him,” Madison muttered, though her voice had become softer. “I need that internship at Acton Griswold.”
On the podium Paul was done setting up the laptop, and Sam walked over to it opening the presentation. He pulled out frameless glasses from the box and slid them up his long pointed nose.
“Damn!” Lacey said again.
Your vision was tunneling in, and the room was spinning around you. Nothing made sense anymore. Not where you were, not what you were doing. Nothing mattered except the fact that he was standing there, right in front of you.
You could hear the rustling of papers, and the tap-tap of fingers hitting keys. while you just sat there numbly, not knowing what to do, not caring what was happening, or how long it had been.
“Y/N? Y/N?” Madison was calling your name. “Are you okay? You look really clammy.”
Maybe she had been calling you for a while because a few people ahead of you turned to look, visibly annoyed. and it was in slow motion, almost reluctantly, as if to seek the source of disturbance that Sam’s eyes found you.
A second passed and you could see them widen, then freeze in absolute shock. Unadulterated and profound shock.
“I’m sorry, I need to go,” You muttered, then grabbed your laptop and your bag and rushed out of the door at the top, without caring about the papers you had spilt… and bolted across the corridor, without a sense of direction till you found yourself in a toilet cubicle, locked and in hysterics.
This couldn’t be happening. Not now. Not ever.
You had closed that chapter of your life, fled as far away as you could and yet, and yet he was right here. Sam was so close to you, how had your heart not known?

Chapter Four: The Incident (1/2)
Word count: 1,604
Rating: 18+
By the time Tuesday morning had arrived, Satan had already bragged to the whole household about how he 'found a cure for Noelle's pesky ailment'. This was the reason everyone was sitting at the table waiting. After all it was the first time most of the brothers saw Noelle since Sunday morning, excluding Asmo who tried to charm her a second time at school, and Levi who was forced to be near her due to being her guide. Thankfully the relations between the others in the house hadn't gotten any worse than before.
The explanation was simple. She has to learn to control, her own magic.
"Someone has to teach her magic." Satan said with a blissful smile. The others groaned against it. Most of them. Asmodeus seemed to want to take that responsibility in a heartbeat.
"Oh! I can do it! After all I'm one of the few who won't try and tear her to shreds~"
Noelle and Bella shared a concerned look at his request. Neither fully confident his intentions were pure. Thankfully, Lucifer was on the same page as they were.
"You will do no such thing Asmodeus. We will let Leviathan handle it."
"WHAT!?"
Everyone turned their heads towards the serpent demon and his outburst. He hadn't been paying full attention to the conversation. So the news of him being forced to teach the 'Normie' shocked him.
"Why me! That's so unfair!"
Lucifer gave his final retort.
"You're the only one who hasn't spent nearly as much time as the others. Perhaps if you weren't lost in your anime fantasies and actually tried to get along with Noelle, you could have gone under my radar…"
The conversation seemed to end there, and so did the meeting. Everyone had gone off on their own ways, eager to continue their activities. Everyone but Levi, and Noelle.
Even under Lucifer's instructions Leviathan had managed to keep her at a distance. He had her follow him to the library, and tossed her a book. It was a book on beginners' magic. His grand plan was for her to learn on her own while he played games on his hand held device. No matter how hard Noelle tried, she couldn't gather the courage to ask him questions when they occurred.
The rest of the day went by slowly, and Noelle and Bella finally had a chance to catch up with each other. Both of them burrowing themselves under Bella's mountain of stuffed animals. Her being the first to speak.
"So… You and Levi huh?"
Noelle sighed and nodded in response, letting her friend do the talking.
"I'm sorry if it's not going well for you. Look at the bright side! You get to learn magic. That's pretty cool."
Noelle gave another nod, this time adding a forced smile, and verbally interacting.
"Yeah. I asked Satan for help but when he starts, he doesn't seem to slow down. We both figured I'd be better off on my own."
"What about Lord Diavolo? He's such a big shot, why doesn't he get you a tutor?"
Noelle shrugged.
"I tried that. A tutor is too much use of the school's resources, and Lord D is really keen on the brothers being our guide…"
"That sucks…"
Night came around which it gave Noelle a chance to rest before tomorrow. The only hope of her gaining Levi's companionship was just a sunset away.
Morning came with it's usual dark and hazy atmosphere. Bella had stretched her way out of bed, trying not to trip over the passed out Belphegor who made his nest on her floor. They had watched a movie the night before, both falling asleep halfway through.
On her way going downstairs she came across Noelle, who was just now coming out of her room. They exchanged a quick hello, and gathered their school supplies. Noelle took a deep breath and followed her out the door. On the way to school a group of lower level demons had been slouching around the gates of the entryway. These were the same group of demons that have been bugging both girls throughout the week prior. But most of their pranks were pretty plain, and nothing to be concerned about, especially when Beel was hanging around them. At least, up until today.
"Hey Human Meatballs! Where do you think you're going?"
The girls did their best to ignore them. But sometimes ignoring someone in hopes they go away doesn't work. Especially with demons. In one quick motion one of the demons had snagged Bella by the hoodie, pulling her back into their grasps. Noelle had panicked and followed them, trying to grab onto Bella as much as possible. Anger in her voice.
"HEY! Let go of her, you dumb asses!"
The demon's mocking tones was their only response. Thinking quickly on her feet she unzipped Bella's sweater, giving her friend a makeshift get away. Noelle on the other hand felt a sharp pain in her arm, as the others grabbed and pulled on her. Then all at once, they stopped. Hands frozen in place.
The air surrounding them grew thick and heavy. Out of Noelle's eyesight, a familiar growl was heard. Without warning all three demons turned on their heels and ran off. Noelle had turned around to see what made them flee, her heart beating in her chest. She calmed down quickly seeing the familiar blue eyes of Satan as he rushed to her side.
"I saw everything. How's your arm?"
"My arm-"
As soon as she moved her limb, a shot of pain rippled through it. Satan had pulled the sleeve back, even against Noelle's howls of protest. The skin was cut deeply and it was bleeding. Satan rubbed his hand over it and growled, dragging her along to sit on a bench.
"I have to go get Lucifer. He's the only one who can help-"
"NO!"
Satan looked at her in shock. His head tilted in confusion.
"It's… not that bad. Please, promise me you won't tell him. If he figures out I got into a fight, let alone one that got me hurt, he'll send me back to the human world! He'll force me to leave Bella by herself!"
Satan took a deep, unsure breath and agreed to keep it a secret. For now he patched her up to the best of his abilities, and they went through school like nothing happened.
Neither of them saw the demon bullies for the rest of the day.
The school day itself went along well. Assignments had been finished in most of the girl's classes so they found themselves wandering the hallways multiple times. Noelle had checked up on her, and returned her sweater during a study hall. Both of them trying to find ways to patch up the holes that were left behind.
Satan had joined them on the way back to the House, along with Beel and Belphegor who both apologized for not being around during the earlier encounter. But that didn't matter. They were back home where it was safe.
Noelle had just barely flopped on her bed when a knock was heard on the door. Once back up on her feet, she found a small package sitting outside of her room. Her excitement grew knowing exactly what it was. She all but slammed the door and sat at her crafting table, taking out a sharp knife to open the package.
Sitting inside was the Ruri-chan figurine she'd been waiting for. She'd never really won anything with raffles, especially not with something so wide-scaled. Immediately she took Ruri-chan out of the cluttered shipping paper and ran to Levi's room, knocking on it.
"What's the password?"
Noelle giggles to herself, not knowing the password but knowing how to get his attention.
"Does the sound of a Ruri-chan special edition Soda Brand Figurine count?"
Almost instantly she was met with Orange eyes, and swept hair. Her high energy quickly faded the longer he glared at the box in her hands.
"How did you get that?"
Noelle shrunk back as black hot ashes flaked off from Levi's body.
"I heard about the figurine contest and decided to give it a try?"
They locked eyes, and Levi gave an airy hiss, backing her up across the hallway, demon form unleashed.
"So what? You came here to rub it in my face? Mock me for being an Otaku or something? That's pretty stupid, not to mention low-"
Noelle began to squeeze her eyes shut, not being able to look at him out of fear. She didn't even see him grab her injured arm until it was too late. Even when she was brought to her knees he still persisted.
"And all you ever do is mock me behind my back right? That's why you're so chummy with my brothers too, right? You think I'm so below you, even if you're just a Normie-"
"LET GO!"
Noelle had quickly tossed the box at him, hitting him in the face. He released her, ignoring her silent sobs as she gripped her arm. It took him a few minutes to process the blood on his hand wasn't from his face. Looking down at her, he slowly pieced together the two things that had just happened.
A 'Normie' had wanted to help him win something he wasn't going to get on his own, and how aggressive he was towards her. Concerned that he broke her arm, he pulled her up and ran with her to the bathroom. His heart beat finally steadied as he saw bleeding scratch marks, and nothing to indicate he broke any bones.

⌲ for a sensual, handsy kiss ❆ for a “but they’re in the next room!” kiss
(from Sojiro, thank u)
send one for a drabble - kiss edition . accepting
While walking around Shujin Academy, Melissa was vaguely aware that, perhaps if she had studied most of her high school years in Japan, she’d never have graduated. The sheer amount of tasks and extra-curricular activities put all schools in the US to shame – and for someone with basic education scattered among different countries, she had some decent basis for comparison.
She walked around with linked arms with Sojiro – they had not arrived with the children this time because they had told them wished to surprise the couple with whatever their classroom had prepared. That gave the couple some time to go through the other stands and rooms prepared for the occasion, Melissa particularly enjoying the students who had dressed up and put so much effort into making pretty decorations.
The coffee shop owner wasn’t immune to the kids’ antics either – while one could assume Sojiro to be a quiet and reserved man, his commentary about the set-up of some rooms or unusual menu choices had Melissa stifling giggles and sometimes almost choking on her drink. It was a fun, lazy afternoon – and she felt absolutely content to just be there, enjoying such a mundane walk with Sojiro – probably because it was him by her side.
They had just finished going through a hallway filled with visiting students and others working and then turned right – but the rest of the place seemed empty. Glancing at the signs placed over the doors, Melissa realized they had stumbled on a more administrative part of the school – it appeared to be the path to the library, the nurse’s officer and the principal’s room, among others.
“Oh – do you think we made a wron-“ but the hostess never truly got her question out, her lips suddenly covered by Sojiro’s. She widened her eyes in an spontaneous reaction at first – they were in public, and she tended to be the bold foreigner of the duo (or at least that was surely how others viewed her). But it didn’t take more than mere seconds for Melissa to yield with a pleased sigh, encircling his neck with her arms and allowing herself to be dipped romantically in the middle of the deserted hallway.
His gentlemanly act, however, was short-lived – as soon as he brought her up, the pair ended up pressed against one of the walls, mere meters away from the corner where the classrooms filled with excited teenagers began. There was the background noise in the form of their laughter and conversation, but Melissa didn’t want to stop – neither did Sojiro, apparently.
His hands slid down to her waist – they usually never wandered too far from what was socially acceptable when they were out, but that afternoon made him inventive. While the kiss deepened and the woman found herself pulling at the fabric of his shirt, his own digits traced her sides until the hem of her skirt, playfully touching her just below it and offering her the lightest of the touches against skin, just above her knee-length boots.
It was only when someone stumbled over a chair and dropped some glasses that they separated – one of the soda cans that had fallen victim to the accident came rolling towards them, and they broke apart to the best of their abilities, fixing their clothes and catching their breath for a moment. Luckily, no one came until they had exchanged a look filled with innuendo and a devious grin, Melissa inhaling deeply before taking her boyfriend’s arm again.
“Okay, Sakura-san… Color me impressed, I thought you were the proper one in this relationship.”
“And I continue to be,” he replied with his peculiar smile that reached his eyes and made them twinkle in such a fascinating way, “Point me to someone who can attest to anything out of ordinary happening in this hallway. Nothing happened.”
Melissa let out an airy, amused laugh at that – oh, he was good. No wonder she had fallen for him so quickly – but also a good thing they had returned when they did, because Futaba’s ‘Sojiiiiroooo~~~’ scream from the opposite end of the hallway had definitely cut their alone time short.
At any rate – that had been Melissa’s favorite cultural festival. Ever.

Chapter 11 of Possible-y Utah
Chapter 11 - The Agreement - Part I
AN: The Jack Jerky & Richard Rude names are given full credit to @split-n-splice. My thanks to her for the idea of these two! Also, the CHSAA is the Colorado High School Activities Association, because I am STILL trying to get used to writing KP fics not set in my home state. Now, onward with the story.
(1:13pm)
About a mile away, a limousine was parked at the Middleton Public Library. Inside the main luxurious posh accommodations of the limo were Brick, Bonnie, and Rebecca.
Rebecca was wearing a low-cut white croptop and a short pink skirt. Bonnie was in her pink croptop and baggy jeans showing off her CB boxers.
