My Captive Prince hot take is that reputation by Taylor Swift is entirely about Laurent & Damen. All the songs fit perfectly.

This post I’m doing ‘Call It What You Want’ and captive prince parallels!!

Call It What You Want

Before I go into this, I have to mention, this song must have been Laurent’s internal dialogue before king’s meet - literally every single line! But I love the bridge and some of the verses because they capture Laurent’s many nuances perfectly and that’s What I’m highlighting here. Enjoy. I threw in some other non-KR metaphors for the lines too, just for fun.

Here we go. *take one breath for emotional support*

1. I mean the verse below really capture Damen & Laurent throughout the trilogy but more so during king's rising, and in karthas, when all of the shit regent pulled in Ios (the lies about Laurent’s apparent treachery and Damen’s patricide (!)) were brought to their attention with a herald. They were alone but had only each other when the world started calling them liars. Then damen was just like.. “fuck the regent and kastor, call it what you want bitches. We are the rightful kings of akielos and vere.”

I like to think Laurent went to sleep that night in Damen’s arms humming this verse. :’)

“My castle crumbled overnight, I brought a knife to a gunfight

(funny how this line works on two levels, for Damen losing ios when he was sold to slavery and Laurent losing vere and everything else when auguste dies)

They took the crown, but it's alright, all the liars are calling me one

(well, pretty much the karthas court scene)

Nobody's heard from me for months, I'm doing better than I ever was, 'cause..

(cause you were protecting Damen on the pretence of “border duty in delfeur”!! And well, we know why you were doing better)

2. This is probably my favourite part of this parallel, it’s just so soft and pure and soooo Laurent. Especially when you think of the night they spent in Mellos (forget about the fact that he was going to sacrifice himself for a minute, please.)

“All my flowers grew back as thorns

(this pretty much surmised Laurent’s character arc)

Windows boarded up after the storm, he built a fire just to keep me warm/I'm laughing with my lover, making forts under covers

(this is very interesting, ‘cause I think this goes well with the narration for the Mellos inn scene in the book too. Pacat also talks about the hostile akielos landscape outside, but inside that inn room with the fire and the bedding, they were safe from the storm)

All the drama queens taking swings, all the jokers dressin' up as kings, 

(Looking at you Regent, Kastor, Guion, Aimeric, in some ways Jokaste, etc.)

they fade to nothing when I look at him

And I know I make the same mistakes every time, bridges burn, I never learn, at least I did one thing right

(This is again so on par with the fucking narration. Remember that time Laurent told Damen he isn’t used to his uncle miscalculating, like Laurent is used to losing/making the same mistakes/being predicatble.. and then Damen just shows up out of no where to be the ‘one thing that Laurent does right’. I don’t know if I’m more emotional about Lamen or Taylor swift or perhaps both. And also, fun side note, Laurent tells Damen this and Damen just carefully extracts himself away from that situation, like, okay Laurent, gotta go do some repairs. Lol.)

3. The metaphor for the cuffs that they wear throughout KR:

4. This part was also perfectly captures the essence of the dialogue in KR…the part where Damen asks Laurent to come to the Summer Palace with him and holds his breath waiting for Laurent to say something. (And grins like the love sick fool he is :’) ) also, he is just so sure they’d win? like they didn’t have to save his fucking child who was captive with the Regent!? Like okay Damen, we get that you are big and strong but chill with the getaway plans.

LOL okay idk if this is the FULL story i probably won’t include details and stuff because i didn’t closely follow uniq during their whole hiatus thing (i had the brainpower to stan one group at a time but now look at me TWO kpop groups AND i’m starting to follow a cpop group AND pd camp 2020 AND am constantly fuming at yibo and xiao zhan’s management agencies for ruining their idol groups )

LOOL anyway so uniq is a korean-chinese boy group formed under yuehua ent which has korean and chinese management ... you probably know other kpop artists from yuehua like wjsn (co-managed by starship) or everglow... if you’re into cpop there’s next/next7...anyway they have 3 chinese members(yixuan, wenhan, and yibo) and 2 korean members (sungjoo and seungyoun) and they debuted in 2014 with falling in love, promoted btwn china and korea, released a couple of osts (for like, teenage mutant ninja turtles and madagascar lol lol lol) and then in 2015 they came back w/ eoeo (if you’re into kpop you probably know eoeo at least) it’s their most well-known song, and this comeback was w/ their first (and only lol lol) ep/mini album.

