it is so perfect that Guildford learns to control his form by changing into a horse first, rather than by staying a man in the daylight. he can only change at will once he's accepted love. that he loves Jane but more importantly, that he loves and can forgive himself.

I understand that on a doylist level the holographic goalies wear chains as a reference to the manga volume covers and the symbolism of constraint (internal and external) that those have but why are they designed like this in-universe. do you think ego jinpachi was sitting in his supervillain lair like computer. generate a muscular man who is naked except for a collar and leash

The thing that is so amazing for me about Doran is that he is essentially the FIRST father we get in this series (we are like FOUR THOUSAND PAGES IN AT THIS POINT BTW) who realizes he has allowed his own faults to harm the trust his daughter has placed in him and then takes responsibility for how he has hurt her. Doran is livid with Arianne until she finally makes the comment about believing he is set to disinherit her and give Dorne to Quentyn and then his anger completely deflates, and he says very clearly to her, “Dorne will be yours. You have my word on that, if my word still has any meaning for you.”
“IF MY WORD STILL HAS ANY MEANING FOR YOU.”
He doesn’t try to put the blame back on her after this, and in fact he puts the breaks on the conversation, making it clear that the problem here was his lack of communication and not Arianne's mistrust. And more than that, just this tiny little acknowledgment that he’s done her wrong is enough for Arianne to completely forgive him! All she needed in the end was a simple acknowledgement that he was being unfair. The moment she gets it she is determined to be her father’s dutiful daughter all over again, even after years of resentment and mistrust. It is, ultimately, i think all most of the daughters who clash with their fathers need in the end and that really only Arianne is lucky enough to receive; a simple acknowledgement that he is the one who messed up, and that she was right to be wary of him. And that little acknowledgement is all either of them needs to face whatever comes next -
“Go swiftly, go safely, be my eyes and ears and voice… but most of all, take care.” “I will, Father.” She did not shed a tear. Arianne Martell was a princess of Dorne, and Dornishmen did not waste water lightly. It was a near thing, though. It was not her father’s kisses nor his hoarse words that made her eyes glisten, but the effort that brought him to his feet, his legs trembling under him, his joints swollen and inflamed with gout. Standing was an act of love. Standing was an act of faith. He believes in me. I will not fail him.
Doran makes the effort to try. He is not perfect but at least he tries for Arianne and it gives Arianne the confidence to pick herself up and try again as well.

WE’RE GETTING IN IT NOW!
Not only did [Mysterious Lava Lamp Parents] pay the price of the closeness with their own children, they also paid the price of not being able to touch each other.
THEY WENT INTO THIS JAM JAR ON PURPOSE.
IT WAS A PRICE THEY PAID WILLINGLY TO TURN BACK TIME.
AND THEN WE SEE THE HANDS FROM PAGE ONE.
WE SEE THE BEGINNING OF THE MANGA.
Which, it turns out, was chronologically in order! It wasn’t a vision of anything to come after it, it was a glimpse of [Mysteriously Unidentified Lava Lamp Parents] in their Jam Jar, where they went in order to turn back time, before the rest of the series happened.
I’m guessing that means this is also how they knew to give Lava Lamp his instructions on going to the Clow Kingdom? Because something Else happened the first time around and they Turned Back Time to make sure Lava Lamp went there and caused Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle to happen instead? Which is wild to think about. And yet I'm not entirely sure if that checks out, since Evil Wolverine seems to be slightly outside of time. I suppose I could be wrong about that.
And yet I can’t see any other reason why they would have had to turn back time unless-
OH. WAIT.
… unless they were from the future?
If they were future characters who went back to the right point in time to set the correct points in motion?
I shouldn’t theorise about this too much, this is getting very farfetched and I’m absolutely running full speed ahead with very few facts but imagine.
Imagine what that would mean, when added to the fact that they won’t show us their faces.
There are only so many characters we would recognise.
OR
WAIT
WAIT WAIT WAIT
OK
MORE SPECIFICALLY, THEY WON’T SHOW US THEIR ORIGINAL FACES
AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER, THEIR APPEARANCES CHANGE WHEN THEY GO INTO THE JAM JAR
THEIR “OLDER” FACES ARE STILL UNSEEABLE, BUT THEY “TURN INTO” THE VERSION OF THEMSELVES WE ARE EXPECTING TO SEE FROM CHAPTER ONE.
WE STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE AS FULL ADULTS.
There is potentially the most unhinged possible answer about who Lava Lamp’s parents are based on what Clamp will and won’t show us. The main option that isn't Cardcaptor Sakura genuinely doesn’t make any sense.
BUT ALSO, LOGIC IS DEAD IN THIS UNIVERSE. THEY HAVE SET THAT UP.
DID THEY SET THAT UP SPECIFICALLY SO THAT THE MOST RIDICULOUS ANSWER FOR LAVA LAMP'S PARENTS COULD BE CORRECT?
I JUST DON’T KNOW ANYMORE.