They were listening in on the entire conversation between Team Possible, Monique, and Tara.
"So...the loser couple is going to Utah of all places with her...interesting..family." Bonnie snickered while sipping diet soda from one of Rebecca's champagne glasses.
"And you can thank the hack-proof tech done by my scientists and engineers for that!" Rebecca grinned.
"Thanks for that, by the way, R!" Bonnie said with a smile. "Not even Possible's techno-buddy...whatever his name is...can break through!""
Rebecca added with a slight snob look, "That's what money can bring you...the goods, B!"
"Well then, I hope Possible doesn't mind me crashing her time off from her so-called 'save the world' thing!" Bonnie said before giving an evil cackle.
"How are you going to do that?" Brick questioned his girlfriend's malicious intent.
"It's very simple, Brick!" Bonnie replied, "We take any evidence, photographic or video, of any humiliating or scandalous moments of those two."
"Ooooh! Scandalous is the perfect word for my dictionary!" Rebecca cackled after taking a sip of the diet cola.
"There is, however, one itsy titsy bitsy little wee minor problem with my otherwise flawless plan." Bonnie mentioned sighing.
"And that would be...?" Rebecca asked, wondering where her new friend was getting at.
"If Kim knew that I was taking photographs or videotape of her on their little family trip, I would be kicked off the squad and possibly suspended from school." Bonnie explained her dilema. "If we have to do Operation Breakup, we have to do it...secretly..."
"But who can we get to take the pics?" Brick asked on how his girlfriend was going to do that.
"Brick, I think I know two of the most perfect people on the football team that'll take those snappies!" Bonnie replied with a grin, thinking of an idea.
Brick gasped, "Oh no! You don't mean...!"
Bonnie slyly replied, "Yes! Jack Jerkey and Richard Rude!"
Rebecca then shouted, "Driver, take us to the upper-middle class of town! Middleton Heights! To Richard's house!"
(30 minutes later)
Jack Jerkey and Richard Rude were members of the football team. Both were white, muscular, and both were star linebackers on the team. The former, approaching his senior year, had black hair and brown eyes and stood around 6'2 and 234 pounds. The latter had blonde hair and blue eyes and stood 6'1 and 229 pounds and already had a scholarship for Upperton University.
However, they would be forever linked in Middleton lore as the guys who failed to wrap up the Florence running back in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter of the second round of the CHSAA Class 3A playoffs. The running back stiff-armed the two linebackers to the ground on that 67-yard touchdown run. The Mad Dogs lost that game by the nailbiting score of 34-27, but Mr. Barkin vowed that the Dogs will be back for next season. Kim, after that game, had to console the senior cheerleaders whom were crying that this was the last football game that they were going to cheerlead in.
The limousine pulled up to Richard's house in the driveway.
"Brick, you stay in the limo. Me and R are going to talk to the two football players." Bonnie insisted.
"Yeah, there should be enough diet cola for you in the mini-fridge!" Rebecca added.
"Are you positive about this?" Brick asked, still unsure of what his girlfriend was doing.
"Trust me. I know what I am doing!" Bonnie sneered, "So stay there until I come out of the house with my plan in hand!"
Brick remained silent and nodded his head.
Rebecca and Bonnie walked up to the door.
"Is breaking up those two losers very difficult, B?" Rebecca asked. She has had very few interactions with Team Possible.
"Oh yeah, R..." Bonnie admitted, knowing the ins and outs of Kim and Ron's relationship "...those two have been together since Pre-K. Trying to destroy such a friendship takes very clever...and careful...planning! But..."
"What is it this time?" Rebecca questioned as they approached the door.
"It's the girlfriends of these two football players that could intervene with my plan." Bonnie explained, "I'll explain when we get inside."
She knocked on the door. One of the football players opened it.
"Huh? Oh, hey, Bonnie." Richard said, looking at the two cheerleaders. "Who's your cheer friend?"
"Ah, she's Rebecca Starlet. She's not exactly a cheerleader...yet." Bonnie explained about her new best friend. "Mind if we come in?"
"Be my guest!" Richard replied, smiling.
Bonnie and Rebecca both walked into the house.
"Would you like to take a seat?" Richard asked as they walked into the living room. "Jack's in the basement playing some football video games.""
"Don't mind if we do!" Bonnie replied. She sat down on one end of the sofa and Rebecca sat down on the other end. They all stared in amazement at the trophies and pictures of Richard during his football-playing days from pee-wee to high school.
Richard, in the meantime, walked down to the basement and knocked on the door.
"Yo, Jack! We got a couple visitors!"
"Who are they?"
"Cheerleaders!"
This piqued Jack's interest.
"OK, I'll bite. What do they want?"
"Well, then, get your ass upstairs and find out!"
Jack got up from the couch and the two football players headed back upstairs. He look at the two cheerleaders sitting on the couch.
"They're just sitting there!" he said.
Richard asked the burly football player, "What is it? Why can't you go out there?"
"Dude, our girlfriends would freak if they saw us with the cheerleaders!" Jack explained in a low voice, "Don't you know the rivalry between them?"
"Yes, I am well aware of that! Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask!" Richard insisted.
Jack came to the living room and asked, "Hello, ladies, welcome to Richard's house! How may I help you today?"
"Oh, hello, Jack!" Bonnie grinned, "Nice to see you! I may need a bit of help of the...humiliating kind!"
"Ah, you want to give wedgies to a few nerds? Or maybe put a kick-me sign on one of the band members?" Richard asked. He had indeed done such stuff before with his fellow other jocks.
"Even better!" Bonnie grinned, "You do know that a certain 'save the world' duo are a couple, right?" She used air quotes arounds "save the world'.
"Yes, we're both aware that Possible and Stoppable are a couple." Richard replied.
"And you did know that they caused $400 worth of damage to my prom dress that night when I landed in the cake with Brick?" Bonnie asked, sneering.
Jack began to snicker at this. He was there when the incident occurred. Bonnie gave a mean cold glare look at him and Jack's snickering immediately ceased, for she knew the wrath of Veronica Rockwaller and her infamous Swatter.
"So, as I was saying, I need your two's help...to break them up!" Bonnie replied.
Richard gasped, "B..Breaking them up? But...that is so evil! It's deplorable! It's diabolical! It's..."
"...perfect!" Bonnie interrupted him. "Furthermore, I would like to enlist the help of your two girlfriends on this little 'mission' as I would like to call it!"
But Jack was unsure, "I don't know about this, Bonnie! Don't you remember what happened with...The Incident?"
"Yes. I am very well what happened with...The Incident...but I do need their help in order to make my plan possible! Call them up now!"
Richard did so and called up his girlfriend on his cell.
"Hello, um...can you come on over to my house? And can you also bring Genna along with you? We have a couple of visitors."

Broken Hearts Club
Tumblr media
Pairing: Na Jaemin x Reader, ft. Lee Donghyuck x Reader
Genre: Bulleted AU, High School AU, Heartbroken AU || Angst, Fluff
Length: 4.2k
Warnings: Swearing, informally written, slight enemies to lovers au
Summary: When a video of your boyfriend, Donghyuck, making out with Jaemin’s girlfriend, Mina, circles around school, you and Jaemin end your relationships and join the Broken Hearts Club, a place where students go when their hearts are broken and in need of repair.
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★
the first time you met na jaemin was when you walked up to the doors of the broken hearts club
you didn’t recognize him as your classmate, nor as the really good dancer on your school’s dance team, not even as just some random good looking guy in your class
to you, he was someone who you had a connection with that was unlike the connection shared with anyone else
your ex, donghyuck, left you for jaemin’s girlfriend, mina, and every single person in the school was aware of it
now you were standing in front of the doors of the club that was about to not only heal your broken hearts but also your faith in relationships
(ya’ll didn't know that yet tho)
you and hyuck were the school’s power couple
you’re the class president, treasurer of the national honor society, and vice president of the ecology club
everyone knows you as a successful student who tutors others in your free time, the one who created the recycling program at your school, and was just an overall nice person to everyone
hyuck is the varsity soccer captain and the class clown, people love his enthusiasm and how he lit up any room he walked into
that’s also what you loved about him awwww
when you first got together, people thought you weren’t gonna last because of how different you were from each other
which ultimately was the case (yikes)
but actually, you and hyuck were together for almost all of high school
you went to all the dances together and sat at lunch together, you would be seen in the library studying with him and not so secretly holding hands under the table
you loved dating hyuck, he was fun and carefree and in your stressful life, you needed someone like him
you even told him you loved him during your two year anniversary when you went stargazing on top of his roof together
(he promised he loved you too)
(he lied)
(and he lied every time he said it after that)
the whole student body was  s h o o k  when the video of hyuck playing tonsil hockey with jaemin’s (now ex) girlfriend circled around
“how could hyuck do that to y/n? they’re so nice :(”
everyone felt pity for you, and all you could do was gingerly accept it, your heart being a bit too fragile to care about the embarrassment of the situation
the sad eyes and soft smiles people sent you were the reason you decided to join the broken hearts club
a place where the side eye glances and the soft tones were non-existent and where you hoped to get your heart to stop breaking every time you walked into school to see mina in hyuck’s arms- a place that belonged to you only days ago
jaemin’s situation was a little different
mina and him were only dating for a few months, but it was enough for jaemin to fall head over heels in love with her
jaemin worshipped her- celebrated every anniversary in their short time together, bought her food and jewelry, he even got into a fight with an upperclassman football player because of a rumor that he hit on mina
mina was the super preppy head cheerleader !!!
but she was genuine about her excitement
that was the only thing genuine about her oops
and that's something jaemin absolutely loved her for- the child-like excitement she holds for everything she does reminded him of himself
jaemin was always trying to see the bright side, his teammates on the dance team knew him for his positivity- he was always trying to be positive for his own sake and for his teammates
but jaemin hates liars and, unfortunately, mina lied to him
a lot
about super little things (at first)
like how she told him she was with her family when she was actually out at the movies with her friends
or when she would say she couldn’t text jaemin back because her phone was dead when it really wasn’t
these things irked jaemin but he got over it
his heart eyes for mina blinded him
when he saw that video, there was a small place in his heart that was not surprised
his attempts at being a positive and happy person vanished and he became angry at mina, for lying to him and for cheating on him
he blamed her for his broken heart and for ruining the relationship
he joined the broken hearts club to get rid of the pure anger he felt towards his ex
but enough back story, lets get to the good stuff >>
so neither you or jaemin really knew what happened in the bh club
you just assumed everyone gathered once a week, talked about their feelings, and then left after an hour
but you were so wrong
during the first meeting, you learned that the bh club sponsors activities to get people to create new memories with others so their hearts can heal
(awwWWW)
so you and jaemin found yourselves at the zoo one day after school with the rest of the club for one of their activities
they buddied you and jaemin up (since everyone else already had a buddy) and told you to:
1. have fun! :D
2. don't cry :(
3. remember, you don't need their love
so with these three “rules” you and jaemin awkwardly walked around the zoo
ya’ll didn’t know how to act around each other
could you confide in him since he was in the same situation?? or were you sworn enemies cuz your ex’s are together now??
it was so confusing to you, but you noticed one thing: jaemin didn’t seem to like you
he didn't reply back when you attempted to start conversation
he would roll his eyes at your comments about the animals
it was starting to get tiring, just being around someone like him made your shoulders sag and your mood go down
you were in the aquarium where all the penguins were, several people gathered around to watch the penguin feeding and you couldn’t see over everyone :(
jaemin rolled his eyes “Here, step up onto the bar, you’ll be able to see”
“I'll fall off”
“no you won’t, I promise I'll hold onto you.”
