Krist finally got an opportunity to have his OWN SOLO CONCERT, FIRST EVER, as a popular Asian singer and performer he could totally steal the spotlight for hours

but what he did? Immediately reunited three original legendary GMMTV BL couples on the stage (KristSingto, OffGun and TayNew), invited his best friends and both of his on-screen boyfriends (one of whom isn't even in the agency anymore)

while giving opportunity for Gawin to keep performing together because GMM didn't give them new BL or other musical duet promo as they repeatedly both said they wanted.

And all those people and famous respected BL actors were absolutely happy to be on the same stage with him or come to support him, as well as queer friends and especially queer fans. Seriously, it's like half of the industry came to watch Krist's concert, they even made GMMTV CEO dance and vibe!:D

while he himself was absolutely gleeful and happy surrounded by them and even cried few times from overwhelming feelings

That old stupid unfounded rumor of him being homophobic that's been retold in infinite amount of clickbait tweets and tiktok videos out of context simply must cease to exist because if you refuse to listen, see and learn... I have nothing to say. I'll just show.

I cried for roughly thirty minutes during this concert. Both days.

It started when he introduced his song "Missing." He wrote it for his grandmother who passed away when he was a child. Then his other grandmother passed away in September on the same day GMMTV announced Krist's Bangkok concert. On that day, he was flying back from a concert in Cambodia.

He said it was the happiest day of his life, and then it also became the worst. Fans were waiting for him at the arrivals area of the airport, and while he greeted them as usual, he was on the phone, and he seemed distracted. He'd spent the plane ride home thinking about losing a beloved person who helped raise him, fearful of loss and the subsequent pain of her absence. He went directly to the hospital and said his goodbyes.

If you follow him for a while, you'll see on a regular basis how deeply he cherishes his family. He talks about them often. He even started working young and then joined the entertainment industry with the goal of erasing the debt his family lived under. After he succeeded in that, he gave his parents full control of his finances. He wants them to use the money he makes however they wish.

Since his grandmother passed away, he's talked about how it's changed his priorities to try and spend more time with his family. His solo tour was supposed to happen years ago, but the pandemic pushed it back until this autumn. His grandmother wanted to attend, to see his fans, to meet them in person. She wanted to see the people who love and support her grandson who loves his family proudly and profoundly.

She was so close.

Krist said he was so cautious of her health with covid surging around the world, he wanted her to stay inside and keep the risk of infection as low as possible. He said he regrets it now, that she never got to meet his fans.

When Krist sang "Missing" on the first day, he was already fighting a sore throat. He'd practiced so hard for these concerts he wore out his own voice. But singing a song he wrote, in tribute to a beloved grandparent he'd only just lost, someone he still hadn't fully grieved, was clearly a brutally painful experience for him. When he couldn't sing, the fans picked up the song for him.

And on the second day, he knelt and bowed to her image, a smiling constellation watching over him.

The next song was "Thankful," the song featured in Be My Favorite that Krist wrote for his Yuyus years ago.

After that, a surprise video from his fanclub. On the first day, when I got to my seat, I saw a slip of paper on every seat. It said, "I am here for you," and the instructions on the back said to hold it at chest height when the special video began.

At the end of the video, we all held up the papers for him to see.

For added context, this was the day after GMMTV posted a public statement in support of Krist for the first time since scores of interfans began cyberbullying, harassing, and defaming him en masse years ago.

I was with other fans in Krist's restaurant when they posted this. What prompted it was a video of a Brazilian girl calling Krist a homophobe in Portuguese and then giggling to herself. He greeted her politely with a smile, but had no idea what she'd said.

He's been aware all these years of what people were saying, but he did nothing to defend himself because he felt responsible.

To be clear, Krist has apologized for the IG story over and over all these years. He organized the press conference in 2020, and he's said he'll always apologize whenever it's asked of him. However, that apology was never for being homophobic. It was for the IG story and for acting impulsively and hotheadedly in response to ongoing harassment and invasions of privacy. Never forget that Krist himself was the target of homophobia for starring in SOTUS in the first place. The fact that he's been painted as a homophobe is wildly ironic.