Having a shit day so decided to do a re-watch of We Are Lady Parts. And might as well live blog it while I'm at it. I think this is going to be a Saira/Ameena focussed rewatch, with detours to just balls-out admiration for Saira.
Episode 1
Our introduction to Saira is her singing "I killed my sister". With the knowledge of what actually happened to her sister, this Funny Muslim Song gets so much darker. It becomes so much clearer that for Saira the music really is her way of survival.
Also her and Ayesha definitely have strong something vibes. When they start jamming in the car, Ayesha looks at her for the line about 'your man' and the Saira leans back against her. I remember reading a fic where they had one hook up back in the day. I subscribe to that theory, or even just that Ayesha knows about Saira's bisexuality, and maybe resents her for not proclaiming it more.
I also cannot believe that the meaningful glances between Ameena and Saira are not intentional. Ahsan is introduced with such a caricature of romance. Saira just crackles with energy when it comes to Ameena. (Poor Abdullah. He was doomed by the narrative from the start.)
The Man of Constant Sorrow cover is up there with the Britney cover in terms of awesomeness.

listen i was all ready to rank dfqc’s father as worst father of the year right up there with jiang fengmian and now what am i supposed to do with this knowledge that he actually loved his son and played kick ball and gave him hUGS?? that in order to save their people it seems, he had to make dfqc powerful enough even if it meant dfqc would have no emotional connection that’ll prevent him from killing his father to ascend the throne. that dfqc might still love his father and their people even if he doesn’t understand what that means anymore. and their tribe? loves him too????? enough to be angry that he unintentionally abandoned them??? LET ME LIVE

I do love all the ladies in the magnus archives, but jeez the other interpersonal interactions have been hard to listen to.
Martin is def on Notice (for a) always complaining about Jon just fucking off and doing dangerous stuff alone only to be doing the exact same thing this season b) being an ass to daisy, like how dare he!!)
I do really wish everyone would lay off Jon a bit more, I mean, it's not like I don't get it, he's clearly become even more Creepy, definitely going into monstrous territory and they are right to be Wary of him and his developing powers, especially since he's hiding it but they are also asking him to use it and he's trying?
please cut the pathetic little man a break, if you're worried he's turning more and more into a monster, fully pulling away from him every time they do find out is not going to make him more likely to tell you going forward and if you want him to keep hold of his humanity you really really need him to tell when he's slipping?
On the other hand: jfc Jon, it is not a good look that you're rationalising away the fact that you've like... Traumatised 5 people bc you were feeling peckish lol

Eva Duarte ran from Madoc, that fact is constantly mentioned throughout the books, but no one ever dwells on the fact that she left her kids behind with the guy who just killed their dad. everyone is like "oooh Madoc killed the Duartes, what a horrible violent bastard" but no one mentions Justin was the one who tried to kill him first. Jude ultimately decides she doesn't wanna know if her parents killed a pregnant human girl or not during their escape from Elfhame, and it paints better than anything the fact that no matter how much she imagines her bad parts as a product of Elfhame, her human parents were clearly not totally pure either. and yet Madoc talks about both of them with such tenderness, only mentioning their accomplishments and virtues. I am so so so curious about wtf went down between those 3 in Elfhame you have no idea