“I don’t believe you” to jaemin, it was a small and insignificant promise, but your mind went back to the promise hyuck made about loving you and how every time he said it since then was a lie
it didn’t matter to you if it was “I promise I'll hold on” or “I promise I love you”
your hands were sweaty at the thought of someone promising you something and then not upholding it again
jaemin rolled his eyes for the millionth time, and forced you up onto the bar, keeping an arm around your knees and your hand immediately went into his soft blonde hair to steady yourself
you watched the penguin feeding like this- so enthusiastic about the cute little penguins eating their fish uwu
and jaemin watched you- he realized you reminded him a bit of himself, before the mina thing happened
he used to get happy about the little things- he loved getting caught up in the little moments in life because it made him realize that happiness was not a destination, but a journey
jaemin sulked some more as he held onto you during the penguin feeding, wondering where this mindset of his went
god, mina really screwed him over
so you and jaemin kept participating in the bh club’s activities
the next activity was a trip to the pound, where you got to watch kittens being born
(”be careful when you hold them jaemin, your large man hands could strangle them”)
(”I won’t, for once in your life just trust me”)
you still didn’t trust anything jaemin said, but after the zoo, he didn’t seem that cold towards you anymore
when you both held a baby kitten in your hands for the first time, neither of you could help but coo at it- talking in a baby voice and absolutely melting at how the mama cat tended to her kids
afterwards, jaemin was a bit embarrassed about the cooing, but you laughed it off and said there was no need to be embarrassed
it was the first time you had a truly civil conversation, and jaemin found that he liked when you genuinely smiled at him
it made him want to smile too
after that, the next club activity was at a new restaurant that opened downtown, where jaemin choked on his cherry soda when you told him the story of how you locked the vice principal in his office until he agreed to start a recycling program at school
(”you did whAT”)
(”every school needs a recycling program, I wasn't asking for that much?”)
this is where jaemin thinks he first started to admire your persistence about something you were passionate about
when you started talking about how important it is to save our planet, jaemin almost choked on his cherry soda again
this time it was because he was too distracted by the sparkle in your eyes and how you bounced in your seat when you got really excited
he blushed when you caught him staring- heart hammering in his chest
he welcomed the feeling wholeheartedly- loving the rush he got from being around you
outside of the club, you and jaemin slowly started hanging out
first it was to study for your shared english class, then it became less studying and more talking about how romeo and juliet were dumbasses, and other Philosophical Ramblings™
soon, jaemin would make it a routine to meet you by one of the rose bushes outside of school and you would walk in together
this  s h o o k  the school, you and jaemin walking in together that first day sent a new rumor running through everyones mouths
“jaemin and y/n are a thing now”
the two people who were the most affected by this rumor were surprisingly not you and jaemin
but it was mina and hyuck
hyuck was just deadass confused on how you and jaemin even got together- and at the same time relieved that you found someone else
he obviously felt guilty about cheating on you
(he wasn’t dead inside ofc he felt guilty)
but seeing you happy with jaemin made his guilt ease away- even though he still knew what he did was wrong
but mina was just straight up jealous
watching jaemin in the halls- the way he acted towards you and the way he was different with you than when he was with her
it got her pissed and the relationship between her and hyuck took a sudden turn...
when you went to support jaemin during one of the dance team’s performances, this only fueled the dating rumor
after the performance, you greeted jaemin and congratulated him on a great performance, people around you secretly watching your interaction
“I had no idea you could move like that jaemin !! it was like a different you on stage.”
“it’s the same me, I promise” jaemin laughed but you shifted your eyes away uncomfortably
the “p” word was still a bit sensitive for you, no matter the situation
jaemin noticed this and internally winced at himself- he knew how much you hated that word and he quickly tried to turn the awkward atmosphere around
“c’mon, let’s go eat and I can show you a few more moves. I swear, it’s me who was up on that stage !!”
jaemin found himself to be significantly less angry now
he finds himself seeing the glass half full again, and it was something people around him started to notice as well
he felt like he’s almost back to his old self and he doesn't know whether to thank the bh club or to thank you
you also don’t feel that ache in your heart that hyuck left behind anymore
jaemin was somehow training you to accept promises from him, and you couldn’t be any more thankful for him
(”I promise this pork taste good, here, try some”) = when jaemin cooked for you for the first time
(”I promise this looks good on you”) = when you were a bit self conscious about your new sweater
(”I promise I’ll be there for you”) = when jaemin held you to his chest after you had a bad nightmare one night
these days, a new ache settles in your chest
it’s the good kind- the kind that has tingles running down your back at the sight of jaemin and a bright glow on your cheeks whenever you talk to him
you like jaemin
you felt guilty about your feelings at first- you were scared that your brain was just trying to get you to cope with your heart break by using jaemin as a rebound
the day jaemin realizes he loves you was when you snuck into his room one tuesday night
you were wearing a super baggy hoodie and you tripped over it as you climbed through the window and both of you couldn’t stop laughing as you fell into jaemin’s bed, pushing your faces in his pillows to quiet yourselves down
you don’t even remember why you came over, probably some lame excuse like homework?? or a last minute movie marathon?
you honestly could just lay down and look at jaemin all day long if he would let you (which he would) no need for you to make up fake reasons
you looked up from your pillow and jaemin saw how happy you looked, so different from when you were standing before him in from of the club door months ago
“you look happy”
he didn’t mean to say it out loud but the words just tumbled out of him
you looked up at the ceiling and thought for a second
jaemin had filled the past few months with his presence, slowly slipping in through the cracks in your heart
cracks that were there before you even knew hyuck, much less dated him
that’s when you knew jaemin wasn’t a rebound for you- he was the real deal
“yeah.. I am... are you?” you asked, almost nervously
jaemin was considerably more happy and more satisfied with himself than ever before
jaemin knew he was in love
he was happy < you did that
he felt good about himself < you were there to make him see it
“yeah, I am happy”
“really? you promise?”
“I promise, sweetheart”
jaemin was planning to confess with one of the roses from the rose bush when you would meet up in the morning
he had a speech planned out in his head
he kept repeating it over and over again as he held the flower carefully so he wouldn’t cut himself on the thorns
“hey”
it wasn’t you, it was mina
“...hello” jaemin replied, looking past mina to keep an eye out for when you would approach
“how have you been?”
“that’s none of your business... I’m sorry, could you just leave me alone? I'm waiting for someone”
he didn’t mean to be so rude but he was getting anxious as time passed and you weren’t showing up
“jaemin... are you waiting for y/n? didn’t you hear?”
“hear what”
“hyuck and I broke up, he went back to y/n and they're dating again”
jaemin stood still, looking at mina like she just grew a second head
he felt blood trickle down his hand, his eyes caught the sight of his fingers gripping around the rose tightly
he couldn’t believe what he was hearing (and he probably shouldn’t have, considering mina had a track record of lying)
mina stepped closer and reached out to jaemin’s other hand that wasn’t preoccupied with the rose
mina was reminded of the imagines of you and jaemin together- jealousy filling her vision as she watched jaemin break down in front of her
“we don’t need them jaemin, we can be happy together again. remember when we were happy?”
jaemin didn’t remember, his thoughts and memories were now filled with you, he guessed the broken hearts club succeeded in helping him create new memories to heal his broken heart
but all of his new memories were of you now
his newly angered heart made him say his next words
“yeah, okay. let’s get back together”
here’s the deal- you didn’t get back together with hyuck
he came up to your house that morning
he kept apologizing for cheating on you, grabbing onto any part of you to get you to stop walking away from him
when mina broke up with him the previous night, he didn’t know where else to go but to you
you were always there for him and suddenly when he had no one, his mind took him to you- swallowing his pride as he faced you again
you finally stopped, looked at him straight in the eyes and squared your shoulders
if there was one thing you learned from the broken hearts club, it was this:
“I don’t need your love, hyuck”
but what shocked you was when you got to school, walking into the cafeteria that day and seeing your jaemin sitting with mina
she was feeding him from her plate and talking animatedly with him
and he was taking it all in from her- every kiss on the cheek and every laugh from her lips, he accepted it
he looked up from the table, those once warm, chocolate eyes meeting yours
they were now cold, they were empty, they were angry again
you were confused- what happened to jaemin? why was he sitting with mina? did they get back together now that her and hyuck broke up?
the questions made you confused and dizzy and you got out of there asap
despite your confusion, the familiar numbing feeling of your heart cracking returned
you trusted jaemin, the promises he made to you filling your head and you felt like you could break down right there in that hallway
why did the people you trust always hurt you in the end?
despite both of you having broken hearts once again, neither of you went back to the club
jaemin spent a whole four (4) days with mina before he realized he could literally not stand her anymore
she hadn’t changed as a person- she was the same cheerful cheerleader that jaemin dated months ago
but jaemin’s mind was still preoccupied with thoughts of you
and he slowly realized he couldn’t feel anything for mina because...
how could he when there was someone like you walking around- he knew you were perfect for him
one night while jaemin and mina were on a date, she off-handedly mentioned to jaemin how crazy the varsity soccer team is this time of year
when she went to go cheer for them, all of the s/o’s of the soccer players joined along for a game to support them
jaemin hummed absentmindedly “that must’ve been awkward”
“why?”
“y/n would have been there, I don’t think you two would be very friendly with each other”
“why would y/n be there? she’s not dating anyone on the soccer team”
suddenly, both mina and jaemin stopped moving and jaemin looked up from his food, fork in mid-air
mina had a look on her face that said she knew: she fucked up
mina had always been a compulsory liar- it was just so easy and addicting for things to go her own way when all she had to do was bend the truth a little
but at this moment, she only slightly wished she could be the person people saw her as when she walked down the halls at school: a genuinely preppy cheerleader
not the sneaky, lying bitch she actually was
“I mean-”
“what do you mean, y/n’s not dating anyone on the soccer team?”
jaemin didn’t know what to think, did you and hyuck break up again?
his heart stupidly fluttered with hope
“does it matter-” she tried to laugh it off
“yes, it does”
jaemin was starting to see in red, anger pouring into all his sense as he waited for mina’s explanation
“they... never got back together in the first place” she admitted, looking down at her hands in her lap
“so you lied?” jaemin asked, but he knew the answer
“yes, jaemin. I lied.”
jaemin couldn’t hear anymore of this, he stood up and walked out.
jaemin felt like a fool, he felt stupid- how could he trust mina’s words? how could he not hear about you and hyuck never getting back together?
for once jaemin’s anger dissipated and it turned into something else
a feeling that made it hard to breath and felt like his chest was caving in from the pain
he felt legitimate heartbreak
this time, jaemin can’t blame anyone but himself
this time, jaemin trusted a liar and he got played
he lost you, and it was all his own fault
jaemin spends the next few weeks in silent self-affliction and guilt
not even his friends could pull him out of the cavity he created for himself
one day after school was finished, jaemin made his way through the empty halls, like a mindless zombie walking down the stairs and out to the parking lot when someone tapped him on his backpack
it was the second to last person he thought would talk him right now
(read: you were THE last person he thought would talk to him right now)
it was hyuck
jaemin and hyuck both stand in the parking lot, wind whipping around them and tension growing as hyuck refuses to look up at jaemin and jaemin refuses to look anywhere but at hyuck
“listen... I know I have absolutely no right to stop you like this but there’s something I have to say” hyuck says, the anxiety of his words weighted down his whole body and he almost couldn’t see straight
jaemin raised his eyebrows in question and hyuck took it as an okay to continue
“I've known y/n for so long, almost four years. we’ve spent so much time together... but.. I never loved them. I tried so hard. I wanted I love them, I still wish I could, but I can’t find it in me. they deserve to be loved, jaemin.”
it was hard for hyuck to admit his true feelings about this situation, but he needed to say it out loud
and this was something jaemin needed to hear
“what is it that you need to say.” jaemin knew this wasn’t the point of this whole conversation
“they said they don’t need my love, and they really don’t. I won’t be able to treat them right, anyway. I don’t know how, but you managed to erase almost four years of my memories in their mind in only a few months and replace them with your own.” hyuck sighed
“My point is... don’t give up on them. it’s your love they need now.”
the next day, you opened your locker, an envelope falling to your feet.
‘broken hearts club room after school - j’
you scoffed, he couldn’t even come up to you in person to give you this?
you threw away the note in anger, but the invitation lingered in your mind all day and by the time the last bell of the day rang, your feet were itching to go up the stairs to the club room
you rounded the corner, down the hallway, and up the stairs to the club room, not really in control of your feet
you couldn’t believe that a few months ago, you were in the exact same position with jaemin just a few feet away.
you didn’t know him at all back then
you didn’t know he liked cherry cola, or pork, or that he danced like it was his reason for being put on earth
you didn’t know that he hated liars and that he truly did try to keep all his promises
and as you opened the door to the club room and watched as jaemin turned around to face you
you realized just how much you missed him, just how much you would do anything for him, just how much you loved him and you knew
it didn’t matter how many promises he makes, you would now believe every single one of them
jaemin was a bit surprised you showed up, but he wouldn't take you for granted any longer
“hey”
“hey” you surprisingly laughed, and jaemin came closer, dragging you down into a seat at one of the desks while he paced in front of it
you let him tell his side of the story- and jaemin was thankful you did, the fact that you didn’t know the reason behind his actions was killing him
you were surprised by his story- the miscommunications between you and him made both of you laugh and you stood up from your seat and walked up to jaemin, stopping him from wearing out the tile floors any longer
it was weird how you could laugh at the situation now, but jaemin need you to know how serious he was
“y/n... really... I'm sorry. I promised you so much when we got to know each other, knowing how you felt about promises and at the first test of trust... I broke them.”
you shake your head, gathered jaemin’s hands in yours and pulled him closer
“jaemin, this wasn’t your fault. don’t blame yourself” jaemin felt light, he couldn't believe you were real- right here, right now- forgiving him
“I promise” jaemin chuckled at his use of words “I’ll make it up to you.”