I see a lot of people taking the middle ground recently of "I'm glad he's changed his opinion :)" when, if you look back, he's always been vocally supportive of the queer community. Not to mention a lot of his close circle of friends are queer, and the Thai BL industry itself is so overwhelmingly queer at so many levels professionally that if he were homophobic, he simply would not get work.

The reality is that he's been defamed for years and a lot of interfans don't bother to check their sources, and while he isn't perfect, I'm a lot more willing to trust someone who owns up to his mistakes and genuinely wants to improve himself than the ones who pantomime perfection.

And all this was going through my head as I looked at him onstage surrounded by people like me who took the time not just to look at him but to see him. To understand him as someone who loves the people in his life so deeply, who works for the joy of the people around him – not just his fans, but his family.

And whenever he can, he takes all of that love and gives it back however he can.

That's why I admire him. He's brave enough to be kind. To be vulnerable. Even after defamation and death threats to the point where his mother fears for him because she's seen what interfans say to him online, he tried to cope not by lashing out again but by distancing himself instead.

This whole interview is lovely.

I just want more people to see him. To get him. To understand why he's been so loved by so many for so long.

He means so much to a lot of people, and everyone he works with speaks highly of him as a professional and as a person. And it's that person I hope people learn to appreciate.

He's just lovely.

Thinking about the Mock-Trailer for The Ex-Morning

Pathapi is said to be the Best Reporter of the Year in the beginning. How. I want to know his career accomplishments so badly? I need to know how he got here!

I’ve been considering why Pathapi acts the way he does in the beginning. Has he always been like, since his university days? Or was it perhaps heartbreak and the passage of time that’s made him more like this? 

Aou is being made to play the exasperated best friend in Be My Favorite and the rival with coffee thrown on him in The Ex-Morning. Someone give both characters a raise. And a boyfriend!

I looooove the trope of the arrogant, whiny jerkass in a successful position who gets humbled. And that paired with him rebuilding his reputation with his ex-boyfriend of all people? I am so ready to see Pathapi’s character arc, and the things Tamtawan makes him do in this trailer makes me think he’ll get more in-tune with the spirit of good reporting and why it’s so important.

How does Tamtawan know and decide to come back? Obviously, he wants to help Pathapi and is still in love with him, but why did he leave? WHY DID HE LEAVE? Later in the trailer, when present-day Tamtawan leaves, it’s after he’s told “Tam. You have two options now.” What are the two options? The way Tamtawan leaves and the look on his face makes him look regretful, but what exactly is motivating him trying to leave here? Why did he leave in the first place? Does Pathapi know? His face looks half confused rather than just heartbroken!

What has Tamtawan been up to? I am intrigued.

The SOTUS reference in their university days flashback? I am obsessed. They were so sweet in that one frame, it makes me wonder how they fell in love. How different were they? How much of the same remains in them? How did they fall in love? Oh my god!

The transition from Pathapi being awkward with shirtless only-clothed-in-a-towel Tamtawan to taking his own shirt off and asking if Tamtawan has an ulterior motive to fluster him is hilarious to me. I love how forward Pathapi is here! And Tamtawan getting flustered is amazing. Oh my god, I love this trailer. It balances a comedic tone, angst, tension, etc all in one show. Can’t help but adore it.

“You’re still the same selfish jerk.” I need to know what happened! I said this above and I’m saying it again. I am intrigued.

Uni Tamtawan pulling Pathapi by his tie? I am obsessed.

The umbrella scene is both so very P’Lit and so very much a SOTUS reference, it delights me. I wonder how many SOTUS references we’ll have in the show proper.

I wonder if the car accident will coincide with the climax of the show.

That! Last! Scene! I suppose this is a scene when they’re hooking up but not properly together, seeing as they’re flirting, shirtless, and probably just had sex, but still won’t admit they still like each other. This sounds great to me.

I’ve mostly not talked about the meta elements here, because I feel it’s less about the contents of the actual trailer and more about the nature of the series as such a KristSingto RPF-type plot. Anyway, I love it. Everything about the meta of this series is perfect to me, and exactly what I wanted. This show is SO fun to think about when you know about the lore of KristSingto in real life. I’m half expecting Tamtawan to have hazed Pathapi at this point!

