“Is this one for me?” Akutagawa asked, holding one of the keychains Ranpo and Yosano had brought as souvenirs from their latest case in another city. Kenji couldn’t remember which one right then, though.

“Well, of course!” He nodded, quite enthusiastically. “You’re part of this family now, y’know.”

“Besides, we chose specific ones for each one of you. So it’s not just that you can have that, but it’s meant to be for you.” Yosano explained, approaching them both while she was done handing out the last one to Naomi. The Tanizakis had gotten matching puppies, Kunikida an owl, Kenji himself had a little cow and Akutagawa’s was a kitten. And he hadn’t seen the president’s, Oda’s or the ones for the clerks, but it stood to reason they would all follow the same pattern.

“Oh.” Was all Akutagawa said for a while, his eyes fixed on the kitten and his brow slightly less furrowed. “Thank you.” Before Kenji could ask him if he was putting it with his keys or somewhere else, he was already using Rashômon to hook it around one of his belt loops. “What do you think?”

Kenji’s answer, of course, couldn’t be and wasn’t anything but wonderstruck.

“It looks great there!!!” He instantly said, smiling wide and warmly. “Mind if I do the same?”