“oh? how are you gonna make it up to me?” you asked, curious as to what he had in mind
“I promise... I’m gonna love you until your heart is strong enough to never break again”
his words ringed out, loud and clear, filling you with hope and determination
you leaned in and pressed a kiss to Jaemin’s cheek, and when you leaned back to see jaemin’s reaction, the conviction in his eyes shined brightly
you both leaned in for a real kiss
a soft, pillowy, warm kiss that was the perfect new memory to start your relationship
jaemin promised he was going to love you
and you were going to believe him

Synopsis
“The Lost Princess” follows the story of Nick Sullivan, a girl that finds out, on her sixteenth birthday, that she is the daughter of a queen and is summoned to ascend to the throne as the princess of Combellmont island. She initiates, then, a difficult and dangerous journey that could put not only her life at risk as everyone’s she loves.
Chapter 1
What do I know about my mom? What a tough question. Besides all the biological processes I’ve learned in school, like genetics and stuff, I only know some physical characteristics: she was tall, the prettiest lady my father has ever known, and she smelled like mint. And that’s all I know because whenever I talked about her, my father always was already drunk and I needed to help him out and take him from his armchair to his bed.
I’ve never tried to pressure him in order to get information, though, since he always looked so ashamed of himself the next morning and I didn’t want to make him feel sad… Or make me sad. After all, the feelings I’ve grown towards my mom were migrating between sadness and anger. How could someone leave their child with some guy she’d only met once and then never tries to keep in touch? Okay, I was lucky enough that my dad was a cool guy and took me in, but this doesn’t make her less guilty at all.
I wonder if she ever wanted to know where her daughter could be for these past 15 years. If she has ever asked herself if I was okay, if I went to school, if my dad treated me nicely… Nothing? Then, after a while, I started to believe that she never loved me. That I was a mistake she made during a U2 concert after tons of beer and that I didn’t matter to her.
I got up from my bed and decided not to think about her. The less I knew, the less it would hurt, and today I was supposed to be happy, right? Because it was my sixteenth birthday. “Happy Birthday, Nick”, I said to myself. My dad was surely still asleep and I would only see him at night.
“Oh, crap!” twenty minutes late meant that I was late to school and this would be my third time this month. I ran as fast as I could and was able to catch the bus. Luckly, the driver was George and he always stopped for me, even when I was running late.
           “Andy again, Nick?” he asked.
I nodded, not wanting to talk about it. Third delay of the month… This would make me stay in school after class and then I would be late for work at Tiffany&Thommy, which would not please Miss Picket. Will “I’m so so sorry, but today is my birthday and everything is nuts” work as an excuse? No. Everyone in town knew me and my dad, so it was known that whenever I was late it was because of him.
George offered me a little red box with a white bow wrapping it around and a tiny card. “Hey, you didn’t think I'd forget, did you?”
“George, you shouldn’t have! Thanks” I thanked and my cheeks turned red while I was getting the present, in a mist of hurry and happiness (after all, I was already late and he had taken his time to hand in the present despite knowing everyone was waiting to carry on the trip!).
“That’s nothing, Nick. Tomorrow, tell me if you liked it. Have a great day and a happy birthday!”
I thanked again while I started to look for a seat. The real bus to Abeley High School was deactivated because no one used it. Most of the students didn’t need to use public transportation since they had their own cars or chauffeurs, and so every single day I had to take the only bus that drove all the way to my school, when, in reality, it dropped me off two blocks away.  After spending a whole life in Abeley, I was already used to it, but I wished - as if I was about to blow my birthday cake candles - this year I’d get a car. Or that at least my dad would accept that I should start to study at the school he now works at.
I got up when we were getting closer to the stop and hurried up while going down the stairs, and ran to school.
Yeah, I was definitely late. And obviously I had to face Mr. William, after going to the principal’s office. I smiled bluntly, and then tried to sneak into his class.
“Oh, Nicolle! I can’t believe someone hasn’t given you a clock yet. I mean, we have been starting the classes at the same time since 1864, and yet…”
I heard my entire class smothering a laughter as I gave Mr. William the piece of paper that allowed me to take his class, which was prior given to me by the principal, and, then, I went to my desk.
Today’s history class was about smaller islands and countries all over the world. Internally, I kept telling myself that there was no use to learning all of that, once we lived in a small city closer to New York, so that subject should have been self-explanatory to us and, even though Abeley should be a school for rich people, the greatest part of us, including me, would never travel abroad. Like ever. Let alone stepping on a small island somewhere that was probably built to make money from tourists. Whatever. Mr. William had already had his moment of glory today and I didn’t need a lecture anyways, so I decided to loosen my hair and put on my earphones again, as I kept pretending that I was paying attention.
Everyone’s goal in Abeley was to get into an Ivy League and, for the unlucky ones like me, the ultimate goal was to get a scholarship or a way out of this town. It felt weird not knowing what to do or what I’d like to become, but when people ask me about what I would like to be when I grow up, I used to lie and say I’d like to become a lawyer. Knowing my dad’s behavior, it would make total sense and that was enough to get me out of that subject during conversations, after being told that I should “hang in there” in order to become what I used to say.
The truth was that it would be enough if I turned eighteen and convinced my father that we should leave this town or state. To build a new life in which we weren’t pity case or a subject to gossip spreaders.
Tiffany&Thommy was a library and bookstore two blocks away from my school. It used to be owned by two brothers who have lived here since the city was founded, and I was a part-timer there. After Mr. Thommy Picket’s death, his sister needed help and I offered myself, as I needed money because my dad’s salary as a Spanish teacher was not something we could brag about.
I apologized for being late to Miss Picket and she (with her always pleasing humor) told me to find my computer and sit down before her nephew could find the cash register and steal everything they’ve made so far, like he did last month,
“Good evening, Nick. Are you early again?” I hear Rupert saying with his annoying British accent. He was sitting on my chair, staring at me with his weird brown eyes and dark hair.
“Yes, Rupert. And thank you for keeping my seat warm. Now you can go.” The best solution with him was to use irony and sarcasm. After all, wanting or not, he was the future owner of that store and his aunt wasn’t looking that good anyway.
“I don’t know why my aunt keeps you here. Or why did she hire you in the first place.”
“Your aunt knows me since I was born, we live in the same neighborhood and she trusts me.” I was as rough as possible and then started to browse through the record book on the decrepit computer.
He kept there, looking at what I was doing, as he was laying on the counter. I waited until he left for five minutes, but I was never known for my patience.
“So? Do you want a book or something?” I asked, trying to smile.
“Not really.” he replied and kept staring at me. Then, he nodded and left.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm down, while I watched him leave.
On my way home, I decided to open the present given by George when I was already on the bus. It was a little pendant shaped like a heart. Those in which you can put a picture on both sides. I loved it. I’m going to choose a picture of me and my dad, I thought as I got off the bus.
The weather was terrible as always and the fog made me put on my hood. When I was close to my building, I saw a man wearing a suit leaving and getting in a luxury black car that was parked on the other side of the street. I had no idea someone in town had something to do with the White House, I thought, trying not to laugh as I passed by the lobby.
The elevator was, once again, being fixed and it would take at least forty-eight hours return, so I went up the stairs hearing some of my neighbors complaining about the elevator like that would fix it faster.
After finding my keys, I saw my dad sitting on his armchair that, this time, was facing the door. He looked more tired and sadder than usual and was holding a letter.
“Dad?” I called, leaving my backpack in the hall and getting closer to him.
“Oh, Nick, you’re here” he answered and I could see that his eyes looked swollen and red. He has cried. I sighed and looked at the table, but I didn’t see any beer bottles there.
“What happened?”
“I need to talk to you. And I ordered pizza, so you don’t need to cook today. Change your clothes and take a bath, I know you must be tired.”
“That’s okay, dad. I’m fine” I claimed, feeling a little bit afraid.
He didn’t say anything else, just stood up and went to his room. I kept staring at him while he closed the door.
Ordering pizza on my birthday was almost a habit, but the conversation part… I started to bite my upper lip and picked up my backpack on the floor, but refused to take a bath. I felt nervous and anxious and waited to hear if his bedroom door would open so that I could leave mine.
When I left, he was in the living room. He had opened and served himself with a pizza slice and soda. He looked a little better as he smiled, so I sat down.
“Happy birthday, kiddo.” It was all he said, giving me a sad smile. We started to eat after that.
After I finished, I felt like something bad was about to happen and I realized he was looking at me, God knows for how long, and that the letter he was previously holding was still there, in his hand. I stopped and looked at him, wanting to know for how long he would stare without saying anything.
A couple minutes had passed, but it felt like an eternity to me. Then, he finally started:
“Nick, did I talk about your mom yesterday?”
I took a deep breath and felt a little bit relieved to realize that it wasn’t something that important after all. I was used to that kind of conversation, even though it made me sad, since he usually stood up for her in the end.
“Yes, dad, but just the usual, you know, blond, tall, smelled like mint” I remembered while I was taking my dish and got up.
“Nicolle, sit down, please” he stared at me with his blue eyes and it looked like it was an order.
I had no idea what was going on, but if it was serious enough for my dad to boss me around…
“Okay.” I agreed, sitting down again.
He looked like he was trying to control himself so that he could continue his speech.
“Nick, you know your mom handed you in when you were only six months, right?” he asked and I nodded, leaning on the couch. “Child, what I have to say is serious and I need you to handle it until the very end.”
He paused. The pizza I ate started to move around in my stomach, bothering me.
“Your mom didn’t leave you here because she wanted to, but because she needed to keep you away from the place she lived in. She had to leave you here, with me, so that I could take care of you and make you a good person. When I met her, we spent the whole week together. She told me about her world and I realized it wasn’t easy. Our story wasn’t just a concert and a single night, and I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you sooner. Actually, I’m sorry about everything I have to tell you today… You can’t imagine how much it hurts to tell everything like this. But the point is: she loved you, as much as I do love you. And last week, I discovered that unfortunately your mom has passed away.” He told me with every strength he had, even though he let some tears roll down his cheeks, which he cleaned fast. Then, he took a box from the table, one I haven’t seen before, opened it and showed me everything that was inside.
“I thought that it wasn't a good idea to tell you, dear. You always seemed hurt about your mom, but, then, today I received a message and now I have no other choice but to tell you the truth. The man that came here earlier wanted to wait for you, but I begged him to let me speak with you first. I needed to tell you the whole story. You’ve probably already studied about Europe and must know that there are a lot of small countries there. Your mom lived in one of those countries. Actually, your mom ruled one of them. When I met her, she had just received a convocation to claim the throne of Combellmont and, like any 18-year-old girl, she wanted… An adventure before her real life began. Like in the romances she used to read.
“We met when I went to live in New York. She came on a trip, running away from her hotel, and we met in the middle of Central Park. It was love at first sight and we had the best week in the world. Nine days, to be exact, but she always needed to go back and sleep at the hotel, so I left her on the street corner so that the guard that escorted her would be aware of me. Until the last day, when her sister saw and denounced us. She was grounded after that and I got beaten up by her guards. And well, I thought I’d never see her again, so needless to say it was a surprise when she came back, fifteen months later, knocking on my old Brooklyn apartment with you in her arms. She asked me to take care of you, keeping you safe and sound, away from her world. She asked me to give you a normal life until the day she would come back and explain everything. That she would do it once you turned 18… I wished she had time to do that…
“Ever since, I could only watch you grow and kept collecting everything that I saw about her. Her marriage with an ambassador that was twice her age, her coronation as queen, the birth to her first child for the media, the death of her husband and, most recently, her own death, not long after giving birth to her second child. Oh, Nick, I would have loved to tell you all of this at the right time, but it so happens that you need to know it now. This afternoon, your mom’s kingdom counselor came in and brought this letter to you. You see: with her death, it would be pleasing if her oldest royal child ascended to the throne, but she’s only a kid! And as you are, in fact, the oldest of them all… They demand you there for some kind of training. And, being crystal clear: you are obligated to do this, or they will appeal to judicial measures to make you do it anyway. They can even take you by force, Nick.”            After hearing all of that, I ran to the bathroom. My head was spinning, my face was wet with sweat and tears, and I wanted to throw up every slice of pizza I ate. My dad didn’t even dare to chase me, he just let me go.
I was overwhelmed, to say the least. My head was exploding with the wave of information I’ve received and I’ve never been so shocked in my entire life. I don’t know how long I’ve stayed there, hiding, puking, crying. I was hugging my knees against my chest, just hearing my heartbeats. How come my life turned upside down in less than one hour? My mom, a queen. Country, children, baby, my dad, kingdom… Those words were spinning in my head and making me dizzy. How come my father hid everything from me? How come my mom found it better that way? And, mainly, what was I supposed to do now? I had no clue how someone could actually obligate me to do something, after all, besides taking care of my father and the house, I’ve never had to lead, or been a leader.