they started garnering a good amount of attention and started to appear on more variety shows in korea and china, started promoting in japan, they even went to brazil in a fanmeet that’s pretty cool lol , (but...why didn’t they solidify uniq’s position in kr/ch with their momentum instead of sending them to different countries??? we love money-minded yeehaw entertainment)

and then china’s hallyu ban happened (which is something that i never really understood and never took the time to fully research because it hurt my brain) but essentially chinese govt restricted k-entertainment from profitting in china because politics, for example a lot of kpop tours and fanmeets got cancelled. and this put uniq in a difficult position because they’re split between being based in china and korea, but eventually the ban got lessened (there’s still tension but like, there’s literally adore u playing in the camp of pd camp 2020 ep 2 so like lol) but yeehaw made NO efforts to maintain the group musically b/c they’re money-minded cows and if they split uniq up into a kr and a chinese unit they can’t make as much money as if they sent the members into acting.... (literally there’s an interview from a couple yrs back where xuan talks about how itd be nice to make music but it doesn’t make as much as acting does in china :-(( ) so while they still had events in japan, they didn’t do much together in their main bases, and acted a lot cool cool

one thing i never understood is why yuehua never just pushed them more in the kr market...there are so many groups in the k-industry w/ chinese members (i literally STAN one, my ULT is a chinese member in a kpop group what the HECK)...but making money right lol anyway so xuan, wenhan, and yibo went into acting in china (and yibo is an mc on day day up), and acting takes up sm time, (gonna quote my chinese friend here who’s a sad wjsn ot13 stan who misses cheng xiao, mmq, and wxy, once ur popular in china it’s goodbye kpop) and sungjoo went into acting in korea (if you’ve ever watched my secret terrius or the disaster that was liar and his lover w/ joy, sungjoo is in those lol) and seungyoun continued to produce and release music as woodz and luizy

but it’s sad because they all trained for so long to perform on the stage as 5 but yuehua’s shitty management in the hallyu ban crisis thing really screwed them over...in terms of being on the stage like come on! THEY HAVE TALENT.. ok in early 2018 they released an ep and in dec 2018 they released their single monster (last single together lol), but again, no group promotion, no being able to perform on the stage, no nothing (oh yeah also yibo was a dance mentor on produce 101 china in 2018 nice)

2019 was a good year for most of the members:

-wenhan went on qcyn (youth with you season 1, the second show in the idol producer franchise) and got 1st, debuting in unine which he’s currently a part of, and got to perform on the stage after years of not being able to, thanks yuehua

-yixuan went on all for one (another survival program from youku), also got 1st, and debuted in new storm

-yibo (as we all know) acted in the untamed and became ultra-popular for his well-roundedness

-seungyoun went on the 4th season/spinoff of produce 101 in kr called produce x 101 and got 5th place, debuting in x1, which later disbanded, THANKS MNET THAT’S ANOTHER STORY BUT anyway i don’t think seungyoun was rigged into place, does yuehua even care that much?? lmOA he was so loveable on px101 and i think the move perf rly sealed the deal for everyone

-sungjoo...was done dirty by yeehaw...he’s a MAIN VOCAL he has SOLo potential but yeehaw just put him in the dungeon thanks.. and he recently enlisted in the army not too long ago

oh also sungjoo, xuan, and yibo performed monster + eoeo together at yuehua’s 10 anniversary concert...seungyoun wasn’t there because of x1 and wenhan performed with unine

wow yeehaw really thought they deserved a 10th anniversaryy celebration LMFAO

***the members are still part of uniq though, survival shows are weird

anyway as we can see each member is talented in their own way and uniq is an unfortunate case of yuehua not knowing how to manage people lol but if you watch their shows you know that they’re genuine and tight-knit, and even though they might not be together rn, in their hearts they’re still a part of uniq (cue pics of their weibo usernames having uniq in them, cue wenhan spamming his dad’s video with “UNIQ IS STILL TOGETHER” when his dad talks about how uniq disbanded) and they haven’t forgotten their identity of being part of uniq even as they get older. their contracts expire in 2022 and w/ kim sungjoo in the army, who knows if they actually will make a comeback but this is why everyone hates yuehua and everyone misses uniq bye

again i know they’re successful individually, i know seungyoun’s able to produce his own music, yibo’s able to turn his hobbies into work, wenhan and yixuan are still able to perform on a stage, they came here for uniq and got separated w/o them ever wanting to

Inspired by Myetie but not based on her concept.    Having discovered that Rika was alive and V was a liar all along, Yoosung quit his attempt of a student life who failed miserably at just to find her — once he succeeds, he took part of Mint Eye and automatically became Rika’s lap dog.    However, due to the brainwash and emotional abuse  ( unbeknownst to him ),  he became twisted — no longer a caring and worrisome personality and a rather obsessed and manipulative borderline psychopath with the concept of making her proud. From time to time he uses a childish persona attitude to irritate other Mint Eye members.    His specialty is fieldwork ; but he will occasionally engage in recruitment and persuading people with his innocent looks only to kidnap them with the help of other members.

