"Sarah Conti grew up in a family of birders, so perhaps it’s only natural that birds feature heavily in her work. What’s more, she prefers to sculpt her subjects to scale, like these foot-tall Black-necked Stilts... The sculpture’s pieces fit together like a puzzle, a nod to the fracturing landscape [of the Great Salt Lake]... 'People who want to just look at beautiful birds struggle with how many dead birds I sculpt,' [Sarah] says. A tiny ad announces the new Monster Manual is in stock at the Dungeon Hobby Shop, TSR's own retail store below the company office in the house on Williams St (Dragon 12, February 1978). Tom Wham drew many of the shop's ads in Dragon, but the overall style and precise hatching make me think this one is by Dave Trampier.