“Control” Steve Harrington x reader
Steve Harrington - Control Janet Jackson
Not requested
First time I fell in love, I didn't know what hit me So young and so naive, I thought it would be easy
August 1982
“I don’t understand how you like this stuff!” I roll over to sit up on Jonathan Byers bed. “How do you not? It’s so easy to move to, he has a nice voice, don’t even get me started on his dancing!” He looks up from his workbook with an incredulous look. “Y/N, I get it, you’re a dancer. But seriously? Michael Jackson? I thought I taught you better than that.” I shrug, “Well, I happen to like Disco and Hip-Hop. Not everyone could like The Clash, or else they wouldn’t be so indie.” We sit and study, or at least try to. We eventually migrate next to each other, hands intertwined. Everything felt simple then.
November 1983
Will had gone missing. Jonathan was up all hours of the night looking for him, and for some reason Nancy would always happen to be around. “Hey Jon, you wanna watch a movie tonight? I think we both need to destress.” He looks back at me, dazed and confused. “What? Yeah, sure.” He turns to look back at someone across the lunchroom. As I follow his gaze, no one but Nancy Wheeler ducks her head down, not wanting to get caught. Everything in me sinks at the realization, but I smile at him anyways.
It’s been hours since movie night was supposed to start, and Jonathan had still not shown up. Sighing, I put away all of the snacks I had prepared, put the tape back in the box, turned off the TV, and went to bed, crying myself to sleep. The next morning, I don’t see Jonathan or Nancy until second period. I watch them silently communicate across rooms or hallways, Jonathan disappears at her signal, leaving me alone during lunch most days if not all. As Jonathan leaves again, not even bothering with an excuse this time, I break. I gather my things and blink away the tears, heading to the library for peace and quiet. I cry in a secluded corner of the library, muffling my whimpers with my hand. How am I going to fix this?
October 1884
Jonathan didn’t want to go to this party. I didn’t want to go to this party. But Nancy wanted to go to this party. She wanted Jonathan to go to this party. That’s how I ended up dressed as Stevie Nicks, all in black and hair big. I had grabbed a soda, wanting to stay sober and keeping my mind in the right place. I watch Nancy and Steve have an argument, resulting in her white blouse to stain red. I had lost Jonathan not long after we arrived, choosing to people watch instead of looking for him. Feeling claustrophobic over the amount of bodies in the main room, I head outside. I watch the new guy do a keg stand for a surprising amount of time, and observe the costumed teens mill about the lawn. By the time I re-enter the house, Nancy is gone, and I’m done partying. I bump into a wall of a person in the hall, looking up at none other than Steve “The Hair” Harrington. “What are you still doing here? I thought you were taking Nancy home?” Rolling his eyes he leans against the wall. “Yeah, I thought I was too, until your boyfriend did it for me.” I gasp, hurt filling my chest. “Oh. Ok, cool. I guess I’m walking home tonight. Guess I should probably get started then if my ride is gone.” As I turn to walk out the door once again, Steve grabs my wrist. “No, there’s no reason for that. I’ll take you home. I mean we both get fucked over, might as well be hospitable to each other.” Nodding, I mutter “I need a drink. Fuck being sober.”
I take another sip of “Pure Fuel” as Springsteen blasts through the stereo system. I felt the buzz kick in as I move out to the living area. As a bass and drum heavy song comes on I feel a grip on my hips. I throw my head back to see the offender, coming face to face with the “New Keg King”. I shout “Can I help you?” over the music with a raised eyebrow. Leaning in, he says into my ear, “I’m hoping you can sweetheart.” Ok, if that’s how he wants to play, then let’s play. I swivel my hips hard against him, his grip tightening. I smirk and grip the back of his neck and his left hand on my hip. Spinning in his arms, we face each other. We keep dancing together, intertwined in a sweaty mess. He moves us against the wall, leaning to nibble at my neck. I catch Steve’s eye, and he holds up his keys, time to go. Rolling my eyes, I push the keg king off of me. “Well, I’ve had so much fun sweetheart, but I’ve got to go. Have a nice night.” As I walk away, I feel his gaze burn into my backside. Linking my arm with Steve, I ask: “Alright big boy, where to?” We get in the car, and I rest against the window, the buzz wearing off, leaving exhaustion behind. I tell him where I live, and fall asleep. I wake-up slightly at him opening my door, and he picks me up. “Parents aren’t home. Key under the mat.” He gets the door open unexpectedly easily. “What room?” Cuddling further into his chest, I grumble, “Upstairs, third door on the left.” I once again doze off, not waking until morning.
When I was 17 I did what people told me Did what my father said, and let my mother mold me
Summer 1985
“Y/N, you need to get a job. How are you going to get a car? Or pay for college? Your mother and I are not always going to be here for you.” I nod at my father's words. “Yes Sir.” My mother opens her mouth to give her two cents in. “Oh, Y/N, before you go, let me help you with your make-up today. You always have to be presenting yourself, you want to make me proud, don’t you?” I look down at my plate, nodding, and take another bite of my waffle. “Oh, and Y/N, maybe we can start a diet. Don’t want an embarrassing figure now honey.” Pushing the offending food around my plate, I respond “Yes Ma’am.”
I'm in Control - Never gonna stop. Control - To get what I want. Control - I like to have a lot. Control - Now I'm all grown up
I ended up getting the job at Scoops Ahoy, much to my Mothers chargain. “Y/N, are you sure you can control yourself around so much sweets? I just don’t want you to get any bigger than you already are.” Desperate to prove my mother wrong, I eat salads every meal, run the mall during my breaks, and always make sure my make-up is immaculate. I squeeze into the uniform my mother demanded I get in a small. It miraculously fits my waist snugly, but pulls at my hips, and rides high on my thighs. The shirt is short and tight around my torso, making it uncomfortable when teenage boys stop by only on my shift, doing everything in their power to stay at the counter and oggle what the uniform brings attention to. One of them grows brave and leans over the counter, “Did you sit in a bowl of sugar? Because it looks like you’ve got a pretty sweet ass.” I turn red in embarrassment, cursing my mother for my “blessings” and her insistence on the overly tight uniform. As I do my best to deflect their eyes and serve them as fast as possible, Steve comes out of the back, his shift starting. His eyes flicker between my red face and the boys ogling his co-worker. He pushes me behind him as he confronts the boys. “Alright guys, how can I help you? Our U.S.S Butterscotch is really good, and two scoops will only cost you a buck. So what’ll it be? Oh, and Y/N, Robin needs you in the back.” I open my mouth to protest, but he just nudges me towards the door. Reaching the back, I look at Robin. “Steve said you needed me?” Her eyebrows scrunch together. “What? No, I haven’t even talked to Steve today.”
                     .
We all sit in the bathroom, bloody and bruised. Talking about random shit. Parents end up being brought up in the conversation. “Ugh, my parents want to control me. My dad wants me to be an adult, and my mother wants me to be just like her. She made me get that stupid uniform in a small, she wants me to do my make-up dark and perfect, she wants me to be the skinniest girl out there. I bet she wishes I was made out of clay so she could mold me exactly how she wants me to be.” Robin mutters “My parents just want me to get a boyfriend. Like that’s going to happen.” We both turn to her. “What does that mean?” Blinking, she realizes what she said. “Oh, uh, I like girls. I don’t like boys like that.” I grimace as I scoot closer to her, taking her hand. “Thank you for feeling comfortable enough to tell us that. Just do you know, you’re not missing out on much. Guys are bullshit.” Steve shouts a “Hey!” at my accusation, but I give him a look that says “Seriously? Be honest with yourself.” He raises his hands in surrender and turns towards me. “Alright, why didn’t you want anyone to get close to you when you first started working here?” I swallow thickly, thinking through my answer. “Everyone else has been in control of what happens in my life for so long, I wanted to take that control back. I thought, if there was no one to try to take control, I would never have to lose control. Stupid I know.” They both shake their heads at my answer, just sitting in peaceful silence until Dustin bursts in the door. “Guys, we’ve got to go.”
After this is all over, Steve takes me home like he did almost a year ago. I rest against his window, sleeping off my injuries. I wake up as the car stops, but it's not outside my house. “Steve? Where are we? This isn’t my house.” Putting the car in park, he turns back to me. “No, it’s not. It’s my house, thought it would be easier to get you patched up and rested here than getting you home and needing to explain it to your parents. You can call them and tell them you’re with Robin or something.” I go to stand and walk into the house, but my legs give out. Steve picks me up from off the ground and carries me into the house. We patch each other up, band-aids here, ice packs there. We spend the night watching cheesy tape after cheesy tape, neither wanting to sleep and see the nightmares under our eyelids. As we both doze off, too exhausted to stay awake any longer, I feel Steve kiss my forehead and whisper “You talk about wanting control, but you’ve had control over me since Halloween.”

We Have To Stop Meeting Like This - Chapter 8
holy shit??? i finally did it??? i finished this chapter??? amazing. since there are so many chapters now i’m just going to start linking the fic on ao3 instead of linking all the posts separately. i hope that’s okay. now, without further ado, here is the update:
--------
“Hey, I didn’t think you’d answer.”
On the other line of the phone came the blasting sounds from a video game as someone shot a simulated gun. “Why?” Cardan asked. It sounded like he had his cell on speaker phone. “Cause it’s one in the morning?”
Jude couldn’t help herself--she rolled her eyes even though he wasn’t there to see it. “No, Cardan, because I thought both of your hands had been gnawed off by a giant rat. Of course because it’s almost one o’clock.”
There was uproarious laughter--deep and male--from the other end that didn’t sound like Cardan’s laugh. His roommate, probably. But if he had heard her, that confirmed her theory about being on speaker.
“First of all,” Cardan’s amused voice cut through the laughter. “The only rat that would be big enough to best me in a fight is an R.O.U.S from The Princess Bride and they don’t actually exist. And second of all, darling, I’m a nocturnal creature, so of course I’m awake to answer your late night booty calls. Now what can I do for you?” Machine gun fire continued in the background from his end, joined with shouting from Cardan’s roommate to “watch out, dude, watch out! damnit now you’re dead. way to go, geezer.”
“I just,” Jude began but quickly cut off, unsure of how to proceed knowing that someone else was listening in on their conversation--even if he was clearly wrapped up in whatever violent video game the two boys seemed to be playing. “Um…”
“Hang on, Jude.” There was some mumbling from his end as words were exchanged, then a click like a door being closed, and suddenly the game’s noises were gone and Cardan’s voice was closer. He had taken her off speaker. “Okay I’m alone now, sorry. Is everything okay?”
“I just,” Jude started again and trailed off once more. “I can’t sleep.”
It had been almost a week since her last seizure. A week since Cardan broke down her door to find her on the floor laying in her own blood. Six days since Madoc hired someone to fix the girls’ door, five days since Madoc ordered Jude to move back home until they could get her seizures back under control, and two days since Vivi finally helped Jude convince their father to let her stay in her own apartment. The last week had been exhausting and yet Jude was restless. She would be lying if she said she wasn’t scared after what had happened.
“Do you want me to come over?” Cardan offered helpfully, and the sincerity of his offer nearly brought tears to Jude’s eyes.
“No,” she admitted. “No, I want… out. I don’t want to be here right now.”
“Where do you want to be?”
“I don’t actually know.”
A brief silence washed over them, interrupted only by the sound of Taryn’s cat meowing from somewhere in the apartment. Finally, Cardan said, “I’m on my way to pick you up.”
--------
The first thing Jude noticed when she got into Cardan's car was his wild hair. The perpetually messy curls were somehow even more unkempt than usual. The second thing she noticed was that Cardan was wearing sweatpants that fit him in a very pleasing way underneath a hoodie that some primal part of her begged to steal from him. The third thing she noticed was his smirk at her noticing him.
"Good evening," Cardan said in a mockery of a stereotypical vampire voice.
"What, are you Dracula now?" Jude teased.
"I think I'd be more of a faerie than a vampire, actually."
"Then why the vampire voice?"
"Jude Duarte: ever the critic."
"Spare me.” Jude tugged the seatbelt across her body and buckled it with some effort--the buckle itself was coated in a sticky substance that was likely spilled soda. She hoped it was soda. “Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise."
"Cardan--"
"I promise there's not immediate danger to your person, if that's what you're worried about. Just trust me?"
Jude searched Cardan's face for any trace of deceit but came up empty. Hesitantly, she nodded her assent. Satisfied, Cardan put the car into gear and drove down the street like a person who decidedly deserved to have their license revoked. At Jude's surprised shriek, he laughed, earning himself a scowl from Jude.
"I thought you said there was no immediate danger to my person," she said.
"I just floored the gas a bit, it's not like I ran a red light into oncoming traffic."