Side note that is not a side note: I LOVE THEIR ACTING! I love their characters!

Is this vers? I’m going to say it’s vers or Top Krist until proven wrong, because that last scene? Well. Let’s put the KristSingto into the KristSingto.

I love the small cast and the focus on KristSingto! I just need to say this. I am so excited for this comeback, in-part because it really is just Tamtawan and Pathapi’s story.

Tamtawan is supposed to mean “follow” and “sun” whereas Pathapi means earth/soil/ground. Coming off of KongArt, where Arthit is obviously “sun,” and KristSingto, who compare themselves to the sun and moon, this seems so definitely meaningful. Aof and Lit, I need to know what you’re cooking! 

The coals scene is sooooo perfect, both for the characters AND KristSingto themselves. Again bringing it back to the meta of it all, but, oh my god? This is perfect? Aof wrote a screenplay that was KristSingto RPF? On that note, I keep thinking about the idea of KristSingto channeling their feelings from the irl work-partner “break up” and it makes me go a little crazy. Especially with Krist talking about all his efforts to bring Singto back, and how he over-thought it when Singto left. And even more so seeing as they say they’re basically playing themselves.

The lyrics of the song used in the trailer are so fitting, I am now looping it and thinking about Pathapi and Tamtawan forever and ever.

I noticed that Tamtawan goes by “Tam” but did I miss it for Pathapi in the trailer, or do we get no indication of his nickname? I’m curious.

The “Begin Again” for the new Peraya Party speaks to both KristSingto and their new characters, and this is again making me go, oh god it’s true they’re just playing themselves.

I said my ideal KristSingto BL was a vers exes-to-lovers that parallels reality. Evidently, I was not alone.

Is it just me, or do the Pathapi + animals and Pathapi + soil degradation water scenes feel a lot like certain episodes of Friendship with KristSingto? Just me? Maybe it’s just Krist. I love him so dearly.

So much is revealed in this trailer, but that somehow makes me more intrigued about what is not being revealed to us?

Krist still goes for the top lip and Singto still goes for the bottom lip when they kiss. This kills me every time. I am so excited to see lovey-dovey Tamtawan and Pathapi!

CHARACTER ARCS IN THAI BL (featuring examples from SOTUS, Be My Favorite, and The Ex-Morning)

So, Krist's done two BL series so far with another one on the horizon, and it looks like The Ex-Morning is going to have the same thing that made SOTUS and Be My Favorite so strong: The Character Arc.

One of my biggest complaints about Thai QL series is that most of their protagonists don't want anything. They just kind of walk on camera, act cute, and fall in love. Some sad stuff happens to them, and then the good stuff happens to them again, and then the story ends.

We all know these series are made as a vehicle for the actors. They include just enough fluff or spice (or spicy fluff) to trend, then companies lean on the ensuing hype to sell sponsored products, concert tickets, merch, ten-minute fan calls, fan signings, fan meetings, and top-spender events.

But most series lose me when their protagonists don't even want something that drives the story. And then there's no obstacle to that want.

Want: Arthit wants to hide behind a persona. Obstacle: Kongphob wants Arthit to allow him behind the persona.

I think SOTUS is such a successful slow-burn because it's a well-crafted story of push and pull between two well-developed characters in direct conflict with each other (in personality, philosophy, life experience, class, etc.).

And that conflict builds with each of the three installments:

The conclusion in SOTUS happens once Arthit is fully himself around Kongphob: shyly smiling and laughing while he does a dramatic reading of Kongphob's written account of his hazing experience.

The conclusion in SOTUS S happens once Arthit allows himself to be seen as Kongphob's boyfriend by the outside world (represented by his coworkers).

And the conclusion in their Our Skyy episode—as well as their story overall—happens when Arthit allows the world to see him as Kongphob's fiancé (represented by a ton of passersby in an airport).

By contrast, a lot of other series feel to me as if they haven't been edited or explored beyond a first or maybe second draft. It's difficult for me to get emotionally invested in a story when the characters are just pretty people who say things to each other. And I mean, in all fairness, considering the breakneck speed these are made and released at, writers probably don't have enough time to make anything more profound than that.