   Yet another exchange student in Akademi High and part of the Gaming Club except he does not join them walking around, rather choosing to stay and use the desktops to play some videogames to destress or carry on with studying since he wants to enter SKYUniversity when he returns  ( as some tragedies that take place in his life had not happened yet, he is still your hardworking student ).

Note: Unless you want yandere Yoosung  ‘ replacing ’  Ayano Aishi, he will not act like an obsessed lover willing to kill them both in the name of their love. For this unhealthy relationship to happen, send me a message!  I would love to explore dark subjects with him.

   Given a Gaming club did not exist or was allowed to, even. The blond joined the Gardening club to learn about all different types of plants, especially those that had great benefits for humans and those that were lethal to animals.

   Still, he was tempted to join the Literature Club to bring his PSP and play in that class but the idea of being with only girls made him utterly nervous and went against to it that and because maybe he did come out as extremely rude

   Aaah, the last thing he can recall is yelling at a player in Mononoke Land because the mad-lad got the rare monster before him which was the cherry on top for his rollercoaster of a day thus the dyed-blond decided to go to sleep, though he did shoot an apology to his friend but man, why the heck was he so lucky...?  Did he just enjoy flexing that he had it in him?  Nevertheless, he went to sleep.

   Imagine his shock when he woke up, drowsy, by some aggressively blinding light only to find two ikemen  ( no... no it’s more like, two demons straight-up from those romance manhwas )  right before his eyes. For a solid moment, he started to question where this dream was going until he was told that this was indeed real and this was an exchange student program      perhaps, his reaction was way too energetically but woah???  These turn of events??  For real?  Ignoring the black-haired reaction but listening to his explanation, he was over the moon about this unforeseen turn of events.    And wouldn’t you know what else!  Turns out his frenemy is none other than... an actual demon, what. Also, he is actually super powerful?  Sure, third in rank but haha, what.

Mutant verse / For Marvel &&. DC.    Yoosung was born with the ability to communicate with animals which led him to aspire to become a vet. Not only for their sake but also due to Sally’s accident which caused Rika to be depressed for a while.

   His quirk is called LOCALIZE, it sort of makes him feel like a creep since his quirk is self-explanatory : he  ‘ marks ’  someone and is able to track them down as long as they are breathing     however, there is a catch, that mark is mostly developing a close bond, an emotional one, which causes him to find them ; but he is able to track down other people if granted a description and something that smells like them, kind of... like a dog but with a sharper sense since his vision when activating his quirk resembles a thermographic camera one  ( his eyes also change color to a vibrant green color ).

she didn’t understand. no emotion, no reaction. just another question. maybe she should respond. “my happiest memory?” she pondered the question. perhaps, she should use intimidation. “ah, yes — the first time a killed a man. that was exciting.” a grin grew on her face. “my brother guided me, i’ll never forget that moment, i truly admire him."

nothing. she had just said her happiest memory was her first murder and now they wanted to know her most embarrassing moment? okay… maybe humour. "on my eighteenth birthday, i went to get laser hair removal, it was my first trip and i was shaking. at the time, i wasn’t very comfortable in my body so being naked in front of the very pretty and young woman that was going to be getting rid of my body hair, i was nervous. i ended up slipping and twisting my ankle.” she chuckled lightly. “i had to be taken to hospital. honestly, looking back at it, it’s not that bad but i was mortified at the time.”

“not red — the colour of lust, power, anger. many people wold associate my personality traits with red, but i prefer purple.” maybe if she opened up, was honest. “i can’t deny that red is a very representative colour, but purple has blue hues. a colour that is sometimes compared to sadness — loneliness. so… purple.

“you see this scar?” she tilted her head back, pointing towards the scar under her chin. “i don’t remember how old i was, but i have no memories of being younger — around three, maybe? my parents were throwing me to each other in a swimming pool, when my sister decided to jump in while my mom was, like, throwing me, i guess. i hit the back of her head and… yeah. this happened.”