"You really are such a terrible driver, you know that?" Jude asked once Cardan had stopped laughing. Instead of a verbal response, Cardan reached for the volume nob on the radio and turned his music up to deafening volumes. As he had done before in the car, Cardan began singing along to the words--the sound more shouting than singing--as he occasionally looked over to Jude to sing parts of the lyrics to her. His face was so openly happy and carefree that something in Jude’s chest tugged on her like a line trying to reel her into him. Watching his lips form the words made her want to kiss him. Hearing his terrible singing made her want to join in. Watching the streetlights flash across his face made her feel free, alive, happy. Her mind told her heart that she was right where she was supposed to be.
The song changed and Cardan flashed a grin over to her but soon frowned at whatever expression was on her face. Quickly, he spun the volume back down to near silence and asked Jude ever so gently, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” she croaked. Really, nothing should have been wrong, but her chest was aching in a way she couldn’t place. It was the sort of feeling of being happy but fearing it at the same time--a fear that it would end. “Can I play a song?”
Cardan looked as if he didn’t quite believe her answer to his question but nevertheless waved a hand to his phone on the dash in permission for her to pick it up. A cursory search through his music library showed her mostly alternative rock and pop music and loud punk songs, but in his playlists she found one with a promising title of “Chill Music.” She also found a playlist with her name on it. Jude pretended not to see it, even though her heart skipped a beat, and instead clicked on the first playlist.
Khalid started playing through the speakers as Cardan turned into an unlit parking lot in front of a chain of mostly darkened store-fronts. The stereo continued to play even after the car was shut off before finally turning off completely when Cardan crawled into the backseat and opened a functioning door to get out of his crap car. He came around to her side of the car and opened the door for her, holding his hand out to her like some fairytale prince asking a princess for a dance instead of a boy in a dark parking lot on a late night outing in his sweats who had also just clambered around his own car like a jungle-gym.
“Shall we?” He asked. Jude rolled her eyes at his dramatics--eliciting a laugh from Cardan--but accepted his hand and allowed him to guide her out of his car.
“Are you ever going to get your dented front bumper fixed?” Jude asked when her eyes caught on the evidence of their first meeting. She was surprised that even after all that time had passed he still hadn’t taken his car into a body shop. He clearly had the money for it. “Or your door, for that matter?”
“Nah, it pisses my dad off that I’m ruining the car.”
“Makes me wonder if you crash it on purpose,” Jude teased.
“Maybe I do,” Cardan admitted flippantly, his voice at odds with whatever flashed in his eyes. “I do a lot of reckless shit. But crashing into you truly was an accident, in case you're wondering. Now, let’s go inside before all my precious fingers fall off. It’s cold out here.”
"Are you going to tell me where we're going now?"
"Well there's only one place still open right now," Cardan said, indicating with his hand one of the only lit buildings in front of them. A half burnt out sign above the doors proclaimed the place to be Ginkgo Garden and the smell of Chinese food drifted through the air. Jude inhaled deeply and looked to Cardan for confirmation of food in her near future. He smiled softly before offering her his hand to hold. Somehow, in the dark, it seemed like no big deal to hold onto him. She took his hand and they strode towards the restaurant.
“Why are they still open?” She wondered aloud. Beside her, Cardan shrugged.
“We’re in a college town and they do late night deliveries to the panicked students trying to cram everything into their brain at once?” He suggested.
“Makes sense.”
Inside the front doors they were blasted with a rush of hot air coming from an unseen heater in the ceiling. Jude welcomed it and, beside her, Cardan shivered one final time as if to shake the cold from his body for good. He released her hand to pull open the second set of inner doors for her, and Jude tried not to mourn the loss of his hand in hers. The restaurant's interior greeted them with green chairs and wallpaper patterned with mandarin trees. Soft music played softly over the sound of clinking dishes coming from the kitchen. Other than the young man standing behind a counter to the left of the door, no one appeared to be in the front house of the restaurant. Cardan exchanged familiar greetings with the smiling guy at the counter as Jude further took in the beautiful and elaborate decorations all over the place. It felt more like a home inside than a restaurant with its cramped but lovingly decorated space. Behind her, Cardan and the man kept chatting like old friends and Jude wondered just how often Cardan came here.
“Jude, this is Harry,” Cardan interjected into her train of thought, confirming her suspicion that he was a regular here. “Harry, this is Jude.”
“Hey, nice to meet you,” Harry smiled at her with so much genuine warmth that for a moment Jude was caught off guard by the open kindness from a total stranger. On its own accord her face seemed to smile back, but something told her it came out a bit more like a grimace. Cardan grinned at her and turned a conspiratorial grin towards Harry.
“I’m afraid Jude doesn’t smile much,” he said.
“You’re such a dick,” Jude remarked.
“She does, however,” Cardan continued, “say sweet nothings such as that to me all the time.”
Jude rolled her eyes as the two boys chuckled and decided it was best to tune them out. When her efforts proved fruitless (Cardan had proceeded to start listing all the “wondrous, heartfelt names” that Jude had “very fondly” called him since they had met for Harry to laugh at in increasing volumes as the names got more creative) Jude caught sight of a sign near the back that read "Bathrooms" with an arrow pointing in the wrong direction. Over her shoulder she caught eyes with Cardan long enough for an exchange of nods--one from her indicating where she’d be and one from him acknowledging that he understood--then ducked into the single stall restroom and locked the door behind her. Sounds from outside the small room reached her through the thick door as if from underwater. Everything sounded distorted and far away. Though she could hear the undertone of Cardan’s voice, all distinct words were drowned out, leaving behind only a melodic quality to his speech. She loosed a heavy sigh and turned so her back was against the door. From this new perspective, she caught sight of herself in the mirror.
She liked to think that the mirror was hung unusually high but knew the reality was that she was too short to see her reflection below her shoulders. In the mirror she could see the dark circles under her eyes as evidence of her sleepless nights. Not for the first time, she wondered what Cardan saw when he looked at her. Did he see the girl in armor or the girl beneath it? Was she pretty to him? Or were her edges too sharp?
Jude tore her gaze away from her reflection and stepped forward to the sink where she turned her attention to the drain instead. As if on autopilot, she absently reached out to turn the sink handle, cupped some cool water into her palms, and gently splashed it onto her face. Droplets of water ran down her arms into her rolled-up sleeves as she allowed herself to stand there for a moment with her hands covering her face. Finally, she took a deep breath, snatched a paper towel from the dispenser, dried herself off, and walked out of the bathroom to find Cardan playing on his phone at one of the tables.
“All good?” He asked.
“Yeah, I got an eyelash in my eye and needed to rinse it out.” The lie came easily, but then again they always did.
“I ordered some food to go, Harry just ran back to get it for us. I was thinking we could take it back to my place and watch TV? I’ll even let you pick the show, as long as you don’t pick something that sucks.”
“Says the guy that watches Criminal Minds,” Jude teased, falling back into their easy banter.
“Hey,” Cardan pointed an accusatory finger in her face as she sank into the chair opposite him and she batted it away like an annoying gnat. “Criminal Minds,” Cardan continued regardless, “is interesting. It’s interesting to me how someone can be so fucked up to do the things they do.”
“And why do you do the things you do, Cardan?”
“Because my family didn’t want me so now I must act up to get attention.”
“See? That didn’t take fourteen seasons to explain.”
Just as Cardan made to reply, the kitchen door opened to reveal Harry carrying a large brown bag. Cardan stood and took the food, goodbyes were exchanged, and then Jude and Cardan were walking back into the cold. Before the doors closed all the way, Harry’s voice called out, “It was nice meeting you Jude!” and she waved over her shoulder and tried for a real-looking smile this time. When she turned back around, Cardan was standing with the passenger side door open for her.
“You know I can get my own doors, right?” She said with no real heat behind it.
“Yes, well, I keep getting to the doors before you and it seems foolish to stand and wait for you to open them for me.”
“I hate you, do you know that?”
“You’re lying. Do you know that?” Cardan grinned his wicked grin and Jude considered stomping on his toes. Instead, she got in the car. Cardan jogged over to his side of the car and pointed at the window controls as a request for Jude to roll it down for him. She shook her head in mockery, pretending not to understand what he was asking. Cardan gave her a withering look and mouthed at her to roll down the window. With her left hand she reached over for the controls and locked the doors.
“Jude,” Cardan groaned through the glass barrier as Jude began to laugh. “C’mon, my balls are freezing off.”
“Fine, fine.” She unlocked the car. Cardan glared at her and Jude continued to laugh.
Finally the sight of him shivering out in the cold, as well as the beginnings of a snow storm drifting through the air, became too pitiful and Jude rolled down the driver’s side window for Cardan to crawl through. Immediately his hands reached for the heater and he turned to her with a scowl as she laughed.
“I so want to be mad,” Cardan said as he reached into the backseat to set the bag of food onto the leather backseat, “but your laugh is distracting me.”
“I’ll stop laughing then,” Jude replied, trying to school her features into a more serious expression. The efforts sent her into a laughing fit again.
“No,” Cardan said softly. His lips curled up into a small smile while he watched her. “Don’t stop. I like your laugh.”
At his confession, Jude’s laughter finally petered out. The sudden silence in the car felt deafening as the two of them sat at stared at each other. The air felt charged with--something. All Jude knew was that if she didn’t look away now, her feelings were going to overwhelm her.
She looked away.
Cardan cleared his throat as Jude played with the hem of her jacket. Neither of them spoke as he turned on the car, connected the bluetooth on his phone to the stereo. Not a glance was exchanged as the music started up again and Cardan turned to look through the rearview window to back the car out of the parking lot. When the car pulled up to the third stoplight in a row, Cardan broke the awkward silence.
“Do you want me to take you home?”
“No,” Jude whispered. “No, I’m sorry. I’m just…”
“It’s okay.”
Jude resumed fiddling with the hem of her jacket as the streetlight washed over them in green and the car proceeded with its progress down the road.
“I’m scared,” Jude found herself saying.
“I can take you home,” Cardan offered again softly, looking over at her with those dark eyes that she could so easily drown in.
“Not of you,” Jude said. “Just… this whole… seizure thing has had me messed up lately.”
“Understandably so.” Though he still looked concerned, Cardan seemed to have relaxed slightly at her words.
“I mean… What were you thinking?” Jude continued.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean,” Jude started, then stopped abruptly. “I mean what were you thinking when I called you? When you found me just laying there? Were you thinking ‘oh god she’s so pathetic’ or--”
“Jude,” Cardan interrupted, stopping her words with a gentle hand placed over her knee. “Please don’t ever think that I’d feel like that.”
“Then what were you thinking?” Until now Jude hadn’t noticed the moisture in her eyes. She tried to hold the tears back, but Cardan noticed them anyway and pulled over onto the side of the road. As the car rolled to a complete stop, all of Jude’s emotions finally poured over and she was crying, she was crying, she was crying. Distantly she registered Cardan’s fingers brushing against the backs of her hands. He asked a question, asked if it was alright to touch her, and took her hands in his when she nodded. Gingerly, he cradled her hands in his. Reached out to wipe away the streams of tears rolling down her cheek. Whispered to her until his voice finally reached her and she began to calm down. His thumb was rubbing soft circles into the back of her hand as his other hand trailed gently through the hair framing her face. Slowly, slowly, Jude came back to herself, back to the car, back to him. She forced herself to look into his eyes because the only other option was to let the shame of her tears consume her. In his eyes, though, was only a gentle understanding. Any judgement or disgust she may have expected was missing from his gaze. The Cardan sitting in front of her was so far away from the Cardan that she had met when he rear-ended her, or the Cardan she had ran into at Valerian’s stupid party. The Cardan in front of her was without armor and she longed to take off her own.
“Do you really want to know what I was thinking?” He asked her gently. Jude nodded, unable to speak. Instead of answering right away, Cardan looked down to where he still held her hand and watched his own fingers draw circles on her skin. His voice cracked when he tried to speak. "When you called me…. when you called me, I had some joke ready to make you laugh or call me a jackass or roll your eyes at me. But then I answered and you didn't say anything at first and I knew something was wrong. I know you don't remember, but I do. You said help. Just help, that was all, but you sounded so scared and my heart started beating out of my chest. I asked you where you were three times before you were finally able to tell me you were at home and then you were completely silent. I drove like a bat out of hell to get to you, pushing the speed limit by 20 in some areas and daring the cops to pull me over, because there was no way in hell I would stop for anything. I was on the phone with you the whole time, just hoping you'd say something else, anything else, but you never did. I got to your place and… you wouldn't answer the door, Jude.” He looked up at her, his eyes glazed over. “I have never in my life been that afraid or that desperate to get to someone. So I broke the door in. I didn't even know I could do that,” Cardan laughed without humor and turned his eyes to look through the windshield. “I was just so goddamn panicked. And then I saw you there, and you were crying, and that was the only way I knew you weren't dead. There was so much blood, Jude. And you weren't moving. And all I could think was ‘I can’t lose her. I can’t lose this girl that makes me feel like I’m more than the fuck-up my family has always seen me as. This girl that makes me feel safe enough to laugh without cruelty, who smiles so rarely but so brightly, who calls me a jackass even though her eyes seem to be begging to say something else. I can’t lose this girl when I’m just finally getting to know her.’ All I could think about, Jude…” When he looked at her this time, it was his eyes full of tears. “Was that you had to be okay. Because I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t.”