That's why I admire Be My Favorite director Waasuthep for requesting more time to work on his script. He was so passionate about that project, and he says to this day that it's his favorite of his works. He basically took apart the original novella's plot, carved it down to a handful of elements, and built it anew from scratch. Last year, he said on a podcast that fans were complaining because they wanted to see the series as soon as possible, but when presented with the choice of "make a worse series faster to appease fans" or "take as much time as possible to craft the story as it deserves to be told," he bravely, boldly, and correctly chose the latter.

As a result, Kawi has arguably the most dramatic and well-executed character arc of all the Thai series I've seen. In episode one, he's self-isolated, timid, avoidant, and selfish. In the last episode, he's a confident, openly queer, and affectionate member of a found family he built alongside the person he loves.

And even better than just having a want, Kawi has a conflicting need.

He wants to be with someone (Pear, then Pisaeng). But what he needs is to be vulnerable enough to let other people love him. Pisaeng tells Kawi in episode two that he's being bigoted against other people for assuming they won't like him and automatically shutting them all out. Then Pisaeng reinforces that point later by telling Kawi that people would like him…if he actually showed them who he is.

And since Kawi's want is at odds with his need (he wants to skip the vulnerability part, which leads to his ruinous potential future with Pear), he's not just externally challenged by his father's illness, his lack of social skills, Not's general unpleasantness, and the inherent dangers associated with changing time, he's also challenged by himself every step of the way.

Seeing Kawi go from self-isolation, in which he assumes the worst of everyone he meets, to warmly hosting a cheerful Christmas party with the beloved people he chose is immensely satisfying as a viewer.

And now in the upcoming Ex-Morning we have an entire series seemingly focused on Pathapi's character arc of challenging the person he's become in order to rekindle his broken relationship with Tamtawan. I've been craving a good exes-to-lovers plot, and I love that it's KristSingto who'll deliver that to me.

Ultimately, it delights me that in all three of Krist's BL series so far, his anxious, reactive characters are forced to self-examine and become calmer, gentler, and happier. SOTUS and Be My Favorite are just as much about self-love as romantic love: Arthit is happiest when he's self-confident, Kawi is happiest when he's vulnerable, and we'll see what Pathapi's whole deal is soon.

Ex-Morning director Lit (who also directed the first SOTUS installment) said in a recent podcast that in the early days, Thai BL directors used to only compete with each other, but they're well aware that their work is on a global stage now. Considering the amount of work that's gone into the script for The Ex-Morning, I'm tremendously excited for the story he helps to create. \:D/

Strong, nuanced characters are what I need from a series, and for them to be at their strongest and most nuanced, they really need that character arc to land.

summary: Kawi is 30 and lives a shitty life. His father died, he has a low paying but exhausting job, no friends, and Pear, the girl he's liked since his university days, is getting married to their classmate, Pisaeng. When Kawi discovers that he has the ability to travel through time, becoming 20 again, he decides to try and seduce Pear. One problem: Pisaeng is there to get in his way.

pros:

the story is not only pretty original, but very well written. I think everyone can find themselves relating to elements of the show, and I loved the topic of wanting to go back in time to fix things which is something everyone has wished at least once in their life. I also love that we see the characters slowly detach themselves from trying to change & predict the future, but actually enjoy the present, which is a pretty beautiful message to pass. the theme of the show truly makes it so lovable and important in my eyes.

the acting was really good from everyone! my favorites were of course my baes gawin & aye who especially slayed :) krist also really impressed me considering I was obviously skeptical about him acting in bl again.

LOVED LOVED LOVED the pisaeng coming out storyline. it wasn't anything incredibly original, but actually was never done that way in a bl show & made incredibly respectfully and well, especially thanks to fluke gawin's performance!

gawinkrist ate?? the chemistry was mostly really good on & off screen and they really sold pisaengkawi to me.

cons:

all of my problems with the show come from the writing, so here you go:

I wish we'd seen kawi's feelings more before he changed his mind from liking pear to wanting to be with pisaeng. I know it was explained as him suddenly realizing it once pisaeng was gone from his life, but I still wish they'd given it slightly more time so we could really feel the weight of kawi's feelings.