Was she crying again? Instinctively Jude’s hand tightened around his and she cradled his hands like he had done to hers. She didn’t know what to say, didn’t know if there was anything to say. She felt useless as Cardan gathered himself back together without a word from her, but then he brought her knuckles to his lips and brushed a kiss across her skin.
“Thanks,” she whispered lamely. “For saving me.”
“Sorry for breaking your door.”
“I didn’t like it, anyway.”
Cardan laughed, but it was a shadow of his usual one.
--------
At midnight Jude awoke having to pee. Yuri On Ice still played quietly on the television that washed the room in a soft blue light. Empty containers of Chinese food were spread haphazardly around them on the comforter. Cardan was sprawled out on his bed beside her, mouth open slightly as soft noises of sleep escaped him. At the sight of his peaceful face Jude stopped to look at him for a moment. The planes of his face looked softer in sleep--his cheekbones and jawline less like they could cut her heart to pieces, his beautiful mouth so invitingly soft and begging for her to make them smile. And those beautiful black curls of his were a halo on the pillow. He was so heart-achingly beautiful.
She thought she might love him.
The revaluation jolted her out of bed and she rushed to the bathroom while her heart jackhammered in her chest. With the bathroom door closed and safely separating them, Jude tried to reason with her own racing thoughts. Love was a complicated thing. Love was a distant memory that came with her mother spinning her around in her arms and sticky fingers from popsicles and chasing her father around the living room when he snatched her blanket from her. Love was something she chased to get from Madoc, something she found late at night curled in bed with her sisters as they laughed to hide their shared heartbreak, something the morning light seemed to wash away once reality set back in. Love was something that could die, and the thought of losing Cardan hit her like a punch to the gut. For a moment she couldn’t breathe.
No, she couldn't love Cardan. But back in his bedroom, when she crawled into bed and he immediately wrapped his arms around her without waking up, she wondered if maybe it wasn't just possible--but undeniable.
She felt him shift behind her until their bodies were pressed together and then his soft voice spoke into her hair. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," she replied a little breathless. "Just had to use the bathroom."
Cardan hummed a response and was likely already halfway to being asleep again when Jude rolled over onto her other side to face him. His eyes reluctantly opened to look at her, bleary and half open. He really was beautiful. Jude’s chest tightened with want.
No, she couldn’t lose him. And yet...
"Cardan," she breathed before she could lose her nerve. "About what you said at the hospital. About you telling them you're my boyfriend…"
"I didn't know what else to s--"
"What if I want you to be. My boyfriend, I mean."
A small, sleepy smile spread across Cardan's face as his eyes drifted closed once more. He pulled Jude into him more so that her head rested against his chest--planted a kiss on top of her head, and said, "Then I'm yours."
Moments later he was softly snoring.

Fic: After Shock
A/N: I feel like I haven’t had time to breathe since I started the new job and my anxiety has made it so I haven’t been sleeping a lot either. I haven’t been writing either. So decided to rewatch ‘Wetwire’ after some friends were just rewatching and tried to bust out a quick fic. It took two weeks.I don’t know where my head took me with this. Taggin @90saolchatroom because it was one of her comments that started this idea.
P.S. I also make a reference to another fic I wrote called Sure. Fine. Whatever. Also, @90saolchatroom‘s headcanon was also the source of inspiration that well. Heck, she was the inspiration for these fics period.
P.P.S. No beta so mucho apologies for the typos. Between lack of sleep and getting used to the new job, I’m sorry.
Tagging @today-in-fic @baronessblixen @improlificinsarcasm
Scully was free to leave the hospital after a few days of observation with her mother dogging her at each step. She couldn’t blame her, especially after what had happened. Fears of trust and betrayal. Rushing to the only place where she thought she had left. Pointing a gun at her partner. Breaking down in her mother’s arms still grasping her weapon, afraid to give up control. She remembered feeling Mulder’s sad gaze linger as her mother soothed Scully.
The same moment had entirely had been mirrored months previously with Modell control Mulder and point a gun at her. The pain Mulder realized he couldn’t control his own actions. And then with her, she had shown just the opposite. Fear. True fear. What an odd twist of fate. In shared moments of desperation, both had almost shot their respective partners. Except for this time, something resonated deeply in Scully’s heart. A deep ache that hadn’t healed.
After many promises to call Maggie Scully in the morning and assurances that Scully would be fine in her Georgetown apartment, her mother left shortly before ten. The paranoia was still fresh in her mind, however, that was one side effect she hated from the entire experience. She could remember everything. Logically, she knew there was nothing to be afraid of but that would stop checking the locks on all of her windows and triple checking the lock on her front door. Satisfied that she was safe, Scully retreated to her bathroom to draw a long bath in an effort to relax.
It still bothered Scully that she could have let herself think that: Mulder had betrayed her and broken their deeply earned trust in one another. As she slid beneath the steaming water and bubbles, she flashed back over the past three years. Tooms trying to kill her in her bathroom. Duane Barry breaking through her living room windows that lead to abduction. Then to chasing Mulder down to Puerto Rico and staying with him even after news of Melissa taking the bullet meant for her.
Scully flinched in memory, a twinge of regret. It should have been her instead of her sister. When Missy and her mother had needed her, she was with Mulder, chasing the Truth with a capital ‘t’, finding her name amongst endless files that should not exist.
But in the hospital room, when Scully arrived at a vacant bed, it was Mulder who wordlessly held her hand in that empty hospital room and then hugged her as she became adrift with grief. But during all this, during these past three years, Scully had come to trust him more than she would have thought possible. But now that regret and anxiety lingered over her current actions. Had she destroyed it? What they had? What was there left to go back to?
Unable to help herself, Scully climbed out to tub, draining the water, and reached for her cordless phone. It was near midnight but she knew Mulder to be up. The man hardly slept. After she dialed his number and reaching is answering machine, she decided to get dressed and drive to Old Town Alexandria, her conscience weighing heavier by the minute. The midnight drive took longer than she would have liked and parking being worse than she imagined. She turned up the radio in an effort to drown out her thoughts as she parked the car. Scully could go back home and pretend she was okay for the next time they saw each other at the office on Friday morning or she could do something.
**************
Scully found herself in front of apartment number 42 with her hand poised to knock but the door was quickly pulled open. “I saw you parking from the window,” Mulder greeted her softly. “Couldn’t sleep either, huh?”
Scully tried to look beyond her tall partner and saw a reading lamp on, heard The Cranberries playing, and no blue tv light. “Um, no.” She refocused her gaze. “Um...I called and it went straight to voicemail. I was, uh…”
“Did you? I must’ve missed it. I ran out to get some food. Are you hungry?”
He stepped away from the entryway and opened the door wider so she could come in. “So no tv tonight?”
He lowered the volume on his stereo. “I thought I would take a break from watching tv, given recent events.”
She chuckled. “Don’t stop on account of me.” Mulder disappeared into the kitchen as Scully picked the book he had been reading up off the table. “I could tell you the ending to the book your reading, Mulder.”
“I thought I would give it a go since I remind you so much of the title character. You remember our conversation when you wrecked the boat,” Mulder laughed from the kitchen. Scully looked down at the library copy of Moby Dick fondly. “And don’t ruin it.”
“Some coincidence, Mulder.”
“I guess.” He came back out with two cans of soda and one hand and two plates balanced precariously on his other arm like a waiter. “I think I remembered. Beef and broccoli with white rice instead of noodles because you want to be healthier, sweet and sour chicken for me and one single egg roll for you.”
“Mulder, that’s our normal Chinese order. I wasn’t planning on coming over tonight.”
“Call it initiation.” He paused and shrugged. “I must have done it out of habit. Now that I have, we can’t let it go to waste can we?”
“I suppose not,” Scully conceded
“So,” Mulder began, passing her the plate, “are you feeling any better? Not gonna draw your weapon at me if the rice isn’t hot enough?”
“Mulder, please don’t. I feel bad enough as it is what happens.” She sighed, looking at the food. “I still feel ashamed.”
“Scully, you can’t let it eat you like that,” he answered. “You weren’t in your right mind. Just like when Modell controlled me. We had no control over the situation.”
They sat on the leather couch so close that they were touching. Scully moved slightly in an effort to make it less awkward. She shoveled the Chinese around on the plate. “I feel like I did, in some way. Why would it make me believe that you had betrayed me?”
“It prayed on our worst fears. I guess,” he paused in thought, “I guess my betrayal is one of yours.”
“Well, it’s true. I thought you would actually betray me, kill me...I can’t believe I let myself accuse you of those things.” She shook her head in disgust. “Mulder, how can you be okay with this? Be mad. Do something. Anything!”
“Scully,” Mulder sighed, “please don’t.” She set the plate in front of her, unable to eat. He sighed and took her hand without thinking. “Please don’t let us go down that road. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“How could you be so forgiving, Mulder? I pointed a gun at you. I’ve shot you before, don’t forget!”
“Did you forget I did this same to you not a few months ago?” And he smiled sadly. “And you shot me because I was out of my mind. You saved me, remember? Who else could perform surgery both with a pistol and scalpel?” She bit her lip and tried to pull her hand away. Mulder did not let her hand go. “Neither were you. So why do you hold yourself to a set of different standards than everyone else, Scully? I’m allowed to make mistakes but you aren’t?”
“I can’t afford to be,” she answered after a few moments. She gave up fighting. “I can’t afford to be because I have to prove just as much as the next guy.”
“Not to me, remember? You don’t have to prove anything to me.”
“But I accused you of…”
“You weren't in the right state of mind or have you forgotten? Let it go, Scully. Now eat something before your dinner gets cold.”
Mulder forced the plate into her hand and took a few bites of his own meal. After a moment’s hesitation, Scully followed suit. They continued to eat in silence as The Cranberries played. How could he be so forgiving of her?
“So what’s next?” She asked as she finished her Chinese. “For us?”
Mulder shrugged and picked up the plates. “I’m not letting you travel again tonight, that’s for sure. I know you just got out of the hospital, but it would give me peace of mind. And I don’t fancy your mother’s wrath when she learns you are out and about.”
“You’re no better than my mother. I’m fine, Mulder.”
He knew a losing battle when he saw it when it came to his partner. Her independence and stubbornness matched his own. “Well, at least let me drive you home, using your car and I will catch a cab back here.”
“Mulder, you don’t have to baby me,” she said.
“I’m not babying you. I…” Mulder sighed. “I just worry about you, Scully. And care. That’s all. I’d prefer you stay here honestly. I just want to make sure you are okay.”
For a moment, Scully let her guard down. Maybe she was still tired of everything from the previous ordeal or maybe it was more. Maybe she was just tired of more than the most recent life or death situation. “And what sleep on your couch? It isn’t necessarily that big.”
“I have a seldom-used bedroom, aka the guest room as I call it. You can stay there.”
“Mulder, I’m fine.” She stifled a yawn and wiped the sleep from her eyes. “If you want to mother hen me then come back with me to Georgetown and I will call you a cab. I just want to be in my own bed.”
“Fair enough. I think you may have wasted your gas coming out here.”
“I got a free meal out of it.”
Scully was mentally panicking. This was not going anyway she had planned. She did not feel any better about the situation. More than anything, she needed to run. Mulder reached for her hand again, and for the second time that night, he grounded her and brought her racing thoughts back to a standstill. “Scully, just stay the night. I won’t bite and you would ease my fears.”
“Mulder, I'm fine.”
“I know you are but I’m not. I worry about you, Scully.”
After a moment’s consideration, she gave into Mulder’s request. Not for her sake of course, but for him. She did remember Missy confiding how much her abduction almost destroyed him. “Okay, Mulder,” she relented. She held up a finger conditionally. “But only for tonight.”
“You got it, Scully.”
He had that boyish smile on his face and nodded towards her. “I don’t suppose you would mind if I run out to my car to grab my overnight bag?”
“Since when did you start carrying an overnight bag with you?”
“When you started to call me at odd hours to travel halfway across the country.” Something flashed in his eyes. “It wasn’t meant as an insult,” she added hastily.
“I know, Scully,” he said softly. “I’ll go make up the bed for you.”
She collected her shoes to grab her bag out of her car before taking the elevator back up to his apartment. In the back of her mind, since she had arrived at Mulder’s apartment, the entire ordeal felt off. She thought driving over Mulder’s apartment would ease some of her own worries and doubt but this entire situation was spiraling out of control. She did not know if she felt comfortable with that at all.