I found the pisaengkawi's first time storyline kinda badly executed, even though the sex scene in itself was beautifully acted & filmed. kawi's discomfort with sex is never explored, and he changed his mind without us ever seeing his thought process. I wish we could've gotten a scene where pisaengkawi discussed their relationship with sex & it was made clear that kawi does want to have sex but is just scared, bc without that scene, it feels like kawi doesn't really want it, and the cut from pisaengkawi not getting along great to them having sex was really jarring in the show.

I wanted the side characters to be more developed, and believe there was enough screentime for that. I would've loved to see pear finding herself outside of romantic relationships, kwan finally meeting a man that treats her like she deserves, I wanted max to be more than just activist pride guy (which, SLAY!) and get more screentime & depth bc he's fucking iconic, and even crusty not should've been shown having grown & become a better person after 10 years.

would I rewatch it: absolutely!

If you'd told me Be My Favorite would be one of my favorite shows of the year, I would have laughed at you in the face. In fact, I was the first one doubting this pairing and even the precedent one, but I gotta say... this show really pulled through for me. It is more flawed than I'd like, but still a very touching show about a topic frankly rarely or even never seen in bl. I'm so glad I gave it a chance :)

As for GMMTV, I hope you're sure about this schedule (read: they're in a pre-prod stage as of late, refining the scripts and stuff), and I wish you'd make this Krist + Singto comeback a memorable one, considering how long they've worked separately after their SOTUS era (and I'm Tee, Me Too, if you consider this title despite being a bromantic comedy). Ridiculous Jen BL 2023 list 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Okay, so I’ve had some MH stuff this year, and a lot of last year, so I’ve done an awful lot more watching this year than I ever normally do. So I wasn’t quite sure how to go about my end of year. I decided to split it into two. Best things I watched that aired in 2023 and best things I watched that did not air in 2023. I’ve also not included currently airings. (I’ll maybe do a little half year list or something including 2023 things that finished in 2024.)

Frankly, I found this year to be an embarrassment of riches. Lots of things I loved.

Drama that made me feel horrendously single in the best kind of way. Be my favourite

I’m just a complete sucker for these kinds of dramas. The romance is beautiful and extremely well done but that element is also allowed to play seconds to the story of Kawi and Pisaeng’s growth as humans. An element that I wish more dramas would pay attention too. Krist & Gawin’s chemistry was also exceptional.

Drama I didn’t expect to love but did. Naughty Babe

I absolutely hated Cutie Pie. Could not get on with it at all. But this? This was a soapy delight and it played into that so well. Also served me some of my favourite spice scenes in recent years. Hot and loving. Perfect combo.

Drama I will defend till my death. Bed Friend

This drama. I know the edit is interesting, I know the subs are bad but I think what this drama was trying to do and say was so important. Healthy healing through sex and therapy in a Thai BL?! More likely than you think. (Also NetJames are hot like burning. A ridiculously beautiful pairing.)

Drama that gave me more than I expected. Dangerous Romance

PerthChimon were one of my favourite parts of NLMG. I’d had Chim roughly five mins before falling in love. So I was, cautiously, excited for DR. I needn’t have been cautious. The characterisation in this show is superb and, whilst I do think perhaps its story was a touch ambitious for its amount of episodes, I enjoyed and eagerly anticipated every episode. Also shout out to my darling Dangerous Romance moots who made each episode even more fun.

Drama of the year. Moonlight Chicken

It’ll be a long time before this is topped for me. Not only is it beautiful to look at it’s also incredibly well acted and the script is superb. The subtle ways it addresses different generational attitudes to being queer, it’s commentaries on poverty and disability. It’s just perfect.

The Krist Elements Concert - Day 2 [1080p]

Today, KristSingto attended the premiere of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which introduces some new emotions for Riley.

He’s spoken before about attending therapy and managing his mental health issues in the past, but I think this is the first time he’s explicitly used the term “anxiety” as a feeling he relates to.