She turned the doorknob to find the door in Mulder’s living room open. She heard him moving about the rarely sed room. “I hope you don’t mind the clutter,” he called. Scully stood in the doorway and watched him. “Sheets are clean. The bathroom’s through there.” He gestured at the lit doorway opposite of him. “Can you think of anything else?”
“No, I don’t think so, Mulder. I can still go home and get out of your hair.”
“You’ll do no such thing, Scully. If it makes you feel better, I won’t say anything else about the matter.”
He adjusted the quilt on the bed and gave her one last smile. “Goodnight, Scully. And I’m glad you decided to stay.”
She bit her lip as he shut the door behind him. Scully suddenly felt trapped and at odds with the war of doubt that had been brewing in her head. Hell, that was the whole reason why she had made the trek to Alexandria to begin with. Now, here she was, a prisoner in Mulder’s rarely used bedroom. She could make a run for it and go back to Georgetown, but she was tired. Scully decided that she would likely have trouble sleeping even in her own bed and decided to spend the night and try and make the best of a crappy situation.
**************
The second time Scully woke up, she was disoriented and it took a moment for her to gain her bearings. The dimly lit alarm clock revealed it was 3:14 a.m. The unfamiliar bed felt foreign and she could not get comfortable. She tossed and turned before giving up and turning on the lamp. Boxes upon boxes surrounded her and in the dim light, she caught words like textbooks, photos, Samantha, and research. She shifted her attention and saw a dim light coming from the door that separated the bedroom and living room. She couldn’t hear the tv.
With curiosity biting at her, she got out a foreign bed and creaked the bedroom door open. Scully shivered and grabbed a spare blanket off the bed to wrap around her shoulders. She found Mulder wide awake lying on his couch, staring at some fixed point within his fish tank. The mollies swam back and forth and he sighed. “Am I keeping you up, Scully?”
“No,” she answered softly. “I just woke up. You know I have trouble sleeping in different beds sometimes.”
Mulder pushed himself up and patted the leather couch beside him invitingly. “Come sit with me.”
“I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“I was already up, Scully.” He gave her a tired smile. “I can turn on a light or something.”
“No, this is fine.” She sat gingerly on the couch next to him. “I just have been having trouble sleeping since this entire ordeal. That’s why I tried to call earlier tonight. And why I came here.” She shrugged and Mulder tugged at the blanket fondly. “Sorry.”
“You’re fine,” he chuckled. “I remember having the same problem after Modell.”
“What problem?”
“The lack of sleep.” He crossed his legs and rested them on the coffee table. “Well, worse than usual. I kept seeing the gun and your face. More than anything it was your eyes, Scully that always woke me up.”
“My eyes?”
He nodded and glanced at her. “It is what you mentioned yourself. Betrayal of trust. I just remember the pain in your eyes.” Mulder sighed. “I know that this...little crusade of mine has cost us both.”
Scully maneuvered the blanket around her shoulders and cast it over both of them. Mulder smiled gratefully in the dim light. She brought her knees to her chest and rested her head against her bicep. “I know,” she murmured.
“I should’ve have protected you better,” he confessed softly. He reached for her hand and squeezed it. “The night on Skyline Mountain. The light. You were gone.”
“But I came back.”
“Because they decided they could bring you back to prove a point.”
“Mulder,” she whispered, “I’m not Samantha.”
“I know,” he replied. “You Scully. My Scully.” The way he repeated her surname sounded like an endearment. “But still...I can’t help but think that your sister would be alive if it wasn’t for me.”
The silence was deafening.
“Missy said everything happens for a reason, Mulder. One Christmas, when I was still in medical school, she came home. We went to Old Town Alexandria. Not too far from here. We had a girls' night. I was drunk. She was drunk. We both decided to do palm readings from this little place on the second story off King Street next to a tobacco shop.”
He chuckled. “You, Scully? A palm reading?”
“It was her idea and I was too drunk to disprove it.” Mulder chuckled again. “What?”
“Next time we discuss one of my theories, I’ll bring the whiskey.”
She smiled and moved closer to him to the point they were almost touching. “Missy went first,” she continued, ignoring his loaded comment, “and the fortune she had, well, it was a good thing we were both drunk.”
“What was her fortune?”
“Missy was told she would die young. The fortune-teller specifically said 33 years old.”
“Scully…”
She held up a finger. “But, in the afterlife, she would do her most beneficial work.”
Mulder recalled the night he thought about taking his own life during Scully’s abduction and it was Melissa Scully that had interrupted that horrible attempt. But it was her that made him believe Scully was still there, even if she was in a coma.
“Do you think she is watching over you now?” he whispered.
“I like to think so,” Scully replied. “But what was ironic was my own fortune that strikes a chord...well, at the time.”
“What do you mean?”
“We were both drunk that night and I haven’t actually thought of it until now.”
“What about it?” He moved so he could face her. After a moment, he took her hand and lounged backward. She fought him initially but relented after a few minutes. It was much cozier than just sitting on the couch. “Just relax.”
“This is very unprofessional.”
“Since when is anything we did professional?”
Mulder’s hand drifted to the small of her bag and she relaxed. His fingertips grazed her bare skin giving her shivers. He pulled the blanket up around them. She relaxed. “Tell me what your fortune was?”
“I would meet my other half,” she confessed after a long moment.
“Really?”
“Quit making fun of me.”
“I’m not.”
Scully nuzzled his cotton shirt and breathed deeply. The familiar scent of whatever was ‘Mulder’ wafted through her nose. As she reflected on the fortune she had been told, at the time, she thought it meant Daniel but now, after going through the past few years, and Missy’s prodding. Maybe it meant someone else.
“But yeah. False promises on soulmates.”
“I wouldn’t call it a false promise or false fortunes.” He moved a stray piece of hair out of her face. “Maybe you just haven’t met him yet.”
“Maybe.”
His fingers drifted up under her top towards the rest of her back. “It was the trust,” she whispered. He was distracting her. She couldn’t collect her thoughts. “I feel like, after everything, I can only trust you because you know. You understand. I call you first. Then my mother. Or my brothers.”
“So when you thought I betrayed you, you went to the next place?”
“My mother’s.”
Mulder rested his forehead against hers. “You know that I would never do anything to you, Scully. Right?”
“I know, Mulder.”
She licked her lips and kissed him before she could stop herself. Mulder broke away, smiled, and attacked with renewed vigor. Words were lost between them as useless couch cushions were pushed off and Scully gained leverage to straddle his waist. Wait. No. So many no’s flashed through her head but she could not stop herself. It was an urge to feel safe, to trust, and to know that someone was there for her. Mulder was that person. But she felt the rising pressure between her legs that came from Mulder.
“We shouldn’t,” she warned.
“I know,” he breathed.
“So much could go wrong.”
“I know.”
But neither one of them made an effort to stop themselves. “Scully, we can go a step further or we can stop this. I don’t want it to stop. Tell me what you want?”
She slid slowly off his hips and gathered the blanket. “I should, uh, go back to bed. I’m sorry for what just happened.”
“Scully…” he called.
She disappeared into the bedroom and shut the door, her last barrier to keep her from losing herself control. After the most recent episode with fearing Mulder’s betrayal and being prepared to shoot him in the face. But to her utter horror, Mulder was trailing her. The door opened with a bang and she jumped. “Jesus, Mulder.”
“Please, hear me out. Is it something I did?”
“No,” she breathed. “We just can’t, Mulder. I had a moment, that is all.”
“A moment,” he repeated. “That wasn’t a moment. You can trust me, Scully. I promise I won’t betray you. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
She brought the blanket around her shoulders instinctively like a shield. Childhood memories of distrust flashed in her head, one of the reasons why she became so private of a person as an adult. But here he was, invading her personal space just like he did the first day they met. He cupped her cheek. Her eyes closed as he gently stroked her cheek with his thumb. “Sometimes, I don’t know who to trust but I know, deep down, I always can trust you.”
“You can trust me now.”
Scully nodded into his hand. Mulder took that as a sign and gently leaned forward to kiss her soundly. The kiss sent electricity through every part of her body and unconsciously, she grasped both of his hands and held on tightly. Mulder deepened the kiss. At that moment, they were both lost. It was something about being able to trust someone with your entirety, body, mind, and soul, and not have to worry about any fears or repercussions. Just because you knew. You trusted them. The blanket fell from her shoulders. Mulder’s warm hands crept under her shirt and she shivered. They were so close to one another.
“Scully, please.” He sounded like he was begging. “I promise I won’t hurt you.”
She closed her eyes, bit her lip, and give him the slightest nod. He was reverent in his movements as he let his fingers trail down her back slowly as if memorizing her. She bowed her head forward and willed herself to move, to do something. Finally, she regained control of her hands and gently peeled off his tee-shirt. She saw the puckered scar on his shoulder that still looked fresh despite it being over a year old.  He smiled slightly and kissed her tenderly. The first time Scully had let herself imagine this scenario, she imagined he would be much more vigorous in his efforts, almost like one of his films. But so fair, he kept surprising her.
“I know,” she whispered.
She walked them backwards until the back of her knees met the mattress. “It’s been a while,” she whispered.
“Same here.”
Scully felt all sorts of insecurity which she thought buried long ago bubble up. As if sensing those insecurities, he kissed her brow encouragingly and she relented. She pulled off her top in one movement and he swallowed hungrily. The small bulge earlier took on a new life.
 “I know I’m not like…”
“You’re perfect,” he breathed.
She was tired of fighting and without hesitation, she lunged forward to kiss him, and then guide him back onto the bed. Like explorers charting the unknown lands, they began their newest adventure. He left a trail of kisses like breadcrumbs down her shoulder blades and down the valley of her breasts. She shivered at the soft touches from his lips. “I wouldn’t go that far,” she murmured.
She leaned back into the pillows taking him with her. “I’ve wanted this for so long, Scully,” he breathed. He took a moment to meet her gaze. “I want you to trust me. I want to be the only one that you trust. More than friends.”
“I remember, Mulder.” She played with his hair. “But that was then, this is now. Things have changed between us.”
“That little small town wasn’t that long ago,” he countered.
He was intent on just lazily kissing her right now. She didn’t seem to mind. “But again, neither one of us was in our right mind.”
He paused and rolled to the side so he could watch her. “The planets hadn’t aligned properly.”
“Not then anyways.”
Mulder propped his head upon his left arm so he could watch her. Despite the wall of boxes in the unused bedroom, he had left the sole window free and clear. The blinds were half open and she could see the streetlights and shadows dance across his face. “I know you said you were ashamed during your little episode but you shouldn’t be.”
“How weren’t you affected by it?”
His hand traced down her smooth abdomen in thought and played with the elastic of her pajama pants. “Hmm? Oh. I’m red-green colorblind and according to the Gunmen, it was something like that causing it.” He saw her raised eyebrow. “In one eye. A childhood accident or something?” He switched winking at her with each eye. “My right eye is fine. My left eye...not so much.” He opened both eyes and smiled. “I can still tell you’re hair is red, not green, but it isn’t as vibrant with both eyes versus just my right eye. Now you blue eyes? Those stand out. Isn’t that funny how that is a thing?”
She chuckled. “I can think of any number of reasons how you might have become color blind in one eye, though extremely rare…” She sighed at the sensation as any rational thoughts escaped her as Mulder found her mons. “Jesus, it’s been too long.”
“Good vibrations,” Mulder sang off-key, “I’m picking up good vibrations.”
Scully laughed at Mulder’s horrible rendition of The Beach Boys before she was silenced by one of his kisses. His hand moved with an independent mind of its own as he experimented with a kiss or a slight tug on her earlobe. Each new sensation caused her to gasp and move under him or buck towards him. “Mulder, enough play.”
His fingers dipped into the ‘v’ of her thighs. “Yes, ma’am,” he answered.
They awkwardly peeled away the remains of their clothes and with unspoken communication, they sealed their union. It was quick, awkward, but all at the same time, unforgettable. Afterward, entangled together like a sailor’s knot, beneath the lightly used blankets, they lay together. It started to rain and Mulder nuzzled her neck and whispered. “You can trust me, Scully...if nothing else, we will always have each other.”
“We’ve been some dark roads,” she whispered into the night air. Mulder coiled around her. “I fear it’s only going to get worse.”
“Mmm.” He vibrated all around her and she tried to pull him closer. “While it may, you'll always have someone to trust.”
“Where does this leave us, Mulder?” she whispered.
“We’re good,” he whispered.  “We’re fine. Nothing will change.”
“We just…”
He silenced her with another kiss and she melted against him. She was tired of being unable to trust anyone and the weight of their work felt crushing in moments like this. “We’re okay, Scully. We’re going to be okay.”
“Do you trust me?”
Scully breathed deeply and tried to memorize the moment. Mulder around her. The unused bedroom that had become their private sanctuary. The rain outside beating against the window. The streetlights and the wind moving their branches. He pulled the blankets around them.
“Yes,” Scully answered. “I trust you.”
